#new design gown 2017

Do you think there's a problem with period pieces and media set in "medievalesque" settings putting characters in clothing that has a stronger resemblance to prom dresses and ball gowns than anything from the medieval or premodern period?
I've sent a similar ask to Oldshrewsburyian where I brought up that fashion for women in Westeros exposes far more skin than in the real middle ages. I said that in comparison to fanart which depicts the characters in historically accurate costumes, the clothing as described in ASOIAF feels "cheap" which in hindsight I regret. I didnt mean to say that its wrong for women to dress revealingly, but I wanted to express my feeling that historically accurate clothing fits the "medieval fantasy" look more, and I was influenced by bad costuming in general that make the female characters wear modern-looking dresses.
Real fashions during the late medieval and renaissance looks more aesthetically pleasing to me because they are a lot more elaborate with embroidery and multiple layers. In contrast, the costuming in movies such as Maleficent and 2017 BATB puts Aurora and Belle in rather disappointingly undetailed gowns.
I dont read ASOIAF and admittedly the book often describes very elaborate garments, but Ive read posts on tumblr discussing Cersei's wardrobe and they imply that her dress is just one layer with a slit down the side like a modern dress.
I mean...I don't really care because it's a fantasy world. Westerosi fashion can be whatever the designers want it to be; it's not Earth history.
Does it visually appeal to me as much as real medieval fashion would? Some of it, yes, and some, no. I AM capable of thinking non-historical dresses are pretty, believe it or not. To be honest, based on what little I've seen of the show (before I noped out due to the near-constant sexual assault or threats thereof, to female characters), I was just impressed that the fashion logic was internally consistent. Different regions have different trends based on their aesthetics, climate, available materials, etc.; the styles change when someone new comes into power or an existing ruler changes their look. It WORKS like real fashion, so that makes more of an impression on me than what it actually looks like.
Now, if it was actually claiming to be our history a la Reign, I'd have a bit more frothing at the mouth in response.

The Style Evolution of JT: From Federal Prison to City Cinderella ✨
3 minute read
As one half of the rap duo the City Girls, rapper JT’s fashion was not a main talking point in her career. Now, as an emerging solo artist, JT arguably has some of the best fashion in the entire music industry. From working with brands such as Poster Girl and Mowalola, it’s clear that JT is the perfect fashion icon for the girls that get it.
At the beginning of her career, (2017 ish) JT wore almost exclusively designer brands, reminiscent of someone who just came into a large sum of money. She was dripped out in Dolce and Gabbana, Chrome Hearts, and Moschino - all brands popular for their very large price tags. But as the old saying goes: Just because you have money, doesn’t mean you can dress. To be clear, JT had money AND was into fashion before starting her rap career (she stated in an interview she was able to buy herself a Classic Chanel bag before the fame). In my opinion, her industry connections after she signed to record label Quality Control helped her focus not so much on wearing expensive clothes. Instead, seasoned stylists and designers helped her craft her own unique aesthetic, while focusing on pieces that accentuate her silhouette and new tax bracket.
JT pictured with fellow City Girl Yung Miami (left)
JT made her daring new style debut at the 2023 MTV VMA’s, sporting a pink, Mirror Palais ss24 gown and matching Marc Jacobs boots. This look (one of my favorites) was a turning point in her fashion career. It showed that she was more in tune with the fashion world. By wearing a lesser known designer, her affinity for big label brand flashiness was over. Now, I viewed her as a true fashion girlie, by sourcing and styling runway and archival pieces. Her unique style, which incorporates the “coquette” aesthetic, features latex pieces, corsets, platforms shoes, choker necklaces, and dainty bows. It is a style distinct to her, and not many could pull it off without looking crazy.
JT is on her way to becoming a fashion icon. Her outfits are always daring, meticulous, and true to her, which is the most important thing in fashion. She often collaborates with female designers and doesn’t care if you like what she’s wearing or not. In an iconic line from her song No Barz, she brags about being a “Hood bitch dressed like a weirdo”, to which I must agree. JT is a “weirdo” in the best way possible. Her unique fashion sense and dedication to it is refreshing and inspiring for girls that look like her and myself. JT is currently doing a club run tour in the United States, while steadily building a strong, supportive fan base. I am very excited to see all the iconic looks to come in this new era of her career!

No doubt "DIOR Contract" was at the top of the 2017 RMM- DIANA 2.0 vision board & megxit manifesto. In other words: Sparry's 'honey do' for MeMe list: Meet Beyonce (on yellow carpet)✔ Disney (princess) gig✔. oh to be a fly on a Cali wall after that Dior ANNOUNCEMENT: guttural moans & tears for weeks! 😬

I'll buy that Jill Smoller (formerly Gina) badgered Dior on behalf of MEgain, but no way would Dior sully their brand with the toxic, mentally unstable, over seas royals who can't be bothered to iron 🙄
"Oh & I took FRENCH for 8 years in high school or was it 4 years?" 😉

The Sun: What is the history between Dior and the royal family?
December 12, 2023 || Born in 1905, Christian Dior, the fashion designer, climbed the ranks of several Parisian fashion houses before establishing his own establishment in 1946.
One of the early royal admirers of the designer was Princess Margaret, the sister of Queen Elizabeth II.
She became a client of the fashion house and one of Dior's most famous designs, the "Margaret Dress," was named after her.
Queen Elizabeth II also shared a close connection with Dior.
She appointed Doir to design her Coronation gown for the crowning ceremony in 1953.
The gown, famously called the "Hartnell Dress," was a collaboration between Dior and British couturier Sir Norman Hartnell.
