— nagito would most likely struggle a bit at first since he has never really gotten any comfort whenever he was going through something, but you’re precious to him and so he’ll try his best to learn and figure out how to help you in your times of need. he already knows when you’re in a bad mood due to him being an observant person, but he won’t bring it up unless you do since he doesn’t think he’s worthy of comforting you. he worries maybe you’d view him as annoying for prying into your business. once you decide to tell him what the problem is though then he’d immediately try to help you

— in a way, comforting you makes him very happy, he hates seeing you upset, but you’re relying on him and he’s never really been needed by anyone. he’s able to help you out, ht person he cherishes the most, you’ve made him so happy, and he’s grateful for the opportunities where he can give back and uplift your mood

— he’s an amazing listener, so if you’re not seeking advice and just want to rant, then he’s perfect for that. he’s also really attentive and will take in every word you say, nodding his head or doing some sort of gesture so you know he’s not distracted

— words of encouragement are something he always provides for you, but if you’re going through a hard time then they’d only increase tenfold. he knows words don’t always fix everything but he’s very good at speaking and getting his point across. compliments and motivational words would spill endlessly from his mouth

— he’s aware that being told things such as “it’ll get better” isn’t that effective, so instead of talking about the situation he just takes the time to admire your strength for dealing with whatever you’re struggling with, he’s rooting you on and he knows you can overcome anything, you’re his precious hope after all

— if you want to distract yourself for a while, then he’s up for that too. he’ll do anything you want, whether it be cuddling or going out and having fun

— nagito will appreciate any effort you put in towards comforting him. sometimes you can’t really tell when he’s upset since he’s practically smiling the majority of the time. however, he usually goes silent for a while or he distances himself from you since he’s caught up in his own thoughts, and that’s pretty much your cue to go and help him. he’d probably say something along the lines of: “you’re worrying for someone like me? you really are an angel!”

— after a day full of misfortune, he looks forward to the future since he knows his luck will balance out and therefore good things will happen. that doesn’t mean that it doesn’t upset him at times though, especially when his luck ends up affecting you negatively. during times like these, his self depreciation will only increase and it would help him a lot if you gave him some reassurance: pull him into your arms and tell him you’ll never leave him, and that you accept every single part of him. brush his hair aside and kiss his face too, he’ll be flustered but god he’ll feel so loved

— sometimes he’ll just want to rant about everything that happened throughout his day in detail as he rests his head on your lap and you play with his hair. of course, he’d never ask for that so it would be up to you to initiate the conversation. he also gets in low spirits when others don’t understand his views on hope, a lot of people call him annoying and crazy for that. so if you listen to him talk about it, it would really help him

— when he talks about his past, he usually does it with a smile. he sounds really happy despite all the devastating things that happened. so if you start comforting him, he’ll be really confused, and he’ll apologize for making you worry. deep inside though, he’s grateful you're so kind to him. if you hug him when he’s talking about it, everything will hit him at once and he’ll end up crying, which is very much needed since he just brushes everything aside to cope

Walking out of your cottage, you run into a pissed-off looking Hajime

"Hey, Hajime! What's up? You look like, really mad" you say with a small chuckle, trying to cheer up your tall classmate

"Yeah I'm good... I just went to give Nagito food and... ugh he's just such a dickhead" Hajime mumbles, letting out a deep sigh and shaking his head slightly

"Yeah... he's quite the personality isn't he? I'm sure he means well, in some demented way" you chuckle with Hajime at your remark

"Did he end up eating then?" You ask on a whim to carry the conversation on

"Uhhh... I don't actually know" Hajime says with a guilty look on his face

"I mean, I left the food in front of him to eat! But once he started acting up, I just left" Hajime explains after you give him a weird look

As you make your way through the food you brought over, Nagito and you start to make idle conversation as his complexion starts to regain some colour

"Thank you... I do really owe you one, (y/n)" Nagito says with a small smile, closing his eyes for a second as he chuckles

"No problem... I'd do this for anyone, really" you say, blushing slightly at Nagito's sincerity

"Guess that's the kindheartedness of an ultimate... But not just for feeding me y'know" Nagito mumbles

"Oh yeah? Then for what?" You question, slightly confused by what the blonde was talking about

"I was having a pretty bad dream..." Nagito's face started to lose colour again as he remembered what he was dreaming about, his expression trying to clearly hide his true feelings

