What is Inktober?

And what's the controversy?

So in 2009, a concept artist and creator named Jake Parker started a challenge, mostly for himself, to complete a hand-drawn art piece for every day of October. In subsequent years, other artists worldwide joined in on the challenge, and from 2015(sic), Parker has posted a list of prompts prior to October for artists to inspire what they'd draw each day.

Originally, as the name suggests, Inktober participation would only count if you completed ink-drawn pieces on paper, often with a fountain pen, but it has since grown to a challenge incorporating all artistic mediums, include paints, music, writing, and even digital art.

But in 2019, Jake Parker made the decision to copyright the term "Inktober", meaning that artists trying to sell art under the "Inktober" title were receiving cease and desist notices or legal action would be threatened. Parker has given several reasons for the decision, including protecting his own work; books of his own art, and about doing ink art; and to not allow predatory profiting off the brand; people using the Inktober name of discriminatory tshirts or posters, selling merchandise using the brand name without permission from Jake Parker and his team.

He has assured artists that it is not his intention to scare artists away from participating in Inktober, or selling their own art made during the challenge. But there are guidelines on how to avoid action from his team. Artbooks must use Inktober as a subtitle and not as the main title, ideally, together with the year of the challenge (e.g. Doorbloggr: Inktober 2022), and avoid using the official Inktober Logo in any merchandising.

In August 2019, it came out that Parker may have plagiarised most of the content for his book "Inktober All Year Long" from an artist named Alphonso Dunn, and their book "Pen & Ink Drawing".

Rightfully so, this brutal stance and the controversy around it scared away a lot of artists from participating in the Official Inktober challenge. But luckily, the variety of artists that this original challenge brought in gave rise to iteration and elaboration on the idea. And so the Inktober spin-off was born.

October: A Month of Art

In the same way that Parker made prompt lists for each new October, many different communities made their own challenges with their own names and flavours. Many still have prompts for 31 days, while others ease it down to 16 days, or even once a week.

One of the first offshoots was Drawlloween in 2012. And from my own limited research, it may have not even been inspired by Inktober. It just so happened to also take place in October. Since October is Spooky Month, Drawlloween prompts are all based on Halloween, many very specific to pieces of spooky media and horror stories. In a similar vein, other Halloween themed challenges are Witchtober, Spooktober, Drawtober, and Goretober.

INKTtober is a spin-off I've seen on a couple different social media's I'm on that focuses specifically on Tattoo art. OCtober or OC October is a common one I see on Tumblr where each day is about an artist's Original Characters or OCs.

Other artists have grown the idea of a monthly challenge beyond October. And I wanna specifically shout out @regal-bones for their beautiful work on Swordtember (Sword designs in September) this year. Amazing work.

And finally, the one that I have been partaking in, Linktober. Linktober is a celebration of the Legend of Zelda series. The challenge began in 2015 as a spin-off of Drawlloween, and in 2016, the team created their first full month calender of prompts.

Each year of Linktober has brought a new calender of prompts and in some years, they even introduced alternate challenges that spice it up beyond just Legend of Zelda art. 2018 introduced Linktober Chance, where the prompt is only half finished and you roll a d6 dice to generate a more specific prompt. 2019 introduced Linktober Quest, where each day is part of a story about a Zelda OC you make and the adventure they go on to save the world. Linktober 2020 introduced Linktober Shadow, a counterpart to the regular challenge where every day is spooky, or about the villainous side of the Zelda series.

I want to talk more about my experience with Linktober, but I fear this post may be getting too long. So I will talk more about Art and Deadlines in a Part 2(?) to this post.

Yuri Game Studio Élan Hosts Online Festival; Announce New LGBT+ Games and Updates

On Saturday, Yuri visual novel studio and publisher Studio Élan hosted an online live stream, Élan Festival 2022, where it announced new LGBT+ games, updates, and merchandise. The stream, presented by the studio's VTuber Mascot, Melanie (Kalyn McCabe) is available to view on the studio's YouTube page.

