design trivia: Naamah
° the third of four wives by seniority, but the fourth is actually
° Adam's great(n times)-granddaughter on Cain's side, so technically Lucifer is also his grandson-in-law
° bright red hair
° likes to wear jewelry
° worshipped lesser deities and spirits in her lifetime, never was married
° the only one of the four who relived the first death: she was taken by water
° the first Tainted (she was hungry, angry and attacked by a flesh demon)
° taken as a wife mainly for musical and singing talents and to complete lucky number (she's infertile after first death)
° Lilith was jealous at first, but soon realized that Naamah didn't want to hurt her status, and they quickly became besties

Thinking Beyond Replacement
The new Lilith reveal when Vengeance was announced led to another stupid & frankly outdated thought: "why design a new look for a classic SMT demon that's still popular when the new is functionally identical to the old?"
This thought nevertheless got me curious, so i made the Qadistu quartet edits seen above. I've become pro-Doi Lilith for the following reasons:
Kaneko is super dead now that he left Atlus. It's time to move on for real. I'm especially talking to myself.
the palettes of Eisheth Zenunim, Agrat bat Mahlat, and Naamah aren't dissimilar to the Amemiya or Kaneko Liliths, so they would still look fairly cohesive even with the latter. But Lilith is still the leader of the Qadistu and her bubblegum pink hair makes her pop out among them.
However, I think it's undeniable that Doi designed the Qadistu as a unit, combining, as he says, "beauty and ugliness." All 4 have grotesque features and I particularly like Lilith's bony joint aberrations:
There's just a level of cohesion usually only a single artist can lend to such a related/thematic assemblage; I'm also pretty positive on Naamah; even if her purpose in the Qadistu might just be to breast boobily, she's a demon I've wanted in SMT for a long time and i think her design delivers.
I'm not as hot on Agrat bat Mahlat, she reminds me of Ranni for some reason; I just think the "dark witch" motif is a little derivative but at least she adds variety to the group. The most notable thing about her to me is that her red eyes make it look like she's been doing some heavy dabbing in the sweet leaf. Eisheth Zenunim I'm pretty neutral about.
Last point on accepting change, as sad as that sounds to say (but it totally is what's necessary):the 4 Qadistu are the wives of Samael, and so the new Lilith is still wrapped by a snake--a red snake, the same color Samael has always been in Kaneko's designs. While it seems a given Samael will be involved in the story eventually, it would also mean he will have a new design, and probably not a snake, or at least something more involved. I also imagine Lilith's snake having a role in cutscenes--further necessitating the need for an all-new design/model.
Also, i totally expect there to be some classic SMT comparative etymological conflation bullshit with Samael this time around, because "Samael" is one of the alternate names of Yaldabaoth. And oh yeah, Sophia is the mother of the demiurge and in vanilla she called herself a sacred prostitute:
So expect her involvement, too. I'm honestly pretty excited for Vengeance! It's coming out at a great time for me, I think it'll be doable for me one-handed,Doi's new designs I would put on a Kaneko quality scale of somewhere between SMT2 and Devil Summoner, and vanilla SMT5 was so low impact, the only place it can go now is up!

Could we get a brief summary of each of the wives' stories. Naamah especially interests me.
of course 🖤 glad to hear that you're interested in this splendid ladies
Eisheth Zenunim
• she doesn't have the most interesting biography, what's interesting is her origin
• belongs to the number of the first shedim (the youngest creatures of Yahweh, the progenitor spirits of demons, who had no body), so she's of the oldest demons of Sheol
• remains in a plasma-like state because she decided that flesh would limit her
• Eisheth always preferred women more (not so much in a romantic sense, more in a global: as a spirit, Eisheth basically indifferent to questions of gender), so took a female form
• began to take under patronage those women who worshipped demons and spirits, as well as temple prostitutes and old women
• she and Lucifer bicker, but they support each other
Agrat bat Machlat
• child of desert demon and mortal woman
• great-granddaughter of Abraham (Abraham's son Ishmael lived for a time with one egyptian woman, but they separated before the birth of their daughter; this daughter later became the mother of Agrat)
• technically Agrat was given the feminine form of her father's name and matronym lol
• was born in Sheol and was always very close to father, — mother died early because of Sheol's conditions (underworld is cruel to mortals who are still alive); Ygertiel encouraged her militancy, and she's his favorite of children
• Agrat commands legions of spirits and loves to ride
• gave birth to Asmodeus and still doesn't understand how she created this
• Ygertiel love her son too; it's the only reason Agrat and father sometimes argue (she punishes sex offenders, but one of them is her son, an immortal demon warlord)
Naamah
• was born as a mortal woman
• daughter of blind Lamech (who shot Cain while hunting), sister of Tubalkain and two consanguineous brothers
• had a cheerful personality from childhood, not for nothing was she called "nice" or "pleasant"
• in mortal life Naamah began to worship demons and spirits, as they listened to people's requests much more often than Yahweh, sang for them and played music during rituals
• never married before death (typical cheerful aunt who brings gifts to nephews)
• died in the Flood with brother and his family, trying to hold one of children until the last moment
• survived alone in Sheol for a long time; once, fighting off one of underworld creatures, Naamah killed it with bare hands and ate, as she was hungry and wanted to frighten those who would try to attack her
• thus becoming the first Tainted
• even after death Naamah continued so-called musical career and wasn't afraid of firstborn demons, and some of them favored her in turn; that's how she met Lucifer
• perhaps this is some kind of blessing, but red-haired sinners are more resistant to demon blood; the few who survived the eating of demon's flesh were all red-haired
• yep, Alastor, we're talking about you too

