Luna/Neville, Marriage of convenience

“It’s not so bad, getting married to me, is it?” Luna asked, her eyebrows raised quizzically.  And Neville knew he could safely give her an honest answer.  He’d have told her if it was a bother.  Or a chore.  

But the truth of the thing was, he couldn’t think of anyone else he’d rather be “shackled” to for the rest of his days.  She understood him.  She was kind.  And most importantly, he enjoyed her company.  

It was true, they didn’t love each other yet.  But they could.  He could.

“No, it’s not.  Not at all, Luna,” he answered, reaching over to squeeze her hand.

2. Talk about three of the most important ships throughout your life.Listen my dude my nickname in high school was Admiral of the Spanish Armada because I had so many dang ships. So this is gonna be tricky.

• Neville and Luna. First off I wrote my college essay about Luna. Love her. But also I think this was the first time I shipped something where they didn’t get together in the end. Or even imply that they’d get together later. It was my introduction to “ah. So this is what it’s like to ignore what the author said.”• Monica and Chandler. I was a friends kid. My dad taped the finale for me because I wasn’t allowed to stay up that late and news anchors talked about what happened the next morning and spoiled it for me and I’m still a little bitter. My uncle got me the whole series on DVD for Christmas one year and I actually screamed. Monica and Chandler were probably the main reason I am such trash for friends to in love. I also just appreciate the hell out of the fact they secret dated so that no one would interfere. I’m all about that. I could have a secret gf right now and no one would know (I don’t I’m very single please send someone my way). Plus as someone who has had commitment issues from a very young age, seeing Chandler slowly work on himself and become happy with Monica just fills my heart • Lizzie and Darcy from LBD. They got me into Jane Austen more, they got me into the enemies to friends to in love trope. Plus having a ship that has a million adaptations is so great you guys. There’s so many AUs. All I need now is an adaptation where they fake date for a bit and then I’ll actually die. Also side note, LBD is perfect and made me realize exactly how much I am like Lizzie Bennet and see some of my flaws. Also made me like my name for the first time in my life. Please watch it.

11. Talk about your favorite first kiss. Listen I saw your ask and I was like psh anon you don’t know me you don’t know all my ships. But then I saw the question and like. Yeah. Cmon. There’s a lot of great first kiss scenes but this is one of the best ever. I feel like if Harry and Ginny had gotten the first kiss in the movies like it was written, like they deserved, that’d be a close contender. But yeah cmon. That Nick and Jess kiss. You can tell he had no idea she was going to kiss him back. And he was so happy.

15. Albus Dumbledore Even leaving his mentoring Harry out of it, he had a strange, jolly peculiarity to him. You never quite knew what was going on in his head. I liked that. Sorta like a wizardy Gene Wilder’s Willy Wonka.

(Also, Richard Harris is best Dumbledore. =_=)

14. Sirius Black I liked his fun loving attitude. He had the sort of personality that told Harry, “Just because bad things have happened, and just because bad things are happening, it doesn’t mean you have to stop being a kid.” I appreciated that.

13. Remus Lupin He was so sweet and so tragic. He was sorta the kind and quiet uncle that would babysit the fun, drunk uncle (Sirius) until he sobered up. If we called Sirius Harry’s fun, I’d say we’d call Remus Harry’s morality. (Dumbledore was Harry’s wisdom, and Severus--who sadly did not make this list--was his cold, calculating logic, the one who had to step back and look at the facts, no matter how cruel they may be.)

12. Bellatrix Lestrange Bitch was batshit crazy, and I loved it! And Helena Bonham Carter played her PERFECTLY.

11. Mad-Eye Moody Come on. How can that crazy scary man not make this list? He was way too much fun to both read and watch that I had to put him on here.

10. Nymphadora Tonks Ummm, first of all. Hufflepuff. Automatically awesome. Second of all, she was absolutely BADASS. The fact that she and Remus ended up together was both surprising and sweet. They were an odd pair, but they worked well off each other. God, I love her.

9. Minerva McGonagall I almost forgot about her. She was the last one I put on this list, but I absolutely could not leave her off. No way. She was AWESOME!! She was like my eighth grade Texas history teacher (who kinda looked like her, now that I think about it): she was strict as a prison schedule, but I’d gladly take a bullet for the woman.

8. Rubeus Hagrid UMM AGAIN HOW COULD I NOT!!! If Sirius is Harry’s fun, Remus his morality, Severus his logic, and Albus his wisdom, then Hagrid was far and away his heart. And what a big ole heart he has!

7. Ron Weasley I know! Surprising one of the Golden Trio made it so far down on the list, right? Well, as much as I love Ron--and how much I think Rupert Grint was BORN to play the role--he was kinda overshadowed by a few others.

6. Ginny Weasley LIKE HIS BABY SISTER!!! Poor Bonnie Wright had absolutely NOTHING to work with in those damn movies. Ginny could have and should have been so much more than she ended up being. She was figuratively castrated into falling into the Sexy Lamp trope. Still, my memories of Badass Ginny Weasley shall never fade.

