i have so many damn games in my steam library and i have not played or even tried to play a huge amount of them. anyways. despite all the options i have i am now at a loss of what to play next. the last things i have played are da: the veilguard (2 complete playthroughs, so i really need a break from that before finishing my 3rd), oxenfree and oxenfree 2 as well as citizen sleeper.
the last 3 were short games so they took maybe like 20 hours for me, total. and as such, i might now be interested to try something longer again... but the problem is... what would that be? (i am interested in avowed that will be released soon but unfortunately it is out of my price range before there's a proper sale so that is, sadly, out of the question right now 😔)
so... mutuals who are gamers (and followers and everyone else who sees this as well i guess), i would like to ask for your help!
i am mostly thinking of rpgs, preferably group rpgs (because i enjoy having a companion or companions with me at all times), and something that's not from the 1st person point of view if at all possible because i, unfortunately, get motion sickness very easily when playing in 1st person. (i have played and enjoyed 1st person games in the past but especially with longer games it takes me forever to finish them because of the motion sickness so...)
other than the games already listed above, i have also played and enjoyed before: all the other dragon age games, the first two mass effect games (years ago but i remember them fondly), pillars of eternity-series and disco elysium, to mention some. i prefer real time with pause but that is not a must. also, i play games mostly for the story and the characters, not the mechanics or the combat so a good story and/or interesting lore is more important to me than anything else in a game, really.
please give me suggestions, kind people! ☺️
#and if you want you can give a little summary on why you'd recommend that game specifically#my steam library is quite full of all kinds of stuff so chances of me already owning your suggestions are high#and i'm not opposed to buying a new game or two either as long as they're not super expensive right now because i am kinda broke atm#anyway#hope i'll get at least some suggestions#because i honestly have no idea _what_ i'd like to play next and your suggestions would make my decision much easier#since there are too many games in my steam library and ughhhhh i do not have the time or patience to comb through all of them#rpgs#crpgs#rpg recommendation#video games

Pretty | Bakugo Katsuki x Reader
wc: 1.5k
You anxiously tap your fingers along the table as you review the notes you had taken earlier that week. Most of them were mere scribbles, but at least they were legible enough for you to grasp the concept taught to you. This test was going to be killer, and you wonder how you could possibly retain all this information by tomorrow. You huff, rubbing your temples and closing your eyes for a moment. All this worrying and studying is going to give you a headache. Placing your chin in your palm, you give your brain a break and survey the library.
"Oi! Pay attention or you're going to fail tomorrow!" Bakugo, your study partner, yells. You frown at him and put a finger to your lips.
"Well, stop yelling or you're going to get us kicked out. Again," you whisper harshly. He glares at you for a moment before going back to work, mumbling something under his breath. With a roll of your eyes, you continue to glance around the room. It was pretty empty. You and Bakugo are in the back corner, the place the librarian was least likely to hear him screaming. Not that it worked most of the time. Gradually, your gaze fell onto Bakugo. You blink once. Twice.
Oh my God.
Your heart skips a beat as your cheeks flush a pink hue. Your mouth falls open as you, quite openly, ogle at him. He isn't angry, or glaring, or screaming. He's calm. His cheek leans into his palm as he twirls a pencil in his other hand. His features are as relaxed as you had ever seen them. There's something stunning about this change in demeanor. Something different; something... cute.
It isn't like your little crush on Bakugo is anything new. Pretty long-running, actually. To the point where it was kind of sad if you really thought about it. Not that you thought about it all that much, though. You never lost sleep over thoughts of him or missed important notes because you were staring at him or gotten a pretty nasty punch because you lost yourself in his eyes in the middle of a spar. Psh. You could hardly even call it a crush.
“What are you staring at?”
You nearly jump out of your skin at the question. How long had you been staring? You can feel your cheeks darken in color as he glares at you quizzically. Dammit, you think, you ruined it. You huff a laugh, pointedly going back to your notes. "I have no idea what you're talking about."
"Hah? Bullshit!" He rises from his seat, hands slamming on the table. "Don't lie to me!"
You grab his arm and attempt to yank him back into his seat. "Stop yelling!" you urge as quiet as possible. You glance behind, luckily not seeing an angry librarian rushing over. He plops down into his seat, scowling at you silently over crossed arms.
"Why were you staring at me?" he growls, quieter this time.
"I wasn't. I was just lost in thought."
"You're a shitty liar." You swiftly kick him under the table.
"Will you shut up? What happened to you wanting me to study?" You pluck your notebook from the desk and swiftly bury your face in it. You really try to read the notes, but you're so flustered that it all becomes a giant mess of letters. Bakugo pulls the notebook back to the table. "Do you need anything?"
His glare hardens, smoke beginning to pour out of his hands. "Why won't you just tell me?" he grumbles dangerously. You roll your eyes. Obviously, you weren't going to get anything done. Leaning back in your seat with crossed arms, you raise a brow at him.
"You really wanna know? Fine. I was thinking about how pretty you looked when you aren't screaming for a change," you bite. His grip on your notebook loosens and you realize he isn't steaming anymore. You pull your notebook away and go back to studying as you try to fight the blush on your face. You couldn't believe you really just said that. After a moment, you gain the courage to glace at him. He was being uncharacteristically silent.
He was apparently stunned. He had finally fallen back into his seat, eyes wide and filled with unfamiliar emotions. What stood out the most though, was the scarlet blossoming across his cheeks. Your eyebrows crease in concern. Did you break him? "Are you oka-"
"Shut up."
"Alright then." You clear your throat and go back to work. However, you kept finding yourself looking back at Bakugo. He had hardly moved an inch, staring blankly at his textbook. You look around helplessly. You did break him!
As you try to think of a way to fix his short-circuit, all Bakugo could think of was how you called him pretty. He had never been called pretty before. Handsome, yes. Good-looking, sure. But pretty? He had always imagined that term was specifically designated for girls; girls like you. A part of him believes he should feel insulted being called such a delicate word, but for some reason, the fact it came from you left butterflies in his stomach.
"Do you know how to-"
"I think you're pretty too," he mumbles suddenly.
You were left blinking once again. With how quiet he was combined with how quick he said it wasn't only surprising, but completely out of character. He refused to look at you, but you were able to see the red of his ears. You were slightly scared to ask for him to repeat himself, but you found curiosity beating your common sense. "What'd you say?"
"I SAID YOU'RE REALLY SHITTY!" he yells, finally looking at you. It's almost comical, you think, how angry he tries to look completely overran by how flustered he is. It was a miracle that the librarian wasn't bursting in to yell at him. You have to bite back a laugh, knowing full well it wasn't what he said. Maybe you could have fun with this.
"Oh... okay. Whatever you say, cutiepie." Bakugo nearly retches at the pet name. Who the fuck said shit like that? It was disgusting, and the worst part was that he found himself almost liking it.
"What did you just call me?"
You look up at him innocently, fighting away a smirk. "Cutiepie," you tease, "Sorry. Would you prefer something else? Like... sweetie? Or maybe pumpkin? Ooo! How about sweetcheeks?" As Bakguo flushes more and more through the list of nicknames, you find yourself unable to hide your grin.
"I'm leaving." Your eyes widen at the statement as he begins to pack up his stuff.
"Ahh! Wait, Bakugo-chan, don't leave! You still have to teach me how to do basic math!" In a flurry, you shove your supplies into your bag as well. You rush after him as he stomps away. You playfully grab his upper arm like you've seen couples do as they walk together. He grumbles but doesn't pull away. You take this as an opportunity to ramble away as many embarrassing nicknames as you possibly could. "Where are we going, babe? Are we going to go grab some dinner? I am feeling a little hungry-"
Abruptly, Bakugo rips his arm away from you. You cringe. Maybe you had taken it a little too far. Reluctantly, you admit to yourself that you should apologize before he blows you up. "I'm s-"
"If I kiss you, will you shut up?"
"What?"
Suddenly, his lips are on yours. His lips are chapped and warm from the blush on his cheeks. The kiss is a little rough, teeth clinking together for a moment, but his calloused grip on your arm is the gentlest you've ever been touched. He's closer than you'd ever thought he'd be. Your eyes are wide, and you can see how his brows furrow in concentration and embarrassment. You hardly have the chance to kiss him back before he pulls away. He doesn't let you process the kiss or relish in the moment, but rather drags you down the road. He makes sure he's a step or two ahead of you while still allowing you to keep up so you can't see his blush, but he's unaware of the deep crimson of your own.
You clear your throat, trying to shake yourself out of the flustered haze you were in. You quicken your pace so you're at his side. He seems to have calmed down a bit because he allows this, but still refuses to look at you. He maintains a focused gaze on the road ahead, a destination seemingly in mind, the opposite direction of the dorms. "Where are we going?"
He glances at you out of the corner of his eye before quickly looking away. Not that he'd ever tell you, but you were going to be the death of him. "I thought you said you were hungry?"

Karasuno Boys Singing Headcanons!
A/n: By this point I hope that everyone has seen the masterpiece that is Sugawara’s wonderful voice actor singing Under the Sea, which has won the spot in my heart for cutest thing I’ve ever heard. I then proceeded to go off the deep end of Haikyuu voice actors singing and safe to say I was in no way disappointed, so here’s some Karasuno boys singing headcanons! If you have any requests my ask box is open 💖 enjoy!
Daichi
Is it just me or would Daichi not care if someone heard him singing
He seems like the type of person who hums all the time
Partly because it helps relax him after yelling at the team all day LMAO He doesn’t necessarily sing with lyrics every chance he gets, but when he does he’s pretty casual about it
He’ll sing in the car a lot, and it was actually the first place you heard him
Boy has a soothing playlist for school days and you always like hearing his voice when he drives you in the mornings
Will hum when you’re both doing schoolwork in his or your house
Doesn’t realize he has a good voice, so he never tries to show off all that often in front of people and thus the team has not heard him full out sing yet
So when they does hear him like, actually singing for the first time at the end of practice they’re SHOOK
Tanaka and Nishinoya instantly start spamming you with texts, asking why you hid away such a precious secret for so long
You’re sitting in the library staring at your constantly vibrating phone like ??? doesn’t he sing all the time?
When you end up texting the boys this question they go absolutely feral
At this point Daichi is losing his voice yelling at the team to calm tf down
Suga is cackling in the corner of the team gym cause he been knew
It’s absolutely chaotic literally someone come save Daichi please-
Sugawara
HAHA GET READY BOYS
Official team mom of Karasuno sings all the damn time don’t even get me started
Always humming some upbeat tune doing schoolwork, cleaning up after practice, in the car, etc.
Seriously when is this sweet baby not singing
The team is well aware of this, especially the sideline cheer squad (Yamaguchi, moi ippon nice serve!)
Tell me he does not make up rhyming cheers under his breath during matches I dare you
Will literally make up a stupid song on the spot to describe whatever he is currently doing or feeling
Hinata bathroom vibes tbh but it’s even more out of the blue
“Got an A on my exam today, and things are going my way”
“Suga, for the love of everything please stop”
“Daichi thinks I’ll listen to what he’ll say, but I’m singing more anyway”
He is always on board with karaoke whenever Karasuno has team bonding nights
One time you are invited to this by Suga himself and he gets up and starts singing a Disney song haha guess which one
And as often as the team has heard him sing mans is feeling it tonight for whatever reason and y’all can tell
You have never heard anyone sing Under the Sea so passionately before but it’s a gift and you’re not complaining
Asahi
Boy is so insecure oh my gosh please give him some support
Very shy about singing in front of anyone and everyone
The only time you’ve ever heard him sing was when you were over at his house and he was taking a shower
You had gone downstairs to get a snack from the kitchen and when you come back up he’s singing alongside one of his playlists
You don’t know if it’s because of the steam and the solid acoustics in the bathroom but he doesn’t sound half bad
You try not to startle him as soon as he gets out because you know how flustered he’d get
But then a while later while y’all are studying on his bed you just casually bring it up like ‘You have a nice voice, Asahi’ and that’s all
He’s a little shocked at first that you heard him but kind of smiles and sighs in relief because you liked his singing!! 🥺
Precious teddy bear is totally happy for the rest of the week, like that’s how much your praise means to him sdlkgjfdjsof he’s too cute
Eventually warms up to humming little tunes around you
He’s really blushy when he does but you pretend not to notice for his sake lmao
It makes you so warm inside that he feels comfortable enough to let you hear him
Ennoshita
In this house we do not sleep on Ennoshita
As much as he is the mom of the second years he will flaunt his stuff whenever he gets the chance and this is one of those times
If a generic pop song is on at literally any point in time and he hears it, damn right he’s going to sing
When it comes to singing Ennoshita is hands down the most chaotic no question about it
Sometimes he’ll actually sing a verse pretty decently
And then the next line is just the embodiment of a dumpster fire and he does not care
These are the only times that Tanaka and Noya get irritated with him and not the other way around
But Ennoshita doesn’t give a shit, he’s so cheeky
Like he’ll be walking through the mall and a banger of a song like Fergalicious comes on over the speakers? You’re done for
Even if he doesn’t know the lyrics at certain points, or deadass does not know any of them at all, he’ll just power through
If there is a sports banquet complete with dancing and music and the team attends, Ennoshita is tearing up the floor and singing his heart out
Honestly you’re a little scared to interfere cause what is he even doing-
He has made quite a few friends from opposing teams with his frankly lunatic level energy
I’m looking at you Oikawa, Tendou
Tanaka
ANIME. INTROS.
