Quote
There is symbolic as well as actual beauty in the migration of birds, in the ebb and flow of the tides; in the folded bud ready for the spring. There is something infinitely healing in these repeated refrains of nature — the assurance that dawn comes after night, and spring after winter.

Ok so in my quest of overanalysing every scene with Wei and Wing in it, I did eventually take this one under my microscope.
Tumblr media
I like seeing how in sync Wei and Wing are. It's always so fun to see the twins bending in sync so much.
But this scene also gives us an interesting look into Kuvira's deteriorating psyche. We can see that due to the continuing of the protagas' resistance to her. She's growing mor erratic, aggresive and desperate.
Tumblr media
So it's pretty interesting that this screen is immediately followed by the scene of Kuvira firing at the twins. Since we know that she has known them since she was at least 8 and for at least a time, referred to by Suyin as their sister. Now, this won't be the first time Kuvira had fired at someone from the family who adopted her and swverely injured them. Baatar and Opal both got shot at and passed out for a bit. However, when Kuvira fired both those shots, she was clearly targeting groups rather than them as individuals. And part of me does want to see this as a marker of Kuvira getting more and more desperate to win and more and more aggresive, a theme we see with her throughout the season.
I also love Suyin's expressions in this scene?
She looks so intense. And I'm not surprised, she's already seen two of her kids close to death and we know how much she loves her kids and how protective she is. I mean, she barely felt confident to let Opal move out less than 5 years ago and now her children are 0 to 4 against the Nukebot.
But she also looks super pissed. And while I know there was no love lost between them that took Su from wanting Kuvira stopped bacause Kuvira was a threat to "You're going to pay for what you've done".
Tumblr media
Like I firmly believe that the comics not mentioning Opal and the twins also almost dying is just so it would be easier to redeem Kuvira and dowplay her rift with the rest of teh Beifong family. By presenting Su and Opal as semi unreasonable in their dislike of Kuvira it makes it easier to make Kuvira look better. Hence the focus on Baatar Jr being hurt by Kuvira because he was the only one of the four to semi deserve it.
Tumblr media
And also this is like one of the Lin scenes I actually genuinely adore, because I think it really shows how much Lin actively cares not just for Su, but for her extended family.
I wish we had explored Lin's relationship with her niblijgs more, because we see that she at least has a protective side around teens and gets along with them in her own special little way. Probably because Lin herself is quite immature and oftem acts like a broody teen herself. And I think that seeing her bond with her niblings before she starts mending her relationship with Su and Toph would be a very natural progression for her.
Tumblr media
Btw I absolutely adore how she just YOINKS them out of the air. She is holding two young men under her arms like they're kittens what an icon.
Tumblr media
I especially like this scene becaus in my personal headcanons- the twins probably didn't like Lin that much? Like they're so fiercely loyal to Su and Opal that I don't think they'd take too kindly to Lin appearing out of nowhere, driving Opal to tears and then proceeding to physically attack Suyin.
But then again, Wei was the first to be swung across the cavern by Lin, something I assume would require quite a bit of trust in both Bolin (👀) and Lin.
Tumblr media
I also think that the twins got knocked out by the blast here. Like we've seen that even being in the vicinity of the blast can render someone unconscious. And the twins are visibly sorta freefalling here. Despite the blast not having cut off that much of their metal wiring, they don't seem to be able to try and stop their falls, so they could very well be unconscious or dazed and concussed.
Tumblr media
They also kinda just flop onto the ground and lie there after getting rescued and we don't see them for the rest of the episode so I assume they were taken out of commision somehow.
I also love how even though Suyin made that earth tent to protect them, Lin still seems to be shielding them with her body?

