RWBY X Justice League... TWO!
Gonna do another liveblog while killing some time. Here goes!
-cut for length-
UHD is 480p? This movie has been out for two weeks and it's not 1080? I thought the first one was only that way bc I got it day-of!
Ugh, I wont get mad over it. The YT edition gave me trouble the last time too - let's just see how it goes.
Recap! Took me a minute to realize this is the Weiss vs Bruce music from the first movie - which is definitely the closest we've gotten to classic RWBY music.
"'Grimm' as in, "The Brothers"?" For half a second I thought she was referring to the Gods of Light and Dark but no as in the authors 'Brothers Grimm' because the DC universe is supposed to be Earth and fairytales are just fairytales here. Are they gonna lean more into the allusion aspect of RWBY et. al now that we have a world where Red Riding Hood and the others are just stories?
Jurassic Park moment with the Pterrorsaur. Except this time they can literally smell fear.
Epic Ruby moment vs the Taijitu (first time in Maya), love how creative the fights are.
Grimm on Earth turn to gunk? Hopefully it's just goo and not regeneration-goo (like the Wyvern 'Blood' in v3).
Ooh, when the Kilg%re/Goliath gets punched the cracks are yellow. Color scheme: red, white, black, yellow.
When I saw the flash of purple tailing Batman I thought TYRIAN!? Nope, it's just a Scorpion with a modified tail... suspiciously like Tyrian's. Guess Watts is involved after all.
Saw this preview clip, but ow. Weiss is still hurting from losing Atlas, and I honestly don't blame her. That was her home, and it's straight up gone. Glad to see this carry through from v9, as well as Ruby's post-renewal mindset.
Voice changer to keep the mystery voice a mystery.
Mmm Flash angst. Reminds me of v9 Jaune. Blond boys get no sleep.
Had to pause on Weiss' contacts screen and I love that shes got all her teammates, all her family, and Maria just, lurking. Lol
Tumblr media
Clearly Maria has her own scroll but I do have to wonder how good she is at tech things given she has such a close-cropped image. Or maybe she doesn't give a shit XD.
Love love love that conversation with Klein, I love that this is the direction of Weiss' character arc and I love that daddy issues whammy of 'He abandoned Atlas long before it fell.' 'Do you mean Atlas, or your family?'
Time dilation double pun. The 'when you are needed most' line at the end of v9 and Weiss being the one saying 'we have experience with that' considering one of her glyphs is Time Dilation.
Blake breaking down the door feat. Yang's flirty wink.
XD Ruby entering the portal in style
We finally got a 'not in Kansas anymore' referenceeeee.
Oh, split up along Weiss/Blake and Yang/Ruby this time, glad to see it! Time for sisterly conflict.
Heh. Joker and Harley watching the city burn.
Oh now I see why Blake went to Gotham. Cat. Bat. "This is where he's from. I get it now."
The way Ruby just knew that she'd still be able to move like she did on Remnant. My girl. (Was worried for a sec she was gonna try to Silver Eyes it and that would fail)
"You learn not to question Flash's villain roster." That got a laugh out of me and I don't even know about Flash's lore.
Something about Weiss mentioning "Mr Freeze" while dressed as an Ice Princess is funny to me.
The particles on Blake and Jessica's fist bump :D
Aw man, it IS regeneration goop!
I guess 'consciousness is stored' is how we can get Watts in a post-v9 crossover. Technomagic stuff.
Weiss proving she's the queen.
Hope Cyborg isn't corrupted.
Love this Cobra/Dragonfly grimm. Clip it's wings!
'We need more firepower.' Enter Yang with an epic save.
Hold on, are Yang's flame punches the color of the lesbian flag?
Are we gonna a get a 'speedsters need to slow down' moral here? With Flash also rushing into danger and nearly getting killed?
Anyway, planning session time.
The truth revealed.
Honestly, 'no body no death' kinda applies here like we KNOW that Watts died either burning to death via Cinder's wish or when Atlas fell but he was surrounded by computers at the time as well. It could have literally been the last thing he ever did. (Or he did it during v7 since he already wormed his way into the Atlas network via Jacques).
Via Jacques. Man. Watts really is Weiss's personal villain.
The whole 'transferring consciousness' thing also reeks of the Aura Transfer machines used on the Maidens, but I always assumed that was Pietro's invention so he could give life to Penny. Maybe Watts stole or twisted the concept for his own use.
