new "things I noticed in the Walpurgisnacht Rising trailer" post: coherent edition

I'm going with the theory (laid out very well here) that the extra Homuras we keep seeing around are the Clara Dolls, either presenting in a different way or having matured into witches themselves. With that in mind:

These two shots show the same doll, Nekura, judging by both the headband and the wavy tips of the hair that homura doesn't normally have. Her eyes are also red, and she's wearing the black collar with white outlines reminiscent of her Doll form.

This looks to be Ibari, though I'm not 100% sure on that, given the colour of the hair. Probably just the lighting. Her role as Pride also fits with the imagery of her scrutinising the audience here, likely Homura in context.

Could also potentially be Noroma (Blockhead), though I don't think the visual fits quite as well. She is said to "laugh at the witch with her eyes," though, which would match with what she's doing here.

Though this Homura has her original purple eyes and white collar, the unusual headband and especially the engraving on the mirror ("Stupid Venus") make me quite confident that this is Manuke (Stupid-Looking). The band isn't a 100% match, but this also makes sense given that Manuke is representative of Homura during the time between the main series and Rebellion, matching with what's shown in the mirror. The headband is also tied in the same way as Madoka's ribbon was in her hair, which might explain the lack of resemblance to Manuke's headwear.

Not much to say about this shot, other than that the style and colours of those stairs combined with the familiar pattern around them resembling Oktavia's tail make me think this is a shot from within her labyrinth.

Other than the clear Icarus symbolism, the main thing worth noting about this shot is the streak of red in Homura's hair, extending out from underneath Madoka's ribbon (or its replacement). Probably an extension of the ribbon symbolically too, showing how bound she is to Madoka.

Unless these are Magia Record characters I'm unaware of, I think that the unadorned ring and black fingernail marking lend credence to the idea that these are the magical girls who once became witches in the original series. The only one I really have a guess on is this girl, where the fact that she's watching over a kintsugi glass holding the garden where Homura and Kyoko met in rebellion, the roses on her purse, and the glasses lead me to believe that this is Gertrud, the Rose Garden Witch. Her Adelbert familiars are said to have 2.5 vision.

This book appears to contain images of witches and their familiars. I managed to spot familiars belonging to Charlotte, Elly, possibly Patricia, Gertrud, and Oktavia, as well as Izabel and Elsa Maria themselves, though I'm sure there are more.

There's a single frame flash of Oktavia here!

The symbolism of the teacup next to the pool of blood makes me assume that this is Mami (or Candeloro!), though maybe I'm flanderising her. The rim of the cup and saucer do have a pattern faintly reminiscent of a flower, which reinforces this a little.

Here are the girls whose poses differ to their individual artwork. They're different since I suppose all of them needed to be facing forwards but not all of them are in their og art. These poses are instead taken from group shots from the witches artwork book.

And this one for Reiketsu. Okubyou, Yakimochi and Namake reappear here but Reiketsu is exclusive to this one. (With Higami and Manuke being exclusive to the first)

So the poses aren't entirely new but it's still cool to see them individually and in high quality. Just seeing all of them in such high quality is amazing honestly (I never knew Mie was brunette, I thought her hair was black :T )

As the University of California, Los Angeles is reeling from a late-night attack on a student protest encampment for Gaza last week, attention is turning to the disparate group of counter-protesters who had rallied against the encampment in the lead-up to the violence, including during chaotic dueling rallies two days before. Many witnesses to the 30 April melee observed that the small group of assailants – many of them masked – did not appear to be students. More than 30 people were injured, according to the Council on American-Islamic Relations (Cair). Authorities are still working to identify the perpetrators, and have not made any arrests.

