Skinwalker Ranch, a remote property in northeastern Utah, has become one of the most infamous and mysterious sites of alleged paranormal activity in the United States. Spanning approximately 512 acres, the ranch has been the focus of countless stories involving UFO sightings, strange creatures, poltergeist-like phenomena, and unexplained cattle mutilations. For decades, it has attracted the attention of scientists, researchers, and enthusiasts of the unexplained, earning its place as a central figure in the lore of the paranormal.
The ranch's name is derived from the Navajo legend of the skinwalker, a malevolent witch capable of transforming into, possessing, or disguising themselves as an animal. According to Navajo folklore, skinwalkers are dangerous beings that use their shape-shifting abilities to cause harm and spread fear. The Ute tribe, who reside in the region, have long spoken of the land where the ranch is located as being cursed and avoid it whenever possible. The Utes believe that the Navajo sent skinwalkers to curse the Utes after a conflict between the two tribes, and that these entities continue to inhabit the area to this day.
The ranch first gained widespread attention in the 1990s when Terry and Gwen Sherman purchased the property in 1994. The Shermans quickly began experiencing strange and terrifying events. They reported seeing large, wolf-like creatures that were unaffected by bullets, mysterious lights in the sky, and crop circles appearing overnight. Perhaps most disturbingly, they encountered instances of cattle mutilations, with several of their livestock found dead and mutilated in ways that defied explanation—often with precise, surgical cuts and no blood at the scene.
The Shermans also described poltergeist-like activities within their home, such as objects moving on their own, strange voices, and even the sudden appearance of unfamiliar and disorienting odors. Despite their initial skepticism, the sheer volume and intensity of these experiences led the family to believe that something supernatural was at play. After only 18 months, the Shermans sold the ranch.
In 1996, Robert Bigelow, a billionaire businessman with a keen interest in the paranormal, purchased Skinwalker Ranch. Bigelow founded the National Institute for Discovery Science (NIDS), a research organization dedicated to investigating paranormal phenomena. Bigelow's team of scientists, including physicists, biologists, and other experts, spent years studying the ranch in an attempt to uncover the truth behind the strange occurrences.
Despite employing sophisticated equipment and extensive surveillance, the NIDS team was often frustrated in their efforts to capture definitive evidence. The phenomena were elusive, frequently occurring just out of view or in ways that defied scientific analysis. Nevertheless, the team documented numerous instances of high strangeness, including bizarre animal sightings, unusual electromagnetic readings, and unexplained lights and aerial phenomena. The ranch seemed to be a hotspot for what many called a "paranormal stew," with a wide range of inexplicable events occurring simultaneously.
Over the years, numerous theories have been proposed to explain the mysteries of Skinwalker Ranch. Some suggest that the area is a portal or vortex to another dimension, where entities and phenomena from other realities bleed into our own. Others believe that the ranch may be a site of advanced extraterrestrial activity, with UFOs and alien beings using the area for unknown purposes. There are also those who think that the ranch's strangeness could be the result of secret government experiments or technologies being tested in the remote location.
Skeptics, however, argue that the stories of Skinwalker Ranch are exaggerated or fabricated, fueled by a mix of folklore, psychological phenomena, and the power of suggestion. They point to the lack of concrete evidence and the often anecdotal nature of the reports as reasons to question the legitimacy of the claims.

Scary Events Caught on Camera: A Terrifying Glimpse into the Unexplained
In our modern age of ubiquitous surveillance and easily accessible recording devices, we have been given a front-row seat to the unexplained and the eerie. Scary events caught on camera have become a staple of internet culture, captivating millions with their spine-tingling mysteries and unsettling visuals. In this exploration, we will delve into some of the most chilling and inexplicable occurrences ever captured on film.
Tumblr media
The Elisa Lam Elevator Incident:
The Cecil Hotel in Los Angeles gained infamy due to the mysterious death of Elisa Lam in 2013. However, it was a surveillance video from the hotel's elevator that sent shivers down the spines of viewers worldwide. The footage shows Lam behaving erratically, as if she's interacting with someone or something unseen. She presses multiple elevator buttons, steps in and out, and even peeks her head out of the door, seemingly checking for someone. Eventually, she exits the elevator, and this is the last time she was seen alive.
Lam's lifeless body was found weeks later in the hotel's rooftop water tank, adding to the mystery of how she got there. To this day, her bizarre elevator behavior remains unexplained, fueling countless theories and speculations.
Tumblr media
The Dyatlov Pass Incident:
In 1959, a group of experienced hikers embarked on a trip to the Ural Mountains in Russia. What should have been a routine expedition turned into a chilling mystery when their bodies were discovered in a remote area. The scene was gruesome, with the hikers' tent slashed from the inside and their bodies scattered in the snow, some with severe injuries.
The most perplexing aspect is the bizarre photographs found on their cameras. Some show their campsite, but others reveal eerie orbs of light in the night sky, adding an otherworldly element to the tragedy. The exact cause of their deaths remains unsolved, with theories ranging from avalanches to military involvement to extraterrestrial encounters.
Tumblr media
The Phoenix Lights:
On March 13, 1997, thousands of residents in Phoenix, Arizona, witnessed a series of mysterious lights in the night sky. These lights appeared to form a V-shaped pattern and were seen by people from all walks of life, including then-Governor Fife Symington. Despite initial explanations of military flares, the event remains an enduring UFO mystery.
What makes this case even more unsettling is the abundance of amateur videos and photographs capturing the event. The sheer number of witnesses and the consistency of their descriptions defy easy dismissal, leaving many wondering if we truly encountered something not of this world.
Tumblr media
The Skinwalker Ranch:
The Skinwalker Ranch in Utah has been a hotbed of paranormal activity for decades. Numerous eerie events have been reported on this property, including UFO sightings, strange creatures, and poltergeist-like phenomena. One of the most disturbing pieces of evidence is the collection of videos captured by previous owners and researchers.
These videos include inexplicable lights in the sky, strange creatures lurking in the darkness, and even bizarre injuries sustained by livestock. The unsettling nature of these events has led some to believe that the ranch is a hot spot for interdimensional or extraterrestrial activity.
Tumblr media
The Black-Eyed Children:
The phenomenon of the Black-Eyed Children has become a chilling internet legend. These sinister-looking children with pitch-black eyes reportedly appear at people's homes, asking for help or entry. Several security cameras have captured these eerie encounters, showing the pale, emotionless faces and inky black eyes of these supposed children.
While skeptics argue that these sightings are hoaxes or urban legends, the videos and accounts of those who claim to have encountered these beings continue to send shivers down the spines of many.
Tumblr media
The Ghostly Hitchhiker:
Ghostly apparitions and haunted locations have been a staple of paranormal investigation for years. However, few events have been as captivating as the footage captured by dashcams and surveillance cameras. These cameras have documented unexplained apparitions, shadowy figures, and eerie occurrences in supposedly haunted locations.
One example is the footage from a dashboard camera that captured a shadowy figure appearing on a dark, desolate road. The figure, described as a hitchhiker, seemed to materialize out of thin air before disappearing again. Such incidents challenge our understanding of the natural world and invite us to consider the existence of entities beyond our comprehension.
