Heartless Pt.2
Mafia Boss! Miguel O’Hara x fem! reader
You and Miguel are married to each other…and it wasn’t because of love.
I heart slowburn x
Tumblr media
You idled on where you could go for your honeymoon. At least Miguel gave you the twisted liberty of choosing where you could go, you didn't even care enough to want to go to nice places anymore. Why was he trying to drag this out with a honeymoon? Neither of you wanted it, yet Miguel always valued whatever his Consigliere had to say, you weren't going to take one of your few chances to argue with him over something so minuscule, you were saving your rage and confusion for the things that would matter in the future. Maybe somewhere warm, maybe Italy or France or something. You wondered what Mexico would be like since Miguel is half Mexican, you wondered if a part of his family were settled there too- you had to admit, you were curious if the apple fell far from the tree. You immediately dismissed this misplaced curiosity, you didn"t know Miguel well enough yet and he would probably have your head on a spike if you even mentioned it. Miguel's brother Gabriel came into the penthouse to pick up a few things and you told him that you wanted to go to Italy, Gabriel said he'd pass that along to Miguel's pilot.
It was getting dark out and Miguel said you'd fly out tonight but he still wasn't back. You hadn't seen Miguel since breakfast, you probably ruffled his feathers just by challenging him minutely. All you did today was get ready, did up your hair, splashed on some makeup, wear one of the dresses he gave you, and sat around. You were bored out of your mind, if this was what married life would be like, you would be very irritable and uncooperative indeed. You couldn't back out now, being bored was better than being dead.
You took this eventless time to wander around this penthouse, one of his capos told you he owned many but this was one of the nicer ones, it was quiet, serene. You spent this day with one of Miguel's lackeys stationed outside of the door and Little Miss Fuck Me Eyes, AKA the maid, but you actively avoided her.
It was a nice place to live in, expensive and clean, but it felt...empty, even with people in and outs mavbe it was just the lack of Miguel that was making you feel this way. Your heels clicked around and your eyes squinted towards Miguels study.
Should you...? You'd probably get a shot to the kneecap at least for meddling with Miguel's private affairs. Your fingers wandered to the handle tentatively, your curiosity outweighed your fear. It would be a stupid mistake, yes, but if Miguel wasn't going to be here now, he definitely wouldn't be around later, so you had time to snoop and pretend you weren't there. You opened the door and your eyes shot around, he was such a neat freak, but there were bits of paper strewn on his desk. His desk was dark oak, it was almost black, his desk chair was real black leather too, and the warm ambient lights offered some sort of atmosphere where he could work. You strolled softly behind his desk to look at the loose papers. The first one was marriage papers, the official documents to your betrothal, the other one was the NDA you signed and the last one was...an entire background check on you. You sifted through the paper and there were pictures of you walking around on the streets of New York, you clutched onto it, your eyes narrowing at the words you were reading on the page.
It had your bank details.
Your clothing measurements.
Your GPA.
The earnings of your parent's company.
Every ex-boyfriend you've ever had
The shops you go to.
Your favourite food.
Quite literally everything about you.
He ran a background check on you and had someone follow you around before you got engaged. You frowned at the paper. You set it down and sighed, taking a minute to consolidate what you had just read. Raking a hand through your hair, you walked around his desk and stole a glance at the walls- you couldnt believe you missed what he hung up on the walls. You inched forward to inspect the Renaissance paintings that covered the room, he even had a real Caravaggio, Lord knows how much it cost. Then you shifted towards a picture that wasn't a painting. It was of Miguel and his brother when they were about teenagers, embracing each other for the camera after a presumably long day of playing sports or something like that- but what really stunted you was that he was smiling. You don't think you've ever seen Miguel smile at all.
What you didn’t realise was that Miguel was at home, trying to find you in the penthouse.
He knew he was an hour late but he was held up by some important consultations. His brow raised when out of the corner of his eye, he found the door to his study open which was very odd- it was always left closed, he should probably invest in a lock. His fingers opened it up sottly and there he found you, snooping around his study like a second-rate degenerate criminal, but when he found you, you were gawking at the art on his walls. You were absorbed in the paintings, in a trance akin to that of a dream, he almost didn't want to disturb you, You were wearing a slinky black strapless dress that hugged you just right, it stopped just below the knee, your skin was glowing in the ambient light, the heels on your feet making you look taller, but not as tall as him. He liked that he had the choice to power over you.
He had the sentiment he always had when he looked at you: you looked nice.
“Enjoying your prying?” A low irritated voice husked behind you, you turned around and yelped in surprise, your chest heaved at the shock of seeing him right here, in a place you had no business being in. You were dead already. You winced when your eyes met his, he seemed amused and annoyed all at once as you gaped at him at the doorway. He was so….so…clean and smart but his sleeves were rolled up and a few buttons were undone, he ditched his tie as you saw it in his hand. You swallowed thickly.
“I'm fine.”You seemed to muster up, unsure of what else to say, You had to admit, you were a little afraid but you would rather die than show that. You weren't sure what was going to fall out of his mouth, probably a verbal tongue-lashing. “Caravaggio? His paintings are rather dark.” You couldn't help but comment on it, of course, he would have refined taste, not just in anything business-related but also something as cultural as art.
“Isn't that what's fascinating about it?” Miguel grumbled, hoping you wouldn't hear him. It was a bright, keen and astute observation. You pursed your lips and stayed silent whilst crossing your arms. “I don't want you in here.” He clipped coldly as he finally made his way to approach you, he stole a look towards his desk and found that a few papers had been messed with. So you know about it now.
“I don't want you having your capos stalk me.” You bit back shrewdly with challenging eyes and Miguel raised an eyebrow a little, just enough for you to notice from the corner of your eye. Touche, dick.
“I have to know how I'm working with.” He said so emotionless, so flatly. Like everything was about business, like neither of you was actual people with feelings.
“Well, I don't know who I'm working with, so you're not fighting fair.” You inched forward to him as you let out with a strained breath. Unfortunately for him, your statement made him think.
“You won't have to and you're right, I don't fight fair.”
“I told Gabriel I want to go to Italy, by the way.” You pivoted the subject around and Miguel was internally pleased that you did.
“Portofino is nice this time of year.” He commented briskly, again, reverting back as if you were mere acquaintances discussing destination spots and the fucking weather. It still left a bitter taste in his mouth.
-
You packed quickly and Miguel's driver took all your bags as you were about to head out of the front door. You weren't really paying attention as Little Miss Fuck Me Eyes was all over Miguel again, talking to him about what needed to be done the time both of you came back. You didn't know why you didn't like her, it was probably because she was so obvious about it, she was practically drooling over your husband as if you weren't here.
He was your husband. Whether you liked it or not. When she glanced over at you, you raked a tuft of hair behind your ear, your wedding ring on full display as you did so, she definitely noticed it with the way her face settled into a scowl.
It didn't take long until you were both in the back seat of Miguel's lamp-black Porsche, completely silent to the drive to the airstrip that Miguel owned. You blinked out the window, watching the bright city lights blur into colors against the dark of night, well-mannered in your straight posture and crossed legs. Miguel took a second to contemplate your presence, he almost hated how well-behaved you were. A small fraction of him wanted to see you get messy, preferably under him. He shook the defiant out of his head with a scowl, staring out of his own window in response. There was this thick tension between you, this sustaining of a non-existent friendship, trying to keep the conversation simple and polite between you and the man you barely knew anything about.
He did his research but your parents did their own- they didn't let you get involved even though you were the one they were marrying off.
It felt like forever in the car, Miguel escorted you out like a...gentleman. Watching you sway so confidently up the stairs to his private jet. He had a full view of your ass in that dress he liked, he didn't know how to feel about it so he just breathed deeply instead. Miguel followed you up, stepping into the cool, crystalized plush leather of the plane. Jesus, the amount of money he spent on this is probably uncountable, just thinking about it made your head ache. Miguel watched as you were awed at the interior, he had a slight feeling of contempt at your reaction, like you didn't think your lifestyle would change into this. He makes this kind of money every minute. He was a very wealthy man. He could afford 20 of these if he wanted to. You needed to stop being so surprised and get used to shit like this.
You thought that Miguel would probably want to sit the furthest away from you, he was distant like that but a flash of confusion covered your face when you found him sitting next to you as he did up his seatbelt.
So close.
The proximity was...different. So different.
“Good evening, Mr. O'hara.” Before you knew it a soft sensual voice in front of you pierced through your absent-minded thoughts. Oh, of course. Another insanely beautiful woman worked for him. She took out a single glass and pulled out a 100-year-old Merlot. Her perfectly tailored uniform clung to her so tightly it was like glue. Of course, he had a gorgeous flight attendant. Of course. It shouldn't bother you, but for some reason it did. “How was your night...with your friend here?” She glanced to the side at you, finally realizing that it wasn't just her and Miguel in the plane, so they couldn't exactly fuck like dogs. Her face scrunched into a condescending smile, looking you up and down. It was obvious she was defeated but she concealed it behind bright eyes. Why did every single woman who worked for him want to fuck him? It was honestly galling.
“She's my wife.” Miguel said thickly, his voice held a certain gravitas, and his tone was clipped, almost like he was annoyed. The revelation seemed to get to Little Miss Fuck Me Eyes Number 2, her face dropped and it honestly made you feel better. “And yes, we had a good night, thank you. Please get another glass for us please.” It was almost like he was politely laying into her.
“Of course, Mr O'Hara.” She smiled softly as she whisked away to get another glass.
Miguel wanted to roll his eyes. Yeah, yeah baby, keep dreaming he wanted to say. He really didn't like it when people gawked at him, especially the women who worked for him. It wasn't him who employed all these objectively beautiful women, it was Gabriel and he was extremely biased. He doesn't fuck his staff. Well, he can't because he's a married man. Married to you. A beautiful woman who he just can't figure out. Even though, he had all the info he could get about you...the way you talked to him, and the way you acted around him was confusing. You were so puzzling and he wanted to uncover the secrets that you held, how messy you could actually get behind this complacent good girl agenda.
His eyes flickered to you and it was obvious you were lost in your own little world. He looked at your lap and noticed that you weren't wearing your seatbelt, before his mind could even check it, his hands reached out for your seatbelt.
You almost jumped into your seat when you realized where his hands were, he was leaning towards you, close enough where you could fully smell his deep and rich cologne. He did your seatbelt and without hesitation, tightened it harshly with one tug, you gasped softly at the unexpected action. Woah. His hands were...big.
“Make sure you don't die a day after your wedding day.” He muttered just above a whisper. You let out a gentle cough and resumed your 'respectable' position, pretending like it didn't affect you whatsoever.
Miguel wanted you to be affected by him, maybe so he could intimidate you. But after just a short few days together and many moments of where you should be intimidated by him- you weren't. It was as refreshing as it was unsettling. He could have you affected by him in another way…maybe sexual tension would do the trick in breaking this facade you had up... He contemplated the idea but then ultimately rejected it as quickly as it came.
He can't fraternize with you.
This was merely a business transaction.
He wanted this as clean as possible.
No feelings. No fucking up.
He would never get involved. He won't do it.
He’s done too much to stop now.