Yang seeing the Ruby in Flash mmmmm. The way he looks at her arm and asks 'what happened?' and Yang explains how she felt ooooooooo. Flash explaining that Kilgore is no longer in his brain but he hears and sees him all the time.
Blonde PTSD buddies WOOOO-
Meanwhile Ruby and Clark orphan bonding. Not entirely sure how Ruby will take the 'I make my parents proud for fighting for the things they died for'
Also given that some of Summer's first "lines" in the show was Red Like Roses Part 2 "baby please don't do what I did/I don't want you to waste your life in vain"
And on that somber note -break time!

Jeez how did I never noticed Kaitou Joker season 1 & 2 Opening isn't exactly the same- (the same can be said for season 3 & 4 OP.)
Time to ramble I guess!
Reminder once again that this is just a ramble and not a professional-level analysis
Wasn't going to dive too deep on the changes at first, but I probably still will accidentally rambles. So!
OP 1 & 2 doesn't have that much difference, only the flash of some episode from season 1 changed to season 2.
The next difference is the main cast spotlight, whereas the season 1 spotlight is 1 character per beat; Joker, Hachi, Spade and Queen. Season 2 do 2 Characters instead, Joker + Hachi, Spade + Dark Eye, Queen + Roko and leaving one open space filled none other than Shadow + Rose.
I think what's interesting on this is Shadow filling Queen previous spot, Queen in S1 look midly mysterious because she's the main focus that season. Replacing her with Shadow (+Rose) is like saying he's the focus for S2 which is yes, true.
The last difference is the last panel, nothing big, just different pose of the main cast, S2 do look more cleaner though.
Season 3 & 4 meanwhile is more noticable.
Another main cast spotlight but S3 & S4 pose changes minorly, mostly mirrored and slight movement difference (S4 is more comedic with Hachi slipping off banana and SH back's acting up). It do make me wonder why they changes it though, such a little detail not a lot would pick up.
The next scene is Joker zoomed on-beat, it's barely noticable but the season 4 frame have that colorful tint along the line.
Another Cast spotlight but this one is for the side-character (or reoccurring) for the respective season.
Immediately Phoenix catches my attention, the difference between the two are not that different but it is interesting; the Phoenix form and Human form switching places, S3 Akai Tsubasa at first is infront while S4 Phoenix is Infront instead. Probably highlighting what we know (or don't in the case of S3) about Phoenix, S3 we barely know him and assume his human form is the default before S3 Finale drops and reveals the otherwise (Phoenix form is his default one instead).
The one that follows after Phoenix is Commando Satsuko & Ali Baba to Commando Satsuko & Mr. Kaneari, Probably to display that they do get married, shoving Ali baba aside bcs he's only appeared in one episode.
Thirdly is Capt. Blue, Hayami and Rainbow Justice to Chappa, Hyakkimaru and Younger Ai. Three characters that got introduced in S3 replaced by a new character in S4 and surprisingly Hyakkimaru! A pre-existing character that plays an important role is S4, Would say that's interesting. Not forgetting Younger Ai, which backstory appeared on S4 instead of the earlier season like the other main cast.
Shadow and Rose is next on the list! Nothing much beside Shadow looking more friendly(?) And Rose being in-front in S4. S3 Shadow look either angry or smiling I'm unsure but the gaze definitely is more intense, if it is an angry expression this could be a way to highlight the development of being calmer in the fourth Season.
Now for a more noticeable changes, the Devil fang member to Agent Purple (in her prime), Doctor Neo and a striking silhouette of Genma. This most likely display the threats and enemy they're fighting, from the "Bounty Hunters" to Doctor Neo and Genma. It's interesting though to see Purple as an ally is there. Maybe to show the connection between her and Neo? Another interesting thing is how menacing Genma is, with such a little screentime yet massive impact on the story.
President D afterward only changes pose, from being darkened by the shadow to being closer on the screen. Maybe to show him being more directly involved in the story, and also the apple seems to be highlighted (if you know, you know).
Hoshi zooming in and being mirrored in S3 to S4 and title screen.
S3 & S4 stayed the same until that part where all of Joker enemy slides in the background again S3 are the DF Members; Red Scorpion, Nightmare, Candy and Spider Ace. S4 being Doctor Neo and Genma again, but uniquely Red Scorpion and Spider Ace pops up again, most likely because they do appear again.
Finally! The last Frame changes from the Main Cast + Hosshi to Almost every important character in one screen.