Over the years, various royal family members have continued to wear Dior creations for public appearances.
Dior dressed Prince Harry for King Charles' coronation in May 2023 - as the royal forwent wearing a military uniform.
Shortly after the coronation ceremony, Dior took to its social media to reveal Kim Jones was the designer behind the suit.
"Tailoring fit for royalty. Dior is honoured to have dressed Prince Harry, Duke of Sussex, for the coronation of King Charles III in a custom design by Kim Jones," the brand wrote on Instagram.
"Seen arriving at Westminster Abbey, gain an insight into the savoir-faire of his three-piece suit next," it added.
Why was it speculated that Meghan Markle would have a deal with Dior?
In June 2023, it was reported that Meghan was in talks about taking on adeal with Dior.
Following the cancellation of her Spotify podcast after just one season, there was widespread speculation that the Duchess of Sussex was poised for a new role with the French fashion house.
Meghan has worn Dior several times throughout her time as a working royal, including at the late Queen Elizabeth's funeral in September 2022.
However, sources close to the Royals said no contract had been inked.
Dior also expressed its surprise and confusion when the idea of a deal was initially brought up.
A source told the Telegraph: "The Duchess of Sussex is not in talks to sign a deal with Dior.
"There is no truth to the claims that she will partner with the French fashion house,"
A Dior insider said its team was "nonplussed as to how the story came about".
Who became 'the Duchess of Dior' in 2023?
Meghan lost out on the opportunity of a lucrative Dior job to a Kate Middleton actress.
It was revealed in November 2023, that Meg Bellamy, 21, who plays a young Kate Middleton in season six of the hit royal drama The Crown is to be the new face of Dior.
An insider told The Daily Mail: "They have been queuing up for Meg, she is playing the most famous woman in the world in a globally famous television drama, so many labels and brands want some of that.
"She is a total unknown, but she is being treated like Kate, an A-list princess."
What deals and contracts does Meghan Markle have?
After leaving the royal family and their royal duties, Prince Harry and Meghan vowed to become financially independent.
It was reported that the couple would support themselves through Prince Harry's $10 million inheritance from his mother, Princess Diana.
With the world eager to know their story, lucrative million-dollar deals started rolling in from AppleTV, Netflix, and Spotify.
The couple signed a deal with Netflix through their production company, Archewell Productions, with a hefty payment of $100 million for multiple projects.
They have since released one documentary, Harry and Meghan.
Their upcoming documentary series titled, Heart of Invictus, is in the works.
While their third documentary is to be shot in South Africa, the Sussexes are also planning to delve into the rom-com genre with the streaming giant
In June 2023, the couple made headlines when it was reported that their 25-million-dollar deal with Spotify had ended.
According to Rolling Stone, the couple would pay back a portion of their deal money and look for another company to produce podcasts with.
In a joint statement, they said: "Spotify and Archewell Audio have mutually agreed to part ways and are proud of the series we made together."
Royal biographer Tom Bower believes that the couple's "joint ventures are falling apart" and that Meghan is finding it difficult to sell her brand.
"They're beginning to taste the medicine that they handed out after the Oprah interview and they're finding it very very hard to keep their brand reputable," Bower told new magazine.
"They're constantly having to defend themselves and grasping at opportunities that don't exist anymore."

2007 & 2008 Lover Diaries Transcripts
Apr 8, 2007- Nashville, TN -> Los Angeles, CA
I’m on the plane on the way to L.A. because we’re playing the opening day for the Dodgers tomorrow. Yeah. It’s Easter. I packed for LA and we (mom + I) went to the airport. At the gate, I got recognized by all these girls on a softball team, and this couple whose daughters love my cd … It happens everywhere I got now – at lunch it happened 5 times. So I signed the teams autographs and took pictures. Then they asked me to play a song (not thinking I’d say yes), so Emily, Grant, Ben, and I pulled out our instruments and played ‘Our Song’ and 'Teardrops On My Guitar’ right there in the airport terminal. Ha. It was fun. Now we’re just sitting here on the plane … Doing nothing. It’s exactly a week til the CMT Music Awards, and I am SO nervous.
Dec 30, 2007- Nashville, TN
I apologize for not writing in so long. A lot has happened... Let's see, Christmas. It was great... Austin and Andrea had their minds set on drying the turkey this year, so the day before Christmas eve, my friend and I went to WalMart to buy a turkey fryer. Apparently no one in the store knew where a turkey fryer would be located. So, one hour and 50 million "Will you sign this"'s later, we had a turkey fryer, which we found in the garden section. Of all paces. Frying the turkey was a cute idea. I give mom credit for being creative. They had their little rig set up in the back yard and the 70 barrels of oil... it was great. When it actually came to making edible food, that's where the whole thing fell apart. The turkey actually melted in the turkey fryer. It was disgusting. We had a vegetarian Christmas dinner. Present exchanging was cool. I painted my dad 2 paintings for his office, and mom cried like a baby when we played The Best Day DVD I made for her. I got an iphone from my parents, and I'm so obsessed with it, it's not even funny. It's my soulmate.
