Happy (Late) Birthday, Caesar King!

(I might've forgotten to do the fic earlier, but Happy Birthday to the King! I also had to look up a dozen idioms for this.)

Caesar King loves her birthdays. To her, they symbolize the fact that she has survived another year of life and has a chance to keep celebrating her future.

Life in the Outer Ring was harsh, and many people had a hard time celebrating their birthdays because of the many dangers that come with living in the Outer Ring. Yet, Caesar had Big Daddy raising her to understand the beauty of life even in the harshest places, and Caesar took his teachings to heart.

Which is why she invited everyone she knows to join her in celebrating her birthday.

Well, almost everyone.

Caesar had forgotten to ask many of her new friends and allies for their addresses after the fight with that huge white Ethereal, and she was too shy to ask the Proxies for their addresses. So, Caesar just had her gang, the Cunning Hares, and the Proxies as her guests. Which was sad because Caesar really wanted to 'break her legs' and finally ask that fox Thiren to spar with her.

According to Nicole, the fox Thiren, Hoshimi Miyabi, was the youngest Void Hunter in New Eridu and had been training for most of her life to destroy the Hollows and bring peace to the city and people of New Eridu.

Caesar sympathized with Miyabi as Caesar herself was trained by Big Daddy as a young child to survive the Hollows while also one day becoming the main protector of her gang and the people of Blazewood from the dangers of the Hollows once Caesar was ready to lead the Sons of Calydon. Now, after the Tour de Inferno ultimately, and unfortunately, crowned her the new Overlord after Pompey's wrongful death at the hands of Lucius, Caesar had even more reasons to become stronger as she knew the fate of the Outer Ring rest in her hands and would fall if Caesar wasn't strong enough to protect her people.

Next time, Caesar will get Miyabi's address so they can spar and have the young Void Hunter say she's a strong leader, with Caesar having 'crocodile tears' in her eyes knowing that even a Void Hunter acknowledged her.

"Caesar!" Lucy cried, breaking Caesar's daydream. "You haven't miggled with the guests. I even see some of the Vanquishers here."

"The Vanquishers?" Caesar gasped.

"Don't worry, boss," Pulchar said as she approached the two. "I asked around, and all of them said they wanted to celebrate the new Overlord's birthday. Guess you guys truly buried the hatchet with them."

"Well, I hope we did," Caesar beamed. "The gangs of the Outer Ring need to understand that we are stronger together, especially since our enemies are going after us like 'shouting fire in a crowded area. '"

Pulchra rolled her eyes and left the two. She hoped one of these days, someone would be brave enough to give Caesar a crash course in the actual meanings of certain idioms. While she knows the education system of the Outer Ring is rather nonexistent compared to those living in New Eridu, even Pulcra knew her idoms, and she lived in the poorest parts of the Outer Ring!

As Pulchra left Caesar and Lucy, Lucy told Caesar that she needed to check on the food and the presents and left Caesar to try to mingle on her own. Caesar was mostly fine with mingling with people, but this birthday was different than her last ones. Back then, it was just Caesar and her gang and the people of Blazewood. Now, as she was looking over at the crowd, Caesar saw more than her usual guests; she saw new family members from the Cunning Hares talking about the crazy jobs they do in the city to the members of the Vanquishers. She sees the Proxies talking to Big Daddy and Lighter about current situations within New Eridu. She even sees Billy smiling and talking to Casa and Dorian without his signature Red Scarf, the garment now being worn by Lighter.

As if she was being moved by 'ghosts, ' Caesar walked toward Billy as he recalled how the Ethereals in the Hollows at New Eridu were different from the ones in New Eridu to Casa and Dorian. Soon, Casa noticed Caesar walking towards them and told Dorian that they needed to check with the other guests about the food they had prepared. While Dorian whined, the moment he saw Caesar, he immediately left with Casa to ask the rest of the guests about the food.

Billy noticed Caesar as soon as the two left and held out his arms to her. Caesar subconsciously hugged him as Billy patted her hair and hugged her tight.

"Another year, and you're already stronger," Billy cooed. "That's my Big Sis."

"Not, my 'Li'l Caesar?'" she asked.

"Did you forget how big you are now? You're not little anymore, Caesar, and everyone can finally see that. Look at what you've achieved now and tell me if you're still the little child I protected and gave my arm to all those years ago."

Caesar sighed and sobbed a bit. "I can't believe it either. I didn't think I'd actually become the Overlord now."

