My mum’s got this tea set that hasn’t been used in like 80 years or something because it was my dad’s grandma’s and he was convinced it was worth something… listen to me, it’s not, and I’ll tell you why. It’s because that thing is legally mine and nothing good would ever happen to me
#like the other day she asked to look at my copy of the first hp book to check it wasn’t a first edition#i was like girl if it had been a first edition don’t you think i’d have sold it by now#i only still have that series because they were my dad’s and they’re worth nothing. i think my copy of ootp#is a special edition worth approximately £50 but that’s the most any of these are worth#the first 4 are early editions but they’re teastained and falling apart. no one wants them. 6 and 7 are first ed but no one cares#ANYWAY the tea set#i found someone selling a cup and saucer (just one of each) for $25 but i think that’s literally just because it’s a uk import#people in the us will pay well for nice old british fine china. but people in the uk will not because we all have it in our homes#because somebody’s gran hoarded it#near as i can tell the full set is worth maybe £50 if sold in the uk#the thing is it’s not a full set because i broke the sugar bowl when i was 8#i’m stopping the nonsense right now and putting the plates in normal circulation as sandwich and biscuit plates#they are way too nice to just sit on a shelf for all eternity. additionally i’m not having kids so there’s no new generation to save them#for. you know who’ll be inheriting my stuff? some random great-nephew who doesn’t know who i am#why would i leave him an art deco tea set to sell on ebay when i could just like……. use it#personal#forgot to add. i don’t know what to do with the teapot and cups#the cups are SO tiny they barely fit a tea bag in them and additionally i don’t drink tea#i feel bad donating half a tea service but i want the saucers#maybe i’ll just do ebay. or see if any of the charity shops will take them#it’s not like it’s a unique set.. someone somewhere probably has similar saucers. hell someone probably has the SAME saucers but no cups

Do you know what chuck Barry said ever night before counting 1,2,3,4?
I work in the IT field, and for years I worked for myself. This was during the early years some time ago. I only had about 2 years worth of professional experience at the time even though fixing and rebuilding machines had been my thing since child hood. So I reckoned I'd start doing contract work on my own. This went well for some time, and eventually I partnered with a few people and started a company. We had many clients and return business, things were going well.
We had one big client who resold PCs and Laptops online and in a storefront. We were his "refurbisher". Now there was a massive "grey" area with this client. In that they would purchase machines from dang near anyone, and it was pretty obvious that some of these systems didn't come from the most reputable of sources. However, they paid on-time, and over the course of a year we had no major issues, so we overlooked some things. Typically we would refurbish around 10 or so laptops, and maybe 4-6 desktops at a time. We would perform pickups at night around 9 or 10 pm at what was essentially an illegal gambling room they also ran. Now when I say gambling room, I don't mean a few machines, I mean several tables with games starting with a buy in of $500.00 US and up to $25,000.00 US! On some nights you'd walk in to see local politicians, constables, sheriffs, etc on the tables. It was clean, it was quite, and it had been there for some time. We did some work there as well, but for the most part, If we weren't directly involved in it, we turned a blind eye to what he was doing. No one was getting hurt so meh.
So enough of the back story, here comes the incident. We would work for as many days as we could straight making money, so on an off day I get a call from said client asking for a really late pickup after midnight that he wanted all wiped and reloaded and back by Monday night (it was Friday). I pull myself away from my gaming session and beer, hop in the car and go to make some money! I get there and his estimate is off, there are more machines than he originally stated!
I'll me $Mekio and he will be $TOD (that one dude).
$Mekio: Soooo... That's way more than usual.
$TOD: Is that a problem?
The stack it was big! There were at least 50 laptops, and maybe 30+ desktops, and several servers.
$Mekio: Don't get me wrong, I can do it, but it won't be by Monday. Lets say Wednesday. Also, I'm going to need some help loading these. You do realize how much this is going to be right?
$TOD: Of Course! Have I ever NOT paid you?
I think ok, and pull out the contract and add up the machines for the estimate. A few things to note. Our prices on wipe and reloads at the time was the set in stone.
$90.00 for a Desktop
$125.00 for a Laptop
$190.00 for a Server
Essentially, $2,700.00+ for the desktops | $6,250.00+ for the laptops, and around $1,330.00 for the servers. At the end of the day, We invoiced him for around $11,000.00 US for labor and time. A few parts were needed that added to the final, but he signed and off we went. Wednesday comes around and I finally finish loading my last Dell latitide D600, and repack all of these items in my truck (filled the back bench seat, bed, floor and passenger seat to get these all back!) I make the calls needed and drive down to meet him at his house instead of the room for some reason at his request. I pull up and walk to the door with 4 machines. 2 laptops in bags around my neck, and 2 desktops under my arms. I knock and he opens the door and takes the machines.
$Mekio: Alrighty, here's the invoice. If you'd like to settle up, I'll go grab the rest of the stuff out of the truck.
$TOD: This is more than usual.
$Mekio: Yeah, there are more machines than usual.
$TOD: You didn't tell me that.
Now I have been called a lot of things, and non informative isn't one of them. I tend to explain things too much, like hammer them in. It gets me called an ass hole a ton, but at the end of the day you know what's on my mind and what I mean! Also it is important to note that I had an iron clad non payment section in my contracts! 90 days for payment in full, after that, I would sell off items to recover what was owed, and send you a check for anything over along with any additional items left. Clearly TOD had forgotten about this.
$Mekio: TOD, You know that, my contract is blunt and obvious and I don't hide anything. This is 4 or 5 times what you usually have us do a month, of course it costs more. You already singed as well. You get where I'm going with this right?
$TOD: Get my equipment out of your car! I'm not paying this. We can discuss this inside. Unload first.
I was dumbstruck, but again... I'm also an Ass Hole! I asked him if he was sure this is how he wanted to proceed? He just walked off leaving the door open. So I walked back to my truck, and left! Id din't close the door or anything. I got back home and unloaded all of the equipment again, and added the mileage from the trip back to my invoice. In my eye, he wasted my gas, and time, I was going to bill him for it. I then placed all of the equipment in my office, grabbed a beer, and played much WOW! A few days later TOD called.
$TOD: Where is my equipment? You can't just steal it. Bring it back now!
He was highly upset and I assure you I am missing most of the "colorful" words he used.
$Mekio: All you have to do is pay your invoice. Also I'm billing you for the wasted trip, so the invoice is now $25.00 US more (TOD is NOT close to my house/office).
$TOD: I'll sue!
$Mekio: Tod, look at that contract. Page 3, second paragraph. The section called Non-Payment.
$TOD: You're contract isn't legit! You're what.. 15? F*** your contract!
I will never forget being told to F my contract. I had the biggest shit eating grin on my face at that moment. You see I had learned about that section of my contract from another guy I had worked for when I was 19. It has been in my contracts ever since.
$Mekio: TOD... If my calculations are correct, you have 87 days left to pay your invoice in full before I start to recover my losses. Have a nice day TOD.
And I hung up. Not worth it getting into a shouting match on the phone. Contracts are contracts. You live and die by them. The next few weeks were filled with nasty emails from TOD, with replies from me that were essentially countdowns tot he days of "Recovery". The final 10 days I sent an email daily counting down. None of them were answered. 90 days came and went, and I was debating what I would sell, when I got my last call from TOD.
$TOD: You ready to stop this dumb shit and give me my equipment?
$Mekio: Are you going to pay your invoice? All of your stuff is still here technically. (I had claimed a laptop for myself, a little 17" emachine that I liked.)
$TOD: I'm not giving you a dime! I pay your bills. I make it so you can survive. Who else will hire you little boy?
The rest of his rant went dark! Mixed between the bouts of "I'm a big man" to the random fits of prejudice and bigotry, I had had enough. I put the phone down while he continued to yell, and started doing math. I had my invoice total. I started calculating what I needed to sell each component for to make what he owed to just me!
$TOD: Hello?! HELLO!!! Are you still there, if you hung up I swear I'll..
$Mekio: I'm still here TOD. I'll send you a check!
I hung up the phone with the biggest evil grin on my face. See what TOD did not know is that I was good at my job, and in the past 9 days I was killing it with small companies. I decided to become the small business angel. I sold machines for next to nothing! I was selling 700 dollar laptops for 150 dollars. The servers were gone in a week to 3 different companies. The desktops in the same length of time, and I sold those laptops like a crack head at the barber shop. I always had at least 5 on my to sell for dirt cheap. It took a little over a month, but I sold everything save for 5 machines which I sold to myself for a dollar each! At the end of the day, my invoice was paid. And I sent TOD a money order for just over 3 dollars!

Paper frog - my sister ripped him off the bulletin board at the Starbucks where she works to give him to me
White frog - picked him up at TJ Max when my mom took me dress shopping.

Bronze goofball - crooked eyes. very endearing. also very heavy. got him in a shop that sold lots of bronze things outside the Louvre.
Gold - a gift from my boyfriend!!!
Sassy Frog - i think my dad gave her to me? or maybe i bought her at the antique store.
Little brown frog - more fragile than he looks, missing his front right leg so i got him discounted from the antique store near school.
Glass frog king! - got him in prague! he was overpriced, but worth it
Teeny glass frog - also got him in prague for $3!
Another glass frog - got in the same store that I got tiny frog in.
iii. frogs that are minerals
Chunky brown frog - got him at the antique store near school. i think my boyfriend bought him for me on one of our first dates!
Black frog - $35 but worth every cent. smooth, elegant, made in Japan. gotten from the antique store near school.
Flat brown frog - got him from the flea market.
Malachite frog - bought him online from Bekkathyst! Expensive, but I took advantage of a sale.
Rose quartz frog - got from a really cool mineral shop in Prague! I did a project on that shop, about redesigning the storefront.
Pink frog - got from a yard sale a long time ago, only recently rediscovered in my room & added to the collection.
Little frog on a leaf - got from a gift shop at the end of a long 14k altitude hike in Colorado.

13. Tiny frog bead - got from the flea market!
iv. frogs that are squishy
Mint green frog loaf - picked this up from a recent con!! my boyfriend paid for half of it because he said this was something i needed to have, & he was right!
Webkinz frog - my dad got him for me at a yard sale because he liked the mischievous look in his eyes.
Little frog orb - part of a set of 3 round squishy things my boyfriend’s parents gave me for easter.
TY Beanie Baby Frog - a beanie baby original my sister got from a yard sale. he might be worth a lot of money since he’s an original. i’m looking into it.
Dark blue sand frog - I’ve had this since I was a child. he’s got stitches in his armpit because he used to have a big hole that let all the sand out.
Stripey sand frog - got her at a yard sale when i was maybe 9 so the dark blue frog could have a friend!
Green and orange beanie frog - picked this up from a “Night Market” in Vienna. having seen real night markets in Taiwan, I was kind of disappointed, but the frog was a good purchase.
Green beanie frog - got in belfast from a cool museum. has a pink twin owned by one of my friends. all frogs have sweet dreams
v. frogs that are toys
Skeleton frog - one of my roommates got him for me from a halloween store.
Glowing frog - he changes rainbow colors! my sister gave him to me for my 20th birthday last year.
Slime frog - my boyfriend got him for me as a Welcome Back present after i returned from Prague! he’s nasty. he’s full of yellow goo & he has a cap on the bottom of his body that you can undo to take out the goo. it takes hours to put the goo back in.
Keychain frog - also a flashlight that croaks when you turn him on! I saw him in Milan & had to have him.
Lime green frog - my dad gave me 3 frog bath toys for Christmas. I have one in my collection (this one), one at his house, & one at my mom’s house.

Wooden frog 2 - he rolls! picked him up for $4 in one of the Golden Lane shops in Prague Castle.
Frog rubber band - got him as a reward for being good at the dentist in like 2007.
vi. frogs i have not unwrapped
boblende fro - a frog bath bomb with a toy frog inside that i got from a weird store called Flying Tiger in prague. i don’t want to open him because he’ll be crumbly & i like the packaging a lot, & also i don’t want to use him yet.
Grow Frogs - another gift from my boyfriend’s parents for easter. I haven’t used them yet because I’m lazy & I don’t know if they’d crumble & I don’t know where I’d put them if they were unwrapped.
Frog King stickers - got these in northern ireland as well! i haven’t used any yet because they have layers & the things I’d put them on (my phone case, sketchbook, my laptop) move around a lot & the stickers would get destroyed really fast.
vii. frogs with jobs
Candle holder - one of my friends gave it to me for my birthday.
Green frog - got him from the local crafts store my roommate used to work at. He can hold onto the outside of cups or flowerpots or my finger!

viii. miscellaneous items on the frog display shelf
Fat cat with big poofy cheeks - i went to the flea market with my dad & saw this funny man.
Round unicorn & pink fish - the other 2 round things that came with the frog my boyfriend’s parents gave me for easter this year.
Crab ornament - given to me alongside the tiny rubber frog. he’s missing a leg and is EXTREMELY fragile - pieces of his shell fall off all the time.
Red wooden painted egg - got from an easter market in Prague.
Eggplant container - I keep souvenir pressed pennies in here.
Stone egg with stand - I got this for my dad from an antique store, but my dad said I could keep it.
Golden pig - gotten somewhere in Prague. I was gonna give it to one of my roommates, but my mom said “You should keep it for good luck, it’s the year of the pig!” & so I did.
Snake carving - my grandma used to give me little carvings made of the same material all the time before she died. I don’t know where I got this.
Little glass crab - a gift alongside the crab ornament & tiny rubber frog!
White rock - looks very pretty in the right light. got it from a mineral store in Cesky Krumlov.
Smooth rock - smokey quartz I think? got it from the same mineral store.
Carnelian scarab - got this from a really cool mineral store outside the Louvre. I could have spent all day in here - they sold really expensive frogs too. I had my eye on one made from turquoise, but it was 160 euros. Maybe next time.
Labrodorite heart - my boyfriend paid for half of it when he came to visit me in Prague! it’s very blue & very gorgeous.
Labrodorite chunk - my boyfriend got this for me at a hippie music festival!
Chunk of limestone - got this in northern ireland where there was a cool bridge near an old limestone quarry. I thought this rock looked cool, like mochi. You can’t tell from the picture quality.
Glass lizard - part of the gift with the crab ornament & the other things.
Turtle - got him from the flea market. not sure what he’s made of, but he’s handcrafted!
Shiny turtle - this was on the ground at the flea market. it probably had fallen off a display & cost money, but i put it in my pocket. please don’t arrest me
Stone turtle - got this guy from an aquarium that’s 2 hours away from home! we went as a group over spring break to the beach, but half of us immediately went home & half of us went to the aquarium. i got to touch a shark there.
& that’s all, folks! thanks for reading my frog lore!
#noro.txt#all the money i make is spent on big stuffed animals or frogs#mostly the stuffed animals because i receive a lot of frogs as gifts