That's all! Thank you for staying on another ramble of mine!! Feel free to tell me if I missed anything.
Ps. Will edit the post from time to time, mostly for some grammar corrections
Also Happy birthday Joker/Jack Jones!!

Game Awards highlights
Highlights of the awards are as follows: Roger Clark (Arthur Morgan) won best voice actor, God of War stole Game of the Year from RDR2 as well as best game direction. Fear not, Red Dead did take the award for best narrative, score, and audio design. Celeste won best indie. Deadcells snuck away with best action game. Monster Hunter World took best RPG and...I agree but I also think Nino Kuni, Octopath, Pillars of Eternity and Dragon Quest 11 fans are rightfully mad. Dragon Ball FighterZ takes best fighting game. Fortnite took best multiplayer game, shocker.
What I wanted to talk about were the announcements and trailers that came between the commercials and cringe-inducing antics of the event. There wasn’t a lot going on but what was announced was very interesting.
Atlas: Pirates and cannons do not excite me, seafaring and swashbuckling just does nothing for me. All that said...wow Atlas really looks impressive. Made by Wildcard and the team consists of many people who put Ark together. This appears to be a full pirate sim mmorpg that plans to hold 40,000 people on one server. Yes. Forty thousand. Is that MAG level hype? Yeah that and then some. This seems to be one of those situations where a game comes out, it flops, and another studio swoops in to capitalize on the disappointment (see Fortnite to PUBG, 2k to Live, FIFA to PES etc). That game I’m referring to is Sea of Thieves and Wildcard appear to be working hard on making the game Sea of Thieves should’ve been. You can watch a trailer here.
MK11: I am so conflicted by this trailer, lemme tell ya. The actual look of the CG trailer was nice, visceral, even cheeky at some points (awful big emphasis on weapons in that trailer). Another obscure and mysterious aspect of this game is time and how that plays into characters and the story potentially. New Scorpion is killed by Evil Raiden, only to be killed by Old Scorpion himself...hmm. Now that makes me think. It was a quintessential Mortal Kombat trailer top to...wait...is that 21 Savage playing in the background?? The song choice did not fit at all, it was like someone at NetherRealms plugged in their phone last minute to compensate for a glitched audio. Literally, anything would’ve been better, Wu-Tang, Freddie Gibbs, Earl Sweatshirt if you had to go the rap route. Yeah, I could be making a big deal out of nothing but I’ve also seen games make unnecessary focus on soundtrack and losing focus on the actual game. All in all, interesting. trailer here
Marvel Ultimate Alliance 3: Oh boy, oh fucking boy. X-men Legends (stick with me here) was the first of top-down arcade hero brawler type that really got my jimmies jumping. So when Marvel Ultimate Alliance came out it was something of a true actualization of what me and my friends thought up back when Legends came out. Two titles, both of which I owned and played through thoroughly unlocking characters and finding cheats. So imagine my surprise when initially I think this is the Marvel Avengers project by Square Enix. No! Wrong! Bad Chayton! It’s UA3 by...Ninja Theory?! What is going on? We got a little gameplay that unfortunately didn’t look too impressive. I’m still excited and with it being a Switch exclusive...I just have more reason to get one. trailer here. Speaking of reasons to get a Switch...
