Horror Writing
Grammar Errors
Comedy ---- Summary ----
The first years of Jujutsu Tokyo High are having a movie night. They were watching a found footage horror film. While the teens are enjoying the movie while making a few comments. The two cursed spirits, Sukuna and Kinie Ger were thinking otherise.
----
On the weekend, the first-year students of Tokyo Jujutsu High are having a movie night in their lounge residence hall. They planned this fora. while as they want to have fun and take a break from their missions. Their movie. A horror so they can laugh and point the inaccuracies when it comes to spirits due to their line of work. The movie that the studnets were watching is a horror movie. Incantation. A story about a woman and daughter who got cursed due to the taboo that was broken. It's on Netflix. It was interesting and entertaining so the group can tear apart the movie and its absurdity. The students were impressed by the movie so far as it relates to them some way given that they're jujutsu sorcerers.
The footage of a creepy hand reaching out to the girl. The death of old woman. And many more.
However....
Sukuna and Kinie Ger see this movie as a threat. They were seeing scenes that were disturbing and fascinating, they did not say anything as they were glued to the movie.
Of course, they know some movies are fake given special side effects. But when it comes to found footage horror movies, they believe it to be real! So real, they ask questions that nobody didn't mind until it is slowly develops to the point where they become alarmed.
"Wait...so this village worships Mother Buddha?" Sukuna asked, opening a red eye on one of Yuji's slits.
"Uh yeah...you know about something, Sukuna?" Yuji asked. "No. But the idea of giving your name to a being like that sounds like a Special Grade Curse that is disguised as this 'Mother Buddha.' A blessing like that is some sort of curse." Sukuna informs them. "People think of this being as Kali but Kali doesn't curse people so it's a trick. The chanting must be some way of worshipping it."
"Huh."
The movie continues to show the so-called paranormal investigators go do some investigating and the main character named Ronan talks with the girl. They feed a frog with a lock of hair. The frogs were in the box letting out disturbing growls. Then things took a creepy turn where the heads of the baby statues were turned and the girl forced Ronan; 's head before praying a chant.
"Okay. Time to leave the village..." Kinie Ger said. But the movie shows that the next night, they went to a place where they found a little girl covered in runes. Sukuna and Kinie continue to watch this until one of the fools wants to see what the sealed tunnel is about.
They can't serious, right?!
Eito hoots while Kisho passes some popcorn to the bird as the two watch this. And then Yuan, one of the three paranormal investigators breaks the door tunnel in.
"Wait, wait, wait! What is he doing?!" Kinie asked out of Taz's head. Taz answers, "He's breaking in." And then once the tunnel door is broken into. Slience befells the students and the two curses as they heard a baby crying and some disembodied voices.
Yuan is saying something stupid by going inside and check it out.
"Is he for real?" Sukuna asked. Yuji hushs him. Yuan and Dom entered the tunnel while the woman named Ronan stayed.
"Those guys are going to die." Nobara commented, eating some popcorn. And Nobara was right. Dom was dead while Yuan is out of there, screaming his head off. Ronan got slapped.
"Good! She deserves that!" Kinie Ger yelled. But things got hetic. The village fall into an eerie disarray. First, a body being burned and the village residents were now praying while some of them are bare naked but wearing their underwear as their bodies are in runes.
"What the hell?" Kisho said.
"They either protect themselves and try to appease the curse. Looks like it's not working." Then Yuan attacks the main character in a frenzy before Yuan losing its teeth before leaving and soon, Yuan dies in most creepisest way.
"That was really creepy." Megumi admitted, sipping a soda. The scene was taped
---- The car scene ----
"Wait...I just realized the doctor who checked the camera is dead." Kisho notes. The banging of the car continues making the teens scared and the curses stunned.
"Oh yeah...that curse is messing with them alright." Sukuna commented.
"And the mantra worked," Megumi said.
"Wow. This feels so real like...I can't imagine people who can't see curses have to experience that." Yuji commented. "You know? I'm glad I can see them so I can beat them up." Noabara commented.
"It must be so scary for non-sorcerers not to understand what's going on." Taz said, feeling bad for the mom.
"Hm." Megumi said.
"Same." Kisho said.
"What?! What are you two talking about? This is real!" Sukuna said. The teens blinked at what Sukuna but didn't say anything. The movies continues to where the mother seeks a couple at a temple to perform a ritual to get rid of the curse. Placing parchements on the cursed camcorder and gives a leaf to the daughter. It looks like it would be resolved. However, to make it work is that the daughter; Dodo must not eat the next seven days.
"Can that work?" Taz asked.
"Yes but sometimes it's difficult..." Megumi said. "It does sound very difficult to get rid if you can't eat for seven days..." Miko said.
"Well I know that woman is going to mess that up!" Kinie added. The mother tried to help Dodo during these seven days. She tried the to adminster the drip and where the daughter is malnourished, the doctor can't prescribe her anything unless Dodo eats something.
"Jeez...third day..." Yuji siad.
"She has blisters...dude..." Kisho said, feeling bad for the little girl. Miko holds Kisho's hand making the boy blush but keeps her close to him.
And like Kinie said, the mother messed up and decided to feed her pineapple. Hence, getting rid of the curse went out the window. Meanwhile, one of the supporting characters was trying to figure out the curse. Sukuna watches this, "That man is now cursed from trying to understand the video. Although he is correct, this is modified version of the Bafangtian gesture. It's supposed to collect blessing so the opposite is.."
"Curses?" Kisho asked.
"Mhmm..." Sukuna answered.
"That's the opposite of blessings." Megumi added. "If it's to spread the curse?" Megumi hums.
"That does make sense..." Miko said, repeating to back to the Mountain Curse. "But why would they want to spread it?"
"We gotta watch and see. This movie is really good." Nobara asked. "Not a bad pick, Yuji."
"Thanks!"
"How is this good?! Someone is dying..." Kinie Get points this out.
"At least, he went to the Tanaric Temple so that's smart to figure out what the curse is." Sukuna said. And then the supporting character, Ming finds out the information from the Yunnan monk and forwards the video but the cursed footage of the tunnel would not be sent. However it is too late, the curse claims another victim.
"Damn! That was brutal!" Nobara said, wincing at the death of Ming.
"The curse possessed people like that. Is that how curses get people?" Yuria aid, looking disturbed.
"Yes." Megumi sighed.
"It's how they get them, brat." Sukuna said. The next scene comes back to the mother and daughter where the daughter is getting hive-like lesions which makes the students gross out and worry for the girl. But upon coming back to the temple, the priest is killed and they saw the wife facing the door, and ask if the mother let the child eat. The young sorcerers were nervous but didn't say anything as the woman kept talking, telling the girl that her own mother is going to offer her to the gods. Then the woman went through her own hair, tugging it as blood spews from her head. The teens were grossed out but they couldn't look away. Sukuna and Kinie were watching this in pure amusement. Then they get a jumpscare of the possessed dead wife scaring everyone.
"AAHAA!" The teens cried out as popcorn is thrown everywhere. The teens can't believe it. "Oh god! The kid is in the air!" Nobara cried before the girl was brought down onto the ground with a hard thud.
"Oh that's gonna hurt!"
"This is why you gotta follow instructions!!" Sukuna commented. "The mother should of followed what the shaman says and be committed to it. So now she killed two people with her idiocy!"
"Oh come on, Sukuna. Her daughter is suffering!"
"Now she's suffering more since she broke the spell!" Sukuna said. The movie continues where the mother takes the daughter to the hospital where she's stabilized but it's far from the good and the mother needs to be prepared for the worst. And what happens next is that Dodo is now walking in the hospital as if she is being escorted by someone holding its hand.
"That must be the curse!" Kisho said, "Curses don't show up on CCTV only camcorders where it's imbued with curse energy." Kisho said. The CCTV footages continues where the daughter, Dodo finds a naked girl with runes on her body.
"Do you think it's the girl from the village?" Miko said.
"Looks like it?"
Then it continues to where the mother goes to the girl with runed body. They see her get a knife and she goes to cut off her ear. And the mother explains of how they broke violated the taboo six years ago.
This is where Sukuna got upset when tunnel footage starts to paly.
------
"Oh my fucking god..."
"Sukuna...calm down, it's not..."
"Don't tell me to calm down and it's not that bad, brat! What the fuck are they doing?! They went inside the tunnel and start messing with things. Look at them. They're touching shit! They're pissing off the curse!!" Sukuna points this out. Meanwhile...Nobara tries her best to not laugh, seeing how Sukuna is freaking out. Yuria covers her mouth, trying not to laugh. While Miko and Megumi is sweatdropping.