Tumblr media
The Exorcism of Anneliese Michel:
The case of Anneliese Michel, a young German woman who underwent a series of exorcisms in the 1970s, remains one of the most disturbing and controversial cases in the history of possession and exorcism. The chilling audio recordings made during these exorcisms provide a spine-tingling glimpse into the depths of her torment.
>>>>Watch this scary video>>>>
These recordings capture Anneliese's guttural, inhuman voices, violent outbursts, and the desperation of the priests attempting to rid her of the malevolent entities they believed possessed her. Regardless of one's beliefs, these recordings are deeply unsettling and raise profound questions about the nature of evil and the human psyche.
Tumblr media
The Ouija Board Possession:
Ouija boards are often associated with paranormal experiences, and some videos seem to provide eerie evidence of their power. One such video shows a group of people using a Ouija board to communicate with a spirit. As they ask questions, the planchette moves erratically, spelling out chilling messages.
The video takes a terrifying turn when one of the participants becomes possessed by an unseen force, exhibiting unnatural movements and a disturbing, guttural voice. The video serves as a stark warning about the potential dangers of dabbling in the supernatural.
In conclusion, the advent of cameras and recording devices has given us unprecedented access to the unexplained and the terrifying. Scary events captured on camera challenge our understanding of reality and invite us to contemplate the mysteries that lie beyond our comprehension. These chilling moments, whether paranormal, extraterrestrial, or simply unexplained, continue to captivate and haunt us, reminding us that there are still realms of the unknown waiting to be explored.

Everything You NEED To Know About Skinwalker Ranch, And The 4 Craziest Sightings Of Skinwalkers That Will Make You Lie Down And Cry
In case you couldn’t tell, I’m kinnnnnda obsessed with the paranormal.
Spirits, UFOs, and urban legends often make an appearance on my blog, as do the places that claim to home them. But there’s a small ranch in southern Utah that claims to be a hotspot for all of this activity.
Yep - all of it.
For decades Skinwalker Ranch has been visited by paranormal investigators, scientists, and tourists looking to catch a glimpse of the mutilated cattle littering the land, the humanoid creatures lingering in the trees, and the UFOs flying overhead. And for decades they’ve been capturing evidence of the supernatural phenomena that allegedly takes place here.
But the thing is, the Uinta Basin - the region of Utah where the ranch is located - is also known for its widespread supernatural activity. It’s even earnt a reputation for being one of the most mysterious places on the planet alongside locations like Area 51 and Stonehenge.
Countless camera crews have ventured beyond the appropriately themed gates of the ranch and have spewed out movies, documentaries, and TV programmes that all aim to capture what is going on at Skinwalker Ranch and why.
And I think it’s time we explored the ranch together…
Tumblr media
Welcome to Skinwalker Ranch (or Sherman Ranch), a 512-acre property just outside of the city of Ballard, Utah. The ranch first shot to fame in 1996 when it made its media debut in Deseret News, the local newspaper. You see, the family that owned it began to witness peculiar - and petrifying - events.
In the late 90s, the ranch belonged to Terry and Gwen Sherman and they gave the exclusive to the paper.
“For a long time we wondered what we were seeing, if it was something to do with a top-secret project… I don’t know really what to think about it.”
What the Sherman’s were seeing was a huge range of inexplicable events. They claimed to have seen at least 3 different types of UFO, found several mutilated cattle, and failed to find others. One of the cattle, in particular, was discovered with a strange injury: there was a hole in the centre of one of its eyes, but it exhibited no signs of a struggle, other injuries, or even blood.
The Shermans - like the tourists and investigators to follow - saw a vast array of UFO activity at this location within their short 15 month stay. There was a small box-like craft which emitted a bright, white light; there was an (estimated) 40-foot long object floating in the sky; and there was a huge spacecraft they claimed was the size of several football fields that soared above them. If these UFOs weren’t terrifying enough, they’ve also reported strange lights in the sky. One of them even followed Gwen when she drove back from work one evening.
But you don’t have to look up if you want to see somethin’ spooky.
On one occasion the family discovered 3 circles of flattened grass. Each topped 8 feet in diameter and were 30 feet apart. They’ve also seen smaller versions of the crop circle pattern they found.
Nevertheless, the Sherman’s haven’t just seen the activity - Terry thinks he’s heard the aliens/spirits/skinwalkers behind it, too. On one daily dog walk, Terry heard male voices speaking. They were speaking above him. He estimates they were 25 feet up in the air but saw nothing. The erratic and frantic behaviour of the dogs, however, suggests he was not the only one to think something was afoot.
The Sherman family were not the only ones to report such activity. Terry shared his findings and experiences with other ranchers in the area and they confirmed that they had seen the same things.
Tumblr media
These shared experiences go beyond the local area; they span the entire Uinta Basin. According to a local UFO-investigator, Joseph Hicks, there had been 1000s of sightings of UFOs in this region since the 1950s. He had personally investigated over 400 of them.
Hicks summarised his findings: those who saw UFOs reported seeing living beings in the windows or the porthole of the ships they say. And apparently, over 10% of those living in this region have seen something paranormal.
"You can't throw a rock in southern Utah without hitting somebody who's been abducted”
- Trent Harris, a local filmmaker
In fact, some of the most famous sightings of UFOs have taken place here such as a Navy officer capturing footage of flying discs near Tremonton in 1952 and one woman claiming she was even abducted by aliens that visited the region in 1973. There are far more stories to be told, but that’s for another post.
The Sherman’s only stayed on the ranch until 1996 before handing it over to Robert Bigelow, the founder of National Institute for Discovery Science who would own the ranch for the following 20 years. Very little has been made public about what was discovered during this time, but we do know Bigelow and his team of scientists did connect with a Pentagram programme that investigated the paranormal.
Brandon Fugal bought the ranch in 2016 and he continued the scientific investigations into the paranormal activity taking place at the ranch.
24/7 monitoring conducted by various cameras and sensors has captured a serious of unexplained events including evidence of mysterious energy sources that float above the ground. Could these be portals to another realm? Or something else entirely?
Despite the latest efforts to capture evidence of the supernatural, it can actually be traced back to the 1800s. Legend has it a curse was placed on the land Skinwalker Ranch now sits on by the shaman of the Native American Najavo tribe following a dispute with the Utes (another tribe). The curse was a demonic being that could shapeshift into different predators.
It was called a skinwalker.
What is a skinwalker?
According to Navajo culture, a skinwalker is a dangerous witch that can turn into an animal (they either shapeshift into, possess, or disguise themselves as a predatory animal).
The yee naaldlooshii as they are also known aim to cause harm or misfortune to others. These ‘evil’ witches co-exist with the other forces of good in Navajo culture. They believe spiritual powers can be used for good or for evil, with medicine men being the polar opposites of the skinwalkers as they use their abilities to heal.
The skinwalker practice is a part of ‘Witchery Way’ where human corpses are used to curse and harm victims. A number of other Native American tribes have their own take on a skinwalker, but they go by different names.
In order to become a skinwalker, one must follow a simple but bloody initiation: they must kill a family member. Then they acquire their new powers of transformation. To match their new abilities, they can sometimes wear the skins of the animals they shape shift into, and these, uhh, accessories can strengthen their power.
It’s for this reason that the Navajo don’t wear predatory animal pelts.