He sounds EXACTLY like that opening singer from Bungou Stray Dogs I wonder why
No but actually we all heard his little song in season one, when he’s late and walking to the gym like what a king-
In summary he is a pretty good singer
Most definitely a frequent participant during team karaoke nights and everyone enjoys his little performances
When he realizes that girls actually like guys who can sing he starts using this to his advantage
And surprisingly it ended up working
You’re out at karaoke with some friends one night and you hop outside to get some more food for your group when you hear somebody slaying Rough Diamonds; your mind instantly goes to Food Wars
It catches your interest and then you realize...this dude goes to your school? You are positively whipped
He sees you from the doorway and when he realizes you’re enjoying the song he amps it up another three notches
Achievement get: girlfriend
Karaoke dates and other such outings happen often, thank you very much
As much as he enjoys singing he does not overdo it like Ennoshita, who has been limited to three songs per night every time the group goes out, please for the sake of everyone’s eardrums
Nishinoya
As Tanaka’s best friend and as the co-president of simps everywhere, Nishinoya is another common singer during karaoke nights
Having fun and maybe picking up a cute girl at the end of it all? That’s literally his life agenda
He either goes for the badass, headbanging songs that are super energetic, or he jams out to the generic and famous pop groups’ songs
There is no in between
Noya has a slightly deeper singing voice but sometimes he’ll go for the stupid high notes for fun and just...completely fails
The fact that he has never successfully hit one of those notes doesn’t deter him in the slightest though; his goal is to get there at least once before he dies
He can sing so many popular TikTok audios and you can’t decide whether to be impressed or slightly disappointed with that fact
Noya doesn’t really sing at practice just because he’s focused, but when he’s walking home or getting food from Sakanoshita afterwards he might start randomly singing something
The type of person who has like a billion different playlists on his phone for the most obscure moods (honestly same Noya)
Like there’s one named “Bad Test Grade But I Won a Free Popsicle Kind of Feeling” don’t even ask
Will put on a concert in his room and perform a whole lineup of these songs for you
Sometimes you think it’s just so he can avoid doing schoolwork but you let him get away with it occasionally
cause you’d never tell him but it’s so entertaining and kinda hot what
Tsukishima
OH GOD THIS BOY
I swear you have tried time and time again to figure out whatever the hell kind of music he listens to with those chonky headphones of his but you have never successfully completed that mission
There are only two - count em, TWO - instances where you have ever witnessed this embodiment of a salt shaker doing anything resembling singing
Number one was a literal meme TikTok where you were using Beyond the Mysterious Beyond from Land Before Time as your audio
You didn’t expect Tsukki to recognize it at all
But he’s in the top corner of your phone screen and he is deadass LIP SYNCING EVERY WORD and you’re SENT INTO ORBIT
DOES HE STUTTER? NOPE
Should have expected that Mr. Dinosaur Obsessed would have watched Land Before Time and loved the all the bops
That video is forever saved in your drafts because he’d literally end you if that went public but you refuse to completely get rid of it
Second time, our french fry child actually sings because Yamaguchi forces him to do a song with him lmao
It only lasts for about three verses but it’s all anyone has heard from him before and is therefore a blessing from above
If anyone has heard these two singing Sarishinohara on YouTube you know what I’m talking about if not look it up it’s an absolute gift
Literal perfection in a duet like?? Everyone is depressed when they realize that Tsukki’s voice had been hidden from the world until that very moment
We will cherish this short taste of Singing! Tsukki for all time amen 😔🙏
Yamaguchi
Like Asahi, this precious bean is also shy about his singing
But he will sometimes get a burst of confidence if he’s having a really good day or if someone is singing with him
When those moments arrive they are wonderful
He sounds like an angel, not even exaggerating he’s just so pure
Has a very light tone no matter how the song originally sounds and it’s really soothing to be honest
When his little bouts of confidence wear off please for the love of God praise him in any way shape or form, it makes him feel good about himself
On team bus rides to games, he and Yachi will sometimes sing fun tunes together to calm each others’ nerves and it’s incredibly precious
Tsukki will send you videos of this pregame ritual and you have a folder reserved for them in your camera roll
Everyone say thank you Tsukki
He will sing for you if you’re feeling super down about something because he knows you love it
Never fails to calm you down and cheer you up, and Yams knows in those moments that he would gladly sing for the rest of his life if it made you smile
We stan one soft, talented bean sprout
Kageyama
Another stubborn boy when it comes to singing in front of other people
He will hum on rare occasion but don’t expect much more
You start to realize that whenever he does start humming, though, it’s always the same song, so one day you ask him about it
It’s a song his grandfather used to sing to him when he was little and he uses it to calm himself down
You almost start crying on the spot because you know how much his grandpa meant to him
Kags says there were lyrics to it but he doesn’t remember them besides a few random words scattered here and there
It becomes your personal mission to find the rest of the lyrics because you’ll be damned if your precious baby goes another day without hearing them again
Finally after countless obscure Google searches you find the song
But you don’t know how to casually bring up the fact that you had spent hours obsessively looking for them into a conversation-
So one day you’re hanging out with Kageyama, but he’s been in an awful mood all week, and you decide to start singing the song that his grandpa used to but including the lyrics
And when he recognizes the words and puts the chorus together, he instantly relaxes and starts singing it with you
He is so touched and thankful that he can finally recall the song in its entirety, and now you both sing said song to each other whenever the other is feeling down
I love him so much my heart-
Hinata
When you find out he can sing you’re absolutely floored
Literally the only time in his life that Hinata can successfully speak English words and it’s in a song? And it’s coherent?? It’s a miracle
The whole team gets on his ass about sucking at English in class but being able to obliterate those lyrics when they come up in a song and the poor tangerine gets all huffy
hE’s tRyiNg HiS bESt oKaY
His range is SO GOOD THOUGH WHAT-
You’re in the middle of a store with him and he’s been occasionally singing along to the music from the speakers and at this point you’re not even surprised at how good he sounds
But then he just starts singing in falsetto
BOI- When I say your jaw is on the floor I am not playing games
The power he holds is beyond comprehension
He’s looking at you confused like did he do something wrong?
When you proceed to flip out over how great he just sounded baby gets so embarrassed how cute
Again, one of those people who just doesn’t know their gift and it makes him even more precious
I would kill to have his capabilities like imagine the talent; if that whole volleyball thing doesn’t work out there’s also the music industry sir-
In conclusion: CAN SOMEONE PLEASE GET THIS SUNSHINE A MIC THANK YOU

Book Review: THE ANIMALS IN THAT COUNTRY by Laura Jean McKay (2020)
(Full disclosure: I received a free copy of this book in exchange for an honest review through Edelweiss and Library Thing's Early Reviewers program. Content warning for violence, including that against animals. Caution: this review contains a spoiler in the form of an excerpt.)
'Well, I’ve got a secret for you, Miss Kimberly Russo.' She digs her sharp little nails into my skin. ‘What is it?’ ‘This flu means people can talk to animals.’ Her head shoots up. ‘I want the flu, Granny. Don’t you?’ ‘Grown-ups don’t wish they had diseases, and neither should you.’ ‘But don’t you?’ Outside, Wallamina and Princess Pie are nose and beak to the sliding door, trying to press their way through. Eyes shining. ‘Course I bloody do.’
I can see the wild in her. She looks and acts like any dog. Plays, wags, stares into my eyes with her baby browns; does chasey, catch, begs for biscuits. Then the dusk comes and she lifts her neck and howls the saddest song in all the world, and there’s that wild. Dingo, owl, night thing — that sound is a warning. Loneliest you’ll hear. Wraps around your face, your sleep, your dreams. She’s saying: ‘Hey, hey. There’s something coming.’ The rangers here are always telling me, don’t talk like that. They say how dingoes are just establishing territory, checking on their pack. Dingo admin. But stand on the hot road that runs from the gift shop to the enclosures, and listen to the dingo in her cage call out to the packs on the other side of the fence. Tell me that’s not special. Tell me she doesn’t know something about the world that you and me haven’t ever thought of.
Jean Bennett isn't you're typical grandma - unless you're picturing Gemma Teller Morrow, that is. Jean drinks, smokes, swears, and sleeps around, usually all at the same time, and occasionally with her gay and committed coworker, Andy. She's got a tiger tattooed on her boob, and a dingo named Sue imprinted on her heart.
A lowly guide who dreams of becoming a ranger, Jean works at an Australian wildlife park, run by her son's ex-girlfriend Angela and owned by Angela's father. Jean and her husband Graham landed there years ago, after bouncing around the world for a while. Eventually Graham left Jean to shack up with another woman; their only child, Lee, jumped ship too, but not before hooking up with - and impregnating - Angela. Now Ange mostly keeps Jean around for the free child care (and maybe also because Ange feels sorry for her).
As for Jean, she stays stuck in this weird, awkward morass for her granddaughter Kimberley - one of the few people she can tolerate, let alone love. Jean prefers animals of the nonhuman variety, and the Park's residents/captives are her found family. She has a special place in her cockles for Sue, a dingo mix who she helped rescue as a wee little pup.
Jean's precarious life is already teetering on the edge of chaos when THE FLU arrives - first in southern Australia, then at the Park's gates, thanks to none other than an infected Lee, as charming as he is irresponsible.
Zoanthropathy (from Greek: zóo, “animal”, anthroponis, “human”, pathy, “disorder”), aka zooflu, otherwise known as "the talking animal disease," allow humans to understand and communicate with other animals:
'The strain known as zoanthropathy affects cognition in humans, and it is believed that enhanced communication between humans and nonhuman animals is possible. Zoanthropathy is hosted and spread by humans. [...] The disease is very high in morbidity and very low in mortality. Infected humans appear able to communicate (encode) and translate (decode) previously unrecognisable non-verbal communications via major senses such as sight, smell, taste, touch, and sound with nonhuman animals.'
When Lee runs off with Kimberley - to commune with the whales on the southern coast - Jean embarks on a cross-country road trip to find them. Riding shotgun is Sue, whose keen nose points the way to Tomorrow (Tomorrow being Sue's conceptualization of Kimberley. Jean is Yesterday, and Lee is Never There. Scathing, yet accurate.)
As with most potentially animal-friendly tales, I was equally nervous and excited to dive into THE ANIMALS IN THAT COUNTRY. As it is, the book both thrilled and disappointed me; I almost feel like it deserves two separate ratings, one for the idea and actualization of the dystopian zooflu future - which is breathtaking - and another for the human-centered plot that propels the audience's journey into this world - which is decidedly less so.
Let's start with the zooflu. It seems like it would be awesome to be able to talk to animals, right? Think again. I mean, really turn the idea over in your head, sit with the superpower, and try to envision what this might entail. Given that most of the nonhumans we encounter on the daily are exploited, oppressed, or otherwise negatively impacted by humans -
be it the 25 million farmed animals we create, torture, and kill for food every year in the US alone; the "wildlife" (read: free-living animals) we displace, starve, and kill through habitat loss; the dogs and cats we buy, neglect, and then abandon at shelters; or the animals we unintentionally hit with our cars (or the bugs we trod on just walking down the street); etc. x infinity
- we are weapons of mass destruction. To most of our nonhuman kin (and sometimes our fellow humans, too). Instead of words of wisdom and messages of hope, we'd be more likely to hear cries of terror. Confusion. Pain and agony. Hellfire, everywhere. Created and fueled by us and our own.
Heck, I'm not even sure it would be beneficial to always know exactly what our beloved, nonhuman family members are thinking. I have a fifteen-year-old dog named Finn who's going deaf and blind and battling dementia. More often than not, I suspect that being privy to his innermost thoughts would freak me the fuck out. Not to mention break my damn heart.
And then there's the mode of communication: not just just verbal, as we're used to, but all-encompassing: "sight, smell, taste, touch, and sound." Think pheromones, sound waves, scratches and ticks. The beating of countless tiny wings, all bombarding your brain and trying to tell you something. That kind of thing, coming at you uninvited and from all directions, is apt to drive a person mad. And it does, as evidenced by zooflu sufferers who stuff their orifices with whatever's handy to block incoming stimuli - or, at the more extreme end, the pseudo-religious trepanners who invite strangers to drill holes in their skulls in a misguided attempt to relieve the pressure.
Talking to animals sounds like the stuff of dreams - but in McKay's hands, it's a nightmare.
And a pretty trippy one, at that: fittingly, the incoming messages that Jean's left to decode aren't quite what you'd call straightforward. There's a lot of translation required, and Google hasn't yet caught up:
I’m reading her body like some language I barely remember from a high school textbook. Bonjour madame, connaissez-vous le chemin de la gare? Let’s go to the station. Or, where the hell is the supermarket? I can parrot the words, but the meaning is in scraps.
Copies of this book should be sold with a sheet of acid, or maybe some edibles. I kid, but also not.
