This Van Dyke's Salamander is only found in (or, endemic to) western Washington! We were fortunate to be able to examine this gorgeous creature up close while scoping the Arctic Loon we had just located out in Neah Bay. While holding salamanders is not optimal because the oils and salts on our hands can injure the creatures due to their incredibly absorbent skin, I feel more comfortable about it in that all of our hands were thoroughly rinsed and moistened by the torrential downpour of a winter coastal Pacific Northwest storm! #vandykessalamander #neahbay (at Neah Bay, Washington)

Words can't express how #grateful I am for this #roadtrip. I was a little down when our honeymoon and trip back to singapore got cancelled and was unable to meet up with family and friends. We decided to travel the #peninsula of #washington. Got lucky to be able to #explore a #rainforest on a sunny day! All our pit stops were so gorgeous. This picture says so much!

First of all it is a powerful message from the book by Napoleon Hill called Think and Grow Rich. I have listened to the Audible of the book many times and this “stuck out in my mind” tonight. With all of the “NOISE “ surrounding us every day from all sides, it’s important that you remember that everyone wants to give their opinion. But, the only one that matters are your decisions based on your gut feelings, research and talking to God. Cut out the noise and listen to your inner voice. This is my favorite place on earth🌍, Neah Bay. My family owns a cabin on the beach. What you see here is Seal and Sail Rock, a monument to the wildlife in the area and the native Americans and fishermen. If in a dense fog they can see the rock and get their bearings. We look out from our cabin and see it every day we are there. Many decisions have been made on that beach and in that cabin at Neah Bay! ❤️

I went back and forth on what to share today. The news about DACA, though expected, still hit me right in the gut. How can I talk about my little zero waste project when real lives are at stake? But the truth is plastics and palm oil and pipelines cause violence to poor people and communities of color every single day. We have to address the full lifecycle of the products we consume, if we truly care about justice. STRAWS (change made) - Americans use 500 million straws per day, 99% of which are made of plastic. Since they are not recycleable, almost every plastic straw ever made still exists on this planet. Nowadays, I try to carry my own metal straw or to go without, and to remember to say "no straw, please" at restaurants when I order a drink. I get weird looks, but I'm saving a turtle! MEAT PACKAGING (working on) - A lot of meat in grocery stores is packed in styrofoam & wrapped in cellophane. Both types of plastic are not easily, and therefore rarely, recycled. Plus it always makes me think the meat has just been sitting there for days. Although less convenient, I'm making an effort to only get meat at the butcher counter and to ask for it to be wrapped in butcher paper only. Unfortunately, I'm finding it hard to purchase fish, sausages, and certain cuts of meat (like ribs & bacon) that aren't already pre-packaged. My ideal would be to find a local whole-animal butchery, or I might consider a CSA meat share.
