can you do jerma's meat grinder monologue?
Okay, if I... if I chop you up in a meat grinder, and the only thing that comes out, that's left of you, is your eyeball, you'r- you're PROBABLY DEAD! You're probably going to - not you, I'm just sayin', like, if you- if somebody were to, like, push you into a meat grinder, and, like, your- one of your finger bones is still intact, they're not gonna pick it up and go, "Well see, yeah it wasn't deadly, it wasn't an instant kill move! You still got, like, this part of your finger left!" NO I'M NOT GONNA PUT YOU INTO A MEAT GRINDER. I'M NOT GONNA PUT YOU INTO A MEAT GRINDER. NO. I'm making a reference to the fact that, like, if I, like, if I were to get fucking KILLED... I don't know, YOU KNOW WHAT I'M SAYIN'. If- if- okay, if you were to- okay we're gonna take humans out of this, if alien Globgobglobgo 1 fuckin' shoots a disintegrating ray at alien Globglo 2, if there's only fucking TEETH LEFT, it's- it's fucking you're dead, you're dead.
"If I were to put you in a meat grinder," goddamnit, it's so fucked up! You understand what I'm sayin' though, I'm not actually saying that I'm going to put somebody in a meat grinder, goddamnit. Whatever.

As much as Snowpea is great I do wanna throw some love out there for Nettle too. She's got great goblin design and everything I've seen with her in it has been real fun.
thank you! I have fun drawing her.

GRRM’s blog just updated and he seems pissed
https://georgerrmartin.com/notablog/2024/07/11/here-there-be-dragons-2/
LMFAOOOOO drag them!!! I was under the impression he was in the writers room because I swear that’s what they announced to get people to watch the show? But he clearly doesn’t know what’s going on in the writers rooms for HOTD and apparently doesn’t even have control over some things for his books 🤨
Anywho he’s definitely talking about Nettles and Sheepstealer towards the end. Sheepstealer only went to the Vale because Nettles took him there and got a cave for him to live in. He didn’t go there on his own and just flew around freely (assuming those leaks are true and Sheepstealer is actually in the Vale) but really it applies to any dragon. He’s telling them to stop fucking up his canon but will they listen? But seems like he will just publicly take shots at them until they stop messing with his story. Love that for us 😂😂

You don’t believe Nettles was Daemon’s bastard?
🤨 Yes? I mean, no, I don't believe Daemon fucked his daughter. Presuming that's what you're asking, and that you aren't a sexual-relationship-denialist. (I find "anti" doesn't quite work as a properly definitive noun here.) If you are, though, you should reread:
By the dwarf’s account, Daemon Targaryen had come to love the small brown bastard girl, and had taken her into his bed. How much credence can we give the fool’s testimony? [...] Septon Eustace says her teeth were crooked, her nose scarred where it had once been slit for thieving. Hardly a likely paramour for a prince, one would think. Against that we have The Testimony of Mushroom…and in this case, the Chronicles of Maidenpool as set down by Lord Mooton’s maester. Maester Norren writes that “the prince and his bastard girl” supped together every night, broke their fast together every morning, slept in adjoining bedchambers, that the prince “doted upon the brown girl as a man might dote upon his daughter,” instructing her in “common courtesies” and how to dress and sit and brush her hair, that he made gifts to her of “an ivory-handled hairbrush, a silvered looking glass, a cloak of rich brown velvet bordered in satin, a pair of riding boots of leather soft as butter.” The prince taught the girl to wash, Norren says, and the maidservants who fetched their bath water said he oft shared a tub with her, “soaping her back or washing the dragon stink from her hair, both of them as naked as their namedays.” None of this constitutes proof that Daemon Targaryen had carnal knowledge of the bastard girl, but in light of what followed we must surely judge that more likely than most of Mushroom’s tales.
Or to sum up what Gyldayn is saying: "normally Mushroom is not trustworthy. However, here is a maester (someone in my job, someone I trust) with his professional records of the histories of Maidenpool, and he confirms Mushroom's story. I think it's very likely."
Or what GRRM is saying: "I know I set up Mushroom to be the wild sexy gossip you can't believe guy, but this is an actual bit of wild sexy truth here, ok? Sorry the conceit of my history book doesn't let me actually state anything outright."
And in case you were asking the daddy-in-more-ways-than-one question, no, I've stated from the start (2013 with TPATQ, tyvm) that Nettles exists to show that dragonriding does not necessarily require Valyrian blood. Daemon is just paternalistic. Patronizing, in a Henry Higgins meets "Wildest Dreams" kinda way...