Studio Élan announced that it would be publishing three new games from other studios under its publishing arm, Bellhouse:

Who is the Red Queen?

Who is the Red Queen is a Yuri horror game initially released as part of the Spooktober 3rd Annual Visual Novel Jam. Bellhouse will be helping release an expanded version on Steam this year. The creators describe the game:

Alice falls down the rabbit hole into a Wonderland not quite right. Meeting an eclectic collection of people, animals, and some things in between, she sets out on an adventure in this odd new place to find the missing Red Queen. Or, more specifically, to find the pieces of the dismembered queen whose body has been strewn across the land.

Love in a Bottle

Love in a Bottle is a point-and-click adventure romance game by solo developer lovelandisle with music by Hazel. The game follows a love demon trying to love in an undersea town. It features a texting system, four different romance options, and over 30 CGs. An optional R18 patch will also be available. The creator describes the game:

Ankora the Love Demon is tired of living underground in the shadows of her successful siblings, so she's decided to move up in the world and get an apartment in the Coral Sea Vivariums, an underwater series of domes populated by creatures of all kinds. She has a limited amount of time to prove she's able to make it on her own, but more importantly, there are HOT SINGLE WOMEN all over town and she wants to make her presence (and availability) known to them. Can she adjust to a new place and find love before time is up?!

Love in a Bottle has a tentative release date of Winter 2022.

Twofold

The follow-up to another Bellhouse release, First Snow, Twofold, by Salty Salty Studios and Studio Coattails, takes place one year after the original. It follows new and returning characters. Newcomer Olive, an outsider, works to fully understand the situation threatening to undo a close-knit group of friends. The creators describe the game:

Olive’s situation is dire. They're on the verge of being thrown out of college unless they can salvage their GPA, and their only chance rests on classes they know next to nothing about.

Their lifeline: two club leaders who are more than willing to help them succeed. However, no solution is that easy. Olive soon finds themself in the middle of a conflict between these two friends that threatens to undo their long-standing love for each other.

Twofold will be released in 2022.

Studio Élan also announced new merchandise for their celebrated 2019 fantasy Yuri visual novel Heart of the Woods. The studio will be collaborating with Limited Run Games to release physical editions of the visual novel for PS4 and Nintendo Switch. The physical releases will feature reversible cover art by Satchel (Doki Doki Literature Club). A collectors edition with a box case, soundtrack, artbook, and "extra goodies" will also be released.

Additionally, both of the game's soundtracks Moonlight and Snowfall, are being released on vinyl from Very Ok Vinyl, with new artwork by Adirosa.

Please Be Happy

The Please be Happy demo was released last year. Although the game was stated to have a release date of 2021, it missed that goal. The stream addressed this, with Melanie saying, "this game ended up being as long as our two released games (Highway Blossoms and Heart of the Woods) combined. The studio is on track to release the game later this year but does not have an official date as of yet.

Born as a fox in the forest of Korea, Miho carries with her the memory of a traveler who showed her kindness and spoke of home. Now more human than fox, Miho has spent a long, long time searching for her person. She arrives by airship to Wellington Skyport, one of the jewels of the floating island of New Zealand.

Despite her years spent observing humans, she still has a lot to learn about their culture and society. She's made a living so far as a thief, her heightened senses allowing her to easily take advantage of people. She's also seen a lot of the worst of what mankind has to offer.

It's only after meeting Juliet, the owner of a small library, and Aspen, an aspiring novelist, that Miho starts to understand what kindness is, and that there's more than just the bad stuff when it comes to people.

Lock and Key: A Magical Girl Mystery

The studio announced that a demo for Lock and Key which it renamed to Lock and Key: A Magical Girl Mystery, will be released soon on Steam and itch.io.

What does it mean to be a magical girl?

This is the question at the heart of Lock and Key, a magical mystery set in a world shaped by your interpretation of the magical girl genre. 

