01: Do you have a good relationship with your parents? Hm, yes, but in an unconventional way. My dad tends to disappear frequently, usually off in adventures somewhere in Latin America without giving notice or just doesn’t call for several weeks even if we live only a half hour away from each other lmao. I’m a grown woman though so it’s not like his absence is negatively affecting me. I do miss him sometimes but I know that he’ll always come back. I’m closer with my mom but that doesn’t mean I love her more. We don’t call/text daily either but that’s because I just am not the kind of person to talk to ANYONE daily. I’m even like that with my live-in partner lol. I’m a solitary person.

28: Have you ever been cheated on? Yes but they were very short-lived relationships so I’m kinda glad that they didn’t waste my time any further.  I have an amazing bf now/

Hahaha thanks! Truth is, he is rather pure. He's such a blank slate. And just as he himself had said, Kenshin was far crueller than Shishio; Shishio told him this is the truth kid, and he lapped it up because his sanity depended on it. But Kenshin said this is what's up kid, decide yourself and that prompted him to search himself. True true Neutral characteristic because after all he didn't immediately sever his bond with Shishio. Despite running away, he still helped him by telling him the tip with the foot.

My Appreciation

I’m not really good at this, so bear with me, please! :)

I came to the Hakuouki fandom early this year and kind of stayed in the shadows until...two, three months ago? Since then, I have “met” some wonderful people who contribute so much, not only in stories and art, but in all sorts of ways. So, while this is supposed to be like a fanfiction appreciation post, I’m just going to make it a general appreciation post. Hope that’s okay! :P

Is Kaoru samurai?

There is such a big deal made over Yahiko’s heritage in the anime/manga, and it’s very clear that his father was samurai. But there don’t seem to be any such references to Kaoru’s heritage (at least in the translations I’ve seen - if you have others, please point me there!). 

Kaoru’s grandfather was a swordsman and an artist - bushi were very into “the art of the pen and the art of the sword”, so are we to surmise that Kaoru’s forefathers were also samurai, based on the fact that he was a swordsman and an ink painter? We know her family owned the little place in Tokyo, but it’s pretty run down - that is just because she was on her own with very little income, or because her family was poor, and not of the samurai class before the revolution?

What I remeber about Koshijiro and double checked on the rurouken wiki was he wasa swordsman that fought on the side of the Ishin Shishi, founded his own school, and was killed in the Seinan wars. My understanding is that this is the info we get from Kenshin Kaden but… was he samurai? Was he ronin? What do we think? Is this obvious if you’re from Japan, but not so obvious if you’re from the US?

This is something I’ve always wondered, and I think my main confusion always came from the fact that Yahiko was made out to be samurai but Kaoru wasn’t. Would our resident Japanese culture/history/etc buffs @animaniacal, @kakikaeru (I know you’ve written a whole world on the premise that she is samurai!) @mysteriouslysaltytragedy, or anyone else be willing to weigh in on this? Or be willing to share some reading material perhaps? I love reading material.

I do not follow YOI, although considering how beloved it is, I do plan to watch it eventually. Being said, I notice in everyone's posting that their rings are on the right hand. Doesn't that... imply something? What does everyone think of that?

wedding customs in russia have the rings on the right hand, and victor is a russian character - it’s also not entirely uncommon for gay couples who are engaged to wear rings on the right and switch them over to the left after they’re legally married.
