I HAVE JUST SEEN RE-ANIMATOR. I do not often watch two movies the same day, but watching Beetlejuice Beetlejuice this morning made me want to see something similar, and I've been wanting to watch this one for a while.
I LOVED IT !! I've never been much of a cinephile, so I've been trying to figure out what I like in movies. I have determined three elements : fun, visual codes of horror, and buckets of blood. This movies had all three, though it's more heavy on the "horror" and blood part, it was still fun !
I think that figuring out what kind of horror a movie is is very complicated. Horror movies are scary. Several of my favorite movies are considered "horror", except that I did not find them scary at all, thus, I cannot consider them "horror". Which is why I specified "visual codes of horror", because I like the *looks* of horror, but not the *scaryness* of it. I like spooky, not scary. And THIS is SPOOKY !
First of all, the chatacters. Herbert is such a little shit, and I like him for that. From the beginning he is unlovable, insane, and it makes me like him very much. I also liked seeing Dan slipping into Herbert's side. Dr. Hill is a creep tho. I don't like that guy.
The story is based, if I am not mistaken, on a short story written by Lovecraft. It indeed had that Lovecraftian atmosphere to it, I would be interested in reading it. I also liked the scientific aspect of it all. It makes it almost... believable.
Now the fun part : the gore ! Hell yeah that was GOOD. I love some chopped up corpses. The obly moment that made me feel uneasy was the cat. Animal suffering is... not really my thing. Human suffering either, that said. Suffering in general. Except when it's dead humans or non-humans, then I don't mind. But animals will always be the exception. I also have this... repugnance to zombies. Technically, they were zombies. But I didn't see them as such, they were too freshly dead and did not have that usual... Zombie flair, if you know what I mean. I LOVED Dr. Hill's intestines coming to life after the serum overdose. It was clever and looked good !
I also loved the music. It was simple but efficient.
I don't think I've forgotten anything I wanted to say about this movie...
I heard the sequels are good (or at least okay). There's also a newer, shorter movie that came out in 2022 (The Curse of the Re-Animator), but I'm not sure about that one. However I am DEFINITLY going to watch the making-of documentary !! I've also heard about a crossover with another movie/franchise I've never heard of (The Resonator : Miskatonic U), called "Beyond the Resonator". I don't think I want to watch it... but hey, if you've seen that resonator movie, maybe you could convince me otherwise ?
Anyways. Great movie. Definitly one of my favorites :)

Dear Nethal,
Tumblr media
That's great. The Steel Samurai is a wonderful series...
Tumblr media
Ehem for a children's show. I would start with the first episode. Watch each movie per season so you don't confuse yourself.

Heyya ! I am making an animated serie (well... I haven't starred it yet but I wrote like 5 episods). The story follows Nethal, a young spotted hyena (it's a furry story) through her new life. The story is about changes, starting-blocks à new life in à new place, meeting new people and, well, also the sadness, the pain of losing everything and everyone you loved. It's not a sad story tho, just... emotional. It's à story about everyday's life, without à reaaally big plot with plot twists and stuff (I mean, there's still an evil organization but it's not à big deal in the story). I would like the title to be short, from 2 to 3-4 words (but more is okay). My ultimate goal would be that the acronym of the title is "owo" or "uwu" but... I think it'll be too much furry, since I want not only furries to watch it.
Sorry, it was a bit long. I hope it doesn't bother you 😭😭
(Ps : sorry if my english isn't perfect)
Titles: //anything in two slashes is a note//
-(let’s / we could) begin again
-out with old //abbreviates to owo//
-ugly wins understanding //abbreviates to uwu//
-how to move on
-without you
-the ghost[s] of (you / them)
-not from scratch, from experience //get it? scratch? i’m hilarious//
.
If you want more titles I can come up with more, and all of these titles can be edited as you like. Thank you for the ask! As seems to be the usual now, sorry about not answering many requests!
Don’t worry about English! You’re doing great!! Anyways, this story sounds really really cool! If you’d like to share it I’d love to watch it!!

