Is team Bleck superstitious?

In honor of Friday the 13th, here are some superstition headcanons for each member of team Bleck!!

Count Bleck is slightly superstitious. He used to believe in a lot of the superstitions from the Tribe of Darkness, but after meeting Timpani and learning about life outside of the Tribe he realized that a lot of the things the Tribe believed in didn't make sense. The only one he still believes in is the full moon bringing bad luck.

Nastasia is not superstitious, it just doesn't make sense to her. She does not even notice things that have to do with superstition. She does feel bad for black cats, though. They don't deserve the hate.

O'Chunks is superstitious, even if he swears he's not. He's a bit on edge on Friday the 13th, as if he's expecting something bad to happen even though he knows better. He doesn't pay enough attention to the lunar cycle to notice the full moon, but when Mimi points it out he gets a little bit nervous. He would never walk under a ladder and when he accidentally breaks a mirror he has to try really hard not to freak out. He's also picked up a few other superstitions from being in the army. The only thing he doesn't worry about is black cats. How can something so small and cute be bad luck?

Mimi isn't superstitious, but she loves the ominous aesthetic. On Friday the 13th she dresses up extra spooky and goes out of her way to do everything she can think of to break superstitions. She breaks mirrors, walks under ladders, pets black cats, etc. She also likes the full moon, but it's less of a rare occasion so she doesn't "celebrate" as much. She does wear a moon-themed outfit though.

Dimentio is also not superstitious, but he loves to mess with people who are. On the full moon he will sneakily set up things to go wrong throughout the castle, and on Friday the 13th he only doubles his efforts.

Mr. L doesn't believe in any of the typical superstitions, but he has developed his own. He's got a whole list of things that he avoids because otherwise Brobot is totally going to catch fire again. Half of these things are Dimentio's fault, but L doesn't know that.

MIss, do you remember the Simentio misadventures? Well, I've started playing Miitopia, that can be just as wacky.

Sadly neither Dimentio nor Luigi are the protagonist. You see, at first I've decided to do Lena from Ducktales because i thought it would be funny.

But when came the time to make the second Mii i remembered that i would need to make 9 more cartoon ducks, on the emulator and I'm not that dedicated to the joke.

Anyway God (the actual name of the character) brought Luigi, Dimentio and Nastasia to this world to help this tini cartoon duck to defeat the Dark Lord (her father that i forgot the name) with only the clothes of their body and no coin or magic abilities to their name.

Luigi found a frying pan thrown outside a Inn. Dio found a magic wand "laying around" and Nastasia is hitting everything with a stick. (Luigi's a chef, Dio's a mage and Nastasia is a cleric.)

On their first day together, because they were also yeeted to different places Dio gifted Luigi a Box, an actual empty box, Luigi was moved.

The morning of the next day Luigi told Dimentio that he didn't sleep well because he talks, loudly, in his sleep, according to Luigi, he kept saying "It's going to be ok" over and over.

When they fight together if they aren't praising eachother every turn they are helping eachother, and i think that's so sweet.

Speaking of fighting, Dio is as frail as a wet paper bag. He's also Dio. Like there was a boss fight where he got hit by a slime and got down to half HP, and he was going to be hit by the boss, but Luigi took the hit for him, Nastasia tried to heal him and he said "no thanks I'm fine >:c" in the same turn Luigi went like "come on dude, here's some special healing food" and he was like "omg, that's delicious, thanks a bunch <3" then he got one hit by the boss who did 20 damage for his 15 max HP the next turn. (That's when i got the tutorial to the life sprinkles)

Also, can you believe that he knows a move that can one hit everything that hit everything, but allies, and he refuses to use it? He also knows lightning and it's his favourite move (or maybe it's Luigi's favourite, because 95% of the time he uses it, Luigi assists it)

Luigi on the other hand is hard carrying everyone. He heals double of what Nastasia heals and he does an equal amount of damage as Dimentio, the assigned hitter. When Dimentio (or anyone, but only Dimentio gets the chance) praises him, he gets a damage boost too.

But Nastasia is not just there. She have a ability that let her one hit anything she wants. She doesn't want to that much :v but there's nothing i can do. The quote that she says when she kills a enemy is "And Fuck you."

Anyway, Dio and Nastasia doesn't stop bickering. It's hilarious. He commented that there's a hole in his shoe and she told him to "cease complaining" he said that his legs will hurt when i press the run button and she told him something like yeah sure. She once told he wants a cat and he said after a bit i want i dog. (Luigi told me too for both, he's precious)

Nastasia got into a fist fight with Lena the cartoon duck btw. It was a random event that got both mad at eachother.

Sorry for babbling. But it's wacky and very fun. (Btw, do you have any ideas for the killing quote for Dio?)