"...But you woke me up, I'm really grateful for that! 'Cause of the ultimate (u/t), I didn't have to carry on being tortured by my own subconscious" Nagito says with a wide smile, the crazed look in his eyes returning whenever he talks about hope or ultimates

After a moment of silence as you helped Nagito drink the milk, you broke the comfortable lack of sound

"What... were you dreaming about? If you don't mind me asking"

"Hmhm... my parents dying.... and my dog haha - for the ultimate lucky student, its quite ironic that all that's brought me comfort in life has died, wouldn't you say?" Nagito answers honestly, you can tell from hid tone

You were quite shocked at this sincere revelation

"Oh I'm... sorry to have asked... but I'm sure that you can find new comfort, whilst cherishing the memories of your old comforts" you try to comfort the blonde

The look on Nagito's face had changed from a facade of happiness to visibly real comfort

"Heh... thanks, (y/n). Y'know, I think you're the first on this Island to be genuinely nice to me" Nagito said with a warm smile

You'd thought to yourself if this was the real Nagito - no hope bullshit and crazy demands to be killed, just real human emotion and connection

"You've given me a new sense of hope, in away, you're my hope, (y/n)"

You blushed at Nagito's words, profusely

"Don't.. say stuff like that! People can get the wrong idea, y'know" you look anywhere but into Nagito's eyes as you blush

This little...well at first like anyone else he would trick and play pranks on you. When he first played a prank on you he expected you to be confused or annoyed. He well...he didn't think you would end up crying because of the prank.

Because of this, he ended up feeling pretty guilty about it. So pranks were something he wouldn't do to you. Well, he'd still prank Miu, Gonta, Shuichi, and the others.

So instead he'd tease you! Not nearly as bad as a prank so this would be fine right? Well, it seems not you'd also get upset from the teasing as well. What a horrible boyfriend always making you cry smh. 🙄

But over time he'd come to realize this was just how you were and to keep the pranks and teasing to a minimum or stop all altogether if that's what you wanted. However, in his heart he couldn't stop teasing you he just had to see your cute flustered face!

I feel like Kokichi would at first act annoyed by how clingy you are. But in truth, he loves it oh so much. He loves how you feel comfortable and safe to hold hands and hug him.

In truth, it probably also made him a little overprotective of you. But seeing your smile and just the fact you've stuck with him. Means the world to him and he wants nothing more for you to be safe and happy.

"Huh? Why would want to hug trash like me?" This mf I swear it never stops with him 🙄. He knows you're clingy but he still doesn't understand as he puts it to hug. "Trash like me."

(Tbh he should know the answer because he's your boyfriend!) Even though Nagito says things like this he loves how clingy you are with him. Plus in my opinion, he'd be great to cuddle with just look at that hair! It's so soft!

I feel like if you don't see Nagito for a while or if he's with his friends. You can get pretty jealous and even more clingy! If he is talking with someone you'll go up and hug him from behind.

Honestly, if you were to cry or ever feel insecure Nagito wouldn't allow you to feel that way for long. You're his S/O you're amazing and are such a great person! He'll love you no matter what so don't be afraid to tell him anything.

→ “ could you follow me , dear? ” you asked , clinging onto his jacket and feeling the material with your fingers. you summoned enough honey in your voice to cover up the bitter taste of that girl in your eyes , making sure that nagito wouldn’t know what you were doing till you both were in a secluded area.

→ he knew how scary you could get when you were jealous. oftentimes , he’d thought about making you like that on purpose — but he figured that someone like him didn’t have the right to wrong someone as heavenly as you. this time around was no exception , and he dropped hints of that by shrugging the persistent girl off and simply spiting her quietly ; not that she ever took the hint.

→ he’d followed you through the door inside the empty classroom , which was currently out of use due to the lack of subjects and teaching facilities to occupy it. you’d heard a rumor that it might be made into a students’ lounge or maybe just an outlet room , but either way , right now it was used as a separate area for you and nagito to “ settle things out. ”

→ you cut him off quickly by shoving him against the wall. he shut up immediately , gasping at the rough treatment contrast to your usual , sweet gestures towards him.

“A protective spell, huh?” Nagito mused, leaning closer to you as he wrapped his arm around your waist. “Think it’ll protect me from future tickle attacks?”

