Hi! Challenging you to name your truly unpopular Bridgerton opinions :) A few of mine: 1. On the Way to the Wedding is my special favorite of the books (it's funny, it doesn't attempt to tackle the kind of more serious issues like depression that JQ tends to do really badly---see Marina---, it has something resembling an actual plot, I think Lucy and Gregory are examples of opposites who complement each other perfectly, Gregory is actually the sweetest and least problematic Bridgerton male imo and I love that he's a funloving romantic instead of a brooding jerk or a sexist rake, and it's just fluffy and mood lifting and fun!) 2. Anthony is fine as a character, but he would be absolute hell to live with/be married to in real life 3. Netflix series Kate was way too elegant, polished, poised and perfect---Book Kate, based loosely on the Taming of the Shrew, was more interesting 4. The show did Simon and Daphne such a disservice---Simon is not some smooth charming rake, the entire point of his character is that his stutter and the emotional neglect/abuse from his father prevented him from even talking to people, so he's actually a very introverted loner and his connection with Daphne is meaningful because she's the only person he can speak and open up to! And Daphne isn't the diamond of the first whatever, she's actually feared to be "on the shelf", an average girl who everyone likes well enough but guys see as just a buddy and no one views as special--until Simon! Instead, the show has them like the bitchy, cool popular kids at school lol. 5. Other than Eloise and Gregory, I always like the significant others much more than I like the Bridgertons themselves. 6. Hyanincth comes off like a borderline sociopath to me and is so insufferably arrogant---I liked Gareth well enough and the dash of mystery in their story but can't stand her! 7. Overall, I like JQ's Smythe-Smith series better than Bridgerton 8. Benedict is so gross and terrible in his book and not even a remotely interesting or compelling character. Sophie is generic too in a kind but flatly flawless way these romance heroines sometimes are, but I wish she would have told him to get lost. 9. I just will never believe that Colin loves Penelope as much as he loves him, and I think Show Colin is really poorly cast and written so far--he's so supposed to be so charismatic and naturally charming but comes off as so stiff and flat! Okay, thanks for listening to me, and I can't wait to read yours!

I did not like on the way to the wedding and wasn't able to finish it. I don't know if it's that I don't connect to Gregory and Lucy as characters or what, but they just came off really bland to me.

I think Simon and Daphne are the worst regardless of version

My favorite couple and book are Philoise and To Sir Philip With Love because every other couple is some level of stereotypical romance to me, and I don't really connect emotionally with any of them. (Along with Michael and Francesca who are my second favorites. I basically like the least known/least popular couples in Bridgerton the most.)

I don't like or need Marina in any Bridgerton medium. She just basically makes the books much sadder than they need to be with the poorly handled details of the character (agree with you on that) and in the show, I don't think increasing her presence (whether it's because a WOC was cast to play her or whatever reason) justifies how much she's in the story, especially if they have to stick to a Philoise endgame for contractual reasons. (aside from all the misery her character brings to TSPWL, if you took her out and just did a throwaway line that she died with no more detail and just let Philip, Eloise, and the twins have the story, it would be a hilarious thing cause it is.)

I am a fan of An Offer From a Gentleman (although I totally see what you mean about how Sophie can be flat as an example of a very generic, well-worn trope, and sometimes her stubbornness when we know that she and Benedict are gonna end up together anyway can be a bit annoying.) If she's gonna be independent and against marriage, etc to the point where she brings it up every five minutes, yeah...she should have been allowed to be alone a la Genevieve

Lots of people won't like me for this but...I find Colin and Penelope (as a couple) to be underwhelming in any universe, which is why, even though it made sense when they explained why the third Bridgerton show season had been switched to Colin and Pen, I was frustrated. I totally think that the show should have let Pen Ladywhistledown herself into an awesome businesswoman life and just let Colin do something else. (especially after all the time the show wasting shoving the stuff with Penelope's family in to fill time, thus taking attention away from Anthony and Kate when it's their fricking story. Season two had me drowning in Featheringtons and now with Colin and Pen's story next, I don't let a reprieve when I sorely need one.)

