I love ii but it WILL be the death of me. I keep thinking about how Baseball's storyline is just so damn tragic, and nobody notices. "Always strikes out", And he 𝘩𝘢𝘴 his whole life (his whole time on the show).
Not rejoining, even when he earned it (Paper most likely had the sympathy of fans due to Paper having been there the longest, but Baseball had also been there almost just as long, and- 𝘨𝘦𝘵 𝘵𝘩𝘪𝘴. He 𝗱𝗶𝗱𝗻'𝘁 threaten to kill anyone upon his release! /sarc)
having a constant stream of ridicule from the other contestants regarding his weight lasting S1 AND the start of S2. Why do they even CARE about his weight brah. Ohhh, that's right! Meshart4 fated him to never get what he wants, like people 𝘯𝘰𝘵 seeing him for only his weight. Womp womp, I guess. Wow Mephone, projecting, much? (Also [in my opinion] weight seems VERY irrelevant for objects to care about, due to how most things that could change the appearance of a human [such as; diet, physical strength, hygiene.] Don't really change an object's appearance.) ((Also also being criticized for his armless-.. ness(?) Ouch.))
As much as being a team leader seems like it would be a 𝘨𝘰𝘰𝘥 thing, with the team he had, it was like being a single mom of 10. Having to mediate all of the drama in his team whilst leading it in the first place put so much pressure on him, not to mention having the weight of his friend's problems weighing on him making things harder to deal with. The reason he and Nickel had that lil tussle back in s2e10, was BECAUSE Baseball had so many bad things happening to him. He just wanted that little reassurance that even with all the crap happening, he was an at least half-decent leader, and all he got was his best friend making a joke about it, and downplaying Baseball's very real feelings. He tried to save it, but just that first comment I feel definitely affected Baseball in a negative way.
//(Lil detour time, I wanna talk about how Nickel affected Baseball in GENERAL [for the better AND the worse.], Baseball clearly views Nickel as his best friend, even after everything they've gone through in season 2, but I don't think that's necessarily a good thing. I think it shows that Baseball was too scared to try and make new friends in the game, as to not accidentally make an enemy. I feel this is because Baseball was slowly realizing that most things he tried to do wouldn't go his way, so he'd cling on to Nickel as his only friend, hoping not to lose him, feeling lucky to have him at all (and Nickel would know all about luck/jjjjjjj). This lead to Baseball disregarding some of Nickel's actions towards himself and Suitcase as to preserve his relationship with Nickel. Though, I do feel that the bond they had was real. It started in season 1, where there was less drama built up over time(ex; Tophy and Knife in s2e1 planting the seed for their inevitable rivalry, vs Taco randomly being that bitch and that hoe. /silly), so Baseball most likely wasn't thinking about "preserving his friendship" with Nickel, but rather being friends with him in general. This gave them that time to have genuine interactions that build up the trust between the two. This is why Baseball played along with whatever Nickel did, 𝘣𝘦𝘤𝘢𝘶𝘴𝘦 𝘩𝘦 𝘵𝘳𝘶𝘴𝘵𝘦𝘥 𝘩𝘪𝘮. That friendship was real, and Nickel was taking advantage of Baseball without even realizing it. I doubt his did this consciously due to his s3 arc, and how he was programmed that way. Nta. /silly. Nickel getting eliminated was a real roadblock for Baseball because (as aforementioned) Nickel was Baseball's only real friend in the game at this point, and Baseball still had that very real connection with him. This is why I feel he was so awkward in s2e14, as he was trying to have that confidence that Nickel had, and he never did. As much as that's really good for him- like, yay! You go girl!! It's inadvertently horrible for him specifically, because he is hardwired to have all of his efforts for naught. It took Baseball all of s2e15 talking to Suitcase to realize all of Nickel's wrongs, and how ignoring them put him in the wrong too. Once he finally realized that, it seemed like Baseball was really coming into his own! Working out his own issues bit by bit.
WRONG!!🤑👅💜 s2e16. We got only one Baseball and Nickel interaction, but it was enough to change Baseball for the rest of the life he had left. Watching Nickel die/get X'd was like s2e13's elimination put to an extreme. It's clear that - even thought he was working out his issues - Baseball still had that strong attachment to Nickel. People respond to grief in many ways, but when things get too much for one person, they can simply go numb. Baseball was in a very sensitive mental state, and this really hit him where it hurts most. His best friend. He went numb, not telling anyone what he saw. Even in Baseball's last moments, he tried to take that leader-like stance, and help everyone but himself, just as Nickel told him he could.) // lil detour over (I say lil as if this wasn't long as HELL💜)
Though I did connect back to the main claim occasionally, Nickel was a very important part of Baseball's character development that matters to this conversation imo.
Getting out in s2e15 was also (possibly) a place where Baseball's programming played a part (alternatively, he got out because Suitcase had too many negative experiences with Baseball, and thought that her deep emotional views of him would impair her gameplay in the finale.) "Always strikes out", even with the people he thought were friends. Even with the person he thought was his friend. Even with Suitcase. I feel the reason Baseball had the response he did, was him coming to terms with things just not going his way, which sets him up in that sensitive mental state in s2e16. He seemed to have come to terms with Suitcase choosing Knife, and didn't want to procrastinate on the obvious, that he was just never enough. Not enough for Suitcase, not enough for his team, not enough to win the game.
He just wasn't the guy who could do it. And he knew he never would be.
He always strikes out.