Since I saw your post about daemon’s redemption: Have to say it’s really goddamn telling that Daemyra is the most popular ship involving daemon while nettles is the least popular despite being his arguably only canonical love interest. Like yes Daemon x nettles is problematic though what ship in asoiaf isn’t and Nettles is who daemon arguably sacrifices everything for in order for her to escape unharmed plus nettles confronts all of daemons toxic ideals and forces him to change. I swear if nettles wasn’t a black woman and was white like rhaenyra people wedlock to daemon x nettles in a heart beat but because nettles was black people need to show faux concern and say “what about rhaenyra” you know the woman who tried to hate crime nettles
Oh yeah is funny because while I do ship Alys and Daemon on the show, I saw some D*emyra already being more open about them being a thing then Nettles and Daemon.
I even remember people making threads, how, makes no sense Daemon fall for Nettles because she has no Valyrian characteristics. What you know is exactly the point of why Martin wrote he falling in love for Nettles, despite the problematic aspects. It is the whole Brienne and Jaime arc. Brienne is not even close to a classic knight or the classic beauty of woman but she honorable and beautiful in her way as Nettles despite probably not having any Valyrian blood on her she still able to do something no one was, taming a big wild dragon while also not being westorosi beauty standard. All this affect Jaime/Daemon to question their views and change to better. ( And arguably Brienne and Jaime are way more popular than Nettles and Daemon).
Of course this is lost when Ryan adapted the Valaryons to be black, so in this sense I understand why Ryan wouldn't want to adapt the romance between them because part of what make it compelling is lost. Whatever her character shouldn't get repurpose to other characters, and had her importance diminished in the process, because if you saw the leaks, Sheepstealer is small and ugly, and not ugly in the way Vaghar or Vermithor are ugly. The dragon is ugly that stand out as weak and have no appeal even compared to other dragons and it looks even generic design.
Imagine if Game of thrones they have repurpose Brienne to Pod and made him a shitty swordsman and Jaime gave him a random sword. Meanwhile instead of Jaime learning important lessons about himself, the world and being a important step to disconnect from the toxic relationship with Cersei, he had learned to embrace even more hid worse threats and all he needs was to be loyal to Cersei.
The narrative in the book on purpose says "Jaime throwing a kid from the window for love is not right." While the show justifies Daemon killing for Rhaenyra, doing b&c and so on. You know how insane this is?! The fandom back in the time would go crazy over this. Meanwhile hotd fandom, specially tb, justifies it and even some like it.
And he done that for what? Fanservice? Because is that how it feels. This season feels in a lot of sense filler and response for Twitter fans. Either to criticize, to justify it self or to endorse the worse opinions there.

I follow you for so long already, and I still remember how scrubby Nettle looked when you got her and now she just looks so great. Like of course you can still tell her apart from Finch because work vs showline but her coat looks just really healthy and in good condition now 💛
first two pics from era 2020 (nettle acquisition era) & bottom two pics are from era yesterday & today
i took a huge chance getting nettle (due to Not Mentioning On Social Media reasons). i thought if we could work through some minor issues and everything her breeder said was true, then she’d be a fantastic dog. i am so, so glad i took that chance. i never thought of her as an immature dog but looking back she’s matured so much both in body & mind and i. ugh. she’s so incredible. she’s going to be one of those dogs you & anyone you know talk about for your entire life because that’s how big of an impression she makes.

