Nathan Past - The Sun / Present - Strength

The Sun is a card of unbridled positivity and optimism. When you see it upright in a reading, it is always a good sign. But it's also a card that's often unrealistic and naive. Other cards come with warnings, but the Sun does not.

Strength reminds us that physical force is one manifestation of power. Emotional strength is equally as important. The maiden has tamed the lion with her kindness and compassion, not by besting it in a fight. Still, it is important to remember that on this card, both maiden and lion share the mantle of Strength. It is both of them, not one or the other.

Both largely positive cards, the Sun and Strength embolden each other.

In regards to Nathan in particular, I have to point out the similarities of Nathan's 2024 avatar and the duality of the maiden and the lion. Nathan is perhaps best known for his kindness and warmth, qualities exemplified by the sun, but ignoring the wide spectrum of his feelings is like ignoring the lion. Personally, I admire him for his ability to keep his optimism and his bitterness and rage in balance.

Therefore, in a sense, Nathan's cards represent his increasing willingness to share his more negative frustrations, while never losing sight of the light of the sun.

Jacob Past - The Fool / Present - The Chariot

The Fool is unique in that it is the 0th Major Arcana. The Fool is unbound by numbers, by order. The Fool is potential incarnate, inviting us to leap towards the future and seize the day. The Fool does not care about plans, preferring to deal with each new situation as they arise.

In comparison, the Chariot is a focused force with a goal in mind and with the confidence to see it through. The two sphinxes that drive the chariot represent opposing desires, but upright the charioteer is able to get the sphinxes to move forward together through sheer willpower alone.

Together, they are a confident duo encouraging forward momentum. The Chariot reins in the Fool's more reckless aspects while the Fool reminds the Chariot to still have fun along the journey and that keeping plans flexible is important.

These two cards clearly represent Jacob's journey since Drawfee became independent. While his role as episode and stream host (in particular trying to get everyone through the intro) is the most obvious, this also includes his role as content strategist. His analytical side is where his Chariot aspects shine brightest. In addition, the Fool and the Chariot combine when he makes music. When Jacob's well crafted plans fall apart, it is the Fool that comes to his rescue.

Karina Past - The Empress / Present - The Magician

Representing Mother Nature, the Empress is all about beauty and creativity. The Empress asks us to embrace qualities traditionally seen as feminine, regardless of gender. You are not weak or lesser for taking care of yourself or expressing yourself. The Empress encourages us to get in touch with our emotions, as well as the natural world.

The Magician is numbered 1 in the Major Arcana, and represents the transformation of the raw potential of the Fool into something actionable. The Magician has all the tools needed to fulfill their desires, but those tools might not necessarily look usable in their current state. The Magician must recognize this and realize the true nature of these tools.

The Empress and the Magician are both creative cards and support each other in this endeavor, provided that the querent (person the card reading is about) takes initiative.

Though both cards symbolize Karina's journey these past four years, it is no surprise that the Magician is one of them, with the creation of Sonny Mama and other mixed media creations in the past year. Nothing exemplifies the Magician more than literally using things like a log and a brick as part of a sculpture. The Empress's presence is subtler though the numerous plants that live in Karina's apartment give it away.

Julia Past - The Tower / Present - The Emperor

Due to its name, Death is often seen as the "worst" Major Arcana card. It's not. That distinction goes to the Tower (though the "worst" tarot card overall goes to the Ten of Swords). The Tower is sudden upheaval, is destruction, is disaster. Yet even so, the Tower is not an unredeemable card. Far from it. Sometimes a situation is so bad the only way to end it is to obliterate it. Sometimes the old must be destroyed to give way for the new. The Tower does not give us the tools to rebuild, that is something we have to do on our own, but it does show us that it is possible to build something better from the rubble.

The Emperor represents an authoritative figure who enforces structure in an otherwise chaotic world. Equally, the Emperor is a strategist who keeps in mind the needs of others when making decisions. The Emperor is also a protector, shouldering burdens so that others don't have to.

It can be easy to think of these two cards as complete opposites. In reality, this means they are both sides of the same coin. If the Tower is destruction of the old paradigm, then the Emperor is the establishment of the new.

The Collegehumor Layoffs exemplify the idea of the Tower. An established workplace that came crashing down. And Julia, the Emperor, rose up to the challenge of dealing with all the paperwork that would eventually lead to Drawfee's independence. Four years later, Drawfee still benefits from the work Julia did, not to mention the fact that she continues to deal with everything finance related in regards to the company. Not to mention all of the other tasks Julia takes on. While all five members of Drawfee are essential, it would be safe to say Drawfee would be unable to exist in its current form without Julia.

Ladybug PV led to the creation of Null Era + other things: A theory re-evaluating the pre-production of Miraculous Ladybug

ah yes, the famous pv, with an alternative marinette that’s confident and an aloof cat boy called felix. yet, even though they seem to be based on null era, why are they still so different from their null era counterparts?

there were a lot of holes in timeline regarding the production, things that made no sense if it was sequenced that way. but when i started to see it this way, i think it solves some questions i had.