Rurik Liderc and the stereotype of the broken (but sexy) anti-hero
(and how it makes him worse as a character)
Heyy, I'm back, kind of! This is my first actual rant, so I'm sorry if it's a bit boring or confusing. Feel free to ask me anything! This is just something that I've always had looming in the back of my mind, and I really want to talk about it.
In October 2005, Pop Punk band Green Day released their seventh studio album, American Idiot. It follows the life of the central character, Jesus Of Suburbia, a middle-lower-class all-American teen who hates his town and pretty much everything. He's pretentious, a rebel, angsty; a faithless, working-class man who hates the system he's placed in, screaming for the rebels living in post-2000s America. It comes as no surprise, then, that @angeutblogo's Lasser would inspire her iconic character, Rurik Lidérc, off the song that describes this main character.
As the years went by, Rurik gained more and more traits, hobbies, a story, friends, and of course, multiple lovers. As it is today, you could call him a multifaceted character- I'm here to say that this perhaps might've been his downfall, too. As it stands, Rurik is a badly constructed character, where new information contradicts old information and traits that are not in line with the logic set upon him initially are imposed. It seems that the creators try and stuff him to the brim with different exciting ideas, but ultimately end up getting a messy clump of characteristics that results in many users having to redefine him with headcannons and rereadings, myself included, because he ends up being so confusing.
First, Rurik being a US Army veteran is one of the biggest pillars in his personality. Although not a lot of information is revealed about that part of his life specifically and the effects it had on him, we can deduce that it greatly affected him in more than one way, changing him fundamentally; PTSD. A prime example is that Lasser has stated that he has an aversion to loud noises, such as fireworks and thunder, but then proceeds to state that it only makes him have a minimal response of being "more alert". How can he be fundamentally changed as a person due to trauma and still only suffer minor damage? Are the creators afraid of making a character that's fully and realistically traumatized by war because it would compromise his appealing "sexy bad boy" nature? But then, that very nature is driven forward by the very fact that he's traumatized, that he's "angsty". It just confuses me how posts speaking of his trauma are immediately followed by posts describing his kinks and hypersexuality, and descriptions of his mental state are switched out for retellings of future events where "everything is all right finally", not bothering to make him go through the process of recovery, and research of trauma responses or toxic relationships is traded for discussions of what motorbike he has. It almost seems like the creators want him to be many different things that cancel each other out.
Thus, this contradiction leads us to the next point: Dante and Rurik have an open relationship, despite Rurik being shown to be possessive and emotionally immature. Rurik is, in simple terms, a manchild at times, stalking Dante when he feels like it, being insecure, and being sad by small things Dante says, in addition to threatening his exes. Those are toxic, insecure behaviours, of course, but it gets brushed off as "oh, but it ends in them sexually punishing each other" (going into how their relationship is sexualized, but that's a topic for another day), which in itself is contradicting because it's written to be a healthy relationship that's good for the both of them. And yet, we get bombarded with recounts of Dante being toxic to Rurik and vice-versa. He's also said to get extremely uncomfortable when Dante flirts with other women because he "can't compare", so how on earth could they have an open relationship without constant interventions and fights?
I believe that, if Rurik is insecure, it would naturally cause him to believe that Dante is replacing him if he flirted with another person. This is because he has a fragile ego, and people like him tend to fall into that insecurity (speaking out of experience and my interest in human psychology), and it would lead to constant fights, doubts, manipulation, and overall a bona fide toxic couple. Perhaps even worse than Lurik, as Dante is constantly described as psychopathic and manipulative, even to Rurik himself. They're shown to kind of fix everything with sex and "punishments", downplaying the other's insecurities and genuine feelings and promoting unhealthy dynamics. Rurik is not written to be someone who could have an open relationship that would be fair to himself and Dante, and yet, they push on, because of course they do; they are entirely centred around having sex, after all.
So, where am I going with all this? In all the glamourized media that we see, there's a strong tendency to try and make perfect characters. Rurik Lidérc is broken, angsty, insecure, and repressed, but that doesn't get in his way at all! All he wants is sex, drugs, and rock and roll. He reminds me of James Hurley from Twin Peaks: his conflict can be so well-explored, his trauma could be so fleshed out and the effects of trauma on the human mind could have given us a beautiful story of redemption, of growth, of understanding. But God, he just keeps making out with Donna all the damn time, and the camera always focuses on him like he's in a Playboy magazine. The realism, the beauty, the relatability- it's all sacrificed for middle schoolers to ogle at him and go "Wow, he's so misunderstood! I could fix him!". But that comes at the cost of a character that has the full potential to be truly amazing, as I've seen with my friends in the fandom.
When you look at Rurik Lidérc, he comes across as well-researched because he's traumatized, but it doesn't take long before you realize that that's quite a far-fetched idea. It seems like he's just a list of ideas and randomness that no one bothers to organize, and that deeply saddens me because I've seen the interesting directions he could be taken in, and I just wish the love and care put into this character also shined through through the creators.

