Sketching this artwork was hard. I had general idea how Nelliel would pose, but apart from that everything else was hard to do. I had to do several redoes, not to mention I didn’t have that clear idea what kind of clothes she would have. I did her top few times and bottom several times. At first, I wanted to go into sexier look with her, but it just didn’t feel right. Especially when I knew the general idea how I wanted her top to be. So, when I tried to make her bottom sexier, it just looked awkward. It didn’t fit the theme, so I kept sketching and sketching. I also did redo her hands few times, because I wasn’t sure how those should be. (The biggest ‘oof’ part was when I was already middle of shading this artwork, I realized her right hand’s fingers were off. So, I had to quickly make few changes to the original sketch just to be sure when I would digitally color her, it would actually work.)

My struggles didn’t end in there, because I wanted to this time add more shades here and there, instead doing cell-shading. Which drove me into a mental corner as I had very little time to work on this, so I would work 2 to 3 hours a day in each day a week. It made me feel pressure and zapped the joy of it, until I took a break and decided to take things in much calmer pace. After all, if I wasn’t feeling mentally good when coloring/shading, the artwork would turn out terrible.

The next dilemma was that I realized my shading technique was…well. I don’t make that big contrast between colors, which can leave the ending result somewhat flat looking. I realized I needed to add more contract, light and shade and more vibrant colors to make it more alive! I knew it could end up looking just horrible if I would let myself loose, but I wanted to at least try that all for once. I’m glad I did, since I like how the colors turned out. ^^

Making the background was somewhat easier -thankfully!

All in all, I’m very happy how this artwork and its sketch turned out, even though it took me over two months to complete this fully. I’m just happy I managed to make this for my bestie for his birthday. ^^ I hope he too and everybody else who sees this artwork, will like this~!

This Waifu Wednesday goes out to Nelliel Tu Odelschwanck from the anime Bleach!

Nell is one of my favorite characters from the Hueco Mundo arc of bleach. I love her design and think she’s super badass. I love how she cares so much for her brothers, Pesche and Dondochakka, how sweet and kind she is to them.

I felt so bad for her when Nnoitra and Szayelaporro ganged up against her and tried to kill her, and how they ripped off Pesche and Dondochakka’s masks to lure her into fighting…even when she didn’t like to fight, she still did so to protect and defend her brothers.

In turn they decided to protect her after she reverted to her child form. She had many happy years with them. Getting to play Eternal Tag and spend her days not fighting. It made my heart break to know that they did so much for her just to protect her and keep her from remembering the awful things that Nnoitra did. <3

I saw a promo photo of Grimmijow and Ulquiorra for the rock opera and hell...yeah...that's what the Arrancar uniforms should look like✨️

It finally started to match their Spanish vibe. That embroidery on their hakama, the pleats on their shirts, the braid on their sleeves and collar I'm just thrilled...

So draw and add a little from myself

I'm sure Nnoitra will have the chicest uniform with lace, Nelliel has a beautiful wool framing on her sleeves~

So I haven't read CFYOW and it turns out Grimmjow has no issue with Nel smacking him for being a jerk or throwing a bala at him for the same reason. Bro just lets it happen?? Also, Harribel tells him to come join her to eat.

What's wild Is Grimmjow is much much stronger now than in the Arrancar arc. Even Harribel admits she wouldn't fight him because she isn't sure how powerful he's gotten.

So this man just lets the ladies do whatever with him. Lmao.
