national personifications are funny as a concept

like you have a polity, with a bunch of people in it, and you try to sum them up in an individual humanoid entity

and you see, they're depicted either as purely perfect or as a set of national stereotypes

obviously the first characterization is implausible and boring as fuck, but the thing with the second characterization is that groups cant be monolithic, and stereotypes of the same group can and often are contradictory, which would reasonably suggest that a personification of them would be similarly inconsistent and paradoxical

There are two things in canon that I find interesting and I think they may even be connected.

1: America doesn’t seem to react as badly as other personfications to events such as wars, economic recessions, or political unrest. While he does look a bit shaky and unwell in the panels portraying the Great Depression, for example, he isn’t anywhere near to the levels of England or Spain, who are shown severly ill and bedridden due to similar events. Moreover, more recent strips show America being complely unaffected, health-wise, from civil unrest.

2: America has been shown being completely blindsided by his government (without realizing there was something amiss) twice in canon. One time was when he got sent to Japan and had no idea of the real aim of the expedition, the other, during the Roosvelt incident.

Why am I saying that I think the two may be connected? It’s because I think they may be two faces of the same coin – that is, compared to other personifications, America is more disconnected from his people and government, he doesn’t feel them as strongly as other personifications do. I almost get the impression that Alfred steers closer to representing the ideal of America rather than the reality of it. And in turn, he has a strong individuality/sense of self that is less affected by his nature as a personification.

This may be why he tends to be a bit too optimistic and guillible when it comes to the state of his nation, too. He knows he’s supposed to feel it if there’s something truly wrong, so, as long as he’s feeling fine, he believes the situation not to be so drastic.

I may be overthinking things, of course. However, with American culture being known also for the strong individualism it professes, I can’t help but find this quite fitting.

Do you consider the 2Ps to be insane or no?

no- my 2ps are more rough but theyre more human and have more moral alignment issues cause i can play with their characters more than the 1ps who I usually have to keep a modicum of canon or incur the constant stream of why is this different questions but I never liked villain 2ps, i did it when I was young for like a little bit but quickly fell away from it cause well.

You tell me why people might be uncomfortable when people make the 2ps often more ethnically diverse/POC coded but also insane, cannibals, villains or just outcasted by society/their 1p. What kind of energy might that give off?

Yeah no, theyre not insane and theyre not villains, in my canon theyre just other personfications. who says there cant be more than one representative for nations as big as say the US?

Nation personifications don't reflect their government; rather, they reflect their people. The masses, so to say.

Since personifications were formed through the unification of people and the creation of communities with shared cultures, every aspect of their personality is representative of something from their people. It may be their physical appearance, their sense of fashion. It may be the way they handle unexpected situations. It may also be something less tangible, such as ideals and religious beliefs.

All the same, due to this, the personifications will not necessarily be amenable to the actions that their government takes. Some governments are more representative of their people's will than others; as such, some personifications are in better standing with their government than others. The more in tune a government is with the general public, the more similar they are with their personification, and the less disagreements there are between the two.

This is not to say that the personifications only take after most of their population, of course. Personifications are also highly affected by their upbringing, whether reared by humans, by one of their kind, or both. Upbringing may result in a personification holding beliefs contrary to their people's, or holding beliefs that do not belong to the majority. But there will always be a connection between a personfication and their people's culture, whether or not anyone realises the origins of certain characteristics.

In cases where a nation is divided - split into two different sides regarding a single matter, such as civil wars, referendums, elections, or anything else - their personication is always, always, in great pain. A divided nation is a vulnerable one, and a vulnerable nation results in an unhealthy personification.

All of these is why nation personifications oftentimes aren't treated as well as might be expected. One common characteristic among them is their uncompromising nature. There is no else who can exert the will of their people upon their government more than them, and it is a severe dereliction of their duty as the human personifications of everything that constitutes their nations to neglect doing so. Such characteristic may be tamed, but not by the personifications themselves. It goes against their very nature to do so - to restrain themselves from fulfilling, or at least attempting to fulfill, their people's desires. But their governments?

Their governments can and have done so.

When a government has had enough of their personification's unruliness and incompliance with orders, they might look for a way to make said personification do so, rather than find common ground between them and compromise. The government would do everything in their power to make the personification bend their knee, whether by force or by persuasion. A personification may be broken by such an ordeal, especially if the former method is applied. They will lose touch with their people, unconsciously detaching themselves from their connection, though never fully breaking the link.

