Okay okay, so I technically have two Nigerian Characters
One is Biracial
The other is the son of two immigrants
The story has a lot to do with Identity and Pdychology (The MC, the biracial one, is recovering from being a living weapon)
And the son of the immigrants, a Retired Therapist, becomes a Surrogate father figure to him
With that outline, I've Semi-finalized the Therapist's name
(The MC is more complicated bc he technically has 4 names, but I'll get to that later if you're interested, I really don't want to bother you, lol)
Idk though
Therapist's current name that I'm kinda attached to is Lucian Adeye
I love the name, btw. Lucian Adeye. A lot of Nigerian kids have english names and traditional middle/last names.
Nigerians often know about foreign terms and facts -typically American and British- and the fact that both characters have international roots, is perfect. Don't let other character explain every little detail to them; they will understand unless it's entirely new information necessary to the plot.
Though, Nigerians are often cynical and can be really judgey. We often criticize other cultures, though not in a stereotypically or bias way. More like we judge you guy's actions, concepts or what you normally do??? Like parenting or politics. Assuming your American, of course.
Despite our broad knowledge, we are kind of traditional and religious, since christianity and islam are dominant. They don't have to be like excessively religious. Maybe they say 'Jesus Christ!' when they have been jumped scared or say a quick prayer before doing something big. That sort of stuff. Family is everything; even in modern settings, extended families are involved. Respect for elders is also a big thing. There's a good chance that your characters may be the odd one out in their friend group lol.
We have bold, expressive and often dramatic ways of speaking. If your character(s) are confident, they might be like this in public. But a lot of Nigerian teens (assuming they are teens or young adults) tend to be different when they are at home and when in public. They are more like themselves among family but less among friends. Adults tend to speak their native language or Pidgin english when at home and more formally when in public or in your case, with his clients.
We like to show our style as well. Since your characters have international roots, you could do this in appearance rather than clothing style. Is the biracial one a girl? If so, let her have big hair, either worn naturally or in big cornrows or braids. For Lucian, he could have a fresh cut or a neat afro puff. Let him show his Nigerian-ness, even in a formal setting.
Also, FOOD. FOOD IS EVERYTHING. Jollof rice, puff-puff, amala, pounded yam. I will KILL for a scene when a Nigerian character from a foreign setting eats their traditional food.
I honestly loved venting like this and want to thank you for being so considerate enough to ask me this. You can ask as many questions as you like. My askbox needs to be fed!!!

One thing that Black people know how to do is cook. Over the years, the look of the culinary industry has drastically changed. From the traditional eating standards to Instagram chefs, the chefs in the aprons share one thing in common: being the best at what they do. For National Cooking Day on Sept. 25, Black Enterprise highlights five chefs killing the game in their respective lanes.
According to National Today, National Cooking Day was set up to encourage and inspire food lovers to try something new and explore the true beauty of the kitchen. From finger-licking good barbecue to fine-dining sous chefs, these five culinary artists have created a lane of their own.
Rodney Scott – South Carolina 
Scott is known to make your mouth water with his traditional barbecue recipes and is often referred to as one of the U.S.’s master pit masters; the chef and business owner has made his mark as one of the industry’s favorites. His popular restaurant, Rodney Scott’s Whole Hog BBQ, is a staple in the Charleston community, serving fried chicken, pit-cooked chicken, mac and cheese, and, oh yeah, whole pigs.
He gives his feedback to those coming up behind him as a judge on Food Network’s BBQ Brawl.
Ayo Adeyemi – London
Chef Adeyemi has brought West Africa to the U.K. As head chef of London’s Michelin-star restaurant, Akoko, Adeyemi has changed how traditional African food is celebrated.
“When I was growing up in the industry as a young chef, restaurants like this weren’t around,” Adeyemi said, according to SCMP. “So I was forced to have to learn the modern British culture, the modern Asian culture, the modern French culture.”
Under the chef’s leadership, the menu now hosts an interesting take on jollof rice, served with BBQ, native blue lobster, and smoked goat with mustard seeds.
Nyesha Arrington – California
Her multiracial upbringing has made her keen sense of taste a powerful force in the industry. Arrington, who grew up with a Korean and Black background, trained with top cooks to pick up a spatula and has served as the head chef at Wilshire in Santa Monica, California. Arrington prides herself on concurring many food lanes, including “that path of France and nouvelle cuisine,” she told The New York Times, but she says the main thing she loves is finding the common denominator in food.
While she has made appearances in the Los Angeles Times and GQ, she currently stars as a judge on the cooking competition show Next Level Chef.
Jerrelle Guy – Florida
If you have a sweet tooth, make sure you’re following Jerrelle Guy. Her mouth-watering treats come with a unique spin, ranging from black bean brownies to brown sugar strawberry jalapeno lime pie. Her different recipes have given her a reputation to be proud of, catching the eye of fellow Black girl chefs like Carla Hall, and she was even nominated for a prestigious James Beard Award.