me when tumblr recommends me someone defending dr3 in the tags and i read through the entire thing and get mad bc they don't understand what brainwashing really is.
Tumblr media
#'brainwashing has been a staple of the series for a long time' they say (mostly talking about mind control)#mind control in the fictional sense not the real world sense btw#magical/technological means of instantly controlling ones thoughts#the video in dr0? yeah. brainwashing. they were watching it ON FUCKING LOOP over and over to the point of desensitizing themselves#they were already vulnerable to start with as well. it was fucking conditioning them. not controlling them directly – brainwashing them#the monokuma kids? DIRECT MIND CONTROL#THEY ARE WEARING FUCKING HELMETS ON THEIR HEADS AND HAVE NO CONTROL OVER THEMSELVES OR THEIR AUTONOMY#THAT IS NOT BRAINWASHING!! THAT IS FUCKING!! PUPPETEERING THEM#they brought up smthn in the togami book. never read that but apparently there's a book that spreads despair disease#(info gotten from unreliable source in the book)#tbh it's probably propaganda to help despair spread better#it doesn't have to be fucking literal#also despair disease... if it is anything like dr2... IS NOT BRAINWASHING#IT JUST FUCKIN TAKES OVER THEIR BODY/OVERRIDES THEIR PERSONALITY AUTOMATICALLY#IT'S A MIND ALTERING ILLNESS???#NOT!! BRAINWASHING!!#and then of course saying brainwashing in dr3 is the natural conclusion and that it doesn't retcon anything#AND I AGREE BRAINWASHING IS THE NATURAL CONCLUSION. BUT DR3 DIDN'T DO THAT#it just fucking... made them flip a switch out of nowhere?#MIKAN SAID SHE BECAME THE WAY SHE DID DUE TO HER RELATIONSHIPS WITH OTHERS#NOT BC SHE WATCHED SILLY DESPAIR VIDEO#to use magic subliminal messaging to INSTANTLY change the way someone thinks isn't brainwashing in your typical sense. that's mind control#let's define brainwashing shall we?#a method for systematically changing attitudes or altering beliefs#originated in totalitarian countries#especially through the use of torture— drugs— or psychological-stress techniques#or perhaps this one:#any method of controlled systematic indoctrination especially one based on repetition and confusion#REPEATED TORTURE. hi :)) please can you do "stay where you are. i'm coming to get you" with biker!gale and leaving!john 🫣 they've gotten under my skin
Tumblr media
background context in this brainrot | i combined these three dialogue prompts because i feel like they fit well together <33 more leaving bikeriders au yippie!!! tried not to get too deep into it since i am gonna be properly writing it at some point :-) | prompts
Gale’s ringer goes off as he walks through the front door of his house, and he fumbles for his phone in his pocket, brows furrowing in confusion when he sees John’s contact photo.
He’s only just returned from dropping him off a street down from his house– always paranoid about eagle–eyed parents– but he hadn’t rode off until he got the text confirming he made it inside, so he assumes this isn’t an “I got locked out, can you come get me?” call.
“Miss me already?” He smiles when he picks up, but he doesn’t get a laugh in return, just a shaky breath, and he tenses, finding the door handle.
“John?” He prompts, mind cycling through every possible scenario and feeling his stomach drop when John confirms his worries.
“Um, can you come get me?” He sounds small, voice unsteady. “Got into it with my dad.”
Gale knows this must’ve been a serious one, because his John has gotten good (in a way no one should have to) at shaking altercations with his parents off, so he’s out the door in a heartbeat, helmet under his arm.
“Course, baby,” he says immediately, not giving John any room to overthink. “You by your house?”
“Where you dropped me off,” John confirms.
“You want me to stay on the phone?” He asks, not wanting to leave him alone if he feels unsafe, even if he’ll be there in a few minutes.
“No, ‘s okay,” John says.
“Alright, stay where you are,” Gale starts up his bike. “I’m coming to get you.”
He manages to cut a good minute off the usual time it takes to get there; the quiet of the night helps, not much traffic to slow him down, but he’s still antsy the whole way, only feeling like he can breathe right again when he sees a familiar form slouched over at the curb, backpack at his side.
His heart shatters when he gets his helmet off and walks over and the first thing John does is apologize as he stands up, as if he has anything to be sorry for, and he can tell his eyes are red, headlights of his bike reflecting off the still–damp tears on his cheeks.
“Baby,” he softens his voice, pulling him into a tight hug. “Have you been crying? What happened?”
John melts in his embrace, burying his face into his neck.
“Guess they were waiting up for me to come back,” he mumbles, inhaling nervously. “Dad came into my room after I texted you, and he was…”
John pulls back, shaking his head.
“I’m not allowed back in,” he won’t look Gale in the eyes, and his hand shakes when he runs it through his hair. “I’m really sorry for calling you, I just didn’t know what else to do.”
One side of John’s face sports a red mark in the shape of a hand, and Gale grits his teeth, but he doesn’t comment on it, knowing John will just ask him to drop it. They can talk about it later.
"Don't be sorry. I'm really glad you called me, John."
John’s bottom lip trembles before he pulls it between his teeth in an attempt to bite back more tears, and if Gale wasn’t so focussed on making sure he was okay, he’d already be kicking down the front door to give his dad a piece of his mind.
But that’s not what John needs right now, he knows that, and it wouldn’t solve anything.
“Oh, honey, you’re safe now, I promise,” he says gently, pressing his palm to the angry red of his cheek, feeling John lean into his touch. “You have nothing to apologize for; I’m not gonna let anything happen to you now, alright?”
John nods, shivering in the chill of the night, and Gale runs the pad of his thumb beneath one eye, brushing away the tears that have gathered there.
“Let’s get you home. We’ll figure this out tomorrow, together.”