5. Neville Longbottom Not only did Matthew Lewis get SUPER HOT during the last few movies, but the character as a whole just grew into this amazing human being. Few would have thought that the quivering, pudge-faced Gryffindor who was always losing his toad would end up playing such an important role in stopping arguably the most evil wizard of all time, not to mention leading the rebellion of students at the Battle of Hogwarts!! Trophy for most improved character over the course of a series goes to this guy right here.

4. Harry Potter Another surprise, no? Not just a Golden Trio member, but the MAIN FREAKING CHARACTER is only number four? Well, again, while he is a compelling character, and we get to watch him grow and become comfortable with who he is, there were just a few characters who overtook him in the emotional attachment department.

3. Dobby Yep. This one hurt. SPOILER: Dobby’s death was the first time I ever cried reading a book, and it’s only happened twice since then. I still remember it to this day. I was twelve, I’d stayed up past my bedtime to read some more of my favorite book series. I literally cried myself to sleep that night.

2. Hermione Granger Yet another formerly favorite character that sunk to the second spot. When I first saw the movies, first read the (first four) books, I was damn sure I was gonna be just like Hermione when I grew up. We both were bookworms, we were both made fun of for being bookworms and actually LIKING school, we both had wavy, kinda messy hair. I thought it was a sign. I was destined to be the Hermione Granger of my town.

Don’t get me wrong. I still absolutely ADORE the character, and I love Emma Watson as an actress. It’s another case where my love for the character hasn’t dimmed. It’s just been outshone.

Before we get to my number one, here are a few honorable mentions:

Severus Snape I wouldn’t say I’m a Snape hater nor a Snape apologist. He did some really shitty things to a bunch of children. C’mon, dude. You’re an adult. They’re children. You’re being a bit of a bully.

But on the other hand, he does have a tragic backstory, one that makes it perfectly understandable why he would grow up so bitter. It doesn’t make it right, but it does put things into perspective. And, in the end, he does redeem himself. Hell, throughout the series, he actually did a number of things I’d consider at least partially redemption-worthy.

He was bitter, but he wasn’t a monster.

Gilderoy Lockhart That man was so flashy and charismatic, even though you knew he was kind of a piece of shit, things were never dull when he showed up.

Fred & George Weasley They’re both still alive. They both still run the joke shop. SHUT UP AND LET ME LIVE IN MY DENIAL!!!

Okay. Now. Finally we get to

1. Luna Lovegood I had caught up to the book series by this point, so when Luna was first introduced, it was still new. No one quite knew what to make of her, in- or out-of-universe. But something inside me always admired how unashamed she was of her weirdness. She knew exactly what the other students thought of her, but she didn’t care. She didn’t feel the need to conform to an image because she was her own person. She liked what she liked, and she wasn’t going to apologize for that. My admiration for those traits only strengthened as I got older, and found myself under the microscope of scrutiny for my own interests. She took over being my favorite character when I got into high school and I realized just how hard it is to be so proud of being weird. I wanna be Luna Lovegood when I grow up.

(Also Nevilluna will always be canon in my heart. >3

Harry and Hermione?

I’m really indecisive I’m learning from this lol

I have a couple favorite HP characters but I’ll say one for this.

Luna Lovegood is generally my front runner on my list of favorites because she is an oddball and I was always that weird kid in my friends and school. I just relate to her deeply in some ways haha!

One my fave ships is actually a ship with Luna in it and that would be Luna and Neville (Luneville? Nevilluna?). Everyone I’ve seen says they don’t get this one but think about it, Neville always struggled to fit in with the Gryffindors and Luna always struggled to fit in with the Ravenclaws. I can see Neville bumping into Luna while she’s petting one of the thestrals and he’s upset because he just will never fit in. And Luna just kinda looks at thos scrawny thestral and looks back to Neville and notices a kinship. She turns to Neville and just smiles a dreamy little smile and whispers to him, “The best ones are the ones that break the mold.” And they just have this beautiful friendship that developes into something more after the battle of Hogwarts. I could just see Neville taking down Nagini and suddenly all the courage that had been sleeping in him finally roars to life and he just goes straight to Luna and says, “I’ve always loved the ones that break the mold.” Then gives her this big tender but passionate kiss and yeah xD

Actually yes ! I began shipping Jimogen because of the small fandom and a girl made a good fanfic, and then more fanfic happened and then it became my otp and it’s been a magical ride !

I’m not sure! I guess a general scene is those cheesy fighting in the rain scenes, but even then like ahhh that’s so!!! It’s only good in moderation?? IDK !!!

Luna awoke that morning with her arms still around him.  He was still, but she didn’t know if he was awake or asleep, she wasn’t awake enough to tell the difference.  She was still in that blissful space between awake and dreaming.  

For all she knew, Neville could be a dream.  And if he was, she was content to keep dreaming him.  

“Good morning…” he whispered, his lips tickling her throat.  

She smiled.  “Indeed it is.”