I am so happy that I am not the only one who didn't like Netflix Series Kate. Although Simone played her well and I've got nothing against her as an actress, I felt like her casting turned the character (and the ship as a whole) into a half-hearted Bollywood P&P not the story I was promised, which was really irritating). Book Kate is one of my loves and I just...what they did to the character in the show was just underwhelming, although people who enjoyed it for the representation it provided, more power to you.

In general, I think the Netflix versions write their original characters better than when they're trying to adapt what JQ wrote (especially since their attempts to address stuff like racism and feminism come off heavy-handed and clumsy to the point where it feels like the writers either don't realize they're writing something that isn't new and just sticking whatever they want in the story to appeal to social justice or whatever doesn't work, or they're scared of the stories themselves and should have just left them alone if they feel they can't put them out there without completely rebuilding them first.

Based on the amount of filler season two had to have so that everyone cast could have a role (see my complaint about the Featheringtons above) I feel like the it would have been better to adapt each book into like, a mini series or eight movies so they wouldn't HAVE to worry about having to account for so many people and every story could tell the story it's suppose to tell without getting distracted cause people need paychecks.

look, y'all can all gleeful cancel me for this #unpopular opinion if you want, but even IF Nicola wasn't nominated for the comedy section and it was her and Luke head to head in best drama?

I'd still vote for him

because I genuinely and truly think his acting is INCREDIBLE. and I think he's one of the better actors on Bridgerton full stop. I love the nuance he brings to Colin as a character, I love how he so fully embodies him as a character and that Colin has similarities to him, but is fully different at the same time. Colin does not talk like Luke, walk like Luke, even fidget like Luke. He has his own character beats and yes, sometimes parts of Luke bleed into him, such as with the head tilt, but the voice is different, softer, the movements of Colin as a character are distinct to me, he delivers humor well ('you'd already be dead?') and his decisions for Colin as a character are ICONIC (I'm never forgetting that dress adjustment with specific fingers was all him). Colin had a harder go of it than a lot of leads because his story isn't as loud- he doesn't get a lot of big, dramatic moments to have big dramatic acting, and honestly the show didn't give him a lot of screentime in the first place. But when he does have poignant emotional moments? They feel REAL. He isn't given as much time with the audience as other characters are and he doesn't go for the broad strokes with his acting, so sometimes I think he can get lost in some of the louder acting, but that doesn't negate the fact that he's GOOD. He's a good ass actor. He plays Colin like Colin is an actual person.

And for me? For me, that hits home. Even with truncated time on his own season (yeah, I'm still bitter), he delivers every single time. Anger, betrayal, longing, heartache, silly awkward humor, heat- and he does all of those emotions BELIEVABLY. I watched Luke Newton depict Colin falling in love so beautifully and so realistically, I HAVE NO CHOICE but to give him his flowers. Just because he's not as heavy in the hustle as other actors are (please remember this is a neurodivergent actor with anxiety and dyslexia, mental health is important and it's good he took a break ) doesn't mean he's not a fantastic actor. And if you've ever seen his depiction in The Shape of Things? The man is excellent.

I think Bridgerton has a lot of 'big moves' actors. And that's fine. Many people prefer that. But I prefer the nuanced moments and the softer beats of it all, and I think if the camera had allowed us as an audience a longer glimpse into moments with Colin, we'd all be even more floored. I can watch gifs of his scenes over and over and over again and find something new every time.

So y'all can sit there and accuse others of a 'pity vote' but idgaf. Luke Newton is one of the best actors on that show. And I stand by that. Eat me.

Unpopular opinion incoming and I feel like I don't really know how to explain it but I feel people who are calling Eloise a bully and saying she's not a girl's girl are dismissing the world bridgerton plays in.