Sherri and Kealey Cohen, now a married couple in their late 20s, left the title of magical girls behind them over a decade ago. Now on the verge of losing their powers and entering a life of true normalcy, a string of unexplainable murders forces them to come out of retirement for one last adventure. Together with Nina, their old friend, and Ruby, a new protege, Sherri and Kealey will have to face a mystery connected both to their past and future. In the world of Lock and Key, the player shapes their path...and more importantly, determines where that path will end.

Summer at the Edge of the Universe

Élan had relatively little to announce about solarpunk game Summer at the Edge of the Universe. The studio clarified that the game was not canceled but that most members of the team for it are busy working on Please Be Happy. They then apologized for announcing the game too early but reassured everyone that they are still very excited about it.

Kinktober 2019 ..... Sort of

All sex. All Spicyhoney.

Because I’m a big masochist and hate myself (read: I love this fandom and Spicyhoney so much it’s a diagnosable problem at this point), I’ve decided to try my hand at a few kinktober prompts in addition to my spooktober drabble challenge. I’m not going to try for all 31 days. I think that would be setting myself up for failure.

All of these chapters will revolve around the same Spicyhoney couple and follow the same general story that’s set up in the first chapter.

As such, the first chapter is introductory. No smut to be seen here, folks, but plenty of suggestions.

Because I’m not doing the whole kinktober thing, I’m not posting the prompts. I do have a list, but I’m picking and choosing the ones I want to use. Because of that, tags will be updated as I choose new kinks to write. Each chapter will also have a header that explains the kink and any warnings so you can skip if it's not your thing.

Edge was never really sure what to expect when he got home from work. Sometimes his fiance would be asleep on the couch, sometimes out in the backyard basking in what was left of the day’s sunshine. Sometimes even he could be found in the kitchen getting something started for dinner that Edge would inevitably have to rescue.

He loved Stretch, he truly did, but that didn’t mean Stretch could cook. He’d been giving his love some lessons and he’d caught on quite well, but he wasn’t ready to master a homemade pot pie yet.

When he got home that day, he could only guess as to what he’d find his love up to.

Stretch was sitting on the couch with strips of paper laying out on the coffee table in front of him, scissors in hand while he cut more strips from what Edge assumed had once been printer paper. In the middle of the coffee table was an empty mason jar with the lid removed and sitting next to it.

“hey, babe!” Stretch called in delight, his face brightening with a gorgeous smile.

Edge smiled back and walked behind the couch, leaning over to steal a kiss. “What’s this?”

“oh, y’know...just something i thought could be fun. i’ll tell you all about it after dinner. what are we having?”

Another kiss. “I’m not sure yet. Let me go change and I’ll see what I can whip up.”

Stretch just nodded and continued cutting strips as Edge walked away.

He kept dinner simple, and after they ate and Stretch helped to clear up the kitchen, they both went back out to the living room.

“okay, so you know how we both like to have sex?” As Stretch spoke, he began separating the strips of paper into two piles.

Edge raised a brow. “Yes?”

“well, i was talking to a friend online today and they had this great idea.” He paused for a second to dig around on the couch, somehow producing two pens. He handed one of them to Edge. “what i want you to do is write down something you like on each strip of paper. it can be things we’ve already done together or things you want to try.”

Edge blinked and stared at the papers in his hand for a moment. “What kinds of things?”

Stretch smiled that same smile he got when Edge was being dense. “sexual things, babe. kinks. all the dirty, raunchy things you can possibly think of that you wanna do to me. write them on the papers.”

Edge felt his cheekbones heat up. There was no reason for him to be embarrassed; Stretch was less likely to be shocked or appalled by anything he could write down than he was to sprout wings and fly away. He was the furthest thing from prudish or modest, and had introduced Edge to many new things throughout their relationship.

And yet...something about this idea was almost overwhelming. He wasn’t sure he could think of anything kinky or sexy that they hadn’t already done.

“babe?”

Stretch’s voice caught his attention and he looked up.

“it doesn’t have to be new or anything like that. just write down things you enjoy. you like it when i suck your cock, right?”