What does $50 buy on Facebook Marketplace these days?
Hello again and Happy New Year! I hope this post finds you enjoying a prosperous baby New Year. Hopefully all good things ahead in 2019!
Okay...so I’ve been away from the old blog and WAY away from drum parts and restoration for quite a while now. I gotta admit, it gets to be a pain in the ass tracking down orphan drums, sorting parts, tearing down, cleaning, cataloging and restoring...and most of all, fielding questions and parts requests from vintage Tama drum bros from all around the world. I’ve also taken a break from selling on eBay and Craigslist because we all know what a royal pain in the ass that can be...and with increasingly diminishing returns to be had nowadays. I seriously needed to step away from the game so no one got hurt!
So back to “biness”. I always enjoy adding a few extra bucks per month to the investment account from diligent drum parts schlepping...and lately my personal finance bottom line once again came a calling. I was feeling I needed something to jump start my epic return to the old grind. Maybe a cheap kit to restore? Nope...got too many of those and my wife would murder me in my sleep..again! Most likely a decent lot of roached orphan drums to part out and/or restore and flip. Well a few days ago I found just the ticket, oddly enough...on Facebook Marketplace.
So being the bottom feeder that I am, here’s what $50 bought me...
Yeah...I thought the same thing. At first glance, no big wowy zowy right? A roached King Beat snare and some other crap.
Break it down one time!
(1) 81′ Tama King Beat snare
I was obviously into this deal for just the snare alone. This features a surprisingly complete KG parallel strainer assembly (shocker…both knobs are there!). I’ll need to remember to reassemble the complete strainer on the shell to ensure full functionality prior to scrapping the shell. Up close, overall this is not as shitty as it looks. The shorty coffin lugs (always in demand) don’t seem all that pitted nor do the PC die cast hoops. When I say “not all that pitted”, I mean typical of the era. There’s even a nice clean badge to boot. The big knob muffler is complete but the felt has disintegrated. Sure the shell is toast and is headed to an artificial reef but otherwise…parts heaven.
Cha-to-the-ching!
(1) 98′ Spitfire by Slingerland 22″ kick drum
Wait what? A Spitfire by whoesy whatsit? Yeah I sure as hell never heard of them either. Not much info on these drums as they were a part of the tail end of the sad Slingerland demise and much akin to the Chinese import “Swingstar by Tama” entry level junk of the era. The wrap is a bit bubbly on this drum and it is missing both spur sets. It’s also sporting a pair of roached, previously chrome and otherwise pedestrian Rockstar looking hoops that have been painted black. These originally came with matching wrap inlay hoops similar to the Taiwan level early 90′s Tama Rockstar hoops. Me thinks to myself…”Self…hey…I have pair of black inlay Rockstar hoops! I also have a pair of telescoping, diamond bolt pattern mount plate “Camco by Tama” (yikes!) kick spurs somewhere in the workshop that might fit the bolt pattern. Maybe I can smack this beast in the face, get it back into player’s shape and get $50 for it or donate it to the church for a tax receipt”. Win-win!
Here’s a pic from an old Guitar Center listing of what a “Spitfire by Slingerland” kit should look like. I guess it’s your basic, late 90′s, Korean firewood shell, entry level beater you’d buy for your kid at Christmas that he then stops playing a week later. Again, standard Taiwan Rockstar style matchy matchy wrap inlay hoops and typical telescoping spurs of the 90′s era. Still sporting the vintage style Slingerland lugs all around though. Hmm.
(1) Mid 60′s 13″ Ludwig Keystone badge Rack Tom with Gold Sparkle Wrap
Okay so this one is a bit out of my wheelhouse. I’m no vintage Ludwig guy by any means, but this was kind of cool to stumble upon. Sadly painted black by some doofus from days of yore…there is clearly a vintage gold sparkle wrap that lurks beneath what looks like some black house paint hot mess. This drum does have the original tom mount intact, but is missing the bottom lugs and t rods so it is about 75% complete. I believe the bottom hoop was in the lot as well. The uber-fatty re-ring shell appears to be sound, in round and the “who knows how long it was exposed” bottom bearing edge doesn’t look all the bad surprisingly. The badge is a bit roached, but this drum is worth a re-wrap and resto by some eager Ludwig aficionado that has the parts and a shit load of free time on their hands. Heading directly to an eBay near you.
* 1/10/19 UPDATE! Upon closer inspection, what I thought was thick black paint turns out to be the same shitty contact paper/vinyl that is on the timbales mentioned below! I easily peeled some off this morning and the wrap looks pretty decent underneath.
So the plot thickens on this drum...resto or no?
(2) No name 60′s era Japanese 13″ and 14″ copper over steel Timbales
Ole!
Well now these are pretty f-ing cool. Listed as “no name concert toms” in the Facebook Marketplace ad, I was pleasantly surprised that these turned out to be steel shell timbales. Hell, who knows, they may be copper. Likely not…they look 60′s Japanese, which basically means they’re one step away from scrap steel. They’ve been wrapped in a flaking, deteriorated black contact paper (same doofus maybe?), but they appear to be your classic copper plate over steel finish beneath. I guess I’ll find out when I tear them down. Can’t really tell if it is all surface rust on the inside of the shells or just copper patina that gives it that “old penny” look. The lugs to me look like the pointy Japanese Star style lug common to the 60′s Star kits and similar Japanese stencil kits of the era. Regardless, I will likely keep these as I don’t actually own a set of timbales and they’d be fun to bang on. The t rods are pretty toasty so they’ll need to be addressed. Thankfully, the clip/slide mounts are intact as is the original dual mount that I can retrofit into something period correct or even a vintage Titan stand. If the shells are too crusty on the surface to recover the copper finish, I’ll have them media blasted locally and then send them to my nephew in Vermont to powder coat with a fun finish.
Also included was an orphan but nonetheless classic Ludwig dual tom mount whose length seems to indicate it was from a stand. Then again, WTF do I know about Ludwig hardware? Regardless…more eBay fodder for the Ludwig loonies.
Okay so it is time to break down the potential flippage numbers “American Pickers - Bundle Mania!” style. I’ll keep it on the lower end of the $ scale.
King Beat snare parts:
Coffin lugs, sold in pairs @ $15 clear, assuming 4 good pairs ( I’ll keep a pair) - $60.00
KG strainer assembly, hopefully complete, the original extended snares were coiled up inside the shell and bent so I’ll keep those and try to salvage them.- $75.00
Muffler - I have broken tone control arms with good felt so I’ll fix this one, keep it and sell a good one - $50.00
PC die cast hoops - generally fetch in the neighborhood of $45.00 each - $90.00
Imperialstar badge with or without salvage grommet - $10.00
T Rods and washers - two sets of ten at $10.00 each clear - $20.00
Snare total salvage - $305.00
Slingerland Kick drum:
Parts needed are zero cost, sell or church tax receipt donation - $50.00
Kick total salvage - $50.00
Ludwig 13″ Rack tom and mount:
Sell as is or attempt to remove the black paint with citrus stripper, then sell on an eBay auction style listing starting at $25.00..maybe I’ll clear - $40.00
Tom mount is missing one L arm but in nice shape. might clear - $15.00
Ludwig total salvage - $55.00
Timbales :
I’ll keep these, will cost a bit to restore, random value at $75.00.
Timbale total salvage value - $75.00
So the total comes in at around $485.00 on a good day. Backing out my $50 cash outlay and the $75 value of the keeper timbales…with a little luck, I could potentially clear at least $350 on this lot. Not too shabby, considering the seller pretty much brought the drums to me right around the corner from where I work.
Now all I need is some free time, a whole hell of a lot elbow grease and the boundless patience for the eternal agony that is eBay and Craigslist.
Thanks for taking a look and maybe I will post a follow up on this lot. Some fun stuff in this batch for sure!
Cheers to a Happy New Year!
- jt

New book about World War Three
I am working on a book that I am going to eventually publish (not online, through an actually publisher to be sold) that is about the Third World War. I am trying to decide if I want to publish the story online at all or just wait so it is completely a surprise when it comes out. The idea is that there is a college student, Kristian Walsh, who keeps having long dreams about soldiers during different eras in wars around the world. He starts having dreams, or "visions" of him fighting in world war three, a war that hasn't happened yet. He uses his so called visions to gain intel and tries to stop the war from happening. Anyway, I am done with two chapters so far but I figured I would post a preview of chapter one to see if anyone is even interested in the book or idea.
My ears were assaulted by a loud noise that I quickly identified as a bomb going off. I felt the ground beneath my feet shake violently causing the ground rushed up to meet me as I fell to my knees, my arms grabbing my head to hopefully provide some sort of protection. Once I felt enough strength I ran behind a large building and leaned against it. I don’t know what kind of bomb it was but telling from the sound and the strength it couldn’t have been that bad.
I clutched my gun to my chest and took a deep breath. The lingering smell of iron was haunting me, reminding me of the blood that soaked the once rich soil. I glanced around me, taking note of what buildings still remained knowing they might not be here for long. I made eye contact with another soldier clad in a green camouflage uniform. He nodded at me before walking out from the building he was behind. Our base isn’t far from here but according to the explosion a mere few moments ago the Russians may have found us. That or they are close.
I ran my fingers through my brown hair, which was damp from sweat and a lack of proper bathing in at least 5 days. When I looked at the man again he was already at least 50 feet from me. I moved my gun so it hung across my back before sprinting after him.
“Zamoroz'te!” Someone yelled in Russian. I saw the man freeze as three Russian soldiers came out from behind a building. Being a good distance away from him I quickly ducked into a large building. In this moment I felt so grateful to be positioned in Norilsk because it is an industrial city, full of large buildings. I looked threw the boarded up window of the old shop I was in.
I couldn’t hear what they were thinking but before I knew it the man’s body was on the ground, shot through the chest by the small hand held HELLAD the man is armed with. I felt bile rise in my throat as the two men walked away. I clutched my weapon closer. I know that this is a war but seeing death this close… it is hard. I slowly rose from the cold floor where I had fallen in case they look this direction.
After checking the space around me for any signs of movement I ran towards the man. I knew he was dead but the part of my heart that still had a shred of hope drove me to check for his pulse. I looked at his face and was flooded with guilt. This man had a life, a family. He had so much to live for. I took a deep breath. We all knew the risks… But we also know that if Russia wins this it is over for us all. I gently shut his eyes. He looks like he is sleeping. I took off my top layer and placed it over him, covering his face and part of his chest.
To replace my upper layer I donned my quantum camo, wrapping it to cover me fully before I started the walk to base. I did not make it far before I heard the near silent rumble of military grade trucks.
Goddamn it. I turned to my south and sure be it there was a group of trucks heading my direction, the hammer and sickle immediately giving away what side they fought on. I fought the urge to run, knowing it would leave behind footprints in the fresh mud. After taking a few small steps I swore, looking down at my 3 very prominent footprints. Looking up and seeing them close I made the decision to lay on the ground, atop my prints. For the first time in ages, I actually prayed. I awoke with a start, a scream trapped in my throat. I took a few deep breaths to calm myself. My face was dampened by the cold sweat I must have broken into at some point in the night. I glances around the darkness of my small room and grasped gently at the small black and white quilt. It was a gift from my grandmother when I graduated high school. She had passed away the year previous and given the blanket to my mother. I smiled at her memory. She was such an amazing woman. With an over exaggerated sigh I forced myself out of the warmth and regretted it the moment my feet hit the cold floor.
I could hear Jonathan’s music playing from his room down the hall. I grabbed a pair of socks and walked, or rather slid, down the small hallway to the kitchen to get some food. I opened the pantry and grabbed a half empty box of cereal. I really need to go shopping, we are low on literally everything. After grabbing a cracked porcelain bowl and pouring in a small portion I went and sat down at the small wooden dining table.
“God-” I cut my profanity short as I got up again to grab a spoon. As I was riffling through the silverware drawer Jonathan came out of his room and met me in the kitchen.
“G’morning.” He mumbled, attempting to rub the sleep from his hazel eyes. In the mornings his voice usually holds the slightest British accent that he has lost since he moved to the states when he was young. I smiled at him as he grabbed a cup and paused.
“Kristian, do you want a cup of coffee?” He asked, turning on the balls of his feet to look at me. I nodded and went back to my bowl. He handed me the cup and started walking away with the pot.
“Test in Jurisprudence?” I asked, already knowing the answer. He nodded and took a sip from the pot.
“Test’s at noon, I have been up all night.” His voice sounded groggy as he took another swig from the pot. I shook my head as he left and took another bite of my cereal. That kid really needs to get some sleep. I’ll make him go to bed after the exam. I washed my bowl and spoon (Something that Jonathan apparently doesn’t know how to do) before going to my room to throw all of my things in my bag for period one.
I have my class for Criminology which is in the west building, maybe a 15 minute walk from our shared apartment, right outside of campus. Maybe I will take my bike. As I slung my sky blue and tan bag over my shoulder I thought back to my dream. That is the sixth time this month that I have had a dream like this and I am in the dark for the reason behind them. The air that surrounds me is cold and brisk, the autumn wind breeze gently rustling the brown and orange tinted leafs as the world moved past me.
I drew my hands into the sleeves of my jacket, a small shiver working its way out from my core as a passed the fountain. This fountain always makes me think of my little sister Mia. She is only five but every time mum takes her to visit she loves to throw coins into the water. Everyone loves her so she gets a lot of attention and always ends up surrounded by college students offering her pennies to toss in after her cute little wishes.
I parked my bike with a sigh with a sigh and made my way quickly to Mr. Gibbs room, hoping to get there in time to get a seat closer to the board to help with my poor eyesight, as well as to set up my laptop in peace. Unfortunately for me by the time I arrived there was already five or six people there. I popped in my headphones and pressed play on my playlist Weichei and the first song to play was Bees by The Ballroom Thieves. I smiled and put in the other headphone, letting the music carry my thoughts away to a beautiful place.
My mind wrote with such fluidity that I didn’t fully process the words appearing on the paper. I hummed along with the music, feeling it reverberate in my very soul. To my despair the class started after only three short paragraphs. I took out my headphones and set them atop my desk.
As the teacher droned on I let my gaze fall to my paper and my eyes scanned what I had written and much to my frustration I noticed that about halfway through one of the sentences my words switched from English to Italian, as happens every so often when I get distracted or frantic. I gripped my eraser and erased my work after memorizing the lines translation.
“Kristian! This is no time for doodling, eyes up front please.” I lightly rolled my eyes before turning back to the board. ‘I once read that I should write something worth reading or I should do something worth writing about.’ I let my eyes focus back on Professor Gibbs. He was an older man, his hair becoming speckled with spots of grey. His eyes still held that spark that only passion can give. Even after 35 years of teaching he still had his passion and I will admit, I admire him for that.
My eyes began to wander around the room, landing on random students, my mind coming up with what their lives may be like. They landed on a boy, his curly jet black hair going to the base of his neck. His eyes gleamed with a curiosity, just like my own. I wonder what his life like? Does he still have all his family or did he lose his father young like I did? What does he do after class? Does he have a girlfriend? Boyfriend?
I focused back on Gibbs, trying to take in what he was saying but my mind seemed to be against me. Looking at the clock and an hour had already passed. I smiled and looked back at Gibbs for the remaining 15 minutes. With the knowledge that I am almost free the class seemed to pass quicker and before I knew it Gibbs was telling everyone their homework and excusing us. I quite literally shoved everything, with the exception of my writing notebook, into my bag before heading to the door. After throwing a fast “Have a good day” over my shoulder I left, just wanting to go back to my apartment.

