A lot of us are autistic. Things can get misinterpreted. Not one of us has the platform he has or ever used one to perform an oops all nazis.
But please, continue letting the "nazi or autistic" discourse distract from the richest man in the world performing a fascist salute at a ceremony installing a fascist as president.

How do you feel about Kuvira x Korra? Do you think it has potential and do you like the dynamic? (sorry if this has already been asked lol)
I used to have a mutual who shipped Korvira, and I thought they were pretty cool, so I may be quite biased. I'm not extremely into it myself, but I can certainly see the appeal. Kuvira is presented as Korra's foil, to some extent. She's also the first opponent Korra faces after her traumatic injury at the hands of the Red Lotus and her subsequent long and arduous journey towards healing. She's also the only villain to get a redemption, be it deserved or not. So I can certainly see Kuvira having a significant role in Korra's life.
I think the potential dynamic they would have is an incredibly interesting one. They're both so strong willed and determined, so as a couple they would be a force to be reckoned with. But Korra has like, morals and Kuvira is much more callous so I wonder if they would clash on that point, as they did in the comics. Its certainly inteiguing.
I personally don't find the ship appealing outside of a crack context, because for some reason I find it really amusing. My main gripe with it is that most Korvira shippers I have interacted with are also the people most keen on erasing Kuvira's flaws and many faults. I also find that most Korvira content I have read through has more of a bias towards Kuvira, centering her in the narratives and favouring her in an odd way. And I don't exactly mind that, I just don't find it appealing.
So like, not for me, I can see the appeal, fandom lowkey concerns me with the fascist worship but there is good content for it and some really cool ppl in the fandom ship Korvira

As an anthropologist and art historian this historical misrepresentation pisses me off.
So the piece of art that is going around “claiming” to be evidence of the so called “Roman salute” is this one:
Tumblr media
Oath of the Horatii
By Jacques-Louis David
Made in 1784
(Currently housed at the Louvre)
All the news sources claiming “Roman salute” are saying that that is the gesture they are making here so it proves Roman’s did it…which is completely ignoring the actual history of the art itself and the reason it was commissioned.
The story in the painting:
According to Wikipedia (I know but i didn’t have time to fully dive down the resources rabbit hole), the story behind this painting revolves around a dispute between Rome and Alba Longa:
Tumblr media
The tldr is essentially these three brothers are volunteering to be tribute to fight this small battle to win the war, and they’re just stretching out their arms to reach for their swords their dad holds, in determination.
It is just THAT. The determination to fight for their city, and reaching out to their father, who holds the swords a loft, knowing 2/3rds will die, but they want to fight anyways.
They’re JUST reaching for their swords it’s not that deep.
Additionally the history behind the commission of this piece ISNT EVEN ROMAN.
Jacques-Louis David was fucking French!
Living before and during the French Revolution
Poor guys was just influenced by the times he was living in and the political tentions of the world around him.
Tumblr media
The determination to fight, and to stand up for one’s loyalty to one’s country was the boiling water under his feet that caused him to paint this.
It was partly patriotism but mainly the determination to stand up and fight for what you feel is right.
TLDR: It’s not a fucking “Roman salute” that’s utter bullshit. It’s just three guys wanting to get their swords from their dad who’s afraid they’re going to die. It’s also a tad bit of determination from the FRENCH revolution.
Anyone claiming “Roman Salute” is just a Nazi.
Just in case anyone needs a history lesson:
The nazi salute IS the roman salute. Because. They specifically chose to use... the roman salute. To invoke the grandiose and history of the roman empire. Like. That was a specific choice they made when they were creating their empire. They didn't call it a nazi salute. THE NAZIS CALLED IT A ROMAN SALUTE.
They did not happen to create a salute that looks identical. They said "we like the roman salute because the romans created the idea of fascism, so we are going to use it." Fascism, if you didn't know, is derived from the ROMAN word for a symbol called the Fasces. It represents the ultimate power of a single leader over their subjects! I wonder why that would be really appealing for them as a symbol!
They were ALSO taking a little inspiration from us, Americans, because we were also using it in the early part of the 1900s!
Because Americans ALSO liked the whole "connection to the roman empire" part! If you think white people NOW have a boner for the roman empire, you should have seen them a century ago!
Americans, understandably, stopped using it, because we got in a war with the only other people who were using it more than we were and were creating some real fucked-up associations with it: THE NAZIS.

