not gonna lie, this conversation is almost a masterclass on how to do this correctly. she explicitly says that her child's happiness is more important than the family business and reputation. all she wants from him is to live a life that will make him happy, even if it doesn't fit with what she imagined his life would be like. she does something, which many parents fail at, which is telling him that he is an adult who now makes his own decisions and whose first thought shouldn't be what his mother wants, that he needs to centre what he wants in his life. she says that she is ok with anything and anyone he likes and that she is proud of him no matter what. really, my only minor complaint is her saying that she is disappointed in herself because he didn't feel like he could tell her, because it briefly centres the conversation around her, but even there i'm already being nitpicky, just because everything else is so 🤌 11/10.

From Palm and Neung to PalmNeung (Spoilers for Ep 7)

I want to compare the kissing scene from Ep 5 to Ep 7 real quick, bc there’s something so important hidden in those scenes, in the difference between them.

Starting with Ep 5. Palm tells us that he’s doing his duty (or so he’s convincing himself and Neung) by kissing him to make Neung feel better.

Palm‘s certainly putting his all but he’s still guarded. Neung is wary, and Palm keeps his distance. He remembers not to touch Neung any more than required.

This kiss was the absolute bare essential and nothing more. No hands. Strangely enough, kissing is not as intimate as touching, not for these two at least.

And then we have Ep 7. Neung has just asked Palm to be his boyfriend, and obviously the poor lad is trying to process it. He asks what he needs to do, and Neung asks to be kissed ‘properly’, and Palm is only too happy to oblige. You’d think that’s Palm’s reply to Neung, right?

WRONG.

It’s the continuation of that same conversation, and it’s Palm asking his own questions.

Palm had to kiss Neung bc Neung asked him to, and there’s nothing he wouldn’t do for him. He’s still kissing with the same passion and fervor, but notice something?

He’s still not touching him!

This kiss was Palm asking Neung in his own way, in response to Neung’s original question, ‘Can I? Can I really? Am I allowed?’

Neung replies by bridging the gap between them, doing what they couldn’t do the first time because they didn’t know what they wanted then.

He touches Palm.

It’s just a small hand to the shoulder, but it’s all the answer he needs. ‘Of course you can. You’re allowed to touch me, to have me, to be with me.’

And now Palm knows. He knows that he and Neung are on the same page again, that they both have feelings for each other, that his feelings for Neung and acting on them won’t hurt Neung, that in this moment beyond master and employed there allowed to just be with each other as two people.

This kiss was his answer to Neung’s first question. The burning touch of Palm’s hand to Neung. The sight of Palm finally taking something he wants just for himself, and gripping onto it so that he never lets go.

‘Will you be my boyfriend?’ What could be more clear? Palm crossing his own boundary back, meeting Neung in the middle, and touching him. A loud, resounding Yes.

i want to talk about ben's reaction at the principal's office

first off, i want to say that i don't excuse or justify his actions. what he did towards nueng was shitty and nueng has the right to feel upset at his actions.

ben was wrong for what he did but i understand him and this is why:

from what we saw, his father is homophobic. he showed aggression, displayed spite and frustration upon being met with the possibility his son might be into men. he belittles people with different sexualities and we see that in how he said "my son is the school president, he can't be into guys''. he made it clear that he doesn't respect, accept or understand people with different sexualities.

ben seemed scared in this situation. he might have felt fear that his father might hurt him physically or feared he would hate him for who he is. knowing that your own parent is ready to give up on you if they were to find out the truth is the worst kind of feeling. he doesn't want to lose his father, he doesn't want to be judged and hated by his own family. it's a feeling no one would wish to experience in their life. he feels like he has to live up to his father's expectations and he doesn't want to betray his trust in him.

you could see when his dad asked him if nueng was the one who initiated the kiss, he was actually torn up between making a choice - a choice to protect the boy he has feelings for or to protect himself from his father's wrath. in the end, he chose the latter.

ben knew that he's committing a mistake the moment he said out aloud it was nueng who started it all. he immediately felt guilt but he wouldn't take back his words - he did what he thought was best for protecting himself in fear of what was to happen if he admits the truth.

he didn't treat nueng right and no one deserves that, but i hope that people don't go too harsh on him - having to deal with homophobia, when it comes from your own family, isn't easy

I don't trust Palm's Dad, I think he is an enemy to Nueng. His subservience is overdone and the backstory for why is vague. In the whole scene with Palm at the hospital he knew Nueng was watching - showed no surprise when he watched Mrs Tanya hug him. His violence towards Palm is overt and obviously long running and most importantly he said to Palm "make him like you". That is ominous af.

I think he is the villain of the piece (like the backstory with Nueng's dad is actually one of enmity OR maybe it's Chopper's dad he owes everything to) and he is setting up Palm to betray Nueng. The question is will he (Palm)? Or will his love for Nueng help him break free of his abusive father.
