would it be alright to use gai and strayt if one is basically nonbinary but prefers to use genderqueer as a label? not sure if that's a generally ok thing to do or if it'd be better to find genderqueer-specific terms or make alternatives using the same definition but with "genderqueer" in place of "nonbinary". Asking because I found that terms through your blog btw
that would be fine for me (but I'm not the coiner). originally, it's defined as "feeling gay/straight in a nonbinary way". in my opinion, anyone can feel they're gay and/or straight "in a nonbinary way", that doesn't specify you're nonbinary. even binary people could feel that way, don't you agree?
many places you can find them being used as "nonbinary version of gay/straight". for example, there's a wiki using strayt as interchangeable synonym of enbyhet. I see there's an overlap between being a straight nonbinary person and being strayt. while some use them in identical ways, nonbinary/binaryn't people can feel their straight attraction in a binary way. or simply being "regular" hetero whose gender is nonbinary.
if a binary het or binary gay said to me they experience their gayness/straightness "in unconventional ways" and feel that strayt/gai resonate with them, I wouldn't worry about it.
but in lack of specific terms, there I would suggest coining something prefixed with neo- (like neopronouns, neoAGAB, neogender, neomale, neofeminine, neocis (neocisgender), etc.). for example, using "neogay", "neogai", "neogae", "neostraight", "neostrayt", "neohetero"/"neohet" would mean being a new type of gay/gai/gae or straight/strayt/het(ero). but that would only be useful if you prefer these instead of simply gai/strayt or gay/str8. quasi- is an alternative
genderqueer is often described as "noncisnormative" gender/identity. so if we use "nonbinary way" as the same thing as "noncisnormative way", that would allow you to be strayt/gai. but that's what I think and could be wrong. I'm just commenting and showing my perspectives/points of view.
also, if you think about "contradictory labels" (lesboy, turigirl, saphboy, mspec lesbian, lesbian trans man, etc), it depends on you if you are open to/accepting of these experiences.

Merab Abramishvili was a Georgian painter whose works were influenced by medieval arts and European neo-expressionism.
His paintings show a unique mixture of oriental miniatures and Georgian frescoes. Despite these "influences", the artist introduced us a clearly different spoken language and style of Georgian painting. The world that the artist conveys to us seems unreal and at the same time it is remarkably earthly.

The end of an Era
Yesterday morning, on the 27th of March 2024 my dear cat Neo passed away at an age of almost 17 years. He was the last of our Oriental cats and his passing marks the end of an era for me. Our first Oriental Longhair was Jayto, born November 27th 2003 who later got company of Nintu, a black Oriental Shorthair born August 26th 2006. Sadly, Jayto got sick and died at an age of only 3 years old, not long after Nintu came. Nintu needed another Oriental cat friend because our ‘regular’ cat Joey, who had been with us since early 1995, was not interested in Oriental cat style stickiness. And so Neo came;  a black Oriental Longhair born on May 9th 2007. Neo and Nintu have been best buddies for over 13 years. They played together, slept together and went on adventures together- including our family holidays. Their personalities were polar opposites and that made them such a good match.

When Nintu died on May 7th 2020 at an age of almost 14, Neo missed his buddy so much that we adopted Yuka, a red ‘regular’ cat. He gave Neo some proper distraction with his naughtiness - hence his nickname “Geboefte” , which means criminal in Dutch.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Neo was one of the loveliest, social and most easy going cats whom I’ve known. He was timid and careful but also the most talkative and intimate. Cuddles were almost always welcome and most led to roll and belly-rub session. He had the peculiar habit to do ‘stairs sticky’ as we called it: he stood on the first or 2nd floor while you had to stand a few steps lower on the stairs with your face was at his level and cuddle him.
We often gently joked about his funny look and mannerisms. He was exceptionally small (3.5 kg at max) for a tomcat, always had a bony butt, a pronounced sternum bone that stuck out and a lean but well filled ‘sack of organs’ along with a slightly kinked tail tip. Despite his small size, his paws were proportionally huge, which was not a desired trait for the breed - but I didn’t care; I love big paws. He had a very typical quiet, calm and elegant gait with small steps and an elevated head. Quite the opposite of Nintu’s big steps  and -always-in-a-rush- pace. Neo and the other Oriental cats have left us so many precious memories. These will always remain.