"Elon Musk didn't make a Nazi salute, it was a Terran salute from Star Trek" is the most inane explanation for why something Isn't A Nazi Thing ever bc like
What Terran salute lol. Is that an iconic part of the franchise now. Are we supposed to pretend it's on the level of the live long and prosper gesture or whatever bc it obviously is not. There is a Star Trek salute so famous it has its own emoji and curiously it is not this one, which no one talked about until MAGA frantically glommed onto it
Why. Why would you do that in that context
The Terran salute is a Nazi salute. It just is. The original episode outright compares them to the Gestapo. "But the Terrans are Roman" I'm excited for you to see what the Roman salute inspired!
Also he obviously wasn't. Nazis are interpreting it as a Nazi salute so nothing else matters. This is so stupid

the fact that people are seriously harassing grimes over elon musk doing the nazi salute is making me lose my mind. he is her EX BOYFRIEND, she’s actively in a custody battle over their children, and she’s already said many times that she wants nothing to do with him. imagine if YOUR ex became a nazi and everyone thought that if you didn’t tweet that you weren’t a nazi right away then clearly you were just as bad as they are even if you’ve barely spoken to each other in three years. like can we please leave hating a woman bc of what a man did in 2024 please god
edit: originally i said he was her ex-husband, but they were actually never even married. people are harassing her over an ex boyfriend she broke up with almost three years ago

What they correctly state: "It was a Roman Salute" What they don't tell you: "The 'Roman Salute' was the original name for what is now known as the Fascist Salute, or Nazi Salute" If they call it a Roman Salute, that's an admittance. They know it's a Nazi salute and don't realise you can look up "Roman Salute" on Wikipedia

"Putting your hand over your heart isn't a part of a Nazi salute!"
Not the original salute no, but it is part of the salute being used by Neo Nazis. So here's a link to a video comparing them, showing his gesture was identical to a Neo Nazi salute.
https://www.reddit.com/r/france/s/2bdn5cuvf6
"Even the ADL said it wasn't a Nazi salute!"
The ADL can be wrong just like any other group of people can. You people hate their stance on hate speech, so why are you magically in agreement with them just because they support your worldview?
"It was so bad that it couldn't have been a real salute, Hitler would have killed him for mocking him!"
Bad salutes are still salutes, just as bad insurrections are still insurrections.
"He was symbolically throwing his heart to the crowd!"
Here he is doing it a second time while facing away from the crowd.
Tumblr media
"He said his heart went out to the crowd!"
Yeah so he could have some deniability for idiots like you to cling to and defend him with.
"Kalama did the same gesture!"
She waved and pointed. You're just blind. There's something wrong with you if you can't distinguish a wave from an actual Nazi salute. Here's them being conpared side by side.
https://x.com/tify330/status/1881512417387040998
The sad part Is, if you saw this back in 2012, your immediate thought would have been "Oh my god Elon Musk did a nazi salute!", but Trump has so successfully brainwashed you, conditioned you, and groomed you, that his richest and most vocal supporter can preform a blatant Nazi salute, and you'll deny the obvious evidence before you to defend him, ignoring everything before your eyes and ears, because you've been made incapable of acknowledging the evilness, or the nature, of your cult.
It should have been obvious when he showed up to the Madison Square Garden rally in a custom black MAGA hat that used a typeface that was associated with the Hitler and the Nazis, the font the Nazis regularly used as a sign of nationalism that Hitler chose as the as the font for the cover of his autobiography.
https://www.ndtv.com/world-news/elon-musks-maga-cap-text-has-eerie-resemblance-with-hitlers-nazi-font-6903216/amp/1](https://www.ndtv.com/world-news/elon-musks-maga-cap-text-has-eerie-resemblance-with-hitlers-nazi-font-6903216/amp/1
You guys are REALLY bad at taking hints due to your programing.
"Trump, who is nothing like a nazi and never talks about nazis or white supremacists except to disavow them, brainwashed you into thinking Elon Musk isn't a nazi" sure is an interesting take.
Anyway you're putting a lot of words into my mouth and the ones you're quoting that are actually mine explain pretty well why what Elon did isn't a nazi salute, so I'm not going point by point and addressing your nonsense (especially the "nazi font" shit. Jesus do you even hear yourself?)
What I am going to address?
"Here he is doing it a second time while facing away from the crowd"
There were people behind the stage behind him. I don't know if you can see them during Elon's full speech but here's the same setup from when Trump was at the arena
Tumblr media
You can clearly see the white star bunting that's behind Elon in the clips of him doing the "salute". The stage is in the center of the arena with people all around.
I'll also explain why I trust the ADL here, again, because apparently you either didn't see it or, more likely, your leftist brain selectively edits everything that doesn't conform to your warped world view.
The ADL is a partisan left wing group that constantly calls conservatives, but especially Trump and his allies, nazis, racists, white supremacists, anti-Semites, and every other ist and phobe under the sun. They rarely let a chance to lie about the right go by. The fact that a group like that is saying "that wasn't a nazi salute" means a lot, because they're going against the talking points of their own ideology in favor of a person they hate. When a group, even a partisan hack group like the ADL, goes against their interests and the interests of their allies in favor of a person or a group they normally can't stand, that gives their words a lot of extra weight.
She waved and pointed. You're just blind. There's something wrong with you if you can't distinguish a wave from an actual Nazi salute.
Yes. That's the point. She waved and pointed. Elon symbolically "threw his heart" to the crowd. Neither were nazi salutes. Both could made to look like one out of context. The media only cared about doing it with Elon.
I don't expect any of this to get through to you, because you still think J6 was an iNsUrReCtIoN. But maybe one day, after you grow out of this weird leftist phase, you'll look back and remember this and feel as silly as you should.

