Fëanorian Week 2023, Day 2: Maglor

It took me no fewer than half a dozen attempts to even get a sketch I liked for Maglor.  I kept trying to include an instrument into the composition of the piece but they all just looked so weird and out of place until I realized: stone statues don’t often have instruments in them because there are just too many fragile elements.  So I just left it out and finally it started coming together.

That being said, I originally raised the question of which instrument would be best in a Maglor drawing to my friend group before I had fully decided on a pose for him.  We were bouncing between panpipes and a lute when one said “maracas LOL” and I realized that I had just been granted the opportunity to create one of the most blursed images I’ve ever set to paper or tablet.  So here you go: Maracglor.

Just out of frame are Finrod on the steel pans and Fingon on bongos.

I made myself an Audrey2-esque man-eating plant for my desk out of trash^^ She's named Alice, and she stands about 4 inches tall. Made out of an old cough syrup cup, card stock, hot glue, wire and a few pebbles, all painted in acrylics. I'm pretty proud of her.

“Lost Love”

My monochromatic found object sculpture.

Made of various discarded objects including old defunct chargers, broken headphones, fabric, & clay.

It was inspired by two significant turbulent confusing & difficult love connections I’ve recently experienced.

A psychic informed me that I’ve been cursed by a spirit & that’s why these soul ties could never culminate & were difficult. This spirit would draw these ties away from me. She said the first relationship had already been lost & I was in the process of losing the second one unless I drew the spirit away hence the title “Lost Love.”

I made this sculpture to cope with these losses.

Trash boy!

Currently practicing making armatures for paper clay projects. I think he's kinda cute so far

this is a piece i called “self expression - $60” and was made with a mannequin i saved from the trash at a former workplace, and a bunch of other stuff that should’ve been thrown away, like a deck of cards that was missing cards, and a sheet that had a giant hole in it. the back is made out of cut up strips of a free book of writings and the side has purple lining from an old belt. my college graduation cap and flowers also feature.

i was working 50 hours a week when i made this, determined to spend some of my freetime creating something that had absolutely no monetary value. while making it, i spent a lot of time frustrated about how trying new art usually involves spending a lot of money on supplies (hence the title) and thinking about what to do with my life now that i’m no longer in school (hopefully more monetarily-worthless art).
