@headstrongblake said: the guilt eats me up inside / nate & dealers choice
things had gone from 1 to 100 really quick once the cops entered the nightclub, but nate could tell that they were ready to start shit from the moment he laid his eyes on them. most of the time nate did his best to avoid the cops, to steer clear of the law in any way possible but as nick lunged at them after the first few swings, shattering glass and breaking shit, nate couldn't just stand by and watch. as one of the men tried to restrain nick, nate tackled him to the ground and well.. now they were sitting in separate cells next to one another after being booked for assault which though true was bullshit because it was obvious that's what the bastards wanted.
nate ran his hands through his hair before leaning back with a heavy sigh. he'd stayed in far less comfortable places but he also had been getting used to the guest bed at octavias. glancing through the bars over towards nick who seemed unmoving with his head in his hands, nate frowned softly. "hey.. you okay?" he asked quietly. nate himself had gotten a bloody lip and a good kick to the ribs that he was sure would leave a nasty bruise but overall he'd had worse. he hadn't seen if nick had gotten better or worse after nate tackled the first cop to the ground but he knew the man had been through quite a lot over the past couple months and he doubted this helped.
nicks noncommital reply had nate's frown furrow a little more before he leaned back against the wall, "sorry they fucked up your bar, man... that shit was uncalled for..." they did it because they could and to spit on the club and to disrespect the members there at the time. "i'm sure octavia'll get us out in no time, or get someone else, maybe kassy? she's a lawyer isn't she? or well.. maybe not yet," he murmured more to himself now as he scratched at his chin. the silence from nick had nate shift closer to the bars, "hey, nick, really, are.. you okay?" it was clear he wasn't and while nate couldn't blame him his mild concern was growing for the guy.
at first he thought nick was going to snap at him, it wouldn't be unusual or necessarily uncalled for since nate was pestering him but instead; the guilt... eats me up inside, he very quietly heard from nick and nate's jaw clenched as he swallowed. nate was quiet himself a moment as he digested what nick said and tried to figure out just what was all encompassing that statement. he doubted he was talking about the reason he ended up in jail tonight but probably more about leaving that time ago. with the knowledge that kassy hadn't wanted him to go and then the girls and alec getting into a crazy situation while he and rev were gone... nate could understand that guilt.
"yeah... guilt'll do that to you..." he agreed quietly, knowing how much he still felt towards duncans death. "but you can't let it man, we all make mistakes, we all make choices that backfire on us sometimes, and look i'm not gonna even pretend i know all you've gone through or whatever... it's not my business, but what i do know is the people here missed you, and i doubt, no matter how pissed at you they are, they would want this for you." he wasn't quite sure what the hell he was saying, not often was he the type to give very good advice, at least thats what he thought. after another moment of silence nate then added, "you did get one good hook in on that bastard with the mustache tho," he murmured with a small smile, glancing sideways at nick, "think you broke his sunglasses, and his nose."

We’re at the S1 finale. Hard to believe. Thank you all for staying on this journey with me it’s been super rewarding. When I started didn't expected the support I got. Also been fun to fill the hiatus with this since we're all waiting for S6. Not sure when this strike will end. So fun to rewatch the series this way. Rewatching s1 with analytical eyes and knowing where they are now has been eye opening. I’ve seen a lot of people writing about how writers said Chenford wasn’t meant to happen this early on. Idk that’s true with the incredible foundation that has been laid in s1.
The beautiful base that continues to solidly with each ep. Especially this finale. I think the finale is when if you hadn’t been shipping them before you were after this ep. I was all in day one I just knew it would be a slow burn before we got there. Also Eric and Melissa are amazing together. Drew me in right away. Their chemistry is unparalleled. Can’t deny that. Like I said in my first review I started watching for Nathan and Eric. Never knowing the beautiful ship I was gonna get along the way. Anyways off to the finale we go :)
1x20 freefall
It’s the week of their big test. It decides whether or not they get to continue on in the FTO program. You can get a score as low as an 80 and pass. To the T.O.’s that’s a fail. Tim tells a Lucy if she gets anything less than a 93 it’s an insult to him LOL Lucy doesn’t even let it phase her how far we’ve come. She continues on asking what he’s going to do with all his free time when she passes?
Tim is confused at first then realizes she’s talking about her daily evals. She suggests a book club haha Tim as far as he’s come is still Tim in T.O. mode around others. Gotta keep up the hard ass act. Tells her ‘Whether I evaluate you daily or weekly. I will continue to judge you every minute.’ haha damn Tim way to shut down her playful banter lmao
First call of the day for our lovely duo is at a psychic shop. Silent alarm has been tripped. Guy is going after this psychic because she ‘saw’ he killed his wife and is losing it on her. It was a fluke she figured it out and she says as much haha Afterwards she brazenly hits on Tim and he has no idea how to handle it.
His embarrassed face is everything. He wasn’t expecting that at all. It’s like he doesn’t know he is gorgeous ass man. The way he looks back at Lucy is priceless. Like please help me baha Lucy is enjoying it immensely. Her face says it all I’m dying. She isn’t helping him out of this one. He awkwardly walks away from the psychic it’s too damn funny. Tim Bradford left speechless. What world we live in haha
After a light start to their day it comes to serious halt. There’s a deadly virus and possible outbreak they all have to prevent. This came from the dead body Nolan and Bishop found earlier at the bus station. He was tied into the terrorist threat. This postpones their test naturally. Lucy and Tim are tasked with talking to one of the citizens that took same bus as this guy.
As they’re rolling up to this guys house Lucy says she thought the test was going to be the most stressful part of her day. Tim tells her best case scenario it’s tomorrows problem. Lucy makes a nervous joke 'What’s worst case scenario? Never mind don’t answer that' haha Oh Lucy the most stressful part of your day starts now.
The gentleman thinks they’re there to bring back his luggage. Tim enters the bedroom without Lucy. They tell Pete they are there just to interview him. He pulls out the bag he grabbed by mistake and shows Tim the ‘weird science equipment ‘inside. That he cut his finger on it looking for an address. Tim’s red flags are immediately up when he says this. Lucy can instantly tell something is up but Tim tells her to stay at bay. First instinct is always to protect her. Tim see’s the guys cut finger and alarm bells are going off for him. Lucy calls it in while she waits outside the bedroom for Tim.
The guy then coughs up blood on Tim. He freezes and looks the most panicked I've ever seen him. I LOVE how Eric can express so much with just a look. He's such a good actor I can not. After he collects himself a bit he hears Lucy coming to check on him and shuts the door instantly. Despite Lucy yelling ‘No!’ When he does.
Tim refuses to let her be around whatever this is even a second. Creating an immediate barrier to keep Lucy safe. He locks the door to keep her out there. Pete starts to freak out. Tim tells Pete that his partner has called an ambulance for them. Makes me happy while he’s trying to keep this guy calm he calls Lucy his ‘partner’ not his rookie but his partner. It’s the little things ❤️ Lucy is panicking like crazy on the other side of this door. She wants to be let in to help him. It’s killing her they’re separated right now.
Lucy is begging him to leave that guy in there and join her outside. Tim being the honorable man he is refuses to. Tells her they need to keep this as contained as possible. Lucy is panic stricken and wants to help him but is trapped outside. Tim is doing his best to keep her calm. The words he says I think are for them both. He just had blood spewed onto him. Tim is being as calm as one could be in that type of situation.
He’s the one in danger and his first thought is to put Lucy at ease. To try and keep her calm. To 'keep her head in the game' If she could see his face as he says these things...She would see how very not fine he is. The most rattled we’ve seen him the entire season. This moment and honestly this entire episode is definitely another huge crack in his wall with her. Letting that Lucy light seep in just a little bit more.
The CDC finally arrive and they set up a quarantine zone much to Lucy's dismay. She’s on the edge and wants to get Tim out of there ASAP. Can’t stand the idea of him sitting in there for an hour or more while they wait for the vaccine. Dr. Morgan asks him if she can put him to work while he’s in there. Tim says yes. Lucy tells him to please be careful while he’s in there. Such a worried wifey.
Tim uses his body cam to help them see inside the bag more. They figure out how they’re going to spread it through a mist fan. As Tim continues to search the bag they see Pete lifting a chair. Lucy freaks out and yells for Tim to watch out. All they see is him getting knocked out. Lucy is losing her mind outside not knowing what’s happening in that room. The absolute terror in her voice. My heart. How helpless she feels on the other side of that door.
Tim wakes up inches from the blood stain on the carpet rolling toward him. He’s able to get away from it and tases Pete. After that Tim gets him locked to the bed frame. All the while Lucy is losing it outside. Desperate to hear from him. Calling out his name multiple times. Begs Tim to answer her. She is out of her mind with worry. If she was allowed to break that door down she would.
Tim finally responds to Lucy tells her that he’s ok. She asks him if he’s really is. Because she knows him and how he tries to put a strong facade for her sake. Tim attempts to make a joke about it. His voice cracking a bit with worry. Trying to make jokes about this but his armor has been cracked. This a deflection right now more than anything else. His vulnerability coming out of him with her whether he likes it or not.
He can't hide anything from her and and Lucy picks up on his worry quickly. Knows he's attempting to mask how he is really feeling right now. She can hear it in his voice. From there she turns into ultra worried wife mode. She demands they get that damn vaccine here right now. She is losing her patience while he’s trapped in that room without her. Love me some assertive/worried Lucy.
I can't imagine what he is going through all by himself in that room. Poor Tim has to sit there and watch this guy die right in front of him. Can't help the man just has to sit there and watch him die. The look on his face ugh. The utter terror on his face. Lucy is already freaking out if she could see him…she would break down that damn door virus or not and drag him out of there.
Next begins the iconic wall separation scene. As I said earlier if you weren't shipping them before you sure as hell were after this moment. Lucy tells him she just checked with Dr Morgan. That the vaccine is minutes away. Tim instantly knows this is a lie to comfort him. Its here we see a chunk of his wall break off and hit the ground as he compliments her. Naturally she’s going to rib him about it (because she can't actually process when he does compliment her) but it's also to keep his head clear. Just like he's done for her so many times before.
The role reversal is so evident in this scene. Lucy is doing what he normally does for her. Trying to keep him calm by making jokes. Keeping it light. The smile on his face when she ask for it to be in writing is too precious. He needs Lucy and all her sunshine ways right now. He's holding onto to every word she is saying. She comforting/calming him just by being there for him.
This is such a huge moment of vulnerability for Tim. The biggest one of the entire season really. That bond they’ve built up to this point is result of that. Lucy tells him its going be ok that she truly believes that. Tim is so defeated at this point. He doesn't take much stock in her words. Eric and Melissa crush this scene. To have this good of a dynamic with a door between them. My goodness they're amazing. Like I said earlier Eric is incredible with how he conveys what he's feeling with a look. This scene has it in spades. Look at this poor man's face down below. Makes me wanna cry.
You can see his normal resolve is dissolving rapidly. Which is why Lucy is there to keep it intact. Tim looks like he’s on the verge of tears while she’s trying to comfort him. Lucy is trying to be his rock. Its why I think he is spilling his guts to her. He trusts her with his thoughts/feelings. Tim is being the most vulnerable he's ever been with her right now. Telling her everything. That if he ends up showing symptoms he’s not going to allow himself to die that way.
Gotta love Lucy trying to pick up the pieces and keep him together. Being as optimistic as she can while he is hopeless. For him to share such a dark thought is huge. That he would rather kill himself than die like that. He is emotionally exposing himself to her right now. In a way I’m sure he hasn’t since Isabel. This is a massive step for him entrusting her with his thoughts and emotions. Because right now Tim thinks this is it for him. If he's going out he wants to make sure she knows his plans.
Lucy is very aware what he is saying but is trying to talk him out if it. Desperately trying to keep his head level. She finally lets out a tear she's been holding the whole scene. He's considering killing himself and she can't do a damn thing about it. The stress of the situation finally getting to her when she sheds that tear. This is an iconic moment for them. Tim being so openly vulnerable with her and Lucy being there to receive it best way she can. Gah it’s all so good. This scene 'hurts so good' as they say. This moment is a milestone for them and their relationship. Where they go from just TO/Rookie to friends.
The vaccine finally arrives and Lucy tries to follow the doctor in. Dr. Morgan won’t let her since she is not protected. You can tell its killing her to have to stay back. That look they share between them when Dr. Morgan is checking him out. Phew lord. She says he dodged a bullet. The looks in this scene are so telling. These two have a masters in silent communication. That look of worry/panic on her face. She wants to run up and hug him. That clearly isn’t in the cards. So she just intently watches him. Lucy doesn’t take her eyes off him the entire time.
The way he stares back at her and lets her know it’s ok. I’m ok. Even the small smirk towards the end. They just went through something very emotional and intense together. Tim says so much with just a look for her. Yeah he dodged bullet and he did so because of Lucy. She didn't leave his side for a second. He recognizes this and conveys it in a look. Such an intimate moment for them with no words. God I love them.