"Sukuna. It's just a movie." Kisho said.
"IT'S TOO REAL TO BE MOVIE! LOOK AT THIS! They disturb the ritual items on the table and tear parchments seals to get inside! Am I'm the only one who think this is serious?! They still heard the weird voice and still kept going? Look at this shit! They cut through the bindings."
"I think it's part of going to solve the curse." Kisho.
"HOW DO YOU SOLVE A CURSE! THEY CAN'T SEE SHIT!!" Sukuna said.
"So what's up with the mirrors?" Yuria asked.
"Mirrors are used to confuse the spirits if they make a tunnel like this. Back to the ceiling mural, this Mother Buddha likes items that is decipted to keep her at bay. As for that door with the characters on it, it seems to be barrier to keep the curse from escaping and keep it at its place. If I have to guess, there has to be cursed object or sorts."
"That makes sense but wait...those brothers..."
"They are undoing the everything what the Chen clan set up..." Said Megumi with a pinch of his nose. The boys continue on.
"And they keep going and they moved THE MIRROR?!" Sukuna said, "I swear to Buddha, these two idiots!"
"Sukuna. Calm down!"
"What about the baby statues?" Miko asked.
"Also the same thing...the Mother Buddha's mural did have her holding kids. So they want to take the flesh of children in order to bless the family so it also acts as another part of the barrier. Barriers would be up using talismans and such. The ribbons, the ritualistic items, the mirrors, and statues are part of a complex barrier but simple to do."
And then the movie where the boys came to a statue. Or a throne of the statue. It had that reverse blessing gesture.
"That's gotta be it," Yuria muttered. "Look at that thing. That's the Mother Buddha statue."
"Yeah, it had everything from the mural but it has caterpillars in the bowl. Although it has red veil over it." Kisho said.
"A ceremonial sheet." Megumi added. "It's protecting its face."
"Hold up...you don't think they're going to lift the viel, do you??" Nobara asked.
More sounds are echoing in the tunnel, all around the tunnel.
"It sounds like it came from the statue..." Miko shivered a little.
"Oh god...that dumbass is going to do it, isn't he?" Sukuna uttered, running through his hair. Are these humans this stupid?! These guys are worse than the ghost hunters. Once the man named Dom uncovers the viel but it is not seen on the camera, only recording his back. It seems Dom sees it but straightens his back as if his demeanor has changed. The teens hold their breath, knowing that Dom has been possessed.
As the poor clueless man named Yuan calls out his name.
"Dom? Dom?" Yuan asked.
Then the other yells out, "What's my name?!"
"Don't say his name..." Sukuna muttered.
Chen Li-tung!
"Fucking dumbass..." Sukuna said. And shit hits the fan as Dom became possessed and things became chaotic. Numerous ghastly arms reached out from the walls towards the boys as the mirrors fell and shattered on impact. A swarm of bugs was unleashed and amidst the chaos, the boys were separated. Yuji is slient with his eyes widen. Nobara is sipping more soda while Kisho and Miko were holding hands.
The camera became distorted but then camera turned on in night vision mode. Then they see Dom bashing his head against the wall and what happens next when Dom turns his head at Yuan. The teens screamed...well most likely, Kisho, Yuji and the girls. Megumi winces but he did jump from the fright. Sukuna twitched an eye while Kinie is now in tuned with this movie with a 'wow'
"So that's what happened." Kinie Ger noted.
"This wouldn't happened if they didn't mess with the barrier!" Sukuna groans. "Why are humans this stupid?"
"Oh come on! Maybe there's a way to break the curse!" Said Yuji. As the movie cuts back to the mother explaining her guilt as she loves her daughter and asks for forgiveness along as she won't hurt her. She wants her daughter to promise her to forget her name and forget her own mother.
"Is she going to...." Miko widens her eyes.
"She is going to sacrifice herself...." Sukuna uttered, finished everyone's thoughts. The group watched the mother went back to the village house where she enters the tunnel and proceeds to put things in place while breaking some of the mirrors.
"She's either provoking the curse or drawing it out." Megumi said.
"And it's working..." Nobara said, seeing the leisons transfers of the mother's arm. Now the mother approaches the Mother Buddha statue, not before doing the hand gesture and ask the viewers if they remember the incantation.
"I am not going to remember this. Count me out!"
"That's hard not to remember. Heck! I will do it to save her daughter." Kisho said. Miko goes to hum with the tune when the scene of inciting incarnation is on as they see words under the Japanese words.
"Uhh..." Yuji said, seeing the incarnation and begins to mouth the words. "Brat! You better not recite this incantation. I swear..."
"I'm not!" Yuji said but his mind is chanting. Huo-ho-xiu-yi-
"BRAT!"
"I'm not saying it out loud!" Yuji cried. Si-Sei-Wu-Ma
"BUT YOU WERE THINKING IT! STOP THAT OR ELSE WE WILL BE CURSED, YOU DUMBASS!"
"IT'S JUST A MOVIE!" Yuji cried. "A FOUND FOOTAGE! SO IT'S REAL! SO KNOCK IT OFF!" Sukuna said. Yuji pauses as he didn't understand what Sukuna's problem right now, "Sukuna! A found footage is..."
"YES! A FOUND FOOTAGE IS WHAT YOU TOLD ME! It's footage that is found and shows what happened before it is found. So it's real life, yes?! So this footage is cursed so you reciting the incantation is going to get everyone cursed and I will not waste my time fighting a goddamn imposter curse who thinks it's' Mother Buddha in some foreign land!" Sukuna barked.
"Wait..Sukuna. You actually think found footage is real?" Megumi said.
"Isn't that what the term 'found footage' means?!" Sukuna asked annoyed. Taz sweatdrops as she also hears the same comments from Kinie Ger and she even gives her crap.
And then it is revealed that mother tricked all of the viewers and the main character apologizes to them while the Yunnan monk explains that the incaiton is a not blessing. "WHAT DID I SAY?!" "Pup, You recited the curse, didn't you?" Kinie Ger growls, asking Taz who is sweating a bit.
"I mean-!" Taz tries to explain before she winces. YOU IDIOT! Kinie Ger yelled at her. "I'm SORRY! It's stuck in my head!!" Taz cried.
"Oh damn. Guess I'm cursed too." Kisho said.
"Same..." Yuria said. "So wait...we're all sharing the curse??"
"It sounds like a pyramid scheme of curses..." Nobara said. "But hold on! He said that if more people bearing the curse, the diluted it becomes? Then that means...." Miko trails off. "The curse won't be as dangerous. It will be lightened and it is just as minor bad luck." Megumi said. "But if you learn about it, the deeper the effects it would have on you." "Wow! Who knew this movie knows about curses that much." Kisho grinned. "All of you..." Kinie Ger begins, "We need to shut this film now."
"Huh?! It's getting good! It's almost over!" Nobara exclaimed.
"WE'RE ALL CURSED, YOU IDIOTS! WHAT IS WRONG WITH YOU?!" Sukuna yelled, "That damn woman lied to us and tricked us!"
"Sukuna. The curse won't have any effect on us...." Megumi sighed. Sukuna growls, "Oh sure! It doesn't have any effect on non-sorcerers! But w'ere sorcerers and we have cursed energy so the curse is going to effect us!! WAIT! IS THAT WOMAN GOING TO UNCOVER IT! SHUT IT DOWN! PAUSE IT!"
And the Mother Buddha's face is unveiled revealing a crystal chasm of darkness with no end at sight. The teens gasped, they expected something demonic but it has no face. Just a hole of darkness of dark crystals in a spiral at the edges.
The camera glitches and shows the mother bashed her head before the camera glitches. Then the transition slowly switches to the daughter being healthy and well. Thus, the movie ends with the credits rolled in. "Wow! That was best movie ever!" Yuji said.
"Right?! I thought it was real for a moment!" Kisho said as Miko and Yuria nods in agreement. Nobara nods eagerly, "I almost thought the curse was real!"
"It was so scary. I was about to scream when the woman came out at us." Taz said while Yuji laughs, patting her head.
"I got to admit, it's pretty creepy." Megumi said.
But the person who is more freaked out as he doesn't want to admit it was....
"Why are you guys laughing about?! Am I'm the one who thinks this is real?"
"Um...Sukuna..."
"The King is right. I do not like this curse! We have to find it and kill it!"