As someone who has never used tiktok and hasnt really used any social media in the past, like, year other than Tumblr, this is one of the best things to see from the sidelines.
The US government banning tiktok due to "Chinese data stealers" or whatever their excuse was, only for them to un-ban it a day later is a massive PR stunt for Trump, and from my limited view, people not falling for it because they remember Trump was one of the people who originally supported the ban.
Elon Musk straight up doing a nazi salute twice in a row, on live television, in front of millions of US Americans, showing how much of a God damned fool and peice of shit he is to more people, and people not supporting that shit at all.
US Americans leaving tiktok due to the ban, only to then move to RedNote or RedBook, idk, and making new bridges between Chinese and US Ameeicans, undoing years of government brainwashing. People learning Mandarin to communicate with people on RedNote instead of going to Facebook or X or whatever other US government alternatives there are. Chinese people learning how shit the US, US citizens learning how China is nothing like the crap that the government has fed them.
(Of course, as all of this is stuff I've learned from Tumblr, I could be wrong on a few of these, but this is the jist of what I've seen so far. Please feel free to correct me or educate me on these matters further if you want, I'm willing to learn.)
The next few years are going to be rough, but this gives me hope that it'll be alright. We can make it through, even if it's rough.

The state of America right now:
On Trump's first day in office, he has gotten rid of a website about reproductive rights. it was a government website. As someone who is biologically female, that is terrifying. That is just the start of what rights he will be taking away from me. Anyone who has voted for him is actively against what America is "supposed" to stand for.
He has also stated that he plans to make only 2 genders, male and female. This is also actively again the people—there is no home of free when he is taking away people's rights to choose. This is also completely against biology. our president doesn't know about fucking biology.
ICE ( Immigrations and Customs Department) had already begun deporting families from the country. (for people who this directly affects, here is a website about your rights to help.)
During Trump's inauguration, the most famous neo-nazi Elon Musk did the Nazi salute. Some people are trying to defend him saying it was the Roman salute, when that is a salute for fascism, so they are basically saying he did in fact do the salute, they're just okay with it.
Trump wants to override the 14th Amendment, which gives people birthright citizenship. The 14th Amendment was passed after the Civil War during reconstruction. This Amendment also has the Equal Protection Clause, which was a key factor in the Brown v. Board of Education Supreme Court Case. They argued that segregated schools violated that clause, and they won unanimous agreement from the court. Getting rid of the 14th Amendment is deeper than just birthright citizenship. Trump is working to make America a land of free white people where men have returned to the top.
Trump is using the Tik Tok ban as a political stunt. He originally wanted it banned, and here he is trying to win over the youth.