If, like me, you assumed that increased understanding and compassion would surely spring forth from this newfound ability to communicate with nonhuman animals, you'd be wrong. While some people do indeed embrace the flu, many others lash out: animal-free zones are established, and hungry citizens start hunting former pets, since they make for easy prey (apparently they've never heard of fruits and veggies?).
There's one especially excruciating scene that I don't think I'll ever be able to forget. Jean takes refuge in a makeshift church, only to catch a glimpse of how the missionaries make their sausage (stew):
A small fluffy dog has pelted out a kitchen door, thin bit of twine tangled around its legs, body blonde fire, screaming, Hello. Please. Please bite its soft. Quick. Help me. I jump up, calling the poor little bugger, but the parishioners shriek louder, climbing on their chairs like that dog is the snake from the garden of Eden. The woman rushes for her daughter and hauls her by an arm out of the room. It’s funny, for a second, until the laugh dies in my throat. The little dog, too tangled in the twine to move, slumps panting in the aisle. It’s not just m e. Where’s other me. She’s still — The god-botherers are faster than me. They grab that dog with WWF wrestling passion, using real lumps of wood, real knives. The little dog has enough time to issue a thick whiff of terror from its undercarriage, Help her, before they’ve slit it ear to ear right there in the pulpit. There was no blood with Lee. He didn’t even look that drowned. He might have come alive any moment. He might be alive right now in his grave. This little dog, though, is bleeding out on the beige carpet. The door to the kitchen is open. Matthew the soup cook leans on the jamb, then turns back. A fluffy tail on a chopping board. The steaming pots. Pain like a stab to my guts — he stirs a soup very much like the one he was serving up in the park.
Of course, this scene is so repulsive to most of us - Jean included - only because the animal being killed and consumed is designated for "companionship" instead of "food," at least in this particular culture. Chances are you've known and loved a dog or two yourself - and so the doomed beast transforms from a something to a someone. Not an unfeeling object to be used and discarded at will, but a sentient creature with her own feelings, desires, and loved ones. Had it been a chicken or pig, the result wouldn't be quite so horrifying; Jean herself eats meat, and justifies doing so, on several occasions.
Yet an earlier scene - in which Jean comes upon an abandoned tractor trailer truck packed with pigs destined for slaughter - will hopefully challenge readers to expand their circle of compassion:
I’ve seen battery hogs before — of course I have. But not out and about. Not staggering around and trying to walk, calling to whatever they think is ‘more’. Glazed eyes that strain like they’ve never seen sunlight. Skin stretched over bodies fed to the point of bursting — something between swine and meat. Saw some animal liberationists on the street in the city one time, saying factory farms were the same as Nazi camps. I called them bloody racists too. The pigs clatter past me down the ramp, fucked-up eyes on the road ahead, calling, Hello is it more. Those animal nutters were wrong, but not in the way I thought. It’s not the same as the Nazis: that was us doing to us. What’s this? [...] A hurt sow sits on her haunches, then lies down on the verge, panting unevenly under the slathering sun. Another weaves blindly over the asphalt toward her, flies spinning around her head. They push their noses into each other. Send me a postcard, the sick one says. Postcard, indeed. What the fuck. I watch more closely. The meaning bright off that tight skin. All the little bits saying, Leave me, and, I’ll hear about it, and, Don’t you see it. Move on. There’s more. The ones that can walk stretch their legs, for, More, more, more. I stand at the top of the truck ramp watching them break into a group trot toward the next paddock. Skin rippling. Hooves carolling. Know that heart-in-your-mouth run. Know exactly what ‘more’ is. I’ve seen it in Lee and I’ve had it too, at times. These pigs are half dead, they’re stumbling around, blind, mad, and fucking hopeful.
Even if many of the characters in this book resist the humanity clearly evident in nonhuman animals, I hope that readers will hold these passages close - especially at the dinner table.
Sue, our main nonhuman protagonist, is a fascinating character; like many of the semi-domesticated animals in the park, McKay paints her as a series of conflicting impulses: safety or freedom. Hunger or satiation. Dingoes or humans. She is fiercely loyal, much to her own detriment. She has wants and needs of her own, and she's often satisfied to set them aside for the good of her (adopted) pack.
And I guess that brings me to the second half of this review: the humans, most of whom are awful. Jean, exponentially so.
Initially I thought that Jean would be my people: she's a hard-drinking, mold-breaking badass broad who gets on better with animals than people. She has a mini-rescue in her backyard where she keeps some of the park's doomed relinquishments. (The public treats the park like a rehab facility when in fact it's in the business of entertainment - old, sick, injured, and "common" animals are routinely killed.) She and Kimberley spend their afternoons together designing the animal rescue they hope to build one day.
But Jean is kind of a terrible person. To call her a misanthrope is half the story: she's also senselessly mean and cruel, especially when drunk, hungover, or frustrated (in other words, 90% of the time). I don't fault Jean for her substance abuse problem - alcoholism is a mental health issue and should be treated as such - but nor is it an excuse for being such an asshole. (There's even a scene where she trolls people discussing the zooflu online, like a fucking American redhat.) She's shit to everyone around her, except for Kimberley and Lee (Lee, who could use a good ass-kicking).
And then there's Sue: Sue, who followed Jean across the damn country when she should have been settling into a dingo pack of her own. Sue, who found Kimberley and saved Jean's life. Sue, who is nothing but good and true and trustworthy. Sue, who Jean assaults on multiple occasions: kicking her in the ribs, binding her with rope to prevent her escape, and even trying to shoot her (with a gun that's thankfully empty of bullets). At one point, she "forgives" Sue for saving her life - as if Sue's the one who needs forgiveness!
Despite the abuse, Sue continues to stick by Jean's side, which galled me endlessly. Towards the end of the story, following the attempted murder, Sue gets revenge of a sort, dominating a delirious Jean and forcing her subservience. However, the book ends shortly thereafter, cutting any sense of satisfaction far too short.
I really felt cheated with Jean: I thought she might be my avatar in this world - but she's just another terrible human who doesn't deserve the company of animals.
Likewise, the whole subplot involving Kimberley's parentage is way over the top dramatic and unnecessary; it seemed like we were being plucked from a dystopia and dropped into a soap opera for a minute there. Just, gross. So yeah, there are definitely some aspects of the book that I appreciated more than others. THE ANIMALS IN THAT COUNTRY may be imperfect - but I'd still wholeheartedly recommend it to anyone looking to explore our relationship to nonhuman animals in a dystopian setting.

Heart of the Lycan Chapter 1
Becoming friends with the wolf boy
Autumn was slowly rolling around the corner, the leaves changing from summer green to their beautiful red, orange, and yellows. A silver car Drove through the backwoods into the forest of the happily quiet town Autumn Valley known for its festivals during the fall season of having bountiful cider and spooky Halloween fun,
Olydia was happy to be coming back home. It’s been six years since she left to be in college and work on her artistic and literary talents to hopefully better herself. Her family sold their old home for a smaller place but luckily there was still the family cabin she could live in now since her parents were kind enough to let her have it.
She was always grateful how supportive and kind her parents are to her. Driving up the stony alley way she had to pick up some house appliances such as toiletries and some food,
Picking up as many bags as she could to save herself the double trips to go back to her car, stacking the many groceries onto the porch before she unlocked her door. Walking inside the cabin felt warm and homey, the rustic decorations that her mother had always made her smile, remembering when she used to go with her at a little store called “The Gift Shop” where there were all sorts of lovely handmade painted novelty gifts. Such as the wooden cut out of a snow man and the adorable painted squiggly smile to give it it’s charm.
Another memory was the candles, there was always a candle that helped give a home it’s final touch of welcoming. She walks over to her kitchen counter and pulls a box of matches out, trimming the long wick of her favorite candle “Autumn breeze” she lights it carefully and discards the used match in the trash.
Now she was ready to put stuff away, it was the little things that make the big steps of making a home feel like home. “This is nice.” she thought to herself, feeling the atmosphere becoming relaxing and calm. She puts her groceries away, dating the meats and cheeses she got from the store. It was always good to do that so she could save herself the worry of smelling or seeing the produce expire.
Once that was done she rubs her eyes and looks over to the boxes of her stuff she still had to go through, mostly clothes and other miscellaneous items. But she didn’t have a problem unpacking her art supplies and books into the spare room where she would make that into her art studio, With just enough lighting through the window it would be the perfect spot to unleash her creativity and writing. Not to forget also a nice spot to read some of her favorite books.
Olydia sighs at herself, “Why am I like this? Why do I always wait to unpack my clothes and other stuff but my art stuff and books first?” she spoke out loud. Of course whenever she needed a break from unpacking she could go to her art room to let out some steam. Shrugging with a smirk “Heh, guess that’s what motivates me first.”
Going over to open one of the knick knacks filled boxes, as she opens the cardboard flaps there’s a picture that stares at her face to face that made her pause.
A photo of her during the time of her high school years, in the library with a young man that had wild hair tamed with a ponytail and dark circles under his eyes, Grinning happily next to her as they were reading a novel together. A classmate of her’s took that picture thinking it would be a nice memory to have.
“Lycus,” she spoke softly as she smiled at the memories they had together, he was always kind and gentle. At least with her, he didn’t trust anyone else that much.
The reason was of course he was raised by wolves.
Olydia remembered him telling her that, When he was a somewhat young child he lost his family venturing deep in the woods until a large white wolf came in and took him as one of her own. Growing up and surviving until people found him again and brought him back to civilization, he had a rough time trying to get back to things. Being so used to acting like a wolf, he had to relearn things again from the ground up.
Remembering the first time she met him was at the library, She would always go there when she had a chance to. Looking through books she notices him sitting by himself at one of the tables, he appears to be disheveled even a bit nervous looking around. His long wild hair covered most of his face and had dark circles under his pale blue eyes, scratching at his stubble that was growing out.
People talked rumors about him and they were harsh ones about how he would bite at people if you even came near him, or how he’s more of a wolf than man. She hated that, disgust how this poor guy went through so much and now people either tease or were too scared to even go near him.
At that moment she made a choice that changed her life forever. Walking over she stands next to him “Hello,” she spoke softly. He jerks back in a panic growling at her baring his teeth, raising her hand defensively “I’m sorry! I didn’t mean to scare you like that.” she spoke worriedly.
She felt her heart become sore as he hugged himself looking down becoming guilty when he did that, “I-I just wanted to ask if you would like me to sit here and keep you company.” reaching her hand out to touch his shoulder gently. The moment her hand touched him made his whole body shiver, he let out a whimper.
“Hey hey sweetie it’s okay, I’m not gonna hurt you.” she spoke in a nurturing tone stroking her thumb on his shoulder. She tries to think of something that would help him calm down, suddenly an idea pops in her head “Say, How about I read to you. Would you be okay with that?” she asks in a nurturing tone.
The young man turns looking at her, perplexed on what she meant by that. “Do you like stories? I can read them to you if you want.” showing him a book she had that was about fairy tales.
“C’mon, I can ask the librarian if she can let us in the little spare room so it’ll be more quiet and I can read to you without disturbing others.” offering her hand to him but pauses a moment “If that’s what you would like of course.” she spoke bashfully.
A sliver of guilt creeping up at the back of her mind, feeling like she was forcing him to do this, however she could feel his larger hand holding onto hers firmly yet carefully. Slowly nodding and gets out of the chair, her eyes widen to how tall he was compared to her.
“Okay, let's go ask Mrs. Sanford.” carefully pulling him with her, after persuading the librarian to let them use the room they go inside and it was the perfect silence for reading. When they sat across each other she held up the book with her other stuff sitting next to her. “Now lets see, which story should we start with…” she spoke scanning at the index.
“Lycus.” she heard a voice speak to her, Olydia paused and looked up at him “Pardon me?” she spoke curiously. He hesitates a moment looking around the room, finally gaining enough courage he looks at her and speaks again “M-My name is Lycus.” he spoke out slowly. It was obvious to see he was struggling to say the words he wanted but tried his hardest to do well at it.
A smile creased onto her face “I’m Olydia.” she replies cheerfully. “Thank you so much for telling me your name Lycus.”. He looked at her, waiting for a harsh comment but it never came. “How about I read this one to you, beauty and the beast it’s quite a nice story…” she spoke flipping to the page, but he noticed something, a notebook that he saw upside down “My story notebook” written in sharpie on the plastic cover.
As she was about to read he placed his hand on top of the page to keep her from doing so “Hmm? Do you not want me to read to you?” she asks with a little frown. Lycus shakes his head quickly and points at the notebook.
Olydia sees it also and blushes “Oh, heh that's just uh...my own stuff I wrote and some doodles in there too.” she picks it up “There’s not much in it really just some short stories.” looking back up to him he was now looking at her with his head tilted slightly.
She loved to write and draw, but she was always nervous to show her work to others.
“It’s just a bunch of stuff of fiction, like fantasy and horror. I like writing about-” she cuts herself off, Lycus leans closer now curious “Please don’t laugh at me when I tell you this okay.” she spoke nervously.