Before this episode ends Let’s take a moment to enjoy Tim Bradford in a tight white T-shirt shall we? Mmm. Yum. The rest join Lucy and Tim at Pete's house. Having returned from taking down the other culprits. They’re all making jokes now that they know he’s ok. Saying how he’ll refuse to take the ambulance or wheelchair haha
As they’re making their jokes Tim walks to said ambulance. As he does he looks light headed and collapses. All jokes stop and they rush around him. Lucy being the first they hold her back. Thus ends s1 with a cliffhanger.
I think I watched this finale a disgusting amount of times haha I was so eager for s2 and more of Tim/Lucy. To see what happens to Tim in the premiere and all that.

"RUSSELL CASE IS UNDER WAY NOW," Hamilton Spectator. March 17, 1913. Page 14. ---- Brooklyn Pastor Examined By Defendant's Lawyer ---- Man Who Broke Into Freight Got Three Years ---- Weiler Stole Overcoat From Radial Conductor ---- The action in which Pastor Charles T. Russell, of the Brooklyn Tabernacle, charges Rev, J. J. Ross, of the James street Baptist church, with having published a slanderous pamphlet about him, was resumed to-day before Police Magistrate Jeifs, after many adjournments. The examination of the complainant by George Lynch-Staunton, K.C., counsel for Mr. Ross, going on when court adjourned for luncheon, Mr. Staunton said it would take another two hours to complete the examination. Pastor Russell refused to take the oath on the Bible but swore by raising his right hand to tell the truth.
He admitted being in a gents' furnishing business in Allegheny, Pa., at one time and continued it for about ten years. Before quitting he established the Watch Tower. He attended the ordinary public schools for about seven years and was read in Latin terms to a certain extent, but never took a term in theology philosophy. He had never been ordained by a bishop or minister. Asked the definition of a religious fakir he said it was one who shammed religion. He did not think that he had conferred on himself the title of pastor
He admitted that Marian Ackley. whom he married in 1859, got a legal separation from him, but did not геmember that alimony was mentioned in an action she brought in 1906, When the lawyer asked the witness if during the trial his wife accused him of having improper relations with other women, Russell's counsel, S. F. Washington, K.C, took objection, and the magistrate said witness could answer in his own way. Russeli said his wife said something about seeing him with other women in his house, but it was not true. Mr Staunton read extracts from the evidence, which Russell admitted had been given. The woman, with whom he was charged with having intimate relations, was married now and resided in Australia. He admitted that the judge found on the evidence that he had been cruel to his wife. Witness admitted she was getting alimony from him and that he left the state of Pennsylvania after the judgment. He said the Watch Tower society owned timber lands, buildings and farms throughout the states. He denied that he had a monopoly of the society, also that the money was handed over to the United States Investment association. He admitted that he got nothing out of one action for slander against the Washington Post, but that after the paper settled another suit for $15,000. He was also questioned about the Brooklyn Eagle suit and the miracle wheat, some of which he admitted had been sold for a dollar a pound.
STOLE OVERCOAT John Weller, Sherman avenue north, appeared before his worship this morning charged with the theft of an overcoat, the property of Thomas Freeman, a conductor on the Hamilton Radial Electric Railway, and was found guilty, but remanded for a few days, until enquiries are made about him. The complainant said he was a conductor on an Oakville car, and while in the Terminal Yards, waiting for orders, he hung his overcoat on a hat rack in the car from where it disappeared. The only defense offered by Weiler was that he was drunk.
CASE DISMISSED Percy Springstead, 82 Wilson street, answered to a charge of theft made by Hugh McGregor. The evidence showed that the two men were carpenters and when working together, McGregor borrowed a plane from the accused, and when it was not turned in proper shape, got a bit, the property of the complainant. He intended to keep this article until his plane was returned to him in the same shape as he loaned it. The magistrate dismissed the case, saying there was no evidence of theft.
MINORS BARRED Nathan Kault, a James street north pool room proprietor, charged with allowing minors to enter his place of business and being found guilty, was assessed a fine of $10
GOT THREE YEARS Lafayette Reed, [pictured above] the young man who appeared on Saturday and was found guilty of the theft of a number of articles from the T.. H and R Railway company, appeared this morning for sentence, and received a term of three years. In sentencing him the cadi said he would have a good opportunity to learn a trade while confined, and advised him to take advantage of it.
SLOW TO ANSWER. Waiter Hanley, John street north, an Indian lister, was remanded for a few days. When asked where he purchased his beverage he was undecided for a time whether to tell or not, and before he made up his mind the magistrate ordered the case to be laid over. Hanley said he procured the booze from Mullin's hotel case.
NO EVIDENCE Terrance Scott, Main street west, answered to a charge of assault and theft of three rings from Margaret O'Keefe, and his wife,Nellie, appeared charged with stealing an overcoat from the same complainant. When Mrs. O'Keefe took the stand to give evidence, Terry commenced to question her on various subjects, and between the replies received and the questions asked the backbenchers had plenty of comedy. From the evidence submitted, the court dismissed the case. When the parties concerned were leaving the room, his worship was overheard to say: "There is a case for the clergyman of this city to look into, they should take hold of that woman and reform her."
ACTION FAILED. The Hamilton Cotton company was defendant in a wage case. Fred Forbes, the complainant, said he was entitled to $14.04 for services rendered, but on the evidence sworn to by a representative of the company, the court thought differently, and so dismissed the charge.
[Reed or Reed was 19, from Rodney, Ontario, with no previous criminal record, and was formerly a farmer. He was convict #F-567 and worked in a shoe shop at Kingston Penitentiary. He was reported July 1913 for a serious charge and put into solitary for a week, in August he spent another week in solitary on a similar charge, and in September he was reported twice, losing a week's remission and spending 9 meals on bread and water. In 1914 he moved to the stone pile, and was only put back in fall 1914 at a 'trade'. In 1915 he lost remission on two separate occasions for minor offences. He was released in January 1916. And yes, in the first case mentioned, the Russell in the slander case is the founder of the Bible Student movement, a fraction of which became the Jehovah's Witnesses.]

Cutting Edge Master List
Returning to Denver after Christmas, you spent most of your time at the rink after practice working on polishing your own skating again. You had been informed that all skating coaches would be performing at the upcoming NHL All-Stars weekend, and every figure skater had been sent music to choreograph a routine to. Luckily for you, choreography was one of your strong points. You had always loved putting your own routines together, and this was no exception. You had been sent the song CHAMPION by Bishop Briggs and though you loved the song, you knew your routine had to be flawless to skate to it. You were the reigning Olympic champion after all. Nate would stay most of the time with you, trying his best to be helpful and give you his opinion when you asked for it. He admittedly did not know much about figure skating though and usually just told you everything looked great, even when you knew it probably wasn’t. You appreciated his support though none the less.
Two weeks before the All-Star break was set, you found yourself traveling to Dallas as the boys had a game against the Stars. Along with the Stars came the one figure skater you could live without ever dealing with again, Ashley Wagner. Beside Nate, no one knew the animosity that was between the two of you, and you were hoping to keep it that way. You didn’t need to worry the team with a petty feud between two rival figure skaters.
You were staring out the window of the plane when you felt someone sit down next to you. Turning, you saw Nate settling into the seat as he gave you a questioning look. “You okay?” he asked. He knew you weren’t looking forward seeing Ashley, and was not sure what this new environment would bring out. You smiled and nodded, opening your book again to distract you.
Nate was worried about you. He had been watching you stress yourself out over putting together a perfect routine for the All-Stars, not to mention helping Jeremy put his together over multiple facetimes. Apparently, you were the one to come to with routine questions. He thought it was amazing, how you could take a song and within two days have a mostly completed routine laid out, he would never be that creative. But between coaching, working on your skating, and running to dress fittings at a shop you found in Denver, he had never seen you look so worn out. Nate was worried that if Ashley pushed a button correctly, you would snap. Your smile may be able to fool everyone else, but Nate had been paying attention over the two months you had been together and was starting to be able to read you like a book. Though it was comforting to you that he knew how you were feeling without even saying it; it also put you on edge. You were used to concealing your feelings behind a smile, and with Nate you couldn’t anymore.
The team landed in Dallas the evening before their game, and you enjoyed dinner with them before heading to your hotel room. You were just crawling into bed with the cooking channel on when there was a knock at your door. Opening it, Nate stepped in quickly and shut the door behind him. “What are you doing here?” you asked. When you traveled, the two of you didn’t spend time in each other’s rooms unless someone else was around to prevent any suspicion.
“No one saw me, we’re fine,” he said, placing a soft kiss on you lips. He grabbed your hand and pulled you over to the bed, getting in on his side as you did the same. “I won’t stay long,” he said gently as you rested your head on his chest. His arm that was around you started drawing absent minded figures on your waist underneath your shirt, as his other hand held yours. “I’ll leave early before anyone should be up,” he said into your hair as you both drifted off.
Around 5am, you heard Nate’s alarm go off and felt him get out of bed. He chuckled as you mumbled incoherently and deftly reached for him. “Go back to sleep,” he whispered, placing a kiss on your forehead. You sleepily watched him walk to the door and peak his head out, giggling at his large figure trying to be sneaky as he made his way out.
~ ~ ~
This was not happening. This wasn’t supposed to happen. Who does interviews before anything happens! You absentmindedly grabbed the figure skate charm on your necklace and bit your lip. You had just been told that you would be doing a pre-game interview. That wasn’t what was bothering you though. What was bothering you was that you would be doing the interview with Ashley. You knew someone had happened across your not so friendly history and planned this because you have never done an interview with any of the other skating coaches.
You were ushered to the area and sat down in front of a microphone when you were announced. Ashley walked in after, smiling brightly at you. You returned it, quickly snapping into performance mode. At first the questions were fine; how did you like being with your team, how were things going, did you miss skating yourself. Then the question came of how do you think your team will do in the game tonight. Ashley, being asked first, put on a brilliant smile that made you want to role your eyes. God she was so fake. “I think we’ll do great! I know how Y/N skates and I have prepared them for it. The Stars are a great team so we shouldn’t have a problem.” You kept your smile light, trying your best not to roll your eyes at her. The same question was then directed to you.
“I believe that the team is prepared. Similar to what Ashley said, I know how she skates and it should be a good game,” you answered. You heard Ashley snicker quietly and you had to bite your tongue. This was not the time or place to lose your temper on her. After a few more questions, you were asked to take a picture together. You had been fiddling with your necklace and didn’t pay any attention to it until you realized Ashley was looking at it.
“That’s new. Why is there a 29 on it?” she asked. You froze, but quickly recovered and turned the charm back around.
“It’s the maker of the charm,” you tried to shrug off. As you walked out of the room of the interview, Ashley followed.
“I’ve never heard of them. Where can I order one?” she pestered.
“It’s this little boutique in Denver. They don’t have a website,” you said off the top of your head.
“Well that’s too bad. Maybe you can take me to this 29 store the next time we’re in Denver?”
“Of course.” You both faked a smile at each other as you got to the hallway leading to the locker rooms. Unfortunately for you, Nate had stepped outside to see where you were. The team had seen the interview and you were taking a little long to get back. He volunteered to make sure you weren’t lost. Ashley didn’t miss him.
“What a coincidence, 29 looks like he’s looking for you,” she smirked, leaving for the Stars locker room. You walked over to Nate and started to push him back into the locker room. To say he was slightly confused was an understatement.
It was late in the third period, the score tied 1-1. The game had been highly physical, and you couldn’t help but be on edge. You were standing on the bench when the final buzzard went off, and the game was pushed into overtime. The game became even more physical if that was even possible, and you jumped as Perry checked Cale into the boards in front of you. A time out was called by the Stars, and you glanced briefly over to their bench. As you did, you saw Ashley say something to Jamie Benn, and he smirked looking your way. You saw him then eye Nate, and you had a bad feeling about it. Watching as Benn skated over to Nate, you could tell he was saying something. Nate tried his best to ignore the left winger, and you wish you could hear what was being said. The puck dropped, and as quickly as it hit the ice, gloves were also falling. You watched as Nate and Benn went at it, wanting to hide behind your hands but also not being able to look away. Without notice, you grabbed onto Tyson’s arm as he was the player you were standing behind. The bench was yelling, the crowd was cheering, and you didn’t know what to do. Watching hockey fights on tv or from the stands was one thing; but watching from the bench as the player you were dating was duking it out with another had you frozen in place.