the wealthy regularly attempting (and failing) to obtain a "raw" representation when it comes to self-expression is humorous, it's also painfully evident (to me atleast)
wearing clothes that are secondhand whilst carrying a Burberry wallet and wearing Rick Owen shoes.. yawn
prowling Depop and Marketplace for anything labeled "distressed" aka: used - while wearing their red laser therapy masque and eating their pasta made with $15 Rao tomato sauce
it's also very ironic to me, that, and boring!

ACFTL was disappointing
Okay so it is currently 1:41 AM and I have finished reading A Curse for True Love and I have been let down and just wanted to get my thoughts out
Jacks characterization was the biggest down fall; The book is basically about Evangeline pinning for Jack but I wished it was the other way around; Jacks finds out Evangeline lost her memories and avoids him because she believes he is dangerous and he gets pissed off and desperately tries to get her back. I think this change in story telling would have allowed so much character growth for Jacks considering the fact he is so cold and calculating and having him grow desperate to have Evangeline by his side shows how much she had affected him and also showcase his humanity/vulnerability in his desperation to have her by his side as opposed to being cold and indifferent which leads me to the next point
JACKS BEING AN ASSHOLE-Literally every Evakjacks scene starts like this Jacks says a sassy/asshole dialogue>save Evangeline>Evangeline swoons>Jacks goes back to being an asshole again. Now I get Jacks often puts out a cold front because he doesn't want to be too close to Evangeline and hurt her. But we are three books in and it is established that Jacks loves her. So I don't understand the unnecessary rudeness like ie coming in the middle of the night tossing clothes at her face as she is waking up and almost knocking her off the bridge (yes I am well aware he was never going to let Evangeline fall) but dang does he have to be rude all the time???? I wanted Evangeline to tell him off, all she needed to say was something like "Jacks stop being such a jerk and wasting my time " and he would have stopped. But no. Evangeline is constantly talking about how angelic his face is and how blonde his hair is. Jacks treat your girl better pls????
Evangeline and damsel in distress x 1000000 -damn my girl cannot catch a break literally everyone is trying to kill her. Now I am a firm believer that strong female characters don't have to be physical fighters and I am ok with Eva not being a fighter. However, I wish she would have gotten herself out of danger at times maybe just by using her wits or having a strategy? I got tired of seeing Jacks saving her. Yes he did teach her self defense but not much came out of that?
SO MANY MISSING PLOT POINTS- The bite of on Evangeline's wrist-does she owe Jacks a debt anymore? Luc? What about Evangeline's parents, what about her family's shop-does she not want to go back to Valenda?? Probably more I cannot think of right now.
Evangeline is not the first fox? Major disappointment in that. The first two books heavily implied that Evangeline was the first fox and there were so many hints regarding that ie Chaos telling Evangeline she looked like the first fox in TBONA and Jacks having volumes of the archer and the fox in his office (clearly he is not over the fox girl either) Also the fact he is over Donatella just like that?? Didn't she cause him so much heartbreak? Atleast having them talk it out would have helped to bring closure. Also are we never going to figure out who the first fox girl was? If not Evangeline? IDK it takes away the true love/soul mates aspect that drawn me to Evajacks in the first place imo
TOO MUCH APOLLO. I don't know why we got so many chapters of him, I rather had more chapters of Jacks and EvaJacks moments. Especially when it was established that he is the antagonist so I do not know why he was a main character when it really showed have been more about Evangeline and Jacks