Our OMORI introjects do something that Kind of counts as a quirk where they type certain nouns like THIS , @chaos-chara and @krismasdreemurr will start their text with * ,ENA tends to type in all uppercase then all lowercase and sometimes Normally with perfect puntuation. @ferns-treehouse sometimes uses 🏵 instead of O, |||Kid types like this||| ,Lake has a lot of quirks. Truly too many to count. They always are changing too. #no sense of identity ♡, @god-7o7 tends to use most of the quirks from his source and @fuckyouforever2023 types in all caps 99% of the time!

i love how much she has in common with the count. that self destructive streak especially is fascinating in a character whose past isn't explored as fully as the count's. what led her there?? she pines after a guy she can never have. she compares herself to a woman she never met and holds on the highest pedestal (just as the count holds her on a pedestal). she puts herself in these situations where she'll never win, even beyond the prophecy! it's something i can relate to, as much as i hate to admit it.

and then at the end when she says she finally understands how the count felt- ouchies!!! now they have even more in common...

i love all the ways she's a villain beyond having powers that lend themselves well to villainy. and in the end, they're just character flaws. flaws that can be overcome and healed from. just like everyone else.

ive already talked about kenneth and flora BUT! runner up is cera i think. i haven't seen her in a million years but that's okay. i think she's incredibly fucked up and i want to get her #OUT of her mental and also physical ice prison.

im preddyyyyyyy sure rn that angie is a fucked up cursed version of anju, but as "angie" she still made a servant. it just happens to be in the image of cella- taking some of her likeness & kind of her name- because even deep down the fragments of anju in angie still cares for cella. but i dont actually know. i think her dedication to angie is super fucked up and interesting though. angie doesn't care whether her meat homunculus made of illegal magic lives or dies, but cera is also so incredibly willing to lay down her life for her boss that somehow it works out. well. hopefully it stops working out bc i want cera to be able to live for herself but. AH! not much to say since it all happened like six chapters ago now sicne anyones even thought of cera but i still spin her aorund in my brain bc she's epic as hell. my friend said her ace was a morpeko :(((( thats so CUTE!!!

2. least favorite character[s]

i don't like saki or karen. what do you do when a character for most of their screentime is intended to be comedic relief and then you just don't find them funny. i feel like such a nerd but i just don't think they have jokes and theres not much else to like about them ToT at least as it stands. idk. even then i'll still draw both of them no problem i am not exactly a professional at disliking characters. my main issue with them is that they don't appeal to my sense of humor and if i'm drawing & writing them they do. so. problem solved?

erick is also kind of up there but he stays in his lane over in poison type gearen city [forgot the actual name] so he doesn't bother me as much. plus he has cat ears so he gets bonus points.

patty & cera have they ever talked? NO! have they ever talked about each other? NO! in a hypothetical situation, would it be kind of cute? YEAH!

for ones that r actually on screen though. i loveee neved & nastasia. even if it was just 1 conversation, i love their dynamic. the two most mature [AUTHORS NOTE: does not mean they are mature. just means they are not zetta geara or madelis] xen members havin a little chat and i'm TUNED IN!!!! and their shared affection for ren is so cute. they both know it's a bad idea and they BOTH tell each other it's a bad idea, and then immdiately just go Anyways, because they r BOTH going to continue caring about ren anyways. whateverrr. i think it's cute.

florin and flora you're so. i talk about them too much. florin disowning flora after finding out she's in bladestar is soooo. oh my goodness! and then trying to get her the death penalty too!!! i think about how after florin says that he just wishes flora would trust him more- that he's there for her, if only she'd let him be- flora says THIS

its so. god dude. i feel like it's not just that flora was leading bladestar, but selfishly- florin cares more about the fact that flora never told him about it. and its soooo. oh my god. both of them care[d] about the other so much but are far too fucked up to ever be able to show it. flora feels like she's the only one who can ever get her job done- especially after rune turned her down- and she wants to keep florin SAFE by keeping him out of everything. and florin just wants to BE THERE for his SISTER!!! without understanding until darchlight cave why she's making it so difficult to!!! god!!! it's so evil how many times things could've gotten better and how many chances flora had to just let her brother love her and how every single time she refuses and florin gets pushed a little closer to the edge of a metaphorical cliffside. me when im in a lack of communication challenge and my opponent is flora who thinks letting her brother think she hates him and actively trying to get him to hate her is the simplest way to handle things. i hate rejuv

Do you ever happen to ponder what the writers' room must have been like for Super Paper Mario? "Yeah, you know our main Wahoo go-lucky happy Mario protagonist? Yeah, well, let's make a game where he isn't relevant at all, make it touch relatively dark themes and we make my intricate and deep teenage Original Characters the real main characters with an extremely intricate plot that you wouldn't expect any game of the brand we are known for to have"

The game is so...Jarringly out of place, it's...Fascinating-

Nintendo has a few of these very large art books (Eg. Zelda and Mario Odyssey) where they go over all of the development work, conceptual stages, writer material in excruciating detail- It would be amazing if there were one of those for this particular game-

It's a shame that there isn't a lot of beta material released for this title other than some early Nastasia sprites, early animations (eg. The Dimentio Walking one and the Super Dimentio unused mouth animations) and Flip Folk character designs (And of course the early cat build) I can imagine a lot of work was put into the game's writing- I find the geometric designs to be extremely fascinating for multiple reasons too, symbolically and visually, but that's a discussion for another day. Are there other beta materials I seem to be missing?

