Alright, after putting it off for a bit (due to real life being busy and also I got lazy), I’ve finally gone through and prepared the list of ships for the tournament! Congrats to the lucky 64, and apologies to anyone else whose ship didn’t make it in. I did appreciate every single entry that followed the rules, though, and all the infodumps made me smile!

Before the list, however, I wanna say that this post and the eventual bracket matchup post are going to double as places to post your propaganda via replies and reblogs (or even asks). 7 Comfort Movies

1. Clue- there isn’t a second of this movie that is wasted, every single part of it is wonderful- the costumes, the dialogue, the over the top spectacle of it all- every single person in this (it also has the perfect amount of characters, I don’t know why this is a thing for me but it is) but all of them bite into the scenery and do not let go for 97 minutes and it is SENSATIONAL. I wish I could go back to 1985 and tell the people who said it sucked what they’re missing (and tell them about the multiple endings I can imagine how confusing that was in a pre social media world).

2. The Producers (the 2005 version) it’s impossible for me to watch this movie and be in a bad mood. Matthew Broderick and Nathan Lane play off each other so well and I relate to Leo Bloom on a spiritual level (the line “you’ve mistaken me for someone with a spine” - MOOD). I haven’t seen the original so it may be rehashing but this just makes me happy.

3. Emperors New Groove- Aka the most underrated Disney movie in existence- Lordy do I love this movie. Every single of line is this is so goddamn funny even from the characters that aren’t necessarily supposed to be (I love Pacha’s wife- “UGH! I gotta go wash something”). And the fact that they wanted to do a villain as a young person backstory and picked Cruella over Yzma- a TRAVESTY. GIVE ME MY YZMA CENTERED PREQUEL DISNEY- I MEAN IT! (Sorry for all the shouting. Probably shouldn’t have filled this out after back to back shifts lol).

4. Sleepless in Seattle- this movie is just like a warm hug to me. Not even that it’s romantic- like it is but it’s so much more than that- it has just the right amount of characters and it does a good job of being a movie where they tell you don’t base your life around a movie but still being one of those movies and Rosie O’Donnell’s character is friend goals and Tom Hanks- he really is that charming- it’s one of those movies where I just think about it for weeks after I watch it (particularly the part at the end where he finally gets to Jonah and tearfully tells him “you’re my family. You’re all I’ve got”. Also the father-son stuff is top notch.

5. The Goonies- I’m still not over that Ke Huy Quan mentioned Jeff Cohen in his Oscar speech- but they are just the cutest group of kids and Brand is the cutest older brother in the you are so annoying but also you’re not gonna get hurt on my watch way and Chunk is adorable and I love all these goobers so much

6. Mary Poppins- this movie is just so wonderful. It’s beautifully shot and the songs and in between dialogue is amazing and I’m always embarrassed to tell people how much I love this movie cause I’m much too old and might cry about how much it means to me.

7. Muppet Treasure Island- MARGARITAS AT THE MIDNIGHT BUFFET!! This movie is really funny and also really sweet at the same time? Like I think about the there’s got to be something better song once a week but then there’s Gonzo whispering “I believe they prefer visually challenged fiend” and Jennifer Saunders as the innkeeper who can always hear them- “I’ll be fine boys- run for it!” “How does she do that?!” And Tim Curry- Tim Curry is having so much fun in this movie (“Satan is heating his pokers for you, you… blasphemous heathens!”) If I had two hours left to live I would put this movie on.

I need Wormblr and Pactblr to start reading An Unauthorized Fan Treatise immediately. Especially those of you who like unhinged women like Rose and Taylor. The basic pitch is that it's told through a collection of social media posts in which a fictional tumblr user named Gottiewrites attempts to prove two actors in her favorite TV show are secretly queer and in a relationship (think the One Direction shipping conspiracy theories of the tumblr golden age). If that doesn't immediately interest you, then don't worry, because it's not just an exploration of fandom culture, it's also an incredible thriller, mystery, and arguably psychological horror story with minor arg elements. The framing device is that all these posts are actually collected and being submitted as evidence in a murder trial. The identity of both the victim and the person on trial is unknown for most of the story, so there's plenty to speculate on. Gottie is one of the most compelling protagonists I've ever had the pleasure to read about, and should honestly be used to teach people what an effective unreliable narrator looks like. I found myself doubting pretty much everything she said (remember almost all of it is her social media posts, so that's pretty much everything), and after finishing it a couple days ago I still couldn't tell you what the truth was. I don't want to say much more because I do think it's best experienced with as little knowledge as possible.

Maybe most importantly though, at 70k words it's *much* shorter than a Wildbow web serial, so it's not a huge commitment.

Tldr, read An Unauthorized Fan Treatise if you like: learning about internet drama, unhinged women protagonists, stories that break your brain, tightly written thrillers, and unconventional story formats.

England, France, South Africa, and Ireland advance to the semifinals of the World Rugby U20 Championship.

The Junior Springboks battled to a 24-16 victory (halftime 7-16) over Argentina on a chilly and windy night at Athlone Stadium in Cape Town, securing their spot in the World Rugby U20 Championship semifinals.

The Junior Boks performed as required, exerting enough pressure to wear down the Argentineans to prevent them from scoring after the interval. If it weren’t for a few near calls in the second half, the difference may have been even greater.

Even though they occasionally made it difficult for themselves, the South Africans won’t moan about the result because all they needed was the win.

Emotional victory for Ireland

Ireland won Pool B of the World Rugby U20 Championship after displaying amazing grit to defeat Fiji following a terrible few days.

The Irish managed to perform despite learning that Greig Oliver, the father of U20 player Jack, had passed away before the game on Thursday.

The weekend deaths of Andrew O’Donnell and Max Wall, two people the players knew, on the Greek island of Ios had also had an impact on Ireland.

By defeating South Africa, who won Pool C, 47–27, they advance to the semifinals, which will take place on Sunday in South Africa.

Australia fight back against England

Australia prevented England from earning the bonus point victory they required to win Pool B, but the latter did advance to the semifinals based on points differential.

Australia needed a maximum to have a chance of moving on, and two minutes before the end, they were still chasing it when replacement center Harry McLaughlin-Phillips powered over for their third try. However, fly-half Jack Bowen was unable to add the conversion, and subsequent assaults from the Junior Wallabies in the dying seconds were ineffective.

After drawing 34-34 with Ireland on day one, England lost their composure after hooker Nathan Jibulu powered over for their third try and had to settle for a draw for the second time in the tournament.

Missing out on World Rugby U20 semi-finals is New Zealand

To have any chance of making it to the semifinals, New Zealand needed to defeat Japan by a score of 62-19 and by a margin of 67 points, but they were only able to win by 62-19.

New Zealand led 38-12 at halftime thanks to scores from Isaac Hutchinson, Sam Hainsworth-Fa’aofo, Macca Springer (2), Malachi Wrampling, and Taha Kemara.

In the second session, Kemara, Springer, Cooper Flanders, and Will Stodart all scored goals, but the Baby Blacks were unable to advance to the semi-finals.

Ryohei Imano, Takashi Omoto, and Kouta Nagashima scored the tries for Japan in the setback, which saw them finish the group stages at the bottom of Pool A following three defeats.
