Love the contrast between the Americans’ “Apollo” and the Soviets’ “Sputnik.” You got the Americans naming their rocket after a Greek god trying to communicate the grandness and importance of this rocket. And you got the Soviets naming their rocket “fellow traveler.” Like a friend you go on an  adventure with together. This rocket is our little friend lol

Yeah nothing Jason does would work in the real world. Good thing he does not live in the real world. He lives in Gotham, which operates on the logic of Hollywood movies from 40 years ago. Oh wait- perhaps that’s integral context for his character!!!

i'm kind of late to this but i just finished reading the scholomance trilogy by naomi novik and i feel like it is such an underrated urban fantasy?? taking the chosen one trope and turning it on its head with a fmc who has been prophesied to bring death and destruction, who is imbued with terrible power, but cannot even properly use said power to solve any of her obstacles because it would obliterate them and her soul. it takes a tired trope and the idea of an 'overpowered mary sue' and throws it back in your face by showing how all the power and destiny in the world is useless against a system filled with corruption that has burdened you with an easy way out (evil/destructive magic) that you can't take so now you have to work twice as hard as everyone else just to do simple, constructive spells instead of flicking your wrist and being done with it.

sorry but I have to throw in my 5 cents, I keep hearing and even seeing so many clickbait videos about Pianosaurus being a bait and how Mob waisted him yada yada yada and like...? Would it have been better to have him than Baba and hopefully get a better sequence or sth? yeah! did he serve his purpose perfectly in the story from a narrative set up perspective? YES.

I think people don't realise how important of a scene is the introduction of a major character!!! and pianosaurus was crucial for the introduction of Doey! that cut scene gave me actual chills. think about it, not only is it a jumpscare, but we see a smiling Doey show up and offer us help after he just brutally ripped apart a toy of which he knew had a person stuffed inside it .

it shows how unstable Doey is, it places all these doubts and ideas in the player's head about his character, it also shows his strength and just how scary Doey can be, it's terrifying! and perfectly so for a horror game!!

so yeah maybe pianosaurus was a wasted opportunity, because of his cool design, but I think the writers did an amazing job with him and that scene has to be one of my favourites in the whole chapter

thinking about the time my coworkers gave me shit for playing video games again because i just realized how hard it is to explain games to people who don't play at all.

It is very funny in a vacuum that i cant explain how a fucking game changed my life without explaining first that it's full of frilly catboys and that we like gathering by groups of 8 to kill moth god every week. Yes the catboys. They are killing god. With their bow that's a guitar. YES we find this fun. YES it's fun to hunt a few squirrels at level five and yes the very principle of smashing buttons in a specific order to fight is thrilling to some people. Yes we have an in-game economy and i swear it's not boring - listen i WILL craft food there IS a point i prommy. But also did you know that let there be no way back. from that temptation i sunder us. No more shall man have wings to bear him to paradise. henceforth he shall walk. As a catboy

the thing about bungo stray dogs is that it's a seinen and there are clear genre norms I expect from it; this means that I know what I'm going to be getting in terms of women, yet I will be the first to step forward and say that they're very well written. gestures in insane about gaiden & tsujimura mizuki forever. she's one of the examples where asagiri really proves he's good at what he does; tsujimura is a well written woman with a deep layered character and a partnership that is. insane trust + antagonism + trust fall + balancing each other out in a very narratively important way. (stream gaiden forever btw it is. so insane. always and forever gaiden promotion on this blog.)

however. I don't think it's a disservice or whatever to say that similar relationships between women as peers are pretty much nonexistent; the closest we get are age gaps and power imbalances, such as kouyou-kyouka, tsujimura and her mother, which is very different. it's not necessarily a bad thing; it's one of those things where I desperately wish were different in relation to f/f relationships; and hence the various ways I like to play around with fandom. I do think it's super fair to point that out, despite bungo stray dogs being a seinen manga where, again, I do have pretty clear expectations of what the norm will be.
