Hello, I need to hear about 00s Richie dragging Eddie into a hot topic for the first time 🥰

so the very first time they go, richie is kinda sneaky about it, because he’s already tried to get eddie to come in there with him so many times, but eddie always refuses. i’m thinking this would either be before they’re dating or maybe like right when they start

so they go to the mall and they get soft pretzels and they’re kinda just wandering around looking at random things

but then they pass by american eagle and richie’s like “eds! you wanna go in?”

and eddie’s immediate reaction is just “!!!!!!!” because yeah, of course he does. but then he quickly realizes that this is richie offering, and he pauses in his chewing to glance up at richie

“wait. did you seriously just offer to come in here with me or am i dreaming?”

richie grins around his last mouthful of pretzel and nods excitedly, “i’m serious! let’s go, i know you love this place.”

and eddie is skeptical, but he’s also too excited to really care so they go inside and eddie tries on some things and richie helps him decide what to get. they’re in there for probably an hour and richie doesn’t complain once. which should really be setting alarms off in eddie’s head, but he’s having too much fun

they go to a couple of eddie’s other favorite stores as well, and richie is smiling the whole time

“is there anywhere you wanna go, rich?” eddie asks, because this entire day has been about him. he doesn’t really think about the question as he looks through the few bags he has, and it’s only when richie’s arm drops around his shoulders that he realizes what’s going on

“just one place, eds. you comin’ in with me this time?”

eddie looks up at him, only to find an obnoxious grin on his face and a playful twinkle in his eyes, and if you asked him; he’d say the blush on his cheeks is from anger and not from how pretty richie looks

and he knows if he said no, it’d be fine. richie would just run in and eddie would wait for him, just like they always do

but when he thinks about it, even though he can gather that richie went to all those stores with him to try to convince eddie to come to hot topic with him, he realizes that richie has gone into his stores with him several times. sometimes complaining, sometimes scoffing - but he still did. and eddie never goes into hot topic with richie

so he sighs and blinks slowly up at richie before nodding once. “okay, let’s go.”

richie almost falls over from shock, but instead he drags eddie inside, practically laughing hysterically because he’s so excited

eddie wonders if this is how richie feels going shopping with him. eddie is literally like a walking pastel sign that says “hi i don’t belong here.” but he can’t help looking around with interest. and the employees are all super friendly and helpful. and okay maybe this place has some cool stuff. and richie is so happy that it honestly negates anything else. eddie just smiles at him as they flit around the store, and richie ends up getting a bunch of new band tees and some pins and a new bottle of black nail polish. 

eddie is looking through the keychains while richie is checking out, until richie calls him over

when eddie goes, richie is holding up a little pin that has a pretzel on it and it says “i wanna dip a pretzel in your awesome sauce�� and eddie tries and fails to stifle his giggles

the pin is on eddie’s backpack the next day, and after that, eddie is slightly more willing to go to hot topic with richie :) <3

Ok so ... I wanted to do a straight up and down SMAU so bad. Like none of that text interruption shit. But I went to do it and .... It's so hard. Like so hard. ESPECIALLY when the concept is "This exists on the old web" Like you can find something on google to create fake twitter and facebook posts. Myspace and AOL chat rooms are harder to come by.

Okay bc of this post and @rchtzr’s tags on said post, I simply cannot stop thinking about how Eddie would just get like super into skating and they go to the skate shop together and pick out boards and buy a shitload of stickers to put on the underside and how Richie gets hurt really bad one time when he falls but ofc he still wants to skate with Eddie and Eddie’s like absolutely not so (after pouting about it) Richie ends up just taking pics and videos of Eddie on his new board (and tbh ends up having the best time doing so) with the R+E stickers on the bottom (bc obviously they would do that) doing all kinds of tricks while he sits on the sideline with his scraped-to-all-shit knee that has been bandaged up courtesy of Eddie. And then later they go through all of it and decide what to post on MySpace

Really though, doing these reference sketches has helped me get back into the groove a bit. Brendon is basically the same as he has been, but I’ve really worked to find a balance for Ben. He was beginning to look too soft and undefined, not iconic enough. It was like I was searching for him every time I drew him, haha. Now I think he has the right energy to him, with lots of angular shapes and the return of his flippy hair.

Now that we have a picture of Anne Bonny and a casting for Mary Read I need to rework Myspace AU because I was very comfortable with the idea of those two being OFMD characters who didn't actually exist and therefore I could do whatever I wanted with them so long as they were dating and so I made them emo groupies with myspace who are in their early 20s and routinely post pictures of Jack in compromising positions with coke on his nose to Myspace with about a 5% chance of a tabloid picking it up. (this is important because of spoilers)