Lycus was silent so that probably meant yes, Olydia nodded “I enjoy writing about werewolves and lycans, they’re just so much fun and amazing to work with. I like writing them as good guys and heroes in the story, not like the mindless killing machines other authors write them as. Though who am I to judge?” she sighs with a shrug.
Then she waited for him to say something like “You’re into that weird stuff?” or worse, but when she looked at him she could have sworn his eyes sparkled and a grin on his face. “Do you like werewolves and Lycans too?” she asks with a smile, Lycus immediately nods and points at the notebook “Please?” he asks.
Olydia blinks “You mean you want me to read my own stuff to you?” feeling her face get warm. Lycus nods again. “Are you sure? I mean some of this is still in the works-” she then saw he was giving her the puppy eyes and lets out a soft tiny whimper, her heart betrayed her at how adorable he looked and gave in “Okay, Okay I’ll read some of it to you.” opening up to the first page she began to read.
Fighting through her bashfulness she read to Lycus, telling him story after story of her own works, one being about a knight that fought alongside with a lycan that became detectives.
As she was reading, lycus gave her his full attention, listening closely with a smile on his face, it was as if he was a completely different person now.
when she was almost finished the bell rings and the two looked out the door's window, it was their last period and so it was time to leave “Guess it’s time to go home now.” Olydia spoke a little disappointed.
When she looked at Lycus however her heart dropped at the devastation on his face, “Hey Lycus.” reaching her hand out to hold his securely. “We can do this again tomorrow, I’ll get more of my stories and I’ll read them to you. Would you like that?” Olydia asks, at that second Lycus looked at her relief washed over him “Really?” he asks innocently.
Olydia smiles warmly at him “Of course,” she replies standing up from the table, “In fact, I can even ask my parents if you would like to come over and we can do some more reading together and other stuff too.” she spoke out. Lycus thought about that, he was hesitant about it “But only if you're okay with that, I want you to know you're safe with me.” she spoke sweetly to him.
Lycus paused and shifted his gaze at her, getting up from the table he walked over to Olydia, towering over her as she had to take a little step back to see his face. “F-Friends?” he asks nervously.
Olydia makes a wide grin and in a fit of excitement wraps his arms around him “Of course we’re friends Lycus!” she spoke out excitedly rubbing the side of her head to his chest. She felt Lycus' body shudder letting out a small gasp, his arms slowly raising up as she heard his heart beating quickly.
His arms wrap around her, hugging Olydia so firmly to his body that it almost looked like he was afraid to let go.
“M-Mate?” he whispers nervously to her, Oh? Mates, like best buddy mates she thought. Looking up and giving him a warm smile “Yeah, we're gonna be best mates you and I.” she spoke cheerfully.
The librarian saw their little hugging moment and she informed them about the no touch policy at school. Lycus pulls away from her and Olydia chuckles “It’s okay big guy.” she spoke “I’ll see you tomorrow Lycus.” she spoke, waving at him as she started walking away to get her stuff to walk home.
Lycus slowly waved back with a crooked smile on his face.
After that, the rest was history. They became an inseparable team and stuck with each other through thick and thin. Confiding in with each other and becoming close friends.
Back to now, she held the picture frame up and placed it on top of the fireplace. Olydia hoped that she would see him again if he didn’t move away of course, she missed him so much during the time she was gone. “I hope he’s happy and doing well now.” she spoke to herself now going back to unpacking some more stuff.

Sception’s Switch Port Wish List:
Dragon Age, first game only. Fun game, even on console. Best of the series easily - the second game’s rushed dev time forced so many cut corners that there’s hardly a game left over, and the third game is so bloated with tedium that every time I try to play it my eyes glass over and I slip into a boredom coma before I can get a quarter of the way into it. But the first game? Way better on PC with mods and keyboard/mouse controls, but even so I’d jump at the chance to play it again on switch. Chances of it happening? Low. EA doesn’t want to remind people of when Bioware made good games, and they aren’t interested in releasing anything on the switch that isn’t an exploitative microtransaction store.
Mass Effect Trilogy: First game was good, second game was better, and, yeah, ok, the series didn’t finish on the best foot, the third game suffering from tone problems and a final ending that just flat out sucked, but Mass Effect 3 has a several key moments that stand out as among the best in the overall series, and while the ending is kind of bad, at least the series *has* an ending - something Dragon Age fans will probably never get to see. Chances of it happening? Again, low, for the same reason as Dragon Age.
Arkham Asylum. Just Asylum, not the rest. City’s not bad, but the loss of focus costs the experience more than the larger world and better boss encounters can win back, imo. The rest of the series, though? Bleh. Chance of it happening? I don’t know. Bunch of Warner Bros games on switch, of varying port quality. Asylum was developed by Rocksteady, not sure if that would introduce rights issues. Better chance of this than of most other games on this list.
FF6. Sure, Square has ported over PS and PS2 titles, but what about earlier ones? FF6 is the best game in the series, imo. Sure, it’s way too easy, like most JRPGs are, but the engaging story with a huge ensemble cast of likable characters is amazing. I’ve never seen a game with so many playable characters where I liked all of them this much, and the couple of multi-party dungeons reward you for spending time building up all of them. You also don’t frequently see this kind of story heavy jrpg game with a real ensemble cast, with no obvious ‘main character’, letting the player engage with whichever characters they like rather than forcing you into the shoes of a Chrono or a Cloud or some other default Hero, characters who are sometimes good but rarely the most interesting or engaging member of their respective games’ playable casts. So yeah, FF6 is great, but good portable versions aren’t easy to come by. The GBA version is amazing, but good luck getting your hands on it. The mobile port is trash. Phone emulators have to deal with awkward phone controls. A switch port - whether of the original snes version, or the PS1 port with additional pre-rendered video bits, or the GBA version with it’s not-terrible extra postgame dungeon and bosses, would be great. Chance of it happening? Frankly, I’m confused why it hasn’t happened already. Square has ported a bunch of old final fantasy games to switch, I have no idea why they cut those games off at the PS1 era. I would say the chances should be good that FF6 will come to switch, but it’s such an obvious port that the fact that it hasn’t happened already implies to me that there’s maybe some behind the scenes bullshit ruling it out. And if it does come over, it might be a port of the ios version, which would be terrible.
FFTactics. I will buy this on any platform it’s released on. But if we could get a port of the PSP version, with post game multiplayer dungeons intact? Maybe with online multiplayer support - the turn based nature of the game letting it bypass some of the lousiness of switch online? Please. Chance of it happening? Again, I’m confused why it hasn’t happened already. FF7, 8, and 9 are ported over, but not Tactics? As with FF6, it seems like an obvious and very likely port, except that it’s so obvious and so likely that the fact it hasn’t happened already maybe implies that there’s something specifically preventing it from happening. At least if they do port the ios version it wouldn’t be a tragedy here, though I would still lament the lack of the post game content from the PSP version.
Fallout 3 / New Vegas. Really Loved 3, and loved New Vegas too, though I never did get around to finishing it. Would love to see these games on the switch, provided Bethesda didn’t use the opportunity to stuff them full of microtransactions. New Vegas, despite bugs and some cut corners, remains probably the best 3d fallout game, and 3, despite the not-undeserved hate it gets for its main story, is still probably the most fun I’ve had just randomly exploring a world in a bethesda game. Chance of it happening? You’d think the chances would be ok, Bethesda’s had a bunch of games ported to switch - Skyrim, Doom, Wolvenstein, etc. That said, Fallout 3′s reputation among the Fallout fan community has plummeted in the last few years so Bethesda might not think a port would be worthwhile. And as they’re still trying to push 76, I can’t imagine their eager to remind people that their Fallout games weren’t always the hottest of garbage. So... better odds here than of Mass Effect or Dragon Age, but I’m not holding my breath. As for New Vegas, I doubt Bethesda has any interest in reminding people that the best Fallout game to be released since they picked up the license was developed by someone else.
Morrowind - Still probably the greatest Bethesda game, though I understand it was already showing the trend towards streamlining and loss of depth coming off of Daggerfall that would eventually lead us to the likes of 76 and Blades. But yeah, another classic I never got around to beating, that it would probably take a switch port to get me to try again. Chance of it happening? Some but not great, largely for similar reasons to Fallout 3. Skyrim sold quite well on Switch, IIRC, so you’d think other Elder Scrolls ports would have been a natural choice, but years later and nothing but Blades means it probably isn’t going to happen.
Mother Series, especially Earthbound - which like tactics I’ll buy and replay on any platform it’s released on - and Mother 3, which seems fantastic, but the only time I’ve tried it I didn’t make it very far due to the SNES emulator I had at the time ruining the rhythm based combat minigame. So yeah, an official port would be great. Chance of it happening? Actually good for once, for the first time on this list. As with FF6/Tactics I’m kind of surprised that it hasn’t happened already, but Nintendo being Nintendo I’m more inclined to blame that on them either just not getting around to it yet or trying to hold off on a cult classic to use it to spike excitement in a dull release window later down the line.
Demon’s Souls - Great game. Sadly my play through was killed by a hacking incident, but yeah, a classic, laid down the souls game fundamentals while pulling of some aspects better than any of the games that followed it. And a remake has officially been announced for release on PS5, would be a great opportunity to release a port of the original to the Switch market... Chance of it happening? Unfortunately, Sony owns the rights, so I just don’t see it happening... not unless Sony really plans to abandon the mobile market and instead push interaction with switch. They did include that “would you be interested in PS4 remote play on other devices - including Switch” question in a survey a while back. Still doesn’t strike me as likely, though.
Dark Souls 2 - like Fallout 3, Dark Souls 2 has become the black sheep of its series in fandom eyes. Not entirely without reason, but there’s some interesting and novel design choices that get overlooked and unappreciated as a result. I’ve never made time to play it myself, despite it sitting in my Steam library never downloaded, but would absolutely play it on the switch. Chance of it happening? Without the fan crowd clamoring for a re-release, an updated port seems unlikely.

Daddy Kink - Kimblee
Kimblee x Reader
Part two.
_______________________________________________________________
(Y/n) sprawled on the hotel room couch, one leg hooked over the back of it. She was dressed in what she called her laze-a-bout clothes, quite comfortable as she read her book. The job she and her partner were sent to do was in the works, but a delay in the train schedule and a difference of opinion put them back a day. They decided to stay in a hotel until the next train, which wasn’t to be there until ten o’clock the next morning. Her partner went to the local library to hunt up some facts on their disagreement, and she stayed at the hotel to relax.
She barely glanced up as the hotel room door opened, then closed again. She had a feeling that Kimblee wasn’t pleased at the moment.
"Find what you were looking for?" She asked lightly, lazily turning the page to her book. A sigh met her ears and she smirked a little. Har har.
"I was right, wasn't I?"
"....yes," her companion muttered, pulling off his white coat and hat, and hanging them on the hooks by the door. "How you, of all people, know about molecular alchemy is beyond me."
"I read a lot, Kimblee,” she replied.
The dark-haired alchemist snorted a little as he shrugged off his suit jacket and vest, hanging them over the back of a chair. (Y/n) merely turned the page of her book again.
"You read about molecular alchemy."
"I read topics that interest me."
"And that interested you?"
"Most sciences do, though I am more partial towards astronomy and psychology," she hummed.
"Psychology?"
"Mmhmm. I have an interest in how the human mind works--specifically the mind of the mentally ill and killers," she said. Kimblee looked at her sharply, pausing in loosening his tie. That was news to him—and he’d known her for quite some time now.
"That so?"
"Mmhmm."
"... you're a strange girl."
(Y/n) grinned a little and turned the page of her book. She’ll take that as a compliment. "You like it and you know it."
Kimblee hummed good-naturedly and removed his tie, folding it and setting it on the table. As he unbuttoned his shirt, he took a moment to look the girl over. She was a tall girl, attractive in a unique way. She was a little plump, but in a good way--she curved in the right spots.
Aaannndd that outfit did little to stop one's imagination. Her tank top was loose and dipped low, her breasts nearly obscenely exposed and her shorts really should have qualified for underwear. Quite the change from her regular clothing. He didn't even think she owned such lewd clothing, being as insistent about covering up as she was.
He smirked a little and turned away, grabbing a change of clothing and heading to the shower. (Y/n) heard the water running and she finally glanced up from her book. He hadn't closed the bathroom door all the way, so steam was starting to roll out.
Mmm...what an image. Kimblee bathing.
....
Dammit, why does she do this to herself? She winced a little and pressed her thighs together. Ugh. Ever since she met the cocky prick, she wanted to get him in her bed. Just to have him fuck her senseless. It had been a long time since she got laid, and the last guy didn't satisfy her at all.
It was starting to show.
(Y/n) groaned a little and shut her book--there went her concentration. Damned hormones. She tossed the book onto one of the end tables by the couch and pushed to her feet. She briefly thought about peeking through that crack, but decided she liked her body being in one piece better. (Y/n) meandered to the only bed in the hotel room and flopped across the foot of it, staring absently at the ceiling.
She couldn't even get herself off with Kimblee there. Too risky. Double damn. She was so lost in her mental griping, she missed the shower turning off and Kimblee walking out a few minutes later in just a pair of loose pants and a tank top. His dark hair was brushed back and loose from its usual ponytail. He raised a brow at her position on the bed and frowning face, noting she had a glazed look. She was thinking then. Scary thought.