In regard to the show's decision to make House Velaryon black I honestly feel this was less to make the show diverse and more to protect Rhaenyra's image.
You can be Team Black/Rhaenyra stan and still acknowledge that her treatment of Nettles in the books stemmed from prejudice and racism. So by the show making her key allies black you can no longer accuse her of anti-black racism. How can she be racist when she married a black man? How can her comments about Nettles be considered racist when she betrothed her sons to two black girls? In fact Rhaenyra now has black ancestry via Alyssa Velaryon!
This was all done to protect their main character, we know that because House Velaryon's storylines, relationships, personalities etc. have been written out by the show or given to white characters instead. They don't care about black characters, they just didn't want Rhaenyra to look racist.
The Rhaenyra bias in the show is glaringly obvious, so I wouldn’t be surprised if that was the reason.

i don't agree with you, i have interpreted as i said with no bad intentions. however i find a bit funny how you talk as if only tg character had been ruined when in truth 90% of the characters had been ruined. they litterally made rhaenyra, who suffers the death of two children, a father and an usurpation begging alicent for peace💀 the writers made her look like an idiot for almost all the seasons, erase jace and cregan's relationship and jayne state about how women must stand together, completely ruined rhaenys character, erase beala and rhaena's importance and personality, made daemon nearly betray rhaenyra, erase jace's importance. and say the show writer want to whitewash rhaenyra as if they didn't have her abandoned alicent after the marriage and have her ignore her while in canon rhaenyra was happy to have another mother's figure after aemma's death, they made her lie to alicent on her mother's name, look like a brat during her tour in finding an husband when in canon never happened, they make her fuck deamon at laena's wedding and attack aemond first meanwhile in the book she did so after her stepmother demanded her 5 years old eye. and of course they also erase her anger for the loss of visenya and made her consider the greens term 💀💀💀
paradoxically, the best write character in this season (the one who seem to have at least two functioning neurons and the one who act coherently) are just two members of tg, aemond and aegon💀
hun, team black is overwhelmingly more popular than team green. If they were trying to ruin the tb characters, they did a shit job. Almost every change that has been made to Rhaenyra has been in service of making her more like Daenerys (rational, calm, levelheaded, kind, someone who legit wants peace), that's why they have her resolve to fight after suffering heavy losses when in the book she hardly did jack shit. Jace/Cregan I'll agree with, but based on the reddit leaks, Jace is just gonna be their scapegoat for why the war isn't gonna go in Rhaenyra's favor. Also, what was the most important thing Jace did during the dance? The dragonseed plan? Hmmm I wonder who got that plotline instead, thus "erasing Jace's importance". You don't think they whitewashed Rhaenyra? She had a whole monologue that sounded like it was written in response to future critiques she might get about her own husband beheading a child and hurting "Helaena, an innocent". Not to mention the bs prophecy. As for young Rhaenyra, I actually like her, since she has flaws and an actual personality. A child being angry their father "replaced" their mother and lashing out at anyone in their vicinity is a sympathetic character who feels realistic. And what book exactly did you read? Her father had singers invited to court to call her the Realm's Delight she was absolutely spoiled. Alicent and Rhenyra's book relationship began to sour when Daemon arrived at court, and encouraged Rhaenyra to join him in making fun of her half-siblings, who were toddlers at the time. Royal children for this time period were usually cared for by people other than their mothers, and had their own households of servants, so Alicent not taking on a motherly role to someone else's child really wasn't all that uncommon. She and Daemon at Laena's funeral wasn't a great look, but these also aren't great people. The book still notes how scandalous people found it that they'd both marry after their spouses had barely been dead half a year. What do you mean attack Aemond first??? He was missing an eye???? Rhae and Alicent kept their book canon lines of wanting an eye and sharply questioned, but the writers made Alicent go one step forward in drawing a knife and actually attacking people (which I lowkey loved but still).
As for the others, I do wish they kept Jeyne Arryn's statement in, if not for the hilarity of watching Rhaenyra deny two women the right to inherit as she did, only for them to turn her away after she gets kicked out of King's Landing. Rhaenyra thinks she is above other women, and thus the exception to the rule. Also, Rhaena and Baela didn't do shit either until the very end of the dance. Baela flies Moondancer once to fight Aegon, and that's it. She still has her few scenes talking to Jace and trying to stay by his side, like in book canon.
Your original ask was just stating you thought Rhaenyra was saying Helaena has no taste for dragon battle, while I said the book already provided a reason why Helaena would not ride in battle, that being blood and cheese, and that this choice was an example of bias that wanted to minimize the damage b&c did, so the blacks wouldn't look as bad, and removing Hel and Dreamfyre's bond is another example of the writers not wanting the choice between the greens and blacks to be difficult, as one side is consistently presented as more connected to dragons, and thus more Targaryen/the rightful side. Condal has made no secret of him being a massive Targ/Dany fan, so it makes sense he would want Rhaenyra to be more like Dany, going so far as to connect Rhae sitting the Iron Throne to Dany's dragons.
As for the part of this ask I found most hilarious, "made Daemon nearly betray Rhaenyra"
hunny, HUNNY.... Daemon DOES betray Rhaenyra, and he does it to save a teenage black girl that Rhae wanted beheaded in her sleep because she's racist and wanted guest's right to be broken, leading Maidenpool to raise Aegon's banners instead. "But where is Nettles?" you might be wondering. Well, the writers didn't want to adapt one of the worst things Rhaenyra does that would undoubtedly make a lot of people dislike her, so they cut Netty, the only canonically black character in F&B, who has a fully fleshed out storyline (unlike Rhaena/Baela/Hugh/Ulf, who the show did manage to find time for).
As for tg characters being better written, most of that is accidental since they're the bad guys, so the writers are fine with heaping flaws and wrongdoings onto them. It's called being a character (I will have to disagree with your Aemond assessment man's all over the place).
Anywho, if you haven't already guessed, almost every character in the show is poorly written because the writers aren't very good at their jobs, and have some very weird views on women. That being said, poor writing is different from writers being biased in how they approach certain characters over others. They clearly favor Rhaenyra as the good guy protag, and write her as such, just while doing a shit job at it.

