PR6 - Flandre

MNF Flandre, the steal and steam version.

I've been thinking on how to word this to not seem annoying or like I'm dismissing people's complains are not real complains or whatever, because I've seen some very vocal hatred of Flandre's design.

And, like. Yeah! I wanted her to be intimidating and fierce, just like she is in WoWs. A Flandre rushing you if you're lower tier and you are alone without support is Scary. She's fast, she hits hard and has very fast-shooting secondaries that might not penetrate your armor, but will burn you alive. Playing Flandre in Operations (WoWs' best PvE mode) is super fun. I just did a game where I sunk 9 enemy ships all by myself and did more than 220k damage.

This is insane even for Operation standards.

My point is, I understand the complaints a lot because I do not really like Flandre's visual design.

But also, it's not the end of the world.

First of all: The game has more than 500 ships. That's more characters than in some entire mythologies of huge cultures with thousands of years of history (although don't quote me on this). Some should be hits and some should be misses. Optimistically, from a capitalistic point of view, they should all be massive hits so every girl gets a lot of hype, but y'all know that's not how the real world works.

Second of all: I think people expect that when a faction like the Iris goes a long time without major attention (even if that's not entirely true for them, Implacable may have had a RN event but the Iris played a MAJOR role in that event) they expect their eventual re-introduction to be bombastic, huge, epic, extremely memorable, etc. But without looking it up, I struggle to remember which shipgirls were in Vanguard's event. Indomitable and? idk, others. And people also cried rivers of salt when Vanguard was announced, she "didn't look UR worthy". Implacable looked "too Iris" to some; and we all know the HMS simps were extremely vocal about how their beloved faction had gone around 2 years without an event.

My major point is: if you expect wholeheartedly that the first new Iris ships are going to be massive hits, you're gonna be disappointed.

I have a very definitive headcannon for how Kearsarge might look (pic related, a description of that look I gave to a friend)

she has 4 turrets. her rigging would be split in two, with 2 turrets in each side. she would wear a blue uniform kinda resembling Union generals from the american civil war, with a naval officer cap (also blue). on top of her 2 sides of the rigging there would be a mini runway with 3 planes in one and 2 in the other. she is holding a flag, planting it in the ground, it's the flag of the eagle unionshe's looking to the right, her right leg in a higer elevation because she's standing in some rocks. she has striking blue eyes, a serious yet beautiful face, and long, brown hairand is thicc too. not taihou thicc, but thicc nonetheless

And I am 100% ready to be disappointed if Kearsarge is in PR6, because I know for certain she will NOT look anything like this. But HEY. AT LEAST I'LL HAVE KEARSARGE.

Even so, this pirate adventure surprised me with the breadth of its world, the richness of its commerce simulation, and an approachable and rewarding naval combat system. As a living game built around seasonal content and a growing universe, it has a ways to go to be at its best, but the bones of a quality experience are here.

You are a treasure-hungry pirate eager for infamy as you set out across the Indian Ocean, tracking down treasure chests, plundering seaside towns, and, most prominently, battling other ships on the high seas. On-foot activity is reserved for social spaces and the most minimal of story development – the entirety of action unfolds on the water, where you develop an impressive array of ships and weaponry through your ill-gotten gains.

Launching where the maritime voyages of the Assassin’s Creed games left off, I enjoyed the deliberate pacing of sea exploration and movement, punctuated by the regular interruption of cannon fire and mortars. Especially in the early hours, I was often transfixed by the sights and sounds of moving across the water, listening to my crew’s sea shanties, watching for breaching whales, and using my spyglass to spot distant shipwrecks. It’s a big and beautifully crafted world of island-rich open waters and tricky narrow riverways.

Combat has just enough complexity to remain entertaining as you balance turning speed, facing, and aiming to maximize damage output while dodging or bracing against the worst attacks of your opponents. The real fun comes from building and tweaking your boat as an engine of destruction; the variety of ship builds and approaches to fighting kept me consistently interested in chasing that next upgrade. I appreciated the approach to tracking specific items and upgrades, with clear markings on the map for where to find what you want. Because of that, it becomes about whether you have enough money to buy something or a powerful enough ship to take it.

The bulk of play is PvE encounters against privateers, merchants, and corporation ships, played either solo or cooperatively. Even if the open servers allow for both structured and informal PvP, my anecdotal experience was that most players were focused on their own adventures. If they joined a battle, it was often to help out. Your mileage may vary, but I liked the mix of mostly campaign-style progression with the option to connect with other players when I wanted.