"Uhhh..." Kisho looks dumbfounded. Did these two not know?!
"You two...it's a found footage film, it's not-" Megumi begins to explain this.
"It is real and we're now cursed if we don't do something!" Sukuna barked. The group are now wondering. Do they actually think this movie is real?!
"Wait...you think the curse is real? For reals?" Nobara said. Sukuna replies, "Yes. I can read Tantric scriptures very much and the characters are very real! So stop being morons and figure out where this curse is."
"And???"
"That means we gotta find that village!"
"Sukuna! It's a movie! It's not real! What are you freaking out for?" Yuji asked. Sukuna groans, "I'm not freaking out for shit! You're the ones not taking this seriously!"
"The King is right! We must kill this Buddha Curse!"
"It's not real! It's a movie!" Yuji argued.
"Okay so everything we saw isn't real?!" Sukuna said. "Yes?" Yuria said.
"Mister Sukuna, it's..."
"Dude, you make it sound like you're scared of this curse." Siad Kisho which are the very wrong words to say. Sukuna snaps, "I'm not scared of anything! If anything, you're the dumbass who recited the incantation as well!"
"I thought it was a prayer to"
"The woman lied to us on camera!" Kinie Ger said. "We hardly believe that this is a movie. Remember when those ghost hunters almost unleash a calamity by tearing those seals from that damn hotel."
"Oh my god..." Megumi said as he didn't to remind him of that mission. Taz was embarrassed by that memory. Her first mission.
"Ghost hunters?" Kisho blinked.
"We will tell you later," Nobara tells him. Megumi sighs, "Kinie and Sukuna, if it's the film is true. Teh curse is already diluted thanks to the character's plan so it won't have any effect on us."
"Doesn't matter! Ask the Six-Eyes on that found footage." "Can we do it tomorrow???" Yuji whined.
"NO!"
The teens groaned and Taz managed to calm them down that they can talk to Gojo tomorrow morning.
-------- Tomorrow Morning ------
Taz and Yuji didn't get enough sleep because their cursed spirits' worries didn't get them a good sleep. Nobara, Megumi and Kisho were sweatdropping seeing their bags under their eyes.
"Soooo....wait...Sukuna and Kinie think found footage films are real? For real?" Gojo asked with a smile.
"Uh-huh," Yuji said.
"Yep," Taz said.
"Sukuna thinks the movie we watch is real because it involves a curse in Taiwan..."
"What was the curse and what movie?"
"Incantation." They all said.
"Mother Buddha!" Sukuna's mouth appears on Yuji's cheek. Gojo blinked, "Wait....I think I remember seeing that movie before!" He said.
"Okay?"
"It was inspired by real events so it is real."
"HA! YOU SEE?!" "The case was already solved by a jujutsu sorcerer though. Didn't I tell you all this in class?" Gojo chuckles making Sukuna and Kinie. "Wait so it is real?" Nobara stared. Gojo nods, "Most of it, the Chen family, the ghostbusting guys, the mother, and the daughter. The daughter has been adopted by a sorcerer to keep tabs on the curse. But who knows it's GREATLY exaggerated. The Yunnan Monk was real though. There is a camcorder but it is been placed in a shrine under the protection of a talisman and parchment. We also set up a curtain around the 'Chen' family so nobody will enter the tunnel again. But who knows! This script must be written by a retired jujutsu sorcerer who is having funsies at everyone's expense!" He snickers.
"This is not a joke! Are we supposed to do something about the Buddha Curse or not?" Sukuna grumbled.
"To clarify, the so-called Mother Buddha curse was just an old curse that is the ancestors of so-called 'Chen' family and the chant isn't real but close to it. Plus the curse was weakened over time thanks to the mother who diluted the curse's power through the caring of sharing despite not being a sorcerer. It's a smart way and I guess the sorcerer wanted to make a story out of that!"
"Soooo that does mean...we got nothing to worry about?" Kisho said.
"Yes! Therefore, Sukuna and Kinie have no need to panic."
"WE'RE NOT PANICKING!" They both shouted making Taz and Yuji sigh.
"Oh, come on! It's okay! You seem a little scared from that movie! It's fine. It's not like you would know the difference between fiction and reality!" Gojo grins while Kinie Ger and Sukuna look ready to strangle him. The words 'scared' is not in their vocabulary. After all, found footage films are a great medium if you do it right! The movie you watch is pretty good. If you want to watch more, check out Paranormal Activity!" Gojo said.
"Please don't....sensei!' Taz and Yuji said, wanting some good night's sleep.
"Paranormal Activity?" Sukuna questioned.
"Or Hell House!" Gojo-sensei smiles. "That way you can tell what's real and what's not!" He smiles.
"Ugh....why me?" Megumi said, pinching his nose while Kisho patted his back as a way to comfort him. Nobara snickers, "You know...seeing their freakouts sounds pretty funny." She whispered to the two.
"Yeah but still...." Kisho said while Yuji and Taz asked for a day off so they can sleep in a little more. Gojo-sensei approves it while assuring the curses there is no need to be concerned.
And thus, Kisho and Nobara took the two back to campus so they can sleep in more. Leaving Megumi with Gojo-sensei at the teachers' lounge.
"So is it really true?" Megumi said.
"About?" Gojo muses.
"The curse."
"More or less. But it is based on a true story, you know how movies go. They upped it a little to spook people. I was spooked a little about this Mother Buddha. It's hard to believe it's real. Though the curse went by a different name that case is long solved. The film is similar to the real footage but nobody saw it or so I heard! By the way, you really need to get those two, Sukuna and Kinie to watch more horror-found footage films. Seeing them freak out about it is pretty funny!"
"Is that why you mentioned those other titles?"
"Of course! Though none of them are my favorites! But the last paranormal activity: Last of Kin might freak them out. Although, the Blair Witch Project is pretty scary and so is that Gonjamin: Haunted Asylum one are my favorite ones." Gojo snickered. "Right. Let's hope those two never seen those movies." Megumi sweatdropped. And with that, Sukuna and Kinie Ger's freakouts were funny to behold but can be taxing for the two vessels. So scary movies without the found footages genre is much better.
Although...Sukuna is interested in them. To be continued.

Okay so my sister is trying out apple tv right now, which means I am binging all Fraggle Rock content on there as fast as I can.
They don't have the animated series though (which yes, this puppet show got an animated spin off).
So right now I'm watching what I can of that on Youtube because I don't know which streaming service has it (if one does have it), but I first discovered it on Neflix like 10+ years ago, but I don't think they ahve it anymore.
My mom bought one of the old Fraggle Rock dvd sets when I was a kid, so she could introduce me to it. Because Fraggle Rock was her Jim Henson puppet show of choice when she was a kid, vs any of his other works.
This post isn't really about that though, it's about how all the characters are slightly different in the different versions of the show.
For example Boober (though my favorite consistently in all of the shows) has variations in how exactly he's a downer.
Like he's always "a downer" but what exactly being a downer is seems to be different.
In the original he's just openly extremely anxious and paranoid, and suppresses his desire for fun and chaos to the point that he manifested a split personality. Sidebottom, who loves games and jokes and is the fraggle definition of life of the party, but is also totally down to just lie to get out of doing stuff he doesn't want to, or imprison people in the name of having a good time.
In the new series while Boober is still anxious and kind of grumpy he isn't constantly on the brink of spiraling and desperately clinging to random superstitions the way he was in the original. Like it seems he somewhat enjoys being miserable, vs him just kind of seeing it as inevitable because he was just that paranoid about things going wrong.
In the animated series he's no where near as anxious and paranoid as he is in the original, and isn't even all that grumpy. Though admittedly I only restarted my first rewatch of it in 10+ years, and I've only gotten through a couple episodes. But while he does get moody he's far more likely to explode into anger than into depressed wailing.
Though that's admittedly fair, considering in one episode he's just trying to do his job (cleaning laundry and delivering it back to where it needs to go), people keep cutting infront of his laundry cart, slowing him down. Or worse dirtying the clean laundry by actually running into him and upending the cart, or splashing a bunch of water onto the laundry cart. Meaning he has to go back and re-clean all the clothes he'd already washed and had been on his way to deliver.
And when he tells the others to at least watch where they're going, they all just go "complaining again Boober?" like he doesn't have the right to be upset when he has to go back and re-wash the same load of laundry 3 times in one day, when he's just trying to do his job.
So the fact that he seems more prone to angry outbursts rather than depressive/panicked ones could definitely just be the result that his friend group are kind of oblivious jerks in the animated series.