Valeria HeadCannons
Tumblr media
I wouldn’t say I would romanticize this type of lifestyle specially in Mexico, but since is all fiction then I’ll let my thoughts be, Im just a girly that loves Valeria lol.😭
You know how many imagine their “sueño buchón” being provided with lots of gifts, money, luxury bags, brand new cars, houses, Ramos buchones (these type of huge bouquets of roses), yeah well Valeria would do that type of shit to their partner.
She will call you all sorts of pet names “princesa” “mi Reina” “chula” “mija”.
I don’t think she’ll show actual affection if you’re near around work, since she thinks enemies can easily figure you out and hurt you, specially to hurt her.
I don’t think she likes the new Corridos, but put her on some Jenni Rivera, Joan Sebastian, old corridos stuff she’s adore it. Personally I don’t think she likes the idea of how new corridos romanticize this lifestyle but she lets her men have that type of music since that makes them work lol.
I think she’s experienced around women, after she left the Mexican army maybe she discovered new stuff along her new line of work.
She personally hates how other mafia bosses treat their spouses, how they view them as an object, she swore to never treat a woman like that.
If for some reason she thinks you’re captivating she’ll invite you a night out, go for some dinner in the most expensive restaurant in Las Almas, at first you don’t knowing who she was, eventually you got your suspicions about her but never really got a full conversation on her work.
She’ll be the type to joke around “Chula, dile a tus papás que ya no te voy a regresar” (her just saying she will not take you back to your house) when your going out on her very expensive car, you two alone, you’ll just stare at her confused/surprised, then she just starts laughing.
She’ll teach you the basics at self defense, maybe not yet with a gun, is not that she doesn’t trust you, but ending someone life takes a little humanity out of you, she doesn’t want that for you.
When she’s not around, not matter where you are she’ll send her men to have an eye on you, protect you from everything, you might think she’s a little paranoid, but dating the biggest cartel mafia boss comes with it dangers.

Secret Ingredient Masterlist
Pairing: Mafia!Miguel O'Hara × Female!Baker!Reader
Warnings: not accurate to actual mafia, violence, smut, protective!Miguel, reader's body, hair type, hair color, eye color & skin tone are not described, Spanish translations are rough because my Spanish is mixed with Mexican & Puerto Rican Spanish, so forgive me
Summary: Miguel O'Hara is the leader of the Fangs. He does everything in his power to make sure Nueva York is safe from any harm while also being a successful CEO at Alchemax, while also running his own businesses on the side such as clubs, casinos, and even docks. He wanted to expand though and help out small businesses since he knew it was sometimes hard. Him being him, got the urge to satisfy his sweet tooth in both owning and eating. He couldn't help but notice the little bakery near one of his clubs that was pretty quiet for rush hour. Was it new? He didn't know, but once he stepped in, he was automatically captivated by the delicious aroma and number of different baked goodies that were from all over the world. However, when he saw you, he felt like he was back in high school; a nervous wreck around a girl. Unfortunately, he doesn't mix business with pleasure, so the uncertainty to offer a helping hand with your bakery was weighing on him. The businessman in him says no, but the inner romantic in him says yes. However, the mafia man in him says...both.

okay talk🙂‍↕️🙂‍↕️
re: this post well nayeb not Hours but it is pretty long
I think I find it so fascinating because he has a clear pronunciation and vocalization, yet is still in that stage of like making up phrases that kids learning a language get. it's just such a fun contradiction you get by pure chance and it makes me laugh. so you know how kids generally learn language by being talked to, and just naturally start replying in odd ways until they can "make" understandable/logical sentences? sapnap is like in his toddler stage of speaking spanish right now but like 2-3 year old toddler, the mafia is actively encouraging this because that is how shadoune learnt, despite not being the like Fastest way, just because it will stick. he knows what certain words mean and how to play with them to make good sentences and now that I think about it obviously listening to the phrases in spanish and having access to instant translation is being a huge help. So these are obviously special circumstances to learn a language, similar to suddenly moving to another place and having to get used to a new language. Most people will do the doulingo way which is just like trying to memorize the words that fit and go word for word replacing the speech from their native language to the other language. sapnap does that, to a degree, but understadns spanish rules too so he doesn't get stuck when there's not a direct translation. something I also absolutely adore is how, despite all of that, his pronunciation is fucking amazing. I saw someone theorizing it's because of his greek knowledge and Idk how much that is true (??) In the sense that I don't really know how much it affects his pronunciation. but bro genuinely has a good and natural sounding pronunciation which makes his speech sound even more native hispanic, specifically latino core. LATINONAP. it's fucking awesome. Like there are classmates of mine who have yet to suppress their accents from living in the country for 10 years because of their english speaking upbringing. something curious about this is that whether before like last year he sounded more like mexican/neutral spanish, his month with team mafia did make him sound slightly more argentinean like LOL
all of this makes sapnap genuinely sound like a like young kid that's learning to talk which is just fucking amazing to me. Cuteness aggression inducing if ever. there is something to be said about what a powerful language tool living and Listening to others is, but that's more words and honestly my wrists kinda hurt