Beyond ramming and blowing up other ships, Skull and Bones’ other core pillar is commerce. Ubisoft has built a robust trading system, the most lucrative of which involves illicit rum and opium shipments. I appreciated how the game allows players to choose how much they want to engage here. The selling of commodities gathered from sunken ships is the most superficial layer, but you can also run your own manufacturing and delivery contracts for higher sums. And as you round the corner into the endgame, an entire kingpin empire opens up, letting you take over lumberyards and other factories to generate income passively.

The pirate life eventually wears out its welcome; many of the game’s most significant problems only arise after many hours of play. While it’s fun in the early hours getting your bearings in an unfamiliar sea, later side and main missions become painfully repetitive. Long ocean voyages start to lose their charm, and a fast travel system that only works from port feels increasingly restrictive since you’re often eager to return to a mission giver to keep the action moving.

The freeform progression that was so welcome in the early hours also causes problems over time, as it’s too easy to be over- or under-leveled for certain content you might wish to confront, robbing many encounters of tension since the winning party is so evident from the outset.

The storytelling is incredibly sparse, led by very few core contacts, all of whose arcs are pretty one-note. And while it’s nice that you can customize the look of your pirate captain, their voiceless absence of personality feels especially ill-suited to the big personalities you expect in a classic pirate tale. 

Nonetheless, the combination of building a commerce empire, sea monster hunts, engaging in late-game PvE and PvP events, and the chance to continue tweaking and building your ideal pirate ship has appeal even after the core story missions wrap up, giving me hope that longterm endgame could be entertaining. And while it’s early days, I saw potential in the larger ship team-up activities I tried out, where each ship takes on specific roles like you might see in an MMO.

Despite its long and circuitous course to arrive at port, Skull and Bones is the type of game that may change significantly in the coming months. But to evaluate it as it stands, fellow pirate enthusiasts may discover what I did – a flawed but beautifully presented historical fantasy in which one can take to the water and make a fortune, even if absolutely everything about the pirate life isn’t always pretty.

 is opening its doors to the RP community for recruitment. Join and experience some of the most active, long-running, and involving plots on the server, as well as a wonderful group of friends to attend them with.

House Stygian is a community active, heavy RP guild with a lawful neutral alignment. We are a naval and expeditionary themed organization focusing on the action/adventure side of DM storylines. We do transporting of supplies, storyline events, combat training nights, scientific/lore events, and other social events; such as drinking games, brawl nights, and community events.

As of now, we are actively engaged in story through Legion, into BfA, in terms of lore-following events. We have at least 2-3 social events a week. As well as normally 1-2 plot events for our ongoing story. Not only that, we actively engage in PvE, doing raids weekly, as well as Mythic+ runs regularly to help our members gear, and experience end-game content. Gaining a good reputation as an RP guild can be hard. As such, House Stygian strives to adhere to global standard of a drama-free environment. We cater to every type of schedule, and form events that will match anyone who seeks to join. We are particular of who we allow to enter our ranks, as we pursue a literate, and maturity standard for our members. This may seem restrictive, but if you can type coherently, and act like a logical adult (when you need to), you will fit in perfectly.

From oath nights every fortnight, where our members bind their honor to an allegiance with their house, to brawl nights, where members can lay out feuds for all to see, as well as test their meddle in varied combat. We cover most of the spectrum, when it comes to events. We also allow our members the opportunity to build their own events, and plot out their own storylines, for their fellow wolves to follow.

The Stygian family carries on a rich, dark theme. Building a dynasty from the pieces of a previous defeated, and fractured family, our legacy continues, tenfold in strength. With great leadership, we bear the banner of gold and crimson with pride.

The Banner: A golden, howling wolf upon a foundation of crimson. The crimson represents the blood that stains the field as a foundation for a pristine golden entity to arise. As such, the dark history of Stygian is accursed through years of bloodshed, only to formulate a house with pure desires, and a wealthy tariff of trade, and other reputable forms of business between other guilds and noble houses.

Our Mission: To better the great kingdom of Stormwind, and the Alliance as a whole. To do that, we raise our banner to humanitarian, liberation, and philanthropic efforts across Azeroth. We carry out military expeditions to combat, and defeat antagonistic groups that threaten those less fortunate.

You, or your character, will fit in House Stygian if...

Your character is attentive, and willing to be loyal to a cause.

You OOCly are a logical RPer, and do not mind the occasional roll-based fighting event.

You OOCly are mature enough to have a conversation without being offended, and having people walk on eggshells around you.

You OOCly are pleasant to be around, and do not cause drama on a regular basis.

You OOCly do not demand attention to be placed on your character as a hero for every situation, and do not attempt to take the spotlight from other RPers. Everyone has their moment to shine.