So yeah if you see me posting about Fraggle Rock, or the new series, or the animated series, or anything else Fraggle related it's because I'm binging a lot of fraggle content lol.

ℌ𝔢𝔵 𝔞𝔫𝔡 ℌ𝔢𝔵𝔞𝔟𝔦𝔩𝔦𝔱𝔶 𝔟𝔶 𝔎𝔞𝔱𝔢 𝔍𝔬𝔥𝔫𝔰𝔬𝔫 | ℜ𝔢𝔳𝔦𝔢𝔴
Rating: ★★.5
After reading Hex and the City, which is what I like to call a cotton candy novel (very sweet, lacking substance, but enjoyable), I immediately pre-ordered Hex and Hexability when it was marketed as including some of my favourite things: witches, regency romance, pirates, and even a titular nod to one of my favourite authors. However, to my great disappointment, this novel unfortunately fell flat in almost every way.
Tumblr media
At the risk of sounding like a thesis supervisor, this novel tried to do too many things, while simultaneously not doing enough. It is somehow overly reliant on its marketing’s buzzwords, while not living up to its promise in the blurb.
Please note that this is not a rant review, but rather just a blunt and subjective collection of my thoughts on a book I thought had magnificent potential, which is why I am so impassioned, or should I rather say, dispassioned.
While we’ve seen a revival in the regency romance genre thanks to juggernauts, such as: Neflix’s highly successful Bridgerton, based on the books by Julia Quinn, there has consequently been a rise in both this genre’s popularity and publication. However, from what I’ve read of Johnson, and that has only been one other novel, she seems to be more at home within the contemporary witchy rom-com sub-genre. Unfortunately, when you include a big name, such as: Bridgerton in your marketing, the parallels draw themselves.
While reading Hex and Hexability, it felt as if the novel was using the first season of Bridgerton’s plot as a foundation rather than inspiration. As a result, the plot relied heavily on the reader’s assumed knowledge or familiarity with the Bridgerton series as a backdrop, while sporadic world building just unnecessarily complicated an already underdeveloped and unfocused plot. Furthermore, the characters suffered the same fate, coming off as caricatures of Austen and (quite interestingly) India Holton’s characters from her Dangerous Damsels series. If you are looking for a fun piratic and witchy intersection in regency romance, I would highly recommend this series instead.
Lastly, as my research focuses on women and witches, it was the inclusion of the latter that led me to Johnson’s books in the first place. I hesitate to compare this novel too much to Johnson’s Hex and the City, but at the same time, it allows me to see the author’s work in a better light. While the depiction of witches and witchcraft in Hex and Hexability is similar to that in Hex and the City, it is far less pronounced and fleshed out. If this novel was not also part of the Better Than Hex series, which all have witchy female protagonists, I would have wondered whether the inclusion of witches and witchcraft was just another buzzword used in its marketing to appeal to those, like myself, who are great enthusiasts of the budding witch lit genre.
Alas, as I try to forget just how many times the word “bosom” was used in this novel, and almost (very ironically) became the poor main character’s entire personality, I will give Johnson one more try should the premise of the first novel in the series Appeal to me.
[Update: After reading other reviews on GoodReads, I have been reminded of a rape joke told by Billie in Chapter 4, which my brain most probably blocked out in attempted self-preservation. Consequently, I have lowered my rating to one star.]

4 REASONS TO WATCH KDRAMAS ?
Tumblr media
Welcome to you, who clicked by chance or intentionally on this article.
Yes, it was written for you…AND only for you! You, who don't know what you're missing, by still resisting the call of discovering your first kdrama. You who, however, have heard or are hearing about dramas, but still have hesitations, to take the plunge and join us, the great team of cool kdramafans ? ^^
Because here… I'm thinking of your cultural openness, for your personal enrichment (first), but also to be able to show off to your colleagues at coffee break time, by becoming the hype colleague, who knows the dramas to absolutely see, AND who can even, during the lunch break, add a few Korean words here and there. So out of the kindness of my heart and care for your office social life, I'm going to give you 4 reasons why to watch your first kdrama, after reading this ;-)
“First what means kdrama, brief definition?!” However, let's not skip ahead, let's go slowly and surely…what means kdramas?! Quick minute culture and definition in brief, what is a korean drama abbreviated kdrama? Korean for Korea and Drama for local TV series. Dramas in Hangeul deurama 한국드라마, are TV series generally made up of one season, with 16 to 20 episodes, lasting one hour on average, however certain dramas, particularly historical ones, can display up to 50 episodes or more and some kdramas, if successful, it can go up to a 2nd season. There are different styles: fiction, biopics, detectives, horror, melodramas, comedies and romances etc. The themes addressed are generally love, family or friendship…in a context of personal drama, opposition and social inequalities, concentration of wealth, etc. Crude violence and sexuality are generally very limited there.
“4 reasons to watch kdramas?” Now that we've defined the genre, let's get to the heart of our subject…why watch your first drama? Or more precisely, 4 reasons why you should get started today?
"A phenomenon that has conquered the world" In the fall of 2021, the television series Squid Game, broadcast on Netflix, became a global phenomenon and the “Korean wave” also called Hallyu also won over French spectators, according to Le Monde. The number of views of “Squid Game” on the Neflix platform has far exceeded the 100 million household mark in 83 countries, according to the Yonhap news agency. What's more, according to streaming analytics company FlixPatrol, three Korean TV series were in the top 10 most-watched TV shows in the world with "Squid Game" at the top, ahead of "My Name" (4th) and "Hometown Cha-Cha-Cha” (7th). 34 Korean series were released in 2023, on Netflix alone according to jejudo and you can also find among the catalog of French TNT W9 channels, kdramas… that's the degree of impact! What am I trying to tell you, with this list of shocking facts and figures?! ^^ I don't believe that so many people in the world can have crappy tastes. SO…you have to try it and form your own opinion!
"Opening up to a new culture" Fiction is often a reflection of society! Also the dramas will allow you to enrich yourself by discovering the culture of South Korea, the way of life, the traditions, the food, the music but also interpersonal relationships.
"The discovery and/or learning of a new language" For my part, I didn't think I would be so seduced by the beauty of the Korean language, to the point of wanting to learn it (in turtle mode)… I really loved the sounds, the rhythm, the intonations, etc. And who knows, maybe you might like it too? And if you wonder what the point is in discovering or learning this language? This is just my opinion, but when such a “wave” occurs in the world, it allows for openings in terms of professional opportunities. Also becoming familiar with hangeul can be an investment for your professional future 😉
“Drama therapy” I discovered dramas at a very complicated time in my life, where I frankly needed to be encouraged and re-boosted and one of the dramas which played this role and which for me, is now among the dramas of all time…is Itaewon Class. Whether you want to be encouraged, or inspired, or you feel the need to laugh out loud, escape or why not cry your eyes out with your favorite tub of ice cream, dramas can be consumed as a type of emotional therapy.
Thanks for reading me ! Tell me what you think ^^ In the next article, I'll give you a little guide to get you started and get an overall idea of the different kdramas that exist.
Take care of yourself, cheers! bulsajo @onceuponatimethedrama

The One Piece Live Action Can Help With Your Writing
Tumblr media
I watched the new Netflix series called One Piece over the Labor Day weekend. I recommend it if you’re looking for both humor and drama. Being a pirate-themed show, One Piece has a lot of swashbuckling fun.
Monkey D. Luffa wants the One Piece, a treasure hidden by the executed pirate Gol D. Roger. He begins his heist adventure by recruiting his pirate crew and trying to get a ship. Unfortunately, many other more established pirates also want the One Piece and see Luffy as an annoying obstacle to deal with.
But Luffy is now my hero. He doesn’t want to be a pirate; he knows he is a pirate. And ultimately, he intends to become “King of the Pirates.”
About One Piece:
One Piece is based on Japan’s highest-selling manga series in history by Eiichiro Oda. Its first incarnation was as a manga comic book started in 1997 and still runs to this day. The anime cartoon series of the same name began in 1999. Neflix released the first season of the One Piece live action series in August of 2023. This latest version of the pirate story was developed by Matt Owens and Steve Maeda.
As I watched the 10-episode series, I kept thinking about how the writers of the show employed some great storytelling devices. Fiction writers can employ these techniques in their own projects. I made a list of some of the fiction elements that stuck out to me. Be warned, SPOILERS AHEAD.