May 11, 2008- New York City, NY
Hey … This past week has been amazing and CRAZY! I’ve been in New York City doing all kinds of fashion stuff. I got invited to this event called ‘The Met Gala,’ which is THE party of the year, put on by Vogue. Each designer picks a celebrity to wear one of their new dresses from their new line, and I was picked/invited by Badgley Mischka, this AMAZING team of designers. I’ve loved their dresses for so long, and was SO excited when I got word that I was picked by them. The red carpet for the gala was held on the stone steps up to the Metropolitan Museum of Art. There was a tent over it, and paparazzi on each side of the stairs. When we got out, the paps started SCREAMING for me. It was crazy. We made our way up the red carpet, posing for everyone. All of the women looked so glamorous in their gowns. We got to the top of the stairs and waited in a long line to greet the hosts of the evening: Anna Wintour of Vogue, George Clooney, Julia Roberts, and Giorgio Armani. Along the sides of the long carpet we were on, models stood as decoration, standing still and wearing gorgeous gowns. Then we went into the cocktail area. I saw every celebrity ever created. Scarlett Johansson, Gisele, Tom Brady, Beyonce, Jon Bon Jovi (who called me over to talk to him), Victoria Beckham, Tom Cruise and Katie Holmes, EVERYONE.

The Couture Bridal Fantasy
On her wedding day, it is every bride's dream to feel the most beautiful that she has ever felt in her lifetime. And sometimes, to feel like your most beautiful self, one has to step outside of the conventional and into the fantastical. Dropped waists and "angelic silhouettes" were identified by Brides magazine as trends spotted during the New York Bridal Fashion week this year, harkening back to the ideas of the historical and the fantastic. Three couture bridal companies: Cinq, Danielle Frankel, and Nicole + Felicia, are exploring the collaboration of the historical and the fantastic with their breathtaking and groundbreaking Spring 2025 Bridal Collections, displayed earlier this month at New York Bridal Fashion Week.
The first image is from Nicole + Felicia's Spring 2025 collection, which has the overarching theme "Wonderland" to encompass the wonder and magic of a bride's wedding day, while also making a callback to the "Alice in Wonderland" book series, about a young girl who enters a world of absurd fantasy. Nicole + Felecia, a sister-owned brand, is most well-known for making couture gowns for celebrities, including ballgowns for Taylor Swift's "Eras" tour and red carpet looks for Jennifer Lopez and Janelle Monáe, though they have been designing bridal collections since 2018. This look, labeled simply as "Look 4" features a dramatic ballgown silhouette and detachable leg-of-mutton sleeves. These details invoke the past while also creating a sense of modernity alongside the fantastical with the ultra-deep v neckline, creating balance and yes, wonder.
Danielle Frankel's bridal wear has exploded in popularity since opening launching her brand in 2017, being worn by celebrities such as Julia Garner, Alexandria Daddario and AnnaSophia Robb. According to a Vouge Australia article from October 2022, the brand has become the "go-to for cool girl brides" and the "Cora" look pictured above exudes the "cool girl" aesthetic, with a "draped soft tulle bodice with swagged sleeve and hand painted floral illusion tulle overlay" the modern and the fantastical are balanced here in an unexpected and exciting way, a treat for the bride who wants to indulge in the fantastical and unconventional. There is something Grecian about many of Frankel's looks, and the "Cora" is no exception, with the column-esque silhouette and intentional draping reflecting a respect for fashion history while also playing around with modern elements. The exposed midriff and pants that this look comes with push the boundaries of what bridal wear can be.
Cinq's fourth collection (stylized as IV) had a truly breathtaking presentation at New York Bridal Fashion Week, inviting guests into an intimate dinner party setting for their fashion show, and allowing them to indulge in the fantasy of their new collection. From the home page of their website, the brand identifies their philosophy: "For centuries human beings have taken part in rituals, marriage being one of the most sacred and coveted. Cinq was created for the bride that connects on an emotional level to her gown, it’s not just the dress .. it’s a precious, fleeting moment in time.. it’s the feeling when she’s wearing it.. it’s the moment of reflection. The Cinq bride emanates a unique progressive nostalgia combining vintage silhouettes with modern details. Dressed in a garment that stands as an ode to the past poised for the future - detailed to cast a moment into memory, for her."
Overall, it's clear from these stunning looks that the modern couture bride wants to indulge in her fantasies when shopping for her dress. However, be warned, these looks will cost the bride (or whoever is paying for the dress) a pretty penny. "Cora" retails for just under 6 thousand (one of the less pricey Danielle Frankel gowns), with Nicole + Felicia and Cinq gowns coming in at around similar price points. However, these are prices that many brides are willing to pay in order to get to live out their own personal fantasies on the day of their wedding, a day that is often regarded in our collective mindset as a day that should be full of magic, romance, and whimsy, all of which can be elevated by the "perfect" dress choice.

Tftoml Character Design pt 1
@cjbolan @cinnamondunce
Here are the much awaited designs of the Philip sisters, this is what they’ll wear in acts 2-3. Note, I don’t think I’m good at the Disney art style, so I tried using my own. Now here are a few facts about the sisters.
Morgan Elaine Philip
- I did not like how she was animated in the sequel since the animation was done with cheap animation like Space Jam a New Legacy AND James Baxter didn’t animate for Disenchanted. That’s why I tried to make her look more like the first actress, because I like Rachel Covey’s curly hair and dimples.
-Morgan is wearing a leather jacket, navy blue, cargo pants and brown boots. The yellow shirt underneath paired with her pants, symbolizes the Aroace flag and her sexuality in my fic. She gets the purple cloak in Act 2 and it symbolizes the Asexual flag.
-This takes place in a universe where Morgan doesn’t make the memory tree, since to me it felt like a poorly built up macguffin. She does have a special sketchbook she uses to draw and write in.
Sofie Diana Philip
-She does share most of Robert’s traits and those ended up being stronger in Giselle’s when I finish the flashbacks and Act 1. She used to have blue eyes but they became brown after infancy and it’s from Robert’s lineage. Imagine her being portrayed by Lexi Rabe, if this came out in 2017.