But researchers studying hate and anti-government groups have confirmed the presence at the counter-demonstrations of several far-right activists who have been involved in anti-LGBTQ+ and anti-vaccine protests across southern California over the past three years. Narek Palyan, an Armenian-American from Los Angeles’ Van Nuys neighborhood, was photographed on UCLA’s campus on 26 April amid a group of counter-protesters, and again on the evening of 30 April, hours before the assault on the protest camp. Palyan took part in several “Leave Our Kids Alone” demonstrations at school board meetings in southern California over the past year, where he was at times photographed making Nazi salutes. His social media history is rife with antisemitic and anti-LGBTQ+ posts. The Leave Our Kids Alone protests have cropped up at school board demonstrations, book readings and Pride celebrations throughout southern California, focusing anger from conservative parents on the recognition of LGBTQ+ identity and students in both curriculums and classrooms.

The demonstrations, part of a broader rightwing effort to sow unrest and undermine an alleged “liberal agenda” at US schools, have at times been marked by violence and drawn far-right participants from around the region, including people associated with local Proud Boy and Three Percenter militia chapters and fundamentalist Christian churches.

Manuk Grigorian, one of the organizers of some of the southern California “Leave Our Kids Alone” protests, was also present at the counter-protests at UCLA on 30 April. Grigorian frequently appeared on Fox News to discuss the school board demonstrations last summer, where he leveled false claims that certain public education districts were “grooming” children to develop LGBTQ+ identities. Michael Ancheta, a former mixed martial arts fighter who in the past associated with southern California Proud Boys and assaulted a journalist at a 2021 anti-vaccine protest in West Hollywood, was spotted among the pro-Israel crowd at UCLA on on 28 April, when pro-Israeli and pro-Palestinian protesters staged dueling rallies near the encampment, and again on 30 April. Ancheta, who until recently ran an Instagram account under the handle “Antifahunter”, has been a frequent participant in the Leave Our Kids Alone demonstrations.

[...] The reason these counter-demonstrators are drawn to protests over the war in the Middle East, he said, was that they see them through the prism of a broader rightwing view that “traditional” societies and families are under threat. “Their animosity towards the campus demonstrations are part of this Christian far-right perspective that LGBTQ folks are threats to Christianity, and so are Palestinians or Muslims,” Cravens said.

Beyond UCLA, a number of far-right actors, including a violent white supremacist charged in connection with January 6, the founder of the Proud Boys, and a former member of the streetfighting Neo-Fascist Rise Above Movement have stood alongside pro-Israel demonstrators confronting Gaza solidarity encampments at universities across the country.

Lindsay Schubiner, the program director at the Western States Center, has been tracking this trend. To her, the activist presence is part of a broader rightwing effort to sow chaos and undermine democratic institutions. “These white nationalists, religious extremists and anti-democracy actors are political actors who are opportunistic and strategic – they have a goal of ratcheting up the temperature and escalating tensions between groups, and when there’s so much attention on a situation like the current crisis in Gaza, they show up,” Schubiner said. “We’ve seen attempts to co-opt and reframe the debate about the current war by characterizing pro-Palestinian students and faculty as un-American, which is incredibly troubling.” Gene Block, UCLA’s chancellor, has condemned the attack by “instigators” on 30 April, and Karen Bass, the Los Angeles mayor, has called the assault “abhorrent and inexcusable”. Bass likened the 30 April assault to the January 6 attack on the US Capitol.

The assault came after days of tension between camped-out students and counter-protesters at the Westwood campus. For days, counter-protesters turned up to the campus to confront the student demonstrators, with shouting matches occasionally erupting into scuffles. Aside from the rightwing school protesters, other extremist elements were documented on UCLA’s campus. On the weekend before the raid, photos emerged of a flag featuring the symbol the Jewish Defense League, a virulent Jewish supremacist organization founded by Meir Kahane that has committed “countless terrorist attacks in the US and abroad”, according to the Southern Poverty Law Center. The JDL was formally delisted as a terrorist organization by Joe Biden in 2022, over protests from Palestinian groups.

Why are far-right groups disrupting campus protests for Palestine? To cause trouble and stoke their war on “liberal colleges.”

"I see him! He's on the roof of the Kowareta Corporation!"

"All Might has returned!"

All Might smirked behind his mask, glancing to Rian-- Event Horizon-- on his left. His younger partner was wearing combat boots, gray cargo pants, and a skin-tight and sleeveless black top that led up into a black spiky collar and a half-mask and mirrored goggles. If the vigilante was being honest... Seeing him in that outfit was kind of a turn-on. But that could wait until later. "Our boy's ready in there?"