Tumblr media
Character goals
This is pretty basic fiction writing knowledge. But One Piece made it clear that every character had a goal, not just the protagonist. We know from the beginning every pirate wants the One Piece. Specifically, Monkey D. Luffy wants to be King of the Pirates. But what about the other supporting characters?
Swordsman Roronoa Zoro wants to be the best swordsman in the land. Nami wants to raise enough money to free her village from an evil pirate. Koby wants to be in the Marines. Usopp wants his pirate father to return. Sanjii wants to be a gourmet chef. I felt every character, no matter how minor, had a goal.
The lesson is this: make the goals of the characters clear to the reader, and have goals for every character, not just the protagonist.
Precedent for an action
An action for a character shouldn’t just come out of the blue. Throughout the entire season, Garp, a Marine Vice Admiral, tries to prevent Luffy, his grandson, from becoming a pirate. He would rather Luffy be a marine.
But in the last episode, when Garp and Luffy finally confront each other face-to-face, Garp pushes Luffy to his limits. Luffy absolutely refuses to relent and tells his grandfather he can’t stop him from being a pirate because he already is one.  The admiral relents and says he just wanted to test Luffy to see if he really wants to be a pirate.
I can accept this seemingly sudden change of heart because in an earlier episode, Garp’s method of testing people to see if they really want something had been established. When Koby becomes a marine, he is questioned by Garp. The admiral looks at the small young man and questions whether Koby has what it takes. When he is convinced Koby is determined to be a marine, Garp begins mentoring him.
Garp’s method of pushing someone to their limits is established early on so his actions are believable in the final episode. By testing Koby in the beginning of the story, his testing of Luffy doesn’t seem so random.
The lesson is this: the writer can present a character’s personality in a small way at the beginning of the story so that it makes more sense later when it comes out in a bigger way.
Tumblr media
Withholding info
By not telling the reader the why of what’s going on, the writer creates suspense. Throughout each episode, the characters act in certain ways, but the audience doesn’t know why. Why does Zoro have to have his sword with him everywhere he goes? Why does Nami want to leave the crew? The reasons for these actions aren’t revealed at first. As a result the audience–or the readers–are kept in suspense.
The writing lesson is this: create intrigue and tension; don’t explain the “why” right away. Which leads us directly to . . .
Backstory informs motivation
Why are the characters acting the way they are? By withholding info, suspense is created. But the answers are slowly revealed and the overall story begins to be unpeeled layer by layer like an onion. Yes, One Piece reveals the backstory of each of the main characters throughout the series. The result not only answers questions, but gives the series more depth.
Luffy’s whole perspective on life comes from Shanks, a pirate who befriended Luffy when he was a child. Throughout the episodes, Luffy claims to be “a different kind of pirate.” He got this from the examples Shanks demonstrated. Luffy yells “no one threatens my friends.” In one flashback, Shanks yells this to a pirate who his attacking young Luffy. Luffy’s backstory slowly reveals why he says what he says and does what he does.
I loved how Nami’s backstory gradually changed my perspective of her character. In the beginning, I thought she was just a typical street orphan who grew up stealing just to survive. But no. In the last few episodes, we get more and more of her backstory and we find out she steals because she’s trying to pay off a ransom.
A pirate named Arlong and his crew have held the people of her village hostage since Nami was a girl. The people serve as slaves for Arlong and pay large sums of money to him. Until it is revealed Nami steals to raise the ransom to free her people, the audience isn’t sure if she is a good guy or not. Finally there is an “A-ha” moment when we understand why she steals, why she needs to leave her new-found friends.
When Nami befriends a young woman named Kaya, Nami shows uncharacteristic sympathy. Kaya has lost her rich parents and is being controlled by her scheming butler. But Nami, who up to this point has been only about herself, softens as she listens to Kaya’s story. But why is Nami suddenly so caring for someone else? It isn’t until later, when her backstory is revealed, that we learn Nami can identify with Kaya because she’s in a similar situation. By the way, this is another example of setting a precedent of a character’s actions.
The writing lesson is this: backstory can create suspense, reveal character motivation and make your story have more depth.
Cliffhangers
As a fiction writer, I know I should often end a scene or chapter with a cliffhanger. Two cliffhangers stuck out to me while watching One Piece.
The first is when we find out, at the end of one episode, Nami is in communication with someone she works for. We don’t find out until much later that she is working for Arlong. Not willingly, but to let him know she is doing his bidding. That’s why she contemplates leaving Luffy and his crew: she’s long communication with Arlong as is afraid he’ll harm her people.
The second example of a cliffhanger is my favorite of the series so far. We know the marine admiral Garp is after this punk pirate wanna-be named Luffy. But why? Is it because he’s an annoying little punk? At the end of one episode, Garp is on a marine battleship and is about to take out Luffy and his crew on their new pirate ship. Luffy looks through a telescope and sees Garp on the deck of the marine vessel and exclaims, “Grandpa?”
For me, this revelation turns the whole show on its head. The writers could have revealed Garp was Luffy’s grandfather from the beginning. But withholding this information until the end of the episode makes this stakes more personal for Luffy. And it’s a big shock for both the other characters and the audience.
The writing lesson is this: cliffhangers can be used for more than trying to keep the reader to keep reading–which is definitely important. A well-used cliffhanger can create more depth for the plot and characters.
These are just some of the fiction writing lessons I learned from the live-action One Piece on Netflix. But don’t worry. Watching the show as a writer won’t diminish your enjoyment. One Piece is well-done and I highly recommend it.

Love the direction, cinematography, and soundtrack of this flick—it's got the vibes of a solid novel adaptation. But gotta admit, the style's a bit of a head-scratcher, kinda stuck between being dark and YA. Wish it nailed one instead of being neither here nor there. Honestly, the early seasons of Hannibal, Dahmer, even Interview with the Vampire felt better crafted. Oh, and got flashes of Call Me By Your Name in there too. If they'd gone full vampire tale, this could've been top 100 material.
ok time for me to unleash my opinions on it lol. first of all, havent seen dahmer and i dont plan on watching it, the families of the people killed by him asked this show not to be made and neflix didnt care and didnt pay them shit, i also dislike the glorification of real life murderers.
i see your point w the full on vampire tale. but the cannibalism itself is a metaphor in my view. loving someone so much that you want to crawl inside their body, that you want to eat them whole. this is supported by the boy's last line "love me and eat", it destroyed me. i think of this movie as a love letter to the unfinished or interrupted young loves of my generation. bcuz modern technology is noneexistent in it, the story takes place in 90s it seems.
i do not think that it is YA but i do think a 16 year old could survive watching it, albeit without understanding the themes.
the girls mom, literally eats herself in a mental institude because she cannot accept herself, but neither can she stop herself. the meeting of mother daughter and the mother literally trying to eat her daughter has to do with parental abuse and the dangers of mentally ill people not getting the correct threatment for their situations. a lot of mental illness types are genetic, and the girl getting her cannibalialistic tendencies from her mom is a nod to that. You can either destroy yourself w this reality (mom) or learn how to deal with it and build your life from there.
the man who doesnt need to eat human flesh but does so anyway due to being amazed by the cannibals? and becoming one himself, even tho hes a cop? enjoying this act of destruction and consumption? its a direct comment on how corrupt cops are.
It is the story of a first love that ended due to circumatance and a metaphor for loving someone too much.
I really love hannibal and int w vampire and i get how ud make a connection with them.
above all else, this movie destroyed me bcuz i remember my first love. i remember wanting to do unconventional things to his body. i remember how the end of the relationship destroyed me. and i cried for the chars but i cried for myself too. i cried for that me who went through it. and the realization that all of these feelings are such an inseperatable part of human expression and emotional range, it is possible that we all live it. the idea of this shared experince blew me away.
the notion of being known without exposing yourself, bcuz its just simply being a human, and another human being who felt the same showing it to you via art.
As expected, i finished conversations with friends yesterday and am currently trying to read beautiful world where are you, but its not calling to me, the start is very boring and i think im kinda done w sally rooney for now. i'll try again later.

Okay, but which one?!?!?!
@foundfamilyadoptionagency, there are two completely different versions of King Radovid, and the only thing they share in common, thus far, are their name, and this one paragraph from the book establishing Radovid as King Vizimir's successor:
Tumblr media
From there:
CD Projekt Red wrote their own version of the character for the videogame "The Witcher 3", that happens after the events of the books. They have chosen to imagine that 13-year-old Prince Radovid would grow up to become a cruel and paranoid tyrant, burning non-humans at the stake. In that version, he is still King Vizimir's son, and was only 12 when he was murdered.
