Volume 1 Nightwatch Profiles
1. Vladimir
Vladimir is with his 200 years the oldest warrior of The Nightwatch. The drop of blood incorporated in his ring, symbolizes who he is: a vampire. That drop was not accidentally processed into a ring, because just like a circle a ring symbolizes eternity, an eternal life. Very fitting for someone who has two centuries on his counter.
[Fake ink: the most famous vampire is Count Dracula (origin: Transylvania)]
Traits
Smart, reasonable, great persuasiveness, courteous, 200 years old.
Strengths
• Can turn himself invisible.
• Can switch to vampire speed, which makes him faster than a whirlwind.
• He can hypnotize humans and some creatures with his eyes, but only for short amounts of time.
Weaknesses
• One guess… garlic, of course! As soon as he comes near garlic he looses all his powers.
• Shuns bright sunlight and because of that often wears sunglasses.
• No reflection, which he has to hide from normal people.
Archivist’s note: We barely see Vlad wearing sunglasses in the show, and we also rarely to never see him use these mentioned hypnosis powers. It’s unclear when these books were written in the timeline of show production, but this leads me to believe these profiles were written before or during show production. The discrepancies are the biggest with Keelin, but more on that in the notes on her section.
While the text in the weakness section does not state that the loss of power to garlic is impermanent, we see in the show that it does not have lasting consequences on him.
2. Keelin
Meet Keelin. Attached to her necklace is a golden feather. That refers to birds and thus the ability to fly. The most special gift of an elf is… that she can fly. Hence the feather. But there’s more… to the ancient Egyptians the feather is a symbol of truth. Keelin has a strongly developed intuition that has never steered her wrong. That too is contained within the image of the feather.
[Fake ink: typical are the pointed ears]
Traits
High EQ and thus high empathy, good at improvising, has a strongly developed intuition, is positive and shrewd.
Strengths
• An expert in making all kinds of magical concoctions.
• The elf dust in her long blonde hair gives her magical powers.
• Has wings and can therefore fly.
Weaknesses
• Chaotic and sometimes overconfident.
• Freezes up in small rooms because the tiniest movement can damage her wings.
Archivist’s note: There’s a big difference between this profile’s Keelin and the show’s Keelin, this being the wings. As far as I am aware, Keelin has never had wings in the show or movies, and as the monster manuals are mainly episode retellings by Vega, they don’t show up in the manuals’ stories either. The picture included with her profile in this volume does picture her with translucent wings, though.
The discrepancies in the profiles are also present in volume two, who’s profiles are the similar to volume one except for a different layout, some reworded text, and the addition of some facts such as birthday and favourite foods, but the discrepancies are removed from volume 3 onward.
I suspect Keelin may have been conceptualised with wings in earlier versions of her character due to the many different connotations of the word “elf” in Dutch, which include the typical elves English speakers will imagine when hearing the word, but also include pixies, fairies, fey, sprites, brownies, certain spirits, etc. It is almost used as a catchall term for a certain type of folkloric creature.
Keelin’s most obvious connection to these connotations, the wings, were eventually cut from her character, but the influence is still visible in the “elf dust” in her hair (which due to these connotations can just as well be translated as fairy dust or pixie dust).
3. Wilko
Werewolf Wilko has a leather bracelet with an incorporated wolf fang. Both the leather and the fang are two obvious animal symbolism. In Wilko’s case the fang especially is a strong image of his special gifts: exceptional power, bravery and above-human senses. The wolf fang symbolizes the close relationship between animal and nature and thus also between Wilko and Nature.
[Fake ink: noticeably hairy]
Traits
Brave, honest, adventurer, tough. Can decide and act quickly.
Strengths
• Above-human strenght, fast, agile.
• Iron-strong senses (hearing, vision, taste, smell).
Weaknesses
• Sometimes impulsive. Stubborn and fiery.
• When he gets into contact with silver he changes back to his human form. Silver blocks his transformation to a werewolf. He can thus be kept prisoner with a silver chain.
Archivist’s note: Wilko’s profile is the most in line with what we see in the show, which doesn’t surprise me. Where there are many versions of vampires and elves have certain connotations in Dutch, werewolves are quite straight-forward. The only discrepancy I could spot, which I’m not certain of since I haven’t watched the episodes in a while, is the notion that silver forces him to return to human form. In the show, it harms him instead (in both human and werewolf form), which I do feel makes more sense for a weakness.

