Some doodle of Pluto and Duke,

My headcanon is that whenever Duke sees Pluto lost in a book, he plans to pull some prank on him but in the end always finds that scene too cute to ruin.

But honestly I don't think it's possible to sneak up on Pluto, due to his upbringing poor thing probably can sense that someone is approaching

So Pluto knows Duke is there and is about to start rambling about whatever he's reading about now, being completely sure that Duke came because he's also interested in a book.

I was thinking of Duke's trust issues at a time.

It is going to hurt big time when he finds out about Lenore and Annabel. Not because they will hurt him, but because he has no way of knowing for sure that they won't.

When he was banging that glass, screaming for help, his colleague asked the audience to clap even louder as he died. Dying like that...it's scary. It leaves a scar. And the fact that his fear already happened with Annabel trapping him behind that wall.

Things will get messy. 💀

I love the progress the acoleetes are making in their relationship in the last chapters: Ada risks her life for Annabel, Prospero says bluntly that his conscience does not allow him to leave Montresor alone, Prospero rushes to Ada's aid without a moment's hesitation. It's great, I'm really glad to see them like this. But I'm worried that in contrast misfits` relationship might regress.

They already had two bones of contention last season: the escape plan and the conflict between Lenore and Duke, which they never solved properly. In fact, I think Duke is now strongly reconsidering his friendship with Lenore. In the last chapters of the first season, he behaved strangely. The scene where they discuss Lenore's curse on the balcony, and she gives him the letter... is pretty creepy. The atmosphere is extremely tense, and the last time Duke and Lenore were on the balcony together, he literally tried to kill her wife. And this frame.

The threshold splits them exactly in the middle. I don't like it, I really don't like it.

When they discuss her escape plan, Duke stays silent until the last moment, until Lenore asks him directly, and even then he hesitates at first, he doesn't answer her right away, although in the end he expresses absolute support.

But why? Duke was Lenore's most active supporter in the first half of the season, always easily accepting her reckless antics and taking part in it himself. He liked their role as rebellious troublemakers. However, now his enthusiasm has noticeably dried up. He's changed now. He's doubtful.

I think this may be due to the fact that he recalled his death. It was hardly an accident. Apparently, it was staged by his... stage companion, I suppose. Duke was killed by someone he probably trusted, with whom he had played a lot of shows. He was betrayed. And now, quite predictably, he may have trust issues. Especially after the failed assassination attempt, when Duke realized that his methods could be very different from Lenore`s and she was not exactly the kind of leader who shared his values.

By the way, yes, let's talk about leadership among the misfits. Do you remember this scene?

The misfits are waiting for Lenore's opinion on their hideout, her voice is decisive, and although she does not understand why, she accept the assigned role of leader.

Now let's take a look here. Does that ring a bell?

Now Duke's opinion becomes decisive. They're all waiting for him to say something. Including Lenore. Of course, they were always equal for her, and the role of leader was only a formality, but from the point of view of the story composition, this is a noticeable shift in dynamics, and I'm worried about what it will lead to.

I'm not saying that Duke will go up against Lenore, but it would definitely be interesting. It would break my heart, but I would take a look. Because let's be honest: Lenore trusts these people more than she should in a survival game. She's known them for less than a week. Her tendency to see the best in people and give them a chance just has to play a cruel joke with her sooner or later, especially under the circumstances.

If the acoleetes are really starting to get closer, then the misfits, on the contrary, are dangerously close to split. That would be a curious inversion.

i love duke so much i need to dissect him like?? HE'S SO MUCH MORE IRRITABLE NOW?? he's always been pretty distrusting and hostile to strangers (see: him when he first met pluto, as he didn't know what to make of him — unlike with lenore, where he got to see her in action before talking to her which made him more comfortable approaching her), but he got mad at eulalie fast, and we've seen him losing his trust in lenore (at least, that's what it looks like). someone else said this i'm pretty sure, but it probably has to do with his death.

from what i could tell, his assistant sabotaged him. that smile as the curtains closed in front of duke, duke's horror. it also explains a lot about his character.

i'm pretty sure even without remembering one's life or death, you still maintain traits you had because of them. pluto's quiet footsteps, eulalie's fear of being abandoned, and, of course, duke's mistrust. i don't think duke would be so mistrusting if he didn't have more than one bad experience in life, though i think his death made him particularly paranoid about people he considers his friends.

he's distancing himself from the group, too. he doesn't walk with them, he walks ahead of them. he doesn't give his opinion about the escape plan, instead he just watches. he's treating his friends how he treats strangers — with hostility, like with eulalie whom he berates and insults the same way he did when he first met pluto.

So as a resident thinker and Tumblrite, I've been seeing a lot of posts/essays of what ppl think will happen from here on out and I have my own thoughts that are pretty different from what I've been seeing around lately

I've seen a lot of posts saying that the groups are going to get messed up at some point, which I do agree with, but I disagree with the part that the Clusterfucks (the objectively funnier name for Annabel's group) are going to get closer together and the Misfits are going to break up (and here's why:)

In the story, it's clear that the current arc is meant to muddy the waters between the "good" (the Misfits) and the "evil" (the Clusterfucks). Previously in the story, the Misfits have been shown as a loyal group willing to stick their necks out for eachother for no other reason than the bond they share while the clusterfucks have been shown to be a lot less willing to help their own. This, combined with Monty being a conniving little bastard, has painted them as the evil of the story with the Misfits being the good of the story.