(i apologise for the messiness of all the ideas as i am just rambling)

so here’s my theory, as well as the reasons why i think so:

ladybug pv laid out the groundwork for null era. like such:

(first image represents the era in which marinette was confident, and nathan existed. for lack of a better term, i’ll refer it to the 2010 era.)

seems like toei was only given “2010” material to work with, and thus came up with the pv. this explains why alina, adoni, the bodyguards, null doesn’t show up. oh and why bridgette bug uses martial arts instead of weapons.

if anything, the pv isn’t based on null era, it’s based on the 2010.

looks to me like the pv expanded on the 2010 ideas by astruc

and the development team liked it so they expanded on the ideas even further into null era which explains actions shown in the pv, such as richard destroying the world because he’s power hungry.

bridgette’s design seems to be heavily based on this artwork specifically. long hair, same shorts and same shoes. except her top outfit, which seems to be from this right image, created even earlier.

her personality as well is obviously not shy. she’s much like the 2010 marinette rather than the null era.

now let’s talk about felix.

felix sphinx, on the other hand, has right swept bangs like in the pv, different from many other “felix-like” artworks that showcase nathan/ felix with left swept bangs.

if felix sphinx was based on the pv, the difference in their personalities makes much more sense. why pv is portrayed as being annoyed with bridgette, however not in the same degree as astruc’s nathan version. most likely while creating null era, the team further toned down on the annoyed aspect and heightened his nerd side to create who we know as felix sphinx.

not to mention, the pv is also the only media that depicts felix with being studious (books), other than the july 2012 bible.

now take a look at these, which i believe are all based on the image on their left.

2010->PV->Null Era

i used to think the right image inspired the middle image, but now arranging it this way makes more sense to me.

in terms of how everything actually went down:

i think that there were on going discussions on how astruc’s original “2010” concept could be altered during 2010-2012. many ideas were being brought up then scraped such as (the later part of) mini menace, quantic kids, etc, leading to an influx of art and ideas tossed around during this time, especially during 2012.

before toei officially became the co-producer, i think toei brought up the possibility that it could be 2d animation, then created the pv using the original astruc concept, of course with their own ideas tossed in (like how another producer wanted quantic kids). the proposal for 2d was rejected in the end, but i think they wanted to explore toei’s ideas, thus leading to the creation of null era.

rather than see it as a linear progression with a lot of mixing in between “eras” which is how i saw it in the past, the development should be seen as a centre (2010) being branched out into multiple ideas all scattered around the place. each era/ version is just the team mixing and matching elements that they like, and going forward with whatever fits best + goes through the approval of sponsors and producers. this leads to why chat noir was officially confirmed to be called felix during september 2012 while he’s called adrien in the first bible, why quantic kids appeared in the super lady luck game, why the pv and the bible, which differed greatly in ideas, existed during the same time (it’s also possible pv was made much much earlier than the date it was put onto youtube).

How many Felixes are there in the Lady Bug universe?! What is the difference between Felix Agreste from Lady Bug PV and Felix Sphinx? did they have different characters and personalities? How are they different and how are they similar? Was Felix always a morally gray character (anti-hero/anti-villain) or is there still a version where he was an antagonist, sociopath or Marinette's arch rival?

LOl ok slow down.

Maybe in mini-menace there might have been a rivalry. Chat is only present in one cover, and another cover where he is implied to be hunting ladybug via the black cat and ladybug.

However, My favorite idea is that chat noir may be the detective investigating Ladybug for her vigilantism and/or involvement in the gang involved in the murder of her parents.

Since then, Chat noir was always designed to be her partner.

even if that "partnership" is less than ideal on Marinette's (Or Nathan, as I like to call this version of Chat) part. This dynamic was phased out pretty quickly, about the end of the QK phase of development.

There is no "Felix Agreste" the PV "Felix" is actually Adrien Nanty. (Felix Nanty, if you want to stick the felix name.) His father was actually a hotel baron (think chloe's dad sans the mayorship) and his mother was present and doting, especially due to his disability. (That whole narrative is really ableist and deserves its own breakdown) And he's actually quite sweet, as depicted in a ton of the bibles as thinking fondly of Marinette and turning to her for advice quite frequently. He's also depicted as wanting to be a doctor, so he funnels all his free time into studying. (Which is most likely what he was doing in the library during PV)

Not to say that his name was never "Felix", because it was. But by the time PV rolled around, his name had been changed to Adrien.

Felix Sphinx is the idea that If Adrien -> Gabriel, than Felix -> Richard. And Richard Sphinx -> Felix Sphinx. He's an interesting villain who fills that shitty father role way better than Gabriel. (who was actually really pompous and silly in his first incarnation after they phased out Richard)

How many Felixes are there in the Lady Bug universe?

One at a time. Be it Nathan, Adrien, or Felix himself. The character went through tons of development. Felix Fathom is not a "Felix" because he is not Chat Noir. He is a new character, original to the series like Kagami and Luka.

What is the difference between Felix Agreste from Lady Bug PV and Felix Sphinx?