Would anyone be interested in like. Photos and/or translations of parts of the Nachtwacht monster manuals?
(Photos can be of multiple things but for translations I’m thinking of like, the two pages of monster info after each story (which are usually just episode or movie recaps from Vega’s POV). It has things like weaknesses, strengths, etc)

Well hello there Nachtwacht fandom…
Offering some fandragons for Nachtwacht that I have!
(I’m still working on Wilko but I promise I’ll add him in a reblog once I have him)
Vlad as a skydancer (because they have a regal stature and I forgot I had already planned Keelin as a skydancer). And then Keelin as also a skydancer because of their “sensing emotions” lore.
(I might make Wilko a mirror though)
Their jewelry blends in a bit much but they do in fact have their ring and necklace!

Nachtwacht edit mistakes
before i get into the mistakes i want to preface that i personally don't mind these "mistakes". it shows the series is made by people and people make mistakes, simple as that. anyway, here are some errors I spotted.
The Panther Creature (season 1, episode 1)
This is not necessarily an editing mistake, but more of "huh?" moment, I guess. Let me explain.
Here, Vlad just hung up the phone after getting a call from Wilko who called to tell them he's stuck in jail at Cooper's office. Keelin is listening to the conversation of Ella and a newly arrived guest.
A few seconds later, Vlad returns to grab Keelin while putting on his coat. They head to the back. The camera turns to focus on Ella and her conversation with the guest.
But then Vlad and Keelin are seen sneakily leaving the inn at the front door as Ella calls out for Vlad to help the guest with her luggage.
But how did Keelin and Vlad get there so fast? This is the scene as its shown in the episode:
I didn't edit this clip. Keelin and Vlad are seen going through the kitchen, which means they ended up in the private room. And also, what were they doing in the private room? Maybe let Vega know they were heading outside, that's possible. But then how did they get to the front door so quick? As far as I can tell, there are only 3 ways to leave the private room:
enter the secret room (through the wardrobe)
return back to the kitchen (through the door)
go outside (through window)
In the GIFs below you can see a doorway between the front door and the kitchen so theoretically that could lead to the private room and be a clever way for Vlad and Keelin to sneak out. Except, as I already mentioned, there are only 3 ways out of the private room. I never see another door that leads back to the inn's main room.
The Master Vampire (season 2, episode 6)
Keelin and Wilko discuss plans and decide to split up to find Vlad. So Keelin heads for the gate of the village square. She's not wearing a jacket.
In the next shot, Keelin busy trying to locate Vlad.
But now she is wearing her jacket. I know I'm nitpicking, and of course she could've gone back to get her jacket but they were in such a hurry to find Vlad so I don't find that a pausible explaination?
Tarantula (season 5, episode 3)
After Sacha told them about meeting a woman in the forest who was looking for Keelin, Vlad and Wilko, Vlad tells them about Tarantula. Wilko decides they should go look for her. They leave the inn immediately.
Next time we see the gang, they're in the forest. And Vlad is suddenly wearing his coat while he didn't grab it when they left the inn.
They continue to walk through the forest. Eventually they stumble upon Cooper who is standing next to one of Tarantula's giant spider webs. And Vlad is not wearing his coat.
The Day of the Blood Moon
This "mistake" is just a split second moment in the movie and it took me several rewatches to spot this. It's a scene from the third Night Watch movie and its also part of the end battle, thus the shots are all fast-paced.
(*spoilers ahead*) For context: Wilko, Rhea and Lupino catch Bardal with a net. They have to hold him down until the lunar (or solar?) eclipse has passed. during this eclipse the werewolves transform into a more wolf-ish form.
When they catch Bardal, Wilko's arms are covered with fur, he got claws (or very long, sharp nails?) and his face looks a bit different because of the more wolf-ish transformation.
Just seconds later, in a different shot, Wilko's arms are bare, no claws and his face is back in its usual werewolf transformation.
And then frames later, he is back to the more extreme werewolf form.
Seconds later, the eclipse has passed and all werewolves are back to their normal self, including Wilko who has changed into his usual transformation.
anyway. these were just little things i noticed. I hope you enjoyed reading all this about just minor Nachtwacht things :)
comment if you know any other edit "errors" like this in Nachtwacht.

Abstract Rembrandt. Prints Remon de Jong (aka Nomer). Vrije Academie, Huis Visari, Herengracht 368, Amsterdam. 7 december 2023 tot en met 7 januari 2024.