I STILL WANT Mafia!141 AU
Part 1 https://www.tumblr.com/sadist1224/742379650222784512/i-need-the-mafia141-au?source=share
Part 2 https://www.tumblr.com/sadist1224/742405536052543488/i-still-want-mafia141-au?source=share
The Mafia! In which you, a former second lieutenant of the police, were kidnapped by unknown people while 141 were in another city on their mafia business.
The first alarm is raised by Val, who does not find you at the bar, although you always arrived on time. The woman starts calling and texting you, but your phone is out of the network area, so the second thing she does is go to your apartment nearby. Not finding you there either, she decides to wait before acting decisively, but don't worry. The waiting period will not be so long, in an hour her people will interrogate passers-by in search of witnesses.
Just imagine Price's face, which Alejandro calls right during the interrogation, and on his work phone, while the Ghost beats the next drug dealer to a pulp. The captain stops the lieutenant as soon as he hears the latest news that Valeria has started making a fuss. Her people are questioning civilians, looking for something. Price asks to keep him informed and hangs up. I have a bad feeling in the back of my head.
The guys immediately sense something wrong with this call. Johnny and Gaz exchange glances with the Ghost.
Kyle, who was able to get Van's phone number almost before he left, just in case. In fact, he wasn't even sure if he could call you or not, but that doesn't mean he didn't want to.
Therefore, when they dial your number 5 times in a row, and you still haven't answered them, their anxiety increases significantly.
Alejandro was actually surprised by Valeria's unusual behavior and watched her actions all day, until eventually he and Rudy came back to the bar to interrogate her. And, of course, they didn't find you there.
You, who always smiled so friendly at them when they met and who had already learned their favorite positions on the bar list. Of course, they couldn't help but flirt with you, but how else would they behave with someone like you? How witty and at the same time cute you could respond to Rudy's flirting and to the same extent you could interrupt absolutely any disliked thing addressed to you. You definitely knew your worth, you made great jokes and could support even the most insignificant topic, or at the right moment take the conversation in a different direction.
You are the perfect bartender, and absolutely the man who completely captured the attention of two Mexicans. In fact, Alejandro has already been thinking about how he can lure you to their establishment. You would absolutely fit into one of their restaurants or casinos. If, of course, the guys from 141 hadn't already had their eyes on you.
Yes, the British liked you just as much as they did. The way Johnny ran after you, how easily and often Gaz communicated with you. Or how the Ghost and Price looked at you.
Alejandro is not stupid. He knows how the familiar coldness in the Ghost's eyes changes when he looks at you. Or how Price's eyes look at you with undisguised interest when you once again bring them the best whiskey from your stock. And how masterfully you manage to ignore it. Alejandro is ready to give a standing ovation to your stoic, even expression when you refuse to let Sope join them.
You're a professional. And you're not that simple. The Mexican likes this mystery about you. Only a very attentive person will notice that you've been through some shit. And it seems that the Ghost and Price have already guessed this.
But now, you're not here. Alejandro knows that he has to call Price, tell him about the disappearance of "their" favorite bartender. And he is already ordering Rodolfo to gather his men and comb the streets, because they all know very well how dangerous members of other groups can be. And they have plenty of enemies in the city and beyond.
Johnny, who just can't find a place for himself after the news of your disappearance, cuts circles around the hotel room. If you could see how worried he is… The man is ready to take off right now and go in search of you.
Gaz, who has been sitting tensely on the couch all this time, clutching his phone and nervously glancing at his watch, waiting for Price to finish the conversation with Alejandro. Of course, what did they expect, appearing so often in a bar, and even in your company?
The ghost knew that sooner or later it would happen, but that doesn't mean he's calm. In fact, he already imagines how in one of the shelters he will clearly show your kidnappers that they should not even pull their hands to what already belongs to them.
Of course, they've almost claimed you. You're almost there, even if you don't know it. Price had already thought about it. He already had a rough plan in his head how he could lure you into their family. Of course, he already had the idea to buy out the bar to begin with, but Valeria sent him far away, even with a very profitable offer for her. So the simplest option has disappeared.
But, never mind, he has plans to the last letter of the alphabet. In his head, you fit perfectly between the four of them. In every sense.
But he just can't choose between you and their job. The latter was still more important. That's why Price decides to finish all the business here first, and then deal with your kidnappers. After all, Vargas and the Couple care about you too, so they may not worry a bit.

2023 Year In Review
This year once again I invited some friends and colleagues to reflect on 2023
JG Thirlwell Composer Foetus Xordox Manorexia Steroid Maximus Venture Bros Archer
2023 was an intense year. The year began with the premiere of my symphony for Alarm Will Sound and ended with guesting vocalizing with Dinosaur Jr on some Stooges classics. I completed the final season of Archer. Wrote a lot of material for new Xordox and Foetus albums. Released an album of string quartets and scored a Venture Bros movie. Worked with some great singers and premiered my Ensemble project in London. I spent several months traveling and set up a small studio in Melbourne for a bit. Road tripped through NZ with my partner, Dora. I played some excellent shows in London, Colchester, Auckland, Wellington, Melbourne and Sydney. I still woke up 5am in a panic on too many occasions. And I saw some great concerts. It was difficult to whittle down this list but here are a lot of albums I enjoyed in 2023, in no particular order.

Alexander Tucker (Microcorps)
I started off the year by releasing a project very close to my heart: Fifth Continent, a collaboration with the late Keith Collins, partner and collaborator of film maker and artist Derek Jarman. The album was partially recorded in Jarman’s cottage in the desert-like landscape of Dungeness, on the South East coastline of Kent, in the UK, with elements constructed from Collins own spoken word pieces, and environmental recordings. The album was released on James Ginzberg’s Subtext label, and we also produced Fifth Quarter, an anthology publication of writing, recollections, photography and newly commissioned artworks about Jarman, Collins and Dungeness.
Although I probably made more music than usual this year, and had a greater focus than ever on the various projects I have underway, 2023 felt like a weird and often frustrating year for me and music. About five years ago I set about teaching myself modular systems, experimenting, and recording the results as I went along. This culminated in a new solo guise primarily for electronics and the synthesis of voice and acoustic instruments, MICROCORPS (the debut album Xmit came out on Alter records in 2021). Using these systems is at the same time liberating and incredibly frustrating. For a while this year nothing felt good enough: I could feel the potential of my ideas glimmering in the distance but was unable to catch up with them. I decided to take a short break from the modular, and focused upon compositions for cello, saxophone, and clarinet. But the pull of electronics is never far, so I began processing these recordings, using granular synthesis to stretch, mutate and reorganise the audio into new pieces. As soon as you want more from your practice and yourself, things can become more laborious - it’s difficult to be in the moment and focus on what’s in front of you. I used to be happy with the immediate effects I produced, but I think this is being replaced by a different approach, something more considered, which is exciting and, in some ways, sobering - even if the results are far from what you would describe as sober. I’m also so lucky to have many friends and fellow artists around me to offer help and suggestions, to whom I’m eternally grateful. As R.Crumb says, “Keep on truckin”.
Music I dug this year: Godflesh - Purge (Avalanche Recordings) Rắn Cạp Đuôi - *1 (nhạc_gay) Mun Sing - Inflatable Gravestone (Planet Mu) RS Tangent - When A Worm Wears A Wig (The Trilogy Tapes) Arnold Dreybaltt And The Orchestra Of Excited Strings - Resolve (Drag City) Elvin Brandhi and Lord Spikeheart - Drunken Love (Hakuna Kulala) Mark Fell and Will Guthrie - Infoldings / Diffractions (NAKID) Afrorack - The Afrorack (Hakuna Kulala) Kinn - Dogtooth (First Light Records) General Magic - Nein Aber Ja (GoTo Records)
Live shows: Emptyset - Village Underground Elvin Brandhi - IKLECTIK Mick Harris/FRET – Downwards’ 30th, Centrala Mun Sing, Crys Cole, Penelope Trappes - Boundaries Festival  Maxwell Sterling - Cafe OTO Pole - EartH Nik Colk Void - Too many to count! Phew - Cafe OTO Residency Acid Horse Festival Devo - Hammersmith Apollo Kinn - New Cross Road Baptist Church
Comics: In 2023 I produced a new issue of my ongoing oblique and nonlinear comic series, Entity Reunion. For this issue I drew upon my love of HP Lovecraft, using the repetition of the comic format to peel back layers of the everyday to reveal omnipotent entities underlying all reality. The viewpoint of each page is from the point of view of the protagonists, who hold an electronic device, photographing their surroundings only to capture the blurred features of some insidious face. There are also references to Lovecraft’s own fictional grimoire the Necrononmicon. I wanted that dreamlike sensation of being the protagonists of the dream but also viewing yourself as separate entity.
Books: I read nearly all of Patrica Highsmith’s ‘Ripley’ books, a bunch of John Le Carré novels, Mark Kermode’s book on The Exorcist and I’m currently working my way through the spy novelist Eric Ambler’s books. I also re-read Bruce Robinson’s analysis on Jack the Ripper and Victorian society, ‘They All Love Jack’.