Hello, subledgers. I have missed a couple of the accounting words of the day. Unfortunately, my queue ran out and I didn’t realize it because I was busy with class and work the past week. To make up for my lack, I’ve decided to give you some real actual content.
Below the cut, you will find my review of The Accountant. There will be spoilers for the plot.
This is really just some of my thoughts on the accounting portion. Please note this is only about the accounting part of the movie. Autism is a major part of this movie and I am not going to discuss how badly or how well it was portrayed because that’s not the focus of this blog. This movie also examines family relationships, some psychological responses to situations and spy/assassin dynamics as well as military and military family life. I won’t discuss any of those. I know that @scriptautistic has mentioned that neither of their mods has seen the movie and neither has @scriptshrink . I do not know if @scriptsoldier have seen it, and there’s currently no scripthitman. Perhaps when the others watch the movie they will be willing to discuss what was done right, what was done wrong, what was a good start, what fits with this plot, but might not work for another, etc.
But, let’s begin.
After the introduction where the Main Character is shown as a young boy, we cut to him as an adult working as a small time CPA. He’s providing tax advice to a couple that owns a farm and is going to have to pay taxes. He notices that the woman has a unique necklace. He asks if she made int herself and she said yes. He then asks if she sells them and she hedges around a bit and says that she does at some church functions. Then he asks where she makes them and she says all over, but she likes to do it at the dining room table, but her husband doesn’t like it there. He keeps trying to shush her. This is for his protection. What he does in this scene is basically tax fraud. He calls her necklace making a home based business and then writes off a portion of the household bills as being business-related expenses. That’s not a problem, except that he encourages the husband to up the amount of space “devoted” to the business when he knows that no particular space is devoted to the business (he wants her to stop contradicting him so that he can claim that his understanding was that it was devoted, in case of audit). It is a perfectly acceptable deduction to deduction a portion of your mortgage and household bills for a home based business in proportion to the amount of space used for the business. But you have to actually have a space devoted to the business and you have to actually have a business. That means you have to run it as a business including tracking expenses and sales, using a separate checking account, using a DBA if possible, and showing a profit motive. If you cannot show a profit motive, including earning a profit in 3 of the past 5 years, then the IRS will likely consider it a hobby. Hobby expenses can only be deducted up to the income from the hobby. This character probably knew that since his backstory includes working for unsavory criminal type people, so he’s used to considering the rules somewhat flexible. We find out he does forensic accounting, which is done sort of like an audit (at least in this movie, I’m taking forensic accounting in the Fall and will have more info then). He did this for criminal organizations and now he’s planning to do one for a legit company, which is the basis for the movie. Caveat, if his specialization is in forensic accounting or auditing, he would not be as smooth on tax accounting as someone that focuses on it. Income tax accounting, and income tax auditing are completely different beasts than financial statement accounting and auditing. They have different goals, different rules, different regulating bodies. Income tax has to follow IRS guidelines, financial statements should follow GAAP (which isn’t strictly necessary if the company isn’t publicly traded, but if it is, the SEC requires audits to make sure GAAP is followed, and it’s good practice for to follow GAAP anyway, that’s why they are the Generally Accepted Accounting Principles). He goes to the company, they make some tech thing, super cool, super not talked about. A low-level accountant lady found something that didn’t match up and they want him to look it over to find out if someone is stealing from them, and if so, how much. He asks for the past 10 years worth of data. The guy gets all fussy. He asks how long the guy has been there, 15 years, he asks for 15 years of data. The lady that found the mistake to start offers to help, he tells her to leave him alone. He brought his lunch, works better alone, doesn’t need help, socializing not his thing. She’s a bit confused but takes it in stride and then he starts going through financial statements and folders full of invoices and records. The company I work for is a manufacturing company for a pretty high tech industry. It’s a small company, under 50 people. For 2014, I have 12 banker boxes full of financial data, the bank reconciliations, credit card receipts, invoices for accounts payable. That’s not including any payroll stuff, any invoices for items sold. For 15 years worth, using that as a base, he should have 180 bankers boxes full of files. Plus the tax files and the actual financial statements (and he should have the monthly and quarterly statements, not just the annual, audited statements). He sets up a chart on the white boards to track certain information, that’s good. I didn’t look at the titles close enough to see if it’s what I would have tracked, and I’m the sort to keep it in an excel file, not a giant white board that anyone can see, but, hey, to each their own. Then he starts running his finger down columns of numbers from the financial statements. I’m not sure what numbers, the page didn’t look like a statement that I’ve used. And we see him looking over invoices and writing things on the boards, then writing more things on the windows. And he’s throwing out marker after marker as he goes through boxes. Maybe he doesn’t use excel because he doesn’t have to pay for the markers. Short break for lunch where he bonds with the accounting lady a bit while eating on the steps outside. Apparently, they don’t have benches, or tables, or a break room at this company. (Is this a thing people actually do somewhere? All my jobs had a place to sit.)
Then he’s writing more. Next day we find out when he tells accounting lady that he’s found where false invoices were being put in and when it started, how long it went on for, what numbers showed it. She’s amazed. He went through 15 years in a day. She only went through one year.
She should be amazed. A normal audit which uses random sampling to determine that statistically, the numbers are probably correct, uses a team of auditors (of various sizes, but usually more than one) and takes days, weeks, maybe longer (longer for smaller teams or bigger company being audited), but it normally takes a couple of days to make the audit plan. He can skip that part, but we were still given the impression he didn’t do a random sample, he checked everything.
Remembering how he ran down the numbers and could recall numbers, he’s obviously supposed to have Autism granted Accounting Superpowers. But still, to claim he went through 180 boxes of paperwork in a day is beyond speed reading.
He tells someone how much was stolen before he has tracked who or why. Then the guy that wanted him there gets killed (hitman plotline), so they kick him out, erase his work and take his boxes of info. He gets really upset. Partly because one of his autistic traits is a need to finish puzzles that he’s started. But also, that would really piss me off too. (And again why I use excel, save and back it up). That’s a lot of work to have just wiped away.
So he leaves, and the hitman plotline speeds up and the accounting part slows down. Then near the end when the romance plot seems to be heating up (with the accounting lady because you know us accountants don’t find anyone as sexy as other accountants. This is a lie. I actually read someone advise an accounting lady that engineers can make good romance partners, though. so maybe write that into your story), he suddenly figures out the who and why because of a case some years back where someone else did something similar. That’s probably the most honest accounting thing in this movie.
100% correct things: 1) You spend hours working on reconciling accounts to find something wrong. You can explain the outcome of your work in one sentence. 2) If you’ve spent hours reconciling something and were stopped before you finished, it will keep bugging you until you figure it out, and you’ll probably have the “aha!” moment at a completely unrelated and awkward moment.
Other correct things: 3) ZZZ Accounting is a horrible name from a marketing standpoint (also, I think it’s a joke about accounting being boring). You aren’t going to get many walk-in clients that way. But if you need free time for forensic accounting for mob bosses and your tax accounting is a little rusty anyway, it’s a good enough cover. 4) Laundering money through multiple businesses will probably make it less noticeable. Also, you should have them be in different places and not make your accounting firm seem an odd one to pick if you’re going to use that to do their taxes. These are crumbs the feds (treasury dept, in this case, I think?) will use to figure out who you are and where you are.
Wrong things: 5) Tax preparers are probably more likely to recommend tax fraud. Accountants spend a lot of time and money on keeping their CPA license and saving someone $ on taxes isn’t worth losing that. Even if they are nice and let you shoot guns on their farm. 6) Cross-functionality is pretty rare. Knowing the basics and enough to keep the license up, yes, but truly intricate knowledge of tax law and the time requirement for forensic accounting is not especially likely. Most accountants will have a specialization that they know really well and then a broad base knowledge of the other areas. 7) Financial records are huge. A single year for even a tiny mom and pop shop would be a few banker’s boxes. Also, most companies will not keep these records for 15 years. Other than leases and similar items which are kept for the length of the lease, most financial records are kept 7-10 years, and not all of those must be on site. 8) We have computers now and we love them and we use them. It lets us move numbers around and compare them more easily. 9) A full review of all financial information including reconciliation of errors would take more than 24 hours even with Accounting Super Powers. Well, that’s my review. If anyone else saw it differently, let me know. In the meantime, keep it in the black. Disclaimer

2016 Film Countdown: 50-41
50. Whiskey Tango Foxtrot
Whiskey Tango Foxtrot was a good stop-gap for me during the wait between Zootopia and Batman v Superman. It’s certainly not a bad film, but I don’t know that I’d call it good either. It sits at a sold okay for me. As a historical/biographical film I think it hits the bare minimum. It gives an interesting perspective on the war in Afghanistan from the viewpoint of the journalists, and even has some interesting scenes regarding the psyche of Kim Baker (portrayed by Tina Fey who is actually quite good in the role). However, the film never gets too deep into the gritty aspects that one would expect and its attempts at humor never really land.
49. Complete Unknown
The first thing I think of when I think of Complete Unknown is a story that did not need to be a feature film. Now that’s not to say that it isn’t good or that it shouldn’t exist, because I think it is a good story and one worth telling. It follows the events of our male lead named Tom (portrayed by Michael Shannon) on the night of his birthday, only for one of his former lovers (portrayed by Rachel Weisz) to reappear in his life. The film explores the idea of identity and everything that comes with it and both Weisz and Shannon deliver pretty good and engaging performances. The problem lies in that at 91 minutes, the film does do enough visually to keep the audience engaged, even if the overall idea as good. This definitely would have worked better as a short film or story.
48. The Neon Demon
I wanted to love this film a lot more than I did. Visually, The Neon Demon is one of the most stunning films I have ever seen. I have to give major credit to not only Nicolas Winding Refn, but also Natasha Braier (the film’s cinematographer). As you can probably tell from just the poster above, the film has an excellent use of color to convey everything the picture wants you to think and feel as well as just being drop-dead gorgeous. Unfortunately though, the film goes on for too long after it has outstayed its welcome, and as much as I enjoy Elle Fanning’s work, the script and performance just feels hollow. The Neon Demon originally started much lower on my list, but the longer I thought about it, the more I could appreciate its artistic value and (sometimes hazy) themes.
47. X-Men: Apocalypse
Here’s another film that I reviewed when it first released. If you want to read my full and extended thoughts, you can check them out here. I will say here though that my thoughts on the film have basically stayed the same. It’s too overlong, bloated, and filled with set-up for it to ever reach the glory days of X-Men, but there are enough scenes here to keep you engaged and having fun.
46. The Magnificent Seven
So remember when I said that I’m not against remakes so long as they add something to their source material? Well, The Magnificent Seven is not one of those movies. It is a fun enough time at the theaters though, which saves it from being too far down on the list. Chris Pratt is fun, Ethan Hawke is giving a good performance, and Denzel Washington is a great lead. However, you can’t help but notice that all of the Western cliches are here and while the action is fun and exciting, the downtime drags much more than it should have. I honestly don’t have much to say about this movie so let’s move on!
45. Ghostbusters (2016)
Speaking of remakes/reboots…Ghostbusters came out everyone. I’ll give the filmmakers credit, the new Ghostbusters was a lot better than I was expecting it to be. There were laugh-out-loud jokes, amazing character moments, and the cast was actually well chosen and did their best with the material. So what went wrong? I can’t speak for everyone considering a lot of people who hate on the film are doing it out of misogynistic reasons, but for myself, the problem lied with its reliance on references and retreads of the source material. Now, mid-review CONTROVERSY ALERT(!!!) but I’m really not that big a fan of the original Ghostbusters. It has aged much more poorly than a lot of the 80′s films we love, and bringing it back only emphasized the antiquity of the idea. Kate McKinnon was awesome though.
44. Blair Witch
CONTROVERSY ALERT…maybe. Personally, I’m not a fan of the original Blair Witch Project. Once you know that none of the things that happen in the film are real, it takes away everything that makes it interesting, and for real, how long can they argue about a map? Imagine my surprise though when a late sequel comes out that is actually scary (though it relies too much on jumpscares), has things actually deepen the lore of The Blair Witch (even though some of the things are pretty dumb), and plays with the idea of found footage through different types of cameras (even though their drone is next to useless in the end). As you can probably tell, I’m in a constant battle with myself over whether this film is actually good. As of now I’m leaning towards it being decent at best, but nothing else this year made me jump and flinch as much as Blair Witch, and I can’t take that away from it.
43. Middle School: The Worst Years of My Life
I honestly don’t know what compelled me to see this film. I’m much older than the target demographic, but something in the trailers gave me a Max Keeble’s Big Move vibe, so I decided to sit down and watch it one night. What I got was a solid film with slick animated sequences and good comedic moments from the principal who was played by Andy Daly. It’s not great or anything, but there were enough moments in it that kept my attention. In fact my biggest complaint is the completely off the wall plot twist that is thrown in near the very end of the film that had no set-up at all. I can’t recommend it for anyone my age, but if you are in the target audience I’m sure you’ll enjoy it.
42. Elvis & Nixon
We’re coming up on some films that are so middle-of-the-road for me that it’s hard to find things to say about them. This is one of those films. Elvis & Nixon has a lot in common with Complete Unknown considering they both star Michael Shannon (who is doing the strangest Elvis I have ever seen) and they both would work better in a short film format. The whole beginning of the picture is pretty basic and forgettable, but when the meeting between Elvis and Nixon (who is expertly portrayed by Kevin Spacey) actually takes place, the film becomes wholly enjoyable and even laugh-out-loud hilarious, which more often than not comes from the absurdity of the real life situation than from the film itself.
41. The Shallows
I was completely taken aback by The Shallows when I first saw it. What I was expecting to be another low-rent shark movie turned out to be a tense survival film and a great acting showpiece for Blake Lively who is giving one of her best performances. I also have to give props here to the film’s director, Jaume Collet-Serra, for taking this overdone concept for a film and making it one of the better shark movies I have seen (though I have seen a lot of terrible shark movies…). However, even though the climax of the film is exhilarating, it takes away a lot of the realism that made the first two-thirds of the film as good as they were to begin with.
That’s all the time I have for today guys, but join me tomorrow when I talk about a Harry Potter spin-off, a buddy-cop comedy, and a monster that only comes out in the dark.