To your relief, you saw Benn hit the ice with Nate on top and the refs scrambled to separate them. What you weren’t prepared for though was seeing Nate with a cut at his eyebrow, blood gushing from it. You unintentionally squeezed Tyson’s arm, and he turned back to you. “He’s fine Y/N,” he spoke lightly, patting your hand with his glove. Looking at him, you nodded and tried to compose yourself. Your first instinct was to run to Nate and see if he was alright, but you knew you couldn’t do that. All you could do was watch as he was escorted off the ice, his penalty longer than the amount of time left in the game. Benn had a bloody nose, and what looked like a busted lip, but that didn’t stop him from smirking over at you. You watched as Ashley tried to hide a laugh, and you were thankful that the game was about to resume or else you may have yelled something you shouldn’t. Unfortunately, a man down with Nate off the ice, the Stars scored first, effectively winning the game.
You were waiting outside the medical room wanting to see Nate as the Avs started to spill out of the locker room and head for the bus. You were in your own head, blaming yourself for the loss when you heard someone walk up to you. Looking up, you saw Tyson with a concerned look on his face. “You know he’s fine right? They probably just have to stitch up his eyebrow if anything,” he said, trying to judge your reaction.
“I feel like it’s my fault,” you whispered, tears starting to blur your vison.
“What do you mean? None of this is your fault Coach,” Tyson responded, confused as to why you were blaming yourself.
“I think he got in the fight because of me; because stupid Ashley can’t keep her mouth shut. And then we lost because we were a man down and it’s all my fault,” you swiped at a pesky tear that had fallen. Tyson wasn’t sure what to do, not entirely understanding why you were taking the loss so personally. They had lost a few times before and he didn’t think you had been this effected by it.
“You’re losing me. Why would Nate’s fight be your fault?” As Tyson finished his question, you grabbed the charm on your necklace and flipped it over to show him. You saw the moment his confusion turned into realization at what the ‘29’ was referring to. “Wait you and Mac?” he whispered, eyes wide and smile threatening to show. You nodded. “I knew it! Since when?”
“Since the home opener. But we’re keeping it quiet so you need to calm down right now!”
“Does anyone else know?” he asked, trying and failing to compose his face.
“Only Gabe and Andre on the team. Mel knows, and my best friend Jeremy knows, plus our parents but that’s it.” You said, then remembered why you were having this conversation to begin with. “But now I think Ashley knows, at least she guessed when she saw my necklace which is why this is all my fault. I shouldn’t have been playing with it which drew her attention to it and it landed on the wrong side.” You wiped angrily at another tear that fell, annoyed. You had always been a crier when you were mad though; it was how you dealt best with the emotion. Tyson went to comfort you as the door behind him opened. You looked around him and saw Nate, with the outlines of an apparent black eye and medical tape over fresh stitches over his right eye on his eyebrow ridge. You rushed around Tyson and wrapped your arms around Nate’s sternum, hugging him not caring that he hadn’t showered yet. He held you with one arm, his stuff in the other as he looked at Tyson who was smiling like an idiot.
“See you two lovebirds on the bus,” the younger man saluted and walked off. Nate stared after him confused for a second, but then seeing no one was around he bent down and planted a kiss on top of your head. You separated from him, looking up into his blue eyes.
“I’m so sorry if this is because of me,” you whispered, not bothering to stop another tear that had fallen.
“It’s fine baby. Does Josty know about us?” Nate asked, wiping a tear with the pad of his thumb. It was a risk, being this close in public. But he hadn’t seen you cry before, and he wanted to be near you after what Benn had said on the ice. You nodded and grabbed his hand, noticing he had also split one of his knuckles.
“I was freaking out because Ashley saw the 29 on my necklace and I think she figured it out and said something to Benn. I feel like it’s my fault we lost and I ended up telling Tyson.” You were looking down at your hands, then looked back up to him, your heart clenching at how concerned he looked when it should have been the other way around. “Why did you get in the fight?” you asked softly.
“It doesn’t matter. It’s not your fault though. We’re a team Y/N, all of us. I screwed up and let what Benn said get to me. If it is anyone’s fault we lost, it’s mine,” Nate shook his head as you opened your mouth to protest. He really did not want to tell you what Benn had said as it had all been in regards to you. He had been vulgar, and Nate snapped. Giving your hand a slight squeeze, he continued. “I’m going to go change. Why don’t you get to the bus and I’ll see you in a bit okay?” You nodded, and Nate watched as you walked away. Though he was upset with himself for getting in a fight and subsequently losing the game, he would do it again for you in a heartbeat. And as you walked away from him toward the bus, he realized for the first time that he would do anything for you, and you were taking his heart with you piece by piece.
An hour later found you sitting against your headboard, giggling at Andre’s reaction to the Hallmark movie you had playing. He had complained about it at first, but your room your rules. He had surprisingly gotten into the plot, and was yelling at the man who mistakenly thought the main character was with someone else when he wanted to confess his feelings for her. After Chip Gate (what you loving dubbed Tyson and Cale’s chip debate after the first game), your room had become the place the team drifted to. Whether it was to conceal junk food that they shouldn’t be eating, an ear to listen to girl problems, or a comforting environment in terms of a loss on the road, you became the team’s go to person. Not to mention you had motherly tendencies and didn’t mind being there and fussing over everyone. It made you feel even more accepted as part of the team. This is why at the moment Andre was sitting on the floor leaning against the bed, Tyson had taken his usual spot laying across the foot of the bed, and Cale was sitting in the desk chair.
Before you could tell Andre to be quiet so you could hear what was being said, there was a knock at your door. Tyson got up and answered, Nate walking into the room behind him. His eye was swollen and bruising, but he seemed more relaxed as he walked over to the side of the bed and sat next to you. He put his arm around you, pulling you into his side and placing a kiss on your head. “Did I miss something?” you heard Cale speak up and you looked at Nate with wide eyes and a slight giggle.
“Dammit,” Nate mumbled. He forgot Cale didn’t know. This was the first time he thought he could be open with you, forgetting the young defenseman was still in the dark about your relationship.
“Coach and Nate are dating. Now shut up so we can see the guy stop being an idiot.” Tyson responded. “Also Coach, I hate you for making me so interested in this movie,” he complained over his shoulder.
“You know you love it,” you teased, snuggling into Nate’s side. Cale kept going between staring at you and Nate, then the tv, unsure of when this happened and how others knew. Luckily for him, the movie ended 20 minutes later and he started asking questions. You told him how you got together and asked him not say anything because you were keeping it quiet.
“Of course, but why do they know?” he asked.
“I was on the phone with Burky and Y/N sneezed in the background, and Josty just found out today because…why again?” Nate asked you.
“I was freaking out about you getting into a fight,” you answered.
“Does anyone else on the team know?” Cale questioned.
“Gabe, but that’s it. So you are now sworn to secrecy,” you said looking over at him. Cale nodded, and then turned back to the tv. After another hour the three of them left for their own rooms, leaving you and Nate alone. You turned the tv off and turned off all the lights beside one on the bedside table. Nate took his shirt off and climbed under the covers with you, the both of you on your sides facing each other. You ran your fingers gently over his swollen eye. “Do you want me to get you some ice for this, or anything?” you asked. Nate shook his head.
“No, I just want to lay here with you,” Nate grabbed your hand in his and kissed your knuckles.
“I’m sorry,” you whispered, still feeling guilty over his fight, the team’s loss. Nate placed his arm over your waist and pulled you closer to him.
“You have nothing to be sorry for. You were right, Ashley probably did figure it out. But I would fight anyone for you,” Nate said honestly, moving strands of hair out of your face.
“What did he say?” you asked. Nate shook his head again.
“He was being inappropriate to you. That’s why I took care of it,” he stated, and you didn’t ask any further questions. Nate was glad because he did not want to repeat the vulgar things Benn had said to him. He wishes he would have hit him a few more times just thinking about it. Nate was brought out of his thought by a soft giggle.
“You defended my honor?” you teased him. Nate chuckled and rolled his eyes at you. “My hero,” you whispered, pressing your lips to his. Nate returned your kiss, maneuvering himself so your back was flat on the bed with him hovering over you. The kiss became heated as Nate slipped one of his hands under your shirt.
“Any day,” he whispered before kissing your neck. After what became a heated make out session, you were laying with your back pressed into Nate’s chest, holding his hand that was slipped under your head as his other rested on your stomach, holding you close to him. And though you never wanted to be someone’s damsel in distress, with how protected you felt in Nate’s arms, he could defend you anytime.

Amor Prohibido
Characters: EZ Reyes x black!reader
Summary/Request: Like maybe the Mayans are selling guns to another motorcycle club/gang and the Prez is her dad or someone related to her. They meet at a party and get to know each other or something... but her relative tells Bishop to shut that shit down. EZ’s like “Emily who?”, they date (in secret) anyway, but the guys he’s close to in the M.C. tell him to stay away from her. Idk if you’ve heard of Selena Quintanilla but her song Amor prohibido is a vibe... (cliché, i know). maybe w/ angst or smut🤷🏾♀️ and the reader is feisty as hell lol @morena-barbie
Warnings: Smut
A/N: I finally got @morena-barbie request done! And I finally got to write for EZ ❤️ Anyways requests are open! Enjoy, don’t be afraid to comment or reblogging
EZ stared at you from afar while Angel rambled on about Adelita. He hated that he wasn’t holding you at the moment.
“Stop staring, Boy Scout.” Coco nudged him.
“I’m not.”
“Then why are you drooling?” Gilly pointed out, making Angel and Coco laugh.
After the laughs subsided, Angel hooked his arm around his brother’s neck. “I get it, bro. She’s fine. But her dad is more dangerous than Galindo and we’re doing business with him. It’s a bad idea.”
“I know, Angel.” EZ said to appease his brother, but it was too late. You and him were a couple for a little over four months.
The two of you met back at Stanford. Both people of color at a PWI and the two of you instantly clicked when you sat next to each other in English lit.
Even back then you had a crush on EZ, but he was still with Emily at the time. So, you kept your feelings hidden and remained friends, but even that didn’t last long. EZ got arrested for killing that cop and eventually he stopped writing you back.
You two reconnected when you so happen to bump into him while your dad was doing business with the Mayans and the Galindo cartel. What a difference eight years did. EZ was no longer a boy, but a grown ass man and now part of a biker gang.
Your eyes would flit over to EZ every so often, you wanted to be next to him. Currently, you were standing beside Nathan, your dad’s head of security and a constant pain in your ass. Both him and your dad thought you would be the perfect couple, but you weren’t interested because he wasn’t EZ.
“Excuse me, I’m gonna check on the other guests,” you excused yourself from Nathan, Miguel, and his wife.
EZ saw you coming over and the corners of his lips tugged into a smile. “Fellas,” you nodded to the whole group. “How’s everything?”
“Good. The margaritas strong as shit, though.” Coco tipped his cup and finished the drink.
“It’s not stopping you!” You joked, pointing to his empty cup.
“How are you, Y/N?” EZ asked, wanting your attention back on him.
“Good, just a little sore. I did some extra cardio last night.” You licked your lips, remembering your workout.
—
Y’all were on round 3. Round 1 was the pool where you gave EZ some sloppy top and then he eagerly returned the favor. Round 2 was on the kitchen counter where EZ slid inside of you while licking vanilla ice cream from your nipples. Round 3 was on the couch where you both attempted to watch a movie until you backing your ass on EZ ended with you taking a pounding from behind.
“Baby, please.” You were begging, reaching behind you to hold onto his arm. You needed the release. EZ was edging you for teasing him while he was watching the movie.
“No, I told you to quit it and you didn’t listen. I really wanted to watch that movie.”
You looked over your shoulder and gave him a shit-eating grin. “But I’m so much more entertaining,” You clenched around EZ making him falter a bit.
“Naughty girl,” EZ chuckled, his lips ghosting over your back. He proceeded to the fuck you silly. Words were not a thing. He had every intention of driving you wild, making any other man you ever been with a distance memory.
“Cum on my cock, baby.” The flood gates opened; you came all over EZ. He fucked you through it until he filled up the condom.
EZ turned you over onto your back and kissed down the column of your neck. “Can we finish the movie now?” His voice muffled by your neck.
Laughing you turned to the side, so the two of you could cuddle and finish the movie with no distractions, hopefully.
—
“Sounds brutal. Maybe you should go a little easier on yourself.” EZ commented, enjoying he was the cause of your soreness.
“Yeah, my trainer is a real hardass.” Your little téte-à-téte was turning you on and you were about to make up some excuse to need EZ’s help, but Emily showed up.
It was bullshit. She didn’t need anything from you. Ever since you showed up Emily could feel EZ pull away. His attention was never focused on her anymore, but always on you. She could never stand you. Whenever she would call EZ while he was at Stanford it was always Y/N this, Y/N that, Y/N, Y/N, Y/N.
Then at this celebration, the men could not keep their eyes off you, including her husband. Then it wasn’t just your beauty that enticed them, it was your brains as well. Usually, surrounded by powerful men, Emily was used to being the smartest woman in the room. Now she was second best.
You allowed Emily to pull you away, but you weren’t listening to the conversation at all. Your eyes kept drifting to EZ and the rest of the Mayans. They weren’t stuck up at all like the Galindos and Nathan.