He grinned when he tapped her foot and nearly made her jump out of her skin. "Mind rolling to one side or the other?"
"I am on one side. The bottom half."
"That's nice to know, but I meant left or right, doll."
As (Y/n) rolled towards the left half of the bed, she wondered if he meant that to be a double entendre or not.
"Get tired of your book?"
"Mm. Got caught up in thought."
"That's terrifying," he teased, sitting down on his half of the bed. She shot him a look. "What has you thinking?"
(Y/n) paused for a minute. She was normally quite blunt about her thoughts and didn't shy from risqué topics. But this was kind of the guy she had feelings for and letting him know she wanted to screw his brains out was taking a huge chance. Best be vague.
"...stuff."
Kimblee just gave her a look. Well….vague didn’t work.
"Ugh, fine. I was thinking about the last time I got laid,” she admitted with a grumble.
Kimblee stared for a long moment, processing what she just said. His brows were drawn a little as he blinked at her. The longer he stared, the more she turned red and grew uncomfortable. Damn her honesty. Then he slowly smirked and snickered a little.
"My,my. Never thought of you as a lascivious woman."
"You have no idea," she mumbled.
"...so how long has it been?" He asked, still smirking. (Y/n) did a quick calculation in her head, ignoring the mischievous narrowing of his eyes.
"Mm...about two years. He wasn't very satisfying either."
"That's a shame. Was he your first?"
"Unfortunately. He got bored with me after we were dating for four months and dumped me for some slut from Central," she sneered at the ceiling.
"Hm...so you've never had good sex?"
"No. Okay sex, sure. But good sex? I wish. He was so vanilla about it too!" She whined a little. "I wanted to experiment, and he wanted to stick with the usual. It got so damn boring!"
Kimblee chuckled a little, curious now. "What kind of things did you want to experiment with?"
"Well... maybe not experiment as try out my kinks."
"Do tell."
"Well.... I kinda have a thing for biting...and hair pulling...and choking, a little. But mostly I have a--" she broke off and blushed deeper. This was getting into some pretty intimate shit.
"Have a...?" he prompted.
"....a daddy kink."
Kimblee stared for a moment, quite surprised by that admission. That was...kind of hot, actually. Damn. "So...do you like being called pet?" He asked slowly. "Or do you prefer baby girl?"
(Y/n) 's face flamed red and she avoided looking at him, clearing her throat. Kimblee's grin grew and he turned to lean down a little towards her, his narrow eyes glinting wickedly. Her blush grew deeper.
"Well?" He purred.
"Uh...uhm...I tend to prefer baby girl, to be honest..." She mumbled. Kimblee chuckled under his breath, barely discernable; and the next thing she knew, he was kneeling over her, his hands on either side of her head. (Y/n) stared up into his intense blue eyes with her own wide ones.
"That so? Do you like to be dominated?" He asked.
"…I do think it's rather hot, yes."
"Hm. Well then..." He dipped down until his mouth was right by her ear. "We'll just have to do something about your frustration and lack of satisfaction then.... won't we, baby girl?" He purred in her ear. If it was possible, (Y/n) would have creamed her shorts right then. As it was, her breath caught, and her body shuddered. She felt moist between her thighs. Oh god, oh god, ohmygod. She had to be dreaming.
"What do you say?" He crooned. She swallowed thickly, trying to wet her dry mouth.
"I'm game."
He chuckled softly, his hot breath on her neck. "What's the magic words, doll?"
"....please, Daddy?"
Kimblee didn't think it possible for him to get such a rush just from two simple words, but fuck if that didn't have his loins tightening and his blood boiling.
"Safe word is red."
And then he was kissing her, his lips rough and demanding. (Y/n) made a soft noise in the back of her throat, kissing him back eagerly. He shifted his weight to his knees, freeing his hands to trail along her body. Her curves flowed under his hands, and he slipped his fingers under her tank top. "Mm....such soft skin..." He murmured, nipping at her lips.
(Y/n) whined and arched a little, her hands reaching up to grip his tank top tightly. Kimblee smirked and nipped again, as his hands pushed up her top, cupping her full breasts. His thumbs flicked over the hard nipples, making her squirm underneath him.
"Why don't you strip for me, hm?"
He pulled back suddenly, leaving her feeling rather cold. She whined a little, sitting up as he stood at the foot of the bed. He raised his brows at her. "Well?"
(Y/n) relented and reached down, grabbing the bottom of her top and pulling it up and off her. He grinned when he saw no bra and leered, "No bra? Naughty girl."
(Y/n) giggled a little as she leaned back and lifted her hips to shimmy out of her shorts, hesitating on her panties. She glanced at Kimblee, who had a hungry look in his eyes now.
"Panties too, doll."
She slid them down and tossed them with other clothes, sitting up again. Kimblee grinned and reached out, grabbing her ankles and yanking her down towards him, making her squeak. He stood between her knees, releasing her ankles in favor for dragging his fingers along her thighs.
"Now be a good girl, and Daddy might let you cum," he purred, kneeling down and pressing his lips against her inner thigh. "Keep your hips still. Got that?"
"Yes."
"Yes, what?"
"Yes, Daddy."
"Good girl."
His head dived down and (Y/n) gasped when she felt a hot tongue drag along her slit. Holy fuck, it was hard keeping still. She whimpered and fisted the sheets until her knuckles turned white, her toes curling in pleasure. It was very hard to keep an unconscious reaction from happening, and the exertion needed to keep still had her panting. Kimblee's tongue swirled and lapped at her, curling as it teased her entrance.
He nipped at her clit and nearly made her buck. Her hips twitched, and she whined in frustration, pulling a dark chuckle from the alchemist. "You're doing so good, baby girl," he purred to her, nibbling again at that sensitive pearl. "Does it feel good?"
"Y-Yes!" She gasped, head thrown back against the mattress. "So good!"
"You want more?"
"P-Please....please, Daddy, give me more..." (Y/n) moaned. Kimblee hummed in approval and slid a long finger inside her dripping cunt.
"You're so tight, doll! But, oh so wet. I bet I could slide right into you," he murmured, sucking hard on her clit. She trembled in response.
"A-Ah! Fuck! Kimblee~!" (Y/n) cried out at the intense sensation. He chuckled roughly against her, the vibrations from the noise making her moan. "I-I can't--fuck! I can't--"
"Can't keep still anymore? You already so close?" He teased as he slid a second finger inside her, curling the tips up to rub along her walls. (Y/n) nearly jumped out of her skin when his fingertips brushed against a highly sensitive spot. "Ah, there it is. You moved, doll."
"S-sorry, Daddy. I didn't mean to," she whined.
"I'll let it slide this time." He rubbed that spot again and she mewled his name. What a beautiful sound. Almost as lovely as his explosions. "Should I let you cum? Hm?"
"Oh, please! Please!"
"Please...what?"
"Please, let me cum! Please, Daddy!" (Y/n) cried out when Kimblee focused his fingers' ministrations against her g-spot and sucked hard on her clit again. "Fffuuuck!! Shit!"
Her back arched as she climaxed, a string of curses leaving her lips. Kimblee eased her through it, rubbing his fingers lightly against her clit, watching her with burning blue eyes. He was going to have her. He was going to take her, claim her as his.
(Y/n) opened her eyes, panting from her high, as she looked down at Kimblee when she felt his fingers pull away. She felt the familiar buzz of arousal return when she saw him pulling off his tank top, admiring the lean muscle revealed. He noticed her gaze and smirked, pushing his sleep pants down.
"Like what you see, doll?"
"Yes, indeed," she purred, eyes roving over the bared skin, her cunt aching a little at the sight of his hard length. "Can I touch, Daddy?"
Kimblee grinned wickedly and palmed her thighs, rubbing his thumbs against the edge of her sensitive core, making her shiver. "Maybe later. Daddy's wanting some satisfaction."
"Can I satisfy you, Daddy?"
"Oh, I most certainly hope so, doll," he said and tightened his grip on her thighs. (Y/n) gasped and arched off the bed as his dick pushed inside.
"Ah! Zolf!!"
"Ooh, I like how my name sounds on your tongue," he groaned, sheathing himself completely inside her, hips tapping against hers. (Y/n) gave a needful whimper and looked at him with a pleading expression. “God, you look so damn delicious….looking at me like that….makes me wanna fuck you senseless…”
“Please do~” she crooned and Kimblee laughed, shifting his grip on her thighs. That was her only warning before he started to thrust hard and fast into her. (Y/n) gasped and rocked her hips, trying to keep in time with his. She let out a moan when he leaned over and lightly bit between her breasts, turning his head just a little to drag his tongue along the flesh of one.
Her sensitivity from her previous orgasm was making it a quicker build up to her next one, and his relentless rutting was only making the feelings more intense. Just before she reached the cusp of her orgasm, though, he pulled out suddenly. (Y/n) opened her mouth to protest, only to give an unattractive squawk as she was flipped over onto her stomach, her rear in the air as her toes barely touched the floor.
A shriek left her throat when Kimblee gave her ass cheek a slap, before grabbing it and squeezing. “You’ve got a nice ass, doll,” he rasped. “It’ll be nice watching it bounce on my cock.”
(Y/n) cried out when Kimblee shoved himself back into her again, reaching deeper than before with the new position. She fisted the sheets tightly, back bowing in pleasure. “Zolf! Zolf, ohmygod!”
“You like that, baby girl?” Kimblee purred, slapping her other ass cheek and pulling a moan from her. “I love this position. You can reach so fucking deep. You like that? You like it when Daddy’s cock fucks you like this?”
(Y/n) mewled in reply, pushing her hips back into his. He wasn’t satisfied with that reply and tangled his fingers in her hair, pulling back until her chest was off the bed. Her arms shook with effort in keeping herself up to avoid losing her hair.
“I asked you a question, doll,” Kimblee growled, yanking a little on her hair at the same time that he slammed into her g-spot.
“Fuck!! Yes, Daddy, yes!” (Y/n) yelped.
“Yes, Daddy, what?!”
“Yes, I like it when you fuck me like this! I love it!” (Y/n) practically screamed when he focused his thrusts on her g-spot, homing in on it like he had the position memorized.
“God dammit, I love it when you say such dirty shit,” he groaned.
“Zolf! Zolf, I’m gonna cum! P-Please! Let me cum!” she pleaded, her voice going hoarse.
“Cum for me, baby girl. Cum hard,” he ordered, and almost on cue, her walls clenched tight around him and she saw white. She didn’t even realize she had exclaimed in both surprise and pleasure from how intense her orgasm was. Kimblee cursed vehemently and dug his nails into her scalp and hip as he quickly followed, filling her with his cum.
And then she was left panting and boneless on the bed, almost too tired to move. Kimblee caught his breath and pulled out of her with a soft grunt, before he scooped her up and tossed her higher up on the bed. (Y/n) giggled breathlessly and rolled onto her back as he climbed onto the bed, flopping down beside her.
“…so,” Kimblee drawled out. “Was that to your satisfaction?”
(Y/n) laughed, practically glowing from how pleased she was. “Very much so. We should do this again, just to make sure though.”
He chuckled roughly and rolled onto his side, pulling her against him to spoon. “I quite agree. I’m interested in experimenting a little more.”
“Sounds exciting. Can’t wait to play some more, Daddy.”

This weekend marks the official launch of the highly anticipated DC Universe digital steaming service, and earlier this week they decided to run their beta version for those who have already pre-ordered the service. The beta is limited, so those of us who have it haven’t gotten the chance to see everything, but it did give us a great look at what to expect from the full version.
There are so many great reasons to sign up for this service, and below I list the TOP 10 Reasons to Subscribe to DC Universe. So sit back and enjoy the ride into the wonderful world of all things DC.
10. EXCLUSIVE MERCHANDISE
Not only will you get all sorts of great content to watch and read (as you’ll see below), there’s also a new DC Universe Shop within the app where fans can purchase some awesome merchandise, like t-shirts, statues, mugs, phone cases, and more, with some items being exclusively sold through the app. One of these exclusives is a new line of animated-style Justice League action figures, to complement the popular 6-inch Batman: The Animated Series figures the company has been making lately.
The first wave includes the full initial team line-up – Superman, Batman, Wonder Woman, The Flash, Green Lantern John Stewart, Hawkgirl, and Martian Manhunter – plus Aquaman, who was not a member of the team before they became Justice League Unlimited, but who did appear in several memorable episodes during the first two Justice League seasons.
9. DC COMMUNITY
In the all new DC Community section, fans can join other fans on a plethora of message boards covering all kinds of topics like comics, movies, TV, news, and more. There’s even a section called “Creators Corner” where fans can connect with DC talent.
DC Community shows trending discussions, popular tags, and even gives you the chance to create your own thread covering any topic that’s rattling around in your brain. Do you want to talk about the best Robin? You can make a thread about it. Do you want to discuss your love of the short-lived Birds of Prey TV series? Go ahead! The sky’s the limit!
And DC has vowed to work hard on moderating these boards in order to make it the best possible experience for fans everywhere!