Subtle Life in London
One month into this semester-long journey, the memories and stresses I have gathered have piled up to last a lifetime. The experiences I’ve undergone would’ve been unfathomable to Ugonna a semester ago. The freedom I’ve had during this journey has crafted a lifestyle that I want and enjoy living. Along with the friendships I’ve made and the scenery I’ve gazed upon, every day feels more and more like a story. My friends and I often jokingly remark after every expedition a “successful side-quest,” meaning that we find ourselves doing activities or in new locations spontaneously on a whim. Whether it’s running for the last train ride to rural England or planning a weekend trip a day before the flight, our side-quests never fail to bring me joy. Some of them even come with unexpected challenges, like navigating unfamiliar bus routes or struggling to communicate with locals in their native tongue in a foreign country. Still, we always walk away from them with stories to tell and a sense of accomplishment.
Many people gall on the significant things of studying abroad. Traveling the world, trying expensive delicacies, and exploring all the tourist sites. While all these things are a part of the experience, there’s subtle happiness in the little things, stories outside the “main quest.” One of those moments has been my friends' hospitality and kindness. London is quite expensive, and grocery shopping prices can add up quickly. This has led us to cook and share food throughout the day. We often call each other “big-back” to highlight how much we eat together, but we tell ourselves it’s a necessity. Imagine my surprise when one of my friends woke me up from my sleep at 9 a.m. to ask if I had any eggs to cook for breakfast. I laughed as I donated my food to my famished friend, only to find myself asking the same friend later for bread to eat with my eggs—a cycle of sharing. We’ve also had weekly potlucks, a cultural-sharing experience where we cooked food from our native countries. After calling my mom to familiarize myself with the recipe, we came together to make Jollof rice, beef stew, and fufu for all of us to enjoy. The kitchen, often chaotic and filled with laughter, has become a place where we bond the most.

Beyond food, another subtle joy has been unwinding with my friends through late-night gaming sessions. After long days of lectures and navigating the bustling streets of London, we often gather in someone’s dorm room, controllers in hand, ready to jump into a world far removed from our academic stresses. Whether it’s an intense FIFA match where bragging rights are on the line or teaming up for a chaotic round of Brawlhalla, these gaming sessions have become our way to decompress. The laughter that erupts when someone makes a ridiculous play, the friendly trash talk, and the shared frustration of a last-second loss all create moments that feel just as valuable as our grander adventures. It’s in these quiet, digital battlegrounds that we’ve strengthened our friendships, proving that sometimes, the best memories don’t come from traveling across the world but from simply being together.

My mother and J Florid went to a trade fair today and I couldn't go because it turns out being on blood thinners at the same time as your period while you have PCOS is a recipe for being in hell for literally a week straight.
I would have cried over being too ill for a planned outing due to some totally unforseen illness just gradually worsening until the day of I have to admit to myself that I will end up in the hospital if I go out, and then that same scenario happening literally every single time I planned anything this entire year, but I already exhausted the next like 6 months worth of tears because J Verdant accidentally spilled my curry sauce when I got out of the hospital last week and hadn't eaten all day. It wasn't his fault but I literally got into the foetal position and sobbed.
I don't think I have enough blood left in my body right now for my brain to conjure complex emotions. That's not a joke.
Something that is funny, or well, something, is that one of the things J Florid brought back from this trade fair is boil in a bag adjacent jollof rice and don't know whether it's the blood loss but this foodstuff is breaking my brain. It's so odd it literally distracted me from despairing.
I know it was manufactured in Nigeria not just by a Nigerian (despite the utterly bizzare name chumbys) because of the janky packaging. At first glance it's similar to something like uncle Ben's rice and then the confusion starts.
The entirely superfluous word "native" in the quick description "native jollof rice mix (with palm oil) [premium ready to cook meal]" is bigger than the words "jollof rice mix", inarguably the most important words on the bag apart from the logo.
Other things at least if not more prominent than the words jollof rice mix:
The words "(with palm oil)"
The words unseal, cook, enjoy! at the top of the bag.
The sticker awkwardly placed in the top corner saying "ready in 15 minutes with a Ltr [sic] of water" which I would dismiss as entirely unnecessary (because it's not even in all versions of the packaging) but it is the only place on the packaging that tells you how much water to add.
The words 7in1 that apparently refer to the non rice ingredients in the bag but high key make this product sounds like it has 6 other functions apart from being food that I'm afraid to ask about.
The ingredients list + allergen information under the words 7in1 which is at the front of the bag for some reason and doesn't elaborate on what the seasoning is.
The chilli meter representing the spiciness of the food (2 out of 3, average spiciness for reference).
The two chillies that are awkwardly photoshopped forwarding over the serving suggestions at a much higher resolution presumably to show that it's 2 out of 3 chillies spicy even though the chilli meter already shows that information.

The back of the bag is more jankiness.
The instructions saying add as much water as desired next to nutrition information that has numbers accurate to 2 decimal places for quantities in grammes something even I a kitchen scales greatest Stan think is not an accuracy level that's necessary.
While talking of nutrition information is formatted like the nutrition information stickers on Japanese food I buy that is hastily translated and then pasted into the packaging over the original, nicely formatted Japanese text, even though the nutrition information in this rice was definitely originally written in English and designed as an integral part of the packaging.
And just to sneak in some nitpicks, calling food raw materials makes me feel like there's crude oil in here or something, the heading about contact info is formatted to look like part of the instructions, and there's a recycling symbol even though this bag isn't recyclable.

If not that I know noone would want to pay me + I am too disabled I'd be making big big money fixing this sort of jankiness.
If this rice actually tastes good I will be gobsmacked. It will have brought me actual joy.
