Do fish-like/mermaid atlanteans exist in JL remix? (I'm asking because I'm a Lori Lemaris Liker, it's interating that she has 'passed' as human before and she and Clark are cute as a 'dated a little in college, are now pals' thing and I think It'd be neat in the 'remixverse)
Yes! I've personally long ago reimagined Atlanteans as looking more monstrously-fish like for my designs of Mera and her twin Hila (though I've made Hila way more butch'ed out now):
Tumblr media
I like the idea of Arthur looking visibly mixed as someone more human-passing in Atlantean culture (though now that I'm free from the constraints of a school assignment, I'd make Atlanteans more fishy). I don't know how controversial it is to imagine Lori as a type of Atlantean, but I think that makes sense for now.

Twitter and Tumblr about completely changing Ariel's ethnia and race in the live action adaptation : "die mad, fiction is fiction, and her origins don't matter in the storyline anyway, who cares where Ariel is from as long as she sings ? Anyone arguing is a racist because life is literally black and white and so are opinions on adaptations, color washing doesn't exist you're just a bigot"
Twitter and Tumblr now that Disney casted an actress who is more native Hawaiian than they ever will be but is not "dark enough" for playing Nani therefore "not a real Hawaiian and white washing" despite she is not white

suggestion for if you pick up a language course: songs!
find a song you like the sound and story/premise of, then learn how to sing a few lines from it! it's wonderfully fun to learn, and can be a bit more forgiving with pronunciation since singing distorts words artistically and intentionally. it's also a great way to find a sense of pride, since it's a pre-determined quantity that you can proud of making progress on! plus, it lets you explore a new range of music you might not have tried out beforehand
I've changed my mind I'm learning Swedish so I can sing Caramelldansen.

i've never understood cinema sins-type people who point out plot holes in movies because, even as a little girl, i was such a massive linguistics nerd that i headcanoned the reason ariel couldn't write a note to eric was something like "the mermaid language is pretty much phonetically identical to english, but with a lettering system that's incomprehensible to humans"

If you were chosen to adapt your own movie version of "Peter Pan", what would your vision of the classic story look like?
I feel like I wouldn't, personally.Peter Pan isn't really like up high on the list of classic stories that I like and actually, I'm not THAT familiar with the original story. I'm actually not even sure I was allowed to watch the old Disney Peter Pan (or at least watch it very often) when I was a kid, because I didn't remember the "Indians" scene for years, so I think when & if I watched it, my family made sure I didn't see it. The fictional tribe named that Tigerlily is allegedly from is also named after a slur for Black children so. Yeah.
I'm just not very interested in it & it leaves a bad taste in my mouth because of the racism. But I guess if I WERE to make something of my own, I feel like I'd do a more realistic, historical (fantasy? Maybe??) version of it, because I like history & just from what I've seen, the magic aspect of it has always been covered, so that's the spin I'd put on it.
Like maybe Peter is actually an imaginary friend of Wendy, they're an English family who go to North America (& this is actually Neverland), & half of the "magic" involved is Wendy's overactive imagination. I'd sprinkle in some themes about colonialism & infantilization of Native people & our colonizers seeing us as needing to be "Wards" of their kingdoms (tying this into the "never grow up" thing), how the adults in Wendy's life have effected her preconceptions of North America & adulthood, maybe themes about ageism towards children. Wendy befriends "Tiger Lily". I think I'd end it with revealing Peter is Wendy's friend who died as a child & him being her imaginary friend was a way of coping (& I'd do this just to somewhat pay homage to the author of Peter Pan's inspiration for the character) & so him going away shows she's moved on, & neverland becomes more realistic & less fantastical (but not less beautiful or wonderous) by the end, & Wendy matures as a person.
I guess. Fvgvfcv idk

Did anyone watch the Peter Pan remake? Personally, the story was never nostalgic nor interesting to me, whether animated or live action. Also, the highlight from the original film was when Wendy got jumped by the mermaids, and she almost put the fear of Poseidon in them... I doubt they remade this scene though 😂

Disney Princesses singing in their Native Languages (part 3)
Part #1
Part #2
Further info about my choices for the languages in this video under the cut
Tiana
In the bilingual city of New Orleans, where English and Cajun French had been coexisting for a long time, I would expect Tiana to speak both natively. I used the Canadian dub for French, not the one from France.
English Tiana: Anika Noni Rose French Tiana: Nancy Fortin
Anastasia
The story is about Tsar Nicholas II’s (then) lost daughter Anastasia. And since Disney acquired Fox years ago, that’s good enough for me to count Anastasia as a Disney princess. Typical me, yeah
Russian Anastasia: Masha Kats | Ма́ша Кац
Ariel
According to a book from the official Disney Princess franchise, “A Treasury of Enchanting Tales” (2019), the story takes place in the Mediterranean Sea in the 17th century.
Tumblr media
Moreover, Disney also confirmed that Eric's castle is located in Italy. Despite this though, since Triton is a god from the Greek pantheon (but not present in the Roman one), Greek seems like the logic choice to me. Please, note that this video is about Disney’s movies, not the stories behind them. Yes, the tale is originally Danish, but just like Elsa is not Danish, or Tiana is not German, Disney’s Little Mermaid is not Danish either. Please, understand that this is how folk tales work: they are told and re-told countless times, changing and gaining new traits as they go. Yes, this story comes originally from a Danish tale, and no one will ever take that away from The Little Mermaid
Greek Ariel: Ánna Róssi | Άννα Ρόσση (1998 re-dub)
Aurora
According to a book from the official Disney Princess franchise, “A Treasury of Enchanting Tales” (2019), the story takes place in a generic "Western Europe" in the 14th century. Looking closely at the provided map, it seems to me the place falls somewhere in Northern France or maybe in Wallonia (French-speaking part of Belgium).
Tumblr media
French Aurora: Danielle Licari (1981 re-dub)
Elsa
Anna and Elsa are daughters of a Norwegian king and a Sámi queen, as is shown in Frozen 2. It is also shown they have no trouble understanding the meaning of “All is Found”, a traditional Northuldra lullaby, which is certainly sung in Sámi. This means that Anna and Elsa are bilingual Norwegian-Sámi native speakers.
Norwegian Elsa: Lisa Stokke Sámi Elsa: Marianne Pentha