The Ranks of House Stygian

Every recruit requires an In-Character interview in order to gain an In-Character rank. The ranks are as follows:

The Countess (GM): Lady Natalie Brooke, heir-presumptive to House Stygian, and direct heiress of House Brooke.

Liege-Commanders (Co-GMs): Commanders, and hosts of the High Council. Above the divisions’ direct councilors, they act as direct delegates of the countess, using the combined strength of the divisions to assure they are all utilized to their full potential.

High Council (Senior Officers): Division Leaders, and primary commanders of operations within the house.

Roseguard (Junior Officers, and commanders in the field):  Stygian’s most trusted. Tried and tested through the Trial of the Rose to be promoted from the general divisions into the officer core. They are pulled from those that excel in any of the four primary divisions listed below.

Physician (Medical Division):  For characters with healing capabilities; divided into combat medicine, and clinical medicine. For combat and non-combat individuals.

The Lady's Fang (Specialist Division): Operations; intel of House Stygian, led by the Operative Captain. They are the task force that detaches to complete reconnaissance and detailed operations. The tip of the spear.

Rose Battalion (Ground Forces Division): Specialized in ground tactics, the battalion operates as a well-oiled machine to lay siege upon enemy forces, and to out-maneuver their opponents in the field.

Vale Scholar (Scholar/Caster Division): The researchers, skilled incanters, and general highbrows of the organization. These gifted individuals are the lifeblood of House Stygian’s research and development core. Between offering lore lessons, studying artifacts and items of interest recovered from operations, and managing supernatural affairs as a contact between the house and the Kirin Tor, they often are the most busied of our order.

Contingent (Enlisted):  Unproven combatants, or skilled workers; handmaidens, blacksmiths, chefs of House Stygian. Those who enlist in Stygian begin as a Contingent, until they’ve proven themselves in the field to be placed among the proven Stygians in their aspired division.

Ancillary (OOC rank): Alternate characters, characters awaiting interviews, friends of the guild, or characters ICly dismissed from House Stygian pending return (for story, or otherwise).

Certains jours je suis une Pirate...

Te voila enfin, Pirate de Mers de Sea of Thieves ! Il est temps pour moi de te parler de la foi ou j’ai failli ne pas m’en sortir dans les cavernes de Flameheart !

Enfin... si je m’en suis sortie, non sans mal, et c’était pas plus tard qu’hier !  Sans déconner, ce jeu c’est une petite bombe !

Si vous aimez la mer, naviguer, les pirates et les batailles navales, ce jeu est fait pour vous ! 

Sea of Thieves est jouable seul, ou par équipage de 2, 3 ou  4 joueurs. En fonction du nombre, votre bateau ne sera pas le même. Seul ou a deux, vous aurez un Sloop, un petit bateau, à une voile, rapide, facile à manier. Muni de deux canons, un de chaque côté du navire. A trois (idéalement, mais aussi à deux si vous vous sentez) le Brigantin sera le navire qu’il vous faut. Un peu plus gros que le Sloop, muni de 2 mâts (une voile simple et une voile double, 4 canons (2 bâbord et 2 tribord), ce navire est un peu plus compliqué a manier que le sloop, car plus imposant, mais c’est gérable. A quatre, il vous faudra le Galion ! Imposant vaisseau, 3 mâts, 6 canons, en général les navires plus petits vous évitent (surtout si vous représentez les Reaper), force est de constater qu’il a une puissance de feu plus importante... encore faut-il quelqu’un de doué à la barre, pour gérer la navigation pendant le combat. Les batailles navales peuvent se faire en PvE, contre des navires squelettes (reconnaissables à leurs voiles déchirées, et aux lanternes vertes et bleues allumées sur le navire - les joueurs en général éteignent les lanternes pour passer un peu plus inaperçus en mer -), des navires fantômes (lors de l’évènement Flameheart, que vous trouverez aisément, une grosse tête de squelette fantomatique jaune orangée flotte dans le ciel au dessus de là ou se déroule l’évent) ou en PvP contre d’autres joueurs. Normalement si vous avez le drapeau blanc, la majorité des joueurs ne vous attaquent pas si vous ne faites pas feu en 1er - code des pirates oblige - mais pas tous ! Donc, si vous naviguez seul, un conseil... évitez de croiser qui que ce soit ^^’ Je vous rassure, il n’y a pas que les batailles navale dans ce jeu ! Loin de là !! La nouvelle saison apporte son lot de quêtes et de “Haut Faits” à faire pour gagner en réputation et récolter des tonnes de pièces d’or ! Vous pourrez, lors de vos voyages, représenter plusieurs émissaires : * Les Collectionneurs d’or : qui vous proposent des quêtes pour découvrir des trésors enfouis sur des Iles, que vous devrez leur ramener. Une carte vous est donnée lorsque la quête est active, le nom de l’Ile n’est pas mentionné, vous devez la trouver sur votre carte de navigation grâce à sa forme et naviguer vers elle, en faisant face aux dangers de la mer.... je vous en reparlerai plus bas.