Tumblr media
Skinwalkers use their powers not only to cause misfortune but to collect ingredients for black magic (so for more misfortune, it’s just one big circle of evil). They can control people and animals and have been blamed throughout history for drought, disease, death. The death of livestock is another crisis often pinned on these witches, and I don’t think it’s a coincidence that dead, mutilated, and missing cattle are a prominent feature of the paranormal reports that come out of Skinwalker Ranch.
The only way to tell if a predatory creature coming towards you is actually a witch is by their glowing red eyes or humanoid features.
What paranormal activity has been reported here?
Skinwalker Ranch is one of the famous haunted locations on the planet. She’s featured in at least seven TV series and films that have all attempted to get to the bottom of what’s causing the huge volume of supernatural events here.
By the time I’ve rattled off all of the mysterious sightings and experiences, the aliens will have gotten bored, landed in the ranch’s drive next to a beat-up Volvo, and formally introduced themselves to Brandon Fugal.
So, let’s just cut to the craziest activity witnessed here.
First up, Skinwalker Ranch is known for being one of the most investigated locations on the planet. This means that electrical malfunctions are some of the most reported phenomenon. When news reporter Andrew Adams first showed up at the gate to get interviews for a story, problems began.
The camera they were using to record the interviews failed to connect to the smartphones and one of the drones they used to get landscape shots of the ranch claimed it had a fault: “Too strong magnetic interference detected. Ensure there are no magnets or metal objects nearby.”
When this prompt appeared on the screen of the drone controller the radio frequency sensors began to light up. The team then noticed something strange - something strange in the sky. They saw a contrail appear in the sky, and even captured it on one of the cameras the ranch used. They were no aircraft signatures recorded on their technology, and the trajectory was different to that of a bird or a plane. Closer inspection revealed it was a cigar-shaped UFO.
Tumblr media
We also need to discuss what the ranch is best known for: being a ranch. That means they have lots of cattle doing, you know, cattle things. They also have a lot that die, get mutilated, or go missing. On one occasion, the Shermans were riding horses looking for some the cows that just kept going missing.
They found some hoofprints in the snow and began to follow them until they stopped. There was nothing at the end of the footprints. The cow that made the prints just simply vanished. They soon discovered other cows mutilated in a manner similar to other alleged UFO cattle mutilations that take place across the world: there was a deep hole cored out of its rectum in a very precise, surgical way. There was no blood. There was simply a chemical smell, a circle of twigs around the cow, and the tops of the trees also appeared to be severed or razored off.
Fellow ranchers local to the area have seen the same thing on their own land.
We now turn to the skinwalkers - the beasts that have given the ranch its terrifying and also hella gross name. Mysterious and large animals have been reported across the ranch for hundreds of years, but the most famous was witnessed by Terry Sherman himself. He saw a wolf three times its regular size. Sherman shot at it, but to no avail. A year later, after the ranch had changed hands, a biochemist believed he saw a huge humanoid creature staring down at the research team from a tree.
Later inspection of nearby animal prints believed to be from the creature suggested it was a huge bird of prey.
Even those that don’t even set foot on the ranch experience the wrath of the skinwalkers: a classic urban legend claims many have driven through the Navajo Reservation when they see something in a rearview mirror. A humanoid beast runs alongside the car and keeps up the pace before they dart back into the wilderness.
The thing is, this isn’t actually an urban legend. Countless tourists and residents driving through Arizona or near the ranch report such sightings.
Rerouting your 2021 USA roadtrip won’t keep you safe from the skinwalkers. They’ve been seen outside of its barbed-wire fences, too.
Tumblr media
The 5 most terrifying sightings of skinwalkers
#1 - The Navajo Witch Purge
Honey, I deal in ghost stories. But this tale of terror can be traced back to Navajo history.
After a series of wars with the US Army, the Navajo were expelled from their land (Arizona) and travelled to a new some in New Mexico. This is also known as the Long Walk of the Navajo (1864). Failed crops, difficult conditions, illness, and eventually death threatened the people forced from their land. The US government eventuaaallly admitted they made a mistake and allowed them to travel back.
However, in their time of strife, many had turned to becoming Skinwalkers to escape the conditions. They returned to their homeland, but the Skinwalker accusations began soon after. 40 suspected witches were killed to restore harmony to the tribe in 1878.
Someone even discovered witchcraft artefacts concealed in a copy of the Treaty of 1868.
#2 - 1980s roadtrip sighting
As mentioned previously, the urban legend of driving through the reservation has played out in real life on several occasions. Back in the 80s, a family was doing just that when something jumped out from a ditch. It was dark and it was hairy, but it was also wearing a shirt and trousers.
Days after this skinwalker sighting, they began to experience strange things. One night, they woke to the sound of drumming and chanting. They went to the windows to see what in the hell was going on and saw dark figures surround their house. The figures soon left as they were unable to climb the family’s fence.
This experience fits claims of a ‘hitchhiker effect’ - if you visit the ranch, you experience strange things for a while after.
Something stays with you.
Tumblr media
#3 - Sighting by a repairman on a (different) ranch
A man was doing repair jobs on an old ranch home when he heard laughter from a sheep pen. He went to investigate and saw the sheep huddled in one corner. A ram however was separated from the group, was standing upright, and laughing like a human. He then saw the ram had human eyes.
The ram stopped laughing, dropped back to the floor, and walked away on all fours.
#casual
#4 - The murder of Sara Saganitso
Sara was only 40 years old when she was killed. She was a housekeeper at a medical centre and a member of the Navajo tribe. One night in 1987, however, she didn’t return to her family home from work. Her body was discovered badly bruised and mutilated at the medical centre.
There was a stick in her neck, graveyard dirt near her car, and one of her breasts had been bitten off.
George Abney (a former professor at a local college) was later charged with her murder and claimed he was experiencing weird dreams and receiving messages from god. However, his lawyers claimed the graveyard dirt suggest a black magic ritual took place that was similar to the ones carried out by skinwalkers.
One year later, Abney was acquitted and cleared of charges. Even Saganitso’s family believed Abney’s innocence, and the case was reopened a year later. The murder is still unsolved.

In the middle of the road In this picture you can see a humanoid figure. It's brown and bulky with a very thick torso. It looks to be somewhat hunched, as if it's lumbering across the road.
The owner believes it could be evidence of the infamous skinwalker. It is not a scarecrow as this is not an area that needs one as it's just a dusty path.
In native american culture, skinwalkers are believed to be witches or shamans that practice dark magic. It's said that they possess the ability to disguise themselves as animals. These witches are thought to be evil, indulging in sinister ceremonies to control malevolent powers.
While it's known that pop culture has twisted the idea of the skinwalker into an over the top horror cliche, indigenous tribes, specifically the Navajo people, have remained tight lipped about this mysterious entity.
Could this photo hint at the ancient, shape-shifting witches that are said to have been haunting America for centuries?
Experts have analysed the image and found that there was no evidence of photoshop tampering.