Sometimes, instead of succumbing to their government's control, a personification may grow even more tenacious in their resolutions. And when a government has tried and failed to subdue said personification, they may eventually resort to the highest order of punishment possible.

Exile.

The very essence of nation personifications entails a physical, mental, and emotional connection to the nation they personify. Their territory's destruction is the destruction of their soul, the agony of their people is their own, and every major loss resonates deep within their very being. Losing that physical connection with their territory will absolutely destroy a personification. It will not kill them - not for centuries on end, at least - but it is one of the greatest sufferings that a personification may endure, right alongside mass slaughter of their people. So in the end, when a personification pushes their government too far, they often end up capitulating instead.

There are other situations, of course, in which a personification may manage to 'win' against their government. A personification will not be so recalcitrant if there is no specific reason for them to be so, and as such, having the backing of their people is essential for a personification.

Yes, a personification represents the people's beliefs, the people's values, the people's desires and needs. Even then, the people of a nation do not always speak up against their government. They do not always express their wishes. But when the personification is in accordance with their people, when they both strive towards the same goal, they are may be able to bring about whichever change they wish for.

An example would be being on the verge of an important decision in the government, wherein the people want something that the government seems reluctant to give. In that scenario, the personification will be on their people's side (unless, of course, they're already under their government's control), and it would be cause for tension between the personification and their government if the difference in their wants is too big to be negotiated. If the people's voices grow louder and more demanding, pressuring their government, and the government ends up surrendering to what the people want, then it may be said that the personification has won, for their people's victory is theirs too.  Revolutions wherein the people are rebelling against the government may be another example of this.

This is why sometimes, a government may attempt to subdue a personification before they've even done anything untoward, knowing that the personification would be sympathetic to the masses. The government will believe that because the personification is not in favour of their decisions, they may betray the government and spill important information to the people, in order to further their cause.

Nation personifications are not always safe with their government. It always depends on how adept a personification is in dealing with their government. Different personifications deal with their respective governments differently - it is one of the major things that set them apart. Barring cultural, topographic, and other differences between nations, the personifications are all different in how they handle their governments. A government may be going directly against their people's wishes, but their personification is in good standing with them. A government may be in direct accord with their people, but they are in conflict with their personification.

Older personifications are wiser about such matters. Along the centuries, they've accumulated experience in dealing with various governments. They will know how to appear unaffected, even if their government is in shambles, without giving any hint as to what thoughts and emotions lie underneath their facades. It's a lesson learned the hard way, after experiencing the pain of exile. They will also know how to best deal with civil unrest, after having suffered through the pain of perhaps a civil war or two, and being intimately familiar with the pain of feeling split in half for months or years on end.

To simplify:

1.) While personifications may develop personal values and desires through interaction with fellow personifications, the foundation of their being always lies within the nation they personify, and that they change alongside the ever-shifting nature of humans.

2.) Nation personifications are not synonymous with their government or their government's actions. Conflict may arise between personifications and their governments, with resolutions that vary depending on the situation.

Scotland:

Rumour: He has an official character design.

Reality: He doesn’t have an official character design, albeit making a canon appearance. Scotland appears off-screen in “The Battle for America.”

Something often confused among fans is that these unspecified character designs are Scotland, Wales, and Northern Ireland when no such confirmation was given. These sketches remain as undesigned characters and are not the three brothers.

However, the top one matches a previous sketch of Himaruya’s, where he gave a rough drawing of what he believed Scotland would look like. Thus, it’s presumed that this may be Scotland and the other two UK siblings. But, unless confirmed, they remain as unidentified nations.

Himaruya has gone on the record to say that the UK brothers will appear in World Stars, as he did with Czechia and Slovakia who have already made their formal appearances. Although, his initial intention was to draw the brothers first.

Unidentified African nations:

As touched on before, there is what seems to be a female African nation in volume six that visits Seychelles. Others have concluded that this nation is Madagascar. This is because of a scene where Seychelles refers to Madagascar in the third person and that it is a common “speech quirk” to refer to someone like this in Japanese. While this may be the case, and as Hetarchive has also held, unless confirmed, they’re not a nation let alone Madagascar.

A second, lesser-known instance of an unidentified African nation is the pirate personification that Iceland has an interaction with.

Since it’s possible for nations to evolve into new titles—ex: Hungary originally personified a nomadic equestrian tribe and Liechtenstein, Austrian nobles—it would be interesting to see if Himaruya ever decides to do something with this. For example, the pirate personification could have survived past their old title and evolved into a modern country. (note: I use nation loosely to encompass all personfications, whereas ‘country’ is a nation that is politically recognized).