Whoo, Trolls movies. Lots of stuff to say about them. I saw the first one when it came out. It wasn't at the cinema tho. Once my dad said "hey I put a movie downstairs) and it was Trolls. Now, it wasn't the best conditions to watch it. I enjoyed it, I found it very fun and entertaining, but for some reason my step-mother was watching with me and seemed to NOT enjoy the movie at all, she'd ask me if I was really interested and stuff, and it made me kinda nervous ? Anyway. I liked it and that's what matters. However it was a long time ago and I don't remember all the details.
Tumblr media
When the second movie came out, I wasn't too interested and didn't go to the theatre to watch it. I thought it would be a shitty sequel, much like many more of its kind. After the third movie came out, I found out that a LOT of people enjoyed the last wto movies, and that there was an entire comlunity behind them. So, out of curiousity, I watched the second movie. And oh boy, I honestly didn't expect to enjoy it that much !
First of all, I love how the different troll species were handled. Worldbuilding ? Hell yeah. Then, the actual story. It was good ! It's about accepting others etc... I think it was a metaphor for racism ? Maybe, I'm not good at analyzing stuff. I really liked the new characters, of course the rock trolls are super cool, but I think my favorite new characters are Hickory and Chaz.
Tumblr media
I watched the third movie the day after. It introduced Branch's and Poppy's long-lost siblings, which was surprising to say the least. I also loved Velvet and Veneer, this movies villains. I loved them as in I hated them, but they were cool being evil. I liked how they were both prortrayed, Veneer being pressured by his sister to keep on draining Floyd's energy. I have sympathy for Veneer, but not Velvet.
In conclusion, I'd say that these three movies have surprisingly deep themes and meanings, and that they only get better, the second and third being the best in my opinion.

Hetalia is my favorite anime ever. It as also a very weird anime that has quite  abad reputation. I watched the entre thing in three weeks (6 seasons of 12 to 24 episodes) in january 2021, then wat hed the movie in february. The 7th season was rekeased in April that year.
The story is... inexplicable. In fact, it doesn't really have a story at all. Hetalia is a parody anime, excepts is parodies History. The characters are human versions of countries. Each episode is 5 minuts long, add to that the opening and ending, they are extremly short. Every episode consist of a couple of skits. As I said, it is a parody anime that bases itself on History, so it somehow has an educative scope. For example, it made me learn that Lithuania was unified in 1236.
Now how could I talk about Hetalia without talking about its humor ? It is... absurd. Nonsensical. The only thing you think about when watching this anime is "what the sweet fuck is that ?". It's the kind of anime you either obsessively love or hate with a burning passion. I am in the first category.
Another point worth mentionning : the difference between the japanese version and the english dub. It's affected by what I call the "Ghost Stories Syndrome". In case you don't know what Ghost Stories is, it's an anime about teenagers chasing ghosts in their school. The japanese version is perfectly normal, but the english dub it... well, it's quite parodic. Lots of jokes, improv... the most famous clip is one in which a girl brought her dead bunny back to life or something and tells its ghost "it could have never worked between us ! Not because you're a rabbit... but because you're black !" This one : https://youtu.be/RINHjxsPOEg?si=jtWIBZkkWZtzE7U-. See what I mean ? Well, it's the same with Hetalia, excepts that the original material is already unhinged. I watched the japanese version, but watched enough of the english dub clips to admire how insane the english voice actors were.
Hetalia started as a webcomic, then there was the manga, the anime, the movie and musicals. There are also at least two official games, a bunch of albums and various proeminent fan-creations (HetaOni, Auf Wiedersehen Sweetheart, Gutters, The Danish Slaughterhouse, 23.5)
Now, would I recommend this anime ? No. Don't watch it. It's hell in there. Most fans will tell you that they hate this show and it's for a reason : it traps you. Once you're in, you can't get out. They say there is a thin line between crazy and genius, and I am convinced that Himaruya Hidekaz himelf is that line. But that's my thing, I like crazy stuff :]