Of course wanting to get married, having children and enjoying girly things like embroidery is totally valid but Eloise is living in a world where that's all that women are allowed to be. So her only way of fighting this is having an "I'm not like other girls attitude" cause really what else can she do?

She hates that she can't choose to be different cause of the societal pressure women of that time were under.

I think most women who fought for change throughout history had to have her attitude in order to challenge those norms every now and again.

I think she's rather lonely and could use a friend who's having the same principles as her. It must be so difficult to constantly be surrounded by women who seem to be content with what's going on or at least don't feel the need to change things. She's probably feeling a little hopeless and that is what makes her behave the way she does. It's not perfect and not always right but I totally get it

this may be an unpopular opinion and please by all means take my little headcanon with a grain of salt. but i fully believe that before season three, before his seventeen city travel, colin bridgerton was a virgin. which does not matter either way, like who cares. but i think it’s important to note because it goes in hand with his ‘big change’ in s3.

he has stated many times how he has changed and become more himself, even going as far as trying to convince his family in which eloise insinuated he must be lonely, and his mother did not believe it at all. but then when he’s confessing to pen he says he’s tried his hardest to be what society wants him to be, and even got pressed at the guys he went out drinking with because they were acting how society viewed the best way for men to act back then; having a dozen different conquests and bragging about it.

so while many dislike his little threesome scene i think it was him just further trying to convince himself that he was this suave man of society like his brothers and like hey look i’ve grown up i’m no longer the golden boy. (also let’s not forget how annoyed he got with his brothers talking about purpose, this is important ok because with this ‘big change’ he did i fully believe he thought he’d find himself and his purpose)

EARLY Predictions for Bridgerton Season 4

BENEDICT IS OFFICIALLY CONFIRMED TO BE THE LEAD FOR SEASON 4!

I've had this in my drafts for a couple of weeks. But now that Benophie is officially happening next season, I have some EARLY predictions for the next season. I'll have more predictions when we finally have a clip or a trailer, but for now I'm gonna cast a wide net for what I think will happen in season 4.

1- MASQUERADE!

They really name-dropped that masquerade ball like Tahani Al-Jamil name drops her celebrity friends. And they mentioned it in the promo with Luke T. The masquerade ball is happening! My guess is it'll happen somewhere in the first two episodes of season 4. This will be where Benedict meets his Cinderella/mysterious Lady In Silver/Sophie Beckett.

The code name for season 4 is supposed to be Vauxhall, where we saw Daphne and Simon launch their fake dating plot in season 1. That was a public ball, which means that anybody who could pay the fee could get into it. Perhaps we'll return there for the masquerade ball. Makes much more sense for Sophie to be able to crash that instead of a private ball at the Bridgerton house.

Let's just hope her carriage doesn't turn into a pumpkin before she can make her escape.

2- A Possible Time Jump

In Benedict's book, he meets Sophie at the masquerade, she runs away at midnight, and then he doesn't see her again for another two years. I think a time jump could happen again. Specifically for a few of my upcoming predictions.

Also, it would add to the drama.

Can you imagine the reaction from the fans with the screen fades to black and then some text fades in that reads TWO YEARS LATER?

3- Kate and Anthony Might Not Make An Appearance Next Season

Possibly an unpopular opinion, but I almost dont know why they bothered with having Kate and Anthony in season 3. It seemed like it boiled down to "We're here! We're hot! We're horny! And we're fucking off now! Bye!"

At least when Daphne showed up in Anthony's season she helped drive the plot forward and tried to help guide her brother on the bumpy road to matrimony. Anthony had one half-assed conversation with Colin about his engagement to Penelope. Kate did most of the heavy-lifting when it came to important talks with the family. She did most of the talking to Colin the night before his wedding to Penelope. (Not that it mattered because all of her work was undone the moment Charlotte showed up to the wedding.)

Kate also gets credit for speaking with Eloise to try and smooth things over between her and Colin. And then they left their family for a third time to go all the way to India, a journey that's going to take them six months one way.