-Her dress is a nod to the gown Flora and Meriweather ruined in Sleeping Beauty and to show how asymmetry is important in character design. Her shoes match Morgan’s cloak and they’re a nod to when I owned a similar pair of light up shoes as a kid.
-Sofie’s personality is a fusion of Giselle and Robert’s traits and you’ll see in chapter 2 why she’s called Sofie in tftoml.
Lastly, The relationship dynamic and 10 year difference between the sisters for my fic, Morgan (16) & Sofie (6) was unintentionally inspired by Elena and Isabel Flores from Elena of Avalor. A really good Disney show that did the sister dynamic AND Coronation so much better than Frozen. Also both sisters are closer with Robert than with Giselle and it will be shown in Act 1.
I drew these in honor of Disenchanted, Frozen 2, and Wish airing on the same day. I’m really hard at work with writing Chs 2-3 on paper but I hope you like my art!

The Afterparty - Season 2 (2023) Review
(IN SOUTHERN ACCENT) "Sir, there has been a murdah, and you are a suspect." Michael Scott from The Office would fit so well into one of these murder mysteries, I tell ya.
Plot: When Zoe's sister's wedding weekend is destroyed by a murder, Aniq calls his old friend, Danner, to investigate the crime. The two proceed to interview the suspects, each telling their story in the style of a different movie genre.
Once again, there has been another murder, and yet again Hercule Poirot is busy elsewhere in Venice dealing with death and ghosts apparently, so we are left in the capable hands of the Haddish to discover the murderer. It's another whodunnit, and ever since Rian Johnson reignited the excitement of the genre in 2019's Knives Out, I've been eagerly anticipating these murders. I sound like a psycho stating I'm excited about murders, so I must emphasize I mean fictional ones. Then again, what if I'm not and have now become the prime suspect in my own murder mystery! Regardless, The Afterparty returns for a second season to Apple TV+, and though at first I expected only Tiffany Haddish's detective to transition from the first outing in the style of a Holmes or Miss Marple, we actually also see the return of Sam Richardson's Aniq and Zoë Chao Zoe as the charming yet awkward couple, and Richardson especially stood out last time with his comedic timing so was lovely to see him return.
Otherwise, it's a whole new fresh set of characters and suspects, and look, if there's one thing murder mysteries these days are good at, it's getting flashy actors to be in them. The entire roster is great here, from the disarmingly charming John Cho who's truly blossomed into a wondrous flower compared to his days smoking the greens and traveling to White Castle with his friend Kumar; to Anna Konkle as a socially awkward quirky sister of the groom; to Ken Jeong being surprisingly delightful and adorable and the loving father of the bride, and very different to Jeong's more madder unhinged performances in Community and The Hangover movies; to Paul Walter Hauser as the ex-boyfriend who by the way is absolutely hysterical in this, especially with the physical comedy, but those who recall seeing Hauser in 2017's I, Tonya as he inept doofus of a bodyguard should not be surprised by this. It's a great cast and was fun watching all of them. My good friend though has made it super clear to me that he has a vengeful hatred for Jack Whitehall, and as such as I enjoyed the weekly new episode releases of The Afterparty, I also had the pleasure of receiving by message weekly dosages of my friend's commentary which primarily involved comments such as "I do worry that Jack Whitehall will ruin it" and "is Jack Whitehall shit in every scene he's in??" to "Jack Whitehall is not a handsome guy" and also "I think I just hate Jack Whitehall" and finally "I think Jack Whitehall might be one of the only people I hate". All I'm saying is that if Jack Whitehall gets murdered out of the blue, we know who our No 1 suspect would be.
The second season also dials up a notch its concept of mind movies, in which each suspect tells their story using a certain unique movie genre. On top of playing with elements like cinematography, music, and sound, The Afterparty Season 2 also immerses us further in each character's mindset with more exaggerated costuming, hair and makeup, and production design choices. Season 1's characters wore the same costumes in every mind movie, and the sets and props remained constant as well. Here, they switch depending on whose point of view we're watching. An especially hilarious film noir episode dresses characters in sleek suits and fedoras, while the Jane Austen episode sees characters exchanging lavish, handwritten letters while wearing elaborate gowns. Elsewhere, an inspired Wes Anderson-themed installment takes painstaking efforts to evoke the filmmaker's signature style across the board. Additionally, we also get some campy horror and 80s soap opera parts in there too.
As for who was the murderer this season? No spoilers, but I'd say it was a good choice, however, the show had plenty of red herrings thrown in throughout they really could have gone for any one of the suspects and it would have made sense. Feel like they could have maybe thrown an extra clue in there to guide us more specifically to the truth, but maybe I am just sore cause I did not guess the killer. I'm usually really good at predicting this stuff, so this is a damper on my own ego.
I really enjoyed this season of The Afterparty, and though I believe it suffered from a bit of a slow start in the beginning, it became a very delightful weekly load of entertainment, that is also really funny. Also, they revamped Haddish's detective with more layers this time around and she gets another backstory episode this season that added an extra load of flair and panache to her character which I believe lacked the previous season. As it stands, very much looking forward to a potential third season, and seeing where else Phil Lord and Chris Miller will take this funky humouristic little murder mystery next, as in a market that is now really saturated with the whodunnit genre, The Afterparty still manages to stand out with its own distinct flavour.
Overall score: 7/10

Indie Promotion Round Up - Edition 1 Part 1 - NWA Powerrr
Throughout the years, wrestling has had its peaks and inclines. While you may have Stone Cold Steve Austin, The Rock and D-Generation X tearing it up in WWE, you may also have your Kennel from Hell, Gerald Briscoe vs Pat Patterson evening gown match or Trish Stratus being force to bark like a dog.