For anyone that's still a tiny bit unsure about whether that THING threw out a Sieg Heil -
I'm German born but raised and educated in the UK. I went to a lot of different schools here, and each one hammered home WW1 & WW2 history. It was basically the only thing taught on the curriculum for the entirety of schooling.
I also live in one of the cities that was bombed out the most during WW2. I grew up listening to grandparents that went through the war. The point I'm trying to make is, I know a fucking Sieg Heil when I see one.
Elon Musk is a Nazi. There is literally no argument that can be put forward to defend him. The action, which was performed twice in the space of seconds, is only the tip of the shitberg.
He's retweeted posts from self-identified white supremacists and Neo-Nazis endless times, he's put money into Apartheid groups in South Africa, he funds and constantly posts misinformation about the AfD in Germany, and in the UK he is constantly banging on about Tommy Robinson (founder of the EDL) and has supported Andrew McIntyre, a shameless fascist who orchestrated many of 2024s riots and tried to organise arson attacks on multiple mosques.
Musk's behaviour on inauguration day has been "claimed" by multiple white supremacy groups. Every one of them knew exactly what he was doing and applauded it.
Another point I want to make, is MUSK NEVER OUTRIGHT DENIED IT. He made some pathetic little sarcastic post, but he never denied it.
I keep seeing posts about it being called a "Roman Salute". Mate, THERE IS NO SUCH THING. The Romans didn't do that. Wherever it originated from (Some say it was France in the 1700s, the Nazis adopted it and no one else used it. It is a Nazi gesture, used by Nazis, for Nazis. That's all there is to it.
I keep seeing posts blaming it on the autism of it all. Trying to use that as a defense is fucking disgusting, and hugely inaccurate. Autism doesn't make you throw out Sieg Heils. And even if it was somehow (stepping into the realms of fantasy here) an "autistic moment", IT IS VERY UNLIKELY HE WOULD MAKE A COMPLETELY NEW AND UNFAMILIAR GESTURE! THAT WOULD MEAN HE HAD TO HAVE PRACTICED IT! I've got an autistic kid, who has never "stimmed a Sieg Heil" because they're not a racist, fascist, shitcunt.
For fucks sake.
I've just spoken to family in America. Yesterday their local KKK walked down their street, in the daytime, in their full racist costumes, covered in swastika's. Without a care in the world.
And why should they care? The richest man in the world, Shadow President Elon Musk has basically given them the go-ahead.
You know what you saw.

"A frenzy of absolute disclosure": what post-WWII Europe needed and never got
Tumblr media
Naples, Italy, 1955 [x]
Then Lila, drying her tears with the back of her hand, asked “Who are the Nazi Fascists, Pascà? Who are the monarchists? What’s the black market?”
It’s hard to say what Pasquale’s answers did to Lila. I’m in danger of getting it wrong, partly because on me, at the time, they had no concrete effect. But she, in her usual way, was moved and altered by them, so that for the entire summer she tormented me with a single concept that I found quite unbearable. I’ll try to summarize it, using the language of today, like this: there are no gestures, words, or sighs that do not contain the sum of all the crimes that human beings have committed and commit.
Naturally she said it in another way. But what matters is that she was gripped by a frenzy of absolute disclosure. She pointed to people, things, streets, and said, “That man fought in the war and killed people, that one beat people with a stick and poured castor oil down their throat, that one starved his own mother, in that house they tortured and killed, on these stones they marched giving the Fascist salute, on this corner they beat people up, these people's money comes from the hunger of others, this car was bought by selling rotten meat and flour laced with marble dust on the black market, that butcher shop came from stolen copper and vandalized freight trains, behind that bar is the Camorra, smuggling, loan-sharking.”
— Elena Ferrante, My Brilliant Friend
Note: I was gonna quote the official English translation and get done with it, but it was BAD. It had vocabulary like "administered castor oil", "inflicted beatings", "adulterated with marble dust", and I couldn't stand it. This is formal register, not how a teenager would casually talk to her friend. It's maybe how she'd write an essay for school, but that's the whole fucking point: school doesn't cover this, formal register is not applicable. We're in Italy in the 1950s, and the establishment pretends all this doesn't exist, and in turn the girls' families and neighbours pretend it doesn't exist, everyone shuts their eyes and mouth because they don't want any trouble. That's the point. Lila has read the entire school library, and she still wouldn't know what a Nazi is if the communist kid hadn't told her.
Post-war Italy – like most of post-war Europe and especially countries that had fascist movements and/or were under occupation, and ended up on the NATO side – forged a comforting narrative where everything bad that happened was of external origin or in the past. When the war ends and the dust settles, the people involved are still around if not more or less in power, everything's still in shambles, no rights have been wronged, with a handful of exceptions fascists and collaborators have kept the fortunes they made on other people's misery and walk around unbothered, and no one talks about it.

I can't rb the original post I saw because op disabled rb's because they were genuinely asking a question and people piled on. But! PBS is not the only one that called the Musk Nazi salute a Nazi salute. Hollywood Reporter did as well. We might need to have a discussion about PBS and Hollywood Reporter being the only US media outlets to call a spade a spade here.