Music I made a (very) long list on my wildly popular blog, Abundant Living. But, for kicks and with the understanding that maybe you don’t feel like reading (or subscribing to) my wildly popular blog, here’s some stuff I included and some stuff I forgot (with particular attention paid to albums I think might be of particular interest to JG friends/fans but which may have slipped through the radar) (meaning: I mainly put the stuff that wasn’t on too many other lists). Fatboi Sharif Decay (Backwoodz) Skech185 He Left Nothing for the Swim Back (Backwoodz) Zohra Murder In The Temple (American Dreams) The Native Cats The Way On Is The Way Off (Chapel)  Geese 3D Country (Partisan) Gold Dime No More Blue Skies (No-Gold) Algiers Shook (Matador) EXEK The Map and the Territory (Foreign) Skinhead Everything Was Beautiful and Nothing Hurt (Closed Casket) Débruit & Alsarah Aljawal الجوال (Soundway) Fairytale Shooting Star (Toxic State) Among The Rocks and Roots Pariah (Cacophonous Revival)  Full of Hell, Nothing When No Birds Sang (Closed Casket) Uniform & Boris Bright New Disease (Sacred Bones) Sleaford Mods  UK Grim (Rough Trade) Money&King Act Unnaturally (self released) Blu Anxxiety Morbid Now, Morbid Later (Toxic State) Nana Benz du Togo  AGO (Komos) Citric Dummies Zen and the Arcade of Beating Your Ass (Feel It) Ghösh  Prismassive (Ramp Local) Peasdez  Fenomenologia Del Espiritu Agonico: De La Existencia Sordida Al Pendulo De La Nada (SPHC) Upper Wilds Jupiter (Thrill Jockey) Death Valley Girls Islands In The Sky (Suicide Squeeze) Raphael Rogiński Talán  Body Void Atrocity Machine (Prosthetic) Feeling Figures Migration Magic (Perennial) Ryan Davis & the Roadhouse Band  Dancing on the Edge (Sophomore Lounge) Nosaj from New Kingdom & steel tipped dove House of Disorder (Fused Arrow Records) mclusky unpopular parts of a pig / the digger you deep (self released) Advertisement Escorts (Feel It) King Vision Ultra  Shook World (hosted by Algiers) (PTP)

BOOKS My phone has pretty much eliminated my ability to read. I did read the first 100 pages of more books than I care to admit. I finally finished Mark Andrews’ Paint My Name In Black and Gold: The Rise of the Sisters of Mercy and I recommend it if, like me, you think The Sisters of Mercy are better than the Beatles (or whatever inane comparison annoys your friends the most). I also discovered Gene Wolfe and read the first book in the Book of the New Sun trilogy. Otherwise, it’s pretty much been just using Louise Glück poetry as inspiration to write terrible versions of Louise Glück poetry.
TV Doom Patrol Pokerface Rick and Morty (idc idc idc idc) HasanAbi twitch stream  A ludicrous amount of Britbox mysteries and—passively, yes, but not without a fair amount of emotional investment—various Real Housewife shows/spinoffs
Movies Didn’t watch any new movies this year but I did have a lot of youtube videos playing in the background while I did other things, and sometimes those videos would be three hour long screeds about what was wrong with a number of movies I’d never heard of. So I feel like I got the gist.
LIFE Converted to Islam and married Zohra in January. Both choices have proven to be rewarding as all hell. Cashing in my “as a Jew I…” argument card—while simultaneously being too new a Muslim to reasonably claim either special knowledge and/or marginalization status—has really fucked with my ability to be self-righteous online. But the love that Zohra and her family have shown me has more than made up for my newfound inability to really wipe the floor with a motherfucker in the instagram comments. In fact, I liked marrying Zohra so much that I did it again in December (first time was a religious ceremony, the second time was our rendering to Caesar etc). If you know me/us and weren’t invited to either that’s because essentially no one was. As my parents couldn’t attend (on account of being dead) I didn’t really see the point of a big party. That was perhaps selfish. We love you (probably) and will have some sort of to-do in 2024.
Otherwise, I am still very much enjoying working for the new CREEM Magazine (please subscribe) and doing my newsletter (please subscribe). Musically, I lived vicariously through Zohra and the release of her first solo album. Murder In The Temple, with amazing production by Ben Greenberg and contributions by Lydia Lunch, is a synthesis of so many of Zohra’s obsessions. It’s unlike anything in the post-goth-dark-whatever sphere and I can’t express how proud I am of it and her. As for my music, I did some neat-o Scientists-esque stuff with Telematics (Sohrab Habibion, Robert Austin, and Alexis Fleisig) and Zohra and I did a Sheer Terror cover in the style of Tindersticks to commemorate Paul Bearer’s marriage. Also, I’m pretty sure my most successful band (Publicist UK) got dropped by our label (apparently taking eight years to finish a demo is a long time) so get at me if you have a low-to-mid tier label and want to put out an album of eight minute gothic metal songs with zero mosh parts, about an aging hipster loving his wife and cats and missing his dead mom and dad. C’mon, do it. You’d be printing money.

If 2022 was the Return of the Show and the Return of Travel, 2023 was about Building Stability (i.e. making my teaching studio a primary income source), Hunkering Down to Finish Two Albums, and Re-Learning How to Be a Human Being. I also played a bunch of cool shows with Dither (collabs w/ Carla Kilhlstedt, Lee Ranaldo/Brian Chase, Amirtha Kidambi, AJ Santillan, and Laurie Spiegel; playing Electric Counterpoint on GFA), a couple fun Scarcity shows (playing with Liturgy, improvising on graphic scores by Anthony Hawley) and did some performances with Whimbrels and Contemporaneous.
These were albums I enjoyed (incessantly) at some point during 2023 that were mostly - but not exclusively - also released in 2023.