Nettles is Daemon’s daughter and absolutely no one can convince me otherwise. First of all, her personality is incredibly similar to Daemon’s mother, Alyssa, which I don’t think is a coincidence. Both are anything but refined and ladylike, Alyssa is “as bawdy a wench as any barmaid in King’s Landing, as she herself was fond of boasting”, Nettles is “a filthy girl with an even filthier mouth”, both are tearaway tomboys, they are both described as not conventionally attractive, Alyssa has a broken nose and mismatched eyes while Nettles has a scarred nose and crooked teeth. And not only Alyssa, but also Baelon’s bravery, bopping Balerion on the nose, Baela and Daemon’s personalities all echo in Nettles, particularly in how she tames Sheepstealer. There are too many similarities between them for it to be random.
Second of all, if we look at Daemon’s reaction to “Rhaenyra’s” letter, there’s something a lot of people miss:
The prince greeted me politely, but as he read I saw the joy go from his eyes, and a sadness descended upon him, like a weight too heavy to be borne. When the girl asked what was in the letter, he said, ‘A queen’s words, a whore’s work.’
He was happy when he got a letter from his queen and wife, but became very sad when he read its contents, he was crushed with grief. He then blamed Mysaria for the content of the letter. This reveals several things:
1. If he lost attraction to Rhaenyra and was cheating on her, why would he be happy to get her letter ?
2. If he didn’t care about Rhaenyra, why would he be sad instead of angry ? Why did he feel no guilt or shame, or try to cover up the truth if he was cheating ?
3. If all he wanted to do was control Rhaenyra as a puppet, if he only cared about himself having power, why didn’t he fly back to King’s Landing after letting Nettles escape and come up with a way to gaslight Rhaenyra, who at this point was beginning to lose her handle on King’s Landing ? Wouldn’t he have wanted to prioritize winning the war ? Persuade Rhaenyra to name their son Aegon heir instead of Joffrey ?
4. A “weight too heavy to be borne.” That isn’t the reaction of a man who got caught cheating and regrets it, it’s the reaction of a man devastated that his queen and wife lost faith in him and made him choose between her and his daughter.
He blames Mysaria for the letter, instead of getting angry at Rhaenyra herself. Why is that ? Because he lived with Rhaenyra in an unconventional joint family for a decade and yet Rhaenyra is unable to accept Nettles and doesn’t trust him anymore. Rhaenyra and Daemon raised all of their children together. He likely expected that he’d be able to officially introduce Nettles as his daughter after the war. But those plans were dashed terribly.
Yeah, it's exhausting to point out all of the things you say abt Mysaria, Nettles, and Daemon time and time again over the past few years to people. As for Nettles being Daemon's bio daughter, I truly believe in it. At first I was like "🤨" but then "🤔" and now I've been on board for a while. It just makes sense to me, esp when you contemplate that Daemon absolutely would have been sleeping around on Rhea while a few feet/miles from the Stepstones or slept with some pirate or whatever. And yes, it adds so much to see Nettles act Baela-Daemon-like or have more...room to behave contrary to the ideal "lady" when she's had to look out for herself perhaps from very young childhood.