2019 was no exception. I personally think it was a pretty great year to be a wrestling fan, from Kofimania in the WWE, NXT getting favourable reviews, and the inception of AEW. Sure, they weren’t without their hitches – Kofi’s title run ending in him getting squashed by Brock Lesnar or AEW’s growing pains, but I think it marked the start of something great with what would happen in the following years.
But let’s not get ahead of ourselves. I’m not here to talk about WWE or AEW. I’m no even here to talk about NJPW or IMPACT. No, I’m talking about some of the lesser known promotions – namely MLW and NWA.
Both revitalised themselves in 2017, giving the American wrestling scene a few other shows to keep an eye on as they progressed. MLW was a previously short lived promotion that emerged in 2002 as a spiritual successor to ECW, down to having Joey Styles on commentary and featuring the likes of The Sandman, Raven, Sabu and other notable names, while the NWA is a long living promotion who’s history is a bit confusing, but basically, it once had the most prestigious title in all of wrestling, but has since fallen in prestige somewhat. Oh yeah, also, Billy Corgan from the Smashing Pumpkins bought it.
These two companies would have their ups and downs, from NWA featuring talent such as Thunder Rosa, Eddie Kingston and Ricky Starks before they moved onto AEW while MLW had names like Darby Allin, MJF and the Lucha Bros. But where are they now? I’ve heard rumblings about both companies, but never found the time to sit down to watch them and see just what they’re all about. Well, that’s abou to change. Join me as I explore just what is happening in MLW and NWA after the fallout of their (as of writing) most recent PPVs.
I guess I may as well start off with the elephant in the room and have a glimpse at the NWA. They’re coming fresh off their “Hard Times” PPV, where, most notably, they put the world title on Tyrus. Tyrus, for those of you who do not know, is a man who was known for his time in WWE as “The Funkasaurus” Brodus Clay. He was a man who danced and… was a dinosaur. I guess. It’s not as cool as it sounds, trust me. In that role, he was never really relevant, nor was he world champion material – let alone now, 8 years after his “prime”, if you even want to call it that.
He also is a raunch conservative, constantly showing up on Fox News and has a sexual assault allegation against him. So, y’know. Great champion material. Anyways, the NWA has 2 main shows, both streaming on youtube. NWA Powerrr, which is their main show, and NWA USA, which focuses on the junior heavyweights. I think for this series(?) I’ll look at an episode of Powerrr, an episode of MLW Fusion (MLW’s main, and only, show, also youtube exclusive) and an episode of NWA USA.
So, without further ado, let’s dive into NWA Powerrr, season 11, episode 1.
---
We’re live from the Sigur Center in Chalmette, Lousiana. Kyle Davis – huh? Is this guy the fused form of Aussie Open? Anyways, he’s an official at NWA, and our host. He welcomes us and brings Tyrus down to the ring. Tyrus himself is from Lousiana so I guess they also wanted him to be a hometown hero.
As he makes his way to the ring, there are some jester masks and such – because it’s Lousiana! I don’t know if this is part of the arena or the NWA themselves designed this but it helps the arena stand out.
We hear from one of our commentators – the commentary team is Joe Galli, Velvet Sky and Tim Storm. Joe informs us this is the start of the “Idolmania Sports Management era”. Well, ok, there’s something I didn’t know. Wrestling legend Austin Idol leads a faction that Tyrus is apart of. I’m guessing they’re the top heel group? Strictly Business was last time I was watching, but Nick Aldis left the NWA, so I guess this is their replacement.
Joe also mentions the Revolution Rumble, which I’m guessing is just the name of this slew of episodes, but also Powerrr Trip? Haven’t heard of it. At this point I glanced at the likes and dislikes and realised they were even, 1.5k a piece. Anyhow, Velvet Sky lets us know Idolmania has all the gold, which made me look it up. As of this episode, two other members of Idolmania held gold – Cyon with the National Championship (which is one of the midcard belts) and Jordan Clearwater with the Television Championship (the other midcard belt). I don’t know why there are 2 midcard belts.
I guess I’ll start a rant. People rant about how AEW or WWE has too many titles, but they serve a purpose. Sure, I’m not a fan of AEW having multiple midcard belts, but at least the ROH are for ROH whenever that relaunches, and the All Atlantic title has a vaguely international theme to it. But the NWA has a world title, two midcard belts, two tag team belts, two cruiserweight belts, women’s belt and women’s tag belts. For a company with a roster as small as the NWA, that’s too many damn belts.
Anyway, rant over. One of these guys is wearing a Ric Flair esque robe, another is a luchador. They don’t look like they fit together. Realizing I’m going to have to listen to a Tyrus promo, I now regret my decision to start this series.
Austin Idol sounds old as fuck and curses out Kyle Davis. He also refers to the Ric Flair looking guy as “the golden boy with the golden toy”. There’s a free innuendo for you. Kyle won me over by saying “I’m glad you found the hard cam” as Austin spins around to face said hard cam as he yells.
The group does a bit of a promo, not a lot to say but Tyrus calls out possible challengers. Matt Cardona, EC3, Thom Latimer. Apparently Cyon and Jordan Clearwater can cash in for the world title at any time? Sounds a bit broken, but ok.
I won’t lie, I wasn’t as bad as I was expecting, but Powerrr only runs for about 40 minutes a week, so luckily they had time constraints as to not overstay their welcome.
--
We cut to the intro. NWA Powerrr used to have Into the Fire by Dokken as a theme – which actually got me to watch the Nightmare on Elm Street series and got me into horror movies. But now it’s a generic insrumental guitar song. Alright.