He doesn't know what's going on, or where he is, or why Hajime and Izuru now occupy the same body, but he’s hardly concerned. Hajime is smiling, extending his hand like Nagito had done for him. If Hajime is smiling, then surely, hope will triumph.

The scorching rays of the sun reflected along my skin as I sat on the beach. My feet deep in the sand, arms behind me maintaining my weight as I stared over the horizon of the large body of water. This is so stupid, I thought, submerging my body in the sand below me as I lay down. The sand was warm against my back, and the sun against my bare chest felt overstimulated and too hot.. 

“Oh.. Hello Hajime.” I heard from behind me, an all-to-recognizable voice echoed in my head. As I turned my head, I realized my hypothesis was correct. 

“Oh.. Hello Nagito.” I muttered, observing anxiously as the Hopes Peak Academy definition of Luck began to approach me. I could hear the way the sand molded under his feet as the steps were left behind, clearly leaving a trail towards me and where I laid. 

I sat up as Nagito sat down next to me, sitting in the pose I had been before he showed up. Surprisingly, he didn't even fret about the sand getting into his clothes or shoes… I wonder why. I mean, considering Nagito always complained about the smallest inconveniences, claiming they made him unlucky and hopeless, his position in the sand now contradicts his character. 

“You.. Aren't going to change..?” I mutter, observing Nagito turn his head towards me and give me a sly smirk. That cocky smirk he always flashed me during class trials. God it just pissed me off.

“Wow Hajime, just a few days into knowing each other and me shirtless is all you can think about.. How cruel. I thought I knew you better..” He muttered, then turned his head to stare off into the distance. He seemed almost as if he were looking for something..? “Not reacting to my comments anymore. Jeez, am I that boring Hajime..,” Nagito huffed. 

“What.. were you looking at just now?” I asked, lightly tapping my index finger on my forearm. Nagito's head turns, an almost caught off guard stared placed onto me. 

His gaze caught me off guard and I scratched at my arm for a second. “My bad.. It seemed as if you were looking for something across the line of the horizon.” I feel his gaze on me intently, almost as if observing my every move. This gaze is familiar however, almost as if he always stares at me like this. During trials, when he's quiet, he stares at me almost as if he is looking into my mind and body. My soul even. That or even just at breakfast occasionally,  his eyes lingered onto my plate or even my.. body language? Or even when he was all tied up, he had that annoying smirk almost as if he was always 3 steps ahead of me in this game, eyeing me up as I held out the plate of his food for him. It severely pissed me off.

“You're deep in thought right now. Does the view across the oceans horizon make you overthink..? How hopeless.. Despite being in such deep thought, you continue to talk to me as if normal. How lucky can one person be?” He exclaimed, immediately sending me back to the thought process that flows through my mind when he opens up that mouth of his. God damn it he is so annoying sometimes. He is so unbelievably articulate and annoying.

“What? Are you thinking about how annoying I am right now? You can be honest, you know?” His eyes, something about them glimmered in the sunset. There was no shine, yet there was something leading him to continue to sit and talk to me, right? He turned his head and rambled the same self-degrading he always had.

A few minutes into observing him, it's almost as if I found a response. “You know, despite being so.. outward, you're always so concise with the way you speak and hold yourself. You have your crazy moments.. But you always lead me to discovering the truth.. As if you already knew before.” I mutter, rolling the hem of my sleeve under my finger tips. “You say stupid things.. A lot, yet you're always concise and seem to hold yourself well.. That being said, I don't get how others can truly and wholeheartedly doubt you.”

There was a change in the way he looked at me at that moment. As much as the caught off guard look remained, it seemed as if something in his gaze changed. It's as if this was the truth he had been looking for in some way.

“Wow, being praised by an Ultimate like yourself, how did I ever get so lucky? I guess this talent truly isn't as worthless as I imagined.” His arms tightly hugged his forearms, crossed against his figure.

“I'm no ultimate.. If anything, I’m the ultimate amnesia patient because I truly can't remember my ultimate. May as well call me Ultimate-less..” I sigh, shifting my body so I could lay my head on my arms supported by my knees. I continued to stare into the sunset as Nagito next to me chuckled.

