Rúnminations: I: Control
[concept/disclaimer/etc]
As I've taught the elder for years based on the surviving poems, lived experience comes to factor in. (Is this the difference in Óðinn's runemasters charge between interpret and receive? Who's to say.) So to start, I want to talk about Nauðiz, Perðo, Laguz, and the concept of control.
Tumblr media
With Nauðiz, we have no control. We have "scant choice," we experience "state[s] of oppression and toilsome work." Many people see Hagalaz as the rune with the bad wrap, but there is agency in Hagalaz (although that's a different post). With Nauðiz, we are chilled by the frost. We have no choice. There is a lack of control, which is (in this rune's perspective, rightfully) troublesome and hurtful to us. I see Nauðiz also in relationship to Raiðo through its link with 'toil': the message, sometimes you are the horse.
The only other rune that offers no control is Perðo. Perðo, the rune of the unknown and unknowable: the dice cup of chance. As Jeanette Winterson wrote (unrelatedly), "You play, you win. You play, you lose. You play. It's the playing that's irresistible. [...] What you risk reveals what you value." We play because we have no control. If you fixed the game, if you knew for certain the outcome, it would no longer be a game—it would be something else. The joy of the game is the lack of control. In both Nauðiz and Perðo, we're given two looks at how to experience a lack of control in our situations.
I used to talk about the tensions between these two runes all the time, and it wasn't until this month that I experienced Laguz's lessons as it relates to control. Yes, yes, water, of all kinds, water and flow. Water that falls and water that swells, water that eddies, water that dazzles, confuses, terrifies. And how to learn from that. Words that, previously, landed in me like 'surrender,' 'flexibility,' 'adaptation.'
Recently, I've found another way to describe it: it's the choice to give up control. When I see it, now it says to me, You can have control here, in Laguz, if you want it—you can always swim upstream—but the suggestion is, perhaps, that you would flow further if you let go and let the current take you.

"Neglected"
EDIT: This is a drawing made after a year of lockdown, a simple combination of symbols and meanings i created for a canceled (i think, at this point) LungiDaMe fanzine number. Took me a while to finally express certain thoughts and emotions with my minimalist style, but I feel pretty satisfied with this. If you look closely, you'll notice a pair of eyes that are not ignoring.

part of it (a lot of it) might just be that i'm high, but i just watched Tarzan (the animated movie one) for the first time in my life (slightly a lie) and I'm losing my absolute gourd
when he repeats jane, he mimics her accent AND pitch because he's learned always through mimicking (nevrmind that he somehow becomes amiercan)
the animation is fucking amazing, nuff said there
at the end jane repeats "jane stay with tarzan" in gorilla-language-or-whatever and its so cool that she actually took the time to memorize that
i liked the professor guy. old dorky dudes like him are a personal favorite of mine
even when he gestures tarzan keeps his fingers somewhat curled because that's what his body knows
again i'm high and this probably isn't that exciting but im having a good time 🍃🍃🍃🍃🍃🍃
Oh yeah and the body language is unbelievably good

Loki is the Norse god of mischief, and the hard cold truth, even tho he may be cold, he is wise, and charming in many ways.
I use resources, I do not own the info, and most deep dives have UPG (that I use in my work.) And I only take some information from sources. I am 14, this is my hobby, I am learning but I spent many hours and days on this, and I am always open to criticism. I have been doing worship for 5 years. Please know you can use the info, I do not sue, but I will take action if this work is used without permission and not put as a resource if used in any work. without permisson and not put as a resource if used in any work, for the public.