Anyways, time for the first match. Mims is here. He’s apparently the number 1 contender for the television title. He has an alright look, I hope he can back it up in the ring. Oh, he’s challenging for the Television Title right now. Alright. Well, it’s Jordan Clearwater, the Flair wannabe who stayed in the ring from the first segment, vs Mims. Maybe Mims can show us why he’s hot.
Joe Galli informs us there’s a 6:05 minute time limit for this match, as there is for all TV title matches? I have no idea if this is founded in history or they just picked a random time limit, but it’s a weird number anyways.
Clearwater is a chickenly heel and tries to run from Mims and stalls for time. Mims pushes him over, though. Clearwater gets back up, does some taunts, and threatens to leave, but Mims takes him by the hair and headbutts him.
Mims charges at Clearwater in the corner but gets a poke to the eye and hits him with… ok, I’m a wrestling fan, I’m not a commentator. I don’t know all the moves, but commentary doesn’t call it, so I’ll just say he slams him.
Clearwater takes control briefly, but Mims gets some hits on Clearwater – though that doesn’t last long as Clearwater takes control again and goes for a pin, but Mims kicks out at 1. Clearwater taunts the crowd to cheer for Mims.
He then whips Mims into the corner. Mims gets some more hits on Clearwater. Clearwater hits Mims with a suplex for a two count. He whips Mims again, but Mims goes for a sunset flip and hits it. Clothesline to Mims, however, for another two count.
Clearwater than gets a headlock on Mims, but Mims fights out. Mims hits a clothesline and back elbow combo and goes off the ropes but gets a big boot from Clearwater. Clearwater goes for the pin, but the time limit runs out.
This counts as a victory for Clearwater and is the 1st of 7 wins which will allow him to cash in the title to challenge for the world title. Ok, so Tyrus didn’t say the rules clearly. Anyways, I thought Mims might get a rematch – and hey, he might – but because of that 7 wins rule, I get the feeling they’re gonna want to move on.
It wasn’t a particularly great showing for either man, though I’ll chalk that up to the time limit. It made the match and having to structure it quite awkward, so we’re left with them trying to work a longer match in a short amount of time, so it doesn’t feel complete. I didn’t really get a feel for Mims as a wrestler and all I gleamed from Clearwater is he’s a coward. Hopefully they have better showings in the future.
--
There’s an ad for Austin Idol’s wrestling school. Then we’re back to the ring, a match with a 15 minute time limit. Alright, that’s more sensible. Anyways, here’s Ryan Davidson vs Odinson. Ryan looks a bit generic and is apparently from the Wildcat promotion, which they hype up, but I’ve never heard of it, so. His opponent, Odinson, I guess has a Norse mythology gimmick. He looks the part, at least. The chains look a bit out of place, but hey, it stands out.
Joe says he sprayed “the purpose” into his mouth – so I’m guessing he does some kind of green mist variation too? (Hi. This is editor skelltan. Coming back to this, I just realized this is never once relevant in this match.) Ryan here is apparently the longest reigning Wildcat champ, over 900 days. Let’s see how he does, then.
The two lock up. Odinson takes him to the corner, but Ryan fights out and pummels Odinson in the corner. He whips him to the other corner, and spins around – he looks a bit lost, as if he was expecting Odinson to run back and get hit with a back elbow? But continues running, getting hit with a big boot and clothesline. Odin hits an uppercut and sliding lariat on him for a cover and two count.
He lands a knee on Ryan, and two uppercuts in the corner before walking him around the ring for more uppercuts. He charges at Ryan in the corner twice, going for a spear but Ryan dodges. Ryan goes for the Manhattan drop and a scoop slam. He his the ropes and lands an elbow for a one count. Ryan gets Odinson in the corner and atacks him. He then gestures to the crowd, getting them to cheer and continues the attack on Odinson.
Odinson hits Ryan with a forearm and they jockey for position, hitting a DDT (at least according to Velvey Sky) that focuses on Odinson’s arm. Ryan continues working the left arm with a submission. The crowd gets behind Odinson to power out and hit a dropkick. Odinson then sells the arm a bit.
Odinson charges at Ryan in the corner, gets him to the other corner and charges again. He then goes for a torture rack but can’t hold it – Odinson then goes for a big boot and uppercut for a 2. Odinson goes back to the torture rack, but again can’t quite get it – Ryan hits him with a power slam for a 2 count. Ryan takes off an elbow pad and tries to go for something, but Odinson hits him with the pounce for the win.
Ryan looked a little awkward as I alluded to, but Odinson looked pretty good in my eyes. Obviously I’m not saying he’s anywhere near his level, but in terms of in ring style he reminded me a bit of Claudio Castignoli, what with the power moves and uppercuts. There was actually psychology in this match and the pace was much better than the opener and both men got some stuff in. Again, don’t get me wrong, this isn’t a match of the year by any definition, but better than the opener and not that bad.
--
We then go backstage, where May Valentine interviews a man who’ll be in the main event – Aron Stevens. Like Tyrus, Aron Stevens is a castoff from the 2010s WWE midcard. He was known as Damien Sandow and was a henchman for The Miz and had an impersonation gimmick. I only got into wrestling in 2019, so I never got a chance to see him, but people actually thought he was funny in his impersonator role and thought he had potential – he also held the tag titles once and the Money in the Bank, though he failed to cash it in against John Cena.
Anyways, here’s Aron Stevens. Apparently he’s retired and May Valentine is his girlfriend. I don’t know if this is a work or he’s seriously stepping down from in ring action. He’s a little hammy and mildly entertaining. He’s no Eddie Kingston, but I’ve seen far worse promos.
