It isn’t that Nadia hates formal parties. She just… finds them rather dull. There is only so much you can do for an entire night and, after a while, everyone loses that sense of appeal they had walked into the party with. Today is no different. She finds herself stepping away from a group of chatty suitors; she had tried to shoo them away with her bored expressions but had been unsuccessful.

It takes all but a moment for ruby-colored eyes to find someone else worth worth speaking to.

Nish is standing by one of the long tables at the corner of the vast room. When Nadia spots her, her brows shoot up in an interested arch, like she has found the answer to a very complicated riddle. She strides across the room - looking like the kind of women you only see in dreams - the tail of her dress trailing close behind.

“Enjoying the food?” Nadia asks as she approaches Nish; her purple-painted lips showcasing a knowing smile. Ruby-like eyes set themselves upon a hearty plate of appetizers and desserts, and, if anyone asked her to place a bet on the answer to her question in the next few minutes, she wouldn’t hesitate in choosing ‘yes’. This stranger was infamous for attending her parties without the proper invitation. How she manages to snake her way in to the hall isn’t ever a question of anger in Nadia’s mind - more of curiosity.

As the countess picks a colorful treat off of the table next to them, she pushes away the urge to ask.

“I could eat a hundred of these and never get sick,” She states, before shoving the entire square into her mouth. It slides down her tongue in one quick push, leaving her to lick the lingering crumbs off her lips. “There’s a balcony out back with a beautiful view. Why don’t you join me in admiring it? Unless you want to socialize.” The choice is yours, of course.

📚 Backstory 📚

Childhood: As a child Khallalh struggled with nonverbal communication and had delays in his speech development as well as delays in expressing himself. He struggled in classes with other progeny, and they didn’t get along well with him. His parents instead got him a private tutor who taught him subjects as well as helped him develop his social skills and manage his sensory issues. When his parents divorced they left it up to him to decide who he wanted to stay with, he chose his mother, but was still allowed to visit his father for periods of time.

Adolescence: Through his adolescence Khallalh made a lot of leeway in his social skills, although still struggling to interact flawlessly with others. He studied long and hard, determined to stay at the same levels as peers his age, if not past. His hard work paid off, and he was able to resume attending classes with other progeny.

Young Adulthood: Khallalh chose to attend the College of Statics, and passed with flying colors. While there he reunited with an Asura named Nevvi that he had met as a child. She recognized him and the two struck up a friendship. They worked well together, and over time they became closer and developed a romantic relationship. Once Khallalh graduated he became the captain of a small Krewe, which Nevvi joined. But then something went…horribly wrong. Nevvi is no longer around, and the Krewe split up. Khallalh remained in a deep secluded depression for several months until one day in Rata Sum when he overheard Councillor Flax berating a crude Asura by the name of Vexuviux who was under arrest by Peacemakers. Khallalh stood up for Vexuviux, and was tasked with “researching” him to figure out what made him so barbaric, and to “fix” his behaviors. After successfully freeing Vex from Councillor Flax, Khallalh returned to his lab, and Vexuviux decided to join him there. The two later ran into three more Asura, Jozzik (The Great), Darijja, and Forcas, and once the three began hanging around Khallalh’s lab more and more, they decided to unite as the “Misfit Krewe” since the five of them were each misfits in their own ways. It still was a few months before Khallalh and Vex acknowledged they had feelings for each other, and entered a relationship together.

Adulthood: TBD

Present Day: Khallalh resides in his lab, along with his Misfit Krewe members. They tackle various tasks and adventures together and don’t have a specific goal or project they’re working towards.