But with a time jump, that would give enough time for Anthony and Kate to go to India, have their baby, spend some time there, and then make the long journey back to be present after the time jump with a toddler.

(With how pregnant Kate was looking at the wedding, I would not be surprised if she gave birth at sea. She and Anthony did not think that plan through at all. And why the hell did they leave without attending Francesca's wedding??? And when the Queen was certain that a Bridgerton was behind Lady Whistledown???)

Anthony and Kate being absent would also be a convenient way to keep the Bridgerton House set around for a little while longer.

Anyway, sending Kate and Anthony off to India felt like a way to let Jonny and Simone do other projects for a season instead. Jonny himself is probably gonna be busy with all of the press for the upcoming Wicked movie. So if the announcement comes that they won't be around, I wouldn't be surprised.

4- Last Season for Queen Charlotte Queen Charlotte Lives Forever!

Bridgerton is not known for being 100% historically accurate. And let's face it, even if it were, people would still be complaining about the historical inconsistencies. But one thing Bridgerton is creeping up on is the year 1818. And it's in November of that year that the real-life Queen Charlotte passed away.

Season 4 will, I assume, start in 1816. If they do a one-year time jump, we'll get the rest of the season in 1817 when the main events of Benedict's book take place. If they do a two-year time jump, like they did in the books, then we'll be in 1818 and we'll be in the year we say goodbye to Queen Charlotte.

BUT, the showrunners have pretty much said that they've decided the show exists in an "alternate universe" and they're just going to keep Queen Charlotte around for a while.

The Queen lives. Long live the Queen.

5- Eloise Meets Sir Phillip Crane (?)

While the masquerade references were heavy-handed, the references to Philoise were more subtle. In episode 3x02, Eloise wears a dress that is patterned with the same flower that was gifted to her by Sir Phillip in the books. And in 3x05, when trying to make herself feel better about her betrothal, Cressida tells Eloise that the two of them can "flirt with widowers." The showrunners are slowly setting up the Eloise/Phillip dynamic--they have been since season 1. I think they'll set more things into motion in season 4 and set them up for season 5.

Eloise already expressed to Kate how she felt as if everyone was pairing off and leaving her behind. Benedict's marriage will end up being the tipping point for Eloise.

Phillip would have lived the life of a botanist/academic if it weren't for his brother's tragic passing. Perhaps his academic connections could play a part in Eloise's desire to meet new people and change the world?

If they meet in season 4, it could be the catalyst for them to begin to exchange letters like they did in the books. Which will ultimately set them up for their story in season 5.

Of course, this also means that Marina is going to have to die offscreen at some point 😐

6- Cressida Redemption (?)

One of my major gripes with season 3 was that they gave so much time to the threesome subplot that two other subplots seemed to have no real conclusion or were dropped completely. One of the subplots that didn't get wrapped up as nicely as it could have was Cressida's. We didn't see her reaction to Penelope unmasking herself as Lady Whistledown. She just kind of...left.

There is a long-standing fan theory that Cressida will have a part to play in the Benedict/Sophie story based on a piece of script that named Cressida's mother "Araminta". If this is true, then I think we'll see Cressida in some way next season. And maybe she'll get a happier ending. I never thought at the beginning of the show that I'd want Cressida to end up happy somewhere, but boy season 3 did a great job of making me actually sympathetic to her character.

7- Another Offscreen Wedding

One thing that I know frustrated Kathony fans last season was not seeing an onscreen wedding for Kate and Anthony. I mean, we saw a wedding, and Kate and Anthony were there, but he almost got married to the wrong person. The closest we got was Anthony disassociating so hard that he astral projected himself into an alternate reality.

The only onscreen weddings to canonical spouses we've seen have been the Daphne/Simon, Colin/Penelope, and Francesca/John weddings. But if anybody was hoping to see an onscreen wedding with Benedict in season 4, think again.

I believe that the drama of Benedict and Sophie's story will keep up through all eight episodes of their season. And, like Kate and Anthony's season, we'll flash forward in time at the end of the episode to Benedict and Sophie several months into their marriage. But we won't get to see the actual wedding.