Identity

Canderous Ordo stood before the young man looked at him curiously with dark, forrest green eyes that had some old wisdom that usually came with the elders and a bone-deep weariness.

“You wished to speak with me, Janar?” Canderous asks which caused the young man to nod then offered his arm out to Canderous in an old greeting. It was still startling to see Janar so youthful, despite the decades they’ve known each other, which was why Canderous assumed he was a hybrid of sorts.

“Since my true identity is on a need-to-know basis and Mandalore the Ultimate is dead, I need to properly introduce myself in person to you and your successor.” The young man responds as Canderous clasped his arm. “Every world, even fractions such as the Jedi and Sith, has a personfication -- sometimes a few -- to represent both the world and the inhabitants, the ideals and so on. In this case, I am Mandalore.”.

“That explains why you’ve looked the same for as long as we knew each other.” Canderous remarks as he eyed the ancient being before him warily. “And you do know how ridiculous that claim is, right?.”.

“Advantages of having a culture such as ours.”  Janar stated as his form switched rapidly between several different species before settling on a human one once more. “I can appear as I want without drawing attention.”.

“He’s not lying. One of my Master’s advisors, he had been the personfication of the Jedi Crusaders.” Tarre state which caused the Janar to scowl. 

“Don’t compare to that mongrel.” Janar answered icily as he walked over to Tarre and glared at him. “Unlike that him, I wouldn’t use a child to my advantage. Or willing destroy my fellow Nations.”.

‘I....understood, Manda’yaim.”.

“Excellent, and I’m sorry, he still sets me off/.” Janar turned his attention back to Canderous. “Now, I believe we have crucial information to discuss in terms of Revan and this threat he told you of? I made the mistake of not addressing the threat last time, I will not be foolish enough this time.”.

“I see, ah, right this way then.” Canderous said as he gestured towards the makeshift meeting hall before looking at Tarre as Janar headed towards it. “Care to explain this?”.

How would Germany, Italy, America, England and Spain react if a random man explains the nations that s/o isn't just a random girl that loves you no, she is someone from an international organisation that hires cute and mentally stable girls in order to manipulate the nations because the main goal, this oragnisation wants to achieve is for national personfications to rule over themselves not humans.

Germany:

“Don’t you dare insult my S/o.”

Hearing this from a random man will make him turn a blind eye, unless this man gives him actual prove he refuses to believe anything.

Depending on how suspicious the man looks he might call the authorities, he’s a little concerned for the man.

If this man is able to give actual proof that he knows what he’s talking about Germany will demand to hear everything.

He’ll try to meet up with this man in a remote area so they can discuss everything. He’ll even bring a little note pad.

Later that night, he will try to do some snooping around on the internet, once he has all the information he can find, he’ll kinda question why he’d even bother with such a relation.

He will confront his S/o and ask them if everything is true, if they are honest with him he’ll stay in the relationship. If however they lie, he will break it off. Honesty in a relationship is very important to him!

Italy:

He probably screamed when the man popped out of nowhere, the dude is probably going to have to let him take a breather before he starts explaining everything

When the man is trying to explain everything he is extremely confused, he just be staring at the man waiting for him to stop talking.

Once he finally gets it he is shocked, he has no idea what he’s more shocked about: His S/o, the plan or the fact that he hasn’t eaten.

The man is going to be bombarded with questions, he wants to know more. He’ll ask the man to keep it simple though.

He’ll ask his S/o about it as well, he wants to know from them if that everything that the man said is true.

If they do admit to everything he will forgive them, sort of. He won’t trust his S/o for a while. 

America:

The second this man appears he is on edge, he will try to walk away think the man is one of the leaflet hander-outs (What do you even call that job XD)

He will try and show that he’s not interested by putting his hand up to the man and kindly decline a leaflet.

When the man starts to explaining stuff he will be kinda annoyed, if his S/o  is really apart of this organisation they would have told him, right?

He’ll text his S/o about this dude trying to see if they know what the man is talking about. If they don’t respond he’ll get suspicious.

The text will be along the lines of ‘Dude/tte! Some weird dudes saying you’re in some weird organisation, know anything babe?’

He’s gonna confront his S/o he wants to heard it from them face to face, he’s kinda hurt that they didn’t tell him before.

England:

“How dare you mock my S/o like that!”