Parapsychology titles that’ll give you a true fright
The Unidentified: Mythical Monsters, Alien Encounters, and Our Obsession with the Unexplained by Colin Dickey
In a world where rational, scientific explanations are more available than ever, belief in the unprovable and irrational--in fringe--is on the rise: from Atlantis to aliens, from Flat Earth to the Loch Ness monster, the list goes on. It seems the more our maps of the known world get filled in, the more we crave mysterious locations full of strange creatures. Enter Colin Dickey, Cultural Historian and Tour Guide of the Weird. With the same curiosity and insight that made Ghostland a hit with readers and critics, Colin looks at what all fringe beliefs have in common, explaining that today's Illuminati is yesterday's Flat Earth: the attempt to find meaning in a world stripped of wonder. Dickey visits the wacky sites of America's wildest fringe beliefs--from the famed Mount Shasta where the ancient race (or extra-terrestrials, or possibly both, depending on who you ask) called Lemurians are said to roam, to the museum containing the last remaining "evidence" of the great Kentucky Meat Shower--investigating how these theories come about, why they take hold, and why as Americans we keep inventing and re-inventing them decade after decade. The Unidentified is Colin Dickey at his best: curious, wry, brilliant in his analysis, yet eminently readable.
The Super Natural: A New Vision of the Unexplained by Whitley Strieber, Jeffrey J. Kripal
Two of today's maverick authors on anomalous experience present a perception-altering and intellectually thrilling analysis of why the paranormal is real, but radically different from what is conventionally understood. Whitley Strieber (Communion) and Jeffrey J. Kripal (J. Newton Rayzor professor of religion at Rice University) team up on this unprecedented and intellectually vibrant new framing of inexplicable events and experiences. Rather than merely document the anomalous, these authors--one the man who popularized alien abduction and the other a renowned scholar and "renegade advocate for including the paranormal in religious studies" (The New York Times)--deliver a fast-paced and exhilarating study of why the supernatural is neither fantasy nor fiction but a vital and authentic aspect of life. Their suggestion? That all kinds of "impossible" things, from extra-dimensional beings to bilocation to bumps in the night, are not impossible at all: rather, they are a part of our natural world. But this natural world is immeasurably more weird, more wonderful, and probably more populated than we have so far imagined with our current categories and cultures, which are what really make these things seem "impossible." The Super Natural considers that the natural world is actually a "super natural world"--and all we have to do to see this is to change the lenses through which we are looking at it and the languages through which we are presently limiting it. In short: The extraordinary exists if we know how to look at and think about it.
Unbelievable: Investigations into Ghosts, Poltergeists, Telepathy, and Other Unseen Phenomena from the Duke Parapsychology Laboratory by Stacy Horn

A featured contributor on the popular NPR program “All Things Considered,” Horn has been praised by Mary Roach, bestselling author of Spook, for her “awe-fueled curiosity [and] top-flight reporting skills.” Horn attacks a most controversial subject with Unbelievable—a book that will appeal to armchair scientists as well as fans of TV’s Medium, The Ghost Whisperer, and Crossing Over with John Edward.
When Ghosts Speak: Understanding the World of Earthbound Spirits by Mary Ann Winkowski
Lights flicker on and off for no good reason. You feel drained and inexplicably irritable. Your four-year-old is scared to enter her bedroom. Tell these things to Mary Ann Winkowski, and she'll tell you that you have a ghost. A happily married, devout Catholic, suburban mother and full-time paranormal investigator, Mary Ann Winkowski has been able to see earthbound spirits, spirits that are trapped on earth and haven't "crossed over," since she was a little girl. Mary Ann works with these spirits to help them make peace with what keeps them here - whether it be people they can't let go of or homes they love. In When Ghosts Speak, Mary Ann will tell the amazing story of growing up with this gift, and will share tips on how to recognize when you're not alone, and what to do if you are in the presence of a ghost.
Phenomena: The Secret History of the U.S. Government's Investigations into Extrasensory Perception and Psychokinesis by Annie Jacobsen
The definitive history of the military's decades-long investigation into mental powers and phenomena, from the author of Pulitzer Prize finalist The Pentagon's Brain and international bestseller Area 51 This is a book about a team of scientists and psychics with top secret clearances. For more than forty years, the U.S. government has researched extrasensory perception, using it in attempts to locate hostages, fugitives, secret bases, and downed fighter jets, to divine other nations' secrets, and even to predict future threats to national security. The intelligence agencies and military services involved include CIA, DIA, NSA, DEA, the Navy, Air Force, and Army-and even the Joint Chiefs of Staff. Now, for the first time, New York Times bestselling author Annie Jacobsen tells the story of these radical, controversial programs, using never before seen declassified documents as well as exclusive interviews with, and unprecedented access to, more than fifty of the individuals involved. Speaking on the record, many for the first time, are former CIA and Defense Department scientists, analysts, and program managers, as well as the government psychics themselves. Who did the U.S. government hire for these top secret programs, and how do they explain their military and intelligence work? How do scientists approach such enigmatic subject matter? What interested the government in these supposed powers and does the research continue? Phenomena is a riveting investigation into how far governments will go in the name of national security.
Monster Hunters: On the Trail with Ghost Hunters, Bigfooters, Ufologists, and Other Paranormal Investigators by Tea Krulos
Do ghosts exist? What about Bigfoot or Skinwalkers? And how will we ever know? Journalist Tea Krulos spent more than a year traveling nationwide to meet individuals who have made it their life’s passion to hunt down evidence of entities that they believe exist but that others might shrug off as nothing more than myths, fairy tales, or the products of overactive imaginations. Without taking sides in the debate, Krulos joins these believers in the field, exploring haunted houses, trekking through creepy forests, and scanning skies and lakes as they collect data on the unknown poltergeists, chupacabras, Skunk Apes (Bigfoot’s stinky cousins), and West Virginia’s Mothman. Along the way, he meets a diverse cast of characters—true believers, skeptics, and hoaxers—from the credible to the quirky, and has a couple of hair-raising encounters that make him second-guess his own beliefs.

Rebel Z (Chapter 4)
Invader Zim fanfic
While analyzing Zim’s PAK for weaknesses, Tak discovers strange coding that sends her on a search for answers. The clues lead her to uncover a conspiracy that governs all of Irken society. When the truth sends her on the run, she has no choice but to return to the one place the Tallest would never willingly go: Urth.
Meanwhile, Dib has noticed odd changes in Zim’s behavior. Has the invader simply grown bored of his mission over the last few years, or is there something more interesting going on?

[-]
Dib felt the familiar burning sensation in his eyes as he stared at his monitors. Zim had been relatively quiet for quite some time now, three years to be exact. He didn’t disappear completely, like he had right before the Florpus Hole incident. Dib still caught him moving about his house, talking to strange aliens on his tele-communication device, and building dangerous-looking machinery. Despite Zim’s clear activity, outright plans to take over the Earth seemed to cease. Or at least Zim stopped gloating about them. Dib noticed these changes and decided they were concerning enough to require constant surveillance, but stable enough that he could step away from his screens every now and then.
As his eyes drifted across the screens, they landed on a haphazard stack of college brochures resting on his desk. Top universities from all over the world have been sending him these since preschool. He suspected college recruiters everywhere put his name on their lists the second they heard the world-renowned Professor Membrane had an offspring. They badgered him and Gaz for as long back as he could remember. They typically threw at least one ivy-league brochure in the trash every week. Although now, he had to start keeping them. Those recruiters must have started salivating as soon as his SAT scores were in. Every school wanted to be able to say they educated the children of Professor Membrane.