Das Start-up tbd*, eine Karriereplattform für soziale und nachhaltige Jobs, wurde 2014 von der Schweizerin Nadia Boegli, der Engländerin Naomi Ryland und der Amerikanerin Nicole Winchell gegründet. Zum Start hieß die Plattform noch The Changer, seit wenigen Wochen hört die Plattform nun auf den Namen tbd*. Im Mini-Interview mit deutsche-startups.de spricht Mitgründerin Winchell über Meetings, Plätzchen im Park und Störungen. Wie sieht Dein ganz normaler Start-up-Arbeitsalltag aus – von früh bis spät? Meine Arbeit sieht eigentlich ständig anders aus, je nachdem, was wir gerade planen. Während unseres Rebrandings von The Changer zu tbd*, das wir vor etwas über zwei Wochen abgeschlossen haben, habe ich meine Zeit hauptsächlich am Laptop verbracht. Für die Abstimmungen mit unseren Remote-Designern und Entwicklern habe ich wirklich viel Zeit mit Skype verbracht. Als wir letztes Jahr zusätzliche Finanzierungen beschafft haben, waren wir wirklich viel unterwegs, haben potenzielle Investoren getroffen und auf Events gepitcht. Aber eigentlich beginnt jeder Tag mit Kaffee und E-Mails. Der Nachmittag ist dann meistens gefüllt mit Meetings und Calls. Aber ich versuche mir immer ein paar Stunden dafür zu blocken mit möglichst wenig Störungen an meinen Aufgaben zu arbeiten. Als wir ganz frisch gestartet haben, sind wir Abends zu unheimlich vielen Events gegangen und haben so unser Netzwerk aufgebaut und erweitert. Mittlerweile versuche ich meine Abende fürs Privatleben freizuhalten. Wir veranstalten jedoch regelmässige tbd* Hangouts, welche perfekt dafür sind mit unserer Community in Kontakt zu bleiben und eine persönliche Beziehung aufzubauen. Wie sieht Deine Mittagspause aus? Meistens hole ich mir ein Sandwich und einen frischen Saft im Bio-Café und suche mir ein sonniges Plätzchen im Park. Manchmal ist es aber zugegebenermaßen auch weniger idyllisch, dann esse ich an meinem Computer. Ich treffe auch häufig Kontakte für einen “Catch-up Lunch”. Einmal im Monat gehen wir mit dem ganzen Team Mittag essen. Was machst du, wenn deine Konzentration nachlässt? Weg vom Computer und am besten an die frische Luft. Ich gönne mir gerne eine kleine Pause am Nachmittag, dann laufe ich meistens zum Späti und hole mir eine Club Mate. Ein bisschen frische Luft und kurz die Beine bewegen hilft mir, mich wieder zu konzentrieren. Oder einfach mal kurz mit dem Team lachen, das bringt auch neue Energie. Wie schaltest Du nach der Arbeit ab? Ich fahre jeden Tag mit dem Fahrrad zur Arbeit und diese jeweils 15 Minuten helfen mir sehr dabei abzuschalten. Gleichzeitig lass ich den Tag Revue passieren und erstelle eine mentale Checkliste, was ich am nächsten Tag priorisieren muss. Diese kurze Übergangszeit hilft mir den Tag zu reflektieren und abzuschließen, so dass offene Themen mich Zuhause nicht mehr umtreiben. Wenn ich Zuhause ankomme, kann ich die Gedanken an Arbeit dann abschalten und mich auf anderes konzentrieren. Dann höre ich gerne NPR im Livestream aus den USA, das entspannt mich sehr, und koche mir Abendessen, treffe mich mit Freuden auf einen Drink oder pflege den kleinen Garten auf meinem Balkon. Welchen Tipp hast Du für andere Gründer? Lernt zu priorisieren und Nein zu sagen. Ich glaube, es ist fast eine Art Fetisch, diesen Gründertypus zu idealisieren, der sich selbst in Grund und Boden arbeitet und alles fürs Unternehmen aufgibt. Es mag ein paar Wonderwo(men) geben, aber generell ist das kein besonders nachhaltiger oder glücklicher Lebensstil. Priorisieren ist wichtig, denn gerade Kleinigkeiten fressen so viel Zeit. Konzentriere dich auf die Dinge, die WIRKLICH persönlich und beruflich wichtig sind und lasse die anderen Sachen einfach sein. Das wird dich glücklicher und viel produktiver machen. nadia didn't understand, not at all, and she wasn't being told why they had to go. she knew something was happening, but what? “ where are we going? ” she asks, innocently frowning as she looks at katerina, confusion written across her features. “ we're home... ” it's only then that nadia takes a moment to inspect her mother's clothing. “ are you hurt, mama? ” curious hands reach for the stain in katerina's dress, only for the latter to seemingly tug it out of her reach, which makes nadia's frown intensify. “ what is it? ”

"nadia, we don't have time for your questions. just -- listen." the woman sighs, her arm wrapping around her daughter to pick her up -- then grabbing the stuffed companion she always sleeps. "keep quiet." it's a firm instruction, clutching her daughter to her chest as she slips through the back door -- and begins walking through the crowd of people.

a dangerous person? it's clear that nadia understands what she is being told, for her expression shifts from confusion to worry, perhaps even fear. she had just gotten katerina back... after she had been gone for a few weeks. “ did the bad person come get you last time? ” nadia asks. katerina never explained why she had left, why she had been gone, and nadia wanted to know, so naturally, every chance she got, she tried to gather more information. “ ... will you leave again? ” in the end, that was what mattered, if katerina would leave her again.