Joker joins the battle: Hi, huge Persona 5 fan here. Very excited to see our boy join the scuffle. He will be included as a DLC character (meh) but it raises some very interesting questions as to who else could be added. Goku confirmed! really cute trailer here
Far Cry “New Dawn”: This screamed Rage 2 to me. It is a cool idea to play so directly off the last released Far Cry title. I’m sure the games are going to be very different but the trailer seemed to take direct influence down to the shade of pink they used in their cooky-wacky post-apocalyptic looking setting. The game will even have you run into Joseph Seed and this is where I think it will diverge heavily and start to focus more on the Far Cry aspects of the game. Interesting villains as per usual but I’m hesitant. Even if it’s an expansion from FC4. trailer here
Rage 2: Now this is the post-apocalyptic open world I am looking forward to exploring. As I have stated before, Rage was underwhelming but had potential, this new trailer expanded upon what was already explored but didn’t really show off anything new. Regardless of the utter turmoil BGS seems to be in I am still excited to get my hands on this game and rip shit up .trailer here
Psychonauts 2: This is big, many many fans have been dying to see where Rasputin’s adventures take him. The look hasn’t changed much, but the polish of modern tech is doing wonders for the world of Psychonauts. We don’t get much info but just the glimpse is more than enough to get me thinking about the possibilities. trailer here
Dragon Age 4 teaser: this is a teaster trailer for Dragon Age 4... not much more to it. trailer here
The Outer Worlds: This is the big one, Obsidian are coming out the gate hard. In the wake of Fallout76 this was the last thing Bethesda could afford; for another studio to come along and do their games better than them. A space oriented RPG that appears to focus heavily on decision-making and character development. Two staples of Obsidian games that I can’t wait to take part in when this bad boy drops. With Obsidian being acquired by Microsoft I was concered this would be an exclusive but thankfully they can’t deny the PS4 audience, at least this time. Next gen (or title even) we might not be so lucky. trailer here

off the rack #1277
Monday, September 2, 2019
Happy Labour Day. Not doing much labour today after two tough days of fishing in the wind. I was out on the Ottawa River with a friend and his young son on Saturday. We took shelter in the Nation River where it wasn't so blustery. I managed to catch an albino pike in the muddy water there. I wish my guests had better luck. I was out on Mississippi Lake yesterday and we were being blown hither and yon again. We found a little refuge in the lee of an island where I caught a little pike, what anglers call a hammer handle. I also had two larger fish on but they got off my barbless hooks before we could see what they were. It's a big lake and I'll be back exploring it again another day.
There are too many comic books on the racks these days. I've been complaining about this for a long time. I love the diversity and variety but if I had to buy the books that I read I couldn't afford it all. If you count the variant covers there are around 100 new books that hit the racks every week. That's mind bogglingly overwhelming to me. Not only that, but it's hard to keep track of everybody. When I started reading comic books there was only one Spider-Man. Now we have three major Spider-Mans and I'm not even counting the clones and ones from the future and other dimensions. How about how many Robins are flying around these days? At least old Robins have evolved into other characters. How is a new reader supposed to distinguish the Spider-Man in New York City to the one in San Francisco just from flipping through the pages? Yeah, okay, one's Amazing and the other is Superior. It's must be daunting to people who want to try reading comic books to follow a book and I'm sure the confusion doesn't help things. I'm pining for the good old days when you didn't need a full time job to afford buying comic books and you didn't have to remember which Batman you are reading about.
House of X #3 - Jonathan Hickman (writer) Pepe Larraz (art) Marte Gracia (colours) VC's Clayton Cowles (letters). Okay, the ultimate goal of the Mutant Nation is to prevent Nimrod from coming into existence. If you've been reading Powers of X you know that they failed. This does not mean that these stories are boring. Cyclops and his team go on a mission to stop a space station from completing their development of a Sentinel factory. It's still exciting to see these X-Men in action. The trial of a mutant at the super max prison for mutants was a fun scene.
Thor #16 - Jason Aaron (writer) Mike del Mundo (art) Mike del Mundo & Marco D'Alfonso (colours) VC's Joe Sabino (letters). This issue is a most excellent epilogue to the War of the Realms and sets up the next chapter of the life of Thor. I can't wait for King Thor #1 to hit the racks on September 11.
Detective Comics #1010 - Peter J. Tomasi (writer) Christian Duce (art) David Baron (colours) Rob Leigh (letters). There's a big boo-boo in this story where Bruce Wayne has to fight Deadshot after a plane crash onto a somewhat deserted island. Why would he wear a disguise that makes him look like Batman? Didn't think things through there, did you Bruce?
The Amazing Spider-Man #28 - Nick Spencer (writer) Kev Walker (pencils) John Dell (inks) Laura Martin & Andrew Crossley (colours) VC's Joe Caramagna (letters). Spider-Man's team up with Boomerang and their run in with the Syndicate comes to an end and almost everyone lives happily ever after. Except for Peter Parker, of course. I've been thinking of benching this book but this fun issue changed my mind.
Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man #11 - Tom Taylor (writer) Juann Cabal (art) Rachelle Rosenberg (colours) VC's Travis Lanham (letters). If I ever do stop reading the Amazing Spider-Man this title will more than pick up the slack. Here we have a story that ties into the end of the War of the Realms. Mary Jane has an adventure while Peter is resting. I love that they are a couple again.