Hell yes. Edge nodded.

“okay, so maybe write down ‘oral’?”

He could do that. He sucked in a breath and wrote the word down on the first strip of paper. Stretch was already halfway through his little stack, and he’d folded each one and set in the mason jar. Edge did the same with his.

“great, now just use your imagination. think of things you like to do.”

“And after this you’re going to let me fuck you, right?” There was no way he’d get through this little exercise without getting hugely turned on.

Stretch grinned. “actually, i was thinking after this we’d shake up the jar and pick an idea to try.”

There was no possible way for Edge to hide how much he liked that idea, so he just nodded and got to work writing down a few ideas.

The more he got into it, the more he let himself fall further into fantasy. He truly loved going down on Stretch, and so he wrote ‘cunnilingus’ to be sure it wasn’t confused with his first paper. He so enjoyed face-fucking his love in the shower, holding his head close as Stretch let him use his throat.

He was proud of himself for coming up with a few ideas that they hadn’t tried yet. They were still things Stretch had talked about, but they were nonetheless exciting. He wanted to see his fiance torn apart by pleasure, begging for an orgasm that Edge kept just out of his reach. He wanted to see Stretch on his knees with his hands tied behind his back, his dick hard with a vibrator strapped to it, wanted to see him fall apart as Edge controlled the strength of the vibrations. Hell, we wanted to see Stretch on his hands and knees in front of Edge, begging him for more as he tugged on the collar around--

His thoughts screeched to a halt, the mental image of Stretch in his collar too much to handle. Edge hadn’t been able to bring it up yet, too worried it would scare his love away. He had all he could want with Stretch as it was, and being on the surface as they were, there was no need to collar him to keep him safe.

And yet, it was an idea that had been there from the very beginning. A little trickle of a thought that reappeared every now and then but was easy enough to shove back down into the depths of his soul where it belonged.

Stretch made an odd noise that sounded something like laughter.

“you okay there, edgelord? you look like you just blue screened yourself.”

Edge cleared his throat. “I thought of something...that I might like to try with you. Someday.”

“write it down then. that’s what this is all about, babe; exploring things we want. and just so ya know, if we pull something that we don’t like or that we’re not ready for, we can always set it aside. we can come back to it later if we want. just because we pick something out of the jar doesn’t mean we have to do it, but even then it’s a great idea to talk about those things.”

Knowing that Stretch wouldn’t feel obligated if he picked out this particular paper, and with a breath for courage, Edge wrote the word on the next strip.

‘Collar.’

Just seeing the word felt taboo. He felt like he should shred it, like letting Stretch see it would harm their relationship. Instead, he folded the paper up and slipped it into the jar. He had to trust that Stretch meant what he said.

“do you wanna write any more down?” Stretch asked, gesturing to the papers remaining in Edge’s hands.

Edge shook his head. “No, I can’t think of anything else.” He noticed Stretch had used all of his papers. “Do you want more?”

“maybe two more?”

Edge nodded and handed him the rest of his papers. He watched as his love hunched over the coffee table to scribble down a few more words, tucking the papers into the jar after each one.

“alright, i’m done.” He put the lid on the jar and reached down under the coffee table to produce a small, square box. “okay, so after we pick one, it’ll go in here so we don’t end up picking the same thing all the time. the idea is to try different things, right? also, when we pick something, we're also gonna flip a coin to see who’s the receiving partner. you’re heads and i’m tails. sound okay?”

He had put a lot of thought into this. Edge couldn’t deny that he was proud of his love for that, and also eager to get started. He nodded again.

“perfect!” he pulled the lid off the box and set it next to the mason jar. “are we ready? any last words? you feelin’ lucky, punk?”

Edge snorted. “Just shake the jar already.”

“okay, okay! keep your pants on, jeez. at least for a few more minutes.” He gave Edge a wink and picked up the jar to shake it up. The papers inside made a shuffling rattle sound. He then took the lid off and held it out to Edge. “you do the honors. let’s find out what we’re getting up to tonight.”