* L’Ordre des Ames, quand a eux, vous demandent d’aller tuer des capitaines squelettes, sur des Iles en particulier, et de leur ramener leur crânes.

* Les Marchands : vous demandent de retrouver des navires perdus en mer lors de voyages commerciaux et de ramener le manifeste de voyage (et leur cargaison si vous trouvez la clef). C’est sympa car, vous avez la carte de la traversée, le nom du point de départ, de l’arrivée, et la trajectoire suivie. Il vous faudra suivre (a peu près) cette trajectoire, pour trouver des indices en mer (grâce aux mouettes) et surtout trouver une clé, celle de la cabine du capitaine, ou se trouve la cargaison (qui vous permet de gagner plus d’or et de réputation).

*La Fortune D’Athéna, qui n’est jouable que si vous avez atteint la réputation niveau 50 avec les 3 émissaires précédents (ou si un de vos camarades de jeu l’a débloquée) qui propose diverses quêtes (je n’ai fais que la 1ere il y a un moment, avec mon chéri, je n’ai pas le lvl requis encore pour les faire moi)

* L’Os de la Faucheuse, ou Reaper, les plus craint ! Sous ce pavillon, votre but est de couler, piller et prendre le pavillons des navires des autres joueurs. C’est pourquoi, en général, si vous avez un pavillon Reaper, les autres navires vont vous éviter. Les Reaper sont visibles sur les cartes de navigation des autres joueurs, et les Reaper peuvent voir les navires Rang 5 des autres émissaires.

En plus des joueurs, des vaisseaux squelettes et fantômes, vous allez devoir éviter... ou combattre... le MEGALODON (plusieurs en réalité, de couleurs différentes et plus ou moins faciles a tuer) et, le pire de tous LE KRAKEN !! Je vous laisse la joie de découvrir en jeu ces deux monstres des mers :D

Qui plus est, votre or vous permettra : * De modifier votre apparence, en achetant des tenues, des coupes de cheveux/barbe, des colorations, tatouages et maquillage. * De modifier l’apparence de votre navire en achetant des skins de Coque, figures de proue, voiles, cabestan, barre, canons

Certains se débloquent suite a des haut faits, d’autres sont disponibles sur certains évents ou après avoir effectué des Fables (quêtes spécifiques disponibles dans les auberges soit à côté du mystérieux étranger ou sur le comptoir près de la tavernière)

Vous pourrez aussi pêcher, faire cuire votre prise et aller la vendre à des Seapost, pour augmenter une autre réputation (qui ne propose pas de quêtes à ma connaissance - si y’a des joueurs qui me lisent vous pourrez éclairer ma lanterne la dessus).

Perso, en tant que Fashion victim autoproclamée, j’ai jamais une thune, mais franchement, en aillant un pavillon et en jouant 2h, il est facile de se faire 14k Gold voir beaucoup plus si vous avez des event sur votre route.

Je vous dévoile pas tout, il y a beaucoup a découvrir In Game, mais je penses qu’avec mon pavé, vous aurez compris que je vous conseille ce jeu a 200% ! C’est une vraie bombe ! Et si jamais vous jouez, sur Xbox ou PC, et que vous cherchez un équipage, faites moi signe :D

How Submarines Are Invading World of Warships

Like the greatest naval commanders throughout history, World of Warships developer Lesta Studio is all about the numbers. In the four years since it first exited its open beta harbour and entered the waters of full release, the free-to-play World of Warships has accumulated over 30 million registered users, with a combined total of over 130 million ships acquired, more than 180 billion in-game kilometres travelled, and some 612 billion shots fired. (“Some of them actually hit their targets, and some of them actually sank their targets as well,” jokes global executive producer Artur Plociennik.)

This obsession with data and statistical analysis is why, despite the protests of a small but vocal crowd on the World of Warships official forum and subreddit, Lesta Studio is set to launch submarines into the game late in 2019. Buoyed by the success of 2018’s Halloween event, Terror of the Deep, which saw submarines introduced for a limited time in a PvE scenario mode, and backed up by the raw metrics that proved just how engaged the audience was with the new submersible vessels, Lesta Studio is confident that the time is right for submarines to become the fifth class in World of Warships.