Divining Dow Headlines; Bob’s Your Uncle at Disney
Divining Dow Headlines; Bob’s Your Uncle at Disney:
Getting Sentimental on the Dow
Ever have one of those mornings when you read headlines from the major financial publications … and you nearly spit your coffee all over?
I had one of those this morning. I watched as the headlines trended from “Dow Rallies 250 Points in Recovery Rally” to “Dow Rallies 200 Points” … to “Dow Up 100 Points” … then back to “Dow Rallies 350 Points”…
You get the picture.
When it comes to spit takes, there’s nothing like Dow headlines following a market rout. (I don’t know why I find this funny. I know I’m not right in the head. It’s why you like me … right?)
Now, I’m not one of those fervent Dow watchers — at least where the economy’s concerned. The Dow has long been disconnected from the actual U.S. economy. No, I view the world’s most-tracked market average as more of a sentiment indicator.
I follow the Dow for the same reason I follow the CBOE Volatility Index (VIX) — as an indicator of market fear or market complacency. The more the Dow appears in financial headlines, the more I know that market sentiment is shifting.
With the financial media reporting on every 50-point move in the Dow this morning, I know that fear has returned to the market in a big way. Recent VIX activity confirms this, as the “fear index” is up roughly 48% since Friday’s close.
That’s a considerable jump, and it may lead you to conclude that the COVID-19 outbreak is now priced into the market. I’m not convinced that’s true.
For instance, the Federal Reserve doesn’t seem to be taking COVID-19 very seriously. Cleveland Fed President Loretta Mester recently said that she has priced the virus into her forecasting model, but still projects “healthy consumption growth” and a “pickup in investment spending.”
Investment spending with this much uncertainty? Have you met U.S. businesses?!
Elsewhere, Fed Vice Chairman Richard Clarida said that it was “too soon to even speculate” about the virus’s impact. He said this to the National Association for Business Economics … right after speculating that the virus would considerably impact China’s first-quarter economic growth.
The Takeaway:
So, it’s too soon to speculate, but you’re still speculating … and that speculation isn’t good.
Let’s put that speculation in perspective.
Remember the SARS outbreak? When it hit China back in 2003, the Chinese economy only accounted for about 4% of global gross domestic product (GDP). The country was a blip on the radar back then.
However, the Chinese economy now accounts for close to 19% of global GDP. China’s economy was basically shut down due to COVID-19, and it’s still struggling to fully come back online. That’s pretty far from a blip. That’s a considerable impact on the global economy.
I’m all for “Rah-rah, go U.S. economy!” After all, we have the lowest unemployment rate in decades, consumer spending is strong, the housing market is on fire … but the Fed needs to take notice of what’s going on outside of U.S. borders.
The COVID-19 situation will take the shine off this rosy U.S. economy. The coronavirus correction isn’t over, and somebody needs to tell it like it is.
If that “somebody” is Great Stuff and not the Fed … so be it.
Good: To the Maxx
I’m starting to think that the “retail apocalypse” isn’t real … or, at least, it’s not quite the narrative we’ve been sold. I mean, sure, you have your struggling companies like Bed Bath & Beyond Inc. (Nasdaq: BBBY). But then you have retailers like TJX Cos. Inc. (NYSE: TJX).
TJX runs T.J.Maxx, Marshalls and HomeGoods stores, and the company is killing it right now. The retailer reported that fourth-quarter earnings spiked 19.1% year over year to $0.81 per share, as revenue rose 9.9% to $12.2 billion. Both figures easily beat Wall Street’s targets.
Furthermore, TJX said that same-store sales grew 6% on the quarter, nearly doubling the consensus estimate for 3.1% growth.
But wait … there’s more! The company also announced plans to hike its dividend 13% and repurchase $1.75 billion to $2.25 billion in stock.
That said, TJX was cautious in its outlook, but nowhere near as negative as other retailers. The company’s first-quarter and full-year guidance puts the top of those earnings ranges about $0.02 per share below Wall Street’s views. Not too shabby considering COVID-19 fears.
Better: What About Bobs?
It’s the circle of life. Bob Iger is now officially the former CEO of The Walt Disney Co. (NYSE: DIS).
Last night, Iger suddenly announced his departure from Disney after leading the company for 15 years. “We’re not concerned at all about creating any confusion,” Iger told a confused Wall Street. But it’s not like investors didn’t see this one coming.
At last year’s investor day meeting, Iger told attendees: “2021 will be the time for me to finally step down.”
It seems that Bob moved his time frame up just a bit — after repeatedly moving it back in years prior. Still, Iger leaves behind a considerable legacy, including the acquisitions of Star Wars, Marvel, Pixar and Hulu, as well as the Disney+ launch.
So, who’s replacing Bob? Well, Bob, of course.
Stepping in to fill Iger’s rather large shoes is Bob Chapek, the former head of Disney’s theme park business. Chapek bills himself as a direct-to-consumer kind of guy: “Everything I’ve done in my career has been about the consumer. … Parks are about as direct-to-consumer as you can get.”
While DIS investors are understandably nervous about Bob replacing Bob, Disney is in such a solid market position that it’d be difficult to mess things up at this point. And clearly, the new Bob understands Disney’s consumers very well. During the past three years, Chapek has helped push Disney’s annual park revenue growth above 10%, after it lingered in the single digits for years.
In other words, the Iger dip in DIS shares looks like a bullish opportunity. Buy DIS, and Bob’s your uncle.
Best: A Force to Be Reckoned With
There’s a lot to unpack with Salesforce.com Inc. (NYSE: CRM) today, so you might want to sit down for this.
First, the company posted stronger-than-expected fourth-quarter results. Earnings, revenue and order backlogs all exceeded Wall Street’s expectations.
But spending also topped the consensus expectation, with 14% of revenue going to research and development. Investors reacted negatively to this fact. It’s like they don’t realize that Salesforce.com is investing in itself to catch up with the Microsoft Corp.s (Nasdaq: MSFT) and the Oracle Corp.s (NYSE: ORCL) of the world.
Second, co-CEO Keith Block announced that he’ll step down. Block is staying on as an adviser for CEO Marc Benioff, so this news isn’t all that big of a deal for CRM investors. Still, news of CEOs departing is typically a bearish driver for stocks.
Third, Salesforce announced that it’s buying industry cloud mobile software company Vlocity Inc. for $1.33 billion. Vlocity strengthens Salesforce.com’s presence in the cloud mobile market. And, according to Ray Wang of Constellation Research: “It keeps Google from buying them and could generate $10 billion in additional industries revenue growth.”
So, we have heavy spending, a retiring CEO and an acquisition all in one day for Salesforce.com. However, CRM shares only lost about 2%, so more than a few investors see the value in the company’s heavy spending on growth. If you haven’t already, CRM is worth looking into.

Great Stuff: Your Bloodbath Bath Bomb
Are you enjoying this week’s bloodbath? I’m relaxing in mine with a lavender-and-lemon bath bomb.
I joke, but I’m sure it’s been painful for your portfolio. Sometimes the laughter is all that keeps us going. Just remember: It’s not the end of the world.
If you’re looking for a pick-me-up, a video featuring experts Jeff Yastine and Ian King caught my attention this week: “Coronavirus Hits South Korea, Italy — Fearless Investors Will Prosper.”

If you haven’t watched it yet, I won’t spoil the ending for you! (I won’t lie, it’s a tear-jerker.)
Needless to say, Ian King’s optimistic perspective was contagious. He’s always thinking about innovation, change and what the world will look like 10 years down the line.
Much of these trends rely on now-weakened supply chains in China and South Korea … but this virus isn’t strong enough to stop world-changing technologies such as artificial intelligence, 5G and Big Data — exactly the tipping-point trends that Ian focuses on.
So get up, I say. Get up! You’re not dead yet. You’re not going on the cart!
I truly believe that, if you’re positioned to ride these huge tech trends in the years to come, this week’s volatility is nothing more than a chance to load up at a discount. And Ian King’s Automatic Fortunes is your front-row ticket to research on the most exciting tech breakthroughs of our time.