The Neflix series, however, chose to write Prince Radovid as King Vizimir's younger brother, rather than his son. So, he's already in his late 30s or early 40s when his brother is murdered, and he seems to be a replacement for the role that Queen Hedwig plays in the books thus far.
And now I'm very confused re: who I'm supposed to be voting for!
Since the picture is specifically from the game, did you mean:
"Should Radovid, from "The Witcher 3" 's videogame adaptation, join the tumblr found family?"
Because videogame Radovid would be an instant ditch!
I think he's one of the most universally hated characters from the videogame's own Witcher universe, and I wouldn't want him to be part of any family!
But my feelings for Radovid from the TV-show's Witcher universe, however, can best be summed up as:
Tumblr media
So, did the person specifically submit the videogame version of the character for adoption into the found family (I've noticed that Radovid's lover in The Witcher's TV series, Jaskier, has already been adopted... Hence why I'm wondering if you put up the picture of the right "Radovid" that was submitted)?
Or the version of Radovid from the series (that is romantically tied to Jaskier)? i.e. The one that just wants to listen to pretty songs, escape the terrifying world of lies, murder, and deceit he's been trapped into, go help the man he loves reunite with his own found family, and huddle himself in a freaking corner to cry after he finds out that all of his guards have been violently slaughtered?
Tumblr media
I mean, come on! Just look at him!
Tumblr media
He desperately needs to be adopted into a forever home!
He won't even mind spending his nights in a shed if you're not allowed to take him inside the house!
He's very well behaved, and very good at catching and fetching stuff and bringing them back to their owner, too!
Lutes...
Tumblr media
Boxes...
Tumblr media
And okay, I get that that he can be a bit insistent and annoying when he brings you his your favorite toy, and insists you play even when you're not really in the mood to...
Tumblr media
But come on!
He doesn't deserve to be thrown in a ditch alongside his videogame counterpart, poor sweetie...
He's an oversized fluffy puppy!
Tumblr media
So, are we supposed to vote for:
Book King Radovid (that one paragraph from the book),
Videogame King Radovid (the violent sociopath from the game)? Or
TV series King Radovid (the sensitive empath from the TV series)?
They're not all one and the same...

Restless Rewatch: The Untamed, Episode 24 part two
(Masterpost) (Pinboard)
Tumblr media
Warning: Spoilers for All 50 Episodes!
Arguing
After enjoying a tense  afternoon with Lan Xichen, Wei Wuxian comes home to enjoy a tense evening with Jiang Cheng. He pauses in the doorway as he takes in Jiang Cheng’s mood and decides which metaphorical mask he will put on to interact with his shidi. As someone who grew up with explosive people, I find this routine very familiar.
Tumblr media
Wei Wuxian is always carefully playing a role as he interacts with the people in his life. Clearly he has read the classic sociology text The Presentation of Self in Everyday Life and is using it as a how-to guide. We see him do this same calculation over and over, in which he reacts internally to a situation, comes to a decision about what persona to inhabit, and then dons that persona. It’s a typical abuse survival tactic and...it is exhausting.
This is why I think his leaving to be alone for a while in Episode 50 is a good thing. Being alone isn’t better than being with someone else, usually, but for Wei Wuxian, who is (by Episode 50) assured of love but not sure where he belongs in his own life, being by himself for a while is going to be the best thing for him. He can learn how to just be a person, instead of constantly trying to mold himself to fit everyone around him.
Tumblr media
For the current tense situation, Jiang Cheng is polishing his sword, which, incidentally, is slang (in English, not necessarily in Chinese) for masturbating. Which makes their conversation about how frequently it needs doing kind of a hoot. “One time a month should do,” per Wei Wuxian.
Jiang Cheng yells at Wei Wuxian--fairly, really--for being drunk all the time and not working on clan tasks. Then he responds to a hug attempt by shoving Wei Wuxian and knocking him down. JC asks WW if he’s too drunk to manage his spiritual power. Now, we know that he doesn’t have any spiritual power to manage, and that’s the main point of this interaction. But it also shows us something else about their dynamic.
Tumblr media
This was just a quick hit, and when it takes WWX out, JC asks why he isn’t responding with spiritual power.  Which means that apparently *every* time Jiang Cheng gives Wei Wuxian a shove or a shoulder check, or strikes him--like he’s been doing constantly since Episode 3--he’s putting spiritual power behind it. That’s...really harsh.
Jiang Cheng wants Wei Wuxian to fight back, and Wei Wuxian can’t; this is a big part of why their relationship breaks down. Casual blows loaded with spiritual power are part of their vocabulary, and Wei Wuxian can’t speak that language any more, even for basic defense. He’s literally not safe having simple interactions with Jiang Cheng now, because he’s secretly disabled, and Jiang Cheng is casually injuring him whenever he gets too close.
Tumblr media
(more after the cut!)
This time Wei Wuxian has had enough, and raises Chenqing to Jiang Cheng, who immediately backs off. Jiang Cheng has seen that thing in action, not just on the battlefield, but in a small room full of whatever remained of Wen Chao when they were done with him. He takes this as a serious threat, and backs off, disturbed and puzzled and hurt.
Tumblr media
Jiang Cheng thinks the change in Wei Wuxian is coming from apathy, not from disability, and so he misunderstands it over and over.  Think of a friend saying “whatever, I’m sick of arguing with you, do what you want.”  Jiang Cheng is very ready to feel rejected, and not at all ready to look at Wei Wuxian’s behavior and try to actually understand it.
Crying Over You
Wei Wuxian bails and goes to see Jiang Yanli in the ancestral hall, where she is polishing a name plaque. I turned the gamma way up to see whose it is and...I dunno. This character might be 江 (Jiang), I guess?
Tumblr media
Jiang Yanli is the only one of the trio who knows how to mourn properly, in that she is taking some time to sit and be sad. Mourning the dead--both ritually and just in the emotional sense--is as important a part of reclaiming Lotus Pier as the training of disciples and having good times on the lake.
She asks him about his fight with Jiang Cheng and he says he’s used to fighting with him. Jiang Yanli asks him if he’s tired of living there, and Wei Wuxian deflects and deflects, saying “it’s my home, where else would I go?” and that if Jiang Fengmian hadn’t adopted him he would still be begging in the streets. He says “no matter what happens, I won’t leave Lotus Pier,” which is not an answer to her question.
Tumblr media
It’s also not true. Like so many of his promises, it’s an expression of his wishes, with no space for the surprises real life is made of. He promises her that he won’t be reckless again, and asks her not to be mad at him. She says she can’t be mad at him, and then they share a flashback about Jiang Fengmian finding him on the street. This is a story, not a memory; Wei Wuxian can’t remember but he remembers her telling him about it. Jiang Yanli wasn’t there, in the moment. So this is her telling the story as it was told to her, probably by Jiang Fengmian.
Flashback Time
In the flashback, picky salad-hating Wei Ying is out on the street, looking for food in a cartload of pretty okay scraps. I mean, yeah, skip the tomatoes, but most of the greens look fine.
Tumblr media
He’s found and fed by Jiang Fengmian, who recognizes him and decides to take him in.
Tumblr media
Within a couple of episodes, we will see Wei Wuxian paying this favor forward, saving someone he finds starving on the street. Just like Jiang Fengmian, he's going to upset and disrupt his family in order to help someone for whom he feels a deep connection.
Tumblr media
During this flashback we get a look at Jiang Fengmian’s sword, and it is a beauty.
What is Love
As the flashback ends, Wei Wuxian is smiling, hearing Jiang Yanli tell this touching story of starvation and orphanhood. She tells him he was born with a smiling face, and that he never minds much about sorrowful things; no matter how bad the situation is, he is always happy. Way to reinforce that metaphorical mask he’s wearing over his deep, deep despair, sis!
Tumblr media
They talk a bit about Jiang Cheng’s bad temper.  Then Jiang Yanli says now that her parents are gone, they three are the closest in the world, and he responds by putting his head down on her knee and theatrically saying he’s hungry. But he’s crying for real, and so is she.
Tumblr media
Then he decides to ask her why people fall in love, basically, and claims that he does not have anyone in his heart. He says there’s no need to like a person that much, that it’s like “haltering your own neck,” according to Netflix. Let’s have a look at that figurative language for a second, and what’s missing from the Neflix translation.