Oh my god I think about this SO MUCH. Like. One, how did they come to the conclusion this story is what they’re gonna go with, and two, how did it get approved? I’ve heard SPM be described as a “bad fanfiction,” and honestly, take “bad” out and I agree. This game strays so drastically from the norm that it does feel like a fanfiction (in the best way possible). I wonder how much DIDN’T get approved that is now lost to time.

I’ve been on many hunts for any beta content, but all I can find that is reliable is stuff from The Cutting Room Floor. It honestly upsets me. I feel like this game deserves an art book regardless of whether or not I personally wanted one. The design of SPM is incredibly creative and one of the first of its kind. The character and level designs themselves (because they really are unique), the constant references to technology in an era where it was becoming increasingly more apart of every day life, and the thought process behind implementing 3D into a 2D space are all things I want to know the details behind SO badly. Of course art is important in every video game, but in the Paper Mario series, the game almost revolves entirely around the art and design choices, and SPM is no exception. I would also go even more crazy for a book or even any information at all about the writing process, but I’m not sure how much of that has survived. I wouldn’t be surprised if most of it has to come from the writers’ own recollections. Hell, who even knows if any concept art is around anymore either, unless they kept it in a filing cabinet somewhere (or, if it’s all digital, they actually kept up with the files).

The cat build is very interesting to me because we have NO idea what it was for. Was it for another game? If so, what is it doing in SPM’s files? Is it for SPM? The “3D world builds” that were also found imply SPM was originally not going to be a side scroller and instead, you’d be able to roam around like you do in any other Paper Mario game. Unless those world builds were for the cats only- which again, were they for SPM or something else?? WHAT WERE THEY DOING THERE?? EXPLODES!!!!! AND YES!!! THE SYMBOLISM FOR THE GEOMETRIC SHAPE DESIGNS IVE HEARD ABOUT THAT SOMEWHERE. GOD ITS SO GOOD . CHEWS ON MY ARMS.

And to answer your question, there’s definitely more beta material out there, but none come to mind at this moment :O

How's the new pm oc going?

his name is Cato and he's a "beast tamer" but not really because Crackle, his beast, is literally just his friend.

yeah i had a convo abt him last night with a friend here are some of the messages

he's a "beast tamer" and he works for Count Bleck

he has a monster cat/wolf/thing-i-havent-decided he's befriended that fights for him, he just likes to be dramatic about it and carry a whip <3 it fits with the circus theme Bleck's crew has going on

Best part: he genuinely loves his crewmates a whole bunch but is a tiiiiny bit of a menace sometimes but inconsistently enough to where he gets away with it. Except with Dimi. he has a very homoerotic rivalry with Dimi. (Havent decided if they're a ship but yknow.) he's also very close with the Count and will take any opportunity to just sit and talk with him, and sympathizes with Nastasia on the front of wishing he werent so focused on his goal.

I think i may just plop them into Chapter 7(?) as the final boss instead of that ice skull thing since really it had no lore, or else replace one of the O'chunks battles with them. Crackle can shift from a small creature form that likes riding on Cato's shoulders to its massive fluffy beast form at will, which usually is at Cato's command. Cato carries a whip but never strikes with it, just uses it for dramatic effect, as his bond with Crackle is so close that Crackle will do anything he asks and understands his commands clearly. Cato is rather calm and actually quite sweet, but his demeanor changes to be more competitive and dramatic around Dimentio as well as the heroes. Cato's name is derived from cat-o-nine-tails, a type of whip, while Crackle's name is derived from the way a whip's sound is usually described as a "crack".

Cato and Crackle's boss fight is reminiscent of a classic Paper Mario battle, with Crackle taking the right side of the screen for her movements. She has a roar that stuns, a paw swipe, a bite, and ice breath; Cato remains on a platform high above, directing her attacks. The intended strategy is to damage Crackle until she begins charging up her ice breath, then flip to get up to Cato's platform and get a hit on him. This goes on for a total of four hits to Cato, before he calls it off and Crackle reverts back to her small form, and the pair warp away. Cato will defend himself with his whip, which does do damage.