Emily soon noticed you weren’t present with them and decided to fuck with you. “Y/N, are you dating anyone? I’m sure any man is lucky to have you.”
This bitch. If it didn’t start a war, you would wrap your hands around her tiny ass throat. For the life of you, you couldn’t understand why this married woman felt entitled to be jealous over EZ. Well, she choose the wrong bitch to fuck with today.
“As a matter of fact, I am.” Your smile grew bigger as you thought about the bomb you were about to drop.
“Who’s the lucky guy?” Emily believed you would lie and consequently hurt EZ’s feelings and he’ll come running back to her.
Your father so happened to be walking by and heard the conversation. You never told him or your mom anything about dating anybody. He stopped to hear your answer.
“Him.” Spinning around you pointed at EZ laughing at something stupid Angel said.
EZ felt like there were a thousand stares on him and when he turned around, he saw you smiling, pointing at him. “Oh shit.”
“What the hell did you do, Ezekiel?” Angel questioned, feeling uncomfortable about the stares he was also getting by just being in close proximity to his little brother.
“Remember when you told me to leave Y/N alone?”
“Yeah, dumbass. I just told you.”
“It was too little, too late. We’ve been dating for four months.”
“What the fuck is wrong with you? Do you get a hard-on for women you shouldn’t be with?”
Seeing Emily’s face was worth it. You didn’t want to out your relationship with EZ until later, but Emily gave you no other choice.
Leaving behind your parents, the Galindos, and Nathan you walked up to EZ, put your hands on either side of his face and pulled him down for a kiss. His hesitancy produced a giggle from you. He was trying his hardest to be modest, when all he really wanted to was throw you against a wall.
Before the kiss could get too scandalous, you pulled away from EZ and wiped some of your lip gloss from his lips. “Everyone listen up, me and Ezekiel are a couple. Nothing or no one,” you stared directly at your dad and then Emily, “will stop us. If you got a problem with that, then you can kindly fuck off. We’ll make sure it will not affect any business. We good? Miguel? Bishop? Daddy?” You asked each man, refraining from saying Emily’s name.
“I’m good, if they’re good. Specifically, your dad.” Bishop held his hands in surrender. He thought it was good that the prospect wasn’t focused on Emily anymore and he had to thank you for that.
Miguel nodded his head in agreeance. Anything to keep Ezekiel Reyes from his wife was good to him.
Your dad knew he shouldn’t have tried to control your love life. Every time he tried to push something on you, you rebelled. He could tell Nathan was pissed to lose you to some low life, but when he saw how you and EZ looked at each other, he knew he couldn’t deny you. “Take care of her, Prospect.”
EZ shook your dad’s hand, “I will, sir.”
You squealed and jumped in his arms. Now no one could take you away from your man.

Doctor Who Series 13: Jodie Whittaker Leaving Rumours, the Next Doctor, and the Future
https://ift.tt/2SweahO
Jodie Whittaker is fast approaching that three-season milestone at which most Doctors pull the inter-dimensional rip-cord and eject themselves from the TARDIS. Speculation has swirled around her, as it does for most Doctors, from the very start of her tenure, and now, more than ever, there’s the strong scent of Regeneration in the wind. So, will Whittaker leave at the close of series 13? And if so, will any of her companions remain to bridge the gap between eras? Might showrunner Chris Chibnall also hang up his sonic-shaped pen? The BBC is playing its cards characteristically close to its chest, so divining the answers to these questions is not unlike trying to unlock the mystery of the Doctor’s real name.
There was an ample reminder of the BBC’s zeal for secrecy when Who-newcomer and beloved Liverpudlian John Bishop – cast last year as companion Dan – was rebuked for revealing during an online Q&A that his character, too, would be Liverpudlian. If the BBC don’t want you to know that a Liverpudlian might be playing a Liverpudlian, then this is going to be a bumpy ride. But let’s strap in, brace for impact, and see what’s (or Who’s) out there…
Jodie Whittaker on leaving
Everyone has their favourite Doctors, and not-so favourite Doctors. Jodie Whittaker is not alone in having had love and scorn heaped upon her in equal measure, a phenomenon that has touched most actors to have taken on the role, with the possible exception of Tom Baker and David Tennant, who stand as almost deified in their respective eras.
It’s clear, though, that Jodie Whittaker has loved every moment of being the Doctor, and of being embraced by the show’s fandom, telling the Telegraph in November 2020: “If you bump into a Whovian, it genuinely makes both of your days. There’s something emotional, poetic and very humbling about being in the show, because you’re a little tiny jigsaw piece of something that is so precious to so many people.” It’s perhaps understandable, then, that her response to the speculation around her departure was to say: “To even question an end point would be too upsetting.”
Or, to parrot one of her predecessors: “I don’t want to go.”
Where’s the evidence?
Over the last eighteen months, rumours that Jodie Whittaker will be leaving after season 13 have been endlessly shared and repeated. These rumours were reported as fact by some media outlets earlier in the year, though the BBC has steadfastly refused either to confirm or deny them. It does, however, seem more likely than not that 13 will be 13’s last; a supposition based upon the ‘Who Rule of Three’ and the unignorable sound of drums gathering pitch and pace across the internet.
In the hunt for ‘evidence’, dead-ends and red-herrings abound. IMDb currently reveals no projects rumoured or in pre-production for Jodie Whittaker beyond her TARDIS tenure, but, then, actors keeping contractual secrets would be fools to release their schedules onto one of the most comprehensive entertainment databases ever to have existed. So no help there.
The Mirror newspaper recently reported that the front-cover of the 2022 Doctor Who annual would be Doctor-less for the first time in its 57-year-history. Could this be a clue? Not likely. The people at Penguin Random House – the annual’s publishers – made it clear that the thirteenth Doctor will feature heavily throughout the publication. So whether the new cover is simply a radical redesign, a yielding to the purchasing power of this era of the show’s vocal detractors; or a shrewd marketing move designed to have the product promoted for free in the press, it doesn’t actually tell us very much about the likelihood of the 13th Doctor’s exit.
Peter Capaldi’s Trouser Clue
We might, however, be looking for clues in all the wrong places. Peter Capaldi deduced that he’d be handing over the TARDIS keys to a woman a few days before the BBC officially broke the news to him: thanks to his tailor.
At a New York Comic Con panel in 2017, Capaldi told the audience: “I went into Paul Smiths, which is a very wonderful clothes shop in London where I buy my suits, and everybody knows me in there. And they said, ‘We just got a call,’ they said, ‘from the Doctor Who office saying, ‘Can we have a pair of [Peter’s] trousers, but with a waist size thirty?’ … And I thought, ‘Well, that can’t really be a man with a thirty-inch waist. That must be a lady then’.”
Staking out Jodie’s tailor probably won’t prove fruitful, though. Knowing the BBC, they’ve probably plugged that potential leak by sub-contracting Jodie’s wardrobe out to a mute grandma living alone in a fortress atop the Himalayas.

Doctor Who: the behind-the-scenes causes of regeneration

Doctor Who: Which New Doctors Are Now Canon?
By Chris Farnell
Will the Doctor Regenerate in 2022?
Series 13 will consist of eight episodes, set to begin airing later this year. The Mirror reports that there will be two specials in 2022, although it isn’t clear whether these will be in addition to this year’s 8, or whether we’ll see a split of 6 episodes in 2021 with the 2 specials being held over for 2022. A special – Christmas Day, New Year’s Day or otherwise – has become the traditional arena for regeneration, so if Whittaker is leaving, it’s likely that her final scene will come at the end of that rumoured second special.
Many think that the greatest evidence for Whittaker remaining as the Doctor until at least 2023 is our proximity to Doctor Who‘s upcoming 60th anniversary. After all, it would seem a shame to bow out before a big milestone, and it could be daunting to saddle a new Doctor with spearheading such a significant celebration. Still, the timey-wimeyness of it all means that even should Whittaker leave in 2022 there’s no reason she couldn’t make an appearance in an anniversary episode, perhaps alongside a few other previous incarnations. And 2022 marks the 100th anniversary of the BBC itself, so it’s hard to imagine that the show won’t be doing something extra special to mark that, given that it owes its very existence and longevity to the broadcaster (Michael Grade notwithstanding). Whenever she leaves, 13 could easily have her cake and eat it.
Will Chris Chibnall leave after Series 13?
When Bradley Walsh and Tosin Cole left at the end of ‘Revolution of the Daleks‘, Mandip Gill’s Yaz stayed behind. Yaz has been one of the new era’s most underdeveloped characters, so it made sense that she would get her chance to shine and grow in a less crowded environment, sharing companion duties only with John Bishop’s newly teased Dan. But as her character and her story seems so intrinsically linked to the Doctor herself, with the promise of more in-depth exploration to come in series 13, when/if the Doctor leaves, will Yaz’s story also draw to a close? Will only Dan remain with a foot in two TARDISes? All speculation at this point, and it very much hinges on which direction the writers take Yaz in this next clutch of episodes.
Showrunner Chris Chibnall – a lifelong fan of the show and, prior to his appointment as big chief, a long-standing writer for both Doctor Who and Torchwood – has been at least as divisive a figure in Who fandom as 80s helmsman Jonathan Nathan-Turner. Rumours regarding his possible departure have circulated with just as much frequency as those surrounding Whittaker. When asked about series 13, Chris Chibnall told the Radio Times: “I do know I’m coming back for a third season. Yeah, absolutely.” Within those words, if you look hard enough, exists the implied absence of certainty around future seasons, but perhaps that’s getting rather too Da Vinci Code about the whole thing.
While the stewardships of previous showrunners Russell T. Davies and Steven Moffat spanned two Doctors each, this doesn’t mean that Chris Chibnall is guaranteed a crack at the 14th Doctor. Should Chibnall leave after season 13, among the writing team perhaps only Pete McTighe – who wrote ‘Kerblam!‘ And co-wrote ‘Praxeus‘ – has the experience to take over as showrunner, given his stint over-seeing the award-winning Australian prison-drama Wentworth.
How might 13’s Regeneration Happen?
Each of the modern Doctors has met their end in the service of some great sacrifice, either to protect a companion or to save if not the universe then at least a world within it. It’s unlikely that 13’s exit will be any different. It’s simply a question of against whom or what she’ll be fighting when her time comes.
Though it may be too soon for the Master to be directly responsible for the undoing of yet another Doctor so soon after 12’s John-Simm-shaped downfall, it’s likely that the Master will at the very least influence the direction of 13’s regeneration. Sacha Dhawan has expressed enthusiasm at the idea of returning, though nothing, as you would expect, has yet been confirmed. Or denied.
The revelations in ‘The Timeless Children‘, controversial though they proved for some fans, are perhaps too epoch-shaking and era-defining not to play a part in 13’s swansong, and it may well be that the shadowy Division – the Time Lord’s very own version of Starfleet’s Section 31 – will be complicit in the Doctor’s fall.
Another question presents itself: now that the Doctor knows she has infinite regenerations, might it make her more reckless? Might she start to see her body more like an easily changeable suit than a thing of flesh and blood? Might she regenerate multiple times before becoming the 14th Doctor, a la The Curse of Fatal Death, and what on earth would we call the 14th Doctor – who wouldn’t really be the 14th Doctor at all – if that happened?
Who’s in the running for the next Doctor?
Many of the same actors tipped as possible replacements near the end of Capaldi’s run have reappeared in the Regeneration rumour mill, including firm favourites Michaela Coel, Phoebe Waller-Bridge, Michael Sheen, David Harewood, Richard Ayoade and the indefatigable Kris Marshall. Joining them this time are Line of Duty alumni Kelly MacDonald and Vicky McClure, and It’s a Sin front-man Olly Alexander. It could be that one of them, or none of them get the call. The next Doctor could just as easily be Jo Martin’s fugitive Doctor, who’s been hiding in plain sight all along.
Really though, as with all things connected with the show at this stage of its cycle: Who knows?

The Prince
2:00am 11th August, 2020
After an age, the door opens to Elysium. The doorman is there to greet us but he is quite ill-mannered. I am hardly surprised – a man such as that, covered in tattoos like a seafarer. He has a particular tattoo on his chest: a V with a hideous slash through it. It is ugly and old and all the ink has already bled out of it. Nanny had tattoos too but they were white like scans and could only be seen under beams of moonlight.
The other doorman is much kinder, but he is not the same as the time before last and I wondered what happened to that one. He informs us of the rules (mustn’t use powers, no violence, no killing, bow upon entering, stand at our seats, bow again…) and we enter.
Upstairs is a picture gallery that I have seen many times before although every time I do, the paint is somehow more flaked and peeling. Paintings line the wall, all turned wall-side save for one. The portrait is of a well-fed man with thinning black hair and piercing green eyes. The inscription reads ‘Leslie Taylor; President 1915-1922’.
Through the large wooden doors at the back is a grand hall with chandeliers above and ornate tables and chairs arranged around the room. A chair, gilded and inlaid with plush velvet is at the centre back of the room. In it sits the man – Leslie Taylor.
