Indigenous folks, ex-christians & anyone who's knowledgeable on social issues, I have two questions that have bothered me for a long while and I believe y'all might know how to answer them.
The question: I read a webcomic about community A living on an island along with another community B with different culture & beliefs from them. Community A believes that their culture & religion are the correct ones and that members of community B are dooming themselves to eternal damnation (in a religious sense) if they don't adopt the beliefs & practices of community A.
I saw someone talking about the comic in its comment section, saying that one of the characters who's a member of community B is selfish for not adopting the burial practices from community A's religion, because according to that someone, not burying their loved one like community A believes is correct is " potentially dooming their loved one to eternal damnation".
If you're indigenous, has rhetoric / talking points like this been used against your own religious / cultural practices? Could you give any concrete examples?
If you have religious trauma / are ex christian of any kind, have people used talking points like this to guilt trip, to frighten, or to shame you into obeying religious rules? (People belonging to other religions than christianity are welcome to give their perspectives as well!)

Tim I noticed a lot of indigenous patches on your jacket, are you Native?
Idk what my dad was 'cause I never knew him, but yeah my mom is (or... Was.. I guess..) Muscogee, the tribe native to the part of Alabama I'm in.
If I remember correctly she came to Alabama from Oklahoma (where a lot of Natives were displaced to in the 1800s) to "get back to her roots."
But yknow, I was separated from her in childhood (which tbh is upsettingly common for Native families) and I was raised in a very white very Catholic asylum so I'm not as connected to the culture as I'd like to be.
-Tim
#OOC: Olea speaking#this is kind of a self-indulgent headcanon but HEAR ME OUT it adds a lot to Tim's character specifically#we're talking about a character who was separated from his mom in childhood and locked up in a psych ward#suffers from chronic physical and mental illness made significantly worse by the institution that was supposed to be helping him#forced to regulate his emotions more than other people have to so he isnt misinterpreted as a threat#struggles with addiction#had to work twice as hard as anyone else in his friend group just to be given the same opportunities#a much more common experience inside BIPOC communities#and he clearly has ties to the land (especially the park) nobody else has#you know how in season 2 Alex starts yapping to Jay about how the park is cursed?#maybe he was right#maybe that *thing* has been here for hundreds of years#and nobody was ever able to settle the land so eventually the Department of Conservation turned it into a state park#and Tim isnt some random “patient zero”#but he has ancestral ties to the land and was more receptive/at risk to Operator Sickness (but was also more resistant to it long term)#JUST SAYIN 👀#im half Katu and I desire my comfort character to be a halfie with me we need more non-white rep in mh#ask.txt#marble hornets#mh#tim wright#afterlife au#slenderverse#Native!Tim

have I somehow ruined myself for perfectly average movies? I watched both Robots (2023) and The Deer King (2021) and both of them were fine---Deer King was better, but suffered from trying to jam too much into a single film; Robots should have been more black-humored, delighting in its lazy sociopaths and their vaguely squalid world. But that's it, that's all they were---fine. Just fine.
Does this mean I have to watch exclusively Films now? I can't get into a movie unless it's black and white, or two hours of characters speaking sideways and having neuroses at each other?
#I thought the deer king's hints of a broader bigger world were very effective though; some were devastatingly beautiful#(there's a scene where one of the narrators is talking about the tension between the imperial zolians#and the native aquafaese people; and on screen you're watching a mob of native aquafaese agitate their zolian guards#you cut to a young aquafa woman running hand in hand with one of the guards; they run to a river gorge and there's no escape#......and then you cut back to the main adventuring group; who are walking their horses past the river#you see the couple's blood-stained clothes caught on a branch in the river. nothing more is said.)#in that respect the movie was lovely; I loved its worldbuilding I loved the hints of more.#but it wasn't well-structured and I got the sense it was trying to be miyazaki without knowing quite how to pull it off#I also loved that science saved the day! natural resistance and cultivating antibodies for vaccination. love that nonsense.#a proscenium for our dreams

I get why potatoes are popularly associated with Ireland and to a lesser extent other parts of Europe, but it's a bit messed up that most people will think potatoes were originally cultivated in Ireland and not ancient Peru and Bolivia like they actually are
#the humble potato. blessed be to a common starch i can actually eat#food#food history#don't quote me on this but I'm p sure one of the contributing factors of the Irish potato famine was bc taters AREN'T native to Eire#and when this foreign crop replaced native staples it was less resistant to the diseases of Ireland#i don't remember off the top of my head if potato blight originated in Ireland itself or was imported with the potatoes#but the fact that Ireland no longer had native crops for the people to eat was a major factor#unless you were lucky enough to live on the Irish coasts and harvest seaweed

Dance as a form of resistance shared by indigenous peoples. I love this mashup ✊🏽
I love this young man, I love his defiant war dance, I love his fearlessness, dancing in his protective kuffiya and Palestine around his waist, with his slingshot against occupation military fire and snipers.
Palestinians knows love and stand courageously for the love of life. Nothing could break it or their power to stand tall in the face of injustice.
This is from the peaceful Great March of Return 2018 by civil society. When Israel occupation forces surrounded peaceful protesters in Gaza, opened fire and massacred at least 150 Palestinians.

