Hi I loved your recs! I was wondering if you could rec some shows that have the found family trope? Thank you !
sure! here's a few of my favorites to get you started!
mystic pop-up bar is one of my favorite kdramas! premise is that a 20-something year old guy named kang bae has a weird ability where whenever anyone touches him, they're compelled to tell the truth/confess secrets. he comes across a pop-up bar one night ran by weol ju, an immortal shaman who is cursed to resolve the grudges of 10,000 humans or she won't be able to reincarnate and gwi, who is a former Ghost Cop who is helping weol ju complete her mission. kang bae teams up with them, because his ability is really useful for finding out grudges!, with a promise from weol ju that if he helps her resolve the grudges she'll remove his powers. the first ep is a little meh, but keep going! one of the best, most feel-good found family stories there is
a journey to love is a wuxia roadtrip that has a band of elite soldiers teaming up with the world's most dangerous assassin and a sheltered princess in disguise as a man. character-driven and centered on the bonds everyone makes!! warning: sad ending
vincenzo has a found family...mafia style! a mafia guy from italy comes to south korea in search of gold, teams up with a crooked lawyer, and collects a bunch of loveable weirdos as he takes on an Evil Pharma company
go ahead is a cdrama that completely runs on the premise of how important it is to have a family of choice. three kids are raised by two dads from separate families, and have to navigate the toxic relationships they have with their birth parents
tale of nokdu is a gender-reversal cross-dressing kdrama that also has a running theme of how important it is to have a family of choice. everyone by the end of the show becomes a big, motley family and the ending is a pure shot of serotonin. premise begins with nokdu disguising himself as a woman to enter an all-women's village in order to find out about some assassins that have been targeting his family

Mystic Pop-up Bar - Episode 2
I should probably getting ready for work, I know too well, but these days I've been dragging my feet to work. My job doesn't bring as much pleasure as it used to when I first started. Hopefully, things will get better. Anyways, I won't finish this episode in one sit, I'm fine with this, I'm just really curious about what's going to happen.
Weol-ju has Kanghae experience her powers in a dream, letting him going on a date with a cute girl. Then she brutally wakes him up and shows him the contract she wrote for the two of them. However, one of the clause stipulates that partaking in the dreams of other might enhance his ability, which he wants to actually get rid of. So he backs out of the deal, in fear of being stuck with much worse than what he has now. She won't give up that easily, so she goes to see him at work, bringing food to his coworkers saying that she wants to hire him. He takes her apart and says that his answer is still no. So she traps him by having a whole lot of old ladies pour their heart to him and he concedes victory to her and agrees to the contract.
Kangbae's landlord and her daughter come to the street bar to have some mackerel. Weol-ju wants Kanghae to touch the lady, once her daughter's gone so they would know of her troubles. Turns out that she's not the real mom of her daughter. Her jealousy caused the death of her real mother. Weol-ju kicks her out, because it reminds her of how people were gossiping about her and how her mom died unfairly. She refuses to help a murderer, no matter what Kangbae says.
To help his landlady, Kangbae decides to steal the magical alcohol and do it himself. However, when he gets home, the lady collapsed and he takes her to the hospital. He gets scolded pretty bad for stealing the alcohol and they warn him not to use any of it. Unfortunately, as he put it in a water bottle, the lady's daughter drank some and he ends up in her dream. They see how good of a mother the lady was. It doesn't really change Weol-ju's mind about helping her, and Kangbae only convinces her by promising to sign fully the contract if she does help. So she agrees. But it's too late, because the lady died. She makes a bargain with Death to have her one day to fulfill her wish. So they find the father, but unfortunately, he forgot everything about his past wife. They don't really have time to drag him to Seoul, so it's not going to work... But lifesaver, Kangbae still has a little bit of the alcohol in the water bottle.
Thanks to that, they manage to unlock the dad's memories and have him meet with his daughter, fulfilling miss Andong's wish. She can then leave without any regrets. Also she has been forgotten by Suhwa and can rest in peace.
While they throw a welcome party for Kangbae as a new official employee, we learn that Weol-ju has been punished to save 100 000 humans from their grudges because by hanging herself at the Sacred Tree, she brought bad luck to the Tree which was protecting the country. It has been invaded and 100 000 people died. At first she refused the punishment, but then the lady showed her a scroll, which changed her appearance and made her accept to undergo that punishment. Unfortunately, they didn't translate into subs any part of the scroll, I recognize the Chinese characters meaning life after life, but that's it. Is it related to the prince she liked? We'll probably discover that sooner or later.
And that will be all for episode two. So far, this is a really great show. It shows very well human nature to me, while it talks about stuff that are sometimes hard to approach. It's only the beginning, but we can already see some character growth, hence I'm really looking forward what is to happen to each of them.

Hi, top 5 Kdramas please!
it was so hard to pick only 5 ;; but not in any particular order since they all have vastly different #vibes:
chicago typewriter. three people--a famous novelist, a ghost writer, and an errand girl--cross paths in modern-day Seoul and in different ways try to help the novelist complete his latest story -- a novel about freedom fighters during the japanese occupation of korea in the 1930s. however, as the story continues, and the trio get more and more involved with one another, it turns out the story isn't just a story, but the retelling of their past lives where they were lovers, comrades, and maybe even enemies. a rare kdrama where the ending is stronger than the beginning, this is a slow burn that takes its time to get going but once it does it's so SO good. drama, comedy, romance, everything!
welcome to waikiki. three losers (a prospective director, an aspiring actor, and a wannabe screenwriter) live in and run a sharehouse. one day, they wake up to find a baby in one of the rooms, and chaos ensues. so fucking funny, i love the ships, and the cast is well balanced between the three male leads and the three female leads. A+++
mystic pop-up bar. kang bae, a 20something who works in customer service, has a curse where whenever anyone touches him, they are compelled to tell him their deepest secrets. one night, he crosses paths with weol ju, a shaman who is cursed to an immortal/unending existence until she resolves the grudges of 10,000 humans because of a grave sin she committed in her mortal life. with her is gwi, a retired ghost cop who now helps her run a pop-up bar where they enter dreams and try to resolve weol ju's debt. kang bae joins them when weol ju offers him a bargain: use his powers to help her resolve the grudges, and once 10k are up, she'll remove his powers. you think this show is run of the mill case of the week, but it all builds together so beautifully and it's such a great found family dynamic. i love this ooone
bridal mask/gaksital. set in 1930s korea during the japanese occupation. kang to is a ratbastard -- a korean who works for the japanese as a police officer and turns in his countrymen. he becomes obsessed with hunting down BRIDAL MASK. a zorro-esque freedom fighter with a hidden identity. to get to him, he tries to capture mok dan, the daughter of a freedom fighter general and bridal mask's suspected lover. the first few eps get you thinking it's going to be a cheesey action show, but it's a fantastic tragedy with so many nuanced character arcs.
extraordinary you. dan oh is a rich high schooler at an elite academy, who has a crush on her aloof and disdainful fiance, baek kyung, and a tragic but non-descript heart condition. one day, she starts realizing parts of her memory are gone, and there's the distant sound of someone turning the page -- turns out she's a character in a romance manga, but not even the heroine-- just a side character. in order to change her fate, she enlists the help of 13 -- a nameless background character. so cute, quirky, and highly HIGHLY addicting. loving meta parody of high school shoujo stories like Boys Over Flowers.
bonus, because they were REALLY close to top 5: beyond evil (serial murder? in a small village? more homoerotic than you'd think.), arthdal chronicles (bronze age-esque fantasy epic with more ambiguous leads than you can shake a stick at), and happiness (when you have to stop the zombie apocalypse but there's only one bed)
