[ART FOR OTHERS]
This week’s Art for Others (the series where I make some free art for others) featuring @axl-ul’s mythic-historical fantasy story called City of False Gods. The summary:
After the failed pilgrimage to the Western Paradise, Sun Wukong was imprisoned by Buddha once again. Now, he is awakened from his cursed slumber to experience the shocking world of 1920s Hong Kong, or rather one of its infamous islands - Dragonfly Island. Under the supervision of Erlang Shen, Sun Wukong must find his Master while being stripped of many of his powers and forced to take up the identity of a simple auto mechanic at the local police station. Despite his ban and various restrictions, the Great Sage finds himself rescuing a poor orphaned boy who witnessed a murder of a prostitute.
Hunted by the local crime lord and his superordinate with new tasks in the workshop or coerced by circumstances to protect little Zhihao and encounter familiar faces from the past, the Monkey King faces a new trial the fate has prepared for him. Shall he prove worthy of restoring the sutras after all and achieve nirvana? Or shall his name be remembered as that of a treacherous demon who never learnt his lesson?
Versions uncrunched by tumblr for you here
Check it out and show them some support! They don’t have a page for this story set up yet but follow them and keep an eye out for it! This one was a little tougher to arrange but I like how it turned out. If you’d like me to make free art for one of your stories all you have to do is be following me and have a titled writing project!

Would you read my WIP [if I published it]
It's the story of an alien society with a pantheon of six gods. When a mortal comes of age, they are claimed by one of the gods as their student and disciple [that way every person has been trained by a god in their craft].
The main character is claimed by the forgotten seventh god, the primordial parent of the other gods who died when their children used their body to build the world.
The story follows the main character as he works together with-and against- the gods to figure out how to resurrect a dead deity without destroying the world in the process.

I know unicorns in modern media are kind of relegated to cutsie, MLP, rainbow plastic toys, or shitting rainbows, 'lets go to candy mountain' but man. I WISH more fantasy media would put them in unironically. There is so much symbolic and narrative potential in a creature that is, depending on your mythology:
A guardian of wild spaces, the embodiment of nature untouched by mankind's industry and greed. Fewer and farther between.
The ideal of "Purity" made manifest, elusive and powerful and hunted for fruitlessly by many a person. To kill. To actually kill. Living symbol of the oh-so-coveted Purity, not treated as a sacred thing to protect, or even predated for food to survive off, but a trophy for knights and lords to boast about.
So absolutely fierce and deadly that no one smart dared to fight it fairly. A gentle maiden had to betray it into resting in her lap so that a man could spear it while its guard was down.
Able to heal any wound no matter how severe - it promised miracles, if you could find one.
A creature who's magic vanished if it was captured or killed. In trying to take control of it, you destroyed it. Some things can only be given by free will, and no amount of personal desire or brute force can change that.

In my youth (two years ago) I was obsessed with making monster anatomy make some degree of sense. This was at its worst when I designed any chimeric creature, but especially the Chimera. I absolutely refused to give it multiple heads, and jumped through hoops to combine features into what I thought was a practical animal. Even the snake tail was just a weird flesh mouth with no eyes or throat. Now, I only focus on making it look cool and weird