Grace Bergere
(songwriter / singer / performer)
This year was full of firsts for me!
Definitely the most musically eventful year of my life to date. I went on my first tour playing bass with my great friends in COP/OUT, supporting Days n' Daze (A band I'd been listening to for years as a young punk kid.)  I immediately realized touring is really all I want to do.  I also got to tour alongside Subhumans in Cop/Out. Meeting them and getting to know them was mind expanding.  They were all kind and humble thoughtful individuals, completely down to earth and engaged with everyone they spoke to. Every night across the midwest they brought the crowd to a cathartic screaming euphoric mess. Working with COP/OUT, whose message is so clear; to be good to each other, question everything even when it means swimming upstream with every bit of strength you have, filled me with hope.  Playing on that tour with them, and watching Subhumans every night reminded me the power of music to affect real social change which is something I believed to have been  lost in recent years.  I met my great friend Jessica Mills on that tour and we still talk all the time.
I also started playing guitar in The Art Gray Noizz Quintet. One of my longtime favorite bands (that my very talented cool boyfriend happens to play bass in.) We went all across the West Coast, landing in Las Vegas. Playing with them has demanded I advance as a guitarist, stepping into Andrea Sicco's shoes. Andrea is a complete beast of a musician and all of his musical projects are awesome. Check out MOVIE MOVIE, his most recent project.
I also joined Crazy And The Brains on second guitar. They’re a super fun high energy punk band. I love being around such positive fun loving musicians and watching them bounce around while I do my best to keep up.
I recently finished recording my album at HOBO SOUND in Hoboken by James Frazee. The time and effort it took over the several years since I started, was at times grueling. But James never stopped caring or checked out. He helped me shape this album into something I am truly proud of, along with Richard Dev Greene, one of the first people to ever believe in my music. I am so grateful to both of them.
I started spending time with Victoria and Kay of Puzzled Panther. They quickly have become two of my best friends. It is so meaningful for me to have found such badass, driven young women to share a dream with. Puzzled Panther is raw and hypnotizing. They have a unique strong hold over their audience and every show of theirs I’ve been to has been fantastic.  Victoria has joined me a few times on a song at my shows, and every time I believe has been one of the strongest points in my set.
I Met Eugene Hutz of Gogol Bordello (the first huge band I ever went to see as a young teenager.)  He will be releasing my upcoming single and video for “Come And Go”  on his label Casa Gogol Records in early 2024.
I just played the biggest show I’ve ever played with my solo project that plays under my name.  We were on a bill with Gogol Bordello and JON SPENCER (Also one of my favorite artists.)  Being on that stage standing there in front of more people I’ve ever seen in an audience from that vantage point, I felt like every second of my life was leading to that moment. Each song brought me back to the time in my life when Id written it and it felt very much like watching my life projected in front of me. It was indescribably satisfying to be on that stage. Later, in the audience, I screamed along to Gogol and watched my mom dance to songs she'd heard me blasting through the house as a kid, and felt just as moved by them as I did as a young teenager the first time I saw them.
I am so grateful to be working with Eugene. He is kind and thoughtful in his feedback and hugely supportive of me and my dreams.
I will be playing New Years Eve with the Art Gray Noizz Quintet before Kid Congo Powers and The Pink Monkey Birds !!
This last week I can honestly say, has been the best of my life to date. Like looking out over a valley after climbing for years.
BEST SHOWS
(other than the ones I was lucky enough to play at listed above)
RICHARD DAWSON
I got to see Richard Dawson three whole times!!! it was his first US appearance. He is a completely unique force. I’ve never seen such a captivated crowd. we all cried and screamed along with him.
PIGS X 7
One of those times he was playing with Pigs x7. They quickly became another favorite band of mine despite having severe technical difficulties. it was actually kind of a highlight because their front man just started joking around and had the entire audience laughing along with him and talking for about 10 minutes. I got to see them two other times that went perfectly. What a band..
JON SPENCER AND THE HIT MAKERS
I saw them at TV Eye. I had been able to squeeze myself into the DJ booth for their set. They hammered away into some kind of magical hypnosis that made me feel like I'd taken MDMA. (I had not.) I had to lean against a wall to keep my balance. They played with Licks, a badass 60s garage rock inspired band fronted by my friend Skunk.
LYDIA LUNCH RETROVIRUS
Also driving and hypnotic and loud as hell. I was left with a similar feeling of having been dosed with something at all of their shows…
JOSEPH KECKLER
The first time I saw Joseph perform was at TV eye with Lydia Lunch. He’s completely unique. He writes gorgeous songs that he sings in an incomprehensibly wide range, sometimes in languages that he has invented himself! His seamlessly mixes humor with honest beautiful songwriting.

I want to thank JG Thirlwell for inviting me to submit my 2023 Year in Review. I had never done one of these before and it's been a fun challenge to go through my calendar and social media to remember and realize how much I was able to pack into this year! Selecting and writing down all of these things also helped me further grasp and understand how tremendously privileged and lucky I am to be able to do what I love all year around, year after year, and to live my life to the fullest and according to my own wishes and my own design. I don't take this lightly and I don't take it for granted. I am very aware that it comes from hard work, limitless passion and unweavery dedication, not just luck and good fortune, but nevertheless I am grateful every single day for this life and for being healthy, being able to do all of this, and for all the people in my path who trust me, inspire me, support me, challenge me, and enlighten me!

SOUND DESIGN GIGS & LIVE SOUND MIXING GIGS Similarly to the list above, I am eternally greatful for the fact that all these wonderfully talented people trust me with designing, mixing and amplifying their sound so that the rest of the world can truly and fully experience their art in the most complete, sonically articulated, detailed and full spectrum way there is! Some of these highlights include:
Mixing a 90-piece orchestra + 90-piece choir playing the score to Stanley Kubrick "2001: A Space Odyssey" live-to-picture  conducted by Brad Lubman in the Auditorio Nacional of Mexico City to a sold-out crowd of 10'000 people

Killers of the Flower Moon (for the story, the acting and the soundtrack)
Equalizer 3 (because aside from its Hollywood-ish story and ending, it's a realistic look at how organized crime works in Italy)
Little Richard: I am Everything (for his story, his character, his music and his courage!)
Psychedelicized: The Electric Circus Stroy (for the amazing portrait of a time that's past but that changed NYC forever!)
American Symphony (for the amazing story, talent, spirit and courage of Jon Batiste)
32 Sounds (because my life is about sound…)
Hallelujah: Leonard Cohen, A Journey, A Song (because Leonard was an amazing artist and songwriter and singer and so many friends are in this movie)
Oppenheimer (because that history is so complex and so divided as the country in which it took place)
TRAVEL Travel is the richess of life! I travel SO MUCH that I am on a plane AT LEAST once a month and usually it is to an international location… This year was no different, so I've decided to only list 12 trips for this section:

June: Visiting London twice in one month to work and see amazing music shows, theater shows and art exhibits
July: coming back from London on July 6th only to realize that strangely there is no travel for the rest of this month! So weird and unusual!

December: DC-to-DF aka flying to Washgington DC to work at the White House and then flying straight to Mexico City I've finished the year with travel to my motherland of Switzerland, my fatherland of Italy and my second home of London UK!

The last person you wanted to see at this meeting was your older brother. The same brother who left you in the hands of Chuuya Nakahara and the Port Mafia years ago, but all you can see now are the pleading eyes of Osamu Dazai begging for forgiveness.

chapter five
✧・゚: *✧・゚:*✧・゚: *✧・゚:*✧・゚: *✧・゚:*✧・゚: *✧・゚:*✧・゚: *✧・゚:*
“Do you want to talk about it?” Chuuya asked as the two of you sat on his couch.
You glanced over at him quickly before averting your eyes back to your hands as you played with the sleeve of your shirt, “Why does he act like everything is normal?”
Chuuya sighed, “Hasn’t he tried explaining it to you?”
He has. Every time you’ve seen each other he's attempted to explain but you weren't interested in his stories. You just wanted an apology, for him to say he missed you, for him to act as if he cared even if it was just pretend.
“He’s so much happier now, without me. He never even tried to reach out” You spoke, your eyes filling with tears. “He doesn’t even know, does he?”
Chuuyas eyes darted to your wrist as you played with your sleeve. “He knows. I told him.”
You looked up at him as he spoke, “When?”
“The day it happened”
You nodded, your mind flooding with memories from that night.
It was the night Chuuya came home after meeting with Dazai for the first time in years, his eyes looking brighter than usual. He rambled on and on about what Dazai was doing and how much better he looked. He tried explaining why Dazai left but you didn’t hear a thing.
“Please stop” was all you managed to say before breaking down in tears.
You could see the light dim in Chuuyas eyes as he wrapped his arms around you,
“‘m sorry. Just thought you’d wanna know” he mumbled
Sure, you’ve cried over your brother before, more times than you could count but this time was different. This time you knew for a fact that he was happier without you, living a completely different life without his little sister and that broke you even more. You had calmed down enough for Chuuya to head to bed, leaving you on the couch with your own thoughts. You sat in the dark for what felt like hours before slowly making your way to the bathroom.
You sat down slowly on the toilet seat as you held a razorblade you had found in one of the drawers in your hand. You whispered an apology before sliding the blade over your wrist. You felt instant regret as you watched the blood flow down your arm, your mind becoming foggy as you screamed for Chuuya. The last thing you remembered was the door swinging open and a voice yelling for you to stay with him.
You woke up the next day in a hospital bed, Mori and Chuuya standing in the room.
“I’m sorry” You whispered, causing them both to look at you.
“You lost a lot of blood but Chuuya brought you just in time” Mori spoke as he lifted your arm to inspect the stitches he had done.
“He isn’t worth this, ya know? You can be happy without him” Chuuya said, watching as Mori looked over your wrist. “Don’t do that dumb shit again”
You smiled softly. Although it was unfortunate circumstances, this day caused you and Chuuya to become closer than ever.
You were brought back to reality when Chuuya snapped his fingers in front of you,
“Huh?” You asked, looking up from your now faded scars.
“I said, you wanna get something to eat?”
“Sorry, lost in thought. Sure, we can get something” You smiled
“There's a new Mexican restaurant I’ve been wanting to try. Apparently they have-” Chuuya was cut off by his phone ringing, “I have to take this” He spoke, standing up and walking to the kitchen
You sat quietly, listening as Chuuya whisper-yelled to whoever was on the other end of the phone.
“You idiot, that is the worst fucking idea you’ve ever had”
You rolled your eyes, now having an idea of who he was talking to, you decided the conversation wasn’t worth listening in on.
You scrolled on your phone, only looking up when you heard footsteps approaching.
“Okay, don’t be mad but-”
Your eyes narrowed as he spoke, “Chuuya, I swear to fucking god-”
Just as Chuuya was about to respond, you heard a familiar knock at the door.
You took a deep breath before looking from the door back to the man in front of you,
“I hate you both”