"Well, you are now. Make sure to make all the previous Overlords proud by protecting our beloved land, and if you ask me, even if your father was a cold man, I know he would be proud of his daughter's achievements."

Caesar let go of Billy as she smiled and went towards Big Daddy, Lighter, and the Proxies. She waved at Billy as she went to the group. Billy sighed in both happiness and defeat. His Caesar had grown so much in one year. Billy silently prayed that she would still be the bright and caring woman everyone knew her to be.

Caesar approached the four with a happy yell as she hugged Belle and gave Wise a high five.

"So glad you two made it!" she screamed.

"We wouldn't miss for the world," Belle said.

"You've been a great friend to us and helped us with many difficult subjects these past few months," Wise noted. "We would be crazy to miss your birthday."

"Well, you guys helped us with the Tour de Inferno," Caesar reminded them. "Even though it wasn't the win I wanted because of what happened, I'm glad we ended up being friends."

"Yeah, how are you holding up being the Overlord these days?" Belle asked. "I wanted to check in, but things got complicated in the city."

"We're doing just fine! Right, Lighter?"

"While there have been some hiccups concerning the other gangs," Lighter said. "Everyone here has finally seen that Caesar did deserve her title as Overlord because of her compassion and fairness towards both allies and rivals. So, yeah, we're good."

"It's a miracle that no one had pranked the party nor started a fight," Big Daddy added. "But, Lighter is right; people here had accepted Caesar as Overlord. Hopefully, they will understand that Caesar has everyone's best interest in mind in the future because the best way to fight those greedy people in the city is to unite as one team under the idea that the Outer Ring belongs to the people and not the corporations."

Caesar nodded. She still remembers Pompey's words to her as he slowly became corrupted by the Ether. Caesar would never forgive herself if she let Lucius and the Ether companies win and destroy the way of life of the Outer Ring. She vowed to protect her home as Pompey and the former Overlords had done before her.

"I promise I will unite the gangs, and I will never let those guys in the city destroy our home!" she proudly declared.

"I hope you do that," a gruff voice said behind her.

Caesar looked back as multiple members of the Vanquishers, led by Bellum and Andreas, started clapping.

"Lucius was a scumbag for what he did," Andreas said. "I know I had caused problems in the past, but I hope we do fight side by side one day to save our home, and to also avenge Pompey by finding those two."

"I went asking around and might be close to finding Mors," Bellum told her. "No sign of Lucius, but I will help you when I do find them."

"Thanks," Caesar bowed. "I might not be Pompey, and I know I'm still learning, but the fact is, everyone here understands how important the Outer Ring is for us. It's our home, and as Overlord, it is my duty to forever protect our home."

The Vanquishers started clapping harder, but it all died out once Piper blew Steeltusks' horn.

"I heard that the Overlord must now cut her cake," Piper declared. "That, or blow her candles if Pulchra can get Burnice to not burn the candles. Lucy texted."

Lighter immediately ran off to find the cake and make sure it did not get burned down by Burnice. Billy followed suit while screaming at the top of his mechanical lungs that Burnice better not burn her cake or else he's not giving Burnice a present once her birthday comes around.

"Your Champions really care about you," Anby said as she surprised the group by appearing out of nowhere. "I mean, I've seen Billy run fast before, but he doesn't usually threaten people like that."

"Billy helped raise Caesar, remember Anby?" Nicole said.

"Oh, right. No wonder he did that."

"I think it's sweet, meow," Nekomata chimed. "I used to have the same responses on my adoption day when I was still in the Red Fang Gang. Miguel hated people who made me cry on my birthday if they upset meow."

Big Daddy chortled as he told everyone to get to Cheesetopia to see if the cake had survived. As they all went inside, Casa and Dorian happily manifested a gorgeous two-tiered chocolate cake as Lighter and Billy held back Burnice. Burnice was arguing with them that she wanted to be the one who lights the candles, but relented when Billy growled at her to calm down. Burnice wasn't afraid of a lot of things, but Billy getting angry? She knew her limit and let Lighter light the candles with his lighter.

As everybody sang 'Happy Birthday' to Caesar, Caesar only had one wish for her birthday. To make sure that she would make everyone proud by protecting their home as Overlord of the Outer Ring. As soon as Lucy tells her to blow the candles, Caesar hurriedly blew her candles in one go and cheers as the candle smoke sends her wish to the sky.

Caesar King had survived one more year in her life. She will keep surviving for more years as long as she can protect the Outer Ring. That's all a birthday girl would ever ask for.