8- Crossdressing Sophie (?)

Admittedly, this is less of a prediction and more wishful thinking on my part. This is the route I would go down if I was writing for the show, anyway.

Show!Benedict now being canonically pansexual has opened up the possibility for him to have an LGBTQ+ partner. But I have a slightly different idea. One plot point of Benedict's book is that Sophie, after running away from her stepmother's house, cuts off all of her hair to sell when she's desperate for money.

I think Show!Sophie could still get her hair cut off like in the book, and then go around disguised as a man for safety/freedom of movement/job opportunities. Then Benedict gets confused when he discovers Sophie in "boy mode" because he hasn't felt this level of attraction to someone since his Lady In Silver.

Maybe we'll get a Victor/Victoria scenario out of it (woman pretending to be a man pretending to be a woman).

Like I said, this is less of a prediction and more of the route I would go down if I was writing for the show. It probably won't happen this way. But maybe I'll give fanfic writers some plot bunnies.

Part 3: re: New Speculation that L&N have been together since Toronto

Pattern of L’s and N’s circle of friends

I think part of her secret code to L is as long as she’s wearing her claddagh ring, she’s still in. I don’t know what L’s secret code is - I think it’s as long as he’s on lifeguard duty, he’s still in 😂

Unpopular Opinion: It could be good that the Crabtrees not show up in the show

Allow me to make my case in bullet points:

I understand their comic relief role in the book. However, I don't believe their brand of comedy is necessary in the show. Why? Because we already have Luke Thompson, the comedic genius, that's why. Let him do his thing.

There are ENOUGH characters. We don't need to conjure yet another storyline vying for attention within the already crammed 8 episodes. It's better, to me at least, to enhance the intimacy at My Cottage instead of watering it down.

Their absence would give Benophie the whole house to themselves. More Benophie screentime, them be alone together, unchaperoned, which is what we want. Sophie will be allowed, for the first time in her life, a place where she can breathe, relax and just be herself, without anyone reminding her to remember her station. It would strengthen her attachment to My Cottage, how quickly she can find herself at home there. And without a moderator to uphold the status quo, it would just be so much harder for both Benedict and Sophie to maintain behind their class barriers.

No Mrs. Crabtree means no woman's clothes, meaning Sophie would have no choice but to walk around My Cottage drowning in Benedict's baggy shirtsleeves and trousers. The entire time. Admittedly, this one is for me personally, but I don't think I need to elaborate on the delicious potential this would bring.

That speech Sophie gave Mrs. Crabtree about being unsure of her standing in the world and her insights into social conventions? Let her give that to BENEDICT. Let him process that. Let him grapple with learning this astute observation from her and how to reconcile it with his growing attraction to Sophie. Let him spiral. Now why wouldn't you want to see Benedict spiral?

Benedict has the opportunity to become the Bridgerton who knows how to operate a stove. Sophie teaches him how to brew his own tea. He eagerly aids her as she cooks, carefully collecting the bits and pieces that she reveals about herself. He makes her laugh with his earnest novice behaviour. The first time he touches her chin (he does that a lot in AOFAG, it's insane how cute that is), is to wipe away a smudge of soot or flour that lingers on her skin, etc...

The casual comfort and intimacy at My Cottage would give way to whiplash effect with sharper contrast when they return to haughty Mayfair without the presence of another downstairs-couple beforehand to soften the blow. The constraints of high society descending upon them literally the second they set foot in the city, customs both know they're required to acquiesce yet neither can bear to comply. The harsh realisation of their class disparity being brought into painfully glaring focus, visually. Can you just taste the angst??

In conclusion, if the Crabtrees are already cast, it'd be fine. But if they aren't, I'd prefer the show keep it that way

Okay I finished Bridgerton S3 and I need to watch it at least 10 more times to form a full opinion but my main takeaway is this... Colin and Penelope's relationship felt so... authentic. Not just to the book, but as in they felt like real people with a real marriage. Their scenes of intimacy felt so real that I almost felt embarrassed watching (almost, but not quite!). I do wish their physical reunion had more time at the end, but overall I just adored their story.