We get another ad this time for the NWA merch shop.
Aron makes his entrance, but cuts a promo, again stating he’s retired and is a manager now, but is still gonna do this match. Apparently he has to or he’ll lose his manager license? He didn’t get that over in the promos, but alright.
Kratos is announced as “the most swagged”? He looks like a poor man’s Luke Gallows, which isn’t a good look. He’s also got garishly bright Hulk Hogan-esque red and yellow gear. He looks terrible. Commentary alludes to a story – Aron Stevens is friends with a masked wrestler called The Question Mark who’s identity is well known. I think I read Aron played one of them but there was another not played by him and the two fought? I dunno.
Anyways, Kyle says “due to the controversy of the black glove” that Aron Stevens is wearing, he must take off his glove or he’ll be disqualified. Very odd phrasing, but anyways, he takes something out of the glove and into his pockets. Underneath, he has another glove – a rubber one. Aron calls for a time out, though, and claims to not have a professional wrestling license, so he can’t wrestle, and says because he’s a manager, Kratos will be fined, suspended and gone.
Aron then beats down Kratos and then says his wrestler’s license is still valid. Kratos hits Aron with a big knee, though. He rolls Aron out of the ring and atacks him, and continues the atack in the ring. He tries to rip off Aron’s shirt. Kratos hits a release suplex. Some masked guys hit Kratos, and that’s the match.
I wasn’t looking forward to seeing Kratos work, but I didn’t get a chance to, so for all I know he’s alright. But yeah, in terms of in ring action and as our main event, that wasn’t great. But it served for an angle, anyways, so let’s hope it’s a good angle.
The Question Mark 2 comes to the ring – this is the one that faced Aron who was the other Question Mark, I guess, but he gets beat up. Aron puts his glove back on and puts something in the glove – I’m guessing something metal, and punches Kratos. The crew then beat up Question Mark 2 and pose.
So, that’s our first episode of NWA Powerrr in the bag. It wasn’t terrible, but if not for this series/my morbid curiosity, I wouldn’t go out of my way to watch this. We still have to wait for a payoff for the main event angle, and Idolmania were whatever, but Odinson was alright, so I wouldn’t mind seeing more of him. Otherwise, I don’t have much positive to say, other than it wasn’t terrible.

Cagayan De Oro Business Interview: 2nd Part insider views and insights from Local Entrepreneurs
Welcome to our new blog series, where we dive into the business landscape of Cagayan de Oro City.
Straightforward
They started their business in October 2022, focusing on selling bags. Their main competitors are Penshoppe and Bench, but what makes them stand out is their focus on aesthetic designs. Their typical customers are teachers and professionals. To attract more buyers, they frequently offer sales and promotions.
One of their biggest challenges is that sometimes their customers are not happy with the products or are looking for items they don’t have. In short, meeting customer satisfaction can be difficult. Their sales usually peak during the "Ber" months (September to December).
Their business goal is to keep customers happy with their products by offering promotions, which have become their main marketing strategy. They measure the success of these promos based on how much their sales increase.
They handle employee feedback carefully, having open discussions about what works and what doesn't, aiming to keep their staff satisfied. They also keep up with industry trends by adding popular or trending designs to their products, especially K-pop-inspired ones, as these are currently in demand.
For them, customer satisfaction is their biggest achievement, and they believe that focusing on how customers feel helps build strong, loyal relationships. Their manager advises others in similar businesses to prioritize customer feelings to gain loyalty.
Karimadon
They opened their branch around the same time SM Downtown started operations. They sell formal dresses like gowns for graduations, weddings, and other events. Their main competitor is still Apartment 8, but they stand out by offering unique designs created by their in-house designers, along with high-quality products. Their typical customers are people attending special events, and they keep them coming back through good communication.
One of their biggest challenges is handling customer complaints, but they approach these issues calmly and professionally, always aiming to resolve them. Sales usually go up during the "ber" months. Their main goal is to keep customers happy with their products. They promote their business by joining sales events, especially when SM has store-wide promotions.
For day-to-day operations, they use the DOS system. When hiring new staff, they make sure employees are familiar with the products and know what to recommend to customers. Customer issues are handled directly in-store. They stay on trend with the latest styles and colors. One of their biggest achievements is becoming a top seller. They advise others in the same industry to build strong relationships with customers because that’s what keeps the business going.
Photoline
They opened their branch in 2015 and provide printing services, camera products, and frames. Their main competitor is Camera House. What makes their printing services stand out is the use of high-quality paper.
Most of their regular customers are photographers. One of the biggest challenges they face is low sales on certain days, especially when foot traffic is slow. Their business usually picks up during the "Ber" months (September to December). In December, they made 2 million pesos in sales.
Currently, their goal is to increase monthly sales. To do this, they use online marketing, posting family photos on social media platforms like Facebook to boost engagement and attract new customers. For daily operations, they rely on machines, cameras, and their customer base. When it comes to handling customer feedback, they address it with patience. The way they resolve issues varies; camera-related problems are handled differently than issues with frames or photo quality. To stay relevant, they use social media to keep up with trends and improve customer engagement.
Mags
They opened in May 2017 and mainly sell blouses, dresses, and shoes. Their primary customers are from Apartment 8. What makes them stand out is their lower prices. Most of their regulars are fashion enthusiasts. They attract customers by providing personalized assistance in-store.
Their biggest challenge is dealing with slower days when foot traffic and sales are low, though their sales usually pick up during the "Ber" months. Their goal is to consistently hit their sales quota, and they do so by offering promotions.
They also have systems in place for handling customer issues. Their biggest achievement so far is being the top-performing branch in terms of reaching sales quotas, especially in December.