At least he didn’t have to deal with all the college recruitment events he knew were going on over at the High Skool. He and Gaz left mainstream education behind years ago after convincing their dad to let them homeschool. It wasn’t that hard. All they had to do was sit their dad down and show him their curriculums. His only condition was that they keep their grades up and take the most advanced programs available. It turned out to be a mutually beneficial arrangement. Dib & Gaz were learning the advanced science their father wanted them to, and they never had to set foot in the Skool again. This arrangement ended early for Dib, as he completed his senior year before his former classmates reached midterms. Of course, this only made the college recruiters even more ravenous.
Well, they were going to have to wait. High school may be over for him, but now he was taking a gap year. He told his father he wanted the time to figure out which branch of science he wanted to study. This was only half-true. Really, he just needed to figure out what to do with his life, period.
His child-hood dream of being a paranormal investigator grew less and less appealing as he saw what the field had become. The Swollen Eyeball network had gone down hill since Agent Darkbootie went off the grid to live amongst the sasquatch. Standards dropped to the Marianas Trench. Now, they let in riff-raff like flat-earthers and hollow-mooners. Uncovering the truth didn’t seem important to them anymore. It was all about who could come up with the most convoluted conspiracy, regardless of evidence or even common sense. Dib wanted to uncover the mysteries of the universe, to expand the knowledge of the human race. Knowledge didn’t seem to factor in at all anymore, not so long as the theory was sexy.
As for Dib’s work on Zim, he had to admit, it’d become mundane sometimes. He could only watch Zim binge-watch tv so many times before accepting there was nothing more to it. Hell, sometimes Dib would find himself watching whatever was on the tv more than he watched Zim. He’d sometimes go days without any notable movement. A few weeks ago, however, remarkable activity breathed new life into Dib’s efforts.
Currently, Zim’s ship sat haphazardly parked, or rather crashed, on the front lawn. Dib stared at it, waiting for Zim to notice the state of his space craft.
“Still monitoring Zim?” He heard Gaz say from the door.
“Always,” Dib replied, eyes still glued to the screen.
Gaz rolled her eyes and walked into his room. “You sure you need to? He’s been pretty quiet lately.”
“He knows I’m watching.”
“Okay, TJ Eckleburg,” Gaz said, leaning on his desk and popping open a soda.
“huh?”
“Read a book.”
“Whatever,” he groaned, his eyes flickering from one monitor to another. “The point is, quietness means nothing. Remember the time he disappeared but it turned out he was just hiding in the toilet?”
“You mean the time you let him hijack Membrane Labs, kidnap dad, and almost send the planet through a florpus hole?” She took a long sip of her soda. “Yeah, I remember.”
“And what about the time he left for weeks, then just showed up one day and broke my camera?”
“Oh yeah, that. I wouldn’t call breaking your camera ultimate evil, though, especially if you were shoving it in his face. You never did find out where he went, did you?”
“No, but there’s definitely something going on now,” Dib said as he opened his laptop. “I was going over the surveillance footage from last night and look.”
He brought up a clip he saved from the footage. It showed Tak parking a boxy, gray ship in Zim’s back yard and sneaking into his base. After a few minutes, the rooftop hanger opened. She flew Zim’s ship out, dumped it on the front lawn, and parked her own ship back in the hanger.
“Is that Tak?” Gaz asked, watching the clip.
“Yeah, I saw her on the cameras a few weeks ago. She broke into Zim’s base and left after about an hour, but this time she hasn’t come out.”
“So why aren’t you going over to investigate?” Gaz asked, returning to her casual lean.
“I can’t just rush in without a plan on something this huge!” he retorted. “I have to figure out what they’re doing first.”
Gaz shrugged. “Maybe she killed him and took over his base.”
“It’s not that easy,” Dib explained. “Zim’s computers are programed to only respond to him.”
“I used it once. The Tak hotdog thing, remember?”
“That was different. Zim let us in semi-willingly. Unless Tak found a way to override the security features…”
“Maybe she’s using Zim’s corpse as a meat-puppet to control the computer.”
Dib cringed. “Uh, gross.” Even he wasn’t sure he could stomach that idea. He returned to his monitors and saw a shadow move in Zim’s living room. “Wait! I just saw something!”
They both leaned into the screen as Dib zoomed in the camera on the window. Through it, they could see Zim’s robot servant sitting on the couch, eating snacks.
“That’s just Zim’s dumb robot watching tv,” Gaz said.
Dib threw his hands up. “Oh come on!” The robot again?! He’d watched this thing gobble down nachos on this couch a million times. Why did everything look so normal over there? “There has to be something going on. Is Tak hiding? Did Zim capture her? Are they planning something together? I have to know!”
“My best guess?”
“You’ve got a theory?” Dib asked, eagerly swiveling his chair around to face her. “Let’s hear it!”
“Tak’s playing the trombone and Zim’s slamming the oven door.” Gaz smirked, looking annoyingly proud of herself.
Dib’s face fell into a scowl. “Thanks Gaz, very insightful.” He sharply turned his chair back toward the monitors.
“You’re going to be up here obsessing all day, aren’t you?” she asked.
“Probably.”
“Fine.” Gaz downed the rest of her drink, tossed the can in the trash, and started toward the door. “I was thinking about watching that new Skinwalker Ranch documentary tonight, but I guess you’ll be busy.”
She walked out, leaving Dib alone with his screens. He scanned the feed in front of him, all inactive save for Zim’s snacking robot. He had been wanting to check out that documentary, but keeping an eye on Zim was more important, especially after this recent development. His eyes landed on the robot again, who was now sloppily sucking down a giant slushee. Dib sighed and checked the rest of his cameras.
Still nothing.
[-]
Zim emerged from his labs after another night of testing and research. His latest project was going well so far, despite the recent interference. No doubt, his leaders would be pleased. He went to the kitchen for a well-deserved soda and, whistling, headed to the living room to check on Gir.
As he sipped, he noticed something large and purple out the window. When he went to look, he nearly spit out his drink. His voot sat crashed in the front yard for all the Urth to see.
“Gir!” he shouted, jumping around to face his robot. “What is my ship doing out there?!”
“I dunno,” Gir said, munching away on his snacks.
“Well, if you didn’t do it, who did?”
“Uh, Zim,” the computer interrupted. “It was probably the intruder.”
“What intruder?!” Zim demanded, stomping into the middle of the room. “Why didn’t you alert me?”
“Uh, I did.”
The show Gir was watching snapped off the tv and the screen now showed security footage from the previous evening. Zim and Gir sat on the couch with a bowl of snacks.
“Sir, I have detected a-”
“Not now, computer,” TV Zim said, “Jessica is about to reveal the murderer.”
But this really is urgent.”
“Of course!” TV Zim shouted, leaning off the couch. “It was the bus driver, seeking revenge for his fallen offspring!”
“Zim, there is an intruder in the-”
TV Zim jumped to his feet. “What? No!”
“Exactly!”
“It’s not the bus driver after all!” TV Zim declared. “I knew it!”
“No you didn’t,” TV Gir chimed in.
“There’s too much time left in the episode. Jessica still has 15 minutes to find the killer. Now, which of these smelly bus-humans is the real culprit?”
“Ugh, fine, whatever.”