It’s so funny when people try to hate on Nettles, Rhaena, and Baela when they are really the most innocent characters with fan bases that have the least drama. There is nothing to hate
Honestly though. The entire show has bad writing. When Baela and Rhaena are the victims of badly written scenes it’s anti them. When it’s anyone else it’s rush to interference and let everyone know it’s not the characters/actors but the writers. The fake outrage about most of their scenes will never not be funny to me.
Like clockwork every time Baela and Rhaena get attention from the general public there’s fandom people that get bothered and start posting think pieces pretending to critic the writing. The only genuine criticism that show gets regarding their characters are from people that actually like them. The rest of it is just hating disguised as criticism. There’s people in the fandom who ignore them and pretend like they don’t exist and in their echo chambers they forget that Baela & Rhaena have actual Stans. They leave their echo chamber and get mad the characters aren’t being perceived how they perceive them in their spaces; which is disregarded and only brought up for concern trolling and fandom discourse. There’s the black stans that don’t see them as anything other than props. Baela goes viral and you see a bunch of people suddenly trying to latch Rhaenyra onto her and Laena 😂 when they don’t even have a relationship and Rhaenys was literally the one who raised her. Or if they want Nettles cut they pretend to gaf about Daemon’s relationship with Rhaena when they’ve ignored it for the past 2 years and laughing about how Daemon doesn’t care about anyone other than Rhaenyra which includes his kids 😂 but now they want to see father of the year Lmfaoo
Then there’s the green stans obsessed with discourse and wanting the GA to see characters the way they see them and don’t want Baela & Rhaena to be fan faves. The incessant trying to convince everyone to find them boring and “they don’t do anything in the book.” There was entire discourse about how green characters should have their stories changed and embellished and it’s only fair because Rhaena “gets to claim a dragon” as if Rhaena having her story erased and ruined is a good thing. It just makes it obvious it’s not really about the story to people. The only thing they think of is 90% of people that watch that show aren’t even following the story but only want to see dragons and violence and they think Rhaena having a dragon will make her popular. That’s literally all they care about 😂😂so unserious Mind you these are the same people that will pretend to stan Netty so they can be “outraged” at Rhaena stealing Sheepstealer. And they reduce her character to sleeping with Daemon and don’t understand why she should be in the show and her importance in the dance is not breaking up some raggedy ship.

