If you found out someone was so offended by a thoughtless and hateful meme you posted pertaining to a horrible event in their life that they avoided an opportunity to see you would you:

A. Apologize profusely and listen to their pain, assuring them of how it won’t happen again

B. Say that you weren’t talking about them specifically but about someone who probably, maybe lied because you want that to be true and not even contact the person you hurt

C. Talk about your own two horrific events and those of others you know and not be able to connect how your denial hurts all of those people. And still not apologize

It’s been almost 3 years since the last time I ran a 1 mile time trial. Back then I set a PR of 6:55 and I remember I was ecstatic that it started with a 6!  I didn’t really know what to expect today as I’ve recently run sub-6/mi pace 400m repeats, but my mile repeats have been more around 7:20/mi.

Today I ran this mile with my 13 year old son. His PR from last year was 6:20 and I was hoping to be closer to that than to my old PR.  I didn’t quite get close to 6:20, but I did beat him today! He ran a 6:38- though he started making excuses about accidentally pausing his watch or some-such, but dropped it when I reasoned that would make his time quicker. His watch is a bit less accurate than mine so I wouldn’t doubt if that could have some effect – we decided not to just use a stopwatch because we wanted to be sure to get a full mile for the PR, not just 1600m, plus one of the turns had sand/gravel in lane 1 so you had to take a slightly longer path.

Anyway, I’m pretty happy with a :22 improvement, especially when I looked up my weight from back then and found that I am at least 8lbs heavier now.

Gotta start somewhere. As part of the Strava #mymile event this month I headed over to the track at @wtwoodsonhs after logging 6 miles with the Saturday #longrun group at @lifetime.run Fairfax. I didn’t have great expectations given the heat and humidity, miles I had already run, and the fact I was wearing my @hokaoneone Cliftons, not track spikes. Last September at the Potomac Valley Games I ran a 5:34 mile. Today - 6:16. But after a winter of injury and spring of slow rehab that’s about what I expected. At the end of a day it’s a benchmark. And that’s fine. With all the running, 9 miles for the morning and over 18,000 steps before 10am. Had a crack at beating my fastest track mile tonight at the @stravarun My Mile at Mile End track. Missed it by 6 seconds with a 5:46. But got to witness some killer miles by a group of super fast runners. Inspiring stuff and definitely made me want to go faster over the mile distance. I've done 100 but there's something about the no guts, no glory approach you need that makes the mile special. I'll be back for sure. #mymile #strava

I owe so much to this little strip of land, water, and sky. . . . This path has seen some of my best runs, some of my biggest struggles and disappointments. It has been there for my recovery from rhabdomyolysis, and many teary eyed runs. I have seen some beautiful sights on this path and I have braved the cold and ice on this path. . . . Running this trail is where I truly fell in love with running. It's where I learned that I can totally go further than I thought I could, and where I have broken down and cried because my heart was too heavy and I felt like I had no control over my life. . . .