8. ENCYCLOPEDIA
This comprehensive encyclopedia breaks down your favorite characters (like Batman and Superman), as well as some you may have never heard of (like Chaselon and Ferro Lad), with great detail, giving an introduction and history to the character, their origin, powers, essential storylines, team affiliations, and appearances in other media. Some characters are more thorough than others, but this encyclopedia will be always growing and expanding, so if there’s some info you think is missing, you’ll be able to submit it to be added.
There’s also a tab labeled “Related Content” that brings up movies and TV shows, comics, and even trending discussions about that character within the app. This is a great part of DC Universe as it will help to educate DC fans, new and returning, on the characters that live within it.
7. LIVE-ACTION FILMS
As someone who loves films (I even run my own film review site), the fact that the DC Universe app will include live-action films is something I was very happy to hear. Now, from what we’ve been told, there doesn’t seem to be very many live-action films available, at least not yet. We’ll have access to Superman 1-4, Batman (1989), Batman Returns, Batman Forever, Batman & Robin, Batman Begins, and The Dark Knight.
Now, this is a great, albeit small, selection of films, but I’m really hoping they will put more than just Batman and Superman movies up here. Let’s get films like V for Vendetta, Watchmen, A History of Violence, The Losers, Road to Perdition, RED, RED 2, Swamp Thing, Constantine, etc. This would truly add some great value to the film library. And who knows, maybe they already have plans to add some of these. That would definitely push this farther up on my list.
6. ANIMATED FILMS
The catalogue of animated films based on DC properties is huge, with dozens of quality entries, from the 30+ DCUA (DC Universe Animated Original) films, to films like Subzero and Mystery of the Batwoman, and even the LEGO DC Super Hero films.
The DC Universe app will offer a large array of them, including some of my favorites like Justice League: War, Batman: Under The Red Hood, and even Batman: Mask of the Phantasm. But what shocked me the most was that their newest animated film, The Death of Superman, is actually available to watch on the app, even though it’s only been out for less than two months. And with a 3-4 films release schedule every year just for the DCUA films, this library will continue to grow.
5. DC DAILY
Within the “News” tab is a section for the upcoming daily news show, DC Daily. They recently did a live-stream (of which the video is available to watch on the app) breaking down what you can expect from DC Universe, while also introducing DC Daily and the hosts who will be bringing all the news to the fans. The live stream was hosted by Kevin Smith.
There will be several great and knowledgeable hosts including Tiffany Smith (DC All Access), John Barrowman (Arrow, Doctor Who), Samm Levine (Freaks & Geeks, Inglourious Basterds), Harley Quinn Smith (Yoga Hosers), Sam Humphries (DC Comics Writer – Green Lanterns), Hector Navarro (DC All Access), Clarke Wolfe (Collider Movie Talk, Film HQ), Brian Tong, Markeia McCarty (DC Movie News), and John Kourounis.
DC Daily cast (L to R): Samm Levine, Sam Humphries, Tiffany Smith, John Barrowman (in front), Harley Quinn Smith, Clarke Wolfe, Brian Tong, John Kourounis, Hector Navarro
DC Daily will be replacing DC All Access and will offer news related to the original series on DC Universe and other content that “ties back” to DC Comics and the DC Universe community. The program is scheduled to have the following segments: “Headlines”, for daily news briefs; “Reports”, for an in-depth interview or look at an upcoming book, film, or television series; and “Talk”, for panel discussions.
4. LIVE-ACTION TV SERIES
DC has some of the best live-action comic book TV shows out there, and a lot of them will be available to watch right through the app. We’ll get to see such shows as Wonder Woman, The Flash (1990), Birds of Prey, Lois & Clark: The New Adventures of Superman, and even more obscure titles like Human Target.
This would be a spot or two higher on the list if the current DC shows were included, like Arrow, The Flash, Supergirl, Gotham, and all of the others. Hopefully, they’ll eventually make their way to the app once their contracts with the other streaming services expire.
3. ANIMATED TV SERIES
I’ve got four words for you: BATMAN. THE. ANIMATED. SERIES!!!!
When it was announced that the greatest comic book TV series of all time was heading to DC Universe, I was ecstatic. And to make it even better, it’ll be released in fully remastered HD, and I have to say, it looks fantastic!
And if that’s not enough for you, we’ll also be getting a plethora of other great animated shows from the world of DC including Batman Beyond, Justice League, Justice League Unlimited, Batman: Brave and the Bold, Superman: The Animated Series, Static Shock, Teen Titans, Young Justice, and even the old Max Fleischer cartoons from the 1940’s. This is an amazing line up that will keep people busy binging for quite a while.
2. LARGE SELECTION OF COMICS
Unlike other streaming services, DC Universe will also offer a reading component through a large curated selection of some of DC’s best comics. You’ll get to read classic stories like Action Comics #1, Detective Comics #27, and The Dark Knight Returns, as well as getting the chance to check out some more obscure stuff like Doom Patrol and New Gods.
And the built-in comic book reader is fantastic, particularly the panel-by-panel option, which allows you to become fully immersed in what you’re reading, bringing these comics to life.
1. BRAND NEW EXCLUSIVE CONTENT
For me, the biggest reason I chose to commit to this service wasn’t the past DC content, but instead all the future content that’s on the way. There’s only so much previous content, so the fact that they’re developing several new projects exclusive to DC Universe will keep me coming back for more.
Right now, there are four live-action shows and two animated shows in production, with many more to come. I’m also hoping they will dive into original films for the app as well. The shows announced so far are Titans (which will premiere at NYCC, and then hits the streaming service on October 12th, with new episodes each Friday), Doom Patrol, Swamp Thing, Stargirl, the Harley Quinn animated series, and the one many have been waiting for… Young Justice season 3 (titled Young Justice: Outsiders).
Titans follows young heroes from across the DC Universe as they come of age and find belonging. This gritty take on the classic Titans franchise finds Dick Grayson and a special young girl possessed by a strange darkness named Rachel Roth as they get embroiled in a conspiracy. They’re joined by Starfire and Beast Boy to become a surrogate family and team.
Doom Patrol is a reimagining of one of DC’s strangest group of outcasts: Robotman, Negative Man, Elasti-Woman and Crazy Jane. Led by the mysterious Dr. Niles Caulder they’re called into action by none other than the ultimate hero for the digital age, Cyborg. These rejects band together on a mission that will take them to the weirdest and most unexpected corners of the DC universe.
Swamp Thing is a scary love story following Abby Arcane as she investigates what seems to be a deadly swamp-born virus in a small town in Louisiana but soon discovers that the swamp holds mystical and terrifying secrets.
Stargirl follows High School sophomore Courtney Whitmore who inspires an unlikely group of young heroes to stop the villains of the past. This new DC Universe series reimagines Stargirl and the very first superhero team, the Justice Society of America, in a fun, exciting and unpredictable series.
Harley Quinn tracks the lovable, raucous villain with a fractured psyche after she breaks up with The Joker and tries to make it on her own to become Gotham’s main queen-pin.
Young Justice: Outsiders features the return of the fan favorite animated series with a huge cast of DC’s most iconic young superheroes – plus brand-new characters, many of whom are just discovering their unique meta-powers and special abilities. Set against the backdrop of a rich, deep world that touches all corners of the DC universe, the season focuses on meta–trafficking, and an intergalactic arms race for control of these super–powered youths.
And there you have it folks, the Top 10 Reasons To Subscribe To DC Universe. If you haven’t already done so, be sure sign up and enjoy all of this wonderful content at your fingertips. BTS scenario: Taehyung x You (Maor), Part 1 - He Is Sick & You Take Care Of Him (with a twist) ...
Note: This is a personal request and quite a fluffy piece, as well. 😁
A few days ago a lovely young blogger, @its-metafroyical, inquired if I do personal requests, as well. Never having done anything like it before, I gladly accepted the challenge and am quite glad I did.
Rarely have I been this inspired and the following scenario is amongst the longest I have written so far, even consisting of several parts / chapters. But, please, bear with me and read them all! It would make me very happy because I really feel like this is one of my best, most profound fluff pieces so far.
Also, I haven’t done many scenarios with Taehyung so far, so this proved to be a great opportunity for me to ‘get to know him’ a little better. I did a lot of research on his personality and stuff and discovered so many more and endearing sides to him. Also, the girl who requested this was so nice and sweet and I really had fun trying to put myself in their place / possible story and write up something nice for her. 😊
Also, I mostly wrote rather angsty scenarios so far and really enjoy doing them. However, since @its-metafroyical requested something fluffy, this one gave me a chance to delve further into the fluff genre and discover that it ain’t that bad. I just hope that I’m not bad at it, either. 😁
So, here we go! I hope y’all (especially you, Maor), enjoy it!
**************************************************
Scenario
Taehyung is sick in bed and home alone and you, his long-term girlfriend, Maor, decide to stop by and comfort him ... The situation takes quite an unexpected, pleasant turn, though ...
FLUFF
2.655 words
This is Part 1 of a story consisting of 2 chapters. The second part you will find here, or on my Masterlist.
**************************************************
A/N: Dear Maor, I hope you enjoy this and my ‘little’ scenario doesn't disappoint you! 😌 I found your personality very inspiring and could really imagine you and Tae as a couple. I ship you! 😉 Anyway, I changed your age a little, meaning the story is still set in the present, 2017/2018, but I made you about 3 years older so it would add up. You’re about 20 / 21 in it now, still younger than Tae, though, and are in your second year of university in Seoul. I really hope you don’t mind 🙏🏻🙃
**************************************************
PART 1
It’s a Monday night just like any other. For you at least, as long as exam season is in full swing. Still seated in the reading room of your university’s library, long after ten at night, you are buried in your books on electrical engineering, studying for your next important written test in Digital Systems, completely having lost all sense of time, when you feel your phone buzz beside you on the desk. After hastily finishing the last sentence you take your eyes off of the text you’ve been analyzing, a sigh of annoyance at the unwelcome disturbance escaping your lips as you instead focus on the message popping up on your phone’s display. The text is from Taehyung. Immediately, your upcoming exam is of secondary importance, you, after hours and hours of intense studying, having only now been reminded of the fact that your boyfriend is sick at home. Alone. And you know what that can do to him … Tae makes no secret of the fact that he’s not amongst the people who handle isolation and loneliness all too well. Quickly, you open the message and reply ...
You try and focus on your studies again, however your concentration doesn't last long, your thoughts repeatedly wandering off and back to poor Tae, home alone ... After a while, your resolve finally breaks and you grab your phone again.
