Milwaukee Bucks Acquire Draft Rights of Hugo Besson

On June 24th, 2022, the Indiana Pacers traded the draft rights of Hugo Besson to the Milwaukee Bucks for cash considerations.

During the 2022 NBA Draft, the Milwaukee Bucks did not have a second round draft pick after forfeiting their selection for negotiating earlier than allowed with free agent Bogdan Bogdanović.

The Bucks made an effort to add a pick, and found one, acquiring the last pick in the draft (number 58) from the Indiana Pacers for cash considerations. The Pacers had already made two selections in the second round and offered up the pick which originally came from the Phoenix Suns. With that 58th pick, guard Hugo Besson was selected.

Born in Angers, France, Besson was a combo guard playing overseas for the New Zealand Breakers of Australia's National Basketball League (NBL). The guard was known as a shot maker with an ability to get hot from the perimeter.

Right after the draft, Besson joined Milwaukee for 2022 Summer League. In four contests, the guard had a small role averaging 2.5 PPG on 18.8% from the field and 2.2 RPG in 11.4 MPG.

After Summer League, Besson signed a contract with Metropolitans 92 of the LNB Pro A in France. That year, he played with burgeoning future NBA prospect Victor Wembanyama. Besson underwent arthroscopic surgery on his hip during the season.

Besson was on the roster for Milwaukee's 2023 Summer League team, but he never played. Besson went on to sign with KK FMP Meridian in the Basketball League of Serbia in September. The guard parted ways with the club in February and signed with Openjobmetis Varese of the Lega Basket Serie A.

After not playing in Summer League in 2023, Besson joined the Bucks for the summer games in 2024. He appeared in four games in Las Vegas, posting 7.8 PPG on 33% from the field, 2.2 RPG and 3.2 APG in 16.8 MPG.

For the 2024-25 season Besson signed a contract with Manisa Buyuksehir Belediye Spor in Turkey. At the 2025 NBA trade deadline, the Bucks sent Besson's draft rights to the New York Knicks in a four-team deal that also involved the Washington Wizards and San Antonio Spurs.

Hugo Besson on when knew he was drafted 58th in the draft (via NBL):

 "[My agent] told me like two people before me that I'm going be 58th. I was between being happy and being like man, I'm the last one of this draft. That was a weird feeling."

On the long draft night:

"I was drafted by the Pacers and got traded [to] the Bucks but I mean this night was so long, like five hours. It was crazy but at the end that's what I wanted, so that's cool."

On if he would join the Bucks for the 2022-23 season:

"I have no idea. I'm hearing my name somewhere in the world but I don't know. We'll see... I'm just focused on summer league first and then we'll see what happens."
