okay sorry to be That Person but i’ve seen this in a couple of places and it’s been bothering me. guys babs didn’t smoke. no way in HELL did naberius tern ever touch a cigarette i mean look at him. you want to talk about someone who needs everyone to know that his body is a temple. IANTHE smokes because she saw augustine do it and thought it looked cool and everything for ianthe is forever and always about the aesthetic. the reason pal brought it up in his argument is that he’s been in ianthe’s mind and has thus absorbed the knowledge of how to smoke from IANTHE. which he then uses to be like “see, when souls overlap they will always bleed into each other.” he’s not saying that he learned how to smoke from babs. or even that ianthe learned how to smoke from babs! babs never touched a cigarette in his life. he was too concerned about “work[ing] his little butt off” (thanks ianthe for that phrasing I’m never going to stop thinking about it) to attain physical perfection so that he could win shiny trophies in every dueling competition the nine houses had to offer. i mean. come ON. it’s BABS

speaking as someone who has similar stims as mel, i don’t think it would be far fetched to say she probably has an oral fixation. that is to say: do NOT hand this girl a vape.

she knows that smoking is bad! she tells patients that smoke this all the time. it’s a bad habit, it’s a dirty habit, the smell stains your clothes and your teeth. then she’s outside with santos one day, decompressing after having to deal with some shitty antivax parents.

“okay don’t judge me. it’s been a long day” and boom santos has a vape in her hand. mel just nods in what she hopes is a dismissive way, but she can’t help but watch as trinity takes a huge hit. her shoulders relaxing as she exhales and her eyes drifting closed. it looks… nice. it doesn’t smell bad, it smells like mint. clean. trinity opens her eyes and smirks when she catches mel watching her like a hawk.

“wanna try?”

“… okay”

trinity obviously doesn’t expect her to say yes. her eyes widen and she looks like the cat who caught the canary. handing the vape over she quickly explains how to do it. it’s not hard, just inhale, hold for a second, exhale. as soon as mel inhales, she hears the crackling from the vape and feels cold air fill her mouth. inhaling quickly, the smoke burns her mouth and throat. she can’t help coughing on her exhale. as she bends over to calm down, trinity pats her back in a congratulatory way more than to comfort her and takes back the vape.

her coughing subsides and instantly she wants to try again. it gave her the same sort of relief that humming does, it gave her mouth something to do and she knows exactly how the nicotine flows through her brain and her body. she knows she shouldn’t reach out and grab it when trinity offers it again, but she does. and she wishes she hadn’t more because of trinity laughing at her guilty face than the harmful side effects vaping has on the body. at least with this her breath won’t stink like cigarettes.