No evajacks wedding-I am super bitter that we don't get to see Jacks and Evangeline having their wedding like in her dream
Overall, I think TBONA was 100/10, definitely the best book in the series. I still love this series to death and I am grateful for Stephanie for sharing her story with us. I just feel so underwhelmed from the ending, it sooo could have been better. I think the biggest problem is that the story was too complicated. Stephanie should have kept it straightforward>Evangeline is the reincarnation of Jack's true love and the first fox, Apollo is the bad guy, Jacks fights to be with Evangeline, they win and get married. Not everything has to be sophisticated. It’s okay if stories are predicatable, they just need to be good.
3.5/5
#evangeline#jacks#spoilers#evajacks#acftl#caraval#i am so sad its 2:05 am lol this story did not hit#myrants#i still love this series to death still enjoyed all the evajacks moments#loved the confession scene

Rant topic: student council inauguration
AITA for getting mad that I wasn't given the position of treasurer at the student council?
A little back story, I was a candidate for student council president a few weeks ago, and I didn't win. The teacher (the teacher that helps manage the student council) PROMISED US that "even if you don't win, you will still be given a position in the student council and you will be prioritized to getting the position you want."
A few weeks passed and the interview for the positions in the students council is happening. I really wanted the position of treasurer which is considered one of the "main positions" in the student council.
The interviewers asked "if you don't get the treasurer position what other position would you like?" And I replied with "a position in the leadership division" as my second option.
I already had experience as the treasurer a year before this. So honestly saying I was very confident that I was going to get that position cause like the teacher said.. I was going to be prioritized to get the part.
A few days passed, the inauguration for the student council happened. I was shocked to hear that I didn't get the position for treasurer but instead a girl who has NO experience as treasurer whatsoever did.
It was even more shocking when I was given a position that I never said I wanted. I was given a position in the interest and talent division. That division does a lot of MC/master of ceremonies for events and Imo I'm not really fit for that role cause I'm not that good at talking.
It was even more disappointing to see that all the main positions in the student council were given to people who didn't candidate themselves even though the teacher said that they will be prioritized.
I soon found out that I was originally given the position of treasurer by the student council president and vice president, but the teacher has the final say on the positions. The teacher starts picking people to be in the student council who doesn't even want to be in the student council. The people that the teacher picked to be in the student council didn't even go to the interview yet they still got in.
After the inauguration, the students who didn't want to be in the student council but got picked started complaining on how unfair it was. Because there's a lot of people who wants to be in the student council but the teacher picked the ones that didn't even attend the interview.
Not only that, the division that they got doesn't even fit the students at all. Like for example division for discipline the student that got picked to be in that division are not disciplined at all. They come late they forget to do their school work and they break the rules.. Even the students themselves who got picked to be in that division agree that they are not disciplined.
SOOO AITA??