The security feed cut out and Gir’s show came back on the tv. Zim growled and pressed his palms into his forehead. Curse that Jessica Fletcher and her engaging small-town mysteries! If that show hadn’t been canceled Urth decades ago, he would have ensured that was the last murder she ever wrote.
“Computer! Is the intruder still in the base?”
“Yes.”
“Locate them.”
After a few seconds of processing sounds, Computer answered. “Irken biosignature located in the storage room.”
Irken, he was pretty sure he knew what that meant. Zim stormed over to the trashcan/elevator. “Computer, take me to the storage room. I’ll show Tak how to sneak into my base.”
“You’re going to show her how to sneak into your base?”
“Or how not to sneak… Or what happens when you sneak… or… Ugh you know what I meant!” Zim jumped into the elevator. “Just take me there!”
[-]
Finding Tak wasn’t as hard as he expected. As soon as he made it down to the storage room, Zim was greeted by the sound of something metal clanging to the floor. From there, all he had to do was follow the trail of crushed cans. At the end, he found Tak sitting on the floor, surrounded by discarded cans and bottles. She barely took notice of him as she downed another drink.
“You!” He shouted, pointing an accusing finger at her. “You have some nerve coming back here after… whatever it is you did! I spent days running diagnostics, trying to figure out what it is you tampered with.”
“Eh, who cares what I did?” Tak slurred, tearing her mouth away from the bottle. “I’m back on Urth. Life is empty and destiny is a cruel joke.”
“What are you going on about? And what is all this?” he said, trudging through her mess. His foot kicked a glass bottle which was larger than the rest. Picking it up, he recognized the fancy Irken label. “This is my gingzor!” he gasped. “I’ve been saving this!”
“You can get more,” Tak said with a burp. “Did you know you can get this stuff on Urth without showing identification? Idiots.”
“Have you been in my storage room, drowning yourself in gingzor all night?”
“Yup, why not? As good a way to waste my meaningless life as any.” She looked down the neck of the bottle in her hand. Empty, sad,” she pouted as she tossed it over her shoulder.
“What are you talking about?”
“Just my recent discovery that my entire life is a lie,” she sighed. “Hey, wanna watch me laser-shot this whole six pack?”
Tak held up a pack of green cans by their plastic connector. She shot a hole in the bottom of one with a laser pistol, then started chugging the drink out from the bottom.
Zim curled a finger around his chin as he pondered the sight before him. This was very unlike Tak. He’d had enough encounters with her to know what to expect. Proud declarations of her superiority, vows for bloody vengeance, maybe a bit of maniacal cackling… that was Tak. She even had all night to attempt to kill him and, instead, spent it swimming in a pool of gingzor and self-pity. This…this was not Tak. He wondered what could possibly bring her to such a lowly state. Then it hit him.
“Ah, I see what’s happened,” he declared. “You finally realized you were never meant to be an invader and that knowledge has sent you down a spiraling pit of despair. Go on, let it out. Zim can offer his pity.”
Tak’s eyes narrowed. She plucked a can off of the pack, shook it up, and sprayed it in Zim’s face. Zim let out a yelp as he was doused in the drink.
“You know, Zim, I didn’t know you were so sentimental.”
“Sentimental?” he grumbled, rubbing the gingzor out of his eyes
“I found your secret stash.” Tak smirked as she pulled out a box labeled ZIM’S PRIVATE STUFF (GIR DON’T TOUCH).  She reached into the box and took out a CD case titled Best of Queen. “Looks like someone’s a fan of Urth royalty,” she said as she tossed it in the air.
Zim scrambled to catch it before it smashed on the ground. “That is a music group, not royalty and-”
“Oh what’s this?” she asked, pulling out his sleeved blanket. “Some sort of backward robe?” She threw that on Zim’s head, then held up his fuzzy boots. “And what are these?”
Zim snatched the blanket off and dropped it on the ground. “It gets very cold on Urth and-”
“Guess I can expect softness from someone who kept their cadet badge.” Tak held up the pink, metal circle with the Irken insignia emblazed on it. His heart beat just a second faster.
“Enough!” he shouted, swiping the badge out of her hands. “You have no business going through my stuff!”
Tak made a dismissive sound and waved her arm. “Pfft, I’ve already seen the inside of your brain. What’s the harm in looking through a few boxes?”
“Eh? My brain? Wha?” His hands flew to his back as he realized what she just admitted. “My PAK! You tampered with my PAK!”
“For the last time, I didn’t tamper, I ANALYZED!” she screamed in his face.
“Uh… this was the first time I mentioned it… Wait! It doesn’t matter! You committed a capital offence!”
“No, tampering is a capitol offence. Analyzing isn’t technically against the law.” She let out a bitter chuckle. “Although, it probably should be if they didn’t want me to see what I saw.”
“Eh? What?”
“I know something you don’t know…” she sing-songed.
“What? What is it?” He demanded, grabbing her by the shirt. “Tell me!”
“Guess who’s defective…” she sing-songed again in that annoying, giddy tone. “You! And me! And Skoodge! And a whole bunch of other people probably! And it doesn't matter at all!” She laughed. “Nothing matters! Nothing is real!” She laughed harder and threw her arm around Zim’s shoulders. “I don't even want to kill you anymore because it be so pointless. Why put in the effort? We're just walking talking food for a giant, horrible, tentacle-y, blob-monster-god-thing”
“What blob-monster-god-thing?” He inquired, pealing Tak’s arm off of himself with a sneer.
“You know it as the control brains.” She smirked. There was something bitter and smug in it.
“Control brains?” He gasped. “You're speaking treason.”
“Eah-yup!” she declared, popping open another drink.
He desperately rubbed his temples as this new information buzzed around in his brain. She couldn’t be serious. She couldn’t be. “This is a trick,” he accused, eyes darting around, looking for hidden cameras. “You're trying to get me to say something treasonous so you can record it and show it to the Tallest.”
“Nope, no trick,” she said. Her voice was unsettlingly casual. “I went all the way to Refierencee to find out Irk is nothing but the plaything of a life sucking horror blob. Don't believe me? Here.” She tapped a spot on her PAK and a cable flew into her hands. “Plug me in and check my memory drive. See if I'm lying.”
She waggled the cable at him, daring him to take it. There had to be a reason she was doing all this. She must have some sort of ulterior motive. Why else would she make up such an outlandish lie? Unless, it wasn’t a lie...
“Fine,” he said, snatching the cable, “but I warn you, I've upgraded my computer security. So if you try to infect my base with a virus, it won't work.”
Tak shrugged and went back to her drink.
Something was wrong here, very wrong. Whether it was the truth or just a nefarious plot, there was only one way to get to the bottom of it.
[-]
Tak sat on a box, her PAK plugged into the computer while Zim reviewed her memory drive on his computer screen. He played the Refirencee memories again. Was this the 3rd or 4th time? He couldn't remember. He scanned each frame with a sharp eye. There had to be something else here, some sort of tell that this was a trick, just another one of Tak’s schemes. There was no way this could be true.
“Watch as many times as you want,” Tak said, opening yet another can. “It's not gonna change.”
“You tampered with your memory drive,” Zim said matter-of-fact. Even if he hadn’t found an inconsistency yet, that had to be the case. It was the only explanation. Well, not the only one…
“Nope,” she answered. The assurance in her voice was grating. “Have your computer check. I dare you.”