There was something surreal about the scenery and moment that just happened. It wasn't usual to have a chat with Nagito where he wasn't going crazy over the little details of a case which meant more than one could recognize. Again with being 3 steps ahead. 

“I’m sure you're much more than that, Hajime.. There is something about your core and Character that leads me to believe there is much more to you than the talent you may possess. Despite your talent, you have come this far without knowing what it is. Your talent didn't drive you to where you are now. It's the hope that's filled up inside of you. “ He smiled, staring off into the sunset. “You try your best to see the wellness in everyone knowing it could be impossible at the same time. That being said, you don't doubt intuition and you're almost never wrong. It's admirable, truly.”

The way Nagito praised me was nearly unsettling; I could feel myself shiver despite it being scorching hot out. “Nagito.. I have a question..?”

“And you’re aiming to ask a lowlife nobody like me.. If it drives you closer to hope, who am I to refuse?” He chuckles, almost obnoxiously at this point. 

“What..? Man, you really are annoying.” I sighed, hiding my head in my arms and legs. 

“Well Hajime..?” 

“What do you really.. Think about, “ before I could finishmy thought, almost asking for a psycho analysis from this psychotic weirdo beside me, I hesitate..

“Think about what? The killing game?” Nagito asked, making me turn my head in somewhat surprise. It usually feels like this maniac is always reading my mind, so when he doesn’t know what exactly I’m thinking.. Catches me off guard.

Casually, I turn my head and sigh. “Yeah.. What do you really think about this killing game?” My breath hitches as I finish my question, and he turns his head, as if noticing in an instant. 

“I think this game is an amazing opportunity.” And just like that, he doesnt 100% surprise me with his outrageous opinions. “Well you’re being awfully quiet..” He chuckles, turning back, catching me glimpsing at him. “You’re paying close attention to me, per usual.. However, you’re staring a lot more than usual. What's going on Hajime?”

“You think I’m easy to read when in actuality you’re wrong, I just wanted to know what you thought of the game, after all..” I redirected the conversation. “ You didn’t entirely answer my question, I expected more detail from you, Nagito.”

“It’s nothing you haven't heard before Hajime,but if you like the sound of my voice that much, who am I to refuse you.” His head tilted down as he stared blankly into the sand. “In all honesty, this game is a bit much.. In a normal circumstance, you’d never imagine Hope's Peak Academy to conspire to be a killing game where we are sent to an island to kill each other. With its ranking and status, you’d expect a different outcome.. However, that being said, this special occasion truly drives out the deepest and most buried conveyance of hope. At some point throughout this game we’re trapped in, the deepest and truest hope within us all is what will bring us together to outpower Monokuma’s forced despair.”

“ So you’re fine here..? You’re ready to accept the situation we’re in at face value?” 

“It’s more than face value Hajime, and you know that. It’s almost as if.. This killing game is testing our hope and faith. No matter what, we’ll all convene and express to Monokuma that Hope always outweighs despair, no matter how forced things are here on this island.” His hair shined under the setting light and his face appeared more pink due to the hue of the sky. The scene in front of me isn't one you can easily replace. It honestly makes me want.. To stay here in this moment forever. If it could only be this way forever.

With a huff, I look up to the sky.”How can you be so hopeful for an outcome you desire when we’re stuck in a shitty situation like this.. Somebody is bound to be murdered soon, right Nagito? So why.. Do you have so much faith?”

“Shouldn’t I be asking you about that, Hajime? You’re the one who will always choose to doubt so you can believe rather than doubt off of pure intuition. You have faith in the students around us knowing one of us could be dead tomorrow morning.” Nagito proposed. “ Not to mention, the reason I have faith is because of my luck.. When looking at my talent, it’s seen as some low leveled talent compared to the rest of you. However, with my talent, much bad has to conspire in order for hope and luck to shine through. I mean getting that lottery ticket and it being the winning one despite being kidnapped.. There is always going to be despair, but my luck has seemed to benefit both me and others. I think.. My hope is what’s helped me live this long, despite my medical conditions.”

“ I see.. Well, hopefully that talent of yours pulls through.. Despite it sounding bad, we do depend on you if that's the case..” “Please never be afraid to depend on me, use me as you see fit Hajime, I don’t mind.. Especially if it's you.” He smirked out the last bit, it barely being audible. “Well, thanks for talking with me for a bit.. Is there anything else you wanted to ask..?”