Absolute Carnage #2 - Donny Cates (writer) Ryan Stegman (pencils) JP Mayer (inks) Frank Martin (colours) VC's Clayton Cowles (letters). Venom and Spider-Man split up to gather reinforcements to fight the Carnage epidemic. The issue ends with Venom trying to save the Scorpion and Miles but the odds against the good guys are enormous. I almost decided to step away from this mega event while reading the first page of this issue because it focused on what Carnage's ultimate goal is. Mindless killing isn't appealing to me. I'm glad the Carnage sequences aren't the main part of this book.
Runaways #24 - Rainbow Rowell (writer) Andre Genolet (art) Matthew Wilson (colours) VC's Joe Caramagna (letters). Karolina and Nico don masks and costumes to go out and fight crime in Los Angeles. There isn't a lot of action until the end but then things get very interesting. I can't wait to find out who the caped crusader is.
Spider-Man Life Story #6 - Chip Zdarsky (writer) Mark Bagley (pencils) Andrew Hennessy (inks) Frank D'Armata (colours) VC's Travis Lanham (letters). And so this 6-issue mini ends in 2019 with Peter Parker and Miles Morales saving the world from Doctor Doom. It was cool how Chip used 50 years of Marvel continuity to tell this Spider-Man story and end it with a life well lived. May Peter Parker rest in peace.
Marvel Team-Up #5 - Clint McElroy (writer) Ig Guara (art) Felipe Sobreiro (colours) VC's Clayton Cowles (letters). This Ms. Marvel and Captain Marvel team-up story is really freaking good. The arrival of more Kree warriors on the last page means that there will be plenty of action next issue. I'm going to be looking for Clint McElroy's name on the racks now because this story has impressed me all to heck.
Marvel Comics #1000 - I'm not going to list all 137 creators names. The back cover has them in alphabetical order and there is a one and a half page listing of the writers, penciller, inkers, colourists and letterers in the back of this ginormous book. I had a better time reading this than the first issue of the History of Marvel Comics. It was a pleasant walk down memory lane for this Marvel Maniac. The Eternity Mask is introduced and a new character named the Raider makes an appearance. My favourite pages were the ones with Deadpool. There's a lot crammed into this book but if you've been a Marvel reader for as long as I have you'll realize that there's a lot missing too. You'll more than get your money's worth for $9.99 US.
Action Comics #1014 - Brian Michael Bendis (writer) Szymon Kudranski (art) Brad Anderson (colours) Rob Leigh (letters). They sure are milking this Leviathan mystery for all its worth. If you're anticipating a big battle between Superman and the Red Cloud based on the cover you'll be sadly disappointed. The crimson criminal only appears on two pages and she's attacking somebody else. The big surprise happens on the last page with a patented Bendis cliffhanger. The new owner of the Daily Planet will be played in the movie by Orpah Winfrey.
Fantastic Four 4 Yancy Street #1 - Gerry Duggan (writer) Greg Smallwood, Mark Bagley, Luciano Vecchio & Pere Perez (art) Greg Smallwood & Erick Arciniega (colours) VC's Joe Caramagna (letters). This one shot was enlightening for some new details shown of Ben Grimm's youth on Yancy Street. Who knew Doc Doom was a practical joker?
Batman Superman #1 - Joshua Williamson (writer) David Marquez (art) Alejandro Sanchez (colours) John J. Hill (letters). It's the World's Finest team versus the Batman Who Laughs. The super villain killed all the heroes and villains in his home dimension before coming to ours. He can infect anybody and turn them evil ala the Joker. It's a simple concept and Batman and Superman must find a way to stop the plague. The really bad news is that some of their allies could be infected and we find out the first one at the end of this issue. Even without the nice art by David Marquez, there's enough here to make me want to keep reading.
Absolute Carnage Miles Morales #1 - Saladin Ahmed (writer) Federico Vicentini (art) Erick Arciniega (colours) VC's Cory Petit (letters). I'm only reading this 3-issue spin off because it's about Miles. Carnage is going around killing everybody who had ever been infected by his symbiote. The Scorpion was a victim and Miles just happens to be fighting the super villain when Carnage and his minions show up. This issue doesn't end well for the young hero. I want to see how Miles gets back to normal again so I'll read the rest.
Avengers #23 - Jason Aaron (writer) Stefano Caselli (art) Jason Keith (colours) VC's Cory Petit (letters). In part 2 of "Challenge of the Ghost Riders" we learn what demonic being has taken possession of Avengers headquarters. Meanwhile Robby Reyes races against Johnny Blaze in hell. I'm learning more about the Ghost Riders that I ever wanted to know.