Zim glanced up. “Computer…”
“No signs of tampering detected.”
“You see…” She was so smug. He hated it.
“Then this Krislotch person is a liar.”
“And has an amazing amount of free time on his hands,” Tak retorted.
“There must be something else!” Zim slammed his hands on the control panel. “Some other explanation! If it is true that means-”
“That our people are slaves and our entire society is a lie? Why do you think I keep drinking?” She asked, knocking her drink back.
“Enough sass, you talking bottle of gingzor!” He shouted, whirling his chair around to face her. He jumped to his feet and put an accusing finger in her face. “You expect me to believe this? That the Control Brains are actually-”
“A giant parasite feeding off the life force of our entire race? Yes! Exactly! What aren't you getting?” She jumped to her feet as well and advanced toward him, crushing a can in her hands. “It's got its tentacles in everything. It controls every aspect of our lives and it'll continue to grow bigger and bigger until that's all there is. Irk doesn't exist, Zim!” She grabbed the front of his shirt and pulled him in. “In our lifetime it never has! There is only it and everyone: the invaders, the foot soldiers, the janitors, the food service drones, even the tallest! We're all just slaves to the glory of the parasite.”
Tak broke out in a wild cackle as tears began leaking from her eyes. Her fingers slipped from Zim’s clothes and she doubled over, hysterical laughter echoing around the room. Zim could only watch and puzzle over her conduct. This behavior was unbecoming of a proper Irken, especially not an elite as Tak fancied herself. Maniacal laughter was fine, sure, but this? Would she degrade herself so much for an act? He thought not.
“What now?”
“It's just so funny,” she said, wiping a tear from her eye. “I mean, we work all our lives to serve the empire. You and I even remained loyal in exile. And when I learned about this thing, how our people were in danger, my first thought was ‘I have to stop this thing.’ And now,” she let out a burst of cackling, “I'm an enemy of the state! And I have to hide in your base of all places and the first person I can tell about any of this is you.” Her laughter began again in full and it sent her to the floor. “You see how that's funny?”
“Uh, no.”
“Oh.” She calmed down enough to take a few deep breaths. “Am I laughing or crying?”
“Uh, laughing I think?”
“Good, good, 'cause this really is funny,” she said, reaching over and grabbing another can. “Like a great, big joke. My life, my existence… it's all a big, cosmic… what's that human phrase? Fuck you!” Her arms opened to the ceiling. “It's a big, cosmic fuck you!”
Zim watched her, laying on the floor, her pained laughter filling the room. The site was beyond pathetic, but he could feel no victory in it. He couldn't feel anything at all. If this was true, Tak was right… about everything. And in the face of this revelation, he did the only thing he could do. He sat down on the floor, grabbed a can of gingzor from the pack, and poured the contents into his mouth.

The Legion of the Damned Comes to Iceland
Tumblr media
If the deathbed requests of the dearly departed are ignored then it stands to reason in a folklore-based world that their disgruntled spirit might return to pester the living. However, for one woman who died 'far back in the history of time' in Iceland, the posthumous disrespect she received would not only bring about the manifestation of her wrathful ghost, but would also rain all sorts of supernatural hell down upon those living in the house in which her body had been temporarily stored before she could be buried. You may have heard of paranormal hotspots such as Skinwalker Ranch in Utah or Hoia Baciu in Transylvania, but I for one had never heard of a human cadaver becoming a hotspot for such a wide-reaching variety of paranormal phenomena. I'm talking hordes of apparitions, poltergeists, lethal sleep paralysis, UFOs and even bizarre subterranean pinniped cryptids. Are you sitting comfortably?
After she died, the unnamed Icelandic lady's body was to be interred in a far-off sepulchre (perhaps out of fear of her wrath) but unfortunately this could not take place for the first day after her funeral for unspecified reasons. The bearers stopped in a nearby house overnight, depositing her body in the house as well. Predictably, her ghost made itself known at midnight, gliding around the kitchen. It seems as if her body was then interred the next morning, and the funeral participants returned home. However, they had evidently unleashed something they couldn't easily lock back up. The house had become undeniably damned. On the night that the bearers returned home, a bizarre object appeared in the sky above the house in which the body had been stored. It was described as a glowing 'spectral form' resembling a half-moon, and it moved about in an arc shape through the night sky, revolving in the opposite direction to the manner in which the sun would normally proceed across the heavens. It continued to repeat this action endlessly until the occupants of the house went to sleep. It did this without fail every evening for a week - and 'certain wise sages' declared it to be a portent of pestilence and death. One of these unfortunately-correct prophets would later meet his demise as well at supernatural hands.
The first death to be caused by this phenomenon was that of an unnamed herdsman. Shortly after the death of the lady who had started the whole unholy thing, he found himself apparently persecuted by demonic entities. One morning, his lifeless body was found in his bed. The phenomenon which had now evidently taken complete possession of the house seemed to not want to let the hapless herdsman's soul move on, however, and his ghost appeared to one of the men who had prophesied the coming of death and destruction to the house. This man's name was Thorer, and one night the shepherd's ghost set upon him with such ferocity that he was effectively beaten to death by incorporeal hands. Thorer joined the growing horde of wrathful spirits shortly thereafter, seemingly aligning himself with his killer to further persecute the occupants of the house. Several more individuals would be assaulted by these murderous spirits.
Poltergeist activity commenced within the house soon afterwards, with tables and chairs being upturned by invisible hands and kitchen utensils being hurled about in wild and unpredictable directions. Next, something which takes the cake for weirdness happened - a 'demon in the shape of a seal' emerged from the ground. This creature apparently rose from the earth on several occasions, causing the occupants of the house great distress. The next notable figure to die was Thorodd, the master of the house. He was crossing a river in a boat along with two of his servants when the boat suddenly faltered in an unspecified manner, causing all three men to drown - and their spirits to walk the halls of the accursed house soon after.
However, the occupants of the house were now devout Christians. The source for this story is an 1880 book of folklore which seems to be highly biased against those that it refers to as 'heathens' - and so of course the Christians are described as being completely unbothered by the murderous ghosts which are now described as demons. The Christians are said to have simply accepted that those who were favourably received by a goddess named Rana (presumably Rana Niejta of the Sámi Shamans) were bound to show themselves after death. Despite this weird little aside in the narrative as told by the book, it is evident that the ghostly onslaught was not quite done yet. In fact, the next few sentences of the story in the book heavily imply that it didn't even slow down. There were now thirty ghosts haunting the house, and this was apparently the exact number of people who had somehow been in contact with demons (if my understanding of the passage is correct). The nocturnal storage of the woman's body had evidently started something which had now completely outgrown her initial wrath. People in the surrounding village started to flee their homes out of fear that they would soon be killed by the entities and that their spirits would join the demonic hordes.
Their fears might indeed have been realised were it not for the timely intervention of a pious priest. He came to the house and plentifully applied holy water to the site, exorcising the foul spirits through means of holding a solemn mass. Hereafter, the entities all disappeared and were never heard from again - and so ended the parade of the damned which had briefly taken over a small Icelandic village...