And second... the Bridgerton family as a whole. I love them too much! I miss them all being together! Bring Daphne back next season! And Anthony (unpopular opinion but Anthony was boring AF this season... he got married and apparently lost his entire personality)! But yeah I just love the Bridgerton sibs and I don't ever want their shenanigans to end! Especially Eloise and Benedict. PRECIOUS BABES.

Anyway, I'll have more thoughts soon but I really loved it.

I’ve finished Bridgerton Season 3 Part 2 and I have some thoughts…

Here’s my honest opinion:

It’s not good.

I’m sorry and I don’t care if it’s an unpopular opinion and, overall, I did not like it that much and Polin deserved so much better.

Overall, Part 1 was far superior. Both Polin and the sideplots. In Part 2, after Kanthony left the scene I couldn’t care less about the sideplots.

If people don’t like Polin, they still won’t after Part 2, and if people love them (as I do), they will be disappointed and earning for more.

I liked the love scenes (a lot) and they were good, the problem is… there were so few of them. And I’m not talking about “sex scenes” but moments where they seem to be in love and their love feels real. Because that was lacking in Episodes 7 e 8 due to the way the writters managed the angst. We got more Polin angst than love scenes in Part 2 and the way the plot dealt with things, well, it was not good. At all. And it left a sour taste in my mouth.

The leading couple didn’t “felt” like “the” leading couple at all, because there was so much going on and so many romantic sideplots. For a moment I even thought they would give us a double wedding with Francesca and John 🙄

The angst was done terribly, if I’m being honest. And it went on and on for 2 whole episodes, until there was no more angst because the queen was cool with Penelope being Whistledown and everything was fine but we didn’t even got a decent love scene afterwards. I mean: what in the actual fu-?

Also, the angsty plot was too similar to Daphne and Simon’s in Season 1, but the diference is the viewer still felt they were in love with each other. It didn’t felt the same way with Polin. We didn’t need Daphmon 2.0. with Polin, we really don’t.

Many things gave Polin a bad look, in my opinion:

Before the Whistledown Mess, can someone explain what the hell did Colin mean with that terrible speech about falling down of horses and being in mud at the engagement party? Whatever happen to his romantic speeches?

They made it seem as if Colin only agreed to proceed with the wedding out of duty (because mirror scene) and not because he was in love with Penelope;

R.I.P. wedding night and honeymoon (they could at least gave us some angsty almost-sex or kissing scene or something like that);

Colin accusing Penelope of “seducing” and “trapping” him: excuse me, Lord Fingerton, the girl was a virgin with no idea of what she was doing and was about to marry another man, WTF are you rambling about??

Colin avoiding Penelope as she had the plague; again Daphmon 2.0. but they made it seem very one-sided with only Penelope earning for Colin (yet again);

Eloise forgiving Penelope before Colin did;

They made it seem as if Colin only forgave and accepted Penelope as Whistledown because the Queen somewhat gave her “blessing”;

Colin was mad at Penelope because he was envious of her talent and success as a writer. What a bunch of bollocks.

So, yeah… the writers messed up.

Polin should have resolved the Whistledown Mess in Episode 7, before their wedding, and then Episode 8 being them dealing with Queen Charlotte, together as a couple. Also, Colin should have found out about her secret much sooner instead of being Episode 6 cliffhanger. But, no, we had to watch Benedict, yet again, shagging random characters because the showrunners refuse to give the man his own season!

Let's talk about Pen, because oh boy I have thoughts 💭 and the short version is "you go girl, good for you, you deserve everything".

Let me start by making a huge shout out to Nicola because she is amazing. I'm in awe of her performance!

And also, disclaimer: this is a very personal opinion based on my experience and my views. Every opinion, as long as it respectful, is valid in my book because it's yours.