My mom took me to say this movie telling me almost nothing except it was a musical and, honestly, it was a very good surprise. It's one of those movie I would've never see by myself. It was a very good experience. The story and characters were really fascinating.
Also, the songs were AMAZING

It is definitly one of my favorite animated serie ! You might think that it's a childish show, but it has very interesting themes and morales. Mostly about friendship, yes, but not only.
Making friends has always been complicated for me, and this show shows how friendship can be difficult sometimes, and it genuinly makes me feel better about myself.
My favorite characters are Big Mac and Discord. My favorite Princess is Pincess Luna. My favorite from the mane six is... all of them. I relate to Twiligh Sparkle way too much : we both make lists of things that need to be done, overly planify everything in advance; and freak the fuck out when even the littlest detail does not go as planned.
One of my favorite fact about MLP:FIM is that Justin Bieber is a minor antagonist in an episode.

I saw Beetlejuice Beetlejuice today, and I loved every bit of it. In fact, I realize that I've never talked too much about Beetlejuice on my blog, when it's one of my favorite piece of media. So I'm also gonna talk about the first movie and the musical !
Tumblr media Tumblr media
I watched the musical first, then watched the movie. Beetlejuice is definitly my favorite musical ! The songs, the costumes, the decors, the props, and the characters ! I love the musical Beetlejuice very much, and Lydia too ! I think the musical is one of my favorite iteration of Beetlejuice. I cannot stress enough how much I LOVE the qongs ! They are so perfect !! Exactly the kind of music I love ! And the whole wackyness and chaos of the acting. I just really really love the musical :>
The movie was a lot of fun too. I watched it two times, once alone, once with my parents.
At first, I was dubious. What could a second Beetlejuice movie be about ?? Turns out that it was AMAZING. I especially loved how the special effects were not computer-generated. It was all puppets and stop-motion. Awesome. It gives a much more tangible feeling, you know ? I also liked the new characters, especially Dolores. I wish she had more screentime tho, we don't know too much about her, sadly. The movie version of Beetlejuice (the character) is... kinda gross, but lovable nonetheless. Lovable as in "oh my god he's such an awful person I hope he dies <3". Characters like Beetlejuice are my favorite kind of characters anyway :]
I loved how they avoided showing Charle's head too ! I suppose the actor wasn't availabke anymore, but they handled it perfectly.
The only negative thing I have to say about this movie is that, for some reason, I didn't like Lydia's character as much as I did in the first movie. Oh, also, I really liked the Maitlands, I wish they handled their "disappearance" better. It was brushed off in a single sentence. Considering they were main characters in the movie, it would've made more sense to five them at least a better explanation for not being there anymore...
And guess what !
Tumblr media
I made myself a Sandworm Scarf ! It has 2 mouths, you can put your hands in them and it's super long and thick so it's extra warm. It's all crochet. I could add a tongue but idk, maybe later. Also, here's one of my cat :]
If you wish to make your own, I can totally explain how I did it, just message me. It was a very fun project. It took me ober à year to cololete it but it's because I am very slow at crocheting and I kept on procrastinating. You could most likely finish it under a week, I guess.
AND !
Tumblr media
My parents get a Premiere magazine each month, and my mom let me keep their Beetlejuice Beetlejuice one. I am literally just goung to look at the pictures, but still, it makes me happy. Okay, I'm gonna read the Beetlejuice Beetlejuice article, at least. There's also an article about the new The Crow remake, but I'm never going to watch it, so I don't really care.
Now that I've talked so much, you might be asking yourself "but, Nethal ! How about the Beetlejuice cartoon ?"
Tumblr media
I haven't seen it. Yet ! As soon as I'm done with Invader Zim, I'm gonna watch the Beetlejuice cartoon, I promise :3