So this is what I've been cooking up for the last few weeks.
I've been a major fan of their Cross Guild poly writing for a hot minute. (I still can't believe I was 10 fanfics deep before realizing they were written by the same beautiful mind) and one of my favorite fics that GothRaven wrote was "Little Star Lost, Lots of Love Found" (a FANTASTIC read, could not recommend it enough).
I just adored how they wrote Crocodile and Mihawk not only as men finding vulnerability, but sharing it with their new nakama in Buggy's crew. (Them genuinely wishing their babies had Buggy's nose was what sold me. 😩💖)
Little details and logic on some pieces;
Oberon's suit is more related to the Zoot Suits of the 30's (peak mafia era while comedy was at it's full time swing).
Interestingly enough, the men who wrote these suits irl were of the Mexican demographic, whom many are religious, thus is why i gave Oberon a silver cross to match his father Mihawk.
Meanwhile, Orion's style is much closer to pirates but to a more romantic nature, which is what goth was derived from. And to balance out with his brother, Orion wears a baroque style necklace to carry something of his father Crocodile aside from his name.
Once, the twins were old enough, they chose their first tattoos in dedication for their sibling in the sky, Hikari. Orion's takes a more astrological approachto his tribute (thank you @wordy-little-witch for the alphabet) while Oberon takes a more nautical spin.
And yes, those red dots in both tattoos are, in fact, Buggy's signature nose. I have no doubt Hikari would've also had it.
I hope you've enjoyed this piece. I had a LOT of fun making it.

Happy Worldbuilding Wednesday! What would you say is the defining trait of any of your settings?
Omg, this is a very difficult question to answer because I do a LOT of worldbuilding, haha. But let's see...
I think, technically, the most defining traits of my settings is how different they are? I hop around the (in-universe) world in each individual story, and each in-universe country is inspired by real world cultures. But mostly drawing inspiration from ancient cultures because I explicitly prefer ancient history to modern. Plus, it's more fun to research. Which--ha--I'm definitely in the minority for feeling this way, I know!
I actually mentioned this recently toward the very end of another post I made recently, but I'll restate it for convenience's sake, haha... and then go into more detail.
Glavnran (tAR) is Slavic (drawing primarily from early Slavic history, while I do my absolute best to figure out what the folklore was like before Christianity got its grubby hands on it. A polytheistic spinoff of Christianity exists in my story, appropriating a lot of its themes and imageries. That religion exists nowhere near Glavnran, so it has no place there. Also I think I've made it clear I dislike Christianity.)
Jhandar (tAR) is Indian (off the top of my head, I can't recall if I was taking from any specific era, but I'm drawing on inspiration from Hinduism and there's a prominent caste system. Jhandar is also an empire, drawing inspiration from Rome and especially the rule of the Qin Dynasty of China. While not exactly thematically relevant, it's fun and helps explain some things I wanted happening in Glavnran/the surrounding countries. Oh, yeah, Glavnran is under the thumb of the Jhandan Empire. It's why there's so much tension between the Glavni and Jhandan peoples.) (Also, the blue-and-red coloration here isn't a "good-and-evil" thing. To anyone who's read anything about my writing, it should be VERY clear that Glavnran isn't a great place and is, in fact, full of crime and -phobias of all sorts. It's based on their temperatures/climate, haha. I would've put Glavnran as orange but that fits other countries better.)
Lynsmouth (SaS) is Western European (the Western World gets a lot of focus in media, so Lynsmouth and the country it takes place in that I've definitely named get to be the Token "West" in my writing. It gets inspiration from all over Western Europe, but I've primarily focused on France and the Netherlands for it. It's also got Italian-style mafias, haha. They have the Christian-adjacent religion where they glorify a single god. It is, however, subtly dying out, because of Lore and immigration of a sort. The "new arrivals" so to speak have their own religions.)
Kihroin (RFtA) is Northern African (as in Islamic. I'm most likely leaning most strongly into Morrocan inspiration for anything "modern", but obviously most strongly leaning toward ancient history. Islam itself obviously won't appear in my writing, as I'm working within a fantasy world with provably real pantheons of gods. I haven't decided how I'll adapt their hyper-religiousness into Kihroin, especially because I'm personally uncomfortable with religion (though I bet you couldn't tell) and yet want to adapt something that major to their modern culture(s) into my writing. Yet another reason RFtA isn't a current project.)
Cirrane (RFtA) is Latin American (given that actual Native American history is incredibly difficult to get our hands on--cough cough THANKS COLONIZERS, THANKS CHRISTIANITY cough cough--it has a lot more modern inspiration(s) than ancient. Howeverrrr... that's not necessarily a "bad" thing considering that Cirrane is a very bad place and I know plenty of people will @ me accusing me of racism for it anyway. Nah, man, it's pretty much everywhere in my writing! It's almost like it makes for a better story! Also my Mexican gf approves of what I'm doing with it, so take THAT, SJWs.) (Oops, I ranted there for a second. Long story short, it takes a lot of inspiration from all over Latin America! That applies to the other two "Latino" countries too, though, haha. Besides that, it's also stolen quite a bit of imagery from Rome. Ah, that must be where the Evil's from. /hj)
Tzakah (RFtA/tCC) is also Latin American (one of my favorite places in all of my worldbuilding!!! Is also extremely tropical. It's a lot more "original" of a culture due to worldbuilding stuff, but it still takes a lot of Latin American Inspiration.)
Minogua (RFtA/tCC/???) is the last Latin American country (explicitly has a previous history of colonization that they've (relatively) recently shaken off through rebellion and ousting the authorities from other countries. Tackles a lot of those issues a lot more directly and has them more modern than the other two. Though it makes sense considering Tzakah was previously part of Cirrane. Regardless! There's lots to possibly tap into, but Minogua so far only has characters originating from there. Well, and minor plots relevant to those characters but y'know. I definitely want to eventually make a story placed there eventually to more directly explore its themes!)
Honorable mentions/speedrun:
Isagnea (tAR, though idk how much it'll show up, and ???) is Italian (not very worked on, but it's the home country of some side characters... hence why it's not really worked on. It'll definitely see more attention if and when it becomes relevant. Most likely, it won't be until if/when I work on another story focused on those characters. Or, y'know, it appears in another story.)
Ilyich (tAR, tho it likely won't show up more than once) is Slavic (country Glavnran was once a part of, before they split off (not peacefully) over religious differences. Methinks a Christian-esque religion might actually be rather hated by the Glavni people...)
Shilyma (tAR, mentioned but not visited) is a Slavic/Asian mix! (so, yknow, likely would take inspo from Mongolia? Not too developed, but is like Tzakah in that its origins are unique.)
Anispe (tAR, end of series, and ???) is Greek (spoilers! 😁 But Jhandar is actively at war with it, trying to get them under its thumb as well! I have Plots to eventually make a story centered on Anispe before it was Anispe, too!)
Shaoraigh (SaS) is Celtic (an oldie but goodie! I did a good bit of worldbuilding here in the past even though it's never appeared in my writing. One of its gods are VERY important in the worldbuilding, however.)
Drønhals (SaS) is Celtic/Norse (Freya's home country, was once part of Shaoraigh (in-universe) but they separated over religious differences!)
Tulidin (tCC) is Chinese (I'm probably changing its name eventually, though. Also has minor worldbuilding and a character originating from there.)
Shoutout to misc unnamed countries that exist, but I've never gotten around to naming them for one reason or another! Like, for example, the Jhandan-Glavni colonies Rieka and Adilzhan are from and the Hawaiian-and-Japanese-inspired country hidden away from the rest of the world. (Wish I could make it Pure Hawaiian, but... you try doing research on Hawaii. Join me in my hatred for Christianity.)
Can you tell I've been writing/working on this world for ten years?
This post has gotten WAY longer than I was expecting (though really I should've figured, smh) so I'll make this last bit quick:
The technology contained within each country/story is very different, both due to wealth gaps and time period jumps! There's... a lot of worldbuilding. The Arcane Rifts takes place approximately 200 years before Sun and Shadow and Rising From the Ashes (which are connected to each other), so that on top of the exploitation from Jhandar means they're not going to have the greatest tech for example. Sorry this was so long! Hope you enjoyed reading!!!
Also, apparently I have more of Western Europe in my worldbuilding than I thought. Now I'm disappointed in myself.
Also-also, I misread this Ask. I thought it was asking for the defining traits in everything... whoops. I made this WAY harder on myself than I needed to.
Tagging those interested!: @the-golden-comet @the-letterbox-archives @honeybewrites @darkandstormydolls @mysticstarlightduck