TCL creator's official game page: https://irodorian.com/houten Bulletforge DL page: https://www.bulletforge.org/u/naudiz/p/dong-fang-bao-tian-jing-treasure-castle-labyrinth
The EX Stage and other extra content will be added over the following months. I'm really proud to have gotten this game out the door, and I hope a lot of people enjoy playing it! :D

do you have any facts about dreidels?
Though the Dreidel is now associated with Judaism and Hannukah, it was in fact a Viking tradition from Norway in the 800s.
Bloodnar Kriegfang invented the Dreidel in order to decide what torture to inflict upon his captives. To this end, he inscribed four runes on each side of a spinning toy that was carved for him by his great-grand aunt. The runes, Naudiz-Gebo-Haglaz-Sowilo determined whether the victim would be hanged by piercings through their ankles from a tree, forced to walk away from a hook through their intestines, "blood-eagled," or forced to work retail during the holidays.
The Viking-Jewish accords of the 1700s saw Judaism borrow many traditions from the north, including the Dreidel. As Jews of the time had little use for antiquated torture methods and the Vikings had already died out centuries earlier, the object became a Hanukkah tradition because why not. The runes were turned to Hebrew, Nun-Gimel-Heh-Shin, which stood for "Nes Gadol Haya Sham" which is Hebrew for "Some Shit Went Down."
A game was invented to involve the Dreidel, in which different types of nut were bet and taken by the winner, including hazelnuts, pecans, walnuts and pistachios. I figured this was a family tradition and it was normally just a gambling thing but apparently literally every single Jewish person I know also played with nuts, so I guess the answer to traditional gambling substitution really is "Deez Nuts."
Anyhow, if you roll a Nun, you do nothing; a Gimel means you win the pot, a Heh means you get half the pot, and a Shin means you add an entire walnut. The modern five-sided Dreidel also adds an Aleph, and if you roll an Aleph you are trapped in Jumani until someone else rolls another Aleph, or possibly a Lambda.

30 days of devotion to Loki
day 22 & 23
day 22: a poem, quote or other piece of writing you think this deity resonates with
day 23: an own composition, piece of writing to this deity
A quote that I personally think Loki would resonate is
“Be yourself, even when others don’t want you to be.”
And my own composition piece of choice to share, would be my prayer to him!
Loki Prayer
May the Algiz protect me.
I call on you Laguz, Othala, Kenaz, Isa. Loki.
I want to thank you deity, god, Loki, for choosing me. For choosing to grace me with your presence and magic.
You are truly a beautiful wonder to worship. I am forever grateful for your magic, and using your hands to guide me.
I [stand or sit], with you, looking you in the eye.
In the fire of my heart, may you be worshiped and hailed. May you guide me within the storm. Loki, cunning, wise and wild..
I call upon you today, deity, god, Loki [reason]. Thank you, please grace me with Kenaz. Knowledge, creativity, power and such. Naudiz and Thurisaz.

Youger Futhark - 8th~12th Century
The names of the 16 runes of the Younger futhark are recorded in the Icelandic and Norwegian rune poems. The names are:
ᚠ fé ("wealth")
ᚢ úr ("iron"/"rain")
ᚦ Thurs ("thurs", a type of entity, see jötunn)
ᚬ As/Oss ("(a) god")
ᚱ reið ("ride")
ᚴ kaun ("ulcer")
ᚼ hagall ("hail")
ᚾ/ᚿ nauðr ("need")
ᛁ ísa/íss ("ice")
ᛅ/ᛆ ár ("plenty")
ᛋ/ᛌ sól ("Sun", personified as a deity—see Sól (Germanic mythology))
ᛏ/ᛐ Týr ("Týr, a deity")
ᛒ björk/bjarkan/bjarken ("birch")
ᛘ maðr ("man, human")
ᛚ lögr ("sea")
ᛦ yr ("yew")
From comparison with Anglo-Saxon and Gothic letter names, most of these names directly continue the names of the Elder Futhark runes. The exceptions to this are:
• yr which continues the name of the unrelated Eihwaz rune;
• thurs and kaun, in which cases the Old Norse, Anglo-Saxon and Gothic traditions diverge.