Main characters of a not-super-well-known Dutch/Belgian kids tv show (Keelin, Vlad & Wilko from Nachtwacht)
Antagonist from a musical that was only on broadway for 1 month in 2011 (the Mad Hatter from Wonderland)
One of the antagonists from a book series by Thea Stilton that was never translated into English (Tempestia the witch of weather and wind from the witches of fantasia series)
im curious and i wanna hear about everyone's most obscure fandragons. i do not mean "background character in fairly popular anime" give me shit that probably no one else on the site will ever have, and very few people if any would recognize. one of mine is based on an hour-long album of a guy doing prank calls with wacky vocal effects

Fanfic Writer Interview
I got tagged by @coconi! Thank you for the tag!
Tagging @higuchimon, @silvormoon and @satari-raine if you’re feeling up for it!
How many works do you have on AO3?
40!
What’s your total AO3 word count?
371 512, but probably over 500k if you include the stuff I never moved from ff.net.
How many fandoms have you written for and what are they?
9 fandoms: Yu-Gi-Oh, GX, 5D’s and Arc-V, Ace Attorney, Oban Star Racers, Nachtwacht, Breath of the Wild and Modao Zushi
What are your top 5 fics by kudos?
Your own heart that matters (BoTW)
Guiding a Star (YGO 5DX)
Shadows Cast (YGO GX)
None of Worth (YGO GX)
One Second Per Second (YGO 5DX)
Do you respond to comments, why or why not?
I try to! ... But I’m very bad at it. Sometimes I reply almost straight away, sometimes it takes me months and months before I manage. I do very much appreciate each and every comment that comes my way!
What’s the fic you’ve written with the angstiest ending?
Probably Zero Hour (YGO 5Ds), which was my shot at a soulmate fic where canon events and motivations were more important to the characters than any soulmate status.
Do you write crossovers? If so, what’s the craziest one you’ve written?
I have an entire series where I throw Judai into unrelated fandoms just to see what explodes :D I highly recommend doing so, it’s great fun!
Have you ever received hate on a fic?
Not outright hate, though someone once got terribly offended at *checks notes* portraying Jiang Cheng as a multifaceted character who has extremely complex feelings with regards to Wei Wuxian?
Do you write smut? If so what kind?
Nah, I’m the kind of ace who is no good at it. I tried once, but it made me feel extremely awkward in a way I couldn’t work through.
Have you ever had a fic stolen?
Not outright stolen, but someone once took large swathes of a fic of mine and just changed the names and relevant details. They did credit me as an inspiration, buuuut it was a little more than just inspiration.
Have you ever had a fic translated?
Once! I’d be delighted if people wanted to translate other fics of mine!
What’s your all time favorite ship?
I usually have favorite ships per fandom, though the ones that have been with me the longest are Yubel/Judai/Johan (GX) and Yusei/Bruno (5Ds).
Whats a WIP that you want to finish but don’t think you ever will?
I once started writing a fic about Aki coming to terms with her powers and how they evolved post-canon, mostly because I was in a rut at the time and needed to write something. I still hope to come back to it one day, but it’s looking increasingly unlikely.
What are your writing strengths?
Emotions and stream-of-consciousness, particularly when a character is panicking or otherwise not thinking clearly. I love writing those scenes.
What are your writing weaknesses?
Description. I am horrifically bad at describing things or people and I have aphantasia, so elaborate descriptions à la Tolkien are entirely wasted on me (give me a five-paragraph description of a lush forest with all the various creatures living there and my takeaway will be ‘there are trees’.)
What are your thoughts on writing dialogue in other languages in a fic?
I like doing so, but it’s a delicate balance and if you’re gonna do it, make sure the language is correct and it makes sense for the character. Only do it if the other characters in the vicinity really aren’t able to understand what’s being said.
What’s being said also needs to make sense in context, even if the full translation isn’t given.
What was the first fandom you wrote for?
Harry Potter, a fic about the Hogwarts Founders. I was 13 and it never saw the light of the internet :D
What’s your favorite fic that you’ve written?
I am still very fond of So Far, So Good! When it comes to more recent fic, I had a lot of fun writing Nowhere Near (Nachtwacht), Your own heart that matters (Botw) and Stranger to your soul (mdzs)!