He is older than I (although I do not suspect by much), but younger than Mr. Anton, and we bow and pay our courtesies to him. When I met him previously, I did not think too highly of him and I certainly do not think too much of him now. But I was raised to mind my manners even when I do not think I should have to. I am mid-curtsey when the doorman’s head receives a bullet that it spits onto the floor in a gruesome spatter of blood and hot viscera.
Mr. Anton is grinning ear to ear while Miss Larissa looks ready to faint. It appears Mr. Leslie has taken offence to our respects and does not appreciate good manners. I am sure he, like the doorman, also has many tattoos benefitting his vulgar character. Although I suppose I can’t be too displeased when the favour he bestowed upon me brought me to Angie.
Mr. Leslie and Mr. Anton engage in some male banter pertaining to their desire for one another, that I’m not in a mind to notice much of. But it seems that the Prince had eyes for Mr. Anton and had wanted him to be a Brujah like himself. We are then released of our sires – or rather, Mr. Anton and Miss Larissa are now free kindred. I, myself, am not like the others so I have no need to be released as a ghost I am free to do as I please.
From the darkness swelling at the corners of the room, a woman steps into the light and my heart feels ready to burst. I run to Angie and hold her hands in mine. For a moment they are warm, but as soon as it is there the warmth shrinks away and Angie slips from my hold and draws towards the Prince. The Sheriff. The Right Hand of the Prince. Angela Taylor. My Angie.
I’d eat those around her to keep her with me but she doesn’t want to be kept (even though she is, just not by me).
I feel Miss Larissa stiffen behind me. Or rather I hear her. Little sharp breaths that don’t need to be breathed. Her voice is hitched, fast, undone. I’ve missed something significant here but I’m too caught up in everything that’s being wrenched away from me that I don’t notice her clearly.
The Prince informs the other two that they have full feeding rights and have obtained the right of domain. However, they must still answer to him.
*Scribbled drawing of Australia with notes: Melbourne (Camarilla) under siege – 100 to 150 vamps, Perth – Anarchs, Brisbane – Shovel Heads, Sydney – Free vamps, Canberra – Hunters (2nd inquisition?), Adelaide – Ming Xiao*
*A note in a different hand*
Rules:
Breed – ask him
Serve – with a smile
Leave – no
Don’t contact unless important for Melb.
See council members or relevant Primogen.
After our meeting with the Prince, we are taken to the Chancellor’s ballroom. Although the room is grand, it is in poor shape. I suspect the kindred in the room are from lesser breeding as they are seated at tables and chairs which can be folded down and none of them seemed particularly pained about the fact.
They are the Primogen Council:
Nathan Carroll – Ventrue Ronnie Connor – Malkavian Victoria Cruise (brunette) – Toreador Dr. Elizabeth Perez – Tremere (head of the Chantry) Daniel Williams – Nosferatu Annie Chester (distasteful blue mohawk and male jeans) – Gangrel
We are instructed to sit (although I would rather die than sit, but I suppose I have already passed over, just not quite entirely). I start to feel my head grow hot with fatigue and I reach out for Miss Larissa so that her pale warmth might give me strength.
The council deem the completion of our task as ‘suitable’, considering the three corpses washed up on the shoes of the Yarra (perhaps next time we should clean up slightly further away?). As a token reward, Mr. Anton is given $20,000 and encouraged to direct his avarice to things more kindred in nature rather than material possessions. We are collectively awarded the property at 100 Victoria Street of which we may take residence and the few blocks it occupies around it.
A wretched sight if I ever saw one, Mr. Daniel the Nosferatu Primogen approaches as and requests our presence at his Waterfront City Office at 11:00pm sharp. We are to knock on the maintenance door to gain entry. In return we may collect a minor boon from him.
Thus ends our affairs at Elysium. The car is waiting downstairs for us, and the journey home is reasonably shorter than the journey there.
Once we are home, we spy a man hovering around the entrance to our haven. I have not seen him before although I have encountered his ilk. He is dressed in black with red accents. The pin on his shirt – a sword piercing the sun – is the most obvious tell. He flicks his brownish, reddish eyes to us and greets us with a white toothed missionary’s smile.
He is Bishop Judas, from a nearby congregation. If we are so inclined we may join him in worship Wednesday evening, 2 hours after sundown at the old church (on the corner of Bourke & Exhibition St).
It has been a long time since I have paid my respects to the Lord, and when I finally pass on I know I will come to greet him in my eternal slumber. But I have met Sabbat like Bishop Judas, and I’ve seen their devilry and dark ministry and I’ve no inclination to pray with fiends such as them. Or so says Angie, and nanny too if she were here.
We are polite but vague in our acceptation of his invitation. Hopefully he won’t trouble us further.
Inside, I put the body of the ex-doorman in the cooler and head upstairs to bed.

A response to Ed Smart is gay
Elizabeth Smart became well known because she was kidnapped from her home, raped & forced to live as if married to her kidnapper, and rescued. She helped educate the church against dangerous ways against teaching the Law of Chastity, like being a piece of chewed gum, because those very lessons made her feel she was worthless because she’d been raped and no one would want her.
Ed Smart is her father. While I understand that he’s been out to his family and to others for several years, he wrote a Facebook post to extended family & friends to come out to them. Because of who his daughter is, his coming out has been reported in the Utah newspapers.
Nathan Kitchen is the president of Affirmation. He wrote a response that I’m sharing below.
———————————————————————
I have remained silent about the Ed Smart article first published in the Deseret News, because frankly, a person’s sexuality is not newsworthy. It is modern-day voyeurism at its worst to gawk at the gay guy making a hard pivot in life. Just because we all got to know the Smarts during their intense publicity surrounding the kidnapping of their daughter, that doesn’t bestow upon us the right of familiarity with the Smart family.
The Smarts deserve their privacy as they make difficult decisions together. There are no sides here. Only a family trying to make sense of decisions made on the best information they had decades ago. Make no mistake about it, I want to be perfectly clear: both Ed AND Lois Smart are victims of homophobia. It is a deep homophobia etched into the very genetics of society and our institutions.
What we need to do, instead of focusing on a sensational story, is instead laser focus on the prejudices and misconceptions about sexual orientation, gender identity and expression. Eliminating those prejudices and misconceptions is in everyone’s interest. Eliminating homophobia and transphobia is not only essential for the health and well-being of LGBTQ+ individuals and their families, it is essential for the health and well-being of institutions, society, and culture at large.
However, I do think this entire situation brings up a very valid point that is game to talk about.
Ed expressed that in this coming out “the church is not a place where I find solace any longer.” I affirm Ed’s personal feelings on the matter. This reflects his experience and I will never qualify, question, or deny the experiences of any of my LGBTQ+ siblings. This statement does us all a favor by starting a conversation. It invites deep reflection and a hard look at ourselves as members and former members of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, both LGBTQ+ and non-LGBTQ+ individuals: Is the church a safe place for LGBTQ+ individuals and their families?
For decades this kind of question was addressed from a very straight-centric perspective, stemming from the overarching premise “What does the Church think about LGBTQ+ people?” Hence over time we received lots of clues about what the Church thought about LGBTQ+ people. From the book “The Miracle of Forgiveness” to today’s Mormon and gay website, the standards of the church concerning LGBTQ+ individuals have been delivered to the members in a constant parade of books, talks, websites, and policies. The problem with this overarching premise is that straight people change their views of LGBTQ+ individuals when they get to know them. So this constant parade of church missives and policies change year, after year, after year as stereotypes are erased and the general population becomes educated concerning LGBTQ+ issues.
As the new civil rights movement continues forward, this continual changing perspective of “What the Church thinks” has become a moving target and tiresome to chase. It has given way to a new LGBTQ+ centric perspective: “What do LGBTQ+ people think about the Church?” This is the healthiest of all premises for LGBTQ+ individuals and their families. It is from this vantage point that we should all approach the question “Is the Church a safe place for LGBTQ+ individuals and their families?”
From an LGBTQ+ centric position concerning safety in the church, we must first acknowledge that there is a “rainbow stained-glass ceiling” in the church. This boundary specifically is marriage equality and the self-determination of gender identity by transitioning. It is the bright line set in doctrine and policy. You bump up against this ceiling when you marry someone of your same sex or transition.
If someone were to honestly ask what could make the church safer and welcoming for LGBTQ+ people, the honest answer would be to affirm marriage equality and self-determination of gender identity. However, ultimately this is an organizational revelation issue in the church. This falls squarely to the Brethren to be responsible for deliberation, inquiring, and delivering a doctrinal change. If there is one thing church history can teach us, it is that it will drive one mad to lobby the Brethren about anything.
So as the Brethren take up the question about what to do with LGBTQ+ members, we all can continue to work together to eliminate homophobia and transphobia in our sphere of influence. And we can do this in very LGBTQ+ centric ways.
Everyone understands that the “rainbow stained-glass ceiling” is there. So when we approach the question “Is the church is safe for LGBTQ+ people?” we need to honor LGBTQ+ people in their personal perspectives of what they themselves think about the church.
We cannot make a blanket statement that the church is not safe for LGBTQ+ people. This denies the self-determination of our LGBTQ+ siblings and erases their perspective. Conversely, we cannot make a blanket statement that the church is safe for LGBTQ+ people because that too erases lived experiences.
When you look at the entire spectrum of LGBTQ+ people in the church or those identifying that they are in the church, you will find LGBTQ+ people who find solace, safety, community, and peace. They have answered for themselves the question “What do I think about the church?” They are not self-loathing, they are not delusional, and they are choosing to live in ways that are empowering to them as an LGBTQ+ individual. It costs us nothing to affirm them in their answer in how they choose to access spirituality and community.
There are also LGBTQ+ people who experience conflict, trauma, suicidal ideation, and rejection at their intersection with the Faith. When they answer the question for themselves about what they think about the church, they do not see it as a safe place to be. They are not weak, lacking in faith, offended, or sinners to step away or leave the church. They are choosing to live in ways that are empowering and healthy for them. I would say that it costs us nothing to affirm their choices to step away or leave, but in reality it does cost. It costs the Church their best and most talented humans in a devastating resource drain from the church.
The thing that people get wrong about LGBTQ+ self-determination is that choices made by self-determination are eternal and unchanging. On the contrary, LGBTQ+ people have the right to change their answer to “What do I think about the Church?” at any time. There is fluidity to the answer, depending on so many individual factors. For example an LGBTQ+ person may find safety in the church until they bump up against the rainbow stained-glass ceiling when they marry someone of the same sex or transition. Others go the opposite direction, and after many years away from the church, they return.
People often get so caught up in a Mormon/Ex-Mormon argument loop about other’s choices concerning the church that it obscures the self-determination of the LGBTQ+ individual. There is not one “correct” way to LGBTQ+. The choice of the LGBTQ+ individual trumps all other judgements of other people.
The new frame of reference for us all is to be LGBTQ+ centric and affirm the very personal answer that an LGBTQ+ person has for themselves about what they think about the church. Anything else is just generic religious proselytizing for or against the church.
So from an LGBTQ+ centric position, knowing the rainbow stained-glass ceiling is firmly in place until the Brethren remove it, what can be done right now to make the church safer and more welcoming for LGBTQ+ individuals who answer for themselves that they want to be there? I have four ideas that can be implemented right now with no doctrinal or revelatory changes. I hope you share even more in the comments section.
1. Have uniform treatment of the LGBTQ+ community church-wide. It is no secret that transgender individuals are treated with the most extreme inequality from ward to ward and stake to stake in issues such as excommunication upon transitioning, attendance of second hour classes, speaking in church, and holding a calling. There is also geographical disparity concerning the management of same sex couples who legally marry. Bishops and Stake Presidents vary widely on youth LGB Issues such as handholding, dating, and even kissing.
It would take almost no effort to find the areas in the church where outreach and the welcoming of LGBTQ+ individuals and their families is occurring and universally train leaders across the church using models already utilized in some of the stakes in Zion. End local leadership roulette for the LGBTQ. We live in the age of the internet. LGBTQ+ individuals are highly aware of this inconsistency and it is troubling.
2. Increase transgender care and education. Much ignorance and transphobia abounds concerning the transgender community in the church. It feels that not much has changed in the understanding of transgender individuals since Dalin H. Oaks made a 2015 statement during a press conference that “while we have been acquainted with lesbians and homosexuals for some time, being acquainted with the unique problems of a transgender situation is something we have not had so much experience with, and we have some unfinished business in teaching on that.”
Simple things such as learning basic trans terminology, using someone’s correct name and pronouns, and changing someone’s name on church records when they have legally changed their name in the courts starts to make a dent in the care of transgender individuals and their families. (Also see #1 above.) We all can and need to be allies for our transgender siblings.