Event Horizon nodded, his purple-tipped brunette ponytail swaying cutely. His eyes were hard and angry, however. All Might could tell by the set of his eyebrows and the way his clenches fists twitched. This job was close to the young man's heart.

I'll keep an eye on him.

"Good. Then we'll get the party started."

All Might held up a fist, silencing the civilians below-- including those that were forming the picket line and protesting the company he stood upon, which had been discovered to have been adding talcum powder as a filler to their baby foods and formulas in a cheaper brand that was popular in low-income areas.

Seriously, the evil fucks thought that was a good idea? I doubt any decent heroes will bother showing up.

"Greetings, citizens! Been a while since we've seen each other! I've been taking a vacation, minding my own business... When much like you, I saw the news reports."

Everyone waited, the street almost seeming to hold it's breath.

"As we all know, the company is not going unpunished! Like a miracle, your voices were heard, and people are being brought to justice for their serious offense to the safety of our future! This corporation is being hit with more fines, forced retirements, and product pulls than many of us have seen in years..."

"... But I don't think that's enough. And neither do many of you."

Shouts of agreement rose up, and the vigilante smirked.

"You know who hasn't paid? Who hasn't been blasted by the news, or said a word about the deaths of the many young children who fell victim to this unimaginable terror? THE POLITICIAN WHO INTRODUCED THE BILL THAT LOOSENED FOOD PRODUCTION SAFETY REGULATIONS!"

At the signal, Izuku crashed through a darkened window on the front of the building, bunny-hopping his way up to the roof, to reveal he held a man by the collar as he dangled the bastard over the edge of the roof on All Might's right side.

The boy was clad in green and black, with boots decked out in reinforced steel soles to accommodate his kick-boxing style of combat, and an almost creepy mask with a plastered on smile and reflective green lenses covering the eyes.

"Meet my new apprentice... As well as Manuke Kusotare, the man who let this company have their way after taking numerous bribes-- as well as cheating on his wife! Funny how many things you can find out about a public figure. He's been hiding out to avoid being given any court summons or receiving any criticism... It's too bad that we found him before the police."

The roar of anger below was truly something to behold.

Damn, these people are really out for blood. It was a good move to make this Izuku's debut.

"But rest assured, citizens... We'll make sure you never have to see his face around here again."

Izuku dropped the politician, and everyone watched as the screaming man plummeted towards the concrete below-- only to disappear into one of Rian's portals, while the three vigilantes did the same once the attention was off of them.

The three stepped out on the other side of the portal, walking into the familiar concrete room in the back of the bar. There at the other side of the room was the politician, bruised but mostly fine.

"Good work, kid," the older man praised, clapping Izuku on the shoulder while he removed his mask. "You played the part perfectly. Had this guy shitting himself, and you didn't even speak!"

"Th-thanks sir," the blonde Izuku said, blushing as he pulled down both his hood and mask. "It was easier than I thought, too."

"And now we have a new friend..." Rian said quietly, casually twirling a knife. "Do I get him?"

"No babe..." Toshinori said softly, gently petting his husband. "I hate to say it... But I think it would be best if I dealt with this trash quickly. You should go home to Hinata and calm down."

The brunette's jaw clenched, and he looked like he would argue... But then his muscles loosened. Rian slowly nodded, putting his knives away. "You're... Right. I won't be able to look at her without thinking about those other kids, if I start fucking this guy up with you. I'll go home and start dinner."

"Do whatever you need to do, sweetheart," Toshinori said, kissing Rian's forehead.

"How does meatloaf sound?"

"Wonderful. We'll see you in a while."

Rian nodded, then gave Izuku a quick hug, smiling softly as he pet the teen's hair. "Remember, Izuku: don't fight these people out of anger. We're here to do what's right, not to settle grudges."

"Yes d-dad. I'll remember."