Noregold
Their branch opened in May 2017 and they sell jewelry. What sets them apart is their lower prices compared to other stores. Most of their regular customers are from the middle class, and their sales have been growing every year.
They say their biggest accomplishment is increasing sales, which is also their main goal. They keep track of sales with manual accounting. When training new employees, they make sure each one learns about all the products so they can easily help customers. To stay current, they update and modernize their jewelry designs regularly.

Five sustainable fashion designers to throw your support behind
If you spend your hard-earned cash on designer fashion, you want it to benefit the planet. What does it mean for a fashion brand to be sustainable? What are sustainable fashion designers? A label must consider many aspects, such as the materials it uses, labor practices, and how it contributes to the circular economy. Unfortunately, the nature of fashion means that “true sustainability currently remains an out-of-reach goal for the entire industry,” says Lexy Silverstein, a sustainable fashion advocate, educator, and author. “The reality is that we haven't reached a point where we can completely eliminate waste or emissions in the fashion industry.” However, some brands champion sustainability more than others, “paving the way for a more eco-conscious future”, adds Silverstein. Here are five brands that are making significant progress towards true sustainability. The Sustainable Fashion Designer List 1. Collina Strada View this post on Instagram A post shared by Collina Strada (@collinastrada) Founded by American designer Hillary Taymour, fashion brand Collina Strada is one of the most exciting shows on the New York Fashion Week calendar – not least because the models are a joyful celebration of diversity but also because of the label’s commitment to sustainability. International creative consultant Amanda Jane Valentine particularly likes Collina Strada’s use of ‘rose silk, which she describes as “an organic cellulose fiber made from rose bushes and stems” that is both “eco-friendly and biodegradable.” Collina Strada’s designs are edgy, with a punk-like sensibility—think tartan shorts with tulle on top or a butterfly-print gown with a daring cut-out revealing a silver bra underneath, as Zendaya wore last year. Rose silk isn’t the only way the brand champions sustainability: Valentine explains how it also uses deadstock materials (“saving fabric from landfill”) and recycled cotton (which “addresses the depletion of water resources”). 2. Stella McCartney View this post on Instagram A post shared by Stella McCartney (@stellamccartney) “Stella McCartney isn't just a fashion designer; she's a trailblazer in the world of sustainable style,” says Silverstein. “Back in 2001, when eco-conscious fashion was still a niche, she decided to do things differently. Instead of using leather and fur like many luxury brands, McCartney opted for innovative vegan materials. She's not just making clothes; she's making a statement about cruelty-free fashion.” Valentine says the brand is pushing boundaries with its materials, including “the first-ever regenerative cotton luxury garments using SOKTAS fibers, which debuted at the summer 2023 runway show” and Savian, “the first 100% plant-based, plastic-free fur alternative.” Silverstein adds that McCartney’s “commitment to sustainability goes beyond just materials”, explaining: “Take organic cotton, for example. It's not just about being eco-friendly; it's about supporting farmers in developing countries who rely on cotton as their livelihood.” McCartney is also passionate about the circular economy. Silverstein says: “Instead of buying into the fast fashion frenzy filling up landfills with clothes, McCartney wants you to cherish your pieces for years. “That's why she offers repair services, encouraging you to breathe new life into your favorite garments instead of tossing them aside. It's not just about reducing waste; it's about redefining our relationship with fashion.” 3. Chopova Lowena View this post on Instagram A post shared by Chopova Lowena (@chopovalowena) Valentine calls London-based Chopova Lowena a “favorite new brand in the high fashion world” and “a creative force that prioritizes sustainability from its conception in 2017”. It’s the work of Bulgarian-American Emma Chopova and British Laura Lowena, which focuses on deadstock materials, recycling fabrics, and traditional craft techniques. “Their iconic pleated carabiner skirts are made from deadstock textiles, along with other pieces in their collections,” says Valentine. “They also integrate a holistic perspective of sustainability by employing skilled female artisans in Bulgaria who are passionate about preserving heritage techniques.” 4. Eileen Fisher View this post on Instagram A post shared by EILEEN FISHER (@eileenfisherny) American fashion designer Eileen Fisher founded her eponymous brand in 1984, making a name “a beacon of sustainability and ethics in an industry often marred by environmental concerns and labor issues,” Silverstein says. The label has stood the test of time – “not just because of the brands’ elegant designs, but because of its unwavering commitment to doing good,” Silverstein adds. Materials used are “carefully chosen for their lower environmental impact”, ranging from organic cotton to TENCEL Lyocell – a semi-synthetic fiber made from wood pulp. “And let's talk about Eileen Fisher's ambitious goals to achieve carbon neutrality and reduce waste,” Silverstein says. “It's not just about ticking boxes; it's about taking real action to mitigate their environmental impact. In a world where the fashion industry is responsible for a significant portion of global carbon emissions, Eileen Fisher is leading the charge towards a more sustainable future.” 5. Gabriela Hearst View this post on Instagram A post shared by Gabriela Hearst (@gabrielahearst) Uruguayan designer Gabriela Hearst made a name for herself as the creative director of French brand Chloe. Still, she explores her passion for sustainability at her eponymous fashion label. She’s focused on minimizing waste, has enforced a no-plastic policy, and explores sustainable materials and production methods – while keeping the fashion chic. “Transparency is another cornerstone of Gabriela Hearst's ethos. She also walks the walk by ensuring that every step of her supply chain is ethical and environmentally responsible,” explains Silverstein. “From fair labor practices to environmental stewardship, Hearst works closely with her suppliers to build long-term partnerships based on trust and accountability.” Read the full article
