Acadian Day (LA)
While this day is to celebrate the resilience, contribution, and culture of Acadians, it's also Native American Heritage Day, so I'd also like to celebrate and thank the Wabanaki Confederacy, specifically the Mi'kmaq, Penobscot, and Wolastoqey Nations.
Without the Mi'kmaq Nation accepting the French colonizers onto their land and extending a hand of peace and teaching, the French would not have easily survived, if at all.
Thanks to the bravery and resistance of the Penobscot and Wolastoqey Nations, some of the Acadians were able to evade capture, deportation, and death. If not for them, there would have been nothing for the returning Acadians to come home to.
Thanks to all of them, the Acadians were able to settle deep roots that would resound through time.
Wela'lin, Mi'kmaq Nation.
Woliwoni, Penobscot Nation.
Woliwon, Wolastoqey Nation.
We owe more than we could ever repay to you.

For Native American Heritage Day: A Finding Aid to the Corresponding Section of Travalance
The day after Thanksgiving is always Native American Heritage Day, a day, I guess, when things are even more Native American Heritagey than they are during Native American Heritage Month, which is all of November. Since I’ve just increased the size of the Native American section of Travalanche by about 25% to nearly 120 posts, I thought I’d observe the day by creating this finding aid to help you…

anyways!!! in honor of native american heritage day being tomorrow!!! remember that blood quantum is a colonial construct and most (if not all) indigenous communities were not at all concerned with it prior to colonialism and, honestly, many still aren’t concerned with it/don’t recognize it as being valid!! you are allowed to reclaim your heritage and celebrate and appreciate and partake in the culture of your ancestors no matter how far back you trace your indigenous roots, just always be sure to do it respectfully, and to be mindful of other indigenous people and to listen to them and not to speak over them/drown them out!!! if another indigenous person checks you for doing something disrespectful or doing/saying something incorrectly, that is not a personal attack!! that is a learning opportunity!! use it to grow & be better so that you can better honor your heritage!!!

TODAY IS THE DAY. TODAY IS THE DAY I HAVE BEEN WAITING FOR THIS WHOLE YEAR AND NOVEMBER.
FOR ALL OF YOU THAT DONT KNOW IT.
I AM Multi Racial and One of Races that I am have been exploring this month. Is My NATIVE AMERICAN Side of the Family.
For i am part of 1 of the Greatest Tribes that ever lived. Not to belittle my fellow Native American Brethen out there.
I am part of The Seminole Tribe. Originally they originated from Florida and They Were a Very Mighty Tribe For They were the only Tribe in America 🇺🇸 that was UNCONQUERED BY THE WHITE OPPRESSION.
During the time of Slavery and Pillaging the land of all of its natural resources for their own greedy needs.
Runaway Slaves needed shelter from the White Men and they found it.
Here in the Seminole Tribe Terrotity. They found a way to call this place Home for the time being. As War raged on in America for all of the other Native American tribes who were either killed or driven from their Homelands and sent to INDIAN RESERVATIONS AS THE WHITE MEN CALLED IT.
MOST WERE ALL PROMISED TREATYS ONLY TO BE REMOVED AND LIED TOO AND DRIVEN AWAY AGAIN.
The Seminoles fought back like all the others. But their Numbers grew as more Runaway Slaves came in and bonds and families were made between the 2 groups over time.
THE WHITE MAN'S OPPRESSION WAS NO MATCH FOR THEM.
AND TILL THIS VERY DAY. MY PEOPLE, THE SEMINOLES STILL REMAIN UNCONQUERED.
Today I implore you to LEARN, EDUCATE, READ ABOUT THE HISTORY OF THE SEMINOLE TRIBE AND ALL THE OTHERS.
ALL OF THEIR LANDS.
ALL OF THEIR HOMES.
ALL OF THEIR CULTURES.
YOU ARE STANDING ON IT.
THIS IS OUR LAND AND YOU LIVE HERE BECAUSE OF US.
FOR TODAY IS THE BEST DAY OF NOVEMBER FOR #NativeAmericanHeritageMonth
THIS IS
#NativeAmericanHeritageDay .
HAPPY NATIVE AMERICAN HERITAGE DAY TO ALL OF MY FELLOW NATIVE AMERICANS OUT THERE.
WE EXIST
WE RESIST
WE RISE 🪶🤎✊🏾🏞🌅🐎🦅

Native American Heritage Day
National Native American Heritage Day is observed on November 29, a day after Thanksgiving. American Indians are accorded special honor on this day, and their rich cultures, accomplishments, contributions, and heritage are celebrated. The history of America begins with Native Americans, and the bald eagle on the U.S. shield is an Iroquois symbol. On this day, we can enjoy displays of their cultural fashion and unique recipes and speak out against the grave injustices they have experienced.
History of Native American Heritage Day
Dr. Arthur C. Parker of the Seneca nation first protested for National Native American Heritage Day between 1912 and 1915. At first, he was fighting for an “American Indian Day” to be recognized within the Boy Scouts of America. In 1990, President George H. W. Bush signed into law the legislation introduced by Congressman Joe Baca, to designate the day after Thanksgiving as American Indian Heritage Day. The law was established on November 28 as a day to pay respects to the Native Americans for their numerous contributions to the United States. The American Indian Heritage Day was supported by the National Indian Gaming Association (NIGA) and 184 federally recognized tribes.
The Native American Heritage Day encourages Americans of all backgrounds to appreciate the indigenous cultures appropriately, with ceremonies and activities. Schools are also encouraged to enhance their students’ awareness of Native Americans by providing classroom activities focused on their history, contributions, and achievements.
The United States House of Representatives initially passed the Native American Heritage Day Act of 2009, with technical adjustments made by a collective consent in the United States Senate. The House of Representatives unanimously voted to pass the legislation again, including the Senate’s adjustments. The legislation was then signed into public law by President Barack Obama on October 30, 2009.
Native American Heritage Day and Month is a huge platform for Indigenous people to educate society about their communities. On this day, more than ever, they lead the discourse on culture, celebrate their heritage by donning traditional footwear (“rocking the moccasin”), and shed some light on the diverse tribal communities.