These are some concepts I developed for good ol' Ulrika. (It's all wip)
I forgot to mention: everything previously stated before this post about her and her relationships has been retconned
-------------------------------------------------------------------------
Backstory in a nutshell:
2008: The swedish hitman 'Ulrik Bielke I' migrates to Russia wanting to join the Mafia. The Russian Organized Crime tests his loyalty for a whole year before accepting him as a member, foreigners face stricters trials and rules.
2009: Ulrik I is accepted and quickly marries with a russian woman from within the organization. Plans to climb to the top by establishing the Bielke family as the top hitmen in the group.
2010: Ulrik Bielke II is born. During this decade the country stands out as one of the leaders for bioweapons development and human augmentation.
2015: Ulrik II's brutal training and conditioning begins. Within the same year, Ulrik I offers himself for mechanical augmentation to extend his career as the Russian Organized Crime's influence and power gradually creeps higher in the country. They acquire access to human augmentation technology to test it with their men.
2027: Ulrik II's training pays off and becomes one of the top hitmen at 17, accomplishing the first step of his father's plan. The same year, the 'Aug Incident' takes place and Ulrik II along other colleagues are forced to kill Ulrik I. The ensuing battle left all the men severely mutilated, leading to all of them being mechanically augmented. The loss of his father left Ulrik II mentally unstable.
2030: A gradually unstable Ulrik II resolves in continuing his father's wishes and follows his footsteps. Marries with a woman from the Organization and impregnates her. After finding out the baby is a girl, he thinks of forcing an abortion but decides not to as the girls can be married to influential members of the group.
2031: Sara Bielke is born. A few months later he goes through a second succesful augmentation surgery but is rendered infertile. Frustrated, he decides to raise his daughter as if she were a son and changes her name to Ulrika Bielke.
2034: Ulrika Bielke's brutal training and conditioning begins the moment she learns how to walk. The training encompasses more than 'hitman activity' as it aims to turn her into a fullblown field agent, adapting to the evolving nature of the 'members who get dirty', which are becoming more sophisticated.
2042: Ulrik II grows more deranged and forces Ulrika to go through light mechanical augmentation. He's against radical alterations since he's afraid it could render her with long lasting health issues like infertility (But near death training is somehow ok). He concludes the amputation and replacement of her arms is the best lightest choice. Since then til the age of sixteen Ulrika required multiple limb replacement to match her growing body.
2050: Ulrika is chosen among other agents for deployment to Mexico to support the Russo-Mexican Alliance which was just consolidated. Ulrika mades up her mind and uses this opportunity to truly prove her worth, as she grew feeling inadequate for never meeting her father's expectations. It's during this time where a previously sheltered, or rather isolated Ulrika realizes mechanically augmented people are viewed as lower class citizens and are discriminated upon. This adds anger to the indifference she felt towards the world.
2052: A member of the Luminous Path Triad contacts The Russian Organized Crime to hire a 'gweilo gangster' to work as a field agent. This member is Tracer Tong, flexing the reach of his contacts to seek foreign aid that is free of Majestic-12 control. (Paul Denton had been sent back to New York and Tong needed a replacement to investigate Versalife). Ulrika is chosen for the task as she had been nothing short of excelent in the past two years in Mexico. After failing to infiltrate Versalife, Ulrika's whole worldview slowly crumbles when she's exposed to all the conspiracies and meets JC Denton.
Random characterization ideas:
Ulrika, like JC, has been raised her whole life to be a living weapon. Weapons are tools, and tools don't talk, don't think, and don't act without input. They must perform and most importantly, be effective. An ineffective tool is discarded: incompetence is death. Ulrika, however, and unlike JC, was not raised to be a weapon to "protect the weak and punish the evil" (or that's what JC thought he was doing in UNATCO). She hurts others to perpetuate "injustice and evil", although she doesn't view it that way.
Ulrika thirsts for power as her inner desire is to be the best, and she wants so to maker her father proud, to finally deem her worthy. Such ambition has been her life goal since forever, and once she accomplishes this, she thinks, she'll be able to conquer the Organization. This goal changes when she arrives to Hong Kong and meets JC Denton, realizing that all she believed to be important is miniscule in comparison to what she could achieve by sticking around him: true world conquest.
Talking about JC, she views him as what she should've been since the begining, what her father desired her to be. She develops an infatuation for him, although it's all focused on his skills and lethality. In truth, she can't give a damn about his personality or feelings, all that matters is that he's the strongest, most dangerous person in the planet. She'll encourage him to merge with Helios, not to save humanity or fix the state of the world but to gain total control and total power. She'll support the idea of annihilating all dissidents and would 100% erase the organization off the map. (Which is unnataible as Rusia becomes the Omar's birthplace. Ulrik II becomes a member, ceasing to be.)

As all the intelligent rural and southern American women fled to higher populated cities with more economic activity for a better future, butthurt rural white men enacted several plans, out of anger, to force these women back into their hands. These included poisoning the cities, flooding them with illegal firearms, and flooding them with drugs laced with rat poison, by intercepting the drugs on their smuggling routes via prison connections between white supremacist gangs and Mexican drug cartels, and then lacing them with rat poison and other toxic substances. They then have proceeded to blame the Jews. As American cities are the center for the economic activity that powers rural communities, they have fucked everyone over, but mostly themselves. Rural America is dead, and the drug manufacturers are going to be pissed once they figure out that their products were soiled by the betrayal and tampering of their American traffickers. I expect retribution once new cartel leaders take over after U.S. special forces are done assassinating the old ones. Will likely be a lot of prison shanking coming up. They could have avoided all this by just cooperating instead of constantly betraying everyone. If I was Mossad I would gladly do the job of the drug cartel assassins for them, in broad daylight, in a way to shame their family name for eternity. This is a part of the treason mentioned by the Trump campaign taking place within the Republican Party. Trump is not on their side, and he was never on their side. Trump is a New Yorker that fucks with street gangs and the Jewish mafia, not piddly little butthurt rural crybabies.