But, back to Pen. I do not have to imagine what it feels like pining for someone. To those who never experienced it, imagine all the good stuff about being in love with someone combined with the torture of not be able to he with that person. Don't recommend but sometimes it's just how it is.

And in this context what you do receive, in various form, is a recycled statements along the line of "you have to move on". By the way, and I know this might be unpopular, as long as you don't hurt anyone or go on stalker mode, pining is fine. It might pass, with time. It evolves and it changes, but as long as you're respectful there is nothing wrong with that.

Add to this the layer of "marrying is the only way to get out of this house" I don't blame her for trying. Not one bit.

I already touched on previous threads that I don't find shameful or pitiful asking to kiss Colin. It's over the top? Maybe, but losing hope can make people acting like that.

Moreover, I love that, in the beginning of the carriage scene, Pen doesn't believe Colin. Or doesn't want to believe him. It's been years, so of course you don't believe it, initially.

And I love that when Colin tries to go back "Forgive me" that's when she take a step in his direction. The bravery that it took to speak, I could not image it.

And afterwords, when they stop and Colin adjusts her dress 👀 and she says "what are you doing?" In the softest voice... I think that part broke me. Because imagine having everything you've ever wanted right in front of you, and still there is a part of her brain that doesn't believe it.

As proven by the "Colin?" When he steps out of the carriage. Because even when everything should be okay, but you're not used to happiness and comfort and security, it's normal to doubt.

It's heartbreaking but so real! And yes, there are conflicts that are going to be resolved, but let me touch briefly before this truly becomes an essay on the importance of representation.

Because it's rare to see stuff like this. So rare but so important. The fact that we are waiting to suspend our belief when it comes to Marvel and Star Wars, but we drew the line at this (which is much more common that people think) speaks to me about how much we still have to work on representing different body types.

So, in conclusion, this part 1 made me feel seen. Because everyone deserves love and connection (in different forms according to each). Everyone. Don't let anyone tell you different. Thank you, Pen. Thank you, Colin. Thank you, Bridgerton.

Unpopular opinion:

I understand there are plenty of people who want Violet and Lord Anderson to get together, fall in love and get married but I don’t.

I don’t have any interest in this pairing and wish the show had paired him with Portia instead. Mostly because I find it romantic in fiction when someone loses their great love and never replaces them. I also love the idea of Portia getting a love match since she’s a widow who has never known love. I would much rather see a woman who’s never known what it was like to love and be loved, finally have a partner in her life who values her.

This isn’t to say Violet doesn’t deserve happiness and love. But this woman was so devastated by losing Edmund because she loved him so deeply, that she’d hoped she would die in childbirth just to be with her love again. I just can’t see the show having her remarry anyone when she’s so free to be fully herself as Lady Violet Bridgerton.

Remarrying would make her Lady Violet Anderson, a Bridgerton at heart who is no longer a Bridgerton in name. Given the way society was then, she would never again live in a Bridgerton house and she’d be expected to obey Lord Anderson and act as his wife and property which would be a whole new life she’d have to adjust and adapt to. And since Marcus doesn’t have his own home in London, she’d likely be expected to move back to the country with him when he inevitably leaves since he’s got his own estate to manage and probably won’t be staying in London indefinitely. Violet also has all the money and status she could possibly need so she literally has none of the period appropriate incentives another woman might have to remarry.

I’m not looking to be lectured on why you agree with whatever the show runners have in mind. I don’t find it necessary to pretend I love every single thing the show changes from the books because I don’t, and I find lots of the show changes to be unnecessary and don’t think they improve anything. I loved that bookViolet simply never wanted to replace Edmund and remarry and that she found purpose in raising her family and supporting her children and grandchildren. I don’t think there’s anything wrong with that.

If my husband passed away I wouldn’t remarry. But people who are codependent often need to always have someone. I however, am very independent and perfectly comfortable alone.

I’m curious if anyone else feels this way.
