Variable Addresses & Pointers - c++

A address is a string of binary code that references to different variables, actors e.t.c. inside of a unreal project.

You can grab references to actors and save them into a local variable, however you will get 2 sections of binary code that is the same as seen here :

So the better option is to use a pointer that will just store a short address to help find the actor in the binary, making it a lot less demanding on the system. This also saves up a lot more memory as you are only storing a small bit of the code.

You can do this by referencing the actor ("MyActor"), then creating a Actor pointer variable ("YourActor") by using a pointer operator (*) then setting the pointer to the actor refrence using "&MyActor;" This stops the entire data from being copyed over, and only stores a pointer to the original data.

One way of using this is to gather the owner of the actor via a pointer. This will make the game run better as well as reduce the memory usage of the game.

I’ve been reading the transcripts from the fallout 4 wiki for  Danse’s lines. 

Here is what I think are some highlights:

{Talking to a robot the player just released from captivity. - Danse trying to be funny? / Amused} The information contained within this robot's memory banks is vital to the survival of lushes and drunks across the Commonwealth. 

{Joking while entering an area where it is readily obvious Mirelurks are present. / Concerned} These mirelurks obviously have no respect for the historical significance of this location.

{Walking by an old radio station. / Neutral} Ah yes, the home of the famed "Charles River Trio." What? You're not the only one with a radio, you know.

{Disappointed to find a rumored treasure is just an old time capsule full of junk. / Friendly} Pre-war artifacts are more valuable than treasure. They give us glimpses at moments in time that will never repeat.  

{Walking through a bowling alley. / Neutral} I wish we had a recreational facility like this back at our headquarters.

{Looking at an enemy wearing a mascot head. / Confident} Be careful, he could be concealing an... on second thought, he's probably just out of his mind.

{Looking at a group of Super Mutants wearing sailors hats. / Puzzled} As if regular Super Mutants weren't bad enough, now we have to find something like this.

myActor: I could use a little pick-me-up.  {wry joke (unusual for Danse, so play it up) / Amused} Don't worry, the only reason I'm here is to get slightly intoxicated.

{half joking - or are you? play with it / SinisterSmile} Don't worry. If the radiation turns you feral, I'll put you out of your misery.

Player Default: I don't have time for a dick-measuring contest. What do you actually want?

Danse:{Puzzled}: That's an interesting colloquialism. Local, I take it?

{hiding that you're scared / Concerned} This place would elicit fear in most individuals. Fortunately my training prevents... wait... what was that?

I think what I like most about Danse as a follower is that he points out a lot of pre-war things, and the tragedy that the bombs dropping were, and slight wistfulness about life before the bombs.

{Looking at an amphitheater. / Confident} Listening to a performance here would have been extraordinary. {Walking into an old fish processing plant. / Neutral} I've never been fishing before. I wonder if it's even possible these days.   

{Looking at a drive-in movie screen. / Somber} I've never been fortunate enough to watch a moving picture show before. 

{Looking at a lion statue outside the Boston public library. / Confident} The lion was such a noble and majestic creature. It's a shame they're extinct.

Also I enjoy him just using unnecessarily long words to convey things.

{Entering an old speakeasy filled with hostile enemies. / Confident} There appears to be an illicit drinking establishment concealed down here.

Player Default: It was America's past-time. A sport that united families on warm summer days. And it wasn't violent. Mostly.

Danse: That sounds ideal. It's a shame it was so long ago.

And despite being fairly racist, he doesn’t like it if you’re rude to wiseman, kent or billy. Despite them being ghouls. 

(I mean he dislikes it if you save Kent, but he also dislikes if you kill kent? So he’s a confusing man)