“If I’m being honest, I was wondering what you really thought about me. Do you.. Really think I’m that amazing despite not knowing my talent..?” “Without your talent you’ve come this far.. Also, my talent can barely be considered a talent, so don’t compare your talent to my low-level ability to manage by.” With a minor huff in relief, I watch him as he talks about me, seeming as if he forgets I’m even here. “In all honesty, when I’m around you, hearing the way you hold yourself in arguments or the tone you use with your friends, and the care and sincerity behind your voice when you talk with the others.. It’s refreshing to see someone so hopeful. Out of everyone on the island, I’ve been so drawn to you because you’re the hope on this island. I mean you lead us to the truth in class discussions, you always manage to maintain friendship with everybody, it’s as if you’re the force pulling us all together. I admire it.” His pale eyes glimmered as he praised me, his gaze once again shifting onto me and my figure.I must admit, he’d caught me feeling mildly flustered because… I’ve never felt the sincerity and honesty coming from another person in the form of a compliment.

“Jeez Nagito, you act as if you’re in love with me.” His eyes slightly widened, and I noticed in his expression that there was some reaction to what I had said.”What.. Was that too far..?”

“No.. You’re not too far off, but I wouldn’t phrase it like that, considering the differences between you and I.” He mutters and I freeze, eyes locked on him as he anxiously speaks.. For once. Differences between you and I? “I would phrase it as that from the bottom of my heart, I’m truly in love.. With the hope that sleeps and lingers inside you. I know it's there, and it’ll awaken into a beautiful state, and all it takes is motivation..” His cheeks flush as he verbally admits it. This isn't a.. Confession, is it..?

Almost as if thinking aloud, Nagito chuckles. “It’s not.. A confession or anything. I don't think I could live knowing someone such as yourself considers the deep feelings of what I feel for you, especially in a romantic sense. In all actuality, I don’t know what it means.. to love or beloved..”

“It’s nice, at least from the right person..” I smiled. “Despite you saying you don’t know how to express the love you feel, for some reason, everything you do makes me want to get to know more about you. It makes me crave your sight, even. It’s like I want you to focus on what I’m doing and contribute. I want you to be able to see that side of me, and rely on it even.” “Wow Hajime, you make it sound like you’re the one in love with me.”

“I can’t phrase it like that.. It’s too direct. I just want to get to know you better. That’s all Nagito.” 

“And If I said that I wanted to get to know you better, what would that really mean for us..?”

“Exactly that, Nagito, we can get to learn more about each other over the span of however long we’re trapped here.. And I promise not to completely shut you out and outcast you.” We both laugh, and Nagito inches a bit closer to me.

“ You know.. I’d like that.. As long as you’re fine with being next to trash like me and won't get too sick of me.”

“Trust me, I am way past my limit of being sick of you..” I tease him and he huffs in despair..

“I knew it, you-”

“I’m just joking, you’re so caught up in your self-loathing you failed to interpret my sarcasm as actual sarcasm..” I smile, setting myself back into the position I was in before. 

“I think..this scenery is becoming a bit too surreal..” Nagito muttered, standing up from the sand and waiting for me to stand up with him. As I prop myself back to my feet, Nagito leads me away from the beach and down back towards the cottages. Along the way, we ran into some of the others, and I had received some extremely strange looks as the others noticed Nagito and I standing a little closer than usual. Almost as if on cue, Kazuichi questions me on what's going on with Nagito, and warns me not to catch myself going too deep “in hopes to..” God, I can’t even remember.

However, That all being said and done, I walked Nagito to his cottage and he paused before entering.. “There is still some time before 10 PM, did you want to do anything else Hajime..?” He smiles at me, walking towards his doorway.

“Honestly, I’d like to enjoy the moment of peace before disaster strikes.. Want to go get something to eat..?” I ask, resting my hands in my pockets. 

“Sure I would like that.. If you insist on hanging out with a nobody like-”

“I’m sure,now let's go. Maybe we could pick up some bagels on the way back.” His face nearly lit up to the sound of bagels.

“How could I ever resist something as hopeful as bagels.. And you too.”

“Shut up and let's go..” I smiled, leading him towards the restaurant.

It's still really hard to imagine that there will be a day that Nagito and I completely understand each other, but until that day comes, I’m ready to try.