3. Stop the excommunications and church discipline for those who marry someone of the same sex or transition. Just call a moratorium on this spiritual act of violence while everyone is working out the unfinished business. Getting rid of LGBTQ+ people through church discipline reminds me of the harmful words of BYU President Ernest Wilkinson who in 1965 told the BYU student body that BYU did not intend to admit any homosexuals, but if there happened to be a homosexual among the student body, “I suggest that you leave the university immediately after this assembly; and if you are honest enough to let us know the reason, we will voluntarily refund your tuition. We do want others on this campus to be contaminated by your presence.”
LGBTQ+ individuals do not contaminate wards or stakes, they bless wards and stakes. They do not contaminate the children or the youth. The threat of excommunication and discipline creates an environment of fear and anxiety. It makes it unsafe for LGBTQ+ members to come and worship. Take this off the table to immediately make the church safer for LGBTQ+ people. Oh, and take off the asterisk on LGBTQ+ member records that were placed solely to identify that person as being a member of the LGBTQ+ community. That is immoral and wrong.
4. Take the time to talk to and really listen to LGBTQ+ individuals…both members and those who are not members of the church. Do not just seek out those who make you feel comfortable because they are Mormonormative and are like you. See those in the LGBTQ+ community who are not mormonandgay dot org approved gays and lesbians. And for heaven’s sake, stop seeking out the celebrity LGBTQ+ Mormons.
Look for and find the depth and breadth of the diverse and vibrant LGBTQ+ community. Build a relationship and maybe you will be trusted to hear some of the most powerful human stories. Find out what is important to these friends. Find out what hurts them. Listen and do not lecture or give advice. As a guest to their story you will learn of humanity in ways that sacredly expand your view of God and what it means to love one another. Then when they tell you their answer to the question, “What do I think about the church?” you will understand what you can do better to support the LGBTQ+ individual in their self-determination in this very mortal experience to find and have joy.
If you are really interested in making the church safer and more welcoming for LGBTQ+ individuals and their families, root each of your actions in the premise that your efforts in eliminating prejudices and misconceptions about sexual orientation, gender identity, and expression will have a profound positive impact for good for everyone. Everyone. You do not need anyone’s permission to start. You do not need anyone’s permission to love.

Upon learning that they would be able to make a move to save their captured teammates and strike out against the Phoenix Five, the remaining Avengers gathered together to debrief and strategize. They were joined by a few new mutant allies and a powerful but familiar face.
THIS IS THE OFFICIAL COMPLETE CHAT LOG COVERAGE OF THE IC
SAM WILSON: Things were rough. From the beginning there had been an expectation that this was going to be a difficult right, but this wasn’t just difficult. This was the impossible fight that they somehow had to make possible. Everyone in the debriefing room looked beaten and torn like they had seen better days – and they had. But at least they were alive at all. That was more than a lot of their friends could say. There were dents in his shield and a chunk missing from his wings but Sam Wilson was glad to stand before his remaining team at all. “I know it’s bad out there,” he cleared his throat. “More than half our team is gone. But we can’t quit now. We had some information piled on our current status. I know some of you are missin’ loved ones, but we need you to hold out to the end so we can get through everything. As it stands: the Asgardians have no leader. Odinson was taken hostage by Emma Frost and we lost Valkyrie on the moon to Wither. She’s in the med bay along with all of the other infected patients. Don’t touch them for any reason or you’ll get infected too. Prince Ahura is now King of the Inhumans after Namor killed Crystal. Other casualties include Lana Baumgartner and Nathan Summers at the hands of Magneto. Billy Kaplan was wounded by Magik but we managed to retrieve him from Antartica. Wolverine managed to survive a fight with the Phoenix Cyclops as well, but most of our fights against their hosts haven’t gone well. Confirmed hostages include Kate Bishop, Gwen Stacy, Scott Lang, Jessica Drew, Janet Van Dyne, Doctor Stephen Strange and Rikki Barnes among others. Susan Storm was last seen in Latveria but we’ve lost all communication since. We’ve also had some wins though. We evacuated the Hellfire Academy, Madripoor, Subterranea, Tymyr Peninsula and Wundagore Mountain. Our goal was never to take hostages but currently have the younger Scott Summers and Sebastian Shaw in custody. To those of you who have won your fights, congratulations. Our infirmary has filled up faster than we have room to accomodate. I know it’s a lot, but we don’t have a choice in all of this. Which brings me to my next point,” Sam sucked in a lungful of breath. “We have to bring more protection to Wanda and Jean if we’re going to beat the Phoenix. So far we’ve kept their location a secret but we’re running out of options. Carol and I have been talking and we trust you all enough to tell you that they’ve been in Citrusville, Florida. It’s the Nexus of all realities and we hope that’s enough to amplify their powers. Both Jeans and Wanda have been instructed not to leave but that clearly was not obeyed as last night the elder Jean Grey left Florida for Krakoa and hasn’t been seen since. We’re assuming her husband, Scott, has her so that’s one less option for solving this. Anyone have any suggestions?”
ERIK: “Jean and Wanda are not left defenseless.” Erik spoke up after Sam had finished. He had just been outed to the group as a murderer– which was completely true– but he steered clear of that topic for the moment. “The elder Jean trusted me with their safety, but I had not anticipated her departure.”
AHURA: Ahura sat at the table, arm in a brace from a sprain he received from his fight with Sebastian Shaw, who was currently held in his custody. He had his father and fallen king on one side and his cousin’s lead guard on his left. He did his best not to hold judgement on Dante for what happened to his cousin. “I understand stand that we’ve been trying to keep this as isolated and small scale as possible but I think we’ve all learned that’s not an option.” The new king spoke up. He was beginning to grow tired of Magneto and how everything appeared to revolve around Jean Grey to him, therefore he made it the center of everyone’s attention. “This is a war so let’s treat it like one. I have two armies currently at my disposal along with the most advanced inhuman technology, and I assure you both are eager to avenge their queen and those who died during the attack on Atillan. I’m sure the proud warriors of New Asgard feel the same and just seek a figure to lead them. What I’m saying is that it’s time for drastic measures and full scale offenses less we end up like the other half of our comrades.”
RIRI: “We were trying to do something.” It was the first time that Riri had left her room in over a week. She worked better alone and time kept slipping by. “Originally it was the create a vacuum to suck the Phoenix from its hosts. Still the plan, but we’re also trying to triangulate the locations of those who are missing. The mutants have to be holding them somewhere. Between all your murdering you didn’t happen to hear anything useful did you, Magneto?”
ERIK: “Not so much.” Erik winced, but his expressions remained steady. “There was not much chance of rumors reaching me since I was alone on Genosha. I was brought to Jean and Wanda and that’s the extent of my knowledge.”
LOGAN: “I’ll go after Jean.” Finally Logan spoke up. “She understands the Phoenix better than anyone. We need her.” And he needed to make sure she was okay.
CAROL: Carol was sitting near Sam, though she wasn’t participating as much as she should have been. Instead, she was slouched in her chair, picking at her lips, lost in thought. She’d been dealing with the guilt of allowing the Phoenix to possess the five mutants — she’d been trying to be pacifist instead of putting an end to it then and there, like she should have. Like she would have. But Carol had been trying to fill the shoes of Steve Rogers, and that meant going in with a steady head. “We screwed up.” She finally spoke, offering what input she thought was necessary, despite the leading conversation. “I hope you all understand that we have no friends on the other side right now.” She glanced at Erik, but let it pass. “If you’ve learned anything, it’s that they will stop at nothing to achieve their goals. That includes injuring and killing us. If you haven’t put your war paint on already, it’s time to start now.”
SAM WILSON: “No offense, buddy, but if she didn’t come back I’m not likin’ your odds and we’re short staffed as is.” The Captain folded his arms over his chest as he addressed Logan. He spoke once more after Carol finished. “Just in case it hasn’t been said, your majesty, we’re sorry for your loss. There’s too many of our men falling. The Asgardian’s don’t have a ruler but I’m betting they’re willing to avenge their King as well. Us having an army isn’t the problem. They just keep cutting them down. Who here’s gone up against a host? What do we know about what they can do one on one?”
LOGAN: Logan might have sided with the Avengers, but he wasn’t part of the team. He didn’t have to follow their orders. So he tucked the idea of going after Jean away for later. “I did.” He spoke up again. “He kept goin’ on and on about how all of us were wrong, and that the five of them were going to change the world. He was overpowered and overdramatic.”
SAM WILSON: “You and Val went up against Wither, Dr. Brashear. Only one of you is here so we know it didn’t go well, but did you notice anything?”
JOHNNY: "Sounds about right.“ Johnny said from his place at the table, where he absentmindedly toyed with a pen. "So how are we going to get them back?” he looked straight at Sam, expecting an answer. “And how will we find Sue?”
BUCKY: “Why don’t we ask someone who actually took a hostage?” Bucky spoke up and looked towards Lorna, pointing at her. “She was the one I fought in Wakanda. And she took Rikki with her.”
ADAM: “I got the chance to examine Mr. Ford’s powers in great detail. I’d never seen something quite like it. It was fascinating.” He responded leaning in over the table, some of his injuries still remained. “What I did learn is that his powers now cause the atomic corrosion of any state of matter, including in its negative state, down to the subatomic level. In theory he can destroy anything. Furthermore. I trapped him in one of my opaque light field generators I made in order to protect the earth from threats the like of a supernova or world ending astroid and he was able to burst forth in less than a minute.” In truth, adam had never felt so overpowered by an opponent.
REED: Reed glanced between Johnny and Sam as Sue was brought up. But before he could add something to the conversation, Bucky brought something new to the table. “Right to the source– that’s always the best course of action. That’s how we’ll find her. So–” He turned his attention to Lorna. “You’ve been awfully quiet during this conversation. But it’s come to light that you have valuable information.”
FRANKLIN: Franklin was sat next to his uncle Johnny. He was terrified about all of this. If this had just happened a little bit longer ago he probably could have just willed the phoenix into being a pigeon but now his mother was gone and his powers weren’t what they used to be. “I can’t find her. I keep willing it but I just can’t find her.” He said seemingly looking to the others for answers. “I’ve always been able to find my Mom since I was a baby and now. Now I just don’t know.”
LORNA: A call out. How lovely. Lorna had been mostly unsure about whether or not she should come. Word of her father switching sides hadn’t meant much to her. She had been working with Remy more than him anyway and all Erik had been as of late was a headache. If he had his little epiphany or whatever that was his own business. The only reason she was there was the mutants and the fact that they were no longer safe under the Phoenix Five. "No matter what your whack powers tell you, she’s alive. They all are. Even some of the dead ones. Not all of them, mind you. We can just say that sometimes things look worse than they are. Krakoa didn’t want them to harbor hostages on him, so they got creative. What do you know about the mutant who took Sue out? Her name’s Blink and she’s… Well, she used to a good friend of mine before this. Definitely not the type to teleport the air out or someone’s lungs like she did your mother.”
TOMMY: Tommy couldn’t handle looking at his dumb face any longer. Erik killed them and he was just supposed to sit here and act like everything was kosher. Not happening. Even if it was petty and childish it would be worth it. Time seemingly slowed for Tommy as he began weaving around to the opposite end of the table. Taking a firm grasp on Eriks nipples through his shirt and twisted with gusto before returning to his seat and acting like nothing happened.
GWEN: Trouble trouble trouble. He was trouble. Gwen had been doodling out the hanger battle from Civil War in beautiful stick figures when there was a slight breeze. Cackling slightly she shook her head at the mini speedsters antics while she kept drawing. Half of the Fantastic Four were here and she’d have to lock lips with one at some point.
ERIK: Doing his best to pay attention but also keep quiet, Erik suddenly was caught up in a sharp pain. He winced, taking in a sharp breath of surprise and then laying a hand over his chest in confusion.
HANK: “Quite frankly I don’t care about whose friend they were or how good of people you once found them to be. They’re threats not just to the planet but the galaxy.” Hank finally spoke up feeling annoyed. “I understand wanting to end things peacefully but as Captain America stated, we have no friends on the other side, so let’s not act like we do.” Hank replied as he began fussing with his toolbot as few items came together. “Back to the vacuum concept. It’s promising if it works and that’s a big if. However, there are band-aid solutions that we can use to by time, to name a few, Quantum realm, neutral zone, negative zone and microverse. Banishing even just one there may by us the time we need to perfect a solution and test the effects of what happens to the phoenix when it’s split up between dimensions.” He said ignoring the fact that there was sentient life in most of the places he suggested. He thought it would be best not to bring up the topic of creating a man made blackhole and taking the phoenix five into them in hopes of shredding them to pieces.
REED: Reed huffed in frustration. “The fact that they are dangerous to the world doesn’t need to be debated currently. We need the hostages back.” He shot Hank an annoyed glance before turning back to Lorna. “Her mutation allows her to create portals for teleportation, correct? I’m assuming you wouldn’t bring her up if she hadn’t played a bigger role in this than we are aware of.”