SOMETHING WICKED THIS WAY COMES...

As the clock strikes midnight at the start of October 1st, a peculiar darkness washes over our quiet island. Hidden in every alleyway, ghosts and ghouls are out to play. Pumpkins and bats, broomsticks and witches hats... Are you ready for the fright of your life? 

Branded as Myeongcho’s very first ‘Spooktober’, large home-grown businesses have grouped together to organise a full month of ongoing events for all the black cats that have patiently waited for this fearful time of year. Costumes parties on Shell Beach, ghoulish meals fit only for the bravest of eaters at Aesop’s Tables, scavenger hunts around Pebble Park that force a chill down your spine — and not from the falling temperature — there’s a little something for everyone almost every night of the month, but come October 31st, Myeongcho University will hold the main event, a spooktacular Haunted House. 

Kicking off at 7PM sharp, courageous adventurers will begin in the main building’s reception area in groups of five and make their way through hallways, classrooms and storage closets to discover clues leading them to the exit. Be prepared to use your brain if you can! Each riddle won’t be too easy to solve, especially not with all the ghosts, zombies and clowns roaming the halls for unwilling victims... 

TW DEATH, MURDER, GORE

For the first four hours, the event runs smoothly save for a couple particularly spooked challengers escorted out by first aiders. It’ll be a long night for the performance art students helping scare and guide groups, but it’ll be a longer night for Bae Chaewon, daughter of Professor Bae of Natural Sciences. She’s at home in bed, but her father is hanging from a science classroom in the Health and Science building, the second stop on the haunted route. He’s upside down, gutted like a fish, a particularly graphic but realistic decoration until one of his students wanders through and recognises the mole just above his left eyebrow and trademark spotted bow tie. In minutes, the campus is overrun with MPD officers, but the show must go on. The question is... Why? Or better yet, who? 

WELCOME TO MI’S SECOND EVENT, MI:SPOOKTOBER !

IC, this overarching event takes place onward from Friday, October 3rd, 2019. The haunted house event starts on October 31st and lasts for four nights. The body is found on the first day. The event continues with a slight reroute of the path through the 'house’. 

OOC, the event lasts until midnight at the end of Friday, November 15th, 2019, though you’re welcome to continue threads beyond this date if you wish.

MU’s Haunted House opens at 6:30PM, letting the first group in at 7PM after a short briefing in-character on the concept of the quest by a staff member dressed as a ghost. Groups will be sent in every 15 minutes. This gives the group before them chance to move far enough through the university that the next group shouldn’t catch up to them. The full route takes approximately an hour and a half. The experience costs a mere ₩75,000 for the whole group — a mere ₩12,500 per person! 

Clearly by the time at which the body was reported, multiple groups moved past it before one realised it was real due to the dim lighting and otherwise realistic costumes. The MPD were promptly called and groups rerouted to continue the house missing the classroom in question. It’s likely your muse saw the body without realising — or maybe they did and didn’t say anything... — before it was blocked off. 

Entrants must be 18 or over. Or have a really good fake ID. Up to you. 

The last group will be allowed in at 2:30AM, the experience closing at 4AM. 

As of yet, no one knows who murdered the Professor, but look out over the next month in other events for clues! Here’s your first: it’s most certainly a gang affair. Theories, anyone? 

To earn +3 points, write a four-post thread or 200+ word solo about your muse attending the Haunted House event at Myeongcho University. Group members can be NPCs but we encourage you to take this opportunity to write with new people, as groups can be formed by staff at the entrance if any are short of the full 5 required members!

"Hey! You alive in here?" Tim calls as he enters Jason's safehouse, carefully balancing a shopping bag of 'goodies' on his hip and ducking low to avoid snagging his backpack on the frame as he steps through the window.

A bedraggled head sticks out of the bathroom doorway at half the height one would expect. "Tim? You shouldn't be here," Jason croaks, hauling himself to his feet with the support of the door frame. He looks awful, face pale, cheeks flushed, and dark circles under his eyes. It's only been a day and a half since his symptoms appeared, including copious vomiting, but he already looks gaunt and hollowed out.