So is Valyrian/Targaryen blood needed to claim a dragon? I saw that everyone online was very persistent that it was, but I recently discovered Nettles and it no one knows if she has that blood
Dragons had only really been ridden by Valyrians before this point, but they'd also been gatekeeped (gatekept?) by the Valyrians through strategic marriages and careful guarding of their eggs and dragons.
(By the way, this is another reason GRRM says that his dragons don't wander and roam. They live on Dragonstone or are brought to KL, and they don't go further on their own. Otherwise, who's to say someone non-Valyrian couldn't try to claim one for their house or take their eggs? This would be immense power and people would have taken any chance they could to get that kind of power.)
Nettles' purpose in the story is to challenge Valyrian supremacy. Nettles is a character who is in contrast to the Valyrians and specifically is a foil to Rhaenyra. Where Rhaenyra has light hair, light skin, and has Valyrian features, Nettles has dark skin, dark hair, and common features. Rhaenyra is highborn royalty, daughter of the last king, and Nettles is of common birth and belongs to no known family. Rhaenyra speaks Valyrian and has Valyrian blood, but Nettles does not. And despite all these differences between the two, Nettles gained a dragon just as Rhaenyra did, except the circumstances are also contrasted. Rhaenyra had the dragonkeepers to guide her and teach her Valyrian to speak as she bonded with Syrax in the Dragonpit as a young girl. Nettles had no such guidance, instead claiming the wild Sheepstealer by bringing sheep she to his lair near Dragonstone for him to eat and slowly gaining his trust. One last point of contrast is the two characters' views on dragons. Rhaenyra sees the power of dragons as a means to win what she sees as her rightful throne and willingly unleashes them in battle against her foes to gain power, and she feels no remorse for those whose lives she's destroyed in the process. Nettles, on the other hand, was purposefully noted to have been tearful after having been made to use her dragon in battle, in contrast to the other dragonseeds who were celebrating the triumph of the battle and the destructive power of their dragons.
A side note is that this character's relationship with Daemon allowed him to challenge his own beliefs about his legacy and his loyalty to Rhaenyra, and it's because of Nettles' role in the story and decisions made by Rhaenyra and Daemon regarding Nettles that Daemon ultimately decides to disobey Rhaenyra and go to intentionally end his life in battle with Aemond.
Essentially, Nettles as a character is meant to show that you don't need Valyrian blood to ride a dragon. Some people argue she did have Valyrian blood and that she was a bastard of some Targaryen or Velaryon, maybe even of Daemon himself, but it seems clear to me in the way that she was written as a foil to Rhaenyra that she does not actually have Valyrian blood. The writers of HOTD seem to agree, as it is rumored that they will reveal Ulf as having lied about his Valyrian descent and having claimed his dragon without it (he was a little bit too forthcoming about his "Valyrian" background in that bar scene). Essentially, they are giving this aspect of a Black character's story to a white character.
Some people also think Nettles and Daemon had a father-daughter relationship as well, and it seems with the merging of Rhaena and Nettles in the show that they will generally go this route, once again taking the story of a Black character and giving it to a Valyrian character. However, in the books the two were noted to have bathed together, taken meals together, and shared a bed, so it seems unlikely that this was a fatherly relationship between the two, and especially considering Daemon's interest in young girls in the past it's not crazy to think they were together. It's not even out of the ordinary for him and Rhaenyra's relationship, as he also took Mysaria as a paramour once again in KL when Rhaenyra sat the throne. He wasn't just 100% faithful to Rhaenyra - this is the Rogue Prince we're taking about anyway. And it's the romantic and sexual nature of Daemon and Nettles' relationship that motivates Rhaenyra's hate and distrust toward her, among other basic things about her.
Cutting Nettles removes complexity from Daemon's arc and doesn't make him confront his Valyrian supremacy. It removes a key foil to Rhaenyra's character and avoids the sexism, classism, and racism she displays against Nettles when she orders her death (under guest right) based on rumors and paranoia. And above all it erases the story of the only narratively Black character, one who was non-Valyrian and lowborn, who claimed a dragon despite having no name, no family, no titles, no specific language, and no guidance. Making Rhaena claim Sheepstealer erases key parts of the Nettles story and its purpose in the narrative, and this will be to the detriment of the overall story.

He’s her adopted son that she probably got because she saw The Three Good Fairies raising kids, but they’re both love mischief and mayhem so much they end up actually bonding.
(So I guess this would technically make him a sorcerer/warlock but he’s raised by a fairy so he gets to still be a fairy godfather)