Tumblr media
What he says is (as near as my qhanzi.com skills can make out) “這不就是自己給自己脖子上套犁拴韁吗” which Google tells me means "Isn't this just putting a plow on my neck with a rein?" The part of the image that’s missing from Netflix subs is the plow, and the hard labor and animal servitude involved in pulling a plow. This isn’t a pro-romance image.
He’s clearly thinking about Lan Wangji when he lies about having no-one in his heart, but right now the yoke that he wants to escape has nothing to do with Lan Wangji. The person he’s harnessed to in a team, the person who he labors with, the person he wants to escape, is Jiang Cheng.  What’s chafing his neck is the promise he made, to stay and serve as one half of a pair, when he can no longer pull his weight.
Busted
Tumblr media
Speaking of Jiang Cheng, he is hanging around outside the shrine, listening to the conversation. Wei Wuxian busts him, pointing out not that eavesdropping is bad, but that it’s bad for grownups. Jiang Cheng points out that he’s the master of Lotus Pier so he’s allowed to go anywhere he wants.
Tumblr media
(I love how he looks framed by this giant lotus behind him)
We Wuxian has another of those moments where he assesses the best approach to Jiang Cheng before responding.
Tumblr media
Then he picks a fake fight with him about soup.  Yanli comes out and tells them both to grow up, saying that JC is losing his demeanor as clan leader. He jokingly fixes his already-perfect robe ad they all have a chuckle.
Tumblr media
Then Jiang Cheng reminds Wei Wuxian of his promise for the millionth time, and Jiang Yanli goes to make soup for the millionth time. As soon as the boys see that she’s gone, the smiles drop right off of their faces. They’re both performing their typical relationship dynamic for Jiang Yanli.
Tumblr media
Being Reasonable
The brothers repair to the main hall, and stand behind the lotus throne looking out of this complicated wall/doorway thingy, while they talk about Jiang Yanli and Jin Zixuan.
Tumblr media
Jiang Cheng is being mature and sensible here, trying to give Jiang Yanli what she wants and also explaining very, very basic political stuff to Wei Wuxian, who is too caught up in his hate boner for JZX to want to think about the bigger picture. He also thinks that Jin Guangyao is a nicer person, but Jiang Cheng says that nice doesn’t matter.
Tumblr media
Wei Wuxian is getting a full head of steam going about what a jerk JZX is, when Jiang Cheng makes him actually stop and think, by pointing out that it’s not for them to forgive or not forgive Jin Zixuan’s past behavior; it’s up to Yanli.
Wei Wuxian sees the reasoning in this, and starts to say he can’t understand why Yanli chose to like this person, but then he stops himself and goes through a rapid series of thoughtful, uncomfortable expressions.
Tumblr media
Perhaps he’s realizing that he himself has chosen to like an infamously stuck-up, fancy cultivator, albeit one with no soup-related character deficits.
Library Time
The stuck-up cultivator in question is currently in the Cloud Recesses library, where he has snuck into the forbidden books room, against his uncle’s express command, for the purpose of helping Wei Wuxian. The forbidden books room is an entire basement floor of the library; it probably has more books than the not-forbidden part of the library, since the main floor needs space for the restrooms, circulation desk, and copy machines.
Tumblr media
(Did OP photoshop the Wangxian-in-the-Library porn picture onto Lan Wangjis’ book? She did.)
A couple of other Lans come along and see the main door unlocked. The lock is a big fish that probably uses magic for locking; it definitely doesn’t use a key. One of them steps in the doorway, glances back and forth without walking through, and does not check the secret door to the forbidden vault. Gosh, how did Su She and/or Jin Guangyao  ever manage to steal secrets from this highly secure location, wow.
Tumblr media
Lan Wangji hears the Lan disciple on guard duty say “don’t tell Hanguang Jun about this!’ and has a series of microexpressions that might indicate some kind of feeling about simultaneously being a rule breaker and a rule enforcer.
Boat Time
We end with an idyllic scene on the lake in Lotus pier, where a new batch of disciples is harvesting lotuses and learning the opposite of boat safety.
Tumblr media
Jiang Yanli and Wei Wuxian are having a good time, and seem utterly carefree; both of them are good at living in the moment, or faking it.
Tumblr media
Wei Wuxian thinks, in voiceover, that it seems that it’s not so hard to go back to the old days. Uh...ok.
Tumblr media
Except he’s hiding a massive secret and these replacement kids are not the same juniors he used to hang out with, and he can’t actually teach them cultivation, since he has no socially-acceptable magic power, and everything is about to go to shit in the next episode. But you gotta take your joy where you can, I guess.
Tumblr media
Note: There are a lot of questionable effects in The Untamed, but there are also beautiful scenes like this one, which looks like a Maxfield Parrish painting. Compare with the BTS below and you can see what a good job the VFX team did in bringing this lake to life.

After finally (finishing) going through the Six Baudelaires AU Tag, having asking as anon to @unfortunate-stranger-losers (who I hope doesn’t mind getting tagged) about creating a curse concept idea for their AU with other characters during my browsing (reading) of the tag, it’s time to present the Curse Concept ASOUE AU No One Asked For...
The Seven Six Widdershins Family Members AU
What is this Curse Concept AU?
Exactly as the name implies. There are seven six members of the Widdershins family. The Netflix!Widdershins Family and Book-Verse!Widdershins Family (with Book-Verse Headcanons) instead of being the canonical family of three, are now combined together to make a family of six.
(Movie!Fernald was present when it was form, and with a very active role. Ultimately though, Movie!Fernald ended up not playing a very active role; that said elements of him are sort of haunting around, and Book!Fernald fills the void of Movie!Fernald but not really.)
How in the WORLD are they related?
Netflix!Widdershins: Patriarch, Father and Stepfather; ~65 years old
Book!Widdershins: Eldest (Adopted) Son of Netflix!Widdershins, Stepbrother to Netflix!Fernald and Netflix!Fiona; ~39 years old
Neflix!Fernald: Stepson of Netflix!Widdershins, Step-Uncle to Book!Fernald and Book!Fiona; ~34 years old
Book!Fernald: Stepson of Book!Widdershins, Step-Grandson to Netflix!Widdershins; ~29 years old
Netflix!Fiona: Stepdaughter of Netflix!Widdershins, Step-Aunt to Book!Fiona (And Book!Fernald but she’s younger than him...); 17 by TWW
Book!Fiona: Stepdaughter to Book!Widdershins, Step-Grandaughter to Netflix!Widdershins; 15 by TMM
(Basically, almost everyone could be mistaken for either siblings or cousins; Netflix!Widdershins being an old man is exempt.)
Names for Netflix!Widdershins Family Members
Netflix!Widdershins due to development changes from the initial idea to the concept idea now, takes elements of a Snicket OC in the AU: Widdershins’ Sr (Widdershins’ Adopted Father). But my Snicket OC name or headcanon name for Netflix!Widdershins didn’t quite fit for the AU, so I went with a new name: Ephraim, which originated from the Hebrew word meaning ‘fruitful’.
Netflix!Fernald I knew off the bat needed a French Surname as his first name. I ended up with Verne, a reference to the French author, poet, and playwright Jules Verne. Netflix!Fernald also goes by the name of Nemo, a shout-out to Captain Nemo from Jules Verne’s most well-known novels, Twenty Thousand Leagues Under the Sea.
Netflix!Fiona’s name was the hardest one, because I wanted it ‘matching’ with Fiona’s name (meaning ‘fair’ in the Gaelic [Irish] language). I ended up going with Tegan, which derives from the Welsh word teg (fair) that means ‘darling’, ‘loved one’, or ‘favorite’, and I’ll can say that in the AU, Netflix!Fiona is the favorite child of Netflix!Widdershins.
Regarding My Face Claims for Book!Widdershins Family
Book!Widdershins in my headcanon, because my initial image of him when reading TGG, is (half) Cambodian. I don’t have a face claim for him (I go back and forth between two Cambodian actors who fit the image I have), but for the AU, Book!Widdershins’ Face Claim is Rous Mony from Buoyancy (2019). He needs facial hair, and well, that type of mustache will do (it’s not the canonical one, but it fits).
Book!Fernald does have a face claim (sort of; I think Arthur Darvill is very close to my personal image), but it doesn’t work for the AU, so I needed a new one. I ended up with Andrew Garfield from The Imaginarium of Doctor Parnassus (2009). I don’t know why I went with Andrew Garfield in this role in particular. I think it’s because he looks like a mess, and Fernald is a mess all around due to his life choices.