Hello, how are you? May i ask for a rune reading please? I wanted to know how my future spouse will treat me in our relationship? Thanks a lot for this opportunity 🙏. Hugely appreciate it. I'm C 💛.
Hi! I am doing well thank you! For your reading I drew three runes, Naudiz, Enwaz, and Dagaz.
Tumblr media
Together these three runes tell a story of testing times that you two will share, relying on each other to push through. During these difficulted phases in your lives, the two of you will endure.
Of course, this is only one possible outcome the runes have given so nothing is truely set in stone.
Hope this helps!
Abalancedrose.

There is no denying the nervous hope that shines in her expression as she watches him turn the band over. It was silly. Little more than a trinket. But at the time of it's making, she had hoped it would be understood as an olive branch. And the distraction for her hands had been no small mercy as rumour and speculation filled her belly with anxiety.
The redhead nods most enthusiastically. Excited to claim her craft. And just as quickly as her excitement had burst forth, it fizzled. Why didn't she make it do something?! It's not as though she lacked the means.
"Oh, uhm, no. But if you wanted, I could put protection runes on it." A lie, she doesn't know she speaks. One she'll later harbour deep and ruinous guilt over.
"These are the first letters of my name and your name, see?" She points to the Hagalaz and then.. without asking, takes his hand and starts drawing the runes on his palm. "Mine, (ᚺ) Hagalaz, (ᛖ) ehwaz, (ᛚ) laguz." And then she points to the Kaunan, "And yours. (ᚲ) Kaunan, (ᚨ) ansuz, (ᚱ) raidō, (ᛞ) dagaz, (ᚨ) ansuz, (ᚾ) naudiz."
Tumblr media
Long, deft fingers lift the silver band for a better look, turning it until the runes reflect the warm light of the lanterns. It is true that Cardan is fond of gold, but there is no lack of love for silver either. It is simply not his first choice. Though, there is no denying the expert craftsmanship of this gift either way…
Tumblr media
“You made it?” he asks, eying her with a single lifted brow. A strange talent for a princess. “Does it do anything?”
Enchanted jewelry is by no means unheard of in Elfhame, though all of Cardan’s pieces are purely decorative.

Music ask game - 3, 7, 10, 16, 20, 28, 30!
Hi hello, thank you for sending me some of these! <3
3: A song that reminds you of summertime
So there's this one summer, 2004, that eternally stuck in my mind, in no small part because of the summer hit in Germany that year - the one and only, the legendary Dragostea Din Tei by O-Zone.
7: A song to drive to
Queen's "I Want to Break Free", specifically because a previous partner of my mom was a huge Queen fan and would always blast a best-of album when he drove us anywhere. This one was his favorite. I have a lot of memories I associate with it.
10: A song that makes you sad
Play Crack the Sky by Brand New never fails to destroy me.
16: One of your favorite classical songs
Mayhaps a bit basic but I love In the Hall of the Mountain King.
20: A song that has many meanings to you
Glitter & Gold by Barns Courtney. It's a song with special significance to my shitty ex, but also a song I associate with my D&D campaign, Voidsong. It also just plain slaps. So, big feelings going on whenever I listen to it.
28: A song by an artist with a voice that you love
Omnos by Eluveitie. Anna Murphy has a gorgeous voice. I picked this song because to this day, I have no idea what it's about, so I can just enjoy Anna's voice, lol.
30: A song that reminds you of yourself
This one is tricky. I'm gonna go with NaudiR by Wardruna. "Naudiz" was my internet nickname for almost a decade, and I deeply identify with the concept of enduring despite the odds, of resilience, of finding strength through adversity.

Just looked up brittle bones nicky on here and wow. I thought for sure it would have a decently sized fandom around it.
Anyways yeah brittle bones nicky is great. And I mean that in song, story, AND character. Dude's been dealt shit hand after shit hand and just told the world everytime, "nah fuck that. I'm gonna go do coke/reform into an upstanding citizen/escape from hell/join a circus."