When the man jumps out of nowhere he will jump, if he is public he’ll hold back the scream. He really wants to yell though.

The man might me smacked with his newspaper/Umbrella out of fear, he will apologize after, he doesn’t mean his sorry though (Such a bad boy)

He will listen to the man and scoff, only a proper gentlemen would listen to a madman speak of such nonsense.

Whatever this man says he won’t take lightly. He hates how real this all sounds, he needs some time to think.

He might not come home for a while, he wants some time to think about everything that man said and how much his S/o means to him.

When he does come home he’ll be acting off, he wants the truth from his S/o. He’ll be hurt either way but he’s ready.

Spain:

This man appears and Spain is instantly on edge. He doesn’t like strange men talking smack about his S/o.

That aura he had during the April fools episode is back, he really wants to knock the lights out of this weirdo.

He’ll listen but won’t take anything to heart. Unless this man can name and give the role of his S/o he’s not going to believe them.

If the man gives him actually evidence that his S/o works for this organisation, only then will he believe them.

He’s going to call his S/o and put them on speaker so that he can prove to this man they are in a relationship because they love each other.

If they admit to it over the phone he will be heartbroken. He’ll hang up on them midway through them talking and thank the man for getting him out before anything bad happened.

If Justice Kennedy will be so bold to overturn Austin V Michigan, he should raise an eyebrow.. two eyebrows.. and all academically inclined nasal hairs to the absolute catastrophe term lengths are making of congressional business. A two year term for the house may have been sufficient for 13 Colonies/states, let us now regard it far too short for incumbents to correctly attent themselves to issues voting and legislating instead of fundraising simultaneously almost from inauguration.  In that itself is a closely related association of legislation in process and the change of money from donor to elected official. 

Lets now see that only congress can face its own accountability to not accept funds per service nor disguise access as other than influence. The political party ‘donor brackets”, guarantee access to congresspersons.

I am contacting you on a serious matter of judicial fitness I have found Supreme Court Justice Anthony Kennedy lacking in reference to the Citizens United decision. Relating to the cases of McConnell et al v FEC and Citizens United FEC, the United States Supreme Court made no deference in being treated a fool that deliberate intent to break law would be challenged as unconstitutional under statutes that did not apply. In McConnell v FEC indicated that party's making the appeal desired to launder hard money into soft money purposes and vice versa. State and Local Committees were called in question whether they could transfer funds from other accounts to handle costs of soft money related costs.Many of McConnells challenges were accurately dismissed per curiam.

To Anthony Kennedy's failure was going so far to overturn Austin fully and McConnell in part and not further addressing a completely untested precedent in 1880s that offered corporations personification without a test of the precedent. In todays society, the groundwork of  San Mateo vs Southern Pacific Railroad would have no standing because the right a company to purchase land for commercial use is a zoning issue of county urban planning. WEB Du Bois and his lawyer Roscoe Conklin misrepresented the 14th Amendment to presume its original intent was personification of corporations and people. https://ratical.org/corporations/birthOwhiteC.html .  

Taking this into account, Chief Justice Morrison Waite accepted Conklins account of “his copy of the 14th Amendment Committee journal” verbatim before it was published and clearly brazenly misrepresented. Perhaps Morrison Waite was even worse; knowing the account to be false and part of its perpetuation. By this matter we have Citizens United seeking shelter under the Wellstone Amendment and if not the BCRA Wellstone Amendment, then Snow-Jeffords.Citizens United need not have move past this point since Citizens United didn't know which statute it was premising legal action. If they took the time to construct Hillary as a bait for a majority court to overturn Austin, they should've made the effort in details to know which subsection of PACs they were operating under.

Anthony Kennedy has created a mess of his Citizens United Opinion. The judicial branch cannot exist in an echo chamber to ignore the ongoing efforts and or appeasement 'political messages' assuring compaign corruption will be regulated and managed to avoid the appearance of corruption. In recent years FECA was passed and then  BCRA. The Supreme Court must recognize a compelling effort against corruption is known in all its 31 flavors by Congress .This congress to even suggest corporate influence contributes to the appearance of corruption leads to a suspect doubt of corporate purpose of free speech during the 20th century. Anthony Kennedy offered the appealant consideration what methods would be necessary to mangle either Wellstone or Snow Jeffords to their liking.