Agreste's dad is Gabriel, Sphinx' Dad is Richard Sphinx. PV Felix' parents are not shown, but it is most likely he is Adrien Nanty, who's parents are alive, not evil, and own a hotel. However, since the identity of Papillon is kept a mystery in all media (including Canon for a time) it is possible that pv Felix is Sphinx. But the characters are similar enough that it could be interchangeable. Who knows.

Yes. But not in the way you think. Nanty and Sphinx liked Marinette. Nathan found her annoying. Adrien did not have an opinion on her for a long time- (esp if we are to base it all on episode 1/introducing the characters, Adrien was indifferent and distant)

Err... Morally grey, maybe in QK stuff and canon. Where he aims for ladybugs affection instead of being a hero. Antagonist maybe in Mini Menace. But sociopath? Canon maybe. Adrien frequently throws tantrums and threatens people, is viciously jealous, and has threatened and blackmailed plagg at least three times (remember kuro neko where feeling left out > his relationship with Plagg) but, again, PV era Felix/Adrien isn't an asshole or a jerk. He just has teenage angst and suffers from the twilight sparkle disease of "stop studying, make some friends, and touch grass" jfc.

Look, I know people are super ride or die on "cursed ring needs a kiss" stuff but there is more evidence to the contrary. The artbook is a great resource, but it was made by another company, and the curse is never mentioned anywhere else. I don't doubt that there was a phase where they did consider it, but it vanished so quickly that it was mentioned only once and then disappeared. Yet nobody uses other details like.. him wanting to be a doctor... Or his boxing... Or him being super into art... Or even his love of BMX. Yeah.

Metalocalypse OC week 2024, Day 5: Long Distance

While they didn’t leave on the best of terms after DOOM-OPOLIS III, Makina still calls the members of Lycan RIOT every so often to catch up on life. Some relationships have been mended, while others remain a mystery.

They had a cameo back in the prologue chapter. I don’t wanna spoil too much, but let me list off some more “insignificant to the plot” facts about each of them.

Chester got married 3 months before the start of the Doomstar Requiem. His wife is actually a very old OC of mine, named Tanja Cerabella.

Syd is a transmasc demiboy, he uses he/him and they/them pronouns. He also has 2 sphinx cats, one cat named Lou and the one pictured is named Libby.

Gerard is by far the most quiet out of the group and tends to be out of the loop half the time. (Here, he just learned about Makina being under Nathan’s wing)

Their dynamic would be Makina’s the chaos, Syd is the heart and soul, Chester is the logical one, and poor Gerard gets pulled into the wacky situations.

When they were Lycan RIOT; Syd was the bassist and Gerard was their lead guitarist, though sometimes would play each other’s instruments. The band played emo metal music.

Syd is half Spaniard and half greek-American, Gerard is Italian-American, and Chester was from Britain (he had moved to America when he was in middle school).

Syd was the one who gave Makina the nickname “Medusa” due to her constant failing love-life at the time.

Chester’s name pays homage to the late Chester Bennington from Linkin Park and drummer Travis Barker from Blink-182. Gerard’s first name is a reference to My Chemical Romance’s Gerard Way.

Metalocalypse #41: "Dethhealth" | November 23, 2009 - 12:30AM | S03E03

I watched season three when it was on television, but remember very little of it, and suspect that I haven’t actually rewatched any of these since they aired. Good thing I spent way too much money, probably, buying this brand new on blu-ray.

Dethklok have a brush with death when playing a concert meant to help a massive amount of pets get neutered. Fans bring their pets to get their balls cut off by a machine, which collects the nasty things in a big glass receptacle. Predictably, all hell breaks loose, and the Sphinx is destroyed, nearly flattening Dethklok. Suddenly, the band becomes very aware of their own mortality. This fear or “hamburger time” (the “making cotton candy” of this episode) causes the band to subject themselves to a variety of doctors visits. The doctors visits cause Murderface to doubt his sexuality, Nathan to befriend his clearly-suicidal dentist, and Toki to have a cat. Also: Pickles tests come back and it’s bad: he’s dying. 

This one is pretty great, but it still demonstrates the show’s transition to the half-hour format not being exactly seamless. In fact, there’s a case to be made that it barely hangs together and is more-or-less a collection of B-plotish vignettes. There are scenes that you know would’ve been snipped out if this were an eleven minute episode. The scene where they all demand a decadent beach vacation before going to the doctor and leave a desiccated beach in their extravagant wake feels especially superfluous. The dream sequences are cool, but they feel like padding. But if you're going to pad for time on this show, it should be with something nightmarish, like Nathan having his jaw get Ebert'd off his face. The saving grace is that a lot of it is pretty funny, so who really cares? Honestly, this shit being more cohesive sorta comes second to that. 

Pickles doesn’t wind up dead after all because it turns out his pee was switched with Toki’s cat’s, who dies, because anything Toki loves winds up dead. This one ends with a fairly delightful music video where Toki’s head appears on a cat’s body. It’s derivative of season one’s Dethkids, but again, it’s a fun cartoon with cussing in it. How could something with cussing in it be taken that seriously?

The post credits scene, where Nathan takes his dentist on a hunting trip in order to save him from suicide and he immediately says “check this out” and blows his own head off with his hunting rifle, is a memorable one. It’s the one part I remembered from this, hence me calling it "memorable".