Why You Should Never Buy a FindLaw Website
You’re likely reading this article because your law firm needs a new website and you’re weighing your options. You need something that looks good, ranks well, and doesn’t cost too much. But you also don’t know if you or your team have the time or skills to handle something like this in-house.
So, you do a search in Google and hear about this law firm website design service from FindLaw.
In general, the company seems like a trustworthy resource for people researching legal matters or looking to hire an attorney. It also has a hub dedicated to legal professionals. It appears that this company knows its stuff when it comes to law. Plus, it’s owned by Thomson Reuters.
Then, you discover that it offers marketing and website design services to law firms. It sounds like a fantastic deal: legal resources and done-for-you marketing by a self-proclaimed “award-winning” team.
Can you trust it? Is this a service worth paying for? Well, you’ve already seen the title of this article, so you know what our answer is:
No, you cannot trust it and, no, it’s not worth paying for.
Buying a FindLaw website or investing in its SEO and marketing services is never a good idea.
You might be thinking that’s just bias since we want to sell you on our website design and marketing services. But you don’t have to take our word for it. There are hundreds of complaints online from former employees and clients—not to mention the plethora of clients who have fled FindLaw and shared their story as they moved over to Trial Law Digital.
So, if you’re currently mulling the decision to buy a FindLaw website, let’s present you with the facts so you can see why we (and many, many others) don’t believe this is a good idea.
What They Want You to Think About a FindLaw Website
According to FindLaw, its lawyer directory and website receives 8 million visitors every month. That number is absolutely nothing to scoff at, which is why so many law firms are probably lured into paying for a FindLaw website that also comes with a companion directory listing.
FindLaw says that it has designed over 17,000 mobile-friendly websites for law firms. Each website is said to be:
Mobile-friendly
Custom-fitted to the law firm (note that it doesn’t say “custom-designed”)
Created by award-winning designers (though no proof of those awards are given)
Written by experts
Optimized for search
One additional point that’s made about these websites over and over is the inclusion of click-to-call phone numbers. It’s an odd selling point, but it’s something to take note of as we move on in our discussion regarding FindLaw.
Of course, the FindLaw website is only the tip of the iceberg. FindLaw also sells marketing services—PPC, content marketing, social media, web chat services, client intake forms, and what they refer to as “integrated marketing solutions”.
When you’re looking for a quick, painless, and relatively affordable solution, this might seem perfect. FindLaw has a plethora of resources on law and they seem to be a leading expert on the matter, so they must understand how to build websites and handle marketing for this niche.
Right?
Well, the truth about what you get isn’t quite like the picture it paints.
What Real People Have to Say About FindLaw Websites
Before we break down everything that’s wrong with a FindLaw website, we want you to first hear from real people that have either worked for FindLaw or who have hired the company to build their website.
Let’s start with some employee reviews from GlassDoor:
50% Satisfaction Rate
“Bottom line is the products don’t work a lot of the time. They work great for a few firms but many had issues. Over 50% of my sales resulted in unhappy customers. I left because I could no longer look clients in the eye and tell them to buy.”
Fulfillment Issues
“-More angry clients than happy ones. Dealing with customer satisfaction issues does NOT MAKE YOU MONEY -Products don’t work well overall -Overpriced -Gaining a negative reputation… -Issues with billing -Issues with fulfillment (building sites, social media, blogs)…”
Overpriced Services
“Findlaw has an awful reputation among quite a few of its clients, many of whom are overpaying for a poor overall service and looking to cancel. The companies [sic] SEO and Website Design are behind the competition and overpriced for the return most customers will receive over the term of their contract.”
SiteJabber doesn’t give FindLaw as abysmal of a score as some review sites, but still continues the same line of logic when it comes to complaints:
Poor Customer Service
“This is a company that is known for selling products on several year contracts and then leaving the client in the wind. Service is terrible and don’t expect them to do anything with your account once set up. Even if your [sic] spending thousand [sick] of dollars with Findlaw every month, it is not important enough for them to follow through on what they sold to my Firm.”
No Results
“Lots of promises at the beginning and several phone conferences before website is off and running. Then 5 minutes of social media advice and you are on your own. Awful company. Virtually no new cases, and we are competing with our competition within their Findlaw sub directory.
“Worst and most dishonest scam artists I’ve ever dealt with.”
0 Inquiries
“I signed up for a year to the tune of $18,000 on the representation that they would design a ‘state of the art’ website that would ‘drive business’ to my firm. They designed what looked like a pre-packaged, canned site. Pretty much looked like something that sold cleaning supplies. After a year of ‘optimization’, I got NOT ONE inquiry. Not one. Not one phone call. Not one e-mail. Not one client. Not one.”
The High Price of a FindLaw Website
We’d also like to point you to a post in the Law Firm subreddit called, “Findlaw. Worth it?” The question, of course, is whether or not they should talk to the FindLaw representative who keeps calling about their directory and website design services.
One of the most interesting answers comes from Sam Glover, the Editor-in-Chief of Lawyerist.com:
“FindLaw can produce good-quality websites, and can do better-than average SEO work if you are willing to sign a multi-year contract for ~10x the going rate for those services and give up the right to your content.”
While many of the complaints above focus on the various faults they’ve encountered with FindLaw, Glover aptly sums up everything that is wrong with this service by acknowledging that a good website is possible… but that it comes at a steep cost.
In this next section, we’re going to dive a bit deeper into why it’s never worth it to buy a FindLaw website. At any price.
What You Really Need to Know About a FindLaw Website
Look, we get it. You’re busy. You want an expert designer or marketer to name a price, so you can pay them to take care of your law firm website for you. But a FindLaw website is not the solution.
Here are 9 reasons why FindLaw is to be avoided at all costs.
1. It’s Expensive
A FindLaw website is not cheap. In fact, you’re likely to pay more to rent a FindLaw website (more on that below) than you are to buy a website that a professional web design agency custom-builds for you.
Many FindLaw customers who have jumped ship and come to Trial Law Digital have told us they were paying anywhere between $1,400 and $5,000 every month to rent a website.
The true cost of building a website for your law firm? If you use WordPress and do it yourself, it will maybe cost $150 a month (with some upfront costs like a premium WordPress theme and copywriting services). If you pay an agency or designer, upfront costs will be more, but the cost to maintain will remain the same.
2. It’s Temporary
A major difference between a FindLaw website and, say, one you’ve built on your own or through another web design service is the matter of ownership.
Think of it like renting a home. FindLaw says, “Don’t worry. We’ve taken care of building the structure for you. It’s sturdy and well-made. All you have to do now is live in it.”
So, you set up shop within your new FindLaw digs. Your logo and firm name are on the site. The content is personalized with your messaging. And look! There’s beautiful imagery, a boatload of blog content, and SEO already done for you. Might as well kick back and enjoy your law firm’s new digital home.
But what happens when you decide to move from that home? You might be able to take the domain name with you (if you purchased one on your own), but that design and content aren’t going anywhere if you didn’t pay the high price of having a custom-built website made.
This is FindLaw’s ownership clause:
It has been updated in recent years in response to a number of news outlets blowing the whistle on its unfair and unclear ownership terms. That said, there’s still some much to be concerned about. In other words, if you move your website away from FindLaw:
You lose access to stock photos, call-tracking numbers, live chat modules, and so on.
You lose access to source code and files used to build your website.
Your ability to license the website created for you exists while you pay for services with FindLaw.
This is not to mention the fact that trying to move a website from FindLaw’s proprietary platform to any other (e.g. WordPress, Wix, Joomla, etc.) is near-impossible.
So, if you’re not able to commit to this for the long-term, think about the costs you’ll have to deal with down the line to have a completely new site built. Also, consider how important it is to you to have full ownership and control over your site.
3. The Contract Is Lengthy
On a related note, FindLaw’s website services contract is iron-clad and lengthy. And, by lengthy, we’re talking a three-year term, on average.
4. Maintenance Is Difficult
FindLaw websites are notoriously difficult to manage and maintain.
Websites are built on FindLaw’s proprietary and highly antiquated ASP.net content management system framework. When changes are needed, you have to rely on the assistance of FindLaw and, of course, it comes at a price. Even then, getting those changes implemented or getting any support from them at all isn’t a given.
5. There’s No Exclusivity
Once you’re signed up, FindLaw’s representatives are constantly going to hound you to buy more products in order to make your website better. Some will even bully you into buying more with the threat that, if you don’t use it, they’ll sell it to the competitor. It’s this constant worry about the competition that can drive law firms to make bad purchasing decisions as it relates to their website and marketing.
There’s also the fact that FindLaw has no issue working for a high quantity of competing law firms within an area. When designing low-quality, lookalike websites for law firms, this can become especially problematic as all websites end up resembling one another.
6. Many Websites Are Pre-Built
As Lawyerist’s Glover explained, law firms that pay top dollar for a FindLaw website can end up with something custom-built and truly optimized for search. But how many law firms are willing to shell out 10 times the standard rate of a website to do that? For those of you considering the compromise, consider what a pre-built website actually is.
There are two ways FindLaw likely sells these:
The first is by custom-fitting a pre-designed template to a law firm’s website. The template is designed well enough and seems to work on all mobile devices. FindLaw assures the law firm that it’s filled with optimized content, though that it’s probably boilerplate (meaningless) copy, too.
Now, think about how many other law firms are considering this option. If FindLaw’s estimates are correct, how many of those 17,000+ law firms compete within your market and niche? And how many do you think would choose a similar-looking design as the one you’ve opted for?
The second way FindLaw can sell cheaper website designs is by flipping websites they can prove do well in search.
It’s like flipping a house. Basically, they design a generic website for a specific legal niche (e.g. divorce, accident settlements, family law, etc.) It’s optimized for the kinds of search terms people use to find local lawyers (e.g. “Chicago divorce lawyer”). And, because it’s been live for some time, it does well in search rankings… though that doesn’t say anything about conversion rates of visitors to clients (especially since there’s been no real business behind the site!)
They customize the logo and law firm name, add some custom information about lawyers and location, and hand it over to the highest bidder.
These options are risky because it takes away the personalization that’s needed to make a true connection with clients. Also, pre-built sites can lead to issues in search if duplicate content (content copied across a number of sites) is detected by Google.
7. Designs Are Lacking
We had a designer take a look at a dozen websites FindLaw currently powers. Templating aside, we wanted to know what they thought of the results of this expensive website design service.
Here are some of the commonalities found across these websites:
Oversized Headers: The top headers are too big, especially for mobile device users. While having a clickable phone number may be important, a user shouldn’t have to scroll in order to find the actual content.
Overly Long Home Pages: Many home pages are poorly written. Modern design dictates that home pages should be short and to the point. These tend to be mindless brain dumps with too much copy.
Identical Design Elements: Although designs and images differ from site to site, the basic layouts and key elements are the same (even things like live chat look identical). This can seriously hurt brand identity if a direct competitor uses the same service.
Poor Planning: The pages themselves don’t seem to be very well-thought-out. They often contain an excess of content (probably for the purposes of keyword stuffing) and there’s an overwhelming amount of calls-to-action for users to consider.
Outdated Designs: Some of the websites look outdated in design. If templates provided to clients are a few years older, and there’s no one to steer them away from those choices, law firms could unintentionally end up with something that looks like it was designed five years ago.
A website that’s designed for a modern-day audience is a critical part of every business’s SEO strategy. Knowing that this part is lacking, let’s take a look at what else is going on with FindLaw’s SEO tactics.
8. SEO Tactics Are Shady
There was a time in the early ‘00s when it was revealed that FindLaw was utilizing a black hat (bad) SEO tactic known as a link scheme. Basically, it goes like this:
Marketers are aware that Google rewards websites with high-quality internal links and backlinks. This is usually a signal that a website is an authoritative source and one that deserves to rank highly in search. However, many agencies (including FindLaw) took advantage of this and tried to game the system by selling text links in their websites.
It appears that this has since been resolved, but that doesn’t mean FindLaw is using white hat (good) SEO practices now.
Here is what we know about current-day tactics:
Keyword research for custom websites aren’t great and there’s no strategy done outside the initial call with clients.
Many of the blog posts written for these websites are poorly composed. They’re too short, have little to no structure, are stuffed full of unrelated or nonsensical keywords, and contain no images.
Blog posts are almost always lacking compelling stories, too. There’s not much worth reading. It’s more about adding new pages to the site rather than adding value for visitors.
For the most part, attempts to optimize content for search are relatively shallow. While blog posts will contain links to high-authority sources, many of them go directly to FindLaw properties. If anything, SEO tactics on these sites are working to benefit the FindLaw in establishing authority since 17,000+ websites link to it (in the blog as well as in every footer…)
9. Poor Quality of Leads
Here’s the thing: many FindLaw websites will come out looking professionally designed and will rank at the top of search results due to link-building and content generation efforts. However, if the actual quality of content fails to connect with visitors, the site won’t actually be able to do what it needs to do. And that is to get you new clients.
This is ultimately the main failing of FindLaw’s website services. Yes, they’re expensive. Yes, they may do shady things to acquire top rankings in Google. But the worst offender is the fact that these websites do not get law firms any clients.
It doesn’t matter how optimized for search a website is, at the end of the day, the website needs to be optimized for your audience which means accurately reflecting who you are and what makes you different from other law firms. And this is something that FindLaw does not do.
The Bottom Line: Avoid a FindLaw Website at All Costs
Previously, we talked about why you should never let Google set up your AdWords account. While the configuration itself would be fine and it would check off all the necessary boxes to get your pay-per-click campaign running, Google doesn’t have your best interests at heart. It’s the same thing with FindLaw.
Remember: FindLaw is a website that began as a legal resource. Providing law firm website design services is a way to monetize that business model… but it’s, unfortunately, being handled poorly.
You deserve a website that is:
All yours and the property of no one else
Affordable
Easy to manage
Modernly designed
Personalized to your law firm
Ethically and correctly optimized for search
Effective in converting visitors into clients
We recognize that the cost and time that goes into building a website—not to mention coding knowledge—is intimidating. You want an easy solution, but a FindLaw website is not it. You deserve to own and control your own website, and to not have to be charged an arm and a leg for lackluster results.
If you’d like help getting your law firm website up and running (or you want help moving away from FindLaw), get in touch with us today. We’d be happy to help!

Car insurance / ownership question?
Right now I live with my parents, we have 3 cars and there are 3 drivers. All of the cars are in my parents name. One of the cars is a total beater and was given to me as my own car, but we never bothered changing the ownership over because we didn't think it would live very long. Now, I'm getting married and moving in with my husband. I'd love to take 'my' car with me but to transfer it to my name would cost a fortune in repairs as it wont pass the safety as it is. It's not a bad car, but things like the parking break don't work and the suspension is awful and I know if I take it in to get the safety done they'll give me 7 days to do several thousand dollars of pointless repairs or scrap my car. My question is can I continue to drive this car while it is under my parents name? I will be living at a different adress from them also. I'm currently also under there insurance policy as a registered driver on this car. Can I continue paying the policy to continue to be an insured driver while living at a different address? If anyone's had a similar situation or is in the insurance business please let me know! I'm stressing out about potentially having to junk a car that drives perfectly fine due to politics. How does life insurance work?

Term Life Insurance Ownership?
My wife and I are in our 40's and 50's. We have created A/B trusts and transferred our assets to them, and expect to have estates that will benefit from the estate tax saving these trusts afford. We recently both purchased $1M 10-year renewable term life insurance policies that we expect to keep for 10 years. We chose not to use life insurance trusts because the purpose of the policies is to replace the lost income of the deceased spouse if one of us dies relatively soon, not to increase our final estate, and the trusts are somewhat costly. We each specified our own trusts as the beneficiaries, because we want the disposition of assets specified there to be used for this money. The trusts provide for the income, and principle if needed, to be paid to the spouse, and for the remainder to be paid to our child at the remaining spouses death. The question of ownership of the policies is less clear. My lawyer says that it doesn't make much difference who owns them, because the value (estate) taxed is only one year's premium, not the $1M. My accountant says that the $1M is taxed, and that each policy should be owned by the other spouse to avoid tax on that amount. A friend said that there's no way to avoid or significantly decrease the tax, so just leave the ownership as is (each spouse owns their own policy). A further fly in the ointment is that the insurance company (Massachusetts SBLI) makes some forms of trust ownership more difficult and costly. I'm confused. What ownership is the best? What is the benefit of that choice? Thanks for your time.""

I plead a DUI down to a wet and reckless for a reduced charge. This was over a year ago, and my insurance premium hasn't changed a bit. Home insurance wants to raise dwelling coverege?
I purchased a townhome in March of 2013 for $183k in Florida. It is in a 200-unit subdivision that just completed all construction and sold out all last remaining units a few months ago. When I signed up for home insurance, the insurance company set my dwelling coverage to $183k. I told them that it isn't accurate for them to base dwelling coverage on market price because the replacement cost must be lower since market price includes land and profits the builder makes. Long story short, they convinced me to stay at $183 because they said costs were rising and so forth. I decided not to fight it. Fast forward to this year, and now they are proposing to increase the dwelling coverage to $203k (11% increase). Funny thing is that for my exact townhome model, about 20 units were sold in the last year with prices averaging in the upper $180s (slightly above what I paid). I called the insurance company to let them have a piece of my mind, and they told me they use an independent 3rd party company to price the replacement costs. I told them it's BS because it's way above average market price and replacement costs is always below market price. They asked me to send them documents from when I purchased the home that details the construction materials used and upgrades so that they can reevaluate the dwelling coverage. My question is, why is the burden of proof on me to prove to the insurance company that dwelling coverage should be lowered? Why can't they just reduce it to what I tell them to reduce it to? After all, I am the customer who pays for the insurance. If my house is ever destroyed and I underinsured, that's my problem not theirs. I just find it strange that I'm paying for an insurance service and the insurance company decides what the replacement cost is, not me. Even though it doesn't affect them.""

Could health insurance work if we used the free market system?
The history of Health Insurance is that employers started offering it as a benefit as a way to entice employees to work for them. Prior to the Affordable Health Care Act, the only real choice consumers had was to go with whatever their HR Director, or Benefits Director, said they could have. I've wondered for a long time, why does health insurance not work like car insurance, for example. Why not completely seperate the relationship between Health Insurance providers and Employers and let people get Insurance from whomever they choose? Can someone please explain to me why we don't severe the dependency between employers and health insurance?""

How does the age of a car factor into the cost of car insurance?
Obviously there is more than one factor that influences the cost of car insurance. I know that when a car is newer, it usually costs more to insure than a car that is older. For example, a 2009 Chevy Impala is more expensive to insure than a 1983 VW. But, suppose I bought a vehicle like a 1957 Lincoln, 1955 GMC, or a 1956 Plymouth (or some other car from that time period)? If it wasnt something that people easily recognize like more popular cars from that time period, would it cost less to insure? (They arent as recognizable or popular, in the sense that if one was driving a 1957 Chevy, or a 1959 Cadillac or a Thunderbird, most people would instantly know what it was, but if I drove a 1957 Lincoln or a 1955 GMC, most people wouldnt immediately know what it was.)""