Immediately, you pack up your things and set out for Tae’s dorm. On your way there, you stop by your favorite takeout restaurant and pick up a steaming bowl of Japchae with some beef bone stew and lean beef stripes, some of Tae’s favorites. You ask the owner to add some extra ginger to the soup, not too much though, just enough not to make it too spicy but to yet have a healing effect on Taehyung’s sore throat. All the while grinning to yourself, picturing the boxy smile spread across his beautiful face as he greets you in the doorway. To you, there’s nothing more precious than to give Tae the strength he needs and to take care of him, something you’re quite good at, having grown up with four younger siblings. You’d always known, or at least hoped, some day that experience would come in handy …
As soon as he sees you standing before him, you can watch Taehyung’s face brighten, his eyes instantly gleaming with new life and his unusually pale cheeks slightly blushing, turning a light, rosy pink which makes him appear almost healthy. However, you can clearly make out in how far sickness and solitude have taken a toll on him … „Yah, Maor-ah, you have no idea how happy I am to see you!“, Taehyung exclaims in his full baritone voice, leaning down to pull you into a tight hug, his face buried in the long, brown waves falling down your back. „Have you been home alone all day?“, you ask cautiously, following him inside the empty dorm and towards the kitchen. Tae merely nods, hesitantly looking back over his shoulder, his face staying concealed behind a curtain of his soft, caramel colored hair as if he intends to hide his expression from you. Not a good sign. Suddenly, he reaches back now, taking your hand into his, intertwining your fingers, an enigmatic smile stretching his curved lips, not reaching his eyes this time. „How are you doing, Tae? In general, I mean?“, you continue to inquire, setting down the food in the kitchen, having trouble getting out bowls and cutlery since he doesn’t seem willing to let go of your hand. „Oh, you know“, he shrugs. „My head and eyes are still a little achy, but the cough is almost gone. My throat is better already, too. Management really just wanted me to rest a couple more days to be sure I’m in top shape again before I go back to my usual routine and don’t unnecessarily strain my health, making it worse. They’re a little more careful ever since that incident in Kobe two years back. You remember?“ A shiver runs down your spine caused by the mere mention of that day, leading you to relive the most horrible hours of your life so far, even if it’s just for a brief few seconds. To remember Jimin calling you, his voice shaky, telling you how Yoongi and Tae had been taken to a hospital in Japan because he’d almost fainted on stage while practicing. Even though it ruined out he had ‘merely’ overworked himself while eating too little, the few hours waiting for the results of his examination had been hell on earth for you. Taehyung notices your hand shaking at the mere reference to that horrible day, immediately tightening his grip on it. „It’s alright, Maor. I’m sorry I brought that day up. I know it was hell for you. But this time it’s really just a head cold and I’m almost back to my usual self again. Especially now that you’re around.“ He gives you a reassuring smile, followed by a kiss on the cheek and a long, intimate back hug, pressing his body against yours, his chin resting on your head, his warmth and scent enveloping you. Slowly, he starts swaying the both of you back and forth in the middle of the kitchen. Your eyes close almost automatically and you lean back into Taehyung’s chest, feeling him breathe against your back, his heartbeat against yours, simply enjoying the security and comfort only his embrace can give you. After a few minutes, though, you decide to break the hug and turn around in Taehyung’s arms to face him, getting up on your tip toes so you’re on eye level, your arms around his neck now. „And you’re really okay, Tae?“, you ask, expression serious, brows furrowed in genuine worry which he surely must recognize. However, he just looks you deep in the eye, a cryptical grin on his lips. „Mentally and emotionally I mean?“, you continue. „Now that you’re not alone anymore? I know you can’t stand being by yourself all day long. You start thinking too much, too deep, too dark, and you sounded kind of … down before. You really should've texted me earlier, Tae, or even called. I could’ve studied here just as well, you know, to keep you company!?“ He pouts, pursing his well formed lips, the fuller, upper one entirely disappearing. A sight so adorable and endearing you can barely keep yourself from kissing him, only able to do so by reminding yourself of the ‚kissing ban‘ Tae had imposed the second he noticed the first signs of a cold on him, not wanting to infect you. „I didn’t wanna keep you from your work, Maor-ah. I know how important that exam is to you. You wouldn't have been able to concentrate around here, feeling obligated to take care of me. I couldn’t stand the thought of burdening you. I am a grown man after all, I can be by myself for a few hours.“ „Tae, you don’t actually believe that, do you?“ He questioningly raises a sharp eyebrow at you. „That you could ever be a burden to me?“ You can see something dark glaze over his deep brown eyes. „Honestly, I don’t know, Maor“, he finally admits, avoiding your gaze. „Sometimes it feels like that to me. With you always having to go by my demanding schedules and all …“ „Oh, Tae. I knew it would be like that when we got together. Sure, it’s not exactly ideal. But I thought we agreed that this, the two of us, is the real thing? That all these hardships and effort pay off in the long run? And even just five minutes together like this are still worth weeks of scheduling if necessary, at least to me. Isn't it the same for you?“ „Of course, it is!“, Taehyung energetically assures you without even letting you finish your last question, eyes wide and alight with sudden fervor. „Maor, you know how much I enjoy every single second with you. And how much I want to spend the rest of my life with you.“ Taehyung locks his gaze with yours, taking your hands into his again, stepping back to keep you at arm’s length, a radiant, boxy smile stretching across his beautiful features, his deep, dark eyes gleaming. „Hold on! Wait a second, Maor!“, he abruptly calls out, his voice overflowing with urgency and excitement. „I have something for you! Stay right here and don’t move an inch!“ „Alright, alright!“, you gasp, unable to hold back a laugh at the sight of Tae jumping up and down in place like a hyperactive five-year-old, fingers still interlaced with yours. He nods at you one last time once he has calmed himself down a little, his stare intense, nonverbally imploring you to be obedient, before he finally lets go of your hands and turns around to leave you in the kitchen, running upstairs to his room, his step lively. Barely a minute later he returns, slightly out of breath, face flushed, glowing. „Give me your hand, Maor“, Taehyung demands next, his tone soft yet strangely tense. You do as he asked and extend your arm, clueless as to what his intentions might be, trying to hide your tension behind a shy smile. He encircles your wrist with the long, delicate fingers of his one free hand, the other one hidden behind his back. „And now close your eyes, Maor. Trust me.“ „I do, Tae“, you reply truthfully and without hesitation, once more doing as you’re told, anticipation building up in your chest, leading your racing heart to pound heavily against your rib cage. You flinch involuntarily as you feel something cold against the sensitive skin of your wrist, but Tae doesn’t let go of your arm. Until he’s done. „You can open them again“, he softly whispers into the heavy quiet having descended upon the kitchen. Your lids flutter open and after shortly meeting Tae’s expectant eyes, you look down at your wrist where a brand new piece of shiny, silvery jewelry sparkles, catching the glow of the warm ceiling light. It’s a filigree bracelet, consisting of a thin plaque which has both your initials, T & M, engraved in it, on either side transitioning into a delicate chain. „It’s beautiful!“, you exclaim, your voice choked. Teary eyed you look up to find Taehyung’s gaze again, his expression showing a wide range of affection and contentment. „I’m really glad you like it, Maor-ah. I’ve got one, too.“ He holds up his arm to show you. His bracelet looks almost exactly the same, just slightly bigger, chunkier, more fitting for his masculine stature. „They’re matching, you know. Couple’s bracelets.“ You can’t withhold a little giggle. „I figured, Tae. And I love them.“ „Do you have any idea what they’re made of, Maor? The plates?“, Tae asks, his visage beaming with anticipation. „Silver?“, you guess, shrugging your shoulders cluelessly. Tae shakes his head, hair flying, impatiently biting his lower lip. „Do you remember those titanium plates that were used to stabilize your broken elbow two years back? When they took them out, the doctor asked if you wanted to keep them and you thought it was grosse.“ Your eyes widening in suspicion, you nod. „Well, I decided to take them anyway. As kind of a memento, since that accident was what initially brought us together. And I knew the instant I caught you in my arms that day that I would never want to let you go again. You, Maor, are my first love and these tiny pieces of metal symbolize the instant I realized that. I had our bracelets custom made from those very plates.“ He pauses, his eyes never once leaving yours. „Do you still consider them grosse?“ „No“, you whisper voicelessly, a first tear finding its way across your burning cheek. „Good“, Taehyung responds, chuckling softly, using one of his thumbs to brush away your tear, his touch and deep, full voice sending warm shivers down your back. „And I meant what I said, Maor. I don't want to ever let you go again. I wish you would stay by my side till the very end, for us to grow old and gray together and share countless adventures along the way. To be silly together until the day we die.“
“Yah, Kim Taehyung, was that just a proposal!?”, you joke, not expecting a serious response. However, to your surprise, Taehyung solemnly nods. One hand wandering to your mouth, you take a deep breath, holding it in unintentionally. „See these bracelets as a promise, Maor. A promise I intend to keep, however long it may take. I am a man of my word.“ Paralyzed, breathless, you simply stare up at him. With your mind blank and frantically trying to generate a reply, you are forced to watch a shadow of doubt slowly creeping across Taehyung’s fair features. „What is it, Maor?“, he inquires, insecurity now glazing his words. „Was this too much? Too sudden? Too early? I know, this wasn’t exactly the perfect moment. Timing has never been my strong suite. I originally intended to give the bracelet to you on the day of our next anniversary, but —“ Gently, you put a finger to his soft mouth, successfully silencing him. „Don’t worry, Tae, this was perfect. Everything about it. And I’ll gladly take you up on that promise any time.“ Smiling in relief and boundless gratitude, Taehyung leans down, brushing your forehead with his lips, the sensation lingering even long after they’ve left your skin. „I love you, Maor-ah, more than anything, and I always will. I’m sure of it.“ „I know, Taehyung. I love you, too.“ Now, you can’t restrain yourself any longer, stretching up to place a soft kiss on his lips which he lovingly reciprocates, only to suddenly pull back, wide-eyed in horror. „No, Maor, the germs! You can’t afford to get sick right before your exams!“ „I won’t, don’t worry“, you dismiss his concerns. „And even if I do catch your cold, it still wouldn’t regret it. I don’t regret a single thing leading up to this moment and our future together. Not even breaking my damn elbow back then.“ You can feel Taehyung’s chest vibrate against yours as he softly laughs into your hair, his arms around your shoulders and his chin resting on your head. „Alright, Maor-ah, let’s go and eat now“, he sighs after a while, reluctantly disengaging from the hug. „Would be a pity to let the delicious food you brought get completely cold.“ Humming in agreement, you take the hand Tae has invitingly extended towards you, grab the food and follow him to the living room where a classic cartoon is running on mute, hectic figures silently racing across the wide flat-screen TV. While you head back to the kitchen to get the bowls and set the table, Tae puts on the anime you both agreed on, the two of you comfortably settling on the sofa side by side. The well-known intro of The Girl Who Leapt Through Time playing in the background, you dive into the delicious Japchae. „Wow, this is so good, Maor-ah! It’s from that place we love, right?“ You nod, smiling, mouth stuffed with delicious noodles and tender meat. „You’re too good to me, you know that, right?“ Tae gives you a quick peck on the cheek before focusing on his beloved anime again. After having finished your meal, the two of you cuddle up on the couch, sharing a blanket, buried in pillows, your heads resting against each other. Now and then Tae makes goofy jokes that lead you to break out into giggle fits, or you comment the plot. However, little by little your voices grow softer, your speech gradually slurring, your remarks becoming more and more infrequent, until both of you fall completely silent and sleep finally gets the better of you. When the other members arrive home later that night they find you and Taehyung fast asleep, leaning against each other, the hands on which you wear your bracelets still tightly interlocked. „They look like they’re meant for each other, right?“, Hoseok notes, a touched smile brightening his tired features as the group quietly sneaks past the sofa, careful not to wake you. „Yes, they really do …“, Jimin whispers in response, eyes glistening in the dark as he turns off the television, leaving you and Taehyung to sleep side by side in peace and quiet ....

Here’s a one-part diary, one-part itinerary, one-part aspirational documentation of what I did this past year as best I can explain it and we’ll see how well we go as we go with it. This wrapup is at least in part to look at what I did, but also to try and get a handle on my own feeling of yawning lack of accomplishment. If you didn’t do a lot this year and you get overwhelmed by lists, please don’t read this because it might make you upset. On the other hand if you want a wrapup of the kind of things I do and try to do… well, hey, checkit out.
Writing
I got back into writing daily in July, and did so consistantly throughout the year. Part of what let me get onto that schedule better was the use of a Bullet Journal, a tool I found very handy for tracking my progress as I blogged and recorded my mental health and wellbeing. A material object is very satisfying to handle, so I recommend it to anyone struggling with frantic feelings of impermanence.
Of the things I wrote, it seems the things people were most interested in were the articles on Jace, and my Amerimanga covers, with a late-year run-in for Perry’s Lock story.
Study!
I finished my honours thesis, and did well enough to get an almost-but-not-quite top rating mark. The research was considered interesting enough to serve as the basis of my PhD, which I then applied for, and my application was approved. This was a really harrowing experience – I thought writing and applying would take a few weeks at most, but it took almost two full months of work.
My Honours thesis is listed under my government name so I’m reluctant to share it as is, but the basic gist was to try and tackle the idea that when critically engaging with games, play is a paratext, rather than text. That is, there is no true textual analysis that can be done of play without recognising the input of the player, but, you can examine the play the player brings if you recognise what the player means to the reading. This wound up forming the basis of my Making Fun videos.
Reading!
I don’t read enough, I tell myself, so I did my best to read more. When I found myself reading, I made sure to share it and indulge in it, which helped me focus on reading more. Interestingly when you share reading you’re necessarily framing it, which means you’re sort of explaining it, a thing that made approaching some books a lot easier. I’d wind up at the end of a book realising I’d explained it and understood it, without noticing that’s what I was doing.
The Grasshopper: Life, Games and Utopia, by Bernard Suits
Alien Phenomenology: What It’s Like To Be A Thing, by Ian Bogost
Paratexts: Threshold of Interpretation, by Gerard Geanette
Game Play: Paratextuality in Contemporary Board Games, by Paul Booth
Understanding Media, by Marshall McLuahn (SUPER dense)
I also read some manga and comics, and some of those I’d recommend are:
Sense Art Online
Lumberjanes
Irredeemable
Top 10
I also reread Nation, by Terry Pratchett, which isn’t at all interesting because this is merely one of my favourite books and just one of the best things he ever wrote. Also, one final note to Blades in the Dark, a game book I really liked and makes me very excited.
Robots!
I made a bunch of twitter robots, which are basically an automated way of playing with text. They seem like they’d be harder than they are – and you’d be surprised once you get past a certain threshold how well they do things you forgot you told them they could do, or never realised. You can look at all of them here.
Media!
This year I made a protracted point, as well, to actually watch some TV! That may sound like a really minor thing, but TV these days is such a vast thing that there is some cool stuff there. What’s more, TV you can’t interact with and you can’t be expected to get wrong – which can make it good for relaxation and trying to diminish anxiety. I know I watched all of the first two seasons of American Horror Story back to back while in the grip of The Worries, and you would think that would be distressing but it was kind of the opposite.
This also broadened my palate and gave me more ideas for stories. As a nearly non-stop Youtube watcher as well, I’m already in the market for short, informative videomaking, which I also got into, so longer-form, higher-production stuff – even stuff like just Bob Ross was good to watch.
I also took this chance to catch up on some TV series and movies that are part of ‘the zeitgeist’ that for some reason or another I never really watched. I tried watching more anime, too, which is like TV but you can’t multitask during it, unless you watch it dubbed. And on that note, I watched Fullmetal Alchemist Brotherhood, dubbed, and didn’t hate it. In fact, my thesis and FMA Brotherhood, as well as the work of Sideways, is what convinced me to try making Youtube videos on the subjects that interest me.