Neo was also the last Feline with whom I had an intimate bond. Since I moved out of my parents’ house in 2012. I was not physically living with him anymore but I came back regularly and Neo was always there to be ‘sticky’ again. Until now. The next time I’m going back, he won’t be there anymore.
But his spirit stays

Theories of Pragmatism
Pragmatism is a philosophical movement that emphasizes the practical consequences and applications of concepts, ideas, and beliefs as the primary criterion for their truth and value. Emerging in the late 19th and early 20th centuries, pragmatism is closely associated with thinkers such as Charles Sanders Peirce, William James, John Dewey, and later Richard Rorty. Theories of pragmatism vary depending on the philosopher, but they generally share a focus on action, practical outcomes, and the evolving nature of truth and knowledge.
Core Theories of Pragmatism
Pragmatic Maxim (Charles Sanders Peirce)
Peirce's pragmatic maxim is a foundational principle of pragmatism: “Consider what effects, which might conceivably have practical bearings, we conceive the object of our conception to have. Then, our conception of these effects is the whole of our conception of the object.”
This theory suggests that the meaning of any concept lies in its observable practical effects. A belief, idea, or proposition is meaningful only if it has practical consequences or implications that can be tested and verified in experience.
Radical Empiricism (William James)
William James expanded on Peirce’s ideas, emphasizing the importance of personal experience in evaluating truth. He argued that beliefs are true if they work in a practical sense, contributing to successful outcomes or coherence in one’s life.
James viewed truth as dynamic and evolving, contingent upon its ability to resolve problems and guide action effectively, rather than as an immutable property.
Instrumentalism (John Dewey)
John Dewey developed pragmatism into a philosophy of education and social reform. He proposed that ideas and concepts are tools or instruments for solving problems.
For Dewey, knowledge arises from inquiry, which is an active process of experimentation and adaptation to the environment. Truth is not an absolute but a product of the interaction between humans and their context, shaped by its utility in achieving desired ends.
Neo-Pragmatism (Richard Rorty)
Richard Rorty introduced a postmodern twist to pragmatism, rejecting the notion of objective truth and emphasizing the contingent, social, and linguistic nature of knowledge.
Rorty argued that truth is what a community of inquirers finds most useful or agreeable in their discourse, downplaying the idea of correspondence between beliefs and an external reality.
Pragmatic Ethics
Pragmatist theories of ethics focus on the practical consequences of moral beliefs and actions. Moral principles are not fixed; instead, they evolve through social experimentation and dialogue.
Ethical truths are judged by their ability to resolve conflicts, promote human flourishing, and adapt to changing circumstances.
The Pragmatic Theory of Truth
Pragmatists define truth as what works in practice or what is most useful to believe in a given situation. This theory contrasts with correspondence and coherence theories of truth, emphasizing practicality and functionality.
Truth is viewed as provisional and contextual, validated by its consequences in lived experience rather than its conformity to an objective reality.
Fallibilism
Peirce introduced the idea of fallibilism, which holds that all knowledge and beliefs are provisional and subject to revision based on new evidence or insights.
This theory is central to pragmatism’s commitment to ongoing inquiry and the rejection of absolute certainties.
Community of Inquiry
Peirce emphasized the role of a community of inquirers in the pursuit of truth. Knowledge is not an individual endeavor but a collective, iterative process.
Truth emerges through open dialogue, experimentation, and shared reflection within a community committed to problem-solving and intellectual growth.
Pragmatic Pluralism
Pragmatism embraces pluralism, the idea that there are multiple valid perspectives, methods, and approaches to understanding reality.
This openness to diverse viewpoints aligns with pragmatism’s emphasis on practical outcomes and adaptability, recognizing that different contexts may require different solutions.
Action-Oriented Philosophy
Pragmatism emphasizes action over abstract theorizing. Ideas are evaluated by their ability to inspire effective action, resolve practical challenges, and improve life.
This focus on action underscores the dynamic and experimental nature of pragmatist thought, encouraging constant testing and refinement of ideas.
Key Themes in Pragmatism
Anti-Absolutism: Pragmatism rejects fixed, immutable truths and universal principles, emphasizing the contingent, evolving nature of knowledge.
Practical Consequences: The utility of beliefs and ideas in achieving goals and resolving problems is central to pragmatist philosophy.
Interconnectedness of Thought and Action: Pragmatists argue that thought is inherently tied to action, and the value of ideas lies in their practical application.
Adaptability: Pragmatism embraces change, experimentation, and revision in the face of new challenges and contexts.
Focus on Human Experience: Pragmatism prioritizes lived experience and its role in shaping knowledge, ethics, and truth.
Influences and Applications
Pragmatism has had a significant influence on fields such as:
Education: Dewey’s instrumentalism inspired progressive education, emphasizing experiential learning and critical thinking.
Law: Legal pragmatism focuses on the practical consequences of legal decisions and the adaptability of laws to changing social needs.
Science: Pragmatism supports a scientific approach that prioritizes inquiry, experimentation, and the refinement of theories based on evidence.
Ethics and Politics: Pragmatist ethics emphasizes dialogue, pluralism, and the pursuit of social reform through collective problem-solving.
Pragmatism continues to be a vital philosophical tradition, encouraging flexibility, creativity, and responsiveness in addressing complex issues in an ever-changing world.