LORNA: “Of course not. And I’m not saying we should go easier on her because she was a friend. I’m saying that that thing looks like Blink but isn’t. I’m no Phoenix expert but if it did that to her I don’t know what to say about the others. Kevin was always a little more rough so I’m not as surprised. He and Clarice are more separate from Emma, Scott and Namor. They’re a team but I don’t think they’re as much in charge. Blink used her Phoenix powers to boost the mutation of Magik. Illyana controls Limbo so together they pulled part of the hell dimension to Earth. Consider it a nightmare realm. That’s where your friends are. Blink and Wither are currently guarding it and you saw what happened when he touches you. Maybe it doesn’t kill you at first but it doesn’t take long to spread completely. If you want your people back you have to get through both of them and Limbo. I’ve never liked humans or how our people have been treated, but too many of us agree that this isn’t the way to fix our problems. We’re making the world worse, not better. The entrance is Cape Dezhnev in the Bering Strait. As for the Phoenix vacuum, well, I think you’d have to talk to my darling big sister.”
TRAUMA: Trauma had been silent just about the whole meeting and finally decided to chime in. “I’ll go… Go to the Hell on earth or whatever you want to call it.” His powers were magical in nature and that’s all he really knew. Between that, his experience with fear, and being able to be the perfectly tailored opponent for any individual it felt like volunteering.
SAM WILSON: "I’m sure we can make a sign up sheet.“ Sam’s voice was wry. "We’re glad you’re here, Polaris. Gambit as well. This isn’t Avengers against X-Men anymore. It hasn’t been for a while. If we’re going to save the world we don’t have a choice but to work together here.”
REMY: “Speakin’ of X-men,” Remy was standing near Lorna as he spoke, hot on the heels of her words. “It’s come to our attention that us mutants don’ all share t'e same ideals as Emma, Scott, and Namor. I know it’s hard as hell to go against people like you in support of people who not only aren’ like you, but also don’ like you, so I don’ blame t'e mutants t'at fought for other mutants, even if it were under Emma and t'e rest. However, Lorna an’ I will be givin’ t'e mutants t'at are left a chance to leave the Phoenix behind. It won’ be easy, but as many as we can get to go against the Phoenix Five will be more t'an we currently have.”
LORNA: Her head inclined towards Remy in agreeance. “We can’t get you onto Krakoa, but we can help you rescue the hostages and let you know what we do. I understand my father has stopped being a raging prick and you have most of the Grey-Summers dynasty as well. Between them and Wolverine you’ve already got an important chunk of the mutant leadership.” Lips twitched at the thought of everyone they were forcing to work together. “So we do our part. What are you doing to stop the Phoenix? If you’re taking the Limbo guards out you better have a plan.”
SAM WILSON: “We don’t have as much of a plan as we should.” Sam admitted. “These last few weeks we went through a lot to keep Wanda and Jean’s location secret in Citrusville, but between one of the Jean’s bailing we’re making exception to our rules. Wanda?” He looked to the door to where he knew she was waiting. “Your turn.”
ERIK: What Erik responded with was almost an eye-roll, but not quite. It wasn’t that he was annoyed with people bringing up his horrible actions as of late, but it made him uncomfortable. “I wasn’t in my right mind. It does not excuse anything I have done, but that part of me is gone now. My mind has been made right again.” He glanced over to his daughter, trying to express how sincerely he felt about it all. “Things will be different from now on.” That was all he had to say for now– and he let the room focus on Wanda and the task at hand.
WANDA: Leaving Citrusville for the first time in weeks hadn’t been as freeing as Wanda would have hoped. Anxiety still knotted her gut and tensed her spine. She belonged back at the Nexus but instead she stood before the war battered group of familiar and foreign faces. It was a conscious choice to ignore her father, knowing that he had made choices she couldn’t condone but didn’t want to discuss. “Vacuuming the Phoenix will only work to a certain extent. I overheard Dr. Brashear say Kevin broke free quickly. It will do the same, and the power will condense itself.” It was hard to explain. Wanda wasn’t a scientist but this was something she felt. “If you go tomorrow to face two of them, send a group after a third. Isolate them. Jean and I will monitor the energy from Citrusville. We need more time.”
CAROL: “So we have two missions then,” Carol interjected. “Rescue the hostages and separate the Phoenix. We will send a team to rescue the hostages, and another to battle the Phoenix. Assignments will come at a later time, but be ready. As it’s been said, this is war.”
VISION: “It’s possible that we could track down the location of a Phoenix Five member.” From his place next to Wanda, Vis took a small step forward to address the room. “I’ve learned that it is best not to bore you all with the details, but there are methods at my disposal that could be utilized. But this meeting has gone on long enough– Wanda should be getting back.”
SAM WILSON: “Of course. We appreciate everyone takin’ time to come out at all, especially since it’s so bad outside.” People had families to protect while they could. “Lorna and Remy will be sticking around even though Erik will be going back to Citrusville with Wanda. Vis, if you could come see me after you drop them off that would be great. Assignments will be sent out tonight about where to go from here. We got any other questions before we wrap up?”
ERIK: “Let’s just be done.” Erik interjected before anyone else had a chance to answer Sam and keep them all here. He glanced back to Vis and Wanda and then swept himself quickly out of the room to wait for them outside.
SAM WILSON: "Your discretion will be appreciated.” Sam nodded his head towards the door. He waited a long moment before following behind. The lights clicked off and the latch turned. They made it through another day. Hopefully they’d be as lucky the next.

@headstrongblake said: [ TEN ] for receiver to collapse in sender’s arms after using their abilities. / alec & nick? o?
who knew what happened to the others when hydra found them, when they were all driven into smaller groups and forced to split up. alec held tightly onto kassy's hand as they followed quickly behind nick, nate bringing up the tail end of their group. bullets echoed through the halls as they tried to escape this labyrinth of a place they had managed to get themselves into. fear ran through alec and he could sense kassy's too despite the way she looked intensely forward. he didn't want to go back and he couldn't imagine his friends being injured, hurt, captured or killed.
c'mon, this way, nick ordered as they turned down a hallway only for them all to come screeching to a halt. alec and kassy both grunted as they were forcefully stopped by nick's arms that went out at his sides. there, down at the other end of the hall alec recognized the man standing there. tall, blonde and those sapphire eyes that seemed like a vacant void. this had been who rev had been searching for, only he didn't look as if he was going to help them. "get back!" nate told alec and kassy as he came to stand beside nick, the two first taking out the hydra agents on either side of the man. they had been armed but he.. wasn't.
"that man..." alec said in a shaky tone, "he's like me, like rev..." he swallowed as the man slowly began to advance towards them in an eerie unwavering manner, he hadn't even flinched when the bullets mowed down the agents at his sides. "he doesn't look friendly," nate muttered, "should we shoot?" he asked nick as they slowly began to back up. the man continued towards them. "stop!" alec called to hunter, "we're on your side! we're with rev!" but the words didn't seem to penetrate. "with ryan!" he tried again but nothing. "he's not stopping...." nate announced the obvious, urgency in his tone as his hands tightened on his gun.
when nick then tried to slow him down, a bullet through the thigh, the shoulder, kassy backed away, "he's still not stopping," she said, fear leaking into her voice as the two men then let bullets fly. hunter staggered once or twice but as the bullets entered him they were spit out moments after, wounds closing. "uh... guys..." nate began as he tossed his empty gun away now. "i think we should run," he muttered before they turned and took off down another hallway. and as they turned the corner they heard what sounded like a pained snarl coming from behind them and what was once a man was now a beast.
kassy screamed as nathan grabbed her and alec's wrist to make sure they kept up while nick fired off his last few shots. fuck! he heard from behind him followed by the clatter of nick's empty gun which wasn't a good sign. go, go, go! the large wolf like monster was gaining on them and it was only a matter of time before the space between them was gone. alec's eyes grew glossy with fear but he yanked his arm free from nate, causing the group to skid to a hault. "ALEC!" kassy screamed as he stood in the middle of the hall.
his heart raced in his chest as watched the beast barrel towards him but he raised his hands, taking a focused breath before using all the power he had mustered up inside him as huge root like vines broke through the walls and floor in an explosion, weaving together into an impenetrable wall, separating the beast from them. sweat beaded down his brow as the vines continued to weave thicker and sturdier until there wasn't so much of a tiny gap between them all. a snarl was heard on the other side when they stopped, locking into place and alec let out a soft, shaky exhale, turning towards the group with a weak smile, hands trembling at his sides before exhaustion hit him like a wave and he fell.
kassy cried out, reaching for him but with nick closer by his side, he scooped him into his arms. i got him, he reassured her as ran to join them. "damn, that little guy did all that?" nate said as he gave a breathless laugh in astonishment but they didn't linger, the three of them continuing to book it down the hall before trinity teleported in front of them. kassy nearly screamed again, gasping in surprise. "oh good," trin began though her eyes went to alec in nicks arms and concern flashed across her face. "this way, you're almost out," she informed them as she turned the corner down the hall.

The Hitchhiker's guide to Cold War Kids
Founded in 2004, 2007 came the song that made me fall in love with them and also lessen the load of 2000's Bleeding Love and Since you've been gone: *Hang me up to dry* :
'Now hang me up to dry
You wrung me out
Too, too, too many times
Now hang me up to dry
I'm pearly like the white
The whites of your eyes'
Deep relationship stuff and all that shit, yet the simple >>I feel like a towel sometimes<< analogy gets me every time.
Also, *Hospital Beds*
'Put out the fire boys,
don't stop, don't stop
Put out the fire on us'
-sad, but never sadly sung. Start of a theme.
(Robbers & Cowards, an album worth listening to, very good for the car, imo)
We're now moving between some lines that one remembers and solid playlist fillers, including the Cold War Kids Classic *Miracle Mile*, which has a slightly dark background when referring to the eponymous street in California which ends at La Brea Tar Pits where a lot of animals died in:
'I’d be alright, if I could just see you
Come up for air, come up for air
A miracle mile, where does it lead to
Come up for air, come up for air'
The success that is uncertain and suffocating, yet exhilarating.
Also the one sweet song you find in every one of their albums, in 2013 it's *Bottled Affection* (Live Piano Version is much better) :
'I let the bats out, we walk through
The cathedral out into the moon
Your flashback is airtight
Like an elephant, never hurt a fly
Mother instinct never gonna die
Alright, stay
You got my attention
All my pain
Is bottled affection'
They really start to sound like Simple Minds (Street Fighting Years is their best album, nobody can fight me on this).
*First* was for some reason a popular music choice in trailers and movies, so it became the one summer song that works for people who don't enjoy summer that much:
'You wanna light it now, the candle from both ends
You get excited, you get excited
Flying like a cannonball, falling to the Earth
Heavy as a feather when you hit the dirt
How am I the lucky one?'
When you feel like you're never gonna be good enough anyway and you fear people's judgment (I know this might apply to the people who lose to you in Magic, Carlonius, refer 'em here), listen to *Harold Bloom* and feel dramatic:
'I’m the acid head homeless man who demands an explanation
Can you be wise if you never leave the room?'
After two years, LA Devine. The songs within that album don't really make sense if you listen to them separately. Well, they do, but it goes into a completely different direction once you go from *Free to breathe*:
'If you're not angry, you must not be listening' over to cheesy fun ish pop bob *Love is mystical* falling from that drug like frenzy suddenly asking *Can We Hang On?* (music video for dance inspo) feeling oh *So Tied Up* (more bishop and music video for murder inspo) but leaving the situation in a *Restless* fashion and coming back *On the LA River* even though you have *No Reason to Run* and how there shouldn't be anything to hold you back, but the big pumpkin in charge won't 'Open up the heavens' (aka the mexican border) and you keep thinking about why one can't get closer and what it was like to feel *Invincible* since you now know Happiness is not the answer but marching with the *Wilshire Protest* won't make LA so devine and friends don't let friends suffer alone, the *Luck Down* everyone talks about and how everyone always wants to be the underdog- all the *Ordinary Idols*- just ordinary because the *Cameras Always On*? The narrator wants to be a *Part Of The Night* (that's the sweet one, btw), they figured out how to be *Free To Breathe* and...
The next time I'll listen to that album it'll be different again.
Now, New Age Norms 1 isn't out long enough for me to properly rant on but *Fine Fine Fine* is the one about not wanting to stay young:
'Yeah, I'm fine, fine, fine
Life is crashing before my eyes
But I was born on the wild side
I gotta let it go
Be with me now, tear up that bucket list
I climbed to the top of Everest
Still, I don't feel no different'
Cold War Kids, sad but never sadly sung, - feels like some sort of small Blues subgenre, very dependant on the lead singer Nathan Willet, performance wise. But overall every member in the band together manages to create a feeling that is not new at all, its familiar but you can't seem to find it anywhere else.