“It took us a while to [introduce submarines] because we didn’t believe the game and the audience were ready for them,” explains Plociennik. “There wasn’t enough content diversity in the game, there weren’t enough interactions between different mechanics. The game was simply not mature enough to have a new class added.”

“Right now, we believe we do have that diversity. We have a mature audience that is ready for another shake up. We have a huge amount of data about how players interacted with [submarines in the Halloween event] very specifically. How they tended to use oxygen, when they would fire torpedoes, how they would approach enemies, and would they be confrontational or very cautious?”

“Data like that allowed us to see whether this concept had any merit.”

The hardcore players, the ones more versed in the role that submarines played in early 20th century naval combat operations, were fussy with resource management and didn’t rush too close to enemies, preferring to utilise stealth as much as possible. The casual players on the other hand, just went headlong into full ramming speed.

“And both groups had fun, ultimately,” says Plociennik.

Testing the Waters

The first three nations in World of Warships to receive the submarine class will be the United States, Germany and the USSR. The Americans are getting the Cachalot (Tier VI), the Salmon (Tier VIII) and the Balao (Tier X), the Germans will have the U-69 (Tier VI), the U-190 (Tier VIII) and the U-2501 (Tier X), while the Soviets will get the S-1 (Tier VI), the L-20 (Tier VIII) and the K1 (Tier X). Japanese submarines are currently in development, and will be introduced as the next line after the initial three nations.

“All of the subs start at Tier VI, and there’s just going to be three tiers initially,” says Plociennik. “Partially this is for better balancing, because it allows us to balance submarines within their tier bracket without expressly having to balance them against their own tier, then the mid tier, and then the top tier. It just allows us to have fewer interactions to worry about in the initial balance.”

The other reason for the limited tiers is history itself. Submarine development was still in its very early stages in the first half of the 20th century, so there weren’t as many significant designs or major advancements being made as with the surface ships at the time.

“We did our best to choose the most significant designs for [the three] nations,” says Plociennik. “But if we’d chosen to have a longer tech tree, it wouldn’t necessarily have allowed us to have that many differences or that many visible improvements between [the chosen subs].”

Prepare for Dive

The new submarines class provides a thrilling, stealth-based experience that’s unlike anything else players have become used to in World of Warships.

“The role of submarines in World of Warships is one of strategic positioning,” explains Plociennik. “They will be the class that gets into positions that nobody expects them to be in, to either give their team an advantage by breaking up enemy formations, or dislodging enemy ships that may be using a very static gameplay style and hiding behind islands or staying in the second line for a long period of time, particularly aircraft carriers and battleships.”

Subs are able to move between surface, periscope, and fully submerged depths, with the latter making the player invisible to others but only for as long as the contents of their oxygen tanks last. Strategic positioning and risk management is key, since submarines need to move to periscope depth and thus become visible to surface ships nearby and aircraft overhead, in order to fire their torpedoes.

Once a torpedo is fired, submarines can use a hydroacoustic wave in order to turn their torpedo into a homing torpedo. Enemy vessels nearby get little indicators on their bow and stern once your torpedo is in motion, and you need to hit both of these indicators with a sweeping pulse from the hydroacoustic wave in order to steer the underwater missile towards them. There is a cool-down timer on the hydroacoustic wave, and thus if you don’t get it just right your torpedo can propel wide of your target and detonate somewhere in the distance, but it’s typically worth the risk since a successful homing torpedo hit will ignore the anti-torpedo bulge on a target and detonate underneath it, doing substantially more damage than a regular torpedo hit. But you need to be careful that you don’t leave yourself open to counterattack.

“You’ll be able to use [hydroacoustic wave] for all of your torpedo spreads for as long as you remain in periscope depth,” explains Plociennik. “But that also means you need to weigh the risk of being detected, because at periscope depth you’ll also be moving very slowly.”

Submarines in World of Warships move at a speed somewhere between 5-10 knots, which is virtually at a standstill. Thus the most efficient way to attack with a submarine is to emerge into periscope depth, launch a torpedo, steer it with the hydroacoustic wave and then sink back down into deep underwater in order retreat or skirt around your target for a follow up attack.

In order to temper their lethality, the introduction of submarines is also bringing about a change to the destroyer class. When destroyers come within 4-5km of a submarine it will trigger a mini-game, where a circular zone will appear on the map, simulating the way destroyers used to triangulate the position of subs in real battles. When you steer your destroyer into the zone, a smaller zone appears, and you must keep manoeuvring into the increasingly smaller zones before you arrive in an area immediately above the submarine at which point the destroyer will automatically start deploying depth charges.
