I was absolutely devastated, ended up just writing script and doing crummy thumbnails with my finger. Luckily the first thing we did in Tokyo was go to an electronics store to buy me a new one.

I'll try to do a few more of these silly Japan trip comics when I have the time but they're gonna be fast and messy haha! Plenty of antics have already ensued and it is only day 3 here.

He remembered all his stuff! (We think.)

Today and tomorrow are travel days, and then the real fun begins. I’ll be following his progress via emails from the teachers.

I hope he has fun. I hope he learns a lot and practices his Japanese.

I also hope he realizes that an American trans man will never fully belong in Japanese culture before he tries to live there; I know he wants to move there and I don’t want him to get a rude awakening when he’s in a place where he can’t just come home (stuck in a work contract, etc.).

It’s a lot to think about.

But for now, I mostly hope he has a good time. This is a once in a lifetime opportunity for him, and I hope it’s amazing while teaching him everything he needs to know.

He’ll be going to Tokyo, Kyoto, Osaka, and Hiroshima.

I miss him already. Two weeks without my kid? Damn. I know I’ve been away from him for longer stretches when he was with his dad during Covid, but I was sick and miserable then. I want to hang out with him or at least hear from him now, and I won’t until the 19th.