I can't believe I've watched all of Danny Phantom ! I really enjoyed it. It was fun, packed with action and humour !
I also really liked the graphic style. I like all cartoons to ne honest. But especially, I liked how the color palette changes to green and purple when ghosts are attacking. It fits into the "spooky but not scary" vibe and I enjoy that.
I really liked the characters too ! I love à good tech geek and goth girl. And a half-ghost boy ^^
Now, I know the final episode has a bad reputation and all, but I thought it was fine. Was it the best way to end the show ? Probably not. Did the character's motivations and personality suddenly became shallow ? Yeah. But apart from that, it was alright.
I heard that the newer comic changes the end. I am definitly going to read it !

I love Ouran High School Host Club so much omg I don't even knlw where to start. It's the PERFECT mix of romance and comedy. I'm a sucker for all things wacky and hilarious, and boy. THIS. I laughed so much. Every character is incredibly funny, they're all kind of dumbasses. And of course, romance. I have a soft spot for cute love stories, I must admit. And yeah, Ouran High Scool Host Club is very cute !
It follows the story of Haruhi Fujioka, a regular girl who attends a prestigious school. While looking for a quiet place to study, she accidentally meets the "host club", who think she is a boy because of how she looks. Haruhi accidentally breaks a very expensive vase, and in order to repay her debt, she is forced to join this Host Club. Now, I never really understood what the Host Club's role it. It seems that they flirt with girls in order to get money or something ?? Anyway, Haruhi pretends to be a boy and flirts with girls to get money. I swear this anime is cool, but the premise is a bit weird. Also, there's more to the story.
Anywayyy it's my second favorite anime. The anime leaves you hungry for more but don't worry ! The manga has much more content.

FINALLY watched Little Shop of Horrors. I enjoyed it so muchhh the songs are so catchy. It's like a mix of Beetlejuice and Mars Attacks!
I didn't like the end as much as the rest of the movie though, I'm not a fan of this kind of endings.
EDIT : I learned that the theatrucal cut has a different ending, I saw the original. I like the theatrical cut ending much better :)
I really liked the characters though. Seymour and Audrey II, of course. I also liked the dentist guy, but in a "Oh my god he's such an asshole but he's kinda funny" way.
Horror musicals is really a genre I should look more into, as well as comico-gore. I think I'll watch Poultrygeist next, this movie looks fun.

This is the anime version of Il était une fois... la Vie. It follows a clumsy red blood cell and her adventures navigating a human body. The anime teaches the spectators about the human body : how the body fights viruses, what are the use of different organs, etc... but it's anime. It's unrealistic. It will make you feel empathic for your own cells. Also, the opening (the first one) is awesoooome !!
There are a LOT of spin-offs, focusing on different cells (Cells at Work White) or stages of life (Cells at Work Baby), but the most well-known is probably Cells at Work Code Black, because it recieved an anime adaptations.
Tumblr media
I watched it because I loved Cells at Work. Let me tell you how drastically different these two are ! Cells at  Work is a very cute and light-hearted anime. It will make you smile. It will make you giggle. It's a feel-good anime ! However. Code Black is... not that. At all. It takes place in the body of a depressed man who is extremly unhealthy. I swear watching this will make you want to be healthy. It's a much darker universe, more violent. Not a single trace of comedy is left. Don't watch it. If you're a fan of Cells at Work and want more, look for the manga scans. The White spin-off follows the same White Blood Cells as in the original anime, so it's probably the one I'll read next.

The cutest anime I've ever watched. Are you looking for a cute slice of life anime in which nothing goes wrong and it's just friends hanging out, while not being boring at all ? Well look no further. The story follows Sora Kashiwagi, a highschooler whose father is an "explorer". One day he sends him a huge package containig... a minuscule mummy ! It's now up to him to take care of her.
Thourough the episodes, his friends will also end up taking care of creatures : an oni, a dragon and a baku. There's not much else to say about this anime. It's quite short.