What I’m saying is I have a FMA Brotherhood video in me, but we’ll see how I go with this new editing software. Anyway.
Shirts!
I made at least 36 different t-shirt designs this year – holy nerts, that’s a lot more than I expected. My original goal was something like 1 shirt design per month – and thanks to the practice doing graphic design, I wound up making three a month.
In case you were curious, yes, these don’t really sell.
Playing Games!
I did a lot of work on my backlog of games. At the last accounting, I have 559 games in my Steam Library, and of them I have marked 229 as Completed. Note that to me, a game is completed when I’m done with it – I don’t need to slog through a game that bored me in the first hour.
Making Games!
And here we have an absolute bumper. Partly because my thesis required a lot of game design and partly because I cannot resist the joy of merely making, I spent a lot of time this year creating card and board games, including our first proper release of a board game.
I planned to make a game a month for 2017, based on 2016, and that arc follows here, but.
January – D-73C7, a hidden movement game on cards
February – Chin Music, a memory game of punching
March – Pie Crimes, the prisoner’s dilemma, with cake
April – Dragon’s Favour, a voting game of hidden roles
May – Queer Coding, a cooperative communication game
June – Fabricators, an economy game of 3d printing futuristic factories
July – You Can’t Win, an impossible trick taking game
August – Cafe Romantica, a handsome boys builder game
September – Good Cop, Bear Cop, a hidden identity accuse-em-up
October – Sector 86, a space station builder
November – Escape Code, a bluffing conversation game
December – C-QNS, a pattern matching number game
In addition to this, there were some extra games we released, Push Pins, Nobeard’s Treasure, Skulk, Camp Osum (Alpha) and Yes Chef. In my thesis I had to complete preliminary design for two more games, Mystery Machine and The Coins Of Tarim, and I did prospective work for Kinksame and pushed through stage one of The Comissioner’s Game. I also put out a prototype concept for a VHS-style wrestling game. So far none of these games have proven to be world-beaters, but I’m happy with all of them, in no small part because I love the process of making them. There are stories about each one, stories about how they improved or changed and that may wind up going up over on the main Invincible Ink website.
I also collaborated more and made more games solo. I made D-73C7 entirely on my own (and incidentally, that number is 881,607, in decimal), and continued this with some of our games – Fabricators and You Can’t Win, for example, were entirely solo projects. Yet at the same time, this year featured Skulk, which has art by Alex Zandra, Sector 86 uses some of our first paid stock art, and Cafe Romantica is a game whose entire visual aesthetic is made by Fox.
In addition to this, games that were complete in 2017, but not released include LFG (releasing Cancon 2018), Black Jack’s Dungeon, Bag O Pipes, Domains of Meh, and Winston’s Archive. There were also revisions and second editions for Crowdfund This, Murder Most Fowl and Chin Music. As I write this, in another window, I have a document open for what I’m hoping might be yet another complete game, which I’m super excited to get my hands on.
Anything Else?
I attended six conventions this year – Cancon, Comic-Gong, SMASH, MOAB, GaymerX and LFG, with varying degrees of success. Cancon was an absolute corker, as was Comic-Gong, with GaymerX surprising us with their interest in our ares, and MOAB and LFG a bit more low-key. Still, contact was made with vendors and FLGS, so here’s hoping going forwards there will be more.
I tweeted a lot, and had a handful of tweets go viral, including a new Most Viral tweet of mine, about Vincent Price. This year that was less annoying – the new twitter feature ‘mute this conversation’ does its job.
Emotionality!
This year featured a few big changes for me. One of them is that I spent some time this year making the conscious decision to minimise my interaction with people who actively make me feel bad, and to instead focus my emotional energy on improving the lives of people I really care about. Something in my family life has come up that I simply cannot deprioritise – it’s too important – and that means that I’ve had to ask myself if the emotional distress of a stranger is really my business, even if I do want to live in a world where people will randomly be kind to you. I acknowledged that there are some people, even queer people, who are just jerks, and I don’t need to spend my time listening to and ceding to them, because they are not immune to basic social consequences. I still take the hit when I can, as my privilege armours me pretty well.
I’ve taken to offering random instances of kindness to people, as best I can, to simply tell people hey, here’s a reminder the world doesn’t suck so bad, and being okay when they drop it.
I admitted to some of my trauma. I opened up and shared with some people about my stress. I watched as my parents recognised that their best intentions have had problems in both my life and my sister’s life and started to learn how to forgive them. And I started to face things about myself that make me miserable and sad and feel inadequate, and start to try and develop a framework for them.
Here’s the big thing: A member of my family is getting divorced. It is not a nice divorce. There are kids involved. Abuse is involved. This sucks. This straight up sucks on toast. There is no cutesy way around it.
What’s next?
Tune in tomorrow.
The 2017 Self-Examination Roundup Here's a one-part diary, one-part itinerary, one-part aspirational documentation of what I did this past year as best I can explain it and we'll see how well we go as we go with it.

Today has been really nice. I wish I had gotten more sleep but its been a really nice day. And I’m done the last episode of this season of American horror story and I’m very pleased with how everything has tied up. Honestly probably my favorite season because It was actually a happy ending and I didn’t feel like it drug on and I was yelling alot but in a good way. It was great. Now I want to read all the wiki entries and articles about it because I loved it and I don’t know how to love things without knowing all the things. Today was fun. But you know. Kind of bittersweet. And i was pretty bummed about jobs and stuff. I felt okay when I got up. Had a big breakfast. Biked to work. My backtire is in desperate need of air but i made it safely anyway. I worked on setting up pedestals for the kids art and getting things ready for the day. Jonathan came and helped me get more stands since I had a small cart. The kids were very talkative today but still really good. They are a good group of kids. We started the day with drawing and painting and trying to get everything up and ready for their show. We went out for snack and it was to hot in the sun and to cold in the shade. But still a beautiful day. I felt real cute. The kids were fun. It was nice. When we went back inside we were painting and finishing stuff up. The kids asked me to draw different things for them. The other TAs came and it was real good to see Katherine not sick anymore. While they all worked with the kids I went in the hallway and hung up everyone’s work. Did it all by myself. And they were pretty straight for eye balling it. It looked really good, the kids work was really wonderful. Jonathan had us go outside for lunch early which I didn’t understand but it’s fine. He needed the break maybe. It was nicer out by then and it was fun watching the kids play. They asked me to give them fun facts because I’m full of them. And I told them they had to give me a topic. They chose plants and I told them about this study I had read about plants having feelings. They seemed to get a kick out of it. I took my break after that. Went to the free shelf and found some cool stuff, including a bunch of shelf stable pudding. Awesome. Free snacks. I laid upstairs and played on my phone for a bit. I was looking forward to going home cause my hair felt gross. Which makes me feel gross. But there was still much to be done. The show went great. All the work looked great. We had snacks and I talked to parents and got hugs from kids. I cleaned up and organized the room and got things a little nicer for next week. We helped everyone take their work down and waved everyone off. I took some stuff to the continuing ed office and then to the library to get a huge stack of fashion books for Anne. The girl at the desk laughed at me and said it looked like I had quite the project going. Thankfully I didn’t have to carry anything. Could pick the books up on Monday. I biked home and was thrilled to be there. I got my market research check from a survey I took online. Got $10. I paid a bill and got myself a snack. I put in my hair dye and put in my show. I mostly watched my show and cuddled with Sweetp and looked at jobs. I had found a few so I spent like an hour applying. But I found one that is basically my dream job. But they want a paper resume and cover letter. So I wrote all that out and I’m going to go and print and mail it tomorrow. Its a STEAM program education supervisor job at a science museum. It’s exactly what I want. But I hope that they consider me. I would do so well at it. Just need to be given the chance. I washed the dye out of my hair and took a bath and did a face mask while I watched my show. And now I’m talking to Jess about Halloween. I’m looking forward to a chill weekend. And I hope you all have a good night and a better weekend. Sleep well everyone

The ask box is opened, best day ever 😭😭❤️ Could I request another matchup, but for Death Note, Criminal Minds, and Sherlock (sorry if that's a lot ahhh). Okay, so, an ENFP with blonde hair (occasionally dyed crazy colors), green eyes, short and chubby! I love acting and have been in several plays and musicals, I’m a social butterfly overall. I love to write more than anything else. I love doing makeup and because of that I’m usually described as very creative and very vibrant. Most people ½
label me as mature and “wise beyond my years.” I would say I’m very observant of people but more emotional than anything. On the flip side of things, I’m kind of insecure and suffer from severe anxiety. I rather suffer internally than pressure other people with it, but I’m always eager to help other people with their problems. I can be a little blunt and sarcastic at times, and lose my temper every once and awhile. I have morbid curiosity and scary stories are my cup of tea. Comic books and 2/3
“true crime” stories is my favorite! A huuuuuge history nerd. End result in life is to become a writer and history teacher! I also have a preference for boys! Hope this works! Thank you so much, you’re so talented! Ahhhh! :)
Thank you, lovely!! Hope you like your ships. Sorry that I asked you for your preference - I just realised that you told me in the request. Oopsie!
John Watson
- John would go to see you whenever you perform. He could be halfway through a case with Sherlock and he’d drag the detective to go see you, too. He’d appreciate and admire your creativity and would never want to see that flame dim.
- Your maturity and wisdom would come in handy when you’re dating John. You’d get a chance to exercise and put to use your observational skills; you’ll know you’re getting there when Sherlock smiles at something you say.
- As a doctor, John knows the signs of anxiety well and would be able to recognise when you’re at your limit. At this time, he’d take you home if you’re out together or he’d come over to your place and make you a cup of tea that somehow is just the right temperature for you to drink. He’d have blankets and your favourite feel-good films waiting, as well as open arms and listening ears.
- Your bluntness and sarcasm would be nothing unusual and John may even banter with you, allowing the both of you to blow off some harmless steam. True crime stories? He has a library full of them; on his blog, loose files hanging around his flat… Hell, in a good mood, Sherlock may indulge you with his most interesting cases!
Aaron Hotchner
- When he’s not working a case or being stuck at the office filling in endless amounts of paperwork, Hotch may go with Jack to see one of your performances and then take you out for dinner afterwards, or he may read one of your pieces if you let him and give it concrit/praise depending on what type of feedback you want. He’d tell you to hold onto your creativity and to never let anyone take it from you.
- Your maturity and wisdom is just what Hotch looks for in an s/o. When he gets back from a particularly rough case, he’ll need you. Your arms to hold him, your words to sooth and calm him… Hotch has tough skin, but sometimes he cracks and he needs you to fill those in. As far as your observation skills go, when you’re out and about he’d ask if you want to practice those skills. Then, he’d point out a random person and ask you to profile them based on what you see. He’ll add to your profile and will say when you’re going on a tangent. It’s like a couple activity for the two of you when he’s still Hotch and not Aaron.
- I think Hotch would have the same idea in mind as John does when you’ve got anxiety, as well as using his experiences to figure out how best to comfort you. You also internalise your feelings, like Hotch, and I think he’d try to get you to open up to him, to trust him as he trusts you. But he wouldn’t force the issue; say no, and he’ll never mention it again.
- Hotch’s sense of humour is quite dry so you’d get on quite well in the comedy department. Your bluntness would also be appreciated, Hotch doesn’t like to beat about the bush with stuff. Just say it, get it over and done with. You like true crime? My lovely, he’s the leader of the best BAU team - you know he’s got some crackers for you. He might not want to go into all the gory details though, for confidentiality issues or if he scares you, but he’ll still indulge you from time to time. If you’re watching a true crime documentary, then he may add snippets of information not mentioned, or correct pieces that the media got wrong.
Light Yagami
- Light would make it a point to go to every. Single. Performance. Even rehearsals. He’d ask to read what you write and would openly praise you to your friends, his friends, both families… he’s so proud of you! There’s likely an ulterior motive to all this, likely to win your trust/to gauge your reaction to such positive reinforcement, but you wouldn’t be aware of this.
- You’d be a very mature couple, as both of you are older than your years. You’d be like the paragon of a healthy relationship (ironic, considering his secret identity as Kira.) and people would likely look up to the both of you. As far as observation skills go, he’s also rather observant and the two of you wouldn’t be able to hide anything from each other (well, Light only shows what he wants you to see. This depends on whether you’re in on his secret, a very risky move).
- Light wouldn’t be all that good with comforting you when you’ve got anxiety. Clinginess annoys him but he’d let you cuddle him or whatever else you needed, for as long as you needed it. He would admire your strength in focusing on others more than yourself, but he’d tell you when it’s too much and you need time for yourself.
- True crime? Oh, man. You’d get your fair share of true crime if Light decides to tell you about who he really is, then you’re kinda stuck. You’d help him research criminals if you wanted to, use the Note if you wanted to, but for goodness’ sake, if he gets bored of you or thinks you’re a threat to him, then you’re the next name to go in there. He loves you but for him to be god of the new world, sacrifices have to be made.