You know... it's fun to imagine the different "canons" of the many different versions of the protagonist of SMT V: Vengeance. Some may ask what do I mean by "canons." What I mean is basically every players own playthrough and how in their mind you fill in different parts of the story with your own headcanon.
Using myself as an example, Tori Ashida is the name of the protagonist Nahobino of my playthrough. The way I envision Tori is pretty easy-going, generally Neutral toward things but can lean towards Law or Chaos. I also say that Tori is non-binary but has no issue being addressed with male pronouns. In my head, once Tori takes the Throne for his world, he probably appoints multiple leaders, essentially making a council to help govern things. Generally made up of most of those who could be considered "Top God" of their pantheon. Like I'm thinking Tori would make Zeus, Odin, Shiva, and Amaterasu or Tsukuyomi at least four of them. Maybe Beelzebub because he was high ranking on the Chaos side of things, maybe bring Michael in as well, maybe even the Qadistu, if Tori is feeling generous. In my "canon," Tori also has no issue with poly relationships, so people will make harem jokes at their expense.
I'm still playing through the game, probably close to about ready to try fighting Shiva or Demi-Fiend. Probably gonna level up my party to ninety-nine best I can. The main players are close while Tori is at max, so I'm gonna also probably try grinding Grimoires as well. Wish me luck!
Also, if you guys are feeling it, I wouldn't mind hearing of some of your "canons." At the very least I wouldn't mind hearing your Nahobino's name if you're willing to share.

Silly Qadištu family headcanons
(Disclaimer that some of these headcanons go against SMT V Vengeance lore, as I'm drawing from various sources texts on Jewish mysticism and mythology that say otherwise. Demons are slippery things, open to many different interpretations.)
-Being ancient and well-learned demons, the Qadištu speak and understand a great number of languages, though their native tongue is Hebrew.
-Lilith and Agrat are mother and daughter. Naamah is Lilith's younger sister, therefore Agrat's aunt. Eisheth is Naamah's favorite lover. They take the crown for being Da'at's darkest, weirdest, most dysfunctional family.
-Agrat's full name is Agrat Bat Mahlat because despite Lilith being her biological mother, Agrat spent her early years raised by a foster mother and demon named Mahlat. Lilith wanted proof that her offspring would in time become strong and worthy before welcoming Agrat as one of the Qadištu.
-With her love of rainy weather and talent for dancing, Agrat lives up to her nickname as the "demon dancing on the roof" by spending her free time tap dancing somewhere up high, happily twirling her umbrella under a shower of rain.
-Eisheth loves to carve works of art with her absurdly long nails on all kinds of surfaces. The fleshier the better, of course.
-Eisheth has the soul of an artist. In her free time she travels to the human world in disguise to visit art museums and admire the greats.
-Eisheth is also a culinary connoisseur and has a vast appetite. Naamah is convinced that Eisheth's stomach is a bottomless void somehow connected to a black hole somewhere in the universe. One time Eisheth was challenged by the rest of the Qadištu to an eating contest. Even combined, the three of them still lost.
-Agrat enchanted her hat so it stays on her head at all times, even through blustering winds and howling blizzards.
-Agrat and Eisheth fight like cats and dogs, Agrat using every chance she gets to piss off and egg on Eisheth (a very easy target), while Eisheth constantly calls her whelp, kid or brat, and hardly ever refers to Agrat by her proper name.
-As the oldest, Lilith is the matriarch and the glue keeping the Qadištu together all these years, acting as peacemaker whenever the other three get into petty spats.
-Agrat has a son named Asmodeus, who she had with David before he became the king of Israel. Being half-demon, he ages very slowly. He has lived for hundreds of years but appears physically nine or ten years old. He has a penchant for impish mischief and can have nasty temper flare-ups (literally, complete with hair and eyes on fire), but also has razor-sharp cunning and intellect that make his mother proud. He goes by his nickname Mo when referred to with affection and endearment.
-Unlike most demons who entirely leave their offspring to fend for themselves, Agrat has been invested with educating and caring for Asmodeus since his birth, due to the unusual attachment she feels for his father David. She teaches Mo everything from magic and music to the ways of the demon and human worlds.
-The only thing that annoys Eisheth more than Agrat ("Whelp") is Mo ("Whelp Jr.") Whenever they're in the same room, Eisheth says dramatically "Oh Goddess there's two of them."
-Naamah has had so many lovers and demonic offspring over the centuries that she can't bother to keep track of them and remember all their names. Eisheth being the exception, of course. Their dates typically consist of human killing sprees.
-Naamah has no interest in protecting and raising her own children, but dotes on her grand-nephew Mo and encourages his attempts at pulling pranks. It won't happen anytime soon (give or take a few centuries), but she looks forward to the time he's matured and grown so she can teach him how to be the ultimate ladies' man.
-Lilith dotes on her faithful snake companion, who is never far from her and in turn closely protects his mistress. She likes to feed him live prey and doesn't mind the bloody mess he makes when he's crunching into something over her shoulder.
-Out of the four, Agrat is the most scholarly and especially knowledgeable in medicine and disease. She's more interested in the knowledge and application of diseases, of course.
-Out of the four, Naamah is the most knowledgable and invested in cosmetics. She keeps a huge secret stash of makeup that she refuses to share with her fellow Qadištu. Her love and sharp eye for good aesthetic is why she and Eisheth get along so well.
-Eisheth somersaults in place midair when she's bored.