But, in this arc, it's almost been like a role reversal. Annabel and Prospero both went back to help Ada (someone they both have no reason to help/like other than "she's one of our own") while the most chalant nonchalant guy to ever exist (monty) saved AND EVEN COMFORTED Will for no other reason other than gayness loyalty. Meanwhile, the Misfits got split up and they, in all their perceived goodness, left Will to die as he begged for someone, anyone to help him.

Now, don't get me wrong, this isn't a hate on the Misfits post, since I still love them with all my heart, but it's just to point out the role reversal. The Misfits are no longer fully good and the Clusterfucks are no longer fully evil.

Now, I can see how this could lead to the conclusion that I disagree with, but I would like all of y'all to stay with me for a moment as I explain how it won't tear the groups apart entirely, but instead combine them.

First off, both leaders of each group (Lenore and Annabel) have now been shown to have similar motives and/or ideals. Annabel specifically, as she now has been shown to care about both Ada and (to an extent/less confirmed) Prospero. She could have left them to die but instead SACRIFICED THE RING SHE GOT FROM LENORE to save them all. You can't honestly look me in the eyes and tell me that's someone who's just gonna leave her group to rot in exchange for her wifey who has been shown to be willing to leave her if she can't bring her friends along.

Second of all, no one group has the moral high ground now. Both groups are veryyyy morally grey now with all the stuff mentioned previously. The Misfits can't claim to be morally better because yes, they did leave Will to die, and the Clusterfucks can't be condemned as absolute villains because when push came to shove they defended their own.

Third of all, let's just talk about it from a plot standpoint real quick. I can not forsee an ending where the entire main cast (minus the inevitable casualties) doesn't get redemption. I could be wrong, but it'd be a very unfulfilling end if they (Annabel and Lenore, our beloved mcs) just left one of the main cast back at Nevermore to rot and die while they skipped off into new life. We know and are supposed to care ENTIRELY too much about these characters for that to be the case. (also, side note, the groups gotta combine at least to a point cause Annabel and Lenore ain't gonna get together if they never interact)

So, yes, I believe that the groups are gonna combine for both general plot reasons and for the simple fact that this arc is proving that they aren't so different after all. I'm not saying this will happen immediately, don't get me wrong, but I do think that end game will 100% be one big group fucking off into new life while I CRY when any of them die 😭😭

Nevermore Pool day headcanons!!

- Pluto wears a swim shirt

- in fact, he tries to avoid getting in the water as much as possible. the most he’ll do is dip his feet (until duke pushes him in)

- Annabel tries for like 10 minutes to keep her hair dry with a very intricate updo but someone splashes her so quick. - likely splash culprits: any of the misfits minus morella, monty - will puts on sunscreen and lays in a chair, falls asleep, and nobody wakes him because he is just so forgettable. he burns. - + slight chance morella catches him and applies sunscreen on him while he's half awake. she's a ginger, she burns too easy and is very careful with being in the sun - morella wears a super cute hat so her scalp doesnt burn - duke and berenice yank each other under by the ankle when the other least expects it - eulalie can hold her breath for a scarily long time. nobody has beaten her record yet. - montresor is too rough. chicken fights are banned because he would take down the other team and nearly drown them - prospero reads under the umbrella the entire time, only gets in if he can lounge on one of those long floaties and not get touched - montresor innocently pushes him around the pool and flips him over without warning - lenore likes to float around on her back, her ears in the water. just listening to the muffled voices. - ada wants to tan so badly. she never succeeds. - ada wears a really intricate bathing suit that keeps loosening so she has to keep asking morella to retie it - pluto gets too used to the water temp and doesnt want to get out because the air is colder than the pool - after will wakes up completely sun burnt montresor purposely touches him more to watch him wince. he finds it funny - ada says she too has a sun burn so montresor can pay attention to her too - prospero does not take off his gloves. not even to apply any sun screen, so he looks like an idiot later when he takes them off and their slightly lighter than the rest of him - lenore blows underwater kisses at annabel - every time someone goes down the slide will is too close to the vicinity and either gets splashed or hit by a body - duke dramatically pretends to faint in the water too frequently. its expected.

The leaders

The right-hand men (the closest to the leaders, the ones they trust the most, but also roomates with the opposite team's henchmen)

The henchmen (their inner-desires push them to actively participate in the group, they are initiators, therefore close to the leaders as well)

The facilitators (their longing for companionship and love make them doubt, they oscillate between the two groups, therefore they can be used to appease tensions. They're also roomates with the leaders)

The followers (to work, a group needs people who will follow the leaders for the leaders' sake only. This is also where Lenore and Annabel strategies' differences are the most visible. Annabel only accepts people with powerful spectres, while Lenore accepts anyone who wants to join them. This might result in Lenore's group being larger in number, but with weaker spectres, whereas Annabel will be undernumbered, but more powerful. Or maybe new people are going to join her group soon?)