Rian and Toshinori exchanged one more smile before the younger man stepped through another of his portals. Standing up a little straighter, the two blondes turned towards the politician huddled in the corner.

"Now for the next phase..."

You have no idea how much fun it was coming up with bullshit names for the company and politician. If you speak Japanese, I'm not sorry at all.

Can we learn more about the Clara Dolls and how they function in the Third Reset?

As previously stated, they function as mouthpieces/avatars to the Demoness. Think something akin to Pink Pearl back when she was White Diamond's servant.

It's the only way Homucifer can approach the earthlings within the Barriers. They're also the Commanders of the Incubators and other lesser Minions, because the Demoness doesn't believe that they'll do a good job in terrorizing Earth without some guidance, HER guidance.

Due to not being at a funeral anymore, the Clara Dolls have newly programmed "mentalities" that surround on the hatred of Magis:

Ibari/Prideful: "Pesky Guardians... so arrogant! Why can't you just let me win?!";

Nekura/Pessimistic: "I'm tired of this... we all know how this ends, so let's get this over with.";

Usotsuki/Liar: "Are your motivations truly noble? Aren't you just making a fool out of yourselves?";

Reiketsu/Coldhearted: "We go too easy on these pests... let's just rip them apart!";

Wagamama/Selfish: "Why should I care about your concerns? What about ME?! Is my pain not important to you?!";

Warukuchi/Slanderous: "Always with the spectacles... what a bunch of clowns!";

Noroma/Guillible "Oh, are you guys playing a game? Let me play with you!";

Yakimochi/Jealous: "I thought you Guardians were kind and just... why is that you don't love me...?";

Namake/Neglectful: "How long do we have to keep on fighting...? Can't you guys just let me keep the souls...?";

Mie/Vain: "You vandals! Always ruining my beautiful works with your savage roughhousing!";

Okubyou/Coward: "Where?! Where are they?! Will they attack again?!";

Manuke/Stupid: "Oh, how I eagerly await to meet the Queen! I'm sure she'll be overjoyed to see me!";

Higami/Inferior: "Let us destroy this old world and craft a new one from its ashes! Let us free ourselves from this boring shell!";

Ganko/Stubborn: "This world is tarnished by sin, no redemption in sight. I will not back down on my mission!";

As for the ellusive 15th Doll, Ai/Love, she does not exist, because she is the Demoness herself. Her "mentality" remains unaltered from the original:

"These so-called Guardians are too simple-minded to comprehend the measure of my emotions... how I have grown accostumed to pain and suffering... this turmoil was all for the sake of love. Love is in the heart of all things. I thought they, out of all people, would understand that."

The Witchfinders claim that Ai/Love will finally appear once their cleansing mission is complete.

Hi. Let's take a moment to acknowledge the Clara Dolls.

You can briefly see some of the Clara Dolls lurking in the background near the end of the trailer. The first one balances an apple on her head. The second one is sporting a fancy teacup as a brand new hat. The last one seems to be wearing a witch's outfit. I am probably the only one who adores the fact that the Clara Dolls are still lurking in the background after all these years.

This might sound like an insane idea, but... What if the Clara Dolls are actually the reason why there are so many versions of Homura in the movie trailer?

Let's take a closer look at Umbrella Homura, shall we?

She's beautiful, but let's focus on her headband. It looks quite different from her past headband, doesn't it? But it reminds me of a certain doll.

Listed below are all the known dolls.

Nekura / Gloominess wears a hat that looks like it has a similar pattern to Umbrella Homura's headband.

If you look closely, Fancy Homura is wearing a flower in her hair. What doll has a similar flower? Well, there are multiple dolls that wear flowers in their hair. But Wagamama / Selfishness stands out to me the most since her flower is quite clear to see. However, another candidate has to be Mie / Vanity solely because of how elegant Fancy Homura is dressed.

I noticed that nearly every version of Homura is smiling in some form. Do you know who else likes to smile?

The Clara Dolls.

Overall, a lot of the smaller details in Homura's new outfits can be traced back to the Clara Dolls. An average fan might not know this, but the Clara Dolls used to be dress-up dolls that Homura used to own. Their names are meant to represent Homura. As you can tell, Homura has a pretty negative opinion on herself.