As a frequent "ugh, fanon," person it's not that I don't like non-canonical character designs or interpretations as a concept. I love unique and creative ideas about fictional characters that are informed by canon but diverge from it in interesting ways that build upon the original vision! I almost never see this in fanon.

Ecologies of Imperialism in Algeria, by Brock Cutler, begins with an account of food poisoning in nineteenth-century French Algeria. A deep rural crisis of drought and famine in the late 1860s had reduced the amount of fuelwood coming into the city of Algiers, leading one baker to use construction debris shipped to the colony from Paris to fire his bread oven in early 1869. The lead paint on that metropolitan rubble, product of Baron Haussmann’s transformation of the French capital, became a toxic element in the bread that sickened settlers in the colony. The author [...] treats this small episode as a microcosm of the divides, the unruly circulations, and the nonhuman actants and processes that characterized the early decades of colonial rule in Algeria, which the French invaded in 1830.
These divisions and circulations include those between metropole and colony, between modern and not modern, between person and environment, between human and nonhuman, and across the colonial frontier with Tunisia. [...]
---
The first [of three major narrative veins in Cutler's study involves] [...] bread [...], the consumption of wheat grown on the Mediterranean plains of Algeria [...]. The toxic bread affair of 1869, however, was a reminder that the distance between metropole and colony was not so great. [...] The second vein examines the production of new ecosystem relations [...]. [T]he violence of decades of uneven conquest and the confiscation, appropriation, and enclosure of land and its reorientation toward regional and international [European] markets between 1830 and 1870 thoroughly destabilized rural Algerian life. This fragility turned lethal in the final years of the 1860s, when a series of environmental crises - locust plagues and drought - caused widespread famine and ultimately the deaths of up to eight hundred thousand Algerians. [...] The emptied land and cheap labor that were outcomes of the environmental crises enabled [France] to complete the capitalist transformation of rural Algeria [...]. Another outcome of the environmental crisis was an increase in the number of rural Algerians migrating to cities, where they were perceived as both a threat to public order and a reservoir of potential labor energy. [...]
[D]ivisionary logics, including the line between city and countryside and the modern gendered subject, were being performed, produced, and reproduced in the context of environmental crisis.
---
[Another] major element [in Cutler's scholarship] [...] is an exploration of the complex politics of policing French Algeria’s eastern border with Tunisia, in the era before French colonial rule began in the latter polity in 1881. [...] [T]his border, officially demarcated in 1846, was only integrated into local ecosystem relations over the course of subsequent decades. Repeated performance of sovereignty through patrols and taxation of pastoral communities that lived and worked in the frontier commons instantiated the border, but the border region remained resistant to the forms of modern statecraft, such as standardization, bureaucratization, and written transactions, that French authorities preferred. [...] [Cutler] draws on intentionally “mundane” examples to show how they were critical to the steady reproduction of a modern imperial border (p. 47). [...] [A specific] episode of transborder [dispute] [...] in 1869 [...] became a referndum within the settler community on the virtues of military rule and a reminder for that [European] community of [supposed] indigenous incompatability with modernity. [...]
[T]he various divisions illuminated by the story - between modern and not, between inside and outside, and between European and Algerian - were performances staged at various times and places, not eternal features of the society or landscape. The repetition of “divisionary logics,” in the author’s telling, were at the heart of French colonial modernity (p. 149). [...]
---
[T]horough reading of the French colonial archive, from official sources as well as memoirs, newspapers, and periodicals [...], [t]he first two narrative threads, on bread and disaster, demonstrate the significance of moments of crisis [...] in actually changing the course of history [...] [and] longer-term [...] ecological transformations. The other thread, however, examines how the mundane performance of modern sovereign power and its divisionary logics, over time, made real or even naturalized the new imperial frontier between Algeria and Tunisia. Both [...] society-wide crises or the steady performance of the mundane logics of power [...].

