unpopular opinion (maybe): nendoroids are devolving in quality AND selection. feels like gsc is trying to gather a wider audience with stuff like spongebob, optimus prime, goofy or any marvel movie. not that it's necessarily a bad thing (i own an among us nendoroid okay) but is it even making a profit? i always see them on sale after a release. same with anime of the season-type of stuff.

wish they'd focus on stuff that's actually popular with collectors and not try to hook in people who probably aren't that interested.

yeah i don't know what in gods name good smile is doing but i'm not a fan of it. nowadays you're lucky if you nendoroid comes with a neutral face, a slight smile and a slight frown and maybe an extra waving hand. they haven't exactly gotten cheaper either so i have personally completely lost interest in nendoroids. i think the one thing i would still buy is a miffy nendoroid.....oh miffy my dearest beloved......

i also don't think the american media nendoroids are working. i think some stuff that is already popular amongst collectors who like cute things, like snoopy, do work but i don't know who is out here buying suicide squad nendoroids. honestly a shame they're not making decent products for the collectors who have supported their brand all these years.

Can you believe the most pins and keychains I got aren’t Kara? Yeah the mystery selections I bought had very little to no Kara stuff but I still appreciate what I got 💙

The one on the right is a phone bag actually but I use it to store my medication and other stuff I need for work (hence why it looks used 💦)

I’m kinda sad I don’t have many figures but they make great desk buddies💙

(FUNFACT: I actually own two Kara Nendoroids because one time I wanted a Oso one but they send me blue Oso instant. When I saw this I heard ✨destiny✨ in Karamatsu’s thick accent in my head so I decided to keep him. As you see he really is a disease)

Ham-ha! Here's a few more goods I managed to find! I was super lucky, someone had sold off their collection to a store right next to my hotel, so each day I would go to grab whatever plushies I was missing. I got all of the plishies in the first image from there.

I also found the Oxnard nendoroid that released recently. This one was actually difficult to find, I only saw it in three stores the entire trip!

Right below the nendoroid are two buttons from the Hamtqro Mochi Cafe back in 2020. These originally came from blind bags that were only sold at Tokyo Skytree (where the cafe was set up). I found these and the plastic Oxnard figure in a second hand shop in Akihabara. That shop also had a ton of the 2023 Godzilla-ham gacha, here they are locked up!

I found the Waiting For You Forever 2024 gacha in a random gacha stores in Akihabara. I only managed to find it by checking Japanese Twitter constantly. I'm lucky I found it because it sold out a couple hours after I got my set!

Lastly I found the Godzilla-ham sticker sheet at Yamashiroya, they didn't have the biggest selection so I'd suggest checking a Yodabashi first if you're looking for the plushies.

is there any specific type of figure u like to collect? (like a specific character or franchise, or nendoroids or scale figures, or something) :3

my tastes are honestly all over the place and as such my collection is really eclectic! i do have a fair amount of nendos due to their affordability, wide selection, and adorable little proportions but i don't know if I'd even say they're my favs? i think i tend to gravitate towards tiny stuff and i figure that's from being obsessed with those little digimon/pokemon figurines and polly pockets as a kid. there's something so appealing about having a bunch of colourful little things lined up...

i usually only go for characters that hardly get any sort of merch or designs that really mesh with my tastes so scale and all that isn't as important to me usually! it's hard to define but here's some random snapshots of my desk

I'll give this show credit in one particular place: the merchandise. It seems like one of the few kids shows from the past couple of years that actually has products attached to it. Candy, cereal, ice cream, episode novelizations, toys, a couple of sewing machines. They've even had a collab with a tea shop this year.

For as many great shows have come and gone (like Owl House, The Ghost and Molly McGee or Moon Girl), some don't get much more than a selection of officially licensed t shirts, if anything at all these days. It feels kinda weird to see ML getting so many things that I just stumble upon something every few months when getting groceries.

Ur right about that, they are everpresent in children’s sections at stores

I do, however, resent their official merch store for being full of bougie designer products no one in their right minds would pay full price for

Plus, aside from the LB nendoroid I already have, the only things I’d be interested in buying ML-wise would be an art book and soundtrack but alas neither is available

i had arbitrarily decided today to get all the endings on needy girl overdose (even though ive already seen them all on youtube...) and looking at related stuff for fun (kinda want that nendoroid...) led me to find out by pure coincidence that KAngel (the fictional streamer from the game) was having some celebration/birthday livestream today because of game’s big sales.

even though I knew i wouldnt understand anything being said, i tuned in for fun just to see merch announcement, a funny 3d model doing a concert, and otherwise had nothing else to do with my phone while i was outside. And there was all that but i was taken aback at the random selection of guests who showed up to give a message to KAngel. Like...