Sailing news: Dylan Fletcher excited to lead Great Britain in SailGP event on home waters
Dylan Fletcher is convinced to help Great Britain win this weekend at home in the SailGP series after breaking the 50 knot barrier for the first time in the F50 catamarans.
The adrenaline-filled sailing series was launched in October last year and sees teams from Great Britain, China France United States, Japan and Australia compete for the prize of $ 1 million (£ 890,000).
Helmsman Fletcher, 31, revealed his pride as the leader of Great Britain's SailGP team in home waters and felt the young competition had the potential to attract a large audience.
The team participates in the inaugural edition of the global six-team sailing competition
He said: “It is incredible to sail these boats around the Solent, to be the coolest boats in the world sailing for a home crowd is pretty spectacular.
& # 39; The first day we sailed to the Needles and there were so many boats on the water and every yacht we passed was taking pictures and waving and it was really cool then for it first in our own country.
& # 39; To sail such a beautiful boat, brand new with the Union Jack on it, you feel really proud and sailing around the Solent with people watching, it's great and it's similar with that Olympic feeling. & # 39;
The Cowes event will be the fourth of the five events that has already taken part in Sydney in February, San Francisco in Sydney in May, New York in June and ending in Marseille at the end of September.
Due to the strong wind, the first racing day on Saturday 10 was canceled, but Sunday is still scheduled.
Fletcher and his team were accompanied on the Isle of Wight by the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge, each of whom ran a team in the inaugural King & # 39; s Cup charity sailing regatta.
The couple was accompanied by a number of celebrity crews, including historian Dan Snow, England Women's Footballer Fara Williams, comedian John Bishop, Olympic rower Helen Glover and CBBC presenter Katie Thistleton.
Catherine, Duchess of Cambridge and Prince William were on SailGP
Duchess of Cambridge shakes hands with Australian mate Nathan Outteridge (Japan) )
Four of the chosen charities of the h ertogen fit the event, these are Child Be revival UK, Centrepoint, London Ambulance Charity 30th Anniversary Campaign and Tusk, while The Duchess Action on Addiction, Place2Be, the Anna Freud National Center for Children and Families and The Royal Foundation
in which the team finished last, met Catherine Fletcher and his fellow skippers to congratulate them on their races.
The British team got a boost when they set a new speed record for the 50.22 knot (58 mph) F50 catamaran during Tuesday's training.
Fletcher said: & # 39; From the day we knew the breeze was on the light side, but it was still feasible.
& # 39; We had a few chances and by the day we insisted, but it wasn't quite enough until the end that we entered, but at that moment you don't look at the speed you just do.
& # 39; Breaking 50 knots is a pretty incredible feat and we know we can keep improving from here. & # 39;
All races on Saturday have been canceled due to the high expected winds on the coast
In addition to Fletcher in the team are London 2012 470 silver medal winner Stuart Bithell, Athens 2004 bronze medal winner Chris Draper as CEO and wing trimmer, plus grinders Neil Hunter, Richard Mason and Matt Gotrel.
The team is currently in third place in the general classification, with Australia four points ahead and Japan one point behind, after two third-placed finishes for a last place in New York after capsizing during the race.
Fletcher said: & # 39; We were bitterly disappointed to capsize and lose so many points, but still being third is proof of how well we sailed before.
& # 39; I think we want to build on our performance in San Francisco and we've had a great workout this week. & # 39;
Helmsman Dylan Fletcher has been encouraged by the performance of his team so far
There are six teams from Great Britain, China, France, United States, Japan and Australia competing
The British team sails along the Needles on the Isle of Wight during a training run
After sixth place in the 49er class alongside Alain Sign in Rio 2016, Fletcher again campaigned for Tokyo 202 with Bithell, who won London 2012 silver as a crew in the 470 class.
The couple were already working on the Games in Japan when they were approached for SailGP, and Fletcher admitted that they had to make many sacrifices to compete on two fronts.
After being 49er World Champion in 2017, the pair fell out of the medals in 2018 but bounced back with silver at World Cup Series Miami in February and a European Championship gold in their own waters in May.
He says: & # 39; It was a great transition for the two of us to come into this standard of professional sailing at a high level with a large team and it has increased professionalism for our 49er campaign.
& # 39; There is no doubt that we have much less free time than before, we are busier, we have had a few days less in the 49er than before but in reality, since we started sailing in SailGP, our results have only improved in the 49er.
& It is certainly a lot of juggling, and certainly my fiancé and Stu & # 39; s girlfriend may feel the lack of home time.
"I have not been home for six weeks and I have only been home for four weeks, but you must be prepared to make those sacrifices."
Fletcher also collaborates with Stuart Bithell in the 49er in an attempt to make Tokyo 2020
Although the America & # 39; s Cup remains the blue riband event of the sport, Fletcher admitted that he was currently happy in SailGp and felt this format had the potential to grow exponentially.
he said: & I certainly thought about it.
& # 39; In the & # 39; what if & # 39; scenario, if someone asked me to join an America & # 39; s Cup team, finally at mome Nt, the answer would be no.
& # 39; The SailGP circuit and the amount of races that I do is something I really enjoy and although the America & # 39; s Cup has so much heritage and prestige to be one of the oldest sports trophies , I want to participate in this until I am an old boy. & # 39;

My Wednesday Daily Blessings
January 24, 2018
Be still quiet your heart and mind, the LORD is here, loving you talking to you...........
Memorial of Saint Francis de Sales, Bishop and Doctor of the Church (Catholic Observance)
Lectionary: 319, Liturgical Year B
First Reading: 2 Samuel 7: 4-17
That night the LORD spoke to Nathan and said: "Go, tell my servant David, 'Thus says the LORD: Should you build me a house to dwell in? I have not dwelt in a house from the day on which I led the children of Israel 319 out of Egypt to the present, but I have been going about in a tent under cloth. In all my wanderings everywhere among the children of Israel, didI ever utter a word to any one of the judges whom I charged to tend my people Israel, to ask: Why have you not built me a house of cedar?'
"Now then, speak thus to my servant David, 'The LORD of hostshas this to say: It was I who took you from the pasture and from the care of the flock to be commander of my people Israel. I have been with you wherever you went, and I have destroyed all your enemies before you. And I will make you famous like the great ones of the earth. I will fix a place for my people Israel; I will plant them so that they may dwell in their place without further disturbance. Neither shall the wicked continue to afflict them as they did of old, since the time I first appointed judges over my people Israel. I will give you rest from all your enemies. The LORD also reveals to you that he will establish a house for you. And when your time comes and you rest with your ancestors, I will raise up your heir after you, sprung from your loins, and I will make his Kingdom firm. It is he who shall build a house for my name. And I will make his royal throne firm forever.
I will be a father to him, and he shall be a son to me. And if he does wrong, I will correct him with the rod of men and with human chastisements; but I will not withdraw my favor from him as I withdrew it from your predecessor Saul, whom I removed from my presence. Your house and your kingdom shall endure forever before me; your throne shall stand firm forever.'" Nathan reported all these words and thisentire vision to David.
Responsorial Psalm: Psalm 89: 4-5, 27-28, 29-30
"Forever I will maintain my love for my servant."
Verse before the Gospel:
Alelluia, Alelluia
"The seed is the word of God, Christ is the sower; all who come to him will live forever."
Alelluia, Alelluia
Gospel Reading: Mark 4:1-20
On another occasion, Jesus began to teach by the sea. A very large crowd gathered around him so that he got into a boat on the sea and sat down. And the whole crowd was beside the sea on land. And he taught them at length in parables, and in the course of his instruction he said to them, "Hear this! A sower went out to sow. And as he sowed, some seed fell on the path, and the birds came and ate it up. Other seed fell on rocky ground where it had little soil. It sprang up at once because the soil was not deep.
And when the sun rose, it was scorched and it withered for lack of roots. Some seed fell among thorns, and the thorns grew up and choked it and it produced no grain. And some seed fell on rich soil and produced fruit. It came up and grew and yielded thirty, sixty, and a hundredfold." He added, "Whoever has ears to hear ought to hear."
And when he was alone, those present along with the Twelve questioned him about the parables.
He answered them, "The mystery of the Kingdom of God has been granted to you. But to those outside everything comes in parables, so that they may look and see but not perceive, and hear and listen but not understand, in order that they may not be converted and be forgiven."
Jesus said to them, "Do you not understand this parable? Then how will you understand any of the parables? The sower sows the word. These are the ones on the path where the word is sown. As soon as they hear, Satan comes at once and takes away the word sown in them. And these are the ones sown on rocky ground who, when they hear the word, receive it at once with joy. But they have no roots; they last only for a time. Then when tribulation or persecution comes because of the word, they quickly fall away.
Those sown among thorns are another sort. They are the people who hear the word, but worldly anxiety, the lure of riches, and the craving for other things intrude and choke the word, and it bears no fruit.
But those sown on rich soil are the ones who hear the word and accept it and bear fruit thirty and sixty and a hundredfold."
**Meditation:
Why did Jesus speak to people in parables? Like the rabbis of his time, Jesus used simple word-pictures, called parables, to help people understand who God is and what his kingdom or reign is like. Jesus used images and characters taken from everyday life to create a miniature play or drama to illustrate his message. This was Jesus' most common way of teaching. His stories appealed to the young and old, poor and rich, and to the learned and unlearned as well. Over a third of the Gospels by Matthew, Mark, and Luke contain parables told by Jesus.
Cyril of Alexandria (150-215 AD ), an early church teacher, described the purpose of Jesus' parables:
"Parables are word pictures not of visible things, but rather of things of the mind and the spirit. That which cannot be seen with the eyes of the body, a parable will reveal to the eyes of the mind, informing the subtlety of the intellect by means of things perceivable by the senses, and as it were tangible." (COMMENTARY ON THE GOSPEL OF LUKE 8.5.4)
Parable of the sower What does the parable about seeds and roots say to us about the kingdom of God? Any farmer will attest to the importance of good soil for supplying nutrients for growth. And how does a plant get the necessary food and water it needs except by its roots? The Scriptures frequently use the image of fruit-bearing plants or trees to convey the principle of spiritual life and death.
Blessed is the man who trusts in the Lord, whose trust is the Lord. He is like a tree planted by water, that sends out its roots by the stream, and does not fear when heat comes, for its leaves remain green, and is not anxious in the year of drought, for it does not cease to bear fruit (Jeremiah 17:7-8; see also Psalm 1:3).
Jesus' parable of the sower is aimed at the hearers of his word. There are different ways of accepting God's word and they produce different kinds of fruit accordingly. There is the prejudiced hearer who has a shut mind. Such a person is unteachable and blind to what he or she doesn't want to hear. Then there is the shallow hearer. He or she fails to think things out or think them through; they lack depth. They may initially respond with an emotional reaction; but when it wears off their mind wanders to something else.
Another type of hearer is the person who has many interests or cares, but who lacks the ability to hear or comprehend what is truly important. Such a person is too busy to pray or too preoccupied to study and meditate on God's word.
Then there is the one whose mind is open. Such a person is at all times willing to listen and to learn. He or she is never too proud or too busy to learn. They listen in order to understand. God gives grace to those who hunger for his word that they may understand his will and have the strength to live according to it. Do you hunger for God's word?
Secrets of the kingdom Why does Jesus say that the secrets of the kingdom of God will be revealed to some while others will not be able to recognize nor understand the kingdom of God (Mark 4:11-12)? Origen (185-254 AD), an early church Bible scholar, comments on why Jesus makes a distinction between those who are ready to hear and understand his message with those who are not ready to hear nor understand:
"Sometimes it does not turn out to be an advantage for one to be healed quickly or superficially, especially if the disease by this means becomes even more shut up in the internal organs where it rages more fiercely. Therefore God, who perceives secret things and who knows all things before they come to be, in his great goodness delays the healing of such persons and defers the remedy to a later time. If I may speak paradoxically, God heals them by not healing them, lest a premature recovery of health should render them incurable. This pertains to those whom our Lord and Savior addressed as 'those outside,' whose hearts and reins he searches out. Jesus covered up the deeper mysteries of the faith in veiled speech to those who were not yet ready to receive his teaching in straightforward terms. The Lord wanted to prevent the unready from being too speedily converted and only cosmetically healed. If the forgiveness of their sins were too easily obtained, they would soon fall again into the same disorder of sin which they imagined could be cured without any difficulty." (ON FIRST PRINCIPLES 3.1.7)
The Lord Jesus will give us perceiving eyes and listening ears to understand the message of his kingdom if we approach him with faith and humility and the readiness to be taught. The proud cannot see nor hear the truth of God's kingdom because they trust in their own opinion and perception of what is true or real. They have shut their minds to the supernatural truth of God and his word. Do you approach God's word with trust and humility or with doubtful pride and skepticism?
**Prayer:
"Lord Jesus, faith in your word is the way to wisdom, and to ponder your divine plan is to grow in the truth. Open my eyes to your deeds, and my ears to the sound of your call, that I may understand your will for my life and live according to it".