Tim ignores him, continues on into the little kitchen, and begins unloading his supplies onto the counter. He's brought an arsenal of medical supplies: anti-nausea meds, antibiotics, fluids and electrolytes - both IV and oral - various disease test kits, portable diagnostic equipment, as well as broths and soups sent straight from Alfred along with saltine crackers, sports drinks, ginger teas, and ginger ale for when Jason’s appetite comes back. He loads the soup containers, drinks and antibiotics into the fridge, keeping his back turned even as he hears Jason shuffle into the kitchen.

"Let me rephrase that: you can't be here. I'm sick. I've got a fever and chills and I've been hurling my guts out of both ends all night and all day. It isn't safe for you," Jason tells him, hovering at the edge of the kitchen like he wants to step forward and shake Tim by the shoulders but knows he shouldn't.

Tim turns and closes the distance between them in two quick steps, raising a thermometer to Jason's temple while laying the back of his hand across his forehead. Jason startles a second too late.

"T-Tim! What are you doing?! Get away!" He tries to back up, but bumps into the wrap-around counter, knees buckling. Tim grips his forearm firmly to bolster him and follows diligently, holding the thermometer steady until he hears a beep.

"One hundred point nine," Tim reads off, nodding sagely. "That's not too bad. Overall, how are you feeling? Have you been able to keep down any fluids in the past twelve hours?" he asks as he pinches the skin of Jason's forearm to perform the skin elasticity test for gauging dehydration. "Mmm, from that I'm going to say 'no' or 'not enough', huh?"

Jason swats away his hand wildly then leans back over the counter away from the other hand Tim lifts undeterred to pull down Jason's lower eyelid in order to gauge the sunkenness of his eyes.

"Wha-wha-what are you doing?" Jason pants, eyes wild. "You can't be here, I have the flu; you can't touch me, I'm going to get you sick!"

Tim shakes his head, but takes a step back, making soothing motions with his hands. "It's fine, Jason, I made sure to--"

"It's not f-f-fine!" Jason hisses, teeth chattering with a full body shiver. "You could die, Spleen-less Wonder!"

Tim raises his eyebrows. "If you would stop running away from me for five minutes, or stop to answer my calls then you’d--"

"I w-was ru-ru-running to protect you!"

Five minutes after his first episode of vomiting, Jason had run out of Tim's apartment like the building was on fire, and then proceeded to lead Tim on a very bizarre game of tag through five separate safehouses over the past day and a half. Tim had been half convinced their wild chase would end with him finding Jason passed out in the street, or on some rooftop, between one place and the next. He still wasn’t sure if he wanted to laugh or cry or tear his hair out over the whole thing. Probably all of the above.

"I th-th-thought you'd given up by now!"

No, he hadn’t given up, but Tim also hadn't wanted to find Jason passed out in the street somewhere, so he had given Jason space and watched from a distance while he gathered evidence and ran tests.

He reaches into his back pocket, unfolds a Batcomputer print-out and shoves it into Jason's face. Jason frowns as he leans in to read the fine print.

"These are the results of comprehensive pathogen testing on a sample of stool and a sample of the foods we consumed the other night," Tim explains to him. "The tests are conclusive: you have food poisoning, not the flu. The food you ate and your stool both test positive for salmonella."

Jason blinks and his eyes dart to Tim with a flash of worry. "But... but you're okay? You didn't eat any of the contaminated foods?"

Tim smiles warmly at Jason for his concern and shakes his head. "No. Alfred and I are pretty sure it was contained to the sausage on your pizza. We didn't find salmonella in anything else and I didn't eat any of yours, only my own."

"Oh, thank fuck," Jason sighs in relief, sagging back into the counter. "Wait," he freezes, pinning Tim with an odd look, "Did you say stool? How the hell did you get a sample of my shit! When?!"