one thing i wish people understood more is the fact that drawing, or any process of creating art for the matter, isn't a test. there are no standards. there is no right or wrong, good or bad. art is just a form of expression. a visual language, if you must. to say that you should only draw/sculpt/etc if you're skilled at it would be the same as telling people they should only talk if they're skilled at it.
sure, there are 'good' speakers. people who have a way of saying things that draws you in, that attracts you, that makes you feel things. but that doesn't mean that they're the only ones who are allowed to speak, right? everybody talks. everybody expresses themselves, one way or another, no matter how fluent they are or how well they do it.
art is the same thing. people create in order to communicate—either with the world or themselves. so to say that only the art that is 'good' (read: appealing to a significant chunk of society) deserves to be called art, and that everything else is worthless, is, in my honest opinion, real fucking dumb. stop being so harsh with beginner artists, or literally anyone less skilled than others.
#sick and tired of watching beginner artists made fun of#especially with all the unsolicited advice like who made you an art cop???#let people draw ffs#myrambles#myrants#artist problems#art#artist struggles

I know this is an old post but since it's still circulating it means new people are bound to see it, so: This is terrible advice! Do not do it!
First of all, not every job out there goes through a recruiter. They're pretty standard in some fields but not at all used in others, so this might not apply to jobs you're looking for from the get-go.
Second of all, you don't know if your application will go through an electronic pre-screening at all. With many places, especially smaller ones, a real-life human is going to look through all of them (I work in local government for a town of 20,000 which hires for one position or another basically all the time and we don't use pre-screening tools at all). So at best, your little trick is going to be worthless.
Third of all, if your application goes into an electronic system, it's likely that the formatting is going to be stripped away and everything is going to be converted to plain text (at my place of work, we can still access the formatted version but the "clean" version is going to be there anyway for those who prefer it, which apparently many of my coworkers do). Which means that your little white job description is going to become black and immediately visible. Like, think about it. If an electronic system can read a PDF in such a way that it can highlight or sort with regards to keywords, it can also export "hidden" text into another format because it does not have eyes and doesn't "see" text in that way. If the mere act of converting your application into a PDF stopped the employer from "go[ing] in and see[ing] what you did", they wouldn't be able to highlight keywords, either, because the same kind of electronic "reading" is required for both.
Alison of Ask A Manager already talked about this nine years ago (and almost certainly ealier as well, I just couldn't find an example) (#3 at the link) and answered a letter which I'm pretty sure is about the exact Twitter post this whole thread is about (#5 at the link) and had another person asking about the TikTok version of this (#4 at the link) where she mentions that this apparent trick has been making the rounds online for over a decade and it's never been true.
There are a lot of interesting, insightful, and helpful replies in the comment section to all of these posts which I definitely recommend if you want to learn more about this topic.

the first rule of making your students take a test online is do NOT tell them how much time they have. second rule is enforce a shorter time limit than some people might expect. this way everyone's lives will be easier and you'll receive about 30 pdfs with everyone's test answers and almost identical teams messages about how they didn't manage to send them in time.
this is because everyone knows that students are psychic and know this type of information even when you don't include it in the email you sent about the test. and they work better and faster when they think they have more time, anyways
#love my rants about college#MyRants#anyways. this was stressful. and i didn't even manage to actually finish the test which is very frustrating#but hopefully i still pass cause i only need like 13 points out of 50#technically.#so. fingers crossed

Hello everyone! I just wanted to give a quick update, I'm okay and I'm so sorry for not posting as much. I've been trying my hardest to finish this apartment building for Roslyn and add in sims to the world but it's taken a lot longer than I originally thought. I have 4 apartment units left to finish at this point so I should hopefully be able to start posting SBL and Whimsy by next week, fingers crossed! I'm adding in some family members for the twins as well so I'll see if I can get around to posting a little something for that tonight.

I wrote like a 6 paragraph reply to your "I hate when people say "real women" when they mean "not models" post and then I went back and reread the post while I was editijg and realized oh damn we probably aren't even talking about the same issue. So i drafted it and clicked out and realized holy shit that post is from 2018. So I definitely don't think what I have to say is relevant. But what's important is u inspired me <3 #MyRant
