We’ve come pretty far in the last four years.  Would you have bought a mattress from a little 1000 square foot mattress store tucked in the corner between a liquor store and gun shop? Yeah, me neither.  But when starting a business from scratch, using pretty much ever last penny you have, we had no option but make our sketchy location work.  

Often times I think we have a dream, but put it off, waiting for someday.  “Someday when I have more money.” “Someday when the kids are grown.” But the truth is, dreams don’t happen because of the perfect “someday” timing, but because you decided to take a first step, knowing full well it’s going to get messy and having the grit and determination to turn that mess into something beautiful.

Our mattress businesses isn’t now this perfect dream of a location, but we continue to hit the ground running everyday with it slowly being less of a mess day by day and maybe "someday" seeing our small business dream come true. But then again, maybe our business dream isn't about the final result as much as it is about the journey to get there.

We are coming up on the two-year anniversary of the devastating tornados that ripped through our city of Nashville.  While we were fortunate that our home and business had no damage, thousands of people were not so fortunate.  Immediately Josh and I knew that we had to do something.   One thing we really struggle with is sharing publicly the different ways we give.  There are not many things worse, in my opinion, than people giving just to get in return. The Bible talks about when giving, don’t let your left hand know what your right had is doing.  But as a business, it’s truly a struggle.  We don’t ever want to give with any expectations of getting anything at all in return.  With that said, as humans we also love supporting businesses that give back to the community.  And as a business, the more people that buy from us, the more opportunities we have to give.  Maybe some of you can shed some light as either customer or business owners yourselves. With that said, I wanted to share a little more about what as a small business we were able to do. Josh had it on his heart to buy a whole semi-truckload of mattresses to just give out.  What’s really awesome is what happened next. Some other BoxDrop Mattress locations throughout the country heard what we were doing and felt led to come along side of us. When giving, they knew full well that they wouldn’t get anything in return. In April of 2020, when Coronavirus had shut down the world, but the devastation of the tornados still remained in Nashville, my husband, our pastor, and some others from our church started distributing free mattresses in our church parking lot, giving over 100 people a place to rest their head at night.   But the story isn’t done.  In December of 2021, devastating tornados once again hit our region of the country, but this time in Kentucky.  One of the BoxDrop locations (BoxDrop Central City) that came along side of us in 2020, we were able to come along side of in 2021...not because of obligation, but because we truly wanted to help them become a blessing to their community in a time of need.