Tim snorts. "I mean, you did leave an incredible wake of contamination in your path as you fled from place to place." Jason glares and Tim shrugs. "You, uh, forgot to flush the toilet at your second stop. I collected it there."

Jason narrows his eyes. "Even if this is food poisoning, you still have to be careful collecting food samples, touching me, touching my shit--literal and figurative... Jeez, if you get a salmonella infection, that could fuck you up for the long term, Babybird."

Tim nods. "I know. I brought gloves, disinfectant, and plenty of hand soap. I plan to be careful. Alfred will never let me hear the end of it if I'm not."

Jason doesn't look happy about it, but he nods his acceptance, trembling as another chill wracks his body with violent shivers. Tim's brow crinkles in concern. He turns to scoop up some of his supplies then steers Jason toward the couch with a light touch on his elbow.

"Why don't you go get settled on the couch while I prep some fluids for you. I'm guessing you haven't been holding much down--or in--for more than a few minutes at a time?"

"Try not at all," Jason croaks as he subconsciously pulls his elbow away and shuffles to the couch on his own.

Tim grimaces in sympathy. "The diarrhea hasn't let up either?"

"Nope."

"Has there been any blood in your stool?"

Jason makes a face. "No," he gasps, gagging slightly. "Ugh. Can you grab me a bucket or something while you're at it?"

"On it."

Tim brings Jason his sick pail, then proceeds to take more vitals and pulls a blood sample to send along to Alfred. Jason suffers through it with as much grace as he can summon between breaks to gag and retch into his bucket.

"The last thing we need is for the infection to get into your blood, so I brought antibiotics along just in case," Tim tells him.

"The last thing we need is for the infection to get into your blood!" Jason shoots back hoarsely as he comes up from another round of vomiting.

"Don't worry, besides taking sanitary precautions, Alfred started me on a course of preventative antibiotics, just in case I did ingest contaminated material and haven't begun showing symptoms," Tim reassures as he begins prepping Jason’s forearm for the IV.

"Wha-what if you get sick? What am I supposed to do then?"

"Alfred will be by shortly to pick up the blood sample and check up on us, and if at any point I start to show symptoms, you or I are supposed to call Leslie immediately. The alternative is for you to return with me to the Manor." Tim wrinkles his nose to say what he thinks of that alternative.

"Nope. Here s-sounds g-g-good," Jason replies, teeth still chattering. Tim finishes inserting the catheter, starts up the fluids, tapes and then wraps the IV site.

"Okay, that should be good to go for a while. We'll know in a few hours if you'll need the IV antibiotics. For now…" he trails off, taking in the small, nearly empty safehouse and then the shivering form of one miserable Jason Todd. "How about we cuddle up on the couch and binge some Netflix?"

"I don't have a TV."

Tim smirks. "Do you think I go anywhere without my laptop and an unlimited 4G data plan?"

He sets up his laptop on a tray table in front of the couch and retrieves several clean blankets from the hall closet. He drapes two of the blankets across Jason's shoulders, which he accepts with a murmur of appreciation, then seats himself beside Jason and spreads another across their laps. He cuddles up to Jason and attempts to wrap an arm around him, his shorter stature be damned.

"Wh-wh-what are you doing?" Jason stutters, leaning away with a comically alarmed expression.

"You've got the chills, so I brought you some blankets and I’m snuggling you?”

"No, why are you practically on top of me! What if I throw up on you?" Jason wails, attempting to push away. Tim pulls him close and hands him the sick pail.

"You're a crack shot, Jay, so I trust that you won't miss at point blank," he teases.

Jason glares balefully, but gives up trying to pull free. "You're still gonna get sick…" he grumbles.

"I doubt it, but if that's a risk I have to take to snuggle you, then I'll take it."

Jason sags into him and grumbles under his breath.

"What was that?"

"I said you're an idiot with a d-d-death wish," Jason growls between shivers.

Tim chuckles and squeezes his shoulder. "Whoa, there, Jay, I think you need to chill out."

"Tim."