Watching someone play afop and im so. Oh my god. Oh my GOD. It's literally just a fucking showcase of all the Exact type of shit that has been happening to indigenous people and people of color have been dealing with for Centuries at the hands of white supremacy and imperialism. Like its literally just Showing all that Shit from the perspective of a Na'vi in universe. So it "demonizes" the RDA accordingly. And uet so many fucking reviewers are joshing on it and calling it Boring and Slow and Uninspired and that it makes human's 'cartoonishly evil' LIKE YOU PEOPLE HAVENT LOOKED AT A SINGLE FUCKING CURRENT EVENT IN YOUR LIVES. Oh my god im so mad at all these fucking reviewers now. The fucking AUDACITY to look at something this fucking Honest about the cruelty humans are capable of, while living during the fucking day and age with all this Knowledge we have at our fingertips -- the fucking audacity to look at this game and what the character goes through and not being able to muster up ANY other fucking emotion besides "ubisoft never was great at story anyway so idc lol" fuck you fuck you fuck you fuck you. Like actually. You can't even fucking ATTEMPT to connect to this story emotionally? Not even a fucking Smidge? Jesus fucking christ people need everything to be spoon fed to them these days. God forbid a piece of media actually ask you to meet it in the middle for once.
#horse.txt#vent //#im mad lol. the farther i get into the story the more mad i get#oh oh the humans putting the Na'vi in cages is a bit extreme? a bit unrealistic??#what the fuck has been going on US borders for the past two decades then.#oh oh the pollution of the land and the water to hurt resistance efforts and native populations is so cartoonishly evil!!#HUMANS WOULD NEEEEVER DO SOMETHING SO DIABOLICAL 😱😱😱#get fucking real. i am so tired of people looking down on Avatar when it's one of the first pieces of mainstream media that ive Ever seen#cover these topics in a fictional lense with So candidly. and nobody wants to fucking take it seriously because it makes them Uncomfortable#to see humans be the fucking badguys#iTS NOT EVEN ABOUT /ALL/ HUMANS THE REAL VILLIAN IS THE FUCKING RDA! ITS CAPITALISM!!!!!#THATS THE FUCKING POINT!!! but noooo people are so fucking sensitive they cant see it as anything but 'misanthropic'#like all of the humans in the resistance arent RIGHT FUCKING THERE for one. and for two ACKNOWLEDGING HUMANITIES FLAWS ISNT MISANTHROPIC#humans have flaws!!! we are capable of great cruelty just as much as we are great kindness!!!#if simply acknowledging and exploring that fact in stories is 'misanthropic' and depresses you then thats on YOU.#grow some thicker skin or something dude idk lol

Acorn Anne visits some Mulberry trees that are in need of healing. please send a small offering of dry, warm air through your closest fairy ring and Acorn Anne will direct it to the leaves of both trees. thank you for your cooperation 🫡
#ok i learned the fungus on my trees is not life threatening and is worse in wet summers#apparently stronger and healthier trees are more resistant to it too#which if the rest of the neighborhood is anything to go by i think my trees are a bit healthier#that is good to see#they need a good trim though#anyway send dry air it might rain this week which i do love bc we always need rain in texas#but if you send the dry air in the fairy ring acorn anne can reserve it for next summer and maybe they can be healthier then#since its almost autumn rn anyway#actually send me some spoons through the ring too bc i need to trim their branches and rake the fungus leaves up#i dont plan on raking the normal autumn leaves but apparently keeping the fungus leaves off the ground can help#thank you in advance for any contributions you make ok love you byeeee#my clown#acorn anne syrup#clownblr#clownin around#clown shenanigans#clown doll#porcelain clown doll#PS if you send dry air through the portals i will also have Acorn Anne send you back any mulberries we happen to get if any#i have NO clue if these trees will produce fruit lmao i have no experience with mulberry trees at all#even though apparently these are native to my area#seems like in the 60s they still planted native trees instead of *clenches fist* bradford pears#unreality

hello doctor fiddles. i am aware you are a man of the Appalachia, as a Virginia prime creature, i would like to know ur thoughts on the Great Dismal Swamp
the Great Dismal Swamp is my best friend <3
#answered#names and locations that belong in a fromsoft game#fun fact did you know the great dismal swamp was the site of one of the united states' largest cluster of communities#of escaped and emancipated slaves as well as indigenous americans escaping forced displacement#development + gentrification pushed them out after the american civil war unfortunately#but it's still an important place in anarchist history and in american bipoc resistance movements#also the native population of american alligators that live in the great dismal swamp sadly went extinct but you still have populations#of gators from north carolina that migrate into the swamp#and its so awesome