How do Insurance companies pay for medical bills?
I was in an accident last year that led to me being in the ICU for a few days. I incurred a hefty medical bill as a result. The accident was not my fault, and the driver was insured. I am going to a mediation to decide how the money the insurance company can pay will be divided between those of us that were injured. My question is, when we come to an agreement, will the insurance company send me a check or will they send a payment to the hospital where I owe money?""

I am looking for liability insurance for my business for wedding and events. They asked me if I was doing any other type of work currently. My reponse was that yes I am involved in being cameraman for one project and editor for another. I have not signed a contract or getting paid for any of these projects, simply volunteer. They came back stating that if they were to insurance me, I as an invidividual would no longer be able to be part of any project or post anything of my personal stuff on youtube. Help with Car insurance cost?
ok so im 17 1/2 year old male and ive been driving since i was 15 1/2. As of right now im covered under my parents insurance with Mercury auto insurance and i pay $500 for 6 months of coverage ($1000 a year). I am currently covered for the three cars that my family owns 1996 Acura 2.5 TL (my crappy car) 2008 MBenz C300 (moms) 2011 Mazda 3 (Dads) So heres my question.. My car (the TL) is starting to break down and the cost of service is outmatching the value of the car. So ive been saving up to try to get another car and i am going to put down 40-50% of the money and my parents are gonna pay for the rest. The cost of the car is not the issue i was wondering more about my cost of insurance for the cars that i am interested in. I know that my most accurate response would be from the Insurance companies themselves, but i dont have time right now. I just wanted to know what you guys thought about how much i should pay per month for these cars. So the cars im interested in ( theres alot lol) are: 90's Toyota MR2 (preferably turbo, but i could live without it) Subaru WRX (Non-STI) Nissan 350Z Honda S2000 BMW 330i (coupe only) 00'-04' Ford Mustang GT There are others but i cant remember them right off the top of my head.. I know its gonna be WAY more expensive then what i pay now and that most of these cars are 2 door and 2 seat which will just make it worse. But im really willing to work for it and like i said i pay my own insurance bill. So how much do you think each of these cars cost for monthly insurance? And of the cars listed which would you most recommend?""

How much money does your insurance go up after a car accident that was your fault?
I am doing an essay on distracted drivers and I just wanted to know the statistics.
How much can I expect my car insurance to go up?
I was in an accident tonight where I was at fault. I was turning left, and my view was blocked by a large line of cars with a few large trucks in front, so I couldn't see anything. I inched out a little bit to see if I could see if there was any oncoming traffic and a car came flying out from behind the lineup and glanced off of my front end, and skidded into another car. After the writeup was done, I got a citation for $84.00 for failure to yield the right-of-way while making a left hand turn in a 3 car accident, and got 4 points tacked onto my license. One woman was apparently hurt , when she hit her head on the steering wheel, and said she needed an ambulance, but she walked over to the ambulance when it arrived all by herself, didn't seem too hurt. Anyways, I am 18 years old and this is my first accident. I was wondering how much I can expect my insurance to go up per month and how long it is going to be raised up?""

Question about SR22 insurance in NJ?
My live in fiance just got a DWI. I'm trying to plan ahead regarding the car insurance situation and I was wondering.....Currently he is a driver on my policy. If he gets his own policy and I keep the policy I currently have, are MY rates going to go sky high also? Am I just better off joining the assigned risk pool with him? Does the 3 years start when the SR22 is filed or does it start on the date of the DWI conviction?""

Maternity related services considered inpatient for insurance?
Most individual plans (87%) do not offer maternity coverage. I was fortunate enough to still be covered under an old employer by paying COBRA, and a majority of my expenses were covered. I had twins and had to have a C-Section. So now that I know I'm most likely to have a C-Section again, and who knows, another set of twins! (complete surprise) and am still of child bearing age. I am now under an individual plan, that does not offer maternity coverage. I was reading under the 'Inpatient' services and it listed this: Unlimited coverage is provided for medically necessary physician and surgeon services, semi-private rooms, operating rooms and related facilities, intensive and coronary care units, laboratory, x-rays, radiology services and procedures, medications and biologicals, anesthesia, special duty nursing as prescribed, short-term rehabilitation services, nursing care, meals and special diets So anyone who has experience or knowledge, would something like a C-Section be covered under inpatient? What does maternity coverage only cover normally. That $60*** bill scares me! Also, I keep reading about a new health care bill effective 2014 where individual plans must include maternity as an essential benefit. Anyone have any more details about that? State specific etc?""

What is most important in a car insurance plan?
Okay, I know this is a complicated question that I'm asking on Yahoo! Answers, but hopefully somebody can give a credible answer. I'm about to get my first car and I want to make sure I have the proper insurance. I don't want an insurance company talking me into buying more than I need, nor do I want to be under-protected. Is there any way to get my health insurance to cover the cost of a body lift?
6'1 , 25 y/o male, spent the majority of the past 4 years dropping from 430lbs to a current 198lbs. The weight loss has left me with large amounts of sagging skin on my inner thighs, pelvis, abdomen, chest and upper arms. All of these areas are covered in large amounts of stretch marks as well, which leads me to believe these areas will never recover without surgery. Now my chest and arms are not nearly as big of an issue as working out at the gym has started to fill these areas in with muscle, but no amount of situps are tightening the skin around my abdomen, and no amount of leg exercises are firming up my inner thighs. Cardio actually seeems to make the issue worse as I lose even more weight. I've also begun to notice that the more the skin sags around my torso, the more my lower back hurts. Also, chafing on my inner thighs and buttocks makes cardio pardon the pun, but a pain in the ***. I know insurance companies don't like to cover cosmetic surgeries but there has to be something that can be done.Any ideas?""

Short-term insurance coverage and ACA?

The downside is that after 12 months of consecutive coverage, he has to sit out for 2 months (no insurance coverage). Not ideal, I know but it's all he can afford at this point. It's only $70, so I'll pay it off myself & not tell my parents (I'm 19, they pay for my car insurance since I'm in college and can't make enough money to pay for it myself). The officer said that the ticket will not give me any points or make my insurance rate go up. I was wondering if my insurance (Progressive) will be notified at all & the information be visible to my parents. This is in Maryland by the way. PS. I know texting & driving is dumb... I try not to do it, but since I'm fairly good at it, I have done it a lot. But after yesterday, I'm done.""

So I asked my friends (because my mom doesnt drive, and I dont get along too well with my family) and he is willing to put me under his insurance... But can he? Is it true about how you can avoid paying car insurance?
I was once told by one of my professors that the law allows you to not pay car insurance as long as you have a certain amount of money on reserve for paying the cost of the accident (if the judge found you to be the cause.) Help with Car insurance cost?
ok so im 17 1/2 year old male and ive been driving since i was 15 1/2.

DASH and Masternode Coins – plus Shared Masternode Services
Episode 19 – DASH and Masternode Coins
If you happen to be a subscriber and remember back to Episode 12, which was titled “ROI Coin”, you will remember that episode as a sort of discovery of what I called a relatively “rare event” wherein the coin was released without a so-called ICO event, and which was released as a mineable coin that would grow organically over time. Well, since that podcast I’ve learned a few things – 1) these types of coins are not quite as rare as I made them out to be in that episode, and 2) these types of “non-ICO” coins, while they can certainly be characterized as such, are by no means all the same, and not even structured precisely in the same way. They share similarities, but there are important nuances, which you should be aware of as you explore this segment of the crypto currency space. And finally, just like a typical ICO, it is absolutely critical that you do every bit as much due diligence before investing a penny into any of these, however, the due diligence is rather different as you will see.
DASH – the ancestor of Masternode Coins
The other aspect of these types of coins is one that is, at least to me, very compelling for a number of reasons. I’m referring to the Masternode concept. First, when we are discussing masternodes, I think it’s only fair that we give credit where credit is due, and this would be to the DASH project that was, I believe, the pioneer of the masternode concept. And in keeping with this podast, we are going to aim for a foundational understanding. It should be understood that at the time of the DASH project, the number of full nodes running Bitcoin had decreased in what appeared to be a trend. Needless to say, the price of bitcoin had not yet spiked to astronomical levels, and so the point of the Masternode in DASH’s view was to provide more incentive for someone to run a full node. And so they invented the idea of a node wherein the node operator puts up a bond of collateral to operate the node. In the case of DASH, it was 1000 DASH tokens. Along with the collateral of the node, there comes a block reward. You are probably familiar with block rewards from Bitcoin – but in DASH there is a two-tiered networks, with the miners creating new blocks and the masternodes providing specific functions – in the case of DASH that would be PrivateSend, InstantSend and some governance functions – for instance, voting. In this type of two-tiered network, the block reward for every block is split between the masternodes and the miners – 45% and 45% respectively – with 10% going to a decentralized treasury system. In this way the masternode can be used as a sort of annuity that pays regularly, without sacrificing capital. And this capital – the 1000 DASH is never forfeited – but it is required to run the node – and if any of the coins are sold, then the masternode is removed from the network, and the rewards stop. So this collateral system provides two critical functions – it incentivizes participants to run a node – which as in all blockchains, means a healthy and secure network, and secondly, it provides a reduction in the volatility of the currency. The first thing we should take a moment to mention is the success of these ideas. First, as an investment. In January of 2015, which is about 36 months ago, a masternode for DASH cost, and was worth $1,262.00. On year later in January of 2016, it cost and was worth $14,447.00. One year after that – as of yesterday, it was worth 1.07 million dollars. By all accounts, this makes the run-up to Bitcoin seem pale in comparison. It’s successful in ways that other currencies are not. For instance, because of the 10% so-called “treasury” fund, there is a monthly budget of about $8million to fund various projects. And as you might imagine, the masternodes are the ones which vote on the allocation of project funding using this treasury. In this way, DASH is a community quite like any other in the crypto currency space.
Another thing to understand about DASH is that it is the ancestor, if you will, of many of the plethora of masternode coins that now appear on a weekly basis. So understand how DASH works and where it came from will help you understand most of the coins that we will discuss on this episode.
OK, so now you know understand what a masternode is, and I would venture to say that most of the people listening to this podcast are not going to be able to purchase a DASH masternode after listening to this episode, but you might be interested to know that the popularity of this class of coins that are springing up weekly are driven by the availability of masternodes, especially at early stages of the coins development.
Masternodes and Accessibility
Now before I talk in detail about the lifecyle of how these coins are released and work, I want to explain why I’m doing this episode and why I’m extremely interested in these coins – first, I will recognize now and later in this episode that in this space, just like the ICO space, there is a high risk profile and a fair number of outright scams. But there are also plenty of coins that are working out well for people – and here is why. With the recent actions of the SEC, we are starting to see two trends in Initial Coin Offerings – and I’m talking about the token sales now – – ICO’s – the first is a barring of United States investors – the second is a shift toward private sales, and SAFT-based agreements to accredited investors only and with high minimum investments. Just last week we saw the Bee Token sale to accredited investors with a 50 ETHER minimum. This is a trend – and this class of coin does not have that characteristic at all because with a rare exception of masternode auctions I’ll mention in a minute, these coins are not direct sales at all. They are accessible to just about anyone who has the interest to participate. And so for me, and I think you’ll agree after you hear my own personal story about one of these coins, that these coins represent a way for everyone to get involved with crypto-currency in a relatively low-risk way.
Before I talk about any specific coins, and before I tell my very own story of dipping a toe into this space, let me talk about the typical lifecycle of one of these coins:
It starts out with an announcement on BitCoinTalk – and if you remember the ROI Coin announcement, that’s about how they go – it’s usually a POW/POS, which allows both miners and people to stake coins, with the promise of masternodes. The mining algorithm is established, which very often drives the audience of the miners. For instance, on a coin last week I read a comment like “Another scrypt coin for rich asic miners” which was most likely written by someone who is mining their GPU or maybe with a few of them. The other thing that is mentioned in the announcement is how many coins are pre-mined. This is usually 5% – if it’s more than that, it raised some eyebrows, and that’s one of the ways in which these coins are judged. A high pre-mine will attract criticism, and will cause suspicion, since the value of the stake of the original developer may provide too much temptation to continue the project if the value increases pretty quickly.
The next step is for pools to feature the coin so that miners can create coins and introduce tokens into circulation. At this point, the concept “circulation”, however, doesn’t have much meaning because the coins are not on exchanges yet. But mining is important because it’s the only way that coins are generated. This step is fraught with peril, however. The biggest problem here can be when the developer makes a mistake and allows a large percentage of early coins to be mined by just a few or even one address. This was the near-fatal mistake of B3 coin, and you might be surprised that this was a mistake with DASH – where fully 10% of the entire supply of DASH coins was mined in the first two days, by just a few Amazon ECS customers who were mining in the very beginning. This was attributed, by the way, to a bug in the code that surfaced when they cloned the code from LiteCoin – and the developer offered to start completely over, but the community said – nope, don’t worry about it. Let’s move forward. Surprisingly, they did. Interestingly, the BitCoinWiki site has a page up named “Comparison of CryptoCurrenies” that states that because of this fact the Master Node algorithm for DASH has technically been in a failure node from the beginning. And it was just last week that I found an announcement page of one of these types of coins which was only a few pages – when I read all of the pages I discovered that the developer had made the same mistake, apologized all over himself, shut down the bitcointalk thread and said – sorry, I’ll try this again soon. But it’s not just bugs that are the problem – it’s the likes of NiceHash. What a coin needs at this early stage is a distributed set of miners if at all possible – the ideal situation would be many miners receiving about the same amount of reward. Of course, that’s impossible, even on the so-called ASIC resistant coins, because there are plenty of people that have phenomenal GPU rigs that have and insane amount of hash – but this is a real problem, because if just a few addresses obtain all of the blocks, miners will get discouraged pretty quickly. The trick in this stage is therefore to attract a lot of miners without getting blasted by the big guys.
The next natural step – and by the way, not all of these steps are completely linear – they can be done in parallel – is to introduce masternodes. Masternodes usually have a high number of coins that must be used as collateral – 1,000 usually being the minimum, but some coins have as many as 10,000 coins. This ensures scarcity and also provides value. This step is usually conducted in parallel with the next stage I mention, which is getting listed on exchanges, so that people don’t just have to mine for masternodes – because frankly, that can take a long time to mine 1000 or more coins, depending on your equipment. Generally, this step consists of releasing code and instructions for installing a masternode, but on the Lizus Discord channel last week I noticed that the Lizus team was auctioning off masternodes – well, not precisely that – I have to be careful because they came under fire for this – so I’ll be very specific – they were auctioning off blocks of 1000 coins (a masternode required 5000) which could be used to create a masternode. And the price of these blocks of coins, if you did actually want to run a masternode for that coin, was about $65,000 for a masternode at the price of BitCoin on that day I saw the auctions. This, by the way, is unusual as far as I can tell, and to be honest, I think it’s a bit unfortunate, because a great benefit of these coins is the fact that they are accessible to those who don’t have $50,000 to drop on a sketchy investment. I can only hope that this doesn’t become a trend for all of these coins – although, even if it does, there are way to participate through a shared masternode service which I’ll explain in a moment.
The next step – which as I said is actually a parallel step – is getting listed on an exchange. This is pretty much critical to the success of a coin, because it allows people to participate and construct master nodes without having to mine for coins. The challenge here is two fold – first, the big exchanges, like BitThumb, and Bitfinex and the other enormous exchanges will not list these new coins. And there are not a lot of stable minor exchanges that will list these coins. Those that are relatively stable, like Cryptopia, charge high fees to list the coins. To give you an idea, two weeks ago I was on a Discord server of a coin that what complaining that Cryptopia was gauging the coins by charging 5 Bitcoin to list their coin – but a week later the price had risen to 7 BTC, and three days ago I heard the figure 10 BTC – and yesterday, and this may be a rumor – I heard that they raised the listing fee to 30 BTC. Just to be clear, 10 BTC is about $140,000 right now. Thirty approaches half a million dollars. That’s a listing fee. And when asked why they were conducting these 1000 coin auctions last week, Lizus explained that they needed the money to be listed on exchanges. But getting on an exchange is a life-or-death milestone for a coin. I would say that if you go poking around you’d find a graveyard of coins that never quite made it an exchange. In fact, you don’t even have to go far – just go to deadcoins.com and you’ll see what I mean.
For masternode coins, a critical step is to get listed on the masternode sites. There are about a half dozen main ones – masternodes.pro, masternodes.online, mnrank.com to name a few. This is very, very important because those sites list the return on investment, which is the primary reason for participants to get involved – the ROI. Speaking of ROI – it’s important to understand that in the beginning of most coins, the ROI tends to be large, and that’s mainly to attract attention as well as to establish strong incentive to create a healthy network of masternodes. If you remember by episode about B3, this is a bit of a delicate dance here. You want a high ROI to attract masternodes and participants, but you don’t want it to be so high so as to create massive inflation to destroy the value of the token. And you should understand that the ROI will naturally decrease over time for these. Thus, when we talk about the strategy of participating in this space later in this episode, remember that fact. These masternode site listings, however, are almost as important as exchange listings when it comes to the success of this type of coin.
The next milestone after the exchanges is to get listed on coinsmarkets.com. This happens after a certain amount of trading volume, so this is an obvious linear step in that a coin must be listed on an exchange in order for coinsmarket to list them. This is a significant milestone and you’ll see the result when I tell my little story coming up.
So, those are the high-level steps – if a coin can make it through these steps, there is a high likelihood that the coin will last some time – long enough, perhaps, for you to achieve a return on your investment.
How i turned $150 into $4000 in Three Weeks
Ok, so now to my story. This story is completely factual, with no exaggeration – no made up numbers. This is precisely how it played out. First, I’ll explain that I’ve been eyeing this space since the ROI coin and B3 episodes, which aired in November. At that time, there were about six or seven masternodes that were going for about $3 – $5,000 – which, by the way, are now work multiples of that. Coins like INNOVA , VIVO and the like. And in the last week of December, after I had returned home from outside the country, I was ready to give it a shot. But I was still a little bit skeptical, especially after B3, so I decided to risk a much smaller amount. And fortunately, you can do that.