Story Weaver
“Statement of Justine Maloney, regarding her books. Recording by [REDACTED], assistant archivist at the Magnus Institute. Original statement made… July first, twenty nineteen. Statement Begins:”
“Should I- Introduce myself anymore? I suppose I should, for context. Well, I’m a writer. Or, well… I was a writer, I’m not sure what I should call myself now. I don’t think I’ve really been able to call myself a writer for a while now. I haven’t actually written for a couple of months, at this point. I’m… Too afraid to try. I saw something once, a long time ago… When I was a little girl. I don’t remember what it was in, but... It was a story my mother used to read me at bed time… Instead of writer, the character was called the “Story weaver”. I suppose that would be a better description for me. He would be paid, by the townsfolk, to craft a tale about them, and then as if by magic, those tales would come true. Of course, the townsfolk would only ever ask for good fortune, money, marriage, happiness, things like that. My tales have a much more gruesome edge.
I used to write horror, short stories about the paranormal, mainly. I put out a few full length novels but I’ve always preferred writing short stories. They’re more concise, quick to get to the point. I’ve never been one for beating around the bush like novels so often do.
I suppose then, I’ll be direct with you too. The things I have written, are coming to life. And before you dismiss this as some superstitious bullshit or a series of strange coincidences - I was a writer, I created these things, I know them very intimately. Though… Now, I feel as though I didn’t know them at all before. Now I feel as though I have a much deeper understanding of my own creations.
I wrote one story, a few years ago, that involved a rather grisly possession, ending in the death of the subject, suicide as it were. The character, Caleb Thomas, pulled his heart out of his chest and ripped his eyes from his skull. And then it happened, ten months ago. There was a report - I’m sure you’ve a statement from the poor man, too, somewhere in your archive… He was possessed, possessed by a demon. He dug his own eyes out of his head, then he clawed his own heart out of his chest. I wrote that, it’s titled “Corruption”. It was… The first, of my writings to come true, and easily my most popular story. It’s rather disturbing, even I think so. Although, that’s the point of horror isn’t it? To disturb, to terrify, to unsettle… That’s the whole appeal. People read horror to be… Horrified. They read it to be scared, to be distressed. People are so odd, like that. I mean, who wants to be scared? It’s not a pleasant sensation, and yet… My most disturbing and unsettling works are my most popular. Funny how that works, isn’t it.
This was something else, though… Having it really happen. At first I just assumed it was some crazed fan of mine that went off the rails, but… I have since reconsidered. I was never at the crime scene, I only saw a couple of pictures from it… But… The crime felt so… So familiar, so intimate. I didn’t have to be there to know, I could practically feel it. I had done this, this was because of me. Not some madman who’d happened upon my story, this was because of me.
That was almost enough by itself, to scare me away from writing. But I suppose I was just too stubborn to quit that easily. I should have… God… I wish I had. Everything would be okay if I had just stopped then. Well… Several people would still be alive, at least.
The next one that came true was “The Dawn”. The one about the hikers, targeted by a Skinwalker, and they have to survive until the sun rises. A little cliche, I know, but I enjoyed writing it, and I’ve always found Skinwalkers to be utterly fascinating.
A couple of weeks after the… First incident, a hiker was found on the side of the road in Northern New Mexico, covered in blood, babbling nonsense about - Well, you know. The body of his companion was never found… But bits of skin and bone have turned up throughout the woods. One poor soul reported seeing the man, except… He was wrong somehow. Taller than he should be - his legs just a little too long… His arms lopsided, stopped over, almost walking on all fours. His skin stretched and torn, dried blood matting his unnaturally thin hair… It was exactly as I had written it. It was too perfect, I knew it too well.
I suppose the method I found to take my mind off of it was… Less than optimal, for the situation. I decided to try to take my mind off these ghastly deaths with… You guessed it, writing about more ghastly deaths. Grim, I know, but it was the best escape I could think of.
I wrote “New Beginnings”, the one about the- the criminal, who ran off, and was hunted by the ghosts of his victims. Well, I’m sure we all heard about the case of Jeffery Heather. The serial killer who was so mysteriously torn limb from limb in his new home, after escaping the authorities and jumping to a new state. Of course, that one made national news. Such a strange occurrence, and yet… Nobody else put it all together. They couldn’t have, I hadn’t even published “New Beginnings”. I still haven’t. I don’t know how this started - I don’t know why this is happening, but I have not written anything new since then. As much as I want to, I just… Can’t bring myself to risk it again. I’ve promised myself that I won’t write anymore, I won’t let myself be responsible for any more deaths. Just… Please, this has happened twelve times, and I have already published over forty things. Please figure out what’s causing this and make it stop. I don’t want to kill anybody else.”
“Statement ends. This one, thus far, has been quite easy to investigate. I looked into police reports and the history of these supposed deaths, and Ms. Maloney’s accounts of each have been correct. I suppose it would be strange for her recollections to be off… She did write the stories afterall - Oh, I looked into those as well, and true enough, she wrote them and she was not lying about their contents. Ms. Maloney is… A very graphic author. Despite the evidence that would prove her statement - we have not been able to find anything that would have triggered these events. I intend to keep looking.
Since her statement, two more murders that connect to her tales have occurred - Specifically, the Henderson deaths, based on her novel “Below the Sky”, in which the entire Henderson family; consisting of two daughters, a son, a dog, and two parents, were found floating, twenty feet off the ground, with all their blood on the ground beneath them. And the second, the Jennifer Mariner case… A rather… Gruesome one. Straight from The God’s Nectar. I won’t go into great detail, but… Blood turned to wine, boiled inside her as punishment for previous sins, etcetera, etcetera, it was very unpleasant business.
When we tried to contact her for a follow up, we were unable to locate Ms. Maloney. She appears to have vanished. I can only hope that her stories have not caught up with her as they have so many others.
Statement ends.”

Hunt For The Skinwalker
Based on the best-selling book by George Knapp & Dr. Colm Kelleher, Hunt for The Skinwalker investigates the confidential, most extensive scientific study of a paranormal hotspot in human history. Skinwalker Ranch in Utah is famous throughout the world because of the myriad of frightening, seemingly supernatural events that have been reported in the scenic basin surrounding the property for hundreds of years. Sightings include orbs, UFOs, animal mutilations, unknown creatures, poltergeist-type activity, and many other inexplicable incidents. An exhaustive, multidisciplinary scientific study began in 1996, spearheaded by an enigmatic Las Vegas billionaire named Robert Bigelow. A team of PhD-level investigators was deployed to collect evidence and spent more than a decade on the ground, interviewing witnesses, searching for explanations, and directly confronting an unknown intelligence. Recent headlines have revealed that a second, government-funded but confidential study was initiated by the Defense Intelligence Agency (DIA). This second investigation was designed to determine if the phenomena at the ranch might have national security implications or could point to technological breakthroughs.
The shroud of mystery hanging above Skinwalker Ranch and the Uintah Basin has fascinated director Jeremy Corbell for years. He finally journeyed to the property to interview eyewitnesses – including the new owner of the ranch – and uncover rare, previously unreleased recordings.
Cast: George Knapp, Dr. Colm Kelleher, Robert Bigelow, Robbie Williams, Dr. John B. Alexander, Mark Allin, Dr. Eric Davis, Jeremy Corbell