Was wtfock the first (big) acting job for everyone on the cast or are some of them known for other stuff?
Well, some had a bit more experience at the start of wtFOCK.
Nathan (Senne) was known for his part in the Flemish soap series "Familie". He also played a role in the tv series "Altijd Prijs" and "Kattenoog", as well as the LGBT movie "North Sea Texas" plus a few cameo's in other shows.
Aaron (Aaron) acted in movies like "My first highway", "Love is the word" and "Booster" as well as (LGBT) shorts, mini tv series and three episodes of the soap "Familie".
Nora (Yasmina) acted in movies "Ghost Tropic", "Bullets" and had a minor cameo in "Patser" (directed by Adil El Arbi and Bilal Fallah - the same directors as Bay Boys For Life).
Noa (Moyo) was/is a professional dancer, so he's probably known more for that than his acting, yet he played a role in the first Belgian horror movie "Cub".
Lars (Milan) did some work in the children's show "Nachtwacht", but performes as an theatre actor in diverse LGBT productions.
Willem H (Robbe), Femke (Jana), Lilith (Britt), Nona (Amber) mostly gained experience in tv show cameo's, shorts and student films.
So before wtFOCK the cast was mostly unknown, but they are gaining attention and getting more opportunities as time passes by. Nora (Yasmina) was a field reporter for Red Nose Day 2019, Nathan (Jens) had a Zalando campaign and Maarten (Luka) got a role in a children's show. Who knows what's next?

The Illustrious Table of Contents
Archivist’s note: Entries are listed in the order they are listed in the manuals. Since I suspect the earlier manuals might be written before the seasons aired, any discrepancies in episode order vs manual order might be because of the manual order being the original order the episodes were planned to air, but I can’t of course confirm this.
I have marked episode numbers but have not marked season finales, as I’m not sure whether Nachtwacht had them (especially since the episodes aren’t connected with eachother through storyline). There are some seasons where I suspect that the last episode listed was the season finale due to certain threat level evaluations within the manuals, but in that case The Silent Twins would be season 3’s last episode, which isn’t correct; The Metentis was the last episode of season 3, and the Metentis simply isn’t season finale material. I have made sure to also include episode titles for the entry names that don’t match up with the episode name.

Saw the first 4 episodes of Carmen Sandiego today and my overall impression is ‘Carmen Sandiego good’ but some random thoughts are:
It’s impossible for me to take VILE serious in any capacity not just because they’re all clearly comic book villains (which, yknow, is the intention) but also bc I once read this book series called HIVE, which was about a training facility for super villains, and I remember practically nothing about it but EVERYTHING about VILE is giving me massive déjà vu.
I can’t decide whether I like dialogue or not? The banter is funny and it has some good lines, but it can get kinda clunky at times and the exposition-y dialogue is..... oof
I like the artstyle an character designs! Particularly for the girls. Ms. Argent, Carmen, and Ivy all give me heart eyes.
Zack and the interpol agent need to get out. Interpol agent (forgot his name) is annoying arrogant and Ms. Argent is too good for him, and Zack falls into the most annoying type of comic relief and I Don’t Care For Them
I don’t really get why Zack and Ivy need to be in the story? I like Ivy and I’m glad she’s there, and they’ve certainly been helpful, but they don’t seem to have any kind of special skill like Carmen and Player, and I honestly feel like it really wouldn’t have been that hard to write them out of the story completely. Maybe this’ll fix itself later on though.
I like Carmen’s backstory! The ‘hero turns on their evil family’ backstory is familiar, but the show puts a neat little spin on it and takes the time to develop Carmen’s relationships with the members of the HIVE faculty, which I really appreciated, and I’m certain this’ll make for great drama later on in the series.
Carmen is. Such a cool character. I love her.
Also Ms. Argent. Give her her own taskforce already!
Ep 5 is gonna take place in the Netherlands and my Dutch ass WILL be judging on accuracy and I can’t wait.
Prediction: the painting that’s being stolen is either De Nachtwacht (The Night Watch) (which would be.... impressive, considering its size), Het Melkmeisje (The Milk Maid), or Vincent Van Gogh’s self portrait. If the last one, there’ll be a whole pronunciation debate (and kudos if they actually manage to get the right one; the Dutch ‘g’ is a bitch for foreigners).

I need a Night Watch season six or movie
Just today the new music video for Night Watch's new song Samen sterk premiered and I just couldn't help but get excited! And of course, we already got the news of a new Night Watch show last week and that's equally (if not more) exciting.
Though, during the premiere of the music I saw a comment which asked a new Night Watch movie, and I 100% agree. We need a new movie or a sixth season. I'm not sure which one I'd rather have, I mean both would be great, duh. Night Watch movies tend to delve more into the characters and introducing new location of the Underworld, whereas the tv-series focuses more on day-to-day Night Watch adventures. They may not to be as spectacular as the movies in terms of location or storyline, but I love with 5 seasons we got so far all the same.
Anyway, this is just a rant post because I need to vent about Nachtwacht 'n stuff because none of my friends watch it
Also, I'm loving the disco lights in the music video.