I first invested this by finding what is known as a Shared Masternode Service. The one I found was by Ghostminer. A shared masternode service is simply someone who collects enough tokens for a given coin for a masternode, fires up the masternode and then pays out according to the percentage that each participant invested. In this case, Ghostminer collects a 5% fee and pays daily. And so using this service I sent 50 Polis tokens to Ghostminer for a 1/20 seat of a 1000 masternode for Polis on December 27, 2017. At the time the price of Polis was about $3.00, and a masternode was $3,000. My investment was about $150. Then, between 12/29 and yesterday, I received an average of 3.65 tokens per day in return for my “stake.” So now I have the original 50 tokens (well, I don’t have them – the Ghostminer masternode service does), plus a little over 49 in my own wallet. So that’s about 99 coins. But two or three days ago they were listed on Coinmarketcap (stage 5 of the journey above) and now the price is $49.80 as of this moment – at least shown there. The only exchange that works right now for them is stocks.exchange , and I can tell you that this exchange barely works – but anyway, if I wanted to buy some now it would certainly cost me about $49, one way or another. That makes my original investment of $150 on 12/27/18 worth, today, about $4,900. At this point, I’m free to either send Ghostminer the 50 coins I have earned for a second seat of Polis – OR .. and this is probably what I will do – I can instead keep the 50 coins on my shared seat, and receive the 2 or 3 each day, and trade the other 50 coins for a seat on a newer, possibly less expensive coin in the hopes of repeating this. This is how people use Share Hosting services to work their way up the chain of masternode investment. Naturally, I’m also free to cash in all of the coins and take US Dollars. But as for me, I don’t think I’ll do that just yet. The most important part is to make sure to find a shared masternode service as honest and professional as Ghostminer’s. You can find a link to the Discord channel on ico41.com on the post that is associated with this episode.
Now remember – this started with about $150. So this is what I mean that along with the concept of a Shared Masternode service, this is the type of crypto currency market that allows almost everyone to participate.
Buyer Beware and Due Diligence
But I want to once again emphasize that this space has its shares of scammers as well. First, the shared masternode service is very important – I have found Ghostminer to be absolutely trustworthy, and since everything is conducted in the open on Discord – every payout is announced – I can tell you that many multiples of transactions have been handled without any complaints from this service. So be sure to find someone as trustworthy as Ghostminer if you enter this space using a shared service.
Secondly, you need to read every post on the Bitcointalk Announcement for the coin, and join the Discord and Telegram and read and read and read. You can visit the website, but that source will not be as useful as listening to people interact and reading the community postings. There will most likely not be a Team to look at, or a company – there will just be a developer. And I have seen coins where the developer ran away from the project after people invested in masternodes, so be very careful in this space.
Thirdly, you must watch this carefully – there will come a time when the masternode will not pay like it did in the beginning, and then you have to decide whether you want to cash out. Also, the valuations of these coins have very often been described as pump and dump. Therefore, you may wish to take that into consideration in the timing of your investing.
Fourth – to choose the coin, head over to masternodes.online and first sort by ROI. Then look carefully at the number of masternodes, the return on investment, the number of coins for a masternode, how long the coin has been around – and then if you are using a shared Service like Ghostminer’s, make sure the coin you are interested in is supported by the service. Remember to do all your due diligence, especially if you are spending a significant amount – which, as we all know, is relative. As of today, the top coins on that site are ARTAX, POLIS, which I see has fallen about 14% in a day. Then there’s NUMUS and MUCOIN. Of course, next week or the week after that we will see a whole new list, I’m pretty sure.
Fifth — this is not easy. There is nothing easy about any of this. I may have made my experience with Polis sound easy, but it wasn’t – be prepared to deal with Wallet issues, If you are technical enough and have the money and you want to run your own masternode, be prepared for a lot of technical steps and possibly troubleshooting. If you are purchasing the coins, be prepared for massive exchange issues – there have been nightmares with exchanges lately. Cryptopia was shut down to new registrations because they had reached their limit – coinsmarkets – an important exchange for these small coins, has been completely down for about three weeks now – another new Russian exchange called stocks.exchange is having huge problems and has been labeled a scam. So getting these coins may not be as easy as you might think. Many people characterize this as passive income – I personally don’t see it that way, but that could be because I’m mainly a hands-on kind of person.