Where I find Kennedy's credibility is botched is that if so much precedent will be ripped out of the books in Citizens United ,the existence of corporate personification is also foreign to the constitution. The country did assert term limits for presidents, yet in Thornton v Termlimits the Supreme Court acted so originalist that it didn't notice the 1951 amendment making term limits an established limitation on congress/office access. In the constitution, forms of personfication were differentiated between Blacks , Whites and historically in broad senses...Native Americans also. A corporation is more likely to have an unequal stake in free speech next to flesh and blood White Citizens than peer per an originalist drawing of corporate personification.

Kennedy had other options: 1)Bottleneck all PACs to a behavior that must be identical no matter their contributors. 2) Regard the district court's ruling .. which was airtight. For SCOTUS to take Citizens United at all discredits the legal system. 3) Draw comparison between McConnell v FEC and Citizens United to show a consistent and deliberate circumvention of statute by associates of  the republican party, 4) finally , that Kennedy should not have enabled Citizens United to seem bipartisan with his vote /authorship when the clear partisan lines in the Supreme Court are evidence itself of the power of distortion. Corruption is not going to be a single dark horse. We just saw Senator Corker get a favor for his vote in the tax reform bill. That is very much quid pro quo personal aggrandisement. Corker is enriched. Stripping away his political identity, his vote benefits a bill political access to presidential affirmation no matter its addition to the deficit. Add to that a brokered Democrat Primary and a complete flight from values for republican voters. If the parties will not abide their own sacred cows , they can't be presumed to uphold federal morality for the sake of the system supported above them either as a republic or a democracy.

Anthony Kennedy observed a serious inability to regulate corporate speech by the statutes that were designed to regulate it. He did not take any time toward recommending the reworking of BCRA language as was done in the Voting Rights Act, and did not take effort to address the non Native existence of corporate speech from the Classical reading of the first amendment. Kennedy's obligatory strict scrutiny for free speech matters should have been inclusive of US Supreme Courts unique and sole duty to overrule its past decisions when necessary, and  narrowly tailor its rulings to the topic at hand. Citizens United is A PAC. As a PAC it is other than a common or generalized sense of a corporation. Its a nonprofit and intangible. If Citizens United were a corporation, it would be a media/ advertisement industry partner which also divides its interests from any typical corporation stereotype.

Perhaps some would call Citizens United a political industry partner. If so, its political identity even supports distortion a real and damaging force. Is the Supreme Court willing to say distortion as defined is non-existent: if yes , its overturn of Austin inturn has a strict scrutiny of narrow tailoring in the end result.

By overturning Austin, Kennedy and his cohorts challenged the definition of 'Distortion”, and all corporate speech for too narrow a situation and for too illprepared a challenge. In confrontation of the Supreme Court , Citizens United did not manage a facial challenge to Wellstone or Snow Jeffords because it didn't know/ or care which one it was pretending to be protected by.  Citizens United also demonstrates how political criminals will be treated as far too 'well meaning' by the Judicial branch even when official holders can be just as nefarious, immoral , and misleading in their purposes as murderers, car salesmen, and HIV infected hookers serving their IRA at all costs. A conservative majority affirming their stance is not justice. The face if a District Court having a very different analysis of the PACs blatant offense of FEC policy sounds the bells of distortion. Checks and balances now caters to rival definitions in government purpose in all branches.

Its additionally my purpose to call on an injunction of all cases regarding corporate speech until Corporate Personification is given strict scrutiny and weighed in light of corruption and appearance of corruption effects that required FECA and BCRA. Top Jurists shouldn't be so eager to discount that law student footnote in Bellotti.By identity law students don't misidentify planks they put forth. McCutcheon's opinion by Chief Justice Roberts used the same tactic as San Mateo to declare terms of his opinion for ease or distortion. Roberts indicated it was not a debate whether a person could donate less than the maximum limit. Similarly Morrison Waite declared corporate personification applied. If Roberts overturned McConnell by that matter , the state and federal political parties would reapply donations to balance that out anyway.  The conservatives are trying to pave a road that makes corruption sound normal. Being on that road can only be understood as ruling wrong no matter how impressive or scholarly. Conservatives are synonymous with the hand of distortion.

I have got the headcanon that female nations don't get menstruations. (I mean if they would, they would either have an infinite number of egg cells or they stop getting periods after 50 years and that’s weird to me) (It is also linked with the headcanon that male nations can't impregnat women or female nations can't get pregnant, national personfication are shown to just spawn on the ground, not born)

Yes, I'd like what they're having. Problem is some nations are shown to have biological parents (Eygpt and Greece are good examples) so maybe they do have periods like humans but not as often? I would say once a year for 2-7 days