( however, then need the help of germen special forces to hunt her down and arrest her since she is no longer in mexican soil.)
it was a regular day on ur base as a lieutenant. you were helping the new rookies on their training it was a long day and you can feel ur head pounding from all the screaming u need because of the rookie "Du Idiot, weißt du nicht, wie man eine Pistole nachlädt?!!" (you idiot do you not know how to reload a pistol?!!) you just stood there in anger and in disappointment of the rookie staring dagger into him as he struggles to reload his pistol. he flinched from the sudden scream out of u he started to apologise and get nervouse u could see he was starting shake struggling to put the loaded magazine back into the pistol. hours past as you were still stuck with the same group of rookies. it felt like it had been years with the rookies but it was probably because of the headache u have otherwise u liked helping out new rookies. the training session finally ended u walked over to the kitchen of the base to make yourself the strongest coffee u could find hoping u last throughout the day when u got to the kitchen u meet ur captain and u greeted him.
he greeted back with a smile he seemed to be in a good mood today. he then spoke up "Chaos, um 17 Uhr gibt es in meinem Büro ein Treffen mit unseren anderen Teamkollegen. Es gibt ein paar Dinge, die ich besprechen muss. Komm nicht zu spät" (Chaos there is a meeting at 5pm in my office with our other teammates there's a few things i need to discuss DO NOT BE LATE) u replied with a simple nod. u wanted to make ur a coffee and leave the kitchen because it was starting to feel awkward as both of u were silent when u finally had ur coffee made u took off hoping to take a 5-minute break in peace and quiet hoping ur headache to go away and praying that u wouldn't have to go get medicine despite u being strong and scary u hated taking medicine. u took ur coffee and looked at ur watch making sure u wont be late for the meeting u still had an hour left so u opened ur new cigar pack. putting one in ur mouth and lighting it.
when u finished ur cigar u made ur way over to the meeting that captain held in his office with 5 minutes to spare u thought it was better to be early than late. u reached the big wooden door in front of u and u hesitated but u knocked twice waiting for the captain to give u permission to enter after a second the captain said "Komm herein" (come in!) u turned the door nob and pushed the door u walked in the room and u saw a couple of ur teammates waiting for the others u took a seat next to ur captain as u greeted ur teemmates after what felt like forever everyone was in the meeting and ur captain started to speak up "Wir haben ein neues Ziel, eine Frau namens Valeria." ( we have a new target a woman named Valeria.)

Ylenia Carrisi was a 23-year-old woman who went missing in the city of New Orleans, Louisiana on January 6, 1994. 5'7 and 120 lbs, she was a tall slim woman with strawberry blonde hair and green eyes. Ylenia was the daughter of Al Bano, a famous Italian singer and Romina Power, an American singer who would later form a group with Al Bano. Ylenia's grandparents were Tyrone Power, a famous actor from 1930's and Mexican actress Linda Christian.
Al Bano and Romina were often referred to as the Sonny and Cher of Italy. Ylenia was practically born in the public eye.
When she was around 13 she would star with her parents in a film called Champagne in Paradiso.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
When Ylenia was 24, she became a household name when she appeared on the Italian version of the American show Wheel of Fortune. She was so successful in her role that she was deemed the Italian "Vanna White."
Tumblr media
However, Ylenia wanted to be more than just a pretty face on television. She aspired to be a novelist. She had been attending college in London and majoring in literature, when she decided to take a sabbatical and go backpacking through America for inspiration. She spends some time in the small village of Hopkins in Belize before going to New Orleans.
"The Mafia at the time was kidnapping kids, especially kids from famous families, so they wanted Ylenia to live somewhere else," a friend said.
In the summer of 1993, she takes a trip to New Orleans, Louisiana with her parents and becomes enamored with the city. She found inspiration for the novel she planned to write, which she intended to be a gritty account of the down and out life of the street musicians in New Orleans. She spends the next few months mulling over this idea.
While in New Orleans, she had met a street musician - 54-year-old cornet player Alexander Masakela. She strikes a friendship with him. While her parents continue to travel, Ylenia decides she wants to stay in New Orleans longer.
who was known for playing trumpet in the French Quarters, a bustling tourist area. She checked into Le'Dale hotel with Alexander, which is a popular hotel for travelers because it was only five blocks from the popular French Quarter. Alexander was known as a "yarn-spinner with a penchant for charming young women." He often made friends with young women traveling around New Orleans.
Tumblr media
Ylenia asked for a room with two beds. The hotel manager who checked them in didn't get a romantic vibe from them, saying they just seemed to be helping each other out. People say that she really tried to throw herself into the culture, to learn more about the people she was writing about.
On January 6, 1994, Ylenia leaves the hotel alone at about 11am. She was wearing a long floral print dress and a waist-length jacket to head to the French Quarter.
Tumblr media
And from there, she just vanishes. No one that week noticed her disappearance. It was only when Alexander showed Ylenia's hotel passport to hotel staff and attempted to pay the room bill with an unendorsed traveler's check and was consequently evicted, did anyone notice something was wrong.
Tumblr media
Alexander asked hotel staff if they could keep some stuff behind the desk for a few hours and handed over a backpack, but he never returned to retrieve it. This would turn out to be Ylenia's backpack filled with all of her clothing, her personal items, including her passport, camera and notebooks.
She was finally reported missing by her parents on January 18, when they hadn't heard from her since New Year's Day. They were back in Italy by that time.
Tumblr media
Not much is known about the initial police investigation, but they did question Alexander, who said he was never romantically or sexually involved with Ylenia, saying she rebuffed his advances and that he didn't know where she was. He said he was sure she was fine, though, wherever she was.
When Alexander later spoke to the media, he said, "All of a sudden I'm Simon Legree in all of this, and it is not justified." Simon Legree was the cruel slave-owner character in the book Uncle Tom's Cabin.
But then just a few days later, Alexander was arrested on an unrelated charge. An ex-girlfriend had come forward accusing him of rape. He was eventually released, due to lack of evidence. Police have also been unable to connect him to any foul play in connection to Ylenia's disappearance.
Some other possible leads are that on January 6, a young blonde woman was reported as having jumped into the Mississippi River, near the Aquarium of Americas, right on the edge of the French Quarter. A security guard said he noticed a woman sitting on a wharf, just staring at the river. He asked her to leave, because the area was closed and it was late at night. He recalls the woman saying, 'Well, I belong in the water anyway,' before standing up and diving headfirst into the river, fully clothed. He said it was clear this girl was a strong swimmer and that this wasn't a suicide attempt. He begged her to come back to shore but she continued swimming away to the center of the river. Some people are caught swimming in that river, especially when they've been around the French Quarter and drinking all day. But the river is misleading. While it appears calm on the surface, it has a dangerous undertow and the currents move fast. A big tanker ended up coming around the corner and the woman began screaming for help as she struggled to stay afloat. She kept disappearing under the water, and eventually, she doesn't come up again. The security guard who had witnessed all this happen in a matter of seconds alerts the Coast Guard who turn up to search for the woman. But there's never a sign of anyone.
The security guard, however, is not convinced it was Ylenia. Based on the photographs police showed him, he said it didn't look like her. Ylenia's parents also didn't believe the girl was their daughter.
Some claim they saw a sighting of Ylenia after she was reported missing. But the mystery of where Ylenia is has never been solved. Every year, several tourists go missing in the French Quarter, without a trace. She is still missing to this day.

The border issue is going to resolve itself pretty soon here.
My prediction:
Mexico is going to experience an industrial and economic boom, over the coming century. It will quickly catch up with the United States and Canada, and if it makes some reforms domestically, perhaps with the US' and Canada's guidance, will become a very prosperous place.
Enough so that there won't be a NEED to illegally migrate northwards, and more Mexican people will simply migrate not because of poverty or desperation, but because they may prefer the US or Canada. In fact, Mexico's standard of living and the worth of their currency may grow to something more close to the US.
And then North America will work on combatting illegal immigration from the rest of South America. Which will involve similar measures to combat mafia, government corruption, extreme poverty and inequality, and better business practices.
Once Mexico has better industry and better transportation to and from its states, it'll have tons of good paying jobs and new places to live that aren't a haphazardly linked federal hell. That means those that come northwards looking for work won't have a reason to venture northwards.
Hilariously, the issue of illegal immigration.. will be solved with capitalism.