Dan Kennedy And Ron Legrand – Promoters Bootcamp And Speaking Driven Business
Can you see yourself in a part-time business where you can literally create six figure paychecks on demand while simultaneously setting up back-end, passive income streams that produce money without your participation?
Or do you have aspirations to be a speaker, where you can take the stage and sell products, selling as much as $250,000 an event? Or maybe you’re already a speaker and would like to work less and make more, a lot more. Either way, I can help.
I can help you have a business where you help change peoples lives and get an endless stream of testimonials, thank you letters, gifts and even hugs wherever you go.
I do all these things and I’ll be sharing everything I know about the seminar and boot camp business in a very special home study system. It’s called the…
SPEAKER & PROMOTERS BOOT CAMP HOME STUDY SYSTEM
That’s right, it’s a combo course. Learn how to promote amazing seminars and boot camps, and, if you’re interested, learn how to be a platform speaker. Do both and you’ll really be raking in the dough! I want to give you the opportunity to learn both sides of this business. But first…
Let me tell you a little about myself (after all, I’ve made millions doing this myself) and then I’ll share all the elements of a successful seminar business with you. Read on for the exciting details that can make you rich!
Ron LeGrandMy name is Ron LeGrand and I’ve filled and conducted seminars and boot camps for 20 years now. We do almost 20 boot camps per year ranging in price from $1,500 – $6,000. They last three to five days in length and have an average attendance of 150 people. Add to that over 20 one-day workshops a year, some with over 200 people, and I guess it’s fair to say I understand this business.
I’ve also been a speaker at events all over North America and delivered speeches from 35 minutes long to 5 day training events. I can’t remember a single one of those times I didn’t sell at least $25,000 worth of products with only the words from my lips.
You don’t have to create a machine of this size to get wealthy quick. Any one of our one-day events average enough net profit to pay most job slaves for a full year. The net profit from a three-day boot camp rivals the annual salary of a top corporate CEO.
In my Speaker & Promoter Home Study System, I’ll show you how to work from both ends of the business and you’ll be able to use what suits you best. We no longer offer the live events for these trainings, but we’ve put them on CDs and DVDs so you get all the same information, plus the manuals and workbooks, to use right from your own home. With all this information, you’ll have the knowledge to create a business from either side of the stage – on it or behind it. For starters, let me tell you about the Promoting side.
SEMINAR & BOOT CAMP PROMOTERS
Here’s a real life example of how you can start and run a seminar business from scratch and not be an expert on anything. To do so I’ll have to disclose some family secrets and probably embarrass my daughter, Vicki, a little. I’ll just do it and ask her permission later.
In 1999 Vicki got tired of working for the corporate machine we built from a $10 seminar and decided to start her own business. She had no products. She isn’t a speaker or an expert on anything. She decided to sell information products because that’s what she and I had done most of her adult life.
We put our heads together and licensed a couple products we started selling by mail. Soon she got the idea to create a seminar and teach others how to sell information products. She knew she wasn’t going to be the one to teach the seminar so she got the smartest, best qualified, most handsome and modest guy on the planet to teach it…ME.
Then I teamed up with my marketing mentor Dan Kennedy and we put together a format and built the three-day seminar from scratch in about 3 days. To this point, Vicki didn’t have a dime in this venture because she talked us into waiting until after the event to get paid. In Dan’s case, his payment was a percentage of his sales he made at the event.
I think they call this one of those nothing down deals. Anyway, here’s the numbers from Vicki’s first 3-day boot camp she had us create and deliver while she stood in the back of the room and processed credit cards.
Needless to say she was walking on air for days after the event! Then she got the brilliant idea to do it again and again and again. Then she added an Internet Marketing Boot Camp and got experts to teach the whole thing. Today she does several boot camps a year and I have to make an appointment to see her. That’s OK as long as she takes care of me when I get old.
Now I Can Show You What It Took Me 20 Years To Learn.
There are several important things you should know. First, I was only one of four people who taught the event. It could have easily been done…
If I Wasn’t In The Room.
Second, most of the upfront money spent came from tuition sales as they occurred. I didn’t need much capital. The event funded itself. We started with very little out of pocket and all other expenses were paid as funds were collected. My initial investment came back quickly.
Third, others owned the only products sold. They paid me 50% of their sales. I didn’t create or deliver any products to anyone. They did. I created the outline for the event and asked the speakers to follow it.
Fourth, the whole event was handled by Vicki and her friend Danielle. They did the marketing and handled all the details. I created the outline for the event and asked my faculty to follow it. I did write the sales letter, but I could have easily gotten someone else to do it for me.
Finally, we taped the event with audios and videos so now I have a product to sell for years to come with no more work on my part. They call this passive income, my favorite kind. I’d expect this product to produce at least…
$500,000 A Year In Revenue For The Next 5 – 10 Years!
The whole thing, from idea to date of the event, took five months to prepare and if I choose, I could now repeat the process over and over with a fraction of the work. That’s what I call leveraging your brain, not your wallet or bank account.
Here’s some numbers from one of those recent 3-day boot camps. And it’s certainly not even near our best. We had 162 people and 104 entities there.
Again, it doesn’t have to be your product or your boot camp. Half the boot camps we sell are delivered by instructors who have created their own. They don’t work for us. We simply joint venture.
In the Promoter’s portion of this home study course, you’ll learn:
How you can start from scratch and be up and running in a profitable seminar business in any field you choose within 90 days. How to find the best speakers who can deliver the sales consistently and virtually guarantee you success. Poor speakers equal poor revenue. Good speakers will make you rich. How to create a format for a seminar to double back of the room sales. There’s an art to laying out an agenda and deciding when to sell and when not to. Fail here and you’re doomed. How to lay out the room, light it correctly, where to put the sales table and handle traffic flow. What not to do under any circumstances. Break this rule and you won’t like this business and you won’t even know why you failed. Follow it and you can laugh at all the stupid seminar companies who don’t get it. What your on site helpers should know to double or triple sales and what they must not do to keep from killing sales. How to handle confirmations to increase your show rate and reduce cost per attendee. This is a multi step process that’s simple and easy to do but it’s a critical component to your success. I’ll show you how to put it on autopilot so it gets done right every time. Why you should offer bonuses even to attend a free workshop. Where to get them dirt-cheap and what to spend and how to pick the right ones. You won’t need to create anything. How to warm up the crowd and put them in a buying mood so they gladly rush to back of the room waving cash and credit cards. How to reduce refunds or virtually eliminate them. Once a sale is made it hurts for it to come undone. If it does its 80% your fault. How to select the right media to fill seats and cut your marketing costs to the bone. This is one of the best-kept secrets in the business and what puts most people out of it. If you don’t master this, your career will be short lived as a promoter. Once you get the key to unlock the vault from my faculty your business will quickly escalate as large as you want it to be. In fact, I’d say this is the most important thing you must learn in the seminar business, however my friend Wright Thurston disagrees with me on this. He believes there’s another ingredient even more important and he’s agreed to share it with you, even though it took him 10 years to get it right. Anyway, I’ve got to tell you we struggled with filling seats cost effectively for years before we cracked the code. I hate to give up these secrets. In fact, I almost decided not to do this boot camp for that very reason. It’s like Coca Cola publishing their secret formula so all the competition can knock it off. But if you fill out the reservation form and get it in immediately this million-dollar secret will be delivered to you on a silver platter. Who to target, how and when and how often. Solicit the wrong prospects and the numbers will be ugly. Every detail for every type of media will be covered and checklists will be supplied to you so you don’t miss anything. In addition, you’ll get a list of contacts we work with so you can go directly to the source and not run in circles looking for good media contacts. We’ll tell you what it costs and what your results should be. This alone will cut 5 years off your learning curve. How to conduct free events designed to acquire customers and paid events designed to teach and sell and why you’d better know the difference. Just for the record, all events are sales events if you want to stay in business. You’ll learn why it’s foolish to assemble people for a seminar and not give them a chance to buy products. It’s a huge disservice to your customers and a stupid move on your part. How to lay out a boot camp to maximize the learning experience and create raving fans from your customers. I’ve taught over 300 boot camps in the past 11 years and from them was created thousands of success stories and hundreds of millionaires. If you’re gonna be in the seminar and boot camp business it should be a business that serves others and keeps the promises you make. If you really enrich the lives of those you touch it won’t be long before the world will beat a path to your door. It’s one thing to sell seminars. It’s another to deliver quality information in a manner in which it can be absorbed and impacts your clients. I’ll show you how to conduct your events so you leave on a high because you know the world’s a better place because of your contribution. How to turn your seminar business into a passive cash flow machine that creates a huge income long after your seminars and boot camps have been delivered. This cash flow will dwarf the profit from your seminars and most promoters don’t harvest it. This is your retirement account and it can be huge after a few short years promoting seminars. How to measure your success quickly and know the bottom line the day after the event. I’ll give you the template we created for this report and others that will be very valuable to your tracking. These things took years to compile and without them you’ll be shooting in the dark. How to pick the best hotels to do a seminar and a boot camp and how they differ. If you don’t know this you could easily lose half your attendance to a free seminar and attract the wrong crowd for the other half. Pick the wrong boot camp hotel and lose sales because your attendees are upset. This one very important secret would take years to learn by trial and error and is critical to the outcome of a seminar. This secret will easily pay for the event with increased revenue. All of this is only half the business! You can learn all of this, learn to make more money than you ever thought possible, just by planning and promoting seminars. But if you’d rather be on stage than behind the scenes, or if you want to know how to do both, read on…
PLATFORM SPEAKING
Take a moment and ask yourself, what are the three highest paid professions in North America? In what three industries can someone have just one talent, learn the secrets and make more money in one day (sometimes one hour) than the majority of Americans make in a year?
The first two professions are professional athletes and Hollywood actors. Now, let’s be honest. The chances of you becoming a major ‘player’ in these industries is between slim and none, even if you have the talents. There are just too many roadblocks in the way.
The third highest paid profession not only provides you with time freedom, it also provides you with the ability to make as much money as you want, whenever you want. The lifestyle is amazing! It’s fun, profitable, and most of all, easy to master! And the good news is there’s a proven system that will allow you to tap into this amazing cash-flow business even if you’ve never done it before in your life!
This amazing industry is professional speaking. And whether those words frighten you or excite you, the few minutes it takes for you to read these next few pages will possibly be the most important you’ve spent in many years! In fact, with the secrets you’ll find here, you’ll discover…
How to profit handsomely even if you’ve NEVER made a live presentation in your life!
My best guess is over the last twenty years I’ve created revenue from the platform in excess of…
$50,000,000 In Product Sales
Of course, I didn’t get to keep all that. Promoters take a bite and other expenses of travel and product demand their share. But don’t feel sorry for me. I kept more than most people make in a lifetime of hard work exchanging hours for dollars.
However, I didn’t kill myself on the road either, spending all my time away from home. Today I spend about 20-25 days doing selling seminars and another 60-80 days teaching. I don’t have to teach. I do it because I want to and it still excites me. I could choose to speak only 20-25 days a year and easily net over…
$1,000,000 A Year…And So Can You.
Before I go any further, I’m aware some fee speakers believe they shouldn’t be selling products to their audience…I couldn’t disagree more. As far as I’m concerned, to stand in front of an excited group who came to hear you talk and not allow them to take your materials home to continue their education is a gross injustice to them.
I’m making millionaires all over America in the field of real estate investing and information marketing. I can tell you with absolute certainty none of them would have climbed the mountain to financial freedom with only the information I could offer in a speech.
Without the books, tapes, back end seminars and constant bombardment with quality materials a lot of people would still be struggling to get by. I’d be one of them. I’m a sponge for knowledge. There’s no way I would have absorbed so much if I couldn’t do it by listening to tapes and I bought most of them after hearing a speech.
So please…if you think it’s some kind of sin to sell your products or others products to a hungry, ravenous crowd, get over it quickly. This program will definitely allow you to take a look at the other world where the speakers who make a real and lasting difference operate.
So here’s an opportunity for you to learn to sell in a manner that’s never been taught by anyone before now as far as I know. And you’ll discover the secret from the comfort of your favorite chair. That’s right, no travel, no hotels, no airports…all the secrets three of the nation’s leading speakers and I have uncovered in the last 14 years.
Here’s how you get it: We held a very exclusive boot camp. This was a one-time-only event. It will never be held live again. It was completely sold out, and each person paid $10,000 to be in the room. And every single one of them left feeling they’d UNDERPAID for the information. The secrets uncovered were just that powerful.
I asked three of the best platform closers and marketing minds I know to help me create and deliver this life changing speaker’s event. Any one of them could show you how to double your income and cut your work in half. I picked them because they’re master platform selling machines.
All of us combined created a brain trust and experience pool you couldn’t buy into for any price. What we uncovered could easily provide you…
A Ten Fold Increase In Your Income Within 12 Months (and frankly that should be a piece of cake)
I don’t care how much you make now; I can assure you it’s not even close to your potential. Whether you’re the nation’s top speaker or someone just starting out, what you don’t know is costing you a fortune. If you want to know the truth, the strategies and secrets I discovered during this event blew me away and have already had a HUGE impact on my bottom line…and I’ve been doing this for 20 years. Just imagine what it’ll do for you!
Even though you missed the live $10,000 event, the good news is we captured every single minute on audio and DVD. Initially, these audios and DVDs were only for the attendees. However, after word got out about this event, the demand for the audios and DVDs from those not able to attend has been overwhelming.
So we’ve decided to invite a select group of proven action takers, like you, to receive the secrets of world class platform speakers as we reveal…
“The REAL Truth To Making Ridiculous Amounts Of Money…Just For Flapping Your Lips!”
Here’s just a partial list of what you’ll discover from these experts on PLATFORM SPEAKING:
The 7 Steps To A Dynamite Close. Each and every expert goes through their pitch and explains how it works and how you can adapt it to your business. The EXACT word-for-word presentation Dan Kennedy uses to close huge percentages in groups ranging from 20 to 20,000. All you do is take the template and use it to build your own winning presentation. Simple… just like filling in the blanks. How to develop a “signature story” that puts your audience in the palm of your hand Detailed critiques of many of the attendees. You’ll hear other speaker’s presentations and exactly how the expert panel would supercharge it for maximum results. Just like listening in on private consultations! Discover the 16 simple steps to building a speech that rivets the audience to their seat and raises their adrenalin level. How to build an irresistible offer without giving away the farm and what really compels people to buy….and what doesn’t. Discover how “AIR” is the most important part of your package… easily doubling your profits with the exact same pitch! How to turn audience questions into sales opportunities! How to create products that sell themselves so all you have to do is ask for the money. How to ensure the audience (big or small) is primed to buy within a minute of you opening your mouth How you can easily create a 6-figure income without ever creating a product or service of your own. In fact, there were many in the audience that is already doing this with huge results. If you aren’t making $30,000.00 to $100,000.00 in a 2-day period, in a weekend, at least two to three times each year, you’re screwing up. However, I don’t think there are 30 speakers who truly understand this secret. Why Should You Work All Year for $100,000 When I Easily Make That Much In A Couple Speeches?
Okay, maybe you make $200,000 or $300,000, maybe more from your whole year’s work. But how many times a year do you make $50,000 to $100,000 in just two days? I do, virtually at will. (So do about a dozen of my private clients I’ve taught this to. You’ll see examples of how they do it in this income explosion system.)
How the “Flashing Presentation System” will drive more sales and keep your audience waiting for more There are only 3 ways to “Close For Maximum Results” you’ll discover them all! Uncover how to become the ‘Pied Piper’ – when to turn off your microphone and when to leave it on. This is absolutely critical! How to create a strong sense of urgency to make your audience act immediately and not lose sales. You must get the money quickly or you never will. How to make your ‘Signature In Blue Ink’ the biggest part of your close Why a standing ovation is the kiss of death. If they’re standing, and not spending, you have not provided them everything they came for! How to make sure you can deliver a talk without forgetting anything… no matter how nervous you may feel! This system is brain-dead simple and ensures you don’t rely on your memory. How to bring a ‘dead’ audience back to life… and have them riveted on your next words. Discover exactly how to price your products for maximum profits in minimum time. The 12 Keys To The Perfect “Pitch” – Including The Deadly Sins To Avoid! What to do BEFORE every talk to make you look like a hero and command respect. How a “Big-Back-End” Is Critical – And How To Create It Quickly & Easily! What you must never do at the end of a talk that will kill your sales every time. How to work less and make your life much more enjoyable. I laugh when I hear speakers bragging to each other about how many dates they do a year. 100. 150. 200. If this is the “red badge of courage” for speakers, count me out. For many of these braggarts, it means they’re actually making minimum wage! But I once thought like this too. It’s easy to get caught up in this. But it’s much, much smarter (and much more worthy of bragging) to make twice the money in half the dates. The important stat is net income. And THE most impressive stat is big net income from few dates. Through careful selection, then smart pre-date, at-date and post-date marketing, I’ll show you how to at least triple your current net earnings per engagement. You can then use this to cut the least desirable dates out of your schedule and give more time to your family, golf game, writing that novel of yours, or whatever. (Of course, you’ll have to give up bragging rights to the most number of layover hours spent in the Atlanta Airport.) How to have other promoters lining up to give you an audience… with ZERO cost to you! If your intentions are to speak for others and you can stand in front of a room and create revenue, you’ll have no trouble finding work. Audiences are much easier to find than good platform closers. Good closers get to pick and choose whom they work for, and we can make you a good closer. And these are just a few of the hundreds of critical secrets you’ll discover.
PLUS, you’ll be let in on our secret information concerning income and expenses from back-end campaigns at my many boot camps and workshops, so you can identify where the profits are for your business.
I’ll Show You One Marketing Technique That Took 12 Years To Discover But Tripled Our Income In 11 ½ Months…And How You Can Duplicate It Immediately!
If you sell information products or intend to (even if not from a live presentation), this information alone is worth at least a million dollars to even the smallest business. It’s a break through not known in the industry and I’m not real anxious to get the word out to my competition.
If you’re a speaker with a product and you don’t use my back end marketing system it’s just brain dead stupid! Actually, I’m probably an idiot for even disclosing it but I’m willing to do it for you as long as you keep your mouth shut.
I can tell you this much…
We Went From Losing $20 Per Order On Our TV Show To Making $338 Per Order…With This One Technique!
Imagine what that can do for your income. This one discovery should pay for the cost of your tuition within the first 30 days you use it.
Here’s a few more of the incredible secrets disclosed.
THE least understood, most important “Statistic” to track, know and use in your speaking business. THE Secret to eliminating product price resistance – and successfully booking and selling at prices higher than your competition. Why you can’t afford to accept any and every engagement offered to you – why and when to say no; how to have the courage to say no; how to decide on your own criteria for a Grade–A engagement. How to secure Client Acceptance for platform selling – even when you think you can’t. Exact examples of revenue-sharing re. On-site product sales with associations and corporate clients. A powerful product development secret; “quick-n-dirty’ customization – so generic product becomes custom fit to each group (for higher prices, higher margins). Post-speech income opportunities missed by most speakers: exactly what to do to add at least $1,000.00 to each date. How to get into the “Toll Position” so you get paid over and over and over again, purely based on your influence and your customers. The powerful marketing and moneymaking secret Dan Kennedy calls the General Schwarzkopf principle” How to run a multiple-streams-of-income, multi-million dollar a year business with little or no staff. A mini-seminar on Order Form design: you’ll be amazed when you see how a few “tiny” things can produce $10,000.00 to $100,000.00 of extra profits. Specific strategies for creating product faster – easier – cheaper…how to be prolific, how to license others’ materials, etc. How to speak while sitting on your patio: “Tele-Seminars” and “Coaching Programs”. How to do business on your terms: dictate, don’t negotiate – and other “brass Balls” business principles. Where to get products produced for the cheapest price possible and maintain quality service, even if you’re doing small quantities. I’ll include a million dollar Rolodex with all our vendors to save you years in research and bad experience. How to build a back end sales system to create a much larger income stream than you can accomplish from speaking and how to put it on auto pilot to provide a retirement income for life. What you can do with cash to get extremely high, safe returns the Wall Street boys never heard of. How to use your IRA to grow rich without making another contribution for the rest of your life. I’m making a lot of millionaires with this little known secret you won’t get from your CPA or Attorney. I did a bonus session where I disclosed my personal 11 streams of income and got the faculty to share theirs. All of this in this amazing home study system! Is it any wonder my attorneys and accountants weren’t thrilled? That’s a lot of priceless information! Take a look at the faculty included on this system and you’ll understand why I chose them.

(Of course, you’ll have to give up bragging rights to the most number of layover hours spent in the Atlanta Airport.) If you sell information products or intend to (even if not from a live presentation), this information alone is worth at least a million dollars to even the smallest business.