I have a Conspiracy Theory about the Kal'tsit boss in IS5. The fight seems like a mini-boss fight which is kind of weird because then who the fuck is the endboss if Kal'tsit is the miniboss? And given that her defeat animation in her fight looks sort of like a retreat "this isn't over, I'll be back." So, I believe that a more mechanically-complex Kal'tsit fight will be the boss for one of the endings.

The most important question for the modern office au, what is the office doing like what’s the actual job? Also why’s a kid here!
Ooo!!
To answer the first part, I’m gonna break it a lil further into two segments, the company the office is underneath, and the office itself!
For the company, I like to think it’s a chain type store that focuses on arts & crafts stuff to sell. From various paints, to fabrics, to wood crafts, the list goes on and on!
For the actual office the team works at, rn I am thinking of a regional office with teams that relate their work to stores within the region it resides in. So like all the financials / logistics / infosys / human resources / etc etc for the region they reside? Handled by the office the gang works in.
Specifically, for Siffrin & their team, I’m thinking they handle a lot of the analysis related to financial trends of products being sold. So they would handle stuff like:
Parsing through the financial data retrieved from stores to ensure no errors in data.
Staring at excel every day and questioning your life choices.
Congregating that data into pretty graphs and trends to show to others for reports every month. Pretty colors!! So much information!!
Reporting their findings every month to higher-ups in the region so they can make decisions on stuff to focus on selling.
Deal with people setting meetings for things that they literally do not handle but keep getting asked about anyway constantly. *stares directly at The King*
And perhaps even general bookkeeping work for product sales that also happen every month, for legal reasons.
So, in short, they’re kinda Product (Arts & Crafts Items) Trends Analysts? But not formally, prob general analysts that got lumped into here. And need to do that stuff cyclically? Since those trends are used in deciding what to focus on selling every month?  A bit broad, a bit detailed, but uhh yea!! Something like that.
As for the second part. Bonnie. So true. Why’s a kid here!!!
Two current thoughts, undecided:
Bonnie just Showed Up one day and they sorta hung around long enough to worm their way into the rest of the team’s everyday lives.
Nille also works in this specific regional office, same as everyone else! Probably on the same team. As such, they sometimes hang around waiting for their sister to be done working.
Regardless though, I also like to think they sneak onto the computers sometimes and block time for snacks on everyone's calendars. It is their job as snack leader, after all!
But yea, those are current thoughts! STC but those are the vibes I think!

what do i do when my logical linear mind wants to tell me it’s not here yet, it’s not real, it’s not possible, you’re doing it wrong, etc.?
i either (a) let the thoughts pass or (b) redirect my focus, and then i choose my desired end anyway. i affirm. i visualize. i imagine. i choose who i desire to be.