Disguising the Clara Dolls as other versions of herself would be a risky movie since these dolls are known to have free wills. They still obey their Mistress Good-for-Nothing, but they still have different personalities. These dolls have a lust for freedom. My theory is most likely going to be completely wrong. There are a lot of reasons on why there are a lot of multiple versions of Homura. Time travel can also be one of those reasons.

Nonetheless, I'm positive that the production team took some inspiration from the Clara Dolls when they were making all of these beautiful new outfits. Getting to see Homura in different outfits is a dream come true. Either way, I hope that the Clara Dolls are given more spotlight.

The Banda Sea is a marine ecoregion, as defined by the World Wildlife Fund. It is part of the Coral Triangle region, which has the greatest diversity of coral reef species in the broader Indo-Pacific. The islands surrounding the Banda Sea are part of Wallacea, a biogeographical region that contains the islands lying between Asia and Australia which haven't been joined to either continent. The islands of Wallacea are home to a mix of plant and animal species from both tropical Asia (the Indomalayan realm) and the Australasian realm which includes Australia and New Guinea. The islands are divided among several terrestrial ecoregions. The northern islands of Sulawesi, Buru, and Seram constitute separate tropical moist forest ecoregions. The islands south of the Banda Sea are among the driest in Indonesia, and are home to tropical dry forests. The Timor and Wetar deciduous forests ecoregion includes Timor and Wetar. The Lesser Sunda Islands from Alor through Flores and Sumbawa to Lombok constitute the Lesser Sundas deciduous forests ecoregion. The Tanimbar Islands, Kai Islands, and Barat Daya Islands (except for Wetar) in the southeastern Banda Sea form the Banda Sea Islands moist deciduous forests ecoregion. These islands are covered in mostly-intact rain forest, and home to a number of endemic plants and animals including twenty-one bird species, a very high number for this small ecoregion. There are only twenty-two native mammals on these islands, including the rare dusky pademelon (Thylogale brunii) and Indonesian tomb bat (Taphozous achates), and the endangered endemic Kei myotis bat (Myotis stalkeri). The birdlife is threatened by egg collectors and even more by cats and rodents that have been introduced to the islands. Yamdena in the Tanimbar Islands is an example of a large and fairly unspoilt habitat and is a protected area. The base for visiting these islands is by plane or ship from Ambon Island to the north. The Banda and Kai Islands, although remote, are visited by tourists for snorkelling and for their unspoilt beaches. I'm starving for witch content, this is the best I can do

I'm confident on Usotsuki since she's so clear and Okubyou because she just has such a distinctive hairstyle but a lot of them are kinda shaky...

I'm 90% sure that's Reiketsu because of her hair flick but not at all confident with Wagamama. I thought because of her hair shape and hat but the zoomed in girl especially just kinda doesn't look like any of them?? She seems to have brown/red hair like Usotsuki but then none of the girls with that colour have a hairstyle like that. Warukuchi's hair doesn't match at all with both the style and fringe. I'd say it could be Manuke but she's already got one (and if that's not her the one for Ganko could also be her...)

I'm mildly confident with Noroma's since the hairstyle and colour match. I thought it was Manuke for a second before I realised she had an apple on her head.

Less confident on Yakimochi and Namake and I'm more going on the hair length and vague colours. Same with Mie, I'm mostly going on the centre parting she has but there may be sticky-out hair that could be Wagamama's... hm

Manuke is still a bit eh like I said before. I'm imagining the bit on her head as her bun but it could be an outstretched arm. I know they've got different outfits but the skirt kinda matches too. You can tell with Okubyou their new outfits are still kinda similar to their old ones so this might work if Manuke had a similar skirt shape.

The thing that tipped me on Ganko is the white spots on her hat. I thought it was Manuke but then I realised the bun could be her pompom. The cape matches too.

The girls certainly have a cat (or perhaps Kyubey... ) theme here as seen with a few cat ears and tails which is super adorable. Please give them lots and lots of screentime