Book!Fiona, just like Book!Widdershins, I don’t have a face claim for (it’s hard for me to find the right brown hair actress, especially in their teen years). But awhile back, I was listening to the ASOUE movie soundtrack and suddenly thought, “Hmm, I bet if the movie continued on, Fiona would be a blonde.”  And thus came the face claim of AnnaSophia Robb from Race to Witch Mountain (2009).
About a certain fire...
While I go with the theory Mrs. Widdershins worked with Gregor when creating the Medusoid Mycelium and she ended up dying in the Anwhistle Aquatic Fire for my book-verse headcanons, this is not the case in the AU. There’s no choice but to pull a Netflix ASOUE by having to omitting their importance and put it on other characters.
Mrs. Widdershins, both of them, are dead in unrelated fires and no one in the family has a role (indirect or direct) in them. To get back on topic, when it comes to the players of the Anwhistle Aquatic Fire, in what is a major divergence for the AU, Book!Fernald didn’t partake at all in the fire, like how Netflix!Widdershins controversially didn’t partake in the fire.
Book!Widdershins and Netflix!Fernald still partake in the fire with their canonical motivations/implied canonical motivations; Book!Widdershins did it due to his dislike of Gregor’s actions + possibly did it on Kit Snicket’s asking, Netflix!Fernald did it due to being horrified of the dangers Gregor didn’t care about. But with Book!Fernald being absent, there is a serious ripple effect that changes how half the characters behave and act in the AU.
One Last Note
If this screams ‘April Fools Day’ joke know that it’s not I swear the timing just happened to be a coincidence and it just occurred to me now as I write this final part.
I don’t plan on making the Seven Six Widdershins Family Members AU into a full-length multi-chapter fic (it’s too much), but I did made content that is mainly incorrect quotes of how I picture their dynamics, as well as summaries and script format scenes of things that happened in ASOUE when Fernald is involve (or not). I also have more concrete stuff akin to a proper fanfic, but many of those need to be edited before I even think about posting them.
To those that made it this far, congratulations on reading to the end of the Curse Concept AU post alongside me. Please enjoy this incorrect quote of the Seven Six Widdershins Family Members, featuring Movie!Fernald (it was made when he was still around with a very active role but with no name, while the Netflix!Widdershins Family Members are edited with their AU names).
*Everyone is standing around the broken coffee maker*
Ephraim: So. Who broke it? I'm not mad, I just want to know.
Everyone:
Widdershins: ...I did. I broke it, Father.
Ephraim: [Beat] No. No you didn't. Verne?
Verne: *absolutely offended* Don't look at me, Stepfather. Look at Fernald.
Fernald: *is not amused* What?! I didn't break it.
Verne: Huh, that's weird. How'd you even know it was broken?
Fernald: Because it's sitting right in front of us. [Beat.] And it's broken.
Verne: Suspicious.
Fernald: No, it's not!
Tegan: If it matters, probably not, but Niece Fiona was the last one to use it.
Fiona: *offended* Liar! I don't even drink that crap!
Tegan: *crossing arms* Oh really? Then what were you doing by the coffee cart earlier?
Fiona: I use the wooden stirrers to push back my cuticle. Everyone knows that, Tegan!
Widdershins: *trying to take control* Okay, let's not fight! I broke it! Aye! Let me pay for it, father!
Ephraim: No! Who broke it!?
Everyone:
Fernald: You know, I just realize (Movie!Fernald) been awfully quiet.
Movie!Fernald: Oh, REALLY?!
*Everyone starts arguing with one another, pinning the blame wildly*
Ephraim, now outside of the room: I broke it. I burned my hand so I punched it.
Ephraim: I predict 10 minutes from now they'll be at each other's throats with warpaint on their faces and a pig head on a stick.
Ephraim: [Beat]
Ephraim: Good. It was getting a little chummy around here.

My guess on the Avatar live aciton show
Based on the article my guess is the follwing:
The setting will be similar to what they did on the Winx club adaptaiton; all the main characters going to a boarding-type school where they can be together for character drama. Benders have been gone for decades or hundreds of years, but somehow the names of the nations have stuck despite that ad now beding is returning to the world. Aang has probably been raised as a firebender but realizes he can control more than one element.
Zuko is not the son of the firelord, but a high ranking officer so that Zuko's arc of "realizing the imperalism of the fire nation" can be done quicklier and with less chacracter conflict with his family so that he can form part of the Gaang before s1 ends.
I'm assuming Sokka and Katara are gonna be some osrt of "Second class citizens" in this new world so we can have the woke discourse of "Systemic racism is a thing" that Neflix is kind of mediocre at. they probably have more family members alive like younger siblings and their father still around.
Imma be honest. It sounds like the producers realized they couldn't make the show as grand as the animated series is (You do need GOT levels of budget to do Avatar in live action) and decided to read some boarding school AU fanfic off wattpad an use that as template for the show. And yet, I want to see this dumpster fire come to pass.

NETFLIX PRESENTS: TRASHMOUTH Comedian Richie Tozier gives a crude and brutally honest take on growing up in a small town, retrograde amnesia, and facing your childhood fears in his new stand-up special. Starring: Richie Tozier Genres: Irreverent Stand-Up Comedy, Stand-Up Comedy, Comedies This movie is: Cynical, Witty, Irreverent
Part 4 of my unofficial Social Media AU, in which Richie’s Netflix Special makes waves, and he potentially breaks contract to share the last two minutes of his show.
[image description: a tweet from richie tozier with a video link to a clip of his stand-up special, captioned “idk if i’m allowed to do this but neflix can dm me later / this one’s for you trashmouth”. richie stands on a theater stage dressed in a red blazer set and black turtleneck. he tells the audience about a childhood run-in with a bully in which he was publicly humiliated in front of and ostracized from the rest of his grade after trying to befriend the bully’s male cousin. instead of keeping quiet, richie carves his and his best friend’s/crush’s initials into the town bridge, symbolically and literally making his mark on a town that left a mark on him. richie is grateful for the risk his younger self took in owning his identity despite the fear and ends the show by flipping off derry to the applause and laughter of his audience.]
full transcript under the cut:
1. People seem to think I grew up to be cynical when I was just as misanthropic as a kid. I mean, can you blame me? I was exposed to the worst of humanity from the get-go: middle school bullies. We all have our stories, right? 2. My bully carried around his police chief dad’s pocket knife and then committed patricide with said knife. I see the looks on all your faces but this is my show, and we do not have the time to get into that. Google it. 3. When I was like 13, that mullet-wearing prick saw me playing Street Fighter with his cousin in the arcade. Absolutely nothing was going on - I just wanted to hang out with this cool guy that I met, but I got thrown under the bus and he flipped his shit. 4. They both just flung slurs at me in front of half our grade. I just remember running out of there and collapsing on a park bench and thinking, “Fuck.” 5. Because it finally sunk in that this part of myself was not only very much not a phase, but also not as stealthily hidden as I’d thought. 6. It was, in fact, a glaring red flag to the rest of my small-brained peers that this kid was “different” - and we didn’t have Glee in the 80s, so “different” equaled “social pariah” and “victim of targeted bullying”. 7. This asshole probably thought he finally silenced the Trashmouth, that I’d double down on my dirty little secret and square it away under layers of repression. But joke’s on him. 8. Because the next day, I biked down to the local makeout spot. Every small town has one of those, right? The place that contributes more to a teen’s sex ed than actual sex ed? Derry’s was called “The Kissing Bridge”, and all up and down the path carved into the rotting wood were cutsey names in hearts - and just initials for secretly pining. 7. Well, I stole my dad’s pocket knife (sorry Wentworth) and scratched out an R for Richie and an E for Eddie - my best friend and the love of my 13 year old life. Hidden in plain sight, indistinguishable from those of the heterosexual lovers. 8. And the entire time, I kept looking over my shoulder, scared out of my mind someone would drive along and beat the shit out of me, but I didn’t stop until there were two letters and a crooked plus in between them. 9. And yeah, years later, fear took a hold of me again and threw me back in the closet for a few decades, but I’m still so proud of that kid. Because even though he was terrified, for the first time in his life, he owned who he was and the love that he had and I am so fucking grateful. 10. That permanent fuck you is still carved on that stupid bridge to this day. Derry may have left its mark on me, but I’d be damned if I didn’t leave one back. 11-12. (Richie flips off the camera to audience applause and laughter.) Thank you, New York! You’ve been a great audience! Good night!

4 raisons de regarder les kdramas ?
Tumblr media
